The Evolution of Grant in Ernest J. Gaines A Lesson...
After the Civil War ended, many blacks and whites, especially in the South, continued living as if
nothing had changed with regards to the oppression and poor treatment of African Americans.
Narrator Grant Wiggins, of Ernest J. Gaines A Lesson Before Dying, possesses a similar attitude
toward race relations. Through his experiences with a young man wrongly accused of murder, Grant
transforms from a pessimistic, hopeless, and insensitive man into a more selfless and compassionate
human being who can see the possibility of change in relations between whites and blacks.
Grant Wiggins, one of the few black men of the time to have a college education, lives with his aunt
on a plantation just outside Bayonne, Louisiana in 1948, and teaches ... Show more content on

For the majority of the novel, Grant denies that he can help Jefferson in any way at all. When his aunt
and Miss Emma request that Grant go talk to Jefferson to teach him that he is a man, Grant explains, It
is only a matter of weeks, maybe a couple of months but he s already dead...All I can do is try to keep
the others from ending up like this...There s nothing I can do anymore, nothing any of us can do
anymore (14). Before receiving extreme pressure from his aunt to comply, Grant goes so far as to
refuse to even attempt to help Jefferson. With this attitude that There s nothing [he] can do anymore,
Grant can, in fact, do nothing. Even though Grant correctly recognizes the fact that Jefferson will die
in a short while, he fails to acknowledge the possibility of working through the injustices to make a
difference. Grant, himself, feels stuck in his environment he is just running in place there yet he feels a
sort of responsibility for his people and an attraction to the town, and cannot bring himself to leave
(15). In order to try to keep the others from ending up like Jefferson, Grant wants to help his students,
but he fails to respect them (14). If Grant has a bad day, he takes out his anger on his students,
slapping them on the back of the head for playing with an insect, or sending them to the corner for an

Implementing An Improved Management Process
Create an Innovation Being a part of a family business that has been running for a twenty years helped
me evaluate their overall performance. Some internal processes and strategies are apparent, but also
need improvement. After learning all the different methods to innovate in this course the decision to
find a specific area of improvement in the organization was easy to find. Furthermore, implementing
an improved management process will definitely improve the company s overall performance and
work efficiency.
Describe the problem your innovation targets. What is the scope of the problem and which
stakeholders, both within the organization and without, does it impact?
The problem about this innovation is it can create conflict within the employees because this will be a
major change to them. Change is difficult and when it comes to innovating in a business that has been
working the same way for twenty years it can become difficult. It is important to consider the scope of
the problem, is it too broad or is it nonrealistic. In this organization the stakeholders involved and that
will be affected are the employees, and the suppliers. This innovation entails for the stakeholder to
understand the importance of defining their roles, decision power, and commitment for the innovation
plan (Deschamps, 2013).
Describe your innovation and explain how it addresses the problem. How will it meet the needs of the
organization and all stakeholders involved? The plan to innovating is

The Rights Of The French Language
Outside of attempting to achieve sovereignty, the Parti Quebecois has advocated for French language
and cultural rights within Canada and Quebec for its entire existence. The most prominent advocacy is
perhaps Bill 101, which entrenches the rights of the French language in the Canadian constitution .
Championed by Leveque s government in 1977, it outlined the terms which protected the French
language in Quebec by setting out the terms of its use and access. The move was crucial to
maintaining the position of Quebec in conducting business and the language s ability to be used in an
official capacity where before the only inclusions were where the stipulations in the British North
America Act . Instituting such protection as law has gone from being part of their platform to the
focus, given the cultural force English Canada possesses compared to Quebec s.
English Canada due to cultural dominance as Canada s majority group has the side effect of creating
the Canadian identity presented to the world. As a consequence, English Canada s concept of
Canadian identity is often the view presented to the public, nationally and globally of what it means to
be Canadian. This ability runs across multiple forms of media, but one clear example comes from a
beer commercial shown in the early 2000s, known as The Rant . The tagline, I am Canadian goes on to
accompany many images of Canada being experienced without a definition of what being Canadian is,
as if it is innately assumed . This

Music Programs In Schools
Music programs are not in all schools. (What percentages of schools have music programs?) Music
can help students in so many aspects of life, but schools aren t investing in the music program. (How
much on average is a music program cost?) All high schools need to have elective music programs in
order to see benefit their grade averages, to create career preparation, to build teamwork skills, and to
boost student participation in school. Schools are so focused on grade improvement and getting better
scores on state mandated tests each year that they are not taking the time to think about the benefit that
music programs could achieve in this aspect. It has been proven that music students score higher on
standardized tests than non music students. (What percentage?) (Where else, how else do we see grade
improvement?) (What is the average scores received?) Because of higher grades and classes offered in
a music program, students become more prepared to start a career. Music students become passionate

Teamwork is established by the need to blend together and be on time with each other, as well as the
director. If one is not correct in the timing, all will fall apart and phasing or ripples will happen. This
will cause things to sound or look horrendous. If someone is off pitch, it will be noticed, and the
audience will not enjoy that performance. (What more can I say about friendship?) There are also
many team building exercises that are done when training in order for a successful show. In marching
band when the drum majors are selected, they are sent to a camp for a week where they learn different
activities that can be done with their classmates to build that sense of teamwork even more. Not only
does this camp bring together the drum majors, it brings together the entire unit that performs on the

The Pros And Cons Of The Pharmaceutical Industry
Nowadays it seems like legal drugs are more expensive than illegal ones. This dilemma occurs
because the pharmaceutical industry affects the economy significantly. Although the United States is a
mixed market economy, there are instances where the economy seems like a free market economy. A
free market economy allows companies to determine the prices of goods free from government
intervention. The pharmaceutical industry, despite several regulations set by the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA), is a free market economy. Meaning, the pharmaceutical sector lacks
government regulation and has control over the prices of specialty drugs desperately needed by the
public. Therefore, the pharmaceutical industry being a free market negatively affects ... Show more

According to Paul Antony, DTCA aids consumers because it helps them recognize symptoms and their
increases communication between doctors and patients. He states that consumers that advertisements
empower them to seek out their doctor (para 3,10). However, advertisements are often emotional and
misleading. This type of advertisements causes patients to urge their doctors to prescribe them a
specialty drug because they notice they have a symptom. Doctors then would have to comply which
can end up being more harmful to the patient. Another argument is that pharmaceuticals make little
profit because new drugs cost so much to develop. Derek Lowe, a chemist, states that Expenses [are]
doing nothing but rising, and the success rate for drug discovery [is] going in the other direction (para
5). By his quote, Lowe means that the development of a drug outweighs the cost of the drug, resulting
in little profit. However, this case is on drugs that failed in the market. Drugs that are long past
development have the prices gouged for more profit. Therefore the government should regulate the
pharmaceutical industry because the industry is harmful towards the economy and patients. The
government can achieve this by enabling a cap on prices of specialty drugs and ensuring DCTA is not

Paul Cezanne s Still Life With Bowl Of Curacao Oranges
This essay will discuss the significant similarities and differences between Paul Cézanne s work, Still
Life with Pot of Flowers and Pears painted in 1880 90 and Louise Moillon s work, Still Life with
Bowl of Curaçao Oranges painted in 1634.
Although both painters were born in France, they were painting during time periods. Moillon was born
in 1609 in Paris and was painting during the Baroque era, which encompassed intense shadow and
rich colours (Harrison, 2010). Cezanne was born in 1839 in Aix en Providence and was paining in the
Post Impressionism era, which included thick applications of paint and had a more expressive effect
(Harrison, 2010). Both works are created with oil paint, however, Cezanne has chosen to paint his
work on canvas, whereas Moillon s work is displayed on panel. Both works are of similar size,
Cezanne s canvas is 46 x 56cm and Moillon s panel is 46 x 65cm. ... Show more content on

Moillon displays a bowl of Curacao oranges, that originate from the Dutch West Indies, with the
leaves still attached and one single lemon resting on the top (Harrison, 2010). The bowl which the
fruit is in is significant as it was made of porcelain. Porcelain was an expensive import from China
and was often featured in still life painting by French and Dutch artists (Harrison, 2010) which give
the painting a rich and expensive tone. The composition looks formal and posed and the lighting in the
painting is dramatic and creates harsh shadows which gives a more realistic feel. This painting has a
wide tonal range as there are strong contrasts between the lightest and darkest parts which creates a
strong effect. Moillon uses linear brushwork to give a smooth texture to the painting (Inside Art, 2010)
and poses the fruit close to the picture plane which give the impression of being able to reach out and

Athletes College Athletes
Should collegiate athletes get paid? Statistics show that an average college athlete spends 20 hours per
week on their sport (University of Notre Dame). All the time dedicated to their sport takes away time
to complete homework, eat, work, and rest. College athletes should receive compensation for the
amount of time dedicated to their sport, for the amount of revenue brought into the university or
college, to be able to better support themselves and their family and benefit from the profit made by
apparel company contracts with the university or college.
Playing a sport in college, especially at Division 1 schools are very time consuming between
practicing and playing games. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) allows 20 hours
of practice a week for athletes, but practices often last longer ( How do College Athletes... ).
Collegiate athletes often do not have enough time to set aside for their classes. Many of these athletes
are spending more time playing their sport than managing their schoolwork. If the athletes do not
show up to every practice, then they tend to feel uncommitted and disincluded. According to an
NCAA survey on college athletes, the most demanding sports are Division 1 and Division 2 baseball.
Division 1 basketball and football are very demanding as well (O Shaughnessy). All athletes have to
make sure they establish their priorities for their sport and academics. College athletes should finish
their most difficult tasks first, then they can

Essay on Krik! Krak!
Between the pool and the Gardenias portrays the story of a poor woman that finds an abandoned baby
on the street and decides to keep her. The story is set in Haiti, a poor country consumed by
malnutrition, abandonment, and suffering. Edwidge Danticat uses the main character, a poor, lower
class, black woman from Ville Rose, to make a political commentary on the situation in Haiti. The
story suggests the desire of poor people to escape their harsh reality and become consumed in a world
outside their own.
Danticat makes various social commentaries in Between the Pool and the Gardenias. The story begins
by describing a baby left abandoned in the middle of the street. It seems she has been left there for at
least hours without anyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the woman finds the baby, she acknowledges all the signs that the baby is dead but seems to
create a separate reality. She becomes delusional and takes the baby in as if it was hers; feeding,
bathing, and caring for it constantly. She even imagines that the house she is a mid in belongs to her,
the baby, and the pool man. In the end she says We made a pretty picture standing there. Rose, me, and
him. The woman s delusional state is provoked by her inability to maintain a family. She desperately
wanted a family of her own. The author constantly uses words like my and mine that show possession.
The woman s way of coping with tremendous loss and suffering was creating an alternate world.
Danticat adds the woman s escape from reality to portray the desperate desire of Haitians to prosper
from a life of poverty. Becoming delusional was the only way many people could cope with the
horrors of the government. Under the rule of Dictator Jean Claude Baby Doc Duvalier, Haiti
underwent horrific and traumatizing events. Many hatians like the woman of the story, learned to
disconnect herself from the ghastly situations and escape into a better life. Danticat adds another
example of this in the story. She describes My grandmother Defile who died with a bald head in a
prison because God had given her wings. Her grandmother had been a victim of the 1937 massacre at
the border of Dominican Republic.

Abraham Lincoln s Beliefs
Some have said that Abraham Lincoln s beliefs are a mystery. He himself has never proclaimed his
beliefs but a lot can be determined by his actions and words. Through observation, there have been
quite a lot of conclusions to his faith. Some conclusions are: skepticism, deism, Christianity, theism,
fatalism, and even atheism. It s an on going debate for the conclusion to his faith although we won t be
able to ever prove exactly what his beliefs were since he never made a profession, there are many facts
leading to his belief in a personal savior.
Among the conclusions, skepticism is one of many. In his earlier years, he was a known skeptic and he
is often remembered as a skeptic because of his earlier quotes (George). Despite his firm belief in
God, proved by the references to God and the Bible in the Second Inaugural Address, some say that he
was just trying to please the audience even though what he said is not what the people wanted to hear
(Calhoun and Morel). Lincoln may have been a skeptic at a young age, but he showed reliance on God
later in life. James Smith said that he was inclined to believe that Lincoln was a skeptic but unlike
most skeptics, he was a constant reader of the Bible (Lind, 51). He showed no skepticism as the
president, he only showed his reliance on God and his unfailing word.
Another belief was that Lincoln was a deist. Possibly because he never made a profession of faith and
he never officially joined a church but this is not a sound argument.

the recrystallized solid and the filtrate from the recrystallization. The solid was dried until the next lab
period, and was then weighed and a melting point was taken. For the TLC analysis 3 x s were drawn
on the bottom portion of a TLC plate for the origins. A small amount of the crude Nitroacetanilide was
dissolved in warm ethanol and spotted on the TLC plate. A small amount of the recrystallized
Nitroacetanilide was dissolved in warm ethanol and spotted on the same TLC plate, and the same was
done for the filtrate. A UV lamp was used to ensure that the right amount of sample was being used,
then the plate was eluted in ethyl acetate. The plate was removed when the solvent had reached about
3⁄4 of the way to the top. The solvent was marked with the UV lamp, and the spots were circled to

The Chocolate War And An Absolute Diary Of A Part Time Indian
When people think about tribalism, they usually associate it with a strong possession of a cultural or
ethnical identity. Tribalism can take many forms. For example, it can refer to popular culture in which
people are exhibiting loyalty to their social group. Certainly, there are positive and negative
perspectives to either side. When reading The Chocolate War and An Absolute Diary of A Part Time
Indian, I experienced both sides of tribalism. When, reading An Absolute Diary of A Part Time Indian,
by Sherman Alexie, I saw how the protagonist Arnold was able to gain support from his tribes while
discovering strengths inside of himself that he never knew existed. In comparison, I discovered while
reading The Chocolate War, by Robert Cormier, the protagonist Jerry had the foundations of support,
but it ended up crumbling when he needed the support the most. Why was Arnold able to become an
individual while being a member of numerous tribes, when Jerry s tribes didn t support him for being
an individual?
Jerry, a freshman who comes into Trinity and is able to throw off its balance. He is able to defy the
Vigils and that action alone is huge, because no one has ever dared to defy them before because the
Vigils are their own tribe at Trinity. Jerry is able to disturb the tribe and almost rally supporters behind
him, but it doesn t last very long and Jerry is singled out by the Vigils. Jerry had the football team as

Observation Of General Education
Recently, I had the opportunity to observe several general education classes taught by a single teacher
that each contained one or more students who have special needs. Within these classes, I was able to
discern how both they and the teacher dealt with their disabilities as well as how they functioned
within the atmosphere of general education. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss my
observations on three remarkable students and their teacher including their physical, mental and social
development.
General Information
As mentioned above, all of my observations were in several general education classrooms taught by a
single teacher, which henceforth, in order to protect the confidentiality of the students within the
classroom, I will refer to as Mr. Bubbles. All of the classrooms I observed were general math classes
and were full of students ranging from freshman to junior in age groups. Within these classes, I
observed a wide range of accommodations for three main students, whom I will refer to as Joey,
Jeremy, and Tom, including one on one sessions, shortened assignments and tests, and allotted break
areas. Due to the parameters of the permission I received to observe in the classroom, I was not able to
secure any information on their family interactions, or any other personal dynamics (I was not able to
ask personal questions about the students), thus all of my information will be limited to my
conversations as well as what happened solely within Mr. Bubbles

Battle Of Trenton Dbq
At the start of the Revolutionary war, the British government and army thought the war would be over
in 6 months. However, the war ended up lasting about 8 years from 1775 to 1783. During the war
from 1776 to 1777, Britain laid out a strategy that would enable them to bring this war to a close.
Their strategies to end the war, ultimately failed and costed them big time. Their actions in decisive
battles was part of the reason why they faltered and failed during this time. Overall, the sympathy of
the Howe Brothers, the failure to seize opportunities, and logistical problems, was what cause British
failure. In 1776, the Howe brothers and a large British armada arrived in New York City. When they
arrived this was the best chance for Britain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this battle, the British wanted to capture New York and sever New England from the rest of the
colonies. General Burgoyne and his army were stuck in a standstill, with the Benedict Arnold and his
colonist army, at the Hudson river and they depleted most of their resources. General Howe was
supposed to come to Burgoyne s rescue with reinforcements, however, he failed to help General
Burgoyne. This failure was due to conflicting strategies between the two generals and huge
communication problem within the British army. General Burgoyne had to surrender his entire
command at Saratoga to the American General Horatio Gates. When the British army lost this battle,
they also lost all hope to end or win the war. After Saratoga, France decided to help aid the colonists,
which ensured that they would win the war. If this British campaign was successful they could have
possibly ended the war. This British failure can be blamed on logistical problems within the British

Essay on The Many Versions of The Legend of King Arthur
The Many Versions of The Legend of King Arthur
There are countless versions of the legend of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table. Most
English versions are based on Sir Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, but where did these tales
originate, and what different interpretations are there today? This essay seeks to examine the roots and
different renditions of the various legends circulating today. The first section deals with the origins of
the legend. The second section speculates on who the real King Arthur could have been. A comparison
of several different versions, and suggestions of why they differ are given in the third section, and the
conclusion presents an analysis on the ambiguity of the legend.

Tarumi Painting Analysis
What is Stephen s relationship with painting, and how does it shape his experience in Tarumi?
In Autumn of the novel, Stephen was thinking about King s last letter and how he understood that

I would use my rest and recuperation to perfect my art. King was one of the few friends I had who

children of George Herbert Walker Bush and Barbara Pierce Bush. The Bush family had been
involved in business and politics since the 1950s. Bush s grandfather, Prescott Bush, was a former
Wall Street banker and progressive Republican senator from Connecticut, and his father was a
businessman, diplomat, and vice president and president of the United States.
In 1948, George H.W. Bush moved him and his family to Midland, Texas, where he made his fortune
in the oil business. George spent most of his childhood in Midland, attending school there until the
seventh grade. The family moved to Houston in 1961, and George W. Bush was sent to Phillips
Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. There he was an all around athlete, playing baseball, basketball
and football. He was a fair student and had a reputation for being an occasional troublemaker and
joking kid around. Despite this, family connections helped him enter Yale University in 1964.

Black Hills Expedition Of 1874 Essay
The Black Hills Expedition of 1874:
How did the Black Hills Expedition of 1874 influence the development of the Black Hills?
Many places not only in South Dakota, but around the world are affected by the events of Custer and
his company. George Armstrong Custer became well known because of his 1874 expedition, when he
discovered gold. The discovery of gold in the Black Hills affected the United States and the world for
over the next 100 years after his discovery. Homestake Mine in Lead, South Dakota mined 43.9
million ounces of gold and 9.78 million ounces of silver that has been used throughout the world
(Homestake Mine, Wikipedia). They shut down in 2001 due to low gold prices. The Black Hills

They outnumbered Custer s armies by a ratio of 9 to 1. The battle was soon over and all but one of
Custer s soldiers died, including Custer. They were expected to be back from their expedition on
August 30th, but would be many months before people figured out what happened. The battle would
later be known as the Battle of the Little Bighorn.(The Battle of the Little Bighorn, Wikipedia)
The Homestake Mine founded by Fred and Moses Manuel, Alex Engh and Hank Harney started
bringing many workers and families. It operated for about 47 years bringing people and their families
to settle.(Homestake Mine, Wikipedia) Towns were going up and the Black Hills were thriving. Lead
Deadwood was a boom town and is now a tourist s site. Sanford Lab was created on the old site of
Homestake Mine. Here they have found out things that have never been discovered before. The Black
Hills itself rely on the tourists for its economy to function. For all of this, we owe our thanks to
George Armstrong Custer and the Black Hills Expedition of 1874. Without Custer and his discovery
of gold in the Black Hills, the Hills would probably be just a small town in the middle of nowhere and
overlooked by everyone. Now the Black Hills and the area around it are a major attraction from
around America.

Beethoven Romanticism
Thanks to Beethoven, music was taken highly serious among the people and the literatures of arts.
During the nineteenth century, the first two decades were devoted to Romanticism. Literature wasn t
the only thing that poured out during this time period, so did the music. People such as Jean Jacques
Rousseau, who was an Enlightenment philosopher in the mid eighteenth century, provided the
Romantics with ideas on how to express themselves as opposed to what society expected from one.
These ideas led people to live an upbeat joyful life rather than a sluggish boring one. However,
Romanticism came to be during a time of war, and because of how freely expressive the Romantics
were they became know as rebels who went against the rules and regulations. So rebellious that the
Romantic composers were experimenting with chords that had been off limits.
This time period also brought some spooky harmonies orchestral sounds, along with recognizable
operas such as Robert the Devil, The Vampire, The Magic Bullet, and Frankenstein. Just like the
Romantic period expanded the orchestral, it also picked up on the ... Show more content on

They didn t want to be without the program, but at the same time they did not want the music to make
sense on its own term. In other words, the Romantics embraced the pure beauty of instrumental music
but they also liked program music because it mixes in nonmusical elements. Although the Romantics
liked being different, most of their compositions were either miniature or grandiose compositions. The
difference is that miniature compositions were a few minutes longs, but were designed to convey a
particularly pointed emotion, and be meaningful. In contrast, grandiose compositions were meant for
large symphonies and longer time duration that were interweaved with poetry, philosophical or
religious ideas, story lines, and dramatic

Brideshead Revisited Essay
There is a snake in Eden; corruption in paradise. To what extent do you agree that the Brideshead
estate embodies a corrupted paradise in the novel? June 2010 Within the context of pastoral literature,
change is typically seen as a destructive force, intrinsic with the movement away from a harmony with
the natural world towards modernisation and corruption. In Brideshead Revisited the same pattern
appears to be followed; moving from the peaceful harmony of Sebastian and Charles life in Oxford
into corruption and turmoil or the shifting power balance between the social classes, from the nobility
to the lower classes. However, change is not exclusively a negative force in the novel.
The title of book one Et in Arcadia Ego suggests ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Waugh describes their first encounter with the girls at May Mayfield s as a sickly child and Death s
Head , names foreshadowing the downfall and deterioration that will result. It is as a result of this
night that Sebastian is arrested and tried for drunk driving, and introduces them to the realities of adult
life. It is because of this episode that the Marchmain family are shamed in the newspaper, perhaps
worsening Lady Marchmains over reaction to Sebastian s drinking later in the novel. This illustrates
clearly how even in these youthful days that Charles cherishes so much, there was chaos which
corrupted the serene life with Sebastian which he chooses not to dwell on.
Waugh presents corruption in terms of the hierarchy of society, with the nobility exclusively
privileged to positions of power, as nought but as negative through his portrayal of Hooper. Charles
states in the prologue that Hooper is a symbol to me of Young Britain ; notably Hooper is not
presented as an overly inspiring, promising or likeable character. The use of young has connotations of
the working class were just coming of age and beginning to have the means to hold positions of power
and influence, as well as suggesting a major change in the Britain; an old way of life has been left to
be replaced by a new one. It could be argued that Charles is presenting the traditional world as being
corrupted with the changing, modernised world.

The Issue Of Legalizing Abortion Essay
Introduction State your Ethical Position on the issue upfront, with its ethical motivation. The argument
surrounding abortion is a very topical issue in our society and dates way back to ancient days. The
issue of legalizing abortion is a growing social concern as all life is sacred and valued. However, in
recent years there have been two ethical arguments by the Supreme Court in legalizing abortion that of
pro life and pro choice. Despite the legal acceptance of abortion in some countries, the matter remains
an ethical concern (Jones Chaloner, 2007). With this is mind, the writer s position is pro life from a
deontological perspective. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica (2015), deontological
emphasizes the relationship between duty and morality of human actions. The term deontology
derives from the Greek deon, duty, and logos, science. Thus, pro life seek to advocate for the
defenseless human being whose life is being unjustly taken away (Alcorn, 1994). Since all human life
begins at conception the act of abortion can then be seen as murder because it is the act of taking
someone s life. Abortion is an infringement on human life. In retrospect no civil society would allow
for someone to take the life of another; for that reason, abortion must be viewed as morally wrong.
Subsequently, the bible recognizes no crucial difference between the being in the womb and the being
after birth. Hence, from conception and onwards, the individual is a person. Genesis

Gilgamesh Hero s Journey Essay
From the beginning gilgamesh is known as being a bad person even a bride from a soon to be married.
He eventually meets enkidu, a wild man, raised by animals and ignores humans. But after interacting
with humans he ends up in a wrestling match with Gilgamesh. Eventually Enkidu and Gilgamesh
become friends and the hero s journey starts. The first step according to Campbell is the call to
adventure where the hero receives a call for adventure and leave their life. They both decide to visit
the evil forest and hunt down Humbaba, the protector of the gods tree supply. At this point Gilgamesh
is still very arrogant and has not yet started to change his ways.

The crossing of the return threshold is the final step in Gilgamesh s hero journey. Enkidu s death sent
Gilgamesh on an adventure to fight death but he ultimately ended up learning his biggest lesson from
Utnapishtim, the man who become immortal. He learns to appreciate life every day and that humans
are meant to die. Utnapishtim tells him how fortunate he is to be 2/3 divine and 1/3 human, to be
blessed, and to be king . He takes this information and starts to appreciate everything about his life
and his kingdom. He understands that death is a part of life. This experience changed him for the
better. From the beginning of the story of Gilgamesh to the end you can see a total transformation in
this character. The strong and greedy king showed fear and vulnerability. The death of his brother and
second half stirred up his restless heart and sent him on a journey to fight and overcome death. The
lesson he learned though was to appreciate his life every day until he dies. He learned that death was a
part of life. Gilgamesh has obvious flaws and goes through many struggles just as its readers do on a
daily basis. Gilgamesh s vulnerability makes him easy to relate to. Modern American readers want a
hero who s relatable and seems ordinary in their emotions and life. People change in life sometimes
for the better and sometimes for the worst. In the case of Gilgamesh he changed for the better and
become a better person. Readers

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
Overview This document describes the manner in which Vendor Oversight assigns tiers to Pacific
Union Financial ( PUF or the Firm ) vendors and manages vendors accordingly to facilitate due
diligence, maintenance and compliance with Firm, state, and Federal requirements. Background The
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ) is tasked with writing and enforcing rules for
financial entities to protect consumers from unfair, deceptive or otherwise harmful practices by such
entities. A major area of focus for the CFPB is a robust and effective oversight of a financial
institution s third party providers (vendors) to ensure consumers are not exposed to unnecessary risk
of financial or personal harm. The CFPB has not issued specific rules outlining how a financial
institution must oversee its vendors; however, they have provided guidelines which outline the areas
that such institutions should consider in their oversight program. Among these, establishing internal
controls and on going monitoring to determine whether the service provider is complying with Federal
consumer financial law is specifically stated as an expectation of the CFPB for financial institutions
towards their third party providers. Procedure Vendor Oversight has developed and maintains a robust
third party oversight program to efficiently and effectively source, vet, onboard and continually
evaluate the performance of PUF third party providers. As part of this process, each vendor is assigned

Juxtaposition In Cold Blood
In Cold Blood and the Death Penalty Is the killing of certain people morally acceptable? In his novel,
In Cold Blood, Capote makes an argument about the death penalty. In Cold Blood, written by Truman
Capote, is a seemingly objective account of the Clutter murders of Holcomb Kansas. Capote details
both the lives of the Clutters and the lives of the two men involved in their murder. In this novel
Capote argues against the death penalty using devices such as simile, metaphor, juxtaposition, and. In
the first passage of the book, Capote writes about the incident and the resulting deaths. He writes At
the time not a soul in sleeping Holcomb heard them four shotgun blasts that, all told, ended six human
lives (Capote 5). This is an example of juxtaposition because it shows the contrast of the sleeping
town and the tragedy that was occurring at the same time. Capote uses this juxtaposition, not only to
detail the nature of the crime, but also to make a subtle argument about the case. After finding out that
the Clutters have been murdered, the community is shocked and horrified. They cannot sleep at night
because of the fear that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

preparation can be a high stress activity. One reason for this is the fact that there are many disasters to
take into consideration during planning. Some disasters are unique to geographic areas, such as
hurricanes, and tornadoes. Yet, other disasters occur regardless of geography such as fires, or
pandemic outbreaks (Grand Canyon University, 2011). According to Mr. Fay, the number one disaster

Aerodynamics, A Subset Of Fluid Dynamics
Aerodynamics, a subset of fluid dynamics, is the study of the behavior of objects when exposed to air.
Hydrodynamics, another subset of fluid dynamics, is very similar to aerodynamics and has similar
laws. However, hydrodynamics shows the behavior of liquids instead of gasses. Reynolds Numbers,
created by British scientist and engineer Osborne Reynolds, describe the way fluids behave against
objects. Bernoulli s principle, discovered by Daniel Bernoulli, states that faster fluid flow creates
lower pressure, and slower fluid flow creates higher pressure.
There are 4 main forces, drag, lift, thrust and weight. Lift is the force that counters weight. It occurs
when the pressure of the object below the object is greater than the pressure above it. The second
force, thrust, counters drag. It propels the object in a given direction and can be provided by turbofans,
turboprops, propfans, etc. on an airplane, but can also be provided for an arrow by the bowstring.
Weight counters lift and varies with mass. The greater the mass, the greater the force of weight is. The
last force, drag, counters thrust. The air particles stick to the object, creating friction and heat which
slows the object. Drag occurs everywhere where there is a fluid, with almost (practically) no effect in
space.
With the four main forces, flight can occur. There are two types of flight, powered flight and coastal
flight. Powered flight continuously uses energy to fly for periods of time, such as throwing an

  • 2. The Evolution of Grant in Ernest J. Gaines A Lesson... After the Civil War ended, many blacks and whites, especially in the South, continued living as if nothing had changed with regards to the oppression and poor treatment of African Americans. Narrator Grant Wiggins, of Ernest J. Gaines A Lesson Before Dying, possesses a similar attitude toward race relations. Through his experiences with a young man wrongly accused of murder, Grant transforms from a pessimistic, hopeless, and insensitive man into a more selfless and compassionate human being who can see the possibility of change in relations between whites and blacks. Grant Wiggins, one of the few black men of the time to have a college education, lives with his aunt on a plantation just outside Bayonne, Louisiana in 1948, and teaches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the majority of the novel, Grant denies that he can help Jefferson in any way at all. When his aunt and Miss Emma request that Grant go talk to Jefferson to teach him that he is a man, Grant explains, It is only a matter of weeks, maybe a couple of months but he s already dead...All I can do is try to keep the others from ending up like this...There s nothing I can do anymore, nothing any of us can do anymore (14). Before receiving extreme pressure from his aunt to comply, Grant goes so far as to refuse to even attempt to help Jefferson. With this attitude that There s nothing [he] can do anymore, Grant can, in fact, do nothing. Even though Grant correctly recognizes the fact that Jefferson will die in a short while, he fails to acknowledge the possibility of working through the injustices to make a difference. Grant, himself, feels stuck in his environment he is just running in place there yet he feels a sort of responsibility for his people and an attraction to the town, and cannot bring himself to leave (15). In order to try to keep the others from ending up like Jefferson, Grant wants to help his students, but he fails to respect them (14). If Grant has a bad day, he takes out his anger on his students, slapping them on the back of the head for playing with an insect, or sending them to the corner for an hour ... • 3. Implementing An Improved Management Process Create an Innovation Being a part of a family business that has been running for a twenty years helped me evaluate their overall performance. Some internal processes and strategies are apparent, but also need improvement. After learning all the different methods to innovate in this course the decision to find a specific area of improvement in the organization was easy to find. Furthermore, implementing an improved management process will definitely improve the company s overall performance and work efficiency. Describe the problem your innovation targets. What is the scope of the problem and which stakeholders, both within the organization and without, does it impact? The problem about this innovation is it can create conflict within the employees because this will be a major change to them. Change is difficult and when it comes to innovating in a business that has been working the same way for twenty years it can become difficult. It is important to consider the scope of the problem, is it too broad or is it nonrealistic. In this organization the stakeholders involved and that will be affected are the employees, and the suppliers. This innovation entails for the stakeholder to understand the importance of defining their roles, decision power, and commitment for the innovation plan (Deschamps, 2013). Describe your innovation and explain how it addresses the problem. How will it meet the needs of the organization and all stakeholders involved? The plan to innovating is ... • 4. The Rights Of The French Language Outside of attempting to achieve sovereignty, the Parti Quebecois has advocated for French language and cultural rights within Canada and Quebec for its entire existence. The most prominent advocacy is perhaps Bill 101, which entrenches the rights of the French language in the Canadian constitution . Championed by Leveque s government in 1977, it outlined the terms which protected the French language in Quebec by setting out the terms of its use and access. The move was crucial to maintaining the position of Quebec in conducting business and the language s ability to be used in an official capacity where before the only inclusions were where the stipulations in the British North America Act . Instituting such protection as law has gone from being part of their platform to the focus, given the cultural force English Canada possesses compared to Quebec s. English Canada due to cultural dominance as Canada s majority group has the side effect of creating the Canadian identity presented to the world. As a consequence, English Canada s concept of Canadian identity is often the view presented to the public, nationally and globally of what it means to be Canadian. This ability runs across multiple forms of media, but one clear example comes from a beer commercial shown in the early 2000s, known as The Rant . The tagline, I am Canadian goes on to accompany many images of Canada being experienced without a definition of what being Canadian is, as if it is innately assumed . This ... • 5. Music Programs In Schools Music programs are not in all schools. (What percentages of schools have music programs?) Music can help students in so many aspects of life, but schools aren t investing in the music program. (How much on average is a music program cost?) All high schools need to have elective music programs in order to see benefit their grade averages, to create career preparation, to build teamwork skills, and to boost student participation in school. Schools are so focused on grade improvement and getting better scores on state mandated tests each year that they are not taking the time to think about the benefit that music programs could achieve in this aspect. It has been proven that music students score higher on standardized tests than non music students. (What percentage?) (Where else, how else do we see grade improvement?) (What is the average scores received?) Because of higher grades and classes offered in a music program, students become more prepared to start a career. Music students become passionate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Teamwork is established by the need to blend together and be on time with each other, as well as the director. If one is not correct in the timing, all will fall apart and phasing or ripples will happen. This will cause things to sound or look horrendous. If someone is off pitch, it will be noticed, and the audience will not enjoy that performance. (What more can I say about friendship?) There are also many team building exercises that are done when training in order for a successful show. In marching band when the drum majors are selected, they are sent to a camp for a week where they learn different activities that can be done with their classmates to build that sense of teamwork even more. • 6. The Pros And Cons Of The Pharmaceutical Industry Nowadays it seems like legal drugs are more expensive than illegal ones. This dilemma occurs because the pharmaceutical industry affects the economy significantly. Although the United States is a mixed market economy, there are instances where the economy seems like a free market economy. A free market economy allows companies to determine the prices of goods free from government intervention. The pharmaceutical industry, despite several regulations set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is a free market economy. Meaning, the pharmaceutical sector lacks government regulation and has control over the prices of specialty drugs desperately needed by the public. Therefore, the pharmaceutical industry being a free market negatively affects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Paul Antony, DTCA aids consumers because it helps them recognize symptoms and their increases communication between doctors and patients. He states that consumers that advertisements empower them to seek out their doctor (para 3,10). However, advertisements are often emotional and misleading. This type of advertisements causes patients to urge their doctors to prescribe them a specialty drug because they notice they have a symptom. Doctors then would have to comply which can end up being more harmful to the patient. Another argument is that pharmaceuticals make little profit because new drugs cost so much to develop. Derek Lowe, a chemist, states that Expenses [are] doing nothing but rising, and the success rate for drug discovery [is] going in the other direction (para 5). By his quote, Lowe means that the development of a drug outweighs the cost of the drug, resulting in little profit. However, this case is on drugs that failed in the market. Drugs that are long past development have the prices gouged for more profit. Therefore the government should regulate the pharmaceutical industry because the industry is harmful towards the economy and patients. The government can achieve this by enabling a cap on prices of specialty drugs and ensuring DCTA is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Paul Cezanne s Still Life With Bowl Of Curacao Oranges This essay will discuss the significant similarities and differences between Paul Cézanne s work, Still Life with Pot of Flowers and Pears painted in 1880 90 and Louise Moillon s work, Still Life with Bowl of Curaçao Oranges painted in 1634. Although both painters were born in France, they were painting during time periods. Moillon was born in 1609 in Paris and was painting during the Baroque era, which encompassed intense shadow and rich colours (Harrison, 2010). Cezanne was born in 1839 in Aix en Providence and was paining in the Post Impressionism era, which included thick applications of paint and had a more expressive effect (Harrison, 2010). Both works are created with oil paint, however, Cezanne has chosen to paint his work on canvas, whereas Moillon s work is displayed on panel. Both works are of similar size, Cezanne s canvas is 46 x 56cm and Moillon s panel is 46 x 65cm. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moillon displays a bowl of Curacao oranges, that originate from the Dutch West Indies, with the leaves still attached and one single lemon resting on the top (Harrison, 2010). The bowl which the fruit is in is significant as it was made of porcelain. Porcelain was an expensive import from China and was often featured in still life painting by French and Dutch artists (Harrison, 2010) which give the painting a rich and expensive tone. The composition looks formal and posed and the lighting in the painting is dramatic and creates harsh shadows which gives a more realistic feel. This painting has a wide tonal range as there are strong contrasts between the lightest and darkest parts which creates a strong effect. Moillon uses linear brushwork to give a smooth texture to the painting (Inside Art, 2010) and poses the fruit close to the picture plane which give the impression of being able to reach out and grab the ... • 8. Athletes College Athletes Should collegiate athletes get paid? Statistics show that an average college athlete spends 20 hours per week on their sport (University of Notre Dame). All the time dedicated to their sport takes away time to complete homework, eat, work, and rest. College athletes should receive compensation for the amount of time dedicated to their sport, for the amount of revenue brought into the university or college, to be able to better support themselves and their family and benefit from the profit made by apparel company contracts with the university or college. Playing a sport in college, especially at Division 1 schools are very time consuming between practicing and playing games. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) allows 20 hours of practice a week for athletes, but practices often last longer ( How do College Athletes... ). Collegiate athletes often do not have enough time to set aside for their classes. Many of these athletes are spending more time playing their sport than managing their schoolwork. If the athletes do not show up to every practice, then they tend to feel uncommitted and disincluded. According to an NCAA survey on college athletes, the most demanding sports are Division 1 and Division 2 baseball. Division 1 basketball and football are very demanding as well (O Shaughnessy). All athletes have to make sure they establish their priorities for their sport and academics. College athletes should finish their most difficult tasks first, then they can ... The story is set in Haiti, a poor country consumed by malnutrition, abandonment, and suffering. Edwidge Danticat uses the main character, a poor, lower class, black woman from Ville Rose, to make a political commentary on the situation in Haiti. The story suggests the desire of poor people to escape their harsh reality and become consumed in a world outside their own. Danticat makes various social commentaries in Between the Pool and the Gardenias. The story begins by describing a baby left abandoned in the middle of the street. When the woman finds the baby, she acknowledges all the signs that the baby is dead but seems to create a separate reality. She becomes delusional and takes the baby in as if it was hers; feeding, bathing, and caring for it constantly. She even imagines that the house she is a mid in belongs to her, the baby, and the pool man. In the end she says We made a pretty picture standing there. Rose, me, and him. The woman s delusional state is provoked by her inability to maintain a family. She desperately wanted a family of her own. The author constantly uses words like my and mine that show possession. The woman s way of coping with tremendous loss and suffering was creating an alternate world. Danticat adds the woman s escape from reality to portray the desperate desire of Haitians to prosper from a life of poverty. Becoming delusional was the only way many people could cope with the horrors of the government. Under the rule of Dictator Jean Claude Baby Doc Duvalier, Haiti underwent horrific and traumatizing events. Many hatians like the woman of the story, learned to disconnect herself from the ghastly situations and escape into a better life. Danticat adds another example of this in the story. She describes My grandmother Defile who died with a bald head in a prison because God had given her wings. Her grandmother had been a victim of the 1937 massacre at the border of Dominican Republic. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Abraham Lincoln s Beliefs Some have said that Abraham Lincoln s beliefs are a mystery. He himself has never proclaimed his beliefs but a lot can be determined by his actions and words. Through observation, there have been quite a lot of conclusions to his faith. Some conclusions are: skepticism, deism, Christianity, theism, fatalism, and even atheism. It s an on going debate for the conclusion to his faith although we won t be able to ever prove exactly what his beliefs were since he never made a profession, there are many facts leading to his belief in a personal savior. Among the conclusions, skepticism is one of many. In his earlier years, he was a known skeptic and he is often remembered as a skeptic because of his earlier quotes (George). Despite his firm belief in God, proved by the references to God and the Bible in the Second Inaugural Address, some say that he was just trying to please the audience even though what he said is not what the people wanted to hear (Calhoun and Morel). Lincoln may have been a skeptic at a young age, but he showed reliance on God later in life. James Smith said that he was inclined to believe that Lincoln was a skeptic but unlike most skeptics, he was a constant reader of the Bible (Lind, 51). He showed no skepticism as the president, he only showed his reliance on God and his unfailing word. Another belief was that Lincoln was a deist. Possibly because he never made a profession of faith and he never officially joined a church but this is not a sound argument. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tribalism can take many forms. For example, it can refer to popular culture in which people are exhibiting loyalty to their social group. Certainly, there are positive and negative perspectives to either side. When reading The Chocolate War and An Absolute Diary of A Part Time Indian, I experienced both sides of tribalism. When, reading An Absolute Diary of A Part Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie, I saw how the protagonist Arnold was able to gain support from his tribes while discovering strengths inside of himself that he never knew existed. In comparison, I discovered while reading The Chocolate War, by Robert Cormier, the protagonist Jerry had the foundations of support, but it ended up crumbling when he needed the support the most. Why was Arnold able to become an individual while being a member of numerous tribes, when Jerry s tribes didn t support him for being an individual? Jerry, a freshman who comes into Trinity and is able to throw off its balance. He is able to defy the Vigils and that action alone is huge, because no one has ever dared to defy them before because the Vigils are their own tribe at Trinity. Jerry is able to disturb the tribe and almost rally supporters behind him, but it doesn t last very long and Jerry is singled out by the Vigils. • 14. Observation Of General Education Recently, I had the opportunity to observe several general education classes taught by a single teacher that each contained one or more students who have special needs. Within these classes, I was able to discern how both they and the teacher dealt with their disabilities as well as how they functioned within the atmosphere of general education. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss my observations on three remarkable students and their teacher including their physical, mental and social development. General Information As mentioned above, all of my observations were in several general education classrooms taught by a single teacher, which henceforth, in order to protect the confidentiality of the students within the classroom, I will refer to as Mr. Bubbles. All of the classrooms I observed were general math classes and were full of students ranging from freshman to junior in age groups. Within these classes, I observed a wide range of accommodations for three main students, whom I will refer to as Joey, Jeremy, and Tom, including one on one sessions, shortened assignments and tests, and allotted break areas. Due to the parameters of the permission I received to observe in the classroom, I was not able to secure any information on their family interactions, or any other personal dynamics (I was not able to ask personal questions about the students), thus all of my information will be limited to my conversations as well as what happened solely within Mr. Bubbles ... During the nineteenth century, the first two decades were devoted to Romanticism. Literature wasn t the only thing that poured out during this time period, so did the music. These ideas led people to live an upbeat joyful life rather than a sluggish boring one. June 2010 Within the context of pastoral literature, change is typically seen as a destructive force, intrinsic with the movement away from a harmony with the natural world towards modernisation and corruption. In Brideshead Revisited the same pattern appears to be followed; moving from the peaceful harmony of Sebastian and Charles life in Oxford into corruption and turmoil or the shifting power balance between the social classes, from the nobility to the lower classes. It is as a result of this night that Sebastian is arrested and tried for drunk driving, and introduces them to the realities of adult life. It is because of this episode that the Marchmain family are shamed in the newspaper, perhaps worsening Lady Marchmains over reaction to Sebastian s drinking later in the novel. This illustrates clearly how even in these youthful days that Charles cherishes so much, there was chaos which corrupted the serene life with Sebastian which he chooses not to dwell on. Waugh presents corruption in terms of the hierarchy of society, with the nobility exclusively privileged to positions of power, as nought but as negative through his portrayal of Hooper. The argument surrounding abortion is a very topical issue in our society and dates way back to ancient days. The issue of legalizing abortion is a growing social concern as all life is sacred and valued. However, in recent years there have been two ethical arguments by the Supreme Court in legalizing abortion that of pro life and pro choice. Despite the legal acceptance of abortion in some countries, the matter remains an ethical concern (Jones Chaloner, 2007). With this is mind, the writer s position is pro life from a deontological perspective. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica (2015), deontological emphasizes the relationship between duty and morality of human actions. The term deontology derives from the Greek deon, duty, and logos, science. Thus, pro life seek to advocate for the defenseless human being whose life is being unjustly taken away (Alcorn, 1994). Since all human life begins at conception the act of abortion can then be seen as murder because it is the act of taking someone s life. Abortion is an infringement on human life. In retrospect no civil society would allow for someone to take the life of another; for that reason, abortion must be viewed as morally wrong. Subsequently, the bible recognizes no crucial difference between the being in the womb and the being after birth. Hence, from conception and onwards, the individual is a person. Genesis ... • 32. Aerodynamics, A Subset Of Fluid Dynamics Aerodynamics, a subset of fluid dynamics, is the study of the behavior of objects when exposed to air. Hydrodynamics, another subset of fluid dynamics, is very similar to aerodynamics and has similar laws. However, hydrodynamics shows the behavior of liquids instead of gasses. Reynolds Numbers, created by British scientist and engineer Osborne Reynolds, describe the way fluids behave against objects. Bernoulli s principle, discovered by Daniel Bernoulli, states that faster fluid flow creates lower pressure, and slower fluid flow creates higher pressure. There are 4 main forces, drag, lift, thrust and weight. Lift is the force that counters weight. It occurs when the pressure of the object below the object is greater than the pressure above it. The second force, thrust, counters drag. It propels the object in a given direction and can be provided by turbofans, turboprops, propfans, etc. on an airplane, but can also be provided for an arrow by the bowstring. Weight counters lift and varies with mass. The greater the mass, the greater the force of weight is. The last force, drag, counters thrust. The air particles stick to the object, creating friction and heat which slows the object. Drag occurs everywhere where there is a fluid, with almost (practically) no effect in space. With the four main forces, flight can occur. There are two types of flight, powered flight and coastal flight.
