The Importance Of The Human Brain
The human brain is the direction for the nervous system. The brain tells the human what to do such as,
it receives the input from the sensory organs, and then sends output to the muscles (Lewis, 2016). The
human brain has responsibilities in the body just like the other organs, but has its own duties to
maintain (Lewis, 2016). However, the human brain makes up 2 percent of the human body weight
(Lewis, 2016). The cerebrum is the largest part of the human brain, and is branched into two different
hemispheres (Lewis, 2016). Individuals also call the two the left and the right hemisphere. The
brainstem is located underneath, and the cerebellum sits behind it (Lewis, 2016). The human brain is
also divided into three different sections which is known as the forebrain, midbrain, and the hindbrain
(Lewis, 2016). Each of the sections have something in common which is fluid filled cavities called
ventricles (Lewis, 2016). There are still more pathways in the future that need to be explored to clearly
under the human brain.
Understanding the Human Brain There are still different pathways to be explored in our understanding
of the human brain due to there is different studies that come as the years progress. One of the
components that will still be open to the question is the several factors that affect the human brain that
causes mental illnesses. The defining of the human brain is complication, and how the complication
comes from the wide range of numerous factors that result in a

Shakopee New Learning Model Analysis
Shakopee made a new decision in 2014 to transform their high school by introducing a new learning
model called the Academies of Shakopee. It features small learning communities in which a student
chooses an area of interests to base their high school career on. Students will have majority of their
classes based around the academy they choose to be a part of, this would include their core classes
such as, English, Science, Social Studies and Math. The academies are meant to make a big school
feel small with their small learning communities and similar groups of students based on interests and
teachers. The academies will consist of six different career paths and the Freshman Academy for
incoming ninth graders. Students would have the opportunity to participate in internships,
individualized learning path and personalized learning, 1:1 technology integration, teachers working

They are also meant to help you find your interests. However, the idea of choosing what you want to
do as a sophomore in high school is overwhelming for students According to Anxiety and Depression
Association of America(ADAA), one in every eight children are affected by an anxiety disorder.
Those are just the cases in which they are diagnosed by a doctor, making that number even higher. The
fact that many students already suffer with mental health issues should be alarming when considering
their high school career. The academies could place an even higher amount of stress on teens due to
the fact that they are forced to choose an academy their sophomore year. Students are also required to
finish off the semester in the academy for a whole semester if not switched within the first ten days.
This forces students to stay within a specific area of study even if they do not enjoy it. This could
result in lack of engagement, and grades dropping due to lack of

Rawls Maximin Principle
Rawls Maximin Principle: Is It Really The Most Rational Solution?
Political philosophy aims to reflect the normative and conceptual dimensions of political life.
American philosopher John Rawls is widely recognized as one of the leading political philosophers of
the twentieth century. His A Theory of Justice (1971) is one of the primary texts in political
philosophy and proposes two principles of justice. The first, the liberty principle, defines basic
liberties and the second, the difference principle, regulates disparity within rights, powers, and
privileges through what is known as a maximin strategy . The difference principle and underlying
maximin strategy, as any theory, has several credible components as well as some that ... Show more

If you have a strong desire to get more than the minimum outcome, then it will be rational to go for
the option with a greater maximum possibility, even if it has a minimum which is worse than the
others. The final condition is that the alternatives have unacceptable worst possible outcomes. If the
alternatives had acceptable minimums, then one might be willing to take a blind chance, and opt for
principles that may result in a system in which you have less than you could have – since the least isn
t so bad .
In theory, the difference principle and maximin solution seem quite plausible but after close scrutiny
one begins to notice the loopholes that arise and are cause for criticism. These loopholes can be found
in many aspects of the theory, in particular the definition of the original position, the influence of
natural talents on inequalities, and the risk adverse specification.
The description of the original position is rigged to yield the difference principle as Rawls will admit .
Those who object to the conditions of the veil of ignorance purpose that people in the original position
will not opt for a maximin solution because it is not a rational principle to follow under conditions of
ignorance about the probability of outcomes. Rather, under such conditions it is most rational to count
each outcome as equally likely. For instance, given the number of possible outcomes

Mental Health Intensive Case Management Program
The Mental Health Intensive Case Management program (MHICM) was created to improve the
quality of life for people dealing with severe mental illness. Also to helped build skills that one can
use to live successfully in the community at large. Veterans who are referred to MHICM are male and
female range in age from there early twenty s to their eighties. Unfortunately the main diagnosed for
many of these veterans is schizophrenia and other severe mood disorders. No one symptom or sign is
found in all individuals; rather, the final diagnosis rest upon the total symptom picture (E. Fuller

a week. This is done so that the veteran who has issues coming to a VA facility won t have to miss
treatment. Case Mangers depending on the severity of illness will commit to a more intensive case

agreement who are motoring the veteran. Case Manager and psychiatrist who hold daily rounds will

African Americans After Reconstruction
True compassion does not sit on the laps of renovation; it dives with an approach to reconstruction.
Don t throw a coin at a begger. Rather, destroy his source of poverty. ― Israelmore Ayivor (Chandler,
2007). This quote not only explains what the purpose of the reconstruction was, but also the means on
how to succeed. Africans after The Reconstruction not only didn t have rights, but living became
worse than what it was. There became a competition between rich vs. poor, native born vs. immigrants
and workers vs. capitalist. Blacks never had an equal chance to live and work to provide for their
families, and this caused social tension all around. The whites never wanted anyone to be superior to
them, and they began to take harsh actions against blacks because they saw the potential ... Show more

Whites wanted to put fear in the hearts of the blacks so the first thing they thought to do was take
physical action. This resulted in lynching, which is the killing of someone by hanging, for an offense
with or without the fair justice of a legal trial. They began to do this as a punishment because of the
demanding need of social control over the southern states after the Civil War and Reconstruction Era.
Racial terrorism was at its peak and the whites didn t want any blacks to have power or justice now or
later so then came the publishing of the Jim Crow Laws. These were state and local laws that enforced
racial segregation in the Southern States of the US between 1874 and 1975. Jim Crow Laws were
made to further the whites in their superiority and suppress blacks to become nothing. For example,
the law of imprisonment stated that, The warden shall see that the white convicts shall have separate

The Nazis And The Superior Race
It is strange to study one of Europe s darkest periods and wonder how on Earth so many people
believed in the Nazis and the superior race. As much as anyone hates to admit it, Hitler was one heck
of a leader, by amassing millions of followers and being able to keep them. He could have only held
so much power by believing in his cause so much that others could not help but believe it too. Hitler,
Rosenburg, and other Nazi leaders saw the Jews as a separate, inbred, greedy, race who were trying to
dominate the economy and essentially take over the world. Though anti semitism had existed for
many centuries prior to this, it was enflamed like never before by propaganda and publications such as
The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. These racist ideals were codified in the Nuremberg Laws set forth
in 1935. This modern anti semitism was different in both kind and intensity than previously seen in
Europe. Interesting enough, are the influences the different leaders of the Nazi party had on each other
in their ideologies that became the platform for their party. Hitler was the most well known leader of
this cause. Everything Hitler believed was inspired by Karl Lueger, the mayor of Vienna when Hitler
was studying art there. Lueger was the leader of the anti Semitic Christian Social Party in Vienna.
Hitler got his idea for the Final Solution from Lueger s advocacy for the partial extermination of
Austria s Jews. During his time in Vienna, Hitler had a world view with the notion that

New Road Bikes On Friday Morning
Doris and I ride our new road bikes on Friday morning. For ten minutes we warm up, and then, pedal
in the direction to Malibu. The air is cool with early morning fog. Doris leads and I follow. Her pace is
faster than usual. No problem. I ride my bike to ride my bike. I have a low keyed Friday. I ve
scheduled a pitch meeting at eleven with a new writer. The agent I met recently said his client Thinks
out of the box. I would rather that and am keen to meet him. There s an hour before, so I print a copy
of the development report. I read through, and highlight in yellow, the screenplays in limbo. I note

We leave the building, and stroll towards the parking lot. I reveal that the purpose of the bike ride is to
raise money for leukemia research and to honor of an eleven year old girl, Elizabeth, who died from
the disease. Text me the name of the charity, and I ll have my accountant write a check.
That s fantastic, thanks. When I arrive home, I eat a sparse dinner of fish, veggies, and brown rice.
The food doesn t satisfy. I head to the kitchen to eat plain yogurt with berries. But devour an entire
pint of French vanilla ice cream with two half frozen brownies instead. After, I stay up late and binge
watch the remaining episodes of Game of Thrones. And fall asleep close to midnight. On Saturday
morning, there s no time for coffee. I over slept. Doris drives us to meet Gordon and Zak at a street
near Sepulveda. I sit in silence and run my tongue across my teeth. Yuck. I d forgotten to brush them
or my hair. And worse yet, I look disheveled wearing Khaki shorts, a worn tee shirt and a gray wool
sweater with a hood. Not the bike apparel I bought in the REI store earlier this week. I glance over at
Doris, who s wearing the perfect cycling outfit. Her appearance is flawless. When we meet up with
Zak and Gordon, both are eager to get started. It s apparent that I just rolled out of bed. We stretch for
ten minutes or more. Next we get on our bikes. Zak leads our

Waknuk And The Fringes In The Chrysalids By John Wyndham
People in this world mature in different ways, by the way, they have been affected in their life and it
builds up to someone who has responsibilities as an adult. Our difficult situations make us overcome
our responsibilities and achieve our goals due to our problems. People in communities want to have
safety and be proud of their work in the community that they have made for people who are normal.
The communities of Waknuk and The Fringes in The Chrysalids by John Wyndham are very different
and to overcome their difficulties they use their strengths to achieve goals and bring others down
when the Fringes are trying to overcome adversity and mature by understanding their situation that
they need to overcome. Joseph Storm has rules that are beliefs that have been made for a long period
of time and it leads to people not being allowed to act without clearly proving their point that is not
always accepted because of the beliefs that are not to be changed. In our world, we need the advice to
lead us to our decisions that are not always agreed upon. The goals of the Waknuk community are
strong and hurt others for their differences as a mutant. They are respected, but people have fear and
the Waknuk community is using that for their goals. Joseph Storm does not let anyone accompaniment
their ideas. He sees people not for whom they are, but what they are. When David tells Joseph his idea
that it is not a big deal being a mutant there is no way Joseph could

Pop, Country, Rap, Or Classical Music
Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and
charm and gaiety to life and to everything. ~Plato. Plato was one of the more highly regarded
philosophers of his time. H e made some fantastic discoveried throughout his life, but this might be
one of the more relevant and profound to today s society. Music can be described in so many ways.
Even more than in Plato s time because he probably wasn t busting rhymes in a rap battle every other

a soul for the universe and it does so through many different genres. A few examples could be Pop,

The idea of rap is all about music that is not understandable and confusing. The ultimate sound of rap
resounds as garbled and electronic. The idea of rap revolves around lack of musical talent and relying
on a computer. Although this is not everyone s position, it is true, but Pop has a different sound. The
sound of pop still hints at the electronic nature of rap, but it differs in the fact that it is understandable.
It still lacks the true instrumental sound that country and classical entertain. The pop usually has
strong vocals and good harmony, but it retains the computerized sound that is similar to rap. Moving
on, Classical has a simple, yet complex sound. It has lost all of the complex electronic sound that rap
and pop retain. This genre falls short in the category of understanding. Especially when teachers play
it too loudly during a test. Although it usually has the smoothest sound, the vocals can sometimes be
too long and confusing. Finally, Country has the best sound out of these four type of music. The genre
of Country music has a complex mix of instruments without the complex computerization. It also is
very understandable and the sound is comforting in a

Growing Up Animal Research Paper
Growing Up Animal
All animals are raised differently. Animals parent their offspring in different ways, mostly varying on
what climate they live in. Animals that are raised in the ocean are going to be raised differently from
animals that live in the desert. For some the struggles could be avoiding the top predators and for
others it could be learning to hunt as the top predators. Ranging temperatures also play a factor.
Animals that live in the ocean won t have to worry about when to hibernate or when to really stock up
on food while other animals will. Animals also learn in different ways. One may also learn by
watching the older adults in the group. Killer Whales are a mighty ocean animal. Killer whales live

Older wolves will regurgitate food for their pups (Rainsford). Three weeks after being born a wolf can

When the pups are 6 months old they follow the pack to watch them hunt (Musgrave, Wolf Speak:

New York State Report
New York first began its imprint onto our nation, when the Dutch settled there, in 1626. New York has
always been a leading influence in history when it came to its geographical location, economy, and
power in the United States. New York is the third most populated state with close to 19.5 million
people living there today. Their state motto is Excelsior, ever upward , which truly was exemplified
after the disaster of 9/11. New York has shown the nation how to get back up after literally being torn
down. Even with their past history, they ve maintained to be one of the top leading and beautiful states
today. Their state flower is a rose as it symbolizes love and beauty. Their capital city is Albany, which
has a long history of it s own. In 1664, the Dutch surrendered their power to the British. King Charles
II granted the territory of New York and several other areas to his brother James, the Duke of York and
Albany. He changed the already established cities of Beverwyck and New Amsterdam what is New
York City today to Albany and New York. In the 18th century, Albany was a trading center specifically
for salve trade as Africans were being brought there. Albany was used as a center for military planning
and as a supply center for the French and Indian war and for the American Revolution. Later as New

The Controversy Over The English Language Of The World
The English language began its climb to world dominance with the rise of the British Empire in the
16th century. During this time English began to spread as the worlds lingua franca for business and
trade. With the support of the United States, which at the time was one of the most successful nations
in history, english was able to overthrow all previous lingua francas. However, english should not be
considered as the gateway to the world . Although the english language is widely spoken around the
world, making english language the official language of the world will lead to diminishing cultural
diversity.
Intrinsic arguments describe the English language as providential, rich, noble and interesting. Such
arguments tend to assert what English is and what other languages are not . As mentioned previously,
notwithstanding that the english language is widely spoken around the world, diversity is important
and for many individuals language is the basis of their culture. Making english the global language is

These arguments describe english as advantageous and dominant, however they do not describe the
limitations of the english language. The truth is that English is an incredibly difficult language to learn
with its various grammar, punctuation and usage rules. I would assume that the majority of people
who agree that english should be the world s official tongue have never attempted to learn any other
languages.
Functional arguments emphasize the usefulness of English as a gateway to the world . I do agree that
english useful language in that it is an effective way to communicate thoughts and ideas, however I do
not agree that it is the gateway to the world . Instead I believe that english can potentially be a co

Lee De Forest
Lee De Forest was born Aug. 26, 1873, Council Bluffs, Iowa. De Forest was the son of a
Congregational minister. His father moved the family to Alabama and there assumed the presidency of
the nearly bankrupt Talladega College for Negroes. Excluded by citizens of the white community who
resented his father s efforts to educate blacks, Lee and his brother and sister made friends from among
the black children of the town and spent a happy although sternly disciplined childhood in this rural
community. (Kraeuter, 74). As a child he was fascinated with machinery and was often excited when
hearing of the many technological advances during the late 19th century. He began tinkering and

The audion helped AT amp;T set up coast to coast phone service, and it was also used in everything
from radios to televisions to the first computers. (A Science Odyssey: People and Discoveries, 1999).
By the time he died he had over 300 patents, but few of them ever had much success. In fact, De
Forest seemed to have a long streak of failures. He was regularly involved in patent lawsuits (indeed,
he spent his fortune on legal bills). He went through four marriages, had a number of failed
companies, was defrauded by his business partners, and was even once indicted (but later acquitted)
for mail fraud. (Kraeuter, 79).
With the audion, however, De Forest had a solid success. De Forest has been labeled one of the fathers
of the electronic age, since the audion helped start the explosion of electronics earlier this century.

The Modern Concept Of Lean Management
The modern concept of lean management as used today can be traced back to the Toyota Production
System (TPS). The manufacturing philosophy was pioneered by Japanese engineers to emphasize the
minimization of waste and focus on doing it right the first time (Davis and Heineke, 2005). Engineers
knew that waste was something that customers were not willing to pay for thus they should try and
eliminate it. This led to the discovery that inventory is essentially waste. Keeping parts and products
in stock adds no value to a company, and should be eliminated. Although lean production began in
Japan, it now has been successfully implemented across the globe (Agus and Hajinoor, 2012). The
integrated activity, know as lean production in supply chain management, is designed to achieve high
volume flexible production using very minimal inventories of raw materials. This is based on the idea
that nothing will be produced until it is need. The process is implemented throughout the supply chain
with the signal essentially moving backwards from the customer all the way back to raw materials.
Lean production is an entire new way of thinking which includes the integration of vision, culture, and
strategy to serve the customer with high quality, low cost, and short delivery times (Shook and
Womack, 2015). Lean production is generally described from two points of view, either from a
philosophical perspective related to guiding principles and overarching goals, or from the practical

Analysis Of Abbey s Desert Solitaire
Abbey s, Desert Solitaire, consistently displays incredible verbal and physical imagery throughout the
novel. Visualize a crystal clear stream in the forest. Watch as it speeds and dribbles it s way through
nature, swerving past each tree. See the liquid jump for joy over the ageless rocks. Listens to the
harmonious and synchronized beat; the arteries of the forest. Bend your head down, and drink from it.
Every nerve on your tongue is shocked by the cold. The aroma of the forest is most powerful. Take
this experience with you, remembering, Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit,
and as vital to our lives as water and good bread (Abbey). As a huge advocate for the environment,
Edward Abbey and many others support the fight for clean water. In the United States, as well as
worldwide, unpolluted water should not be an expectation, yet should feel like an overwhelming
privilege. The current water pollution in many American cities is serious to the extent of illness,
injury, and death. Using a small city like Flint, Michigan, as a massive advocate for clean water
change represents how a little goes a long way. Flint, Michigan, continues to struggle with the public
health crisis that unfolded as pollutant measures in the cities tap water spiked to alarming levels. Now

Somalia Cultural Identity

Every time Cultural identity and immigration is discussed. I am a Somalia Muslim woman and Just
like many immigrants in the united states, I also identify as an American. My parents migrated from
their home in the horn of Africa when the civil war broke out. This seems simple, Somalis left their

I am, I will give few facts and background history. Somalia is a long, narrow country that wraps
around the Horn of Africa. It has the longest coast of any African nation, bordering on both the Red
Sea and the Indian Ocean. The inland areas are predominantly plateaus, with the exception of some
rugged mountains in the far north. The northern region is more arid, whereas the southern portion of
the country receives more rainfall. Many Somalis are nomadic or semi nomadic herders, some are
fishermen, and some farmers. Mogadishu is the capital and largest city. Somalia is composed of a
single, homogeneous ethnic group. Although Somalis may differ in nuances of local lifestyle, they
share one language, religion, and culture, and trace their heritage to a common ancestor. Colonial rule
began in the mid 1800s and divided the land inhabited by ethnic Somalis into several territories. The
French controlled the northernmost region (the area that is now Djibouti), the British colonized

Suspense In The Martian
Every minute, scientists are getting closer to coming up with solutions for colonizing Mars. In The
Martian, there is a main character named Mark Watney. He ends up getting trapped on Mars because
he was on a mission, and the rest of the people on the mission left him to go to Earth. After a while,
Mark realizes that nobody on Earth knows he s still alive and that he might not be able to survive on
Mars. One of the major themes of this book is problem solving. Throughout the storyline, Mark has to
make some decisions that result in life or death situation. This book is highly interesting because it is
filled with lots of suspense, humor, as well as hints about author Andy Weir s life all tied in throughout
the story.

An example of this is when Mark is trying to construct a potato farm on Mars. Yeah. This all sounds
like a great idea with no chance of catastrophic failure. That was all sarcasm, by the way (Weir, 40).
Weir adds sarcasm in parts of the story where people are in tons of danger, or, in this case, going to
die, to break the suspense and add some humor. Weir also adds humor in when Mark is bored and
doing another useless journal entry. How come Aquaman can control whales? They re mammals!
Makes no sense (Weir 64). Weir adds in little bits of random humor, usually in the middle of
something incredibly frightening, to show that in the center of all this, Mark still finds time to be
bored. In this novel, Weir uses lots of humor to break up suspense and humor to establish a connection

The Innocence Of Emily In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily
The Innocence of Emily William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily starts out at Emily s funeral and then
goes onto a story about taxes, which Miss Emily is exempt from paying for life by Colonel Sartoris.
During her life, Miss Emily s father kept her isolated and ran off any potential suitors with a
horsewhip. When her father died, Miss Emily refused to acknowledge the fact for three days. Soon
after, Miss Emily met and started dating Homer Barron, a northerner and a day laborer. The town goes
from being happy about the relationship to thinking of it as indecent. Homer seemingly deserted Miss
Emily shortly after she bought poison. All is quiet for the next 40 years until Miss Emily s death when
Homer s corpse is found sealed in an upstairs room (Faulkner 323 327). This paints a picture of a
lonely, desperate woman. Miss Emily was isolated with just a butler for company. That does not make
her a murder. Emily Grierson is innocent of murder because any evidence is circumstantial or illegally
obtained, Tobe cared for Miss Emily enough to kill for her, and Miss Emily is legally insane. Any
evidence against Miss Emily is circumstantial or illegally obtained. When Miss Emily bought arsenic,
the druggist labeled it as being For Rats (Faulkner 325). The townspeople assumed it was for suicide
(326) but did not question it. The arsenic could have been used for any number of pests around the
house. Around Miss Emily s time, arsenic was being used as part of a beauty regiment

The Epicureans By Their Writings Have Seized The Whole Of...

In the Tusculan Disputations, Cicero wrote The Epicureans by their writings have seized the whole of
Italy. Indeed, this often neglected or dismissed branch of philosophy played a great role in the
development of the culture of Rome through the late Republican period. It can prove difficult to find
examples of noteworthy Epicureans holding political office compared with their polemic counterparts,
the Stoics, largely because of the Epicurean teaching [one must] live without being noticed. Still, there
are a few who hold public office despite their Epicurean beliefs, or perhaps more appropriately,
continue to hold Epicurean beliefs despite the social expectation to aspire to public office. From the
writings and of Cicero and Lucretius, we can come to understand the immense impact Epicureanism
had on Roman culture.
The first chronicled Roman who was classically trained in Epicureanism is Titus Albucius, a member
of the upper class living around 100 B.C.E. who spent his youth studying philosophy and oration in
Athens. Albucius grew fond of Epicureanism and declared himself a devotee of the school; however,
after reaching adulthood, Albucius returned to Rome to follow the cursus honorum, eventually ending
up as praetor of a province. After being exiled, Albucius went back to Athens and fully dedicated
himself to Epicureanism by abandoning the political life entirely. Indeed, a seemingly innocuous

Lao Tzu And Tao Te Ching
Taoism is one of the most indigenous philosophical practices of China that is defined as a way of
maximizing power. Many people believed that Taoism originated based on the teachings of Lao Tzu,
who lived in the 6th century. Tao Te Ching and Chaung Tzu focused on two most prominent Taoist
writings in that era. Tao Te Ching, written by Lao Tzu translated the literary piece known as The
Classic of the Way and its Power . Taoism symbolizes the idea of oneness; it introduces philosophical
concepts such as ying and yang. Yin is related to darkness while yang is associated with brightness
and interrelates with the wu wei. Although the wu wei means non action, not only does it correlate
with the Tao but also guides individuals the way to an enlightened human being. ... Show more

We wei underlines the way of life in an active yet yielding manner; it emphasizes the importance of
preventing, forceful, aggressive and self assertive actions. Wu wei methodologically interprets that it
is wiser to accept the opposing force of presence rather than reject it; however, it indicates not
completely surrendering to the opposition at the expense of one s own existence. As Lao Tzu asserted
in Tao Te Ching, the symbolism of water is the most acute representation of we wei in Taoism. Water
in a spiritual way is ubiquitous, under heaven nothing is more soft and yielding than water, yet for
attacking the solid and strong nothing is better (seventy eight). It implies that water can conform into
any shape that the vessel holds; for example, what Lao Tzu means by soft and yielding is that water
can change its shape and transform into solid; it represents different energetic

Verity never met each other, their books take place on complete opposite sides of the earth and are

Verity and Arnold have many similar traits, one of their most prominent traits that they have in
common is that they are both brave. I want to go to Reardan I said. Reardan is the rich white town...
They have one of the best small schools in the state, with a computer room and a huge chemistry
room. (Alexie 45 46) In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, Arnold is approached by

Technical Education Vs. Vocational Education
Technical education, also more commonly known as vocational education, has been around for a long
period of time, first starting to appear federally funded in high school classrooms in mid 1917. Picture

school and work at a fast food restaurant. Then they walk into their first day of Agriculture (A.G.)
where they will be learning about welding and the fine arts of fabrication. After the first couple days

Houle always had an attraction for teaching welding because he had a close relationship with his high
school welding teacher. However, in order for Houle to teach, he needed to receive his teaching
credentials, which in turn meant he would have to go to college. And when it came to academics,
Houle was far behind because the highest level of math he had taken was Algebra 1. The goal was to
get people to work (Houle) Vocational education was not intended to prepare students for college.
More than 117 years ago, an assortment of groups of people started advocating for the use of new
vocational education programs in schools. A majority of supporters for vocational education consisted
of businessmen and labor unions, who saw it as an answer to problems of skilled labor shortages and a
way to help heal unemployment in a swiftly industrializing society. There are also two sides to the
story. While employers were anticipating the weakening of labor unions, the workers saw it as
opportunity for not only individual advancement, but also a means of dignifying labor. Many people
regarded vocational training as an opportunity to teach and learn the value of work because they
believed the value was being washed out of modern society. Actually, educators and teachers were
excited about vocational education because they could practice new teaching methods that emphasized
children s interests

Trading On Heterosexuality Analysis
Through the use of interviews and ethnographic data on a college party dorm at a large Midwestern
university, Laura Hamilton s article( Trading on Heterosexuality: College Women s Gender Strategies
and Homophobia ) refutes the idea that women are not homophobic. Hamilton s research demonstrates
that heterosexual women intentionally distance themselves from lesbians, in an attempt to increase
their status in the erotic marketplace. The party scene /erotic marketplace encourages women to dress
and act in ways that garner male attention(e.g., flirting with men for alcohol and dressing scantily).
The more involved the women were in the party scene(and thus more engaged in the marketplace), the
more likely they were to exclude lesbians. I have

Childcare Is An Attractive Business Opportunity
Background
Childcare in Australia reflects a market system, providing an attractive business opportunity, as the
Commonwealth guarantees up to 50% of the organisations income. However, markets and childcare
are a poor combination, with the price of quality services increasing, leaving individuals of low socio
economic status (SES) with poorer quality education (Phillips, 2009).
Currently, childcare in Australia encourages inflation and does not incentivise women to work
(FactCheck, 2015). The Commonwealth provides 3 primary payments, The Childcare Benefit (CCB),
The Childcare Rebate (CCR) and the Jobs, Education and Training Childcare Fee Assistance
(JETCCFA). Further details are in Appendix A.
The Coalition s Proposition

This essentially doubled the price the consumer was willing to pay. In a supply and demand market,
this allowed the supplier to charge more, leading to hyperinflated prices.
The benchmark price means that the Commonwealth will pay 50% of the cost of the childcare, up to a
certain amount. For example, with a benchmark of $10/hour, parents would receive no more
compensation for $30/hour childcare than for $20/hour care.
Changes for low income earners (LIEs)
Those earning under $65,000/year may receive up to 12 hours of childcare/week with no activity test,
reduced from 24. The Childcare subsidy for these LIEs will be 85% of the fee, or the benchmark price
whichever is lower.
Changes for middle income earners (MIEs)
For MIEs, the childcare subsidy will be either 50% of the fees charged, or the benchmark price
whichever is lower.
There will be no cap on the amount of subsidies MIEs and LIEs can receive.
Changes for high income earners (HIEs)
HIE s cap will increase to $10,000 per child, from $7,500 received through the CCR. Their childcare
subsidy will be either 50% of fees, or the benchmark price whichever is lower.
Introduction of Nannies
The Government proposed an In Home Care program, permitting Nannies to deliver services to those
whose needs do not suit traditional childcare centres, such shift workers and those in remote areas.

$7 Billion was spent on childcare between 2014 2015. The proposed

What Is A Good Character Essay
What is character? Character is something that is hard to explain. It is who we are, the way we act, and
the kind of person we truly are and want to be. Character is what you are in the dark. But if character
is the kind of person you are when no one is looking, then why does it matter? Character matters
because even when we think no one is looking, they are. People are always watching us and the way
we behave and many will look to us in admiration and inspiration, so it is our job to constantly be a
role model of good character. A couple of ways that we can show our character are through gratitude
and respect, but we can also look up to others, such as Benjamin Franklin, as role models for good
character. Showing gratitude towards others is a great way to express good character. Being thankful
and showing appreciation for those in our lives helps us strengthen our character and show others the
good in ourselves. Being grateful is also a way of being humble and allowing others to see that we don
t think we are better than them. Gratitude can sometimes be hard to find, but there are many ways to
show how grateful we are. Thank you cards, gift baskets, personal thank you s, gifts, and small acts of
kindness are great ways to show the people in our lives that we ... Show more content on

way to earn respect is to give respect. People always say that we reap what we sow and respect is a
great example of this. When we are respectful to other they will, in turn, be respectful to us. Someone

Importance of National Income
A variety of measures of national income and output are used in economics to estimate total economic
activity in a country or region, including gross domestic product (GDP), gross national product
(GNP), net national income (NNI), and adjusted national income (NNI* adjusted for natural resource
depletion). All are specially concerned with counting the total amount of goods and services produced
within some boundary . The boundary is usually defined by geography or citizenship, and may also
restrict the goods and services that are counted. For instance, some measures count only goods and
services that are exchanged for money, excluding bartered goods, while other measures may attempt
to include bartered goods by imputing monetary values to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the complication of the multiple stages in the production of a good or service, only the
final value of a good or service is included in the total output. This avoids an issue often called double
counting , wherein the total value of a good is included several times in national output, by counting it
repeatedly in several stages of production. In the example of meat production, the value of the good
from the farm may be $10, then $30 from the butchers, and then $60 from the supermarket. The value
that should be included in final national output should be $60, not the sum of all those numbers, $90.
The values added at each stage of production over the previous stage are respectively $10, $20, and
$30. Their sum gives an alternative way of calculating the value of final output.
Formulae:
GDP(gross domestic product) at market price = value of output in an economy in the particular year
intermediate consumption
NNP at factor cost = GDP at market price depreciation + NFIA (net factor income from abroad) net
indirect taxes[3]
[edit]The income approach
The income approach equates the total output of a nation to the total factor income received by
residents or citizens of the nation. The main types of factor income are:
Employee compensation (cost of fringe benefits, including unemployment, health, and retirement
benefits);
Interest received net of interest paid;
Rental income (mainly for the use of real estate) net of

Huntington s Disease ( Hd ) Essay
Huntington s disease (HD) is a late onset, usually between 35 and 50 years old, neurodegenerative
disorder prevalent in 3 7 per 100,000 people of European ancestry1. The disease, inherited in an
autosomal dominant pattern2, is characterized by motor disturbance, intellectual decline, and
psychiatric manifestations3. The disease is difficult to detect at an early stage of an individual s life
since its symptoms appear in the third to fifth decade of life. To better understand the disease,
investigations were done to identify the gene that is linked with the disease. The researchers in this
paper relied on the polymorphic protein markers or enzymes which they excluded in the 20% of the
genome. However, the lack of additional markers made it impossible to test the remaining part of the
genome.
With the use of recombinant DNA technology, the study aimed to use the restriction fragment length
polymorphisms (RFLPs) as DNA markers to determine linkage of the disease gene in large
multigenerational families. Two large families, with Huntington s disease, were used in the study.
Pedigrees of the American and Venezuelan families showing a clear autosomal dominant pattern of
inheritance of the disease were established. Family members having the disease were examined by an
experienced and knowledgeable neurologist to make sure that these individuals really possessed the
said disease. Blood samples from these individuals were collected and analyzed using 20 red blood

Pedro Almodovar, in his recent films Talk to Her (Hable con Ella) (2002) and

The use of colour is also instrumental in Pedro Almodovar s pop art style. The incorporation of
classical Catholic themed oil paintings in Elena s bedroom and also the images Lydia s sister is
arranging in the hotel before the bull fight are examples of the pop art movement. Almodovar was a
significant influence on the emerging culture of Spanish youth since the 1980 s. Almodovar s
exploration of issues such as the drug culture in a non traditional manner is evident in both movies.
The narrative does not directly comment on Elena s addiction to freebase cocaine and gratuitously
Sancho asks David if he has any cocaine because coke dries your tears . The film s ideology seems to

Franco and the emergence of Spain from that dictatorial, repressive regime. The exploration of the

Essay On Elonis
In today s society, we as a nation showcase our lives through social media. The case, Elonis vs. The
United States, the petitioner, Anthony Douglas Elonis, is no different. He was an inspiring rap artist
and was using Facebook as a platform to share his lyrics. After his divorce, things got out of hand. He
started to post threatful lyrics about his wife, co workers, and a kindergarten school. One of his friends
saw these post and decided to report it. The FBI ended up getting involved and before long Elonis
found out and started to post about the FBI agent. The FBI then had enough of it, so they arrested him.
At the lower court the jury of his peers felt that the post constituted a reasonable threat and sentenced
him to 44 months in prison. He, of course, appealed it, sending it to the Supreme Court, saying that his

not everything is going to be one sided. We will get responses that are not positive towards our

shared with the world. We have to be careful how we share and what we share. Especially, in a
professional setting. This case is a prime example of such. In conclusion, we can walk away from this
case. We learn from this case not everything that is useful is helpful. Elonis artistic ability to write
lyrics was certainly useful to his career, but it was not helpful in advancing his career. We can learn
that words do indeed hurt those around us. In this case, even the fan who followed Elonis was in some
way hurt by these lyrics. He was concerned enough to take time out of his day and report his concerns.

The brain tells the human what to do such as, it receives the input from the sensory organs, and then sends output to the muscles (Lewis, 2016). The human brain has responsibilities in the body just like the other organs, but has its own duties to maintain (Lewis, 2016). However, the human brain makes up 2 percent of the human body weight (Lewis, 2016). The cerebrum is the largest part of the human brain, and is branched into two different hemispheres (Lewis, 2016). Individuals also call the two the left and the right hemisphere. The brainstem is located underneath, and the cerebellum sits behind it (Lewis, 2016). The human brain is also divided into three different sections which is known as the forebrain, midbrain, and the hindbrain (Lewis, 2016). Students will have majority of their classes based around the academy they choose to be a part of, this would include their core classes such as, English, Science, Social Studies and Math. The academies are meant to make a big school feel small with their small learning communities and similar groups of students based on interests and teachers. The academies will consist of six different career paths and the Freshman Academy for incoming ninth graders. Students are also required to finish off the semester in the academy for a whole semester if not switched within the first ten days. This forces students to stay within a specific area of study even if they do not enjoy it. This could result in lack of engagement, and grades dropping due to lack of ... American philosopher John Rawls is widely recognized as one of the leading political philosophers of the twentieth century. His A Theory of Justice (1971) is one of the primary texts in political philosophy and proposes two principles of justice. The first, the liberty principle, defines basic liberties and the second, the difference principle, regulates disparity within rights, powers, and privileges through what is known as a maximin strategy . If you have a strong desire to get more than the minimum outcome, then it will be rational to go for the option with a greater maximum possibility, even if it has a minimum which is worse than the others. The final condition is that the alternatives have unacceptable worst possible outcomes. If the alternatives had acceptable minimums, then one might be willing to take a blind chance, and opt for principles that may result in a system in which you have less than you could have – since the least isn t so bad . In theory, the difference principle and maximin solution seem quite plausible but after close scrutiny one begins to notice the loopholes that arise and are cause for criticism. These loopholes can be found in many aspects of the theory, in particular the definition of the original position, the influence of natural talents on inequalities, and the risk adverse specification. The description of the original position is rigged to yield the difference principle as Rawls will admit . Those who object to the conditions of the veil of ignorance purpose that people in the original position will not opt for a maximin solution because it is not a rational principle to follow under conditions of ignorance about the probability of outcomes. Rather, under such conditions it is most rational to count each outcome as equally likely. For instance, given the number of possible outcomes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Nazis And The Superior Race It is strange to study one of Europe s darkest periods and wonder how on Earth so many people believed in the Nazis and the superior race. As much as anyone hates to admit it, Hitler was one heck of a leader, by amassing millions of followers and being able to keep them. He could have only held so much power by believing in his cause so much that others could not help but believe it too. Hitler, Rosenburg, and other Nazi leaders saw the Jews as a separate, inbred, greedy, race who were trying to dominate the economy and essentially take over the world. Though anti semitism had existed for many centuries prior to this, it was enflamed like never before by propaganda and publications such as The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. These racist ideals were codified in the Nuremberg Laws set forth in 1935. This modern anti semitism was different in both kind and intensity than previously seen in Europe. Interesting enough, are the influences the different leaders of the Nazi party had on each other in their ideologies that became the platform for their party. Hitler was the most well known leader of this cause. Everything Hitler believed was inspired by Karl Lueger, the mayor of Vienna when Hitler was studying art there. Lueger was the leader of the anti Semitic Christian Social Party in Vienna. Hitler got his idea for the Final Solution from Lueger s advocacy for the partial extermination of Austria s Jews. • 17. The Modern Concept Of Lean Management The modern concept of lean management as used today can be traced back to the Toyota Production System (TPS). The manufacturing philosophy was pioneered by Japanese engineers to emphasize the minimization of waste and focus on doing it right the first time (Davis and Heineke, 2005). Engineers knew that waste was something that customers were not willing to pay for thus they should try and eliminate it. This led to the discovery that inventory is essentially waste. Keeping parts and products in stock adds no value to a company, and should be eliminated. Although lean production began in Japan, it now has been successfully implemented across the globe (Agus and Hajinoor, 2012). The integrated activity, know as lean production in supply chain management, is designed to achieve high volume flexible production using very minimal inventories of raw materials. This is based on the idea that nothing will be produced until it is need. The process is implemented throughout the supply chain with the signal essentially moving backwards from the customer all the way back to raw materials. Lean production is an entire new way of thinking which includes the integration of vision, culture, and strategy to serve the customer with high quality, low cost, and short delivery times (Shook and Womack, 2015). Lean production is generally described from two points of view, either from a philosophical perspective related to guiding principles and overarching goals, or from the practical ... Mitchol Dunham Master Katy Chenoweth Classical Humanities 2200 30 July 2015 In the Tusculan Disputations, Cicero wrote The Epicureans by their writings have seized the whole of Italy. Indeed, this often neglected or dismissed branch of philosophy played a great role in the development of the culture of Rome through the late Republican period. It can prove difficult to find examples of noteworthy Epicureans holding political office compared with their polemic counterparts, the Stoics, largely because of the Epicurean teaching [one must] live without being noticed. Still, there are a few who hold public office despite their Epicurean beliefs, or perhaps more appropriately, continue to hold Epicurean beliefs despite the social expectation to aspire to public office. From the writings and of Cicero and Lucretius, we can come to understand the immense impact Epicureanism had on Roman culture. The first chronicled Roman who was classically trained in Epicureanism is Titus Albucius, a member of the upper class living around 100 B.C.E. who spent his youth studying philosophy and oration in Athens. Albucius grew fond of Epicureanism and declared himself a devotee of the school; however, after reaching adulthood, Albucius returned to Rome to follow the cursus honorum, eventually ending up as praetor of a province. • 27. Technical Education Vs. Vocational Education Technical education, also more commonly known as vocational education, has been around for a long period of time, first starting to appear federally funded in high school classrooms in mid 1917. Picture a high school student that is struggling in their classes and sees no other option but to drop out of school and work at a fast food restaurant. Then they walk into their first day of Agriculture (A.G.) where they will be learning about welding and the fine arts of fabrication. After the first couple days of how to be safe in the shop, they discover that they really enjoy welding small structures, so they decide to stay in school. Several years later they graduate, and instead of mainstreaming and going to college, they are able to receive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Houle always had an attraction for teaching welding because he had a close relationship with his high school welding teacher. However, in order for Houle to teach, he needed to receive his teaching credentials, which in turn meant he would have to go to college. And when it came to academics, Houle was far behind because the highest level of math he had taken was Algebra 1. The goal was to get people to work (Houle) Vocational education was not intended to prepare students for college. More than 117 years ago, an assortment of groups of people started advocating for the use of new vocational education programs in schools. A majority of supporters for vocational education consisted of businessmen and labor unions, who saw it as an answer to problems of skilled labor shortages and a way to help heal unemployment in a swiftly industrializing society. There are also two sides to the story. While employers were anticipating the weakening of labor unions, the workers saw it as opportunity for not only individual advancement, but also a means of dignifying labor. Many people regarded vocational training as an opportunity to teach and learn the value of work because they believed the value was being washed out of modern society. Actually, educators and teachers were excited about vocational education because they could practice new teaching methods that emphasized children s interests ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Trading On Heterosexuality Analysis Through the use of interviews and ethnographic data on a college party dorm at a large Midwestern university, Laura Hamilton s article( Trading on Heterosexuality: College Women s Gender Strategies and Homophobia ) refutes the idea that women are not homophobic. Hamilton s research demonstrates that heterosexual women intentionally distance themselves from lesbians, in an attempt to increase their status in the erotic marketplace. The party scene /erotic marketplace encourages women to dress and act in ways that garner male attention(e.g., flirting with men for alcohol and dressing scantily). The more involved the women were in the party scene(and thus more engaged in the marketplace), the more likely they were to exclude lesbians. I have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Childcare Is An Attractive Business Opportunity Background Childcare in Australia reflects a market system, providing an attractive business opportunity, as the Commonwealth guarantees up to 50% of the organisations income. However, markets and childcare are a poor combination, with the price of quality services increasing, leaving individuals of low socio economic status (SES) with poorer quality education (Phillips, 2009). Currently, childcare in Australia encourages inflation and does not incentivise women to work (FactCheck, 2015). The Commonwealth provides 3 primary payments, The Childcare Benefit (CCB), The Childcare Rebate (CCR) and the Jobs, Education and Training Childcare Fee Assistance (JETCCFA). Further details are in Appendix A. The Coalition s Proposition The Coalition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This essentially doubled the price the consumer was willing to pay. In a supply and demand market, this allowed the supplier to charge more, leading to hyperinflated prices. The benchmark price means that the Commonwealth will pay 50% of the cost of the childcare, up to a certain amount. For example, with a benchmark of $10/hour, parents would receive no more compensation for $30/hour childcare than for $20/hour care. Changes for low income earners (LIEs) Those earning under $65,000/year may receive up to 12 hours of childcare/week with no activity test, reduced from 24. The Childcare subsidy for these LIEs will be 85% of the fee, or the benchmark price whichever is lower. Changes for middle income earners (MIEs) For MIEs, the childcare subsidy will be either 50% of the fees charged, or the benchmark price whichever is lower. There will be no cap on the amount of subsidies MIEs and LIEs can receive. Changes for high income earners (HIEs) HIE s cap will increase to $10,000 per child, from $7,500 received through the CCR. Their childcare subsidy will be either 50% of fees, or the benchmark price whichever is lower. Introduction of Nannies The Government proposed an In Home Care program, permitting Nannies to deliver services to those whose needs do not suit traditional childcare centres, such shift workers and those in remote areas. • 30. What Is A Good Character Essay What is character? Character is something that is hard to explain. It is who we are, the way we act, and the kind of person we truly are and want to be. Character is what you are in the dark. But if character is the kind of person you are when no one is looking, then why does it matter? Character matters because even when we think no one is looking, they are. People are always watching us and the way we behave and many will look to us in admiration and inspiration, so it is our job to constantly be a role model of good character. A couple of ways that we can show our character are through gratitude and respect, but we can also look up to others, such as Benjamin Franklin, as role models for good character. Showing gratitude towards others is a great way to express good character. Being thankful and showing appreciation for those in our lives helps us strengthen our character and show others the good in ourselves. Being grateful is also a way of being humble and allowing others to see that we don t think we are better than them. Gratitude can sometimes be hard to find, but there are many ways to show how grateful we are. • 31. Importance of National Income A variety of measures of national income and output are used in economics to estimate total economic activity in a country or region, including gross domestic product (GDP), gross national product (GNP), net national income (NNI), and adjusted national income (NNI* adjusted for natural resource depletion). All are specially concerned with counting the total amount of goods and services produced within some boundary . The boundary is usually defined by geography or citizenship, and may also restrict the goods and services that are counted. For instance, some measures count only goods and services that are exchanged for money, excluding bartered goods, while other measures may attempt to include bartered goods by imputing monetary values to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of the complication of the multiple stages in the production of a good or service, only the final value of a good or service is included in the total output. This avoids an issue often called double counting , wherein the total value of a good is included several times in national output, by counting it repeatedly in several stages of production. In the example of meat production, the value of the good from the farm may be $10, then $30 from the butchers, and then $60 from the supermarket. The value that should be included in final national output should be $60, not the sum of all those numbers, $90. The values added at each stage of production over the previous stage are respectively $10, $20, and $30. Their sum gives an alternative way of calculating the value of final output. Formulae: GDP(gross domestic product) at market price = value of output in an economy in the particular year intermediate consumption NNP at factor cost = GDP at market price depreciation + NFIA (net factor income from abroad) net indirect taxes[3] [edit]The income approach The income approach equates the total output of a nation to the total factor income received by residents or citizens of the nation. The main types of factor income are: Employee compensation (cost of fringe benefits, including unemployment, health, and retirement benefits); Interest received net of interest paid; Rental income (mainly for the use of real estate) net of ... • 32. Huntington s Disease ( Hd ) Essay Huntington s disease (HD) is a late onset, usually between 35 and 50 years old, neurodegenerative disorder prevalent in 3 7 per 100,000 people of European ancestry1. The disease, inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern2, is characterized by motor disturbance, intellectual decline, and psychiatric manifestations3. The disease is difficult to detect at an early stage of an individual s life since its symptoms appear in the third to fifth decade of life. To better understand the disease, investigations were done to identify the gene that is linked with the disease. The researchers in this paper relied on the polymorphic protein markers or enzymes which they excluded in the 20% of the genome. However, the lack of additional markers made it impossible to test the remaining part of the genome. With the use of recombinant DNA technology, the study aimed to use the restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) as DNA markers to determine linkage of the disease gene in large multigenerational families. Two large families, with Huntington s disease, were used in the study. Pedigrees of the American and Venezuelan families showing a clear autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance of the disease were established. Family members having the disease were examined by an experienced and knowledgeable neurologist to make sure that these individuals really possessed the said disease. Blood samples from these individuals were collected and analyzed using 20 red blood cell markers to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pedro Almodovar, in his recent films Talk to Her (Hable con Ella) (2002) and Live Flesh (Carne Trémula) (1997), has brought a thoroughly modern interpretation to the genre of melodrama. I didn t want the spectator to be faced with an atmosphere of pain or illness. What I wanted to show was the everyday life of some people who live there. The use of colour is also instrumental in Pedro Almodovar s pop art style. The incorporation of classical Catholic themed oil paintings in Elena s bedroom and also the images Lydia s sister is arranging in the hotel before the bull fight are examples of the pop art movement. Almodovar was a significant influence on the emerging culture of Spanish youth since the 1980 s. Almodovar s exploration of issues such as the drug culture in a non traditional manner is evident in both movies. The narrative does not directly comment on Elena s addiction to freebase cocaine and gratuitously Sancho asks David if he has any cocaine because coke dries your tears . The film s ideology seems to condone David s cannabis smoking as a healthier alternative to Sancho s drug of choice, namely, alcohol. Marco can be seen to be smoking a joint while he looks on at Benigno, Alicia and Alicia s ballet teacher on their balcony, in Talk to Her too. He was an inspiring rap artist and was using Facebook as a platform to share his lyrics. After his divorce, things got out of hand. He started to post threatful lyrics about his wife, co workers, and a kindergarten school. One of his friends saw these post and decided to report it. The FBI ended up getting involved and before long Elonis found out and started to post about the FBI agent. The FBI then had enough of it, so they arrested him.
