Reflection On Saint Augustine s Confessions
Throughout this class, I have grown so much from where I was at the beginning of the year. I think
that because the class was a collective effort rather than an individual one, it was more motivation for
me to participate properly because people other than myself were relying on me. Due to the fact that
we had written questions and homework for every reading as well as had to use a great deal of textual
evidence throughout the discussions, I was constantly looking to refer back to the text, and make sure
that my argument fit in with the discussion. Therefore, I got the most out of outcome four, using the
discussion and the process of writing to enhance my intellectual discovery. Specifically, a reading that
I feel like I used this outcome the most for was Saint Augustine s Confessions. Once I got through the
initial confusion, through the discussion and especially the second essay helped me develop his ideas
of rightly ordered love . That, then became what I primarily based my exploration of the text off of. It
was important to use Written and Oral Communication for this reading to see how much of an impact
all the situations had on Saint Augustine. Therefore, being engaged in the reading, writing and asking
the right questions, and using the discussion to further my understanding of the text was a strong
lesson I learned from Seminar 2. In regards to the Critical Thinking learning outcome, I found that
making the application and evaluation questions helped me most with

Self confidence plays such an important role in our life on a daily basis. Most of the time we just go
on with your day without ever thinking about how confident we feel about ourselves that is, until we
re faced with a huge decision or we need to perform a certain task and expect to do it well.
So creating a solid mindset to feel completely confident anytime and anywhere becomes a very
important quality that we can apply to most situations before they ever occur, thus making those
challenging moments so much easier to contend with and to help us feel better about them.
For most of us, trying just one method to gain confidence and maintain a confident mindset doesn t
always prove to be the best solution, but using a combination of several techniques may provide
exactly the key outcome to successfully achieve our ultimate goal.
Here are 10 strategies to the solutions that can be used alone, or in a combination to create or change
your mindset to gain the self confidence you deserve. (not necessarily in

The Golden Age of Athens
The Golden age of Athens
Fifth century Athens refers to the Greek city state of Athens in the period of roughly 480 BC 404 BC.
This was a period of Athenian political hegemony, economic growth and cultural flourishing formerly
known as the Golden Age of Athens or The Age of Pericles. The period began in 480 BC when an
Athenian led coalition of city states, known as the Delian League, defeated the Persians at Salamis. As
the fifth century wore on, what started as an alliance of independent city states gradually became an
Athenian empire. Eventually, Athens abandoned the pretense of parity among its allies and relocated
the Delian League treasury from Delos to Athens, where it funded the building of the
AthenianAcropolis. With its enemies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These measures appear to have been carried out in great measure since the testimony has come to us
from, (among others, the Greek historian Thucydides (c. 460 400 BCE), who comments: Everyone
who is capable of serving the city meets no impediment, neither poverty, nor civic condition...

The magistrates
The magistrates were people who occupied a public post and formed the administration of the
Athenian state. They were submitted to rigorous public control. The magistrates were chosen by lot,
using fava beans. Black and white beans were put in a box and depending on which color the person
drew out they obtained the post or not. This was a way of eliminating the personal influence of rich
people and possible intrigues and use of favors. There were only two categories of posts not chosen by
lot, but by election in the Popular Assembly. These were strategos, or general, and magistrate of
finance. It was generally supposed that significant qualities were needed to exercise each of those two
offices. A magistrate s post did not last more than a year, including that of the strategoi and in this
sense the continued selection of Pericles year after year was an exception. At the end of every year, a
magistrate would have to give an account of his administration and use of public finances.
The most honored posts were the ancient archontes, or archons in English. In previous ages they had

Educational Psychology Personal Statement
When I declared a psychology major during the second year of my undergraduate career, my objective
was to attend medical school and eventually become a psychiatrist. I enjoyed the psychology classes
in which I was enrolled and found them to compliment the premed curriculum I also wanted to study. I
reasoned that a major in psychology would provide insight that could later be useful in my planned
studies of psychiatry. Although I decided against going to medical school, psychology remained the
primary area of focus of my studies with the ultimate career goal of becoming a clinical psychologist.

The Raven A Man By Edgar Allan Poe
Romanticism has dated back since the 1780 s, the literature behind Romanticism is full with emotion,
passion and wildness. The characters in these passages are very distinguished, they are also iconic.
The stories are usually set a unknown place for example in a castle or in the woods, or they are set in a
known place where something is out of the ordinary. There is something supernatural going on within
the passage of writing. There are many thing that happen in the story that doesn t happen in everyday
life. For example in the poem The Raven a man is talking to a raven, this is persona faction at its
finest. There are often psychopathology themes or ideas within the writing whether it be a story or
poem .There are many mysterious things that happened in the Romanticism and there were two men
that were well known for it and are used as models when to comes to writing, those men are Nathanial
Hawthorne and Edgar Allan Poe. Although their styles of writing and backgrounds are different
because one comes from a wealthy background and the is an orphan, they are both know for being
great Romanticism writers Nathanial Hawthorne was born and raised in Salem Massachusetts. His
family was one of first puritan s families to come to the states. Hawthorne learned that his family was

Summary Of Zhang Ailing s Lust, Caution
Lust and Caution in Zhang Ailing s Lust, Caution
As the title suggests, Zhang Ailing s story Lust, Caution centralizes the themes of lust and caution in
the relationship between the Mr. Yi and Wang Jiazhi to represent the complex human nature. Lust in
this title specifically contains multiple meanings of love, desire, and relationship. Similarly, caution
means alert, self control, and ring. Zhang Ailing puts these two themes together to represent the
complicated internal consciousness of people in a man and woman relationship and dynamic between
man and woman.
During the Republican China, there were no other female writers who paid typical attention on
depicting sex successfully except Zhang Ailing. She has studied many western feminism ideologies, ...

On the surface, it s a story that tells how a traitor is risked by a sex trap by a passionate young student,
which fits the traditional ideology for men to be alert facing beautiful and sexy women. However,
under the surface, Zhang Ailing intends to express her sympathy towards women. Women employ
their bodies and loves to be the sacrifices for men to enjoy the honor and pleasure. In Jiazhi s case, she
sacrificed her body to achieve the nationalist goal but her classmates mocked her and discriminated
her. She fell in love with Mr. Yi and tried to save his life but then lost her own life. Before and during
the trick, the innocent Jiazhi actually has no idea about the nationalist goal as well as the sacrifice and
risk in this trick. She merely imagines herself in an exciting play. once Mr. Yi calls her at the first
time, Jiazhi fell in to the status of playing the role. When she tries the diamond ring, she still considers
that as a tool in the play. So when Mr. Yi hurried to pay for the ring and leave, she is concerning if her
classmates do not have enough time to prepare behind the stage. However, her classmates think totally
differently. They employ Jiazhi as a trick tool simply and regard her an indulgent woman because of
her beauty and sexy appearance. The relationship between Jiazhi and her classmates embodies another
form of caution towards the companions, which reflects the complex and turbulent society that

The world has always been the people who made the revolution in a particular field of activity.
Christopher Columbus, Nikola Tesla, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and many others have made the
world as it is now. This presentation describes another inventor, Steve Jobs, whose discoveries have
caused a revolution in the IT field. Steven Paul Jobs was born in San Francisco, February 24, 1955.
His biological parents who were not married, adopted him from a family of civil servants from the
South Bay area of San Francisco, Paul and Clara Jobs.
In high school, Steve Jobs decided to go to Reed College in Oregon. However, Steve studied in
college just one semester, then dropped. He devoted much time to the study of Eastern mysticism and
practiced a very strange diet, fasting, then ate some fruit; it was the hippie period of his life.

Analysis Of The Garden Of Eden By Francesco Solimena
The painting chosen to examine is The Garden of Eden by Francesco Solimena. This painting was
created between 1725 30. The medium of the painting is oil on canvas. The scale, although not
specified, appears to be about a couple feet high and a couple feet long. The general subject matter is
Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. It seems to be before they have discovered the forbidden fruit.
The figures seem to be embracing everything the garden has to offer, they seem content and
comfortable in their own skin. In most paintings, Adam and Eve are covered up after eating the
forbidden fruit, for they are shamed. The fact that they are shown in the nude most likely suggests that
they still have their innocence. An important thing to note about ... Show more content on

Immediately, my eyes are drawn to Adam and Eve, for they are the largest figures in the painting. All
of the characters are stylized to the tune of what the artist wants, for his figures, including the animals,
are shown as very muscular, not very naturalistic. This is similar to Michelangelo s characters, he
believed that the mans body is the pinnacle of god s creation, using the male body as the body of all of
his characters, men and women included. These figures are also similar to the Greeks, who were very
focused on the human body. The color used in this painting is not too obvious, it seems like a pretty
dark colored painting when first looking at it. After further examination, I started to notice more colors
that are throughout the piece. There is blue, which is part of the angel s garment. In religious
paintings, blue often symbolizes a sort of heavenly grace. This blue is also seen in the sky surrounding
the figures, perhaps another symbol suggesting that Adam and Eve still have their innocence, for they
are surrounded by a heavenly grace. White is also seen in the painting, both as a part of the angel s
wings and the clouds in the sky. White often symbolizes purity and innocence, yet another symbol that
shows Adam and Eve have not yet been shamed from the garden. Another major color that stands out
more than anything else is red, which is seen in the animals right next to Adam and Eve. This could
possibly represent the presence

The Ancient Egyptian History And Culture
The history of Ancient Egypt is one of the most highly admired and studied cultures of all the past
world civilizations. The fascination of the sphinx and the questioning of the pyramids have typically
led archeologists to devote their time and efforts into unraveling the mysteries and figuring out the
ways of the Egyptian culture. However, some may argue that the alluring aspect of the Ancient
Egyptian history and culture is mummification. Some people bury their dead in the ground so that
their soul can carry on to heaven while their body turns to dust. Others chose to burn the body and
reduce it to ashes that are either kept in memorial or are dispersed. The Egyptians, on the other hand,
believed in a different way of life after death and the burial of the body. They desired to preserve the
remains as a basic element for survival after death, as well as the journey into the afterlife. With such
exotic funerary process, the Egyptians created a view as being a morbid, death obsessed society.
Mummification played a major role in Ancient Egyptian s religious belief of life after death, but the
process of this unique burial and display of the corpse differed depending on the time period the ritual
was performed. EVOLUTION To the Egyptians, the preservation of the body was a fundamental asset
to the continuation of life after death. The process of mummification evolved over many decades,
becoming more of a dominate ritual in their ancient culture. The beginning of

I became what I am today at the age of twelve, on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975.
The novel begins as a frame narrative (introduces the story within a story) as Amir reflects on the past.
It appears that he will do so with an adult understanding of the events.
Winter often symbolizes death, creating an ominous setting to begin the story.

Chapter 1 the author describes the most important climax of the drama, the date also displays a
significant meaning to Amir because it shows how long the struggle has lasted.
Amir metaphorically continues looking into the alley where Assef raped Hassan, which means he was

Death in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening Essay
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening A Stop for Death
Everyone feels burdened by life at some point. Everyone wishes they could just close their eyes and
make all the problems and struggles of life disappear. Some see death as a release from the chains and
ropes with which the trials and tribulations of life bind the human race. Death is a powerful theme in
literature, symbolized in a plethora of ways. In Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Eve Robert Frost uses
subtle imagery, symbolism, rhythm and rhyme to invoke the yearning for death that the weary traveler
of life feels.
When the speaker in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Eve pauses for a moment s rest, he does not do
so on a simple evening, but on the darkest evening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Winter is a time of cold, when forests die and animals hide from the shrieking winds and biting cold.
Winter is a time for survival against the odds. How apt that the speaker is struggling against the lovely,
dark and deep woods to remember that he has miles to go before [he] sleep[s]. The easy wind calls to
him, and the downy flake beckons him to a comfortable sleep. If the speaker had paused on a bright
summer day, the sleep might be just a short rest, but the poem is set on the darkest evening of the year
while the woods fill up with snow, and any rest taken in the lovely, dark and deep woods would result
in the eternal sleep of death (474).
Sleep is another common symbol for death, and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is filled with
the essence of sleep. Every element of the poem works together to create a lullaby effect, calling the
speaker and reader to a lovely, dark and deep sleep (474). The gentle imagery of the downy soft snow
and easy wind, combined with the cadence and meter of the poem creates a lulling, rocking, soothing
effect. The AABB rhyme scheme and the iambic quatrameter create a lullaby feeling, easing the
reader in to a comfortable sleep.
The last two lines act as a slap in the face. Every element works toward death, and the speaker almost
slips into eternal rest. One can see him, putting the

Economic Viability Of The Slave Trade System
How Did Economic Viability of The Slave Trade System in relation to The Productivity of Slave
Agriculture Change over Time? The transatlantic slave trade which took place during the mid
seventeenth century until the late eighteenth century is observed as one of the largest forced
migrations (Lewis, et Al., 2009, 2). The discovery of the America s pursued by European nations led
to the uncovering of significant luxury goods and precious metals such as sugar, coffee, and gold
(Eltis, 2008, 1). The slave trade resulted in African slaves that were trafficked from Africa to the
America s to be used as labor supply to mass produce these goods on plantations set up along the
coast. These luxury products in its primary form were produced at these plantations and were
transported back to Europe to satisfy the high demand for luxury goods (Eltis, 2008, 4). Over the
period where the transatlantic slave trade was active, the relationship between the economic viability
of the slave trade system and the agricultural productivity of slaves offset each other and move with
each other. The research presented has demonstrated that mortality rates of slaves and transportation
costs affected the economic viability to sustain the slave trade which would then affect agricultural
slave productivity on the plantations within the Caribbean. What has been examined throughout the
research findings conveys the idea that in the beginning of the slave trade, high transportation costs
and high mortality

Bitch Better Have My Money
Barbadian singer and songwriter, Rihanna, song titled Bitch Better Have My Money was released in
the year 2015. The popular song had previously landed as number four in Pitchfork s, Best of 2015
list. Just as the title of the music video proposes, the main concept is, Bitch Better Have My Money ; a
concept in which Rihanna is indicating how someone owes her money and needs to pay it forward.
This is not the only notion an individual could get from the song lyrics. The song could be referring to
demanding respect from someone, gaining ethnic dominance, instigation to violence, or even females
being used as objects. Set in a secluded area that includes vehicles driven only by Rihanna herself, a
motel room, the Bitch living room, a gas station just to name a few, Bitch Better Have My Money tells
a sequenced story about how an accountant owes her money and does not pay up his dues when
needed. The strong theme of the song is pay up what you owe or there will be consequences involved.
Music directors, Megaforce and the star Rihanna herself demonstrated several of angles, vibrant
colors, and even slow pans to make the video as popular as it is now.
At the beginning of the video, we first see an unidentified individual sitting in a box. I have used the

The French and Indian War and the American Revolution
At a surface level, historical accounts of The French and Indian War and the American Revolution are
presented as wars between two sides: The British versus the French and the British verus the
Americans, respectively. In each war the aforementioned opposing sides held the most crucial roles in
each battle that these wars lead to. However, in this essay I will argue the crucial role of allies of each
victorious side and how they were incredbily useful to the defeats of the British in the wildnerness in
1755 during Braddock s defeat and in Yorktown, Virginia in 181 durng Cornwallis s defeat.
Discussing the former, I will argue the importance of the Native American s as allies to France and
with the latter, the significance of the French as allies to the Americans. The aim of this essay is not to
argue that without their allies, the French and the Americans would not have won the battles but that
because they did have these allies, their victories occured faster, easier and with less conflict that if
they had fought without allies. Braddock s defeat in 1755 occured during the French and Indian War
which involved British and French armies battling for land possession in North America. The
commander of British forces in America, General Edward Braddock, was to lead 2,200 British troops
to capture Fort Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Heavily outnumbered by British troops, the
French army were not in a position to defend Fort Duquense without help, nor would they have even

Some symptoms include Jim s lack of enthusiasm or interest in activities that previously brought him
satisfaction, such as Jim s excellence in school, as he eventually became uninterested in attending his
college classes. Instead he would watch TV all day and not come out of his room. He believed he had
special powers and that he could control the behavior of the characters on TV with his mind. As the
book describes, this no longer was a feeling but Jim seriously concluded that he had underwent some
type of transformation that gave him the ability to control peoples behaviors and feelings. This even
caused him to stare at people in public to provoke such reactions. He also concluded that he was God
like and contained a life force in his breathing, which only caused him to breath on people, because he
had heard God s angels tell him that he was now the Messiah. Jim also became paranoid that others
were constantly talking about his powers and trying to take them, which caused him anxiety, and led
to him leaving the house less and less. He also smoked marijuana in large quantities because it reduces
oxygen in the breath and that reduces its effect. When his mother asked how he was, Jim could only

anyone, and when he did, it was only with his family. He did not stick to his prescribed medication,
and thus his hallucinations anxiety, and confusion only increased. These

The Tokugawa period also called the Edo Period is derived from the name of the ruling family in the

on for almost two hundred and fifty years. This was a very incredible achievement taking into account
this was an era that was full of upsetting ordeals. The Sengoku Jidai or what is known as the age of a
nation at war was the Belligerent states era of Japan where there were many rival daimyos that had

During the tenure of Tokugawa leyasu, the government changed from a devolved feudal government
to a military government that was in the form of bakufu. In this form of government there was the
maintenance of a controlled environment among the daimyos since their rivalry was a major factor to
the chaos that took place in the recently concluded Warring States Period. The main polices that were
used in the Tokugawa system of governance were influencing the daimoyo, taking control over the
imperial court, managing the foreign relationships, and sacralizing the legacy of Tokugawa. From the

The Dogmas Of Mary-Vanessa Perez
The Dogmas of Mary Vanessa Perez
The first dogma is the Divine Motherhood. This dogma is that Mary is the Mother of God. We believe
this because she gave birth to Jesus, who is both 100% human and 100% divine. We got this belief
from the Council of Ephesus and the Council of Chalcedon. They explained that since Mary gave birth
to Christ, the son of God, then Mary gave birth to God.
The second dogma is the Perpetual Virginity. This dogma is that Mary was a virgin when she was
conceived and gave birth. We believe this because we know that Mary was conceived by the power of
the Holy Spirit only. We got this belief from the Church. They explained that Mary was a virgin when
she gave birth.

It s Time to Abolish The Penny! Essay
Between 2001 and 2006, there has been an increase of .6 cents for the reproduction of the penny. This
increase displays economic problems that may lead to fatal ones. The penny is composed of 2%
copper and 98% zinc. These elements are exponentially in demand causing the price of these materials
to skyrocket. Many Americans think the penny is putting our country in jeopardy with financial losses.
This meaningless coin is losing money for the mint, and should be abolished. The penny costs 1.4
cents to manufacture each time at the mint. This is causing the mint to lose money for the treasury.

This averages to about 1210 pennies per person in the United States. These numbers are just simply
preposterous. A majority of these Lincolns have probably been trashed, thrown on the ground or
located in unknown areas of homes and apartments. The penny is practically worthless to many people
in our country. In a Gallup Poll of 1,002 adults conducted from June 11 of this year displayed
shocking results. Nearly 75% of those adults would stop and pick a penny that is present on the
ground. About 40% of men and 35% of women would walk passed a penny that is on any type of

drawers. Some Americans redeem their cents at banks or coin counting machines, but 2 percent
admitted they toss them into the trash. They consider the penny a nuisance to many fellow Americans.
This sentiment has been growing through recent years. The penny is basically obsolete and should be

This paper examines how four sources, three authoritative and one popular, compare to each other. In
this essay I will discuss the difference between authoritative and popular sources. I will explain each
sources characteristics and why I think the source is credible. I will also analyze the sources to see
what the purpose was and who the intended audience was. I will tell you where you can access
authoritative or popular sources as well. Many students do not know where to find a credible source,

The Dynasty Of Chinese History Essay
The Six Dynasty period in Chinese historiography is often classified with moments of conflict, revolt,
strife, famine, disunity, and not innovation. Historians and academics categorize the period as a
placeholder between the more significant Han China 206 BCE to 220 CE and the Tang dynasty 618 to
907 CE. Understandably, Han China s military, infrastructure, and civil capabilities were rivalled only
by that of the Roman Empire, and even then, the Han dynasties administrative capabilities were
rivalled by none. The Tang period is widely considered to be the high point of Chinese culture and
civilization, where cosmopolitan China emerged with force vastly shaping China for centuries to
come. The significance of the Han and Tang dynasties is not in question, it is the lack of importance
that historians confer on the Six Dynasties period. Admittedly the Six Dynasty period in Chinese
history can be categorized as a warring period, in which China did not develop unilaterally, but
separately along fractured lines (split both north south, and east west). Much like the European
medieval period, there are few accessible sources from early medieval china, and because of this,
China s six dynasty period is brushed over as a period of little advancement and innovation. The Dark
Ages in Europe use to receive the same scholarly interpretation as a period of stagnation.
Agreeably a topic of righting historical wrongs is too large for too few pages, as such, the scope of this

Impact of Global Warming on Coastal Wetlands
Professor s comment: Jane wrote this research paper for my Advanced Composition course. The
assignment asks the students to read and understand six to ten articles within a research area of their
choice, then synthesize the information so that a reader can quickly understand the present state of
research in that area. Jane chose to look at how increased flooding and salinity might affect coastal
wetland soils and species, and she organized the material clearly and effectively. What I liked
particularly about this review was that it moved logically from the effects of flooding and salinity on
wetland soils to the effects on the plants growing there to the overall effects on the wetland, both ...

Additionally, Ehhas been shown to decrease even further when soils are flooded with increased
salinity levels (Baldwin and Mendelssohn, 1998; Flynn et al., 1995). Under these conditions, the soil
medium becomes highly reducing and can affect wetland vegetation in two ways. First, and probably
most significant, is the reduction of sulfate (present in seawater) to hydrogen sulfide, a known
phytotoxin that has been shown to reduce wetland vegetation growth and/or survival at higher
concentrations (Flynn et al., 1995). Secondly, highly reducing conditions can interfere with a plant s
ability to uptake nitrogen by altering its form and availability in the soil (Webb et al., 1995).
Other problems created by high salinity soil conditions include the change in water potential necessary
for the plant to overcome the elevated salt concentration in the soil, and the possibility of toxicity due
to uptake of Na+ and Cl ions (Flynn et al., 1995).
Physiological Responses of Wetland Plants due to Increased Flooding and Salinity
Although tolerance to increased flooding and salinity conditions varies somewhat by species, wetland
species that survive these heightened conditions demonstrate either some or all of the following
characteristics: lowered photosynthetic activity,

Taking On Multiple Perspectives For An American Adult
The idea of taking on multiple perspectives can be applied to many scenarios, from making decisions
as the president of a nation to running a day care. One of the most accessible perspectives for an
American adult is the small business. By engaging in the perspective of other people at a business you
either work at or are a customer at, you gain a certain understanding that makes you more relaxed and
more pleasant. For example we can take an almost universal experience in the developed world,
ordering food at a fast food restaurant.
Let s say there is a line of customers during the lunch rush at your average fast food restaurant. The
line is taking extraordinarily long because there is only one person running the register and one person

Next in line is person B. Person B realizes that everyone in line is there for food and must be just as
hungry as they are. He realizes that there are only two employees and that they are working very hard
to serve as many people as they are, perhaps they have been in that situation. Person B has a greater
understanding of the perspective of those around him and in turn is much calmer than person A.
This example of taking on multiple perspectives shares in Zhuangzi s philosophy but is different from
his examples. The closest example would be the story of the butcher. A good butcher changes his
chopper every year because he chips it. And average butcher changes it every month because he
breaks it (Zhuangzi, ch.3). This is demonstrating two people, doing essentially the same thing, but the
way they do it makes their life more or less difficult. As the butchers gain a greater understanding of
the oxen they become more proficient.
When I first began cutting up oxen, I did not see anything but oxen. Three years later, I couldn t see
the whole ox. And now, I encounter them with spirit and don t look with my eye ... That s why after
nineteen years the blade of my chopper is still as though fresh from the grindstone. (Zhuangzi, Ch.3)
In the restaurant example person B is a better customer than person A. In something as simple as being
a customer it is safe to say that becoming irrationally upset would be analogous to

Iago s Jealousy In Othello, The Moor Of Venice
Othello is one of William Shakespeare s most famous dramas. Othello is called a tragedy and has been
a popular play throughout the history of literature and drama. The non shortened original title of this
play is The Tragedy of Othello, The Moor of Venice. There are several key points of analysis that can
be found when reading Othello. These include specific themes, irony, symbolism, and tone. Each of
these devices add to the overall meanings in a specific way, Shakespeare placed them within the play
for the reader to understand. The prominent theme in Othello is jealousy. It s a theme that is present
throughout the entire play. Iago, who the main villain of the play, is jealous of Othello and the power
he has. Iago s jealousy is what leads to the conflict later into the play. In the beginning, Iago expresses
his hate for Othello, One Micheal Cassio, a Florentine....As masterly as he: mere prattle, without
practice in all his soldiership. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Shakespeare s time, this was not widely viewed as acceptable and this is why it causes conflict in
the play. Even though Othello has a high position of power and is highly respected, his race is always
brought into the picture and never seems to be forgotten. The tone of Othello is mostly bitter. This is
mainly due to Iago s conflict throughout. He influences the other characters, especially Othello, and
causes them to become bitter as well. Each character is emotionally affected by Iago and his ability to
get inside each individual mind. For example, Othello is overcome with emotions from his heartbreak
when finding out that Desdemona has been seeing Cassio that he kills Desdemona and later himself.
He also stabs Iago when he finds out all of the lies that he has told. The irrational emotions and actions
that follow make the ton depressing as

Welcome To The Monkey House Analysis
Kurt Vonnegut wrote during the postmodern literary period which breaks free from many ideas created
in the modern period and describes the literature that follows World War two. This period is
characterised with the technology becoming part of life, paradox, and fragmentation. Authors also hold
true the idea that all stories have already been told and works of this era are new methods of telling
them.(Klages np) These techniques are used throughout the short stories of Vonnegut s Welcome to the

his storytelling. Vonnegut ties almost all of his short stories to an ending that is not expected nor

Criticism of Reality Television
The days of traditional television shows, movies and plays are slowly coming to an end. Many people
have replaced scripted shows with favorite actors with reality television. Reality television has
introduced viewers to a cast of regular people they can relate to, and some of whom they are fond of
or mimic in their day to day life basis. Reality television has however been on the receiving end of
endless criticism. Critics maintain that it has overwhelmingly turned young girls into divas and young
men into bodybuilders . Despite this rapid transition in media that has led many to an inclination
toprefer reality television rather than the traditional television shows, movies and plays, which was the
case many years back, critics feel that the social, moral fabric is eroding at an extremely high rate .
Certainly, this criticism aid in shaping reality television as we shall see in this study .
While network officials and all the brains behind any reality television broadcast that benefit
tremendously from the high ratings of reality television are filled with praise, the industry continues to
face overwhelming criticism (Rose). The strongest of them being talented movie or tv show actors and
scriptwriters who feel that popularity has shifted from talent based shows to reality television. Many
of these actors indeed feel that the many years they have dedicated to the

The Importance Of Abstract Alphabet
Picture books can be very influential for younger readers as well as many others. Authors shapes,
colors, and context can create different types of emotions and feelings to be presented. These types of
books appeal to the younger reader because of these types of illustrations can cause the words of the
book come to life. This can be said for the book titled Abstract Alphabet. This book was written and
illustrated by former Caldecott Honor recipient Stephen T. Johnson. It is the perfect picture book for
teaching children the alphabet as well as providing unique and colorful pictures to represent them.
Each picture also provides a unique characteristic that can be appealing for the older reader and the

importance in pictures books are clearly the type of illustrations. Effective illustrations set the tone for
the type of book that it will be. To not get misunderstood, the text is essential as well. However when
it comes to young readers, the pictures are what are going to the most impactful. In Abstract Alphabet,

Electronic Commerce And E Commerce
Electronic Commerce
Electronic Commerce Defined Salvatore (2013) defines electronic commerce or e commerce stating, E
commerce refers to the production, advertising, sale, and distribution of products and services from
business to business and from business to consumer through the internet (p. 150). These activities can
take place in many environments between businesses and consumers. E commerce has changed the
way goods and services are exchanged and have given light to businesses and consumers to exist on a
global scale without an established brand. With e commerce defined, let us look at its origin.
E Commerce Origin
E commerce has origins that trace back to the mid 1900s. In these times very few organizations had

Why Are There So Many Sufferings In The Bible
The first part is a biblical view about person s whole life. Everything in life should come under the
authority of Scripture. Proverbs mentions the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Nowadays,
there are so many sufferings in people s life. People would say reasons by chemical imbalance, brain s

Snow Blindness And Stretching Research Paper
Some people believe that sunglasses are only necessary in the summer because of its intense and hot
sunlight. They underestimate the ultraviolet and glare exposure of winter because the sunlight is
weaker and the days are shorter. However, sunglasses are just as important, if not more important in
the winter for a number of reasons. Here are four of them:
The Sun Sits Lower in the Sky
The summer sun, while intense, shines at you from high overhead. This means its ultraviolet light is
directly hitting the top of your head (or hat) rather than going straight into your eyes. On the other
hand, the lower position of the winter sun angles more of the light directly at your eyes. When
someone blinds you with a flashlight, they point it at you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is in contrast to sand beaches, which only reflect between 10 to 25%. If you live in the snow belt
states, the ground can be covered with snow for months at a time. When you walk outside or drive
during the day, your eyes are getting more UV exposure than you would in the summer.
If you re an outdoors person, your exposure is even more acute. In fact, if you spend hours hiking,
skiing, or snowshoeing on sunlit snow, you run the risk of getting snow blindness. Snow blindness can
damage your eyes for up to a week. The surface of the eyes is literally sunburned. This danger is
worse at higher altitudes, not only for skiers and mountain climbers, but for residents of mountainous
states such as Colorado.
Road Glare Is More Intense
The low position of the sun causes it to shine directly into the eyes. This glare worsens when the
pavement is wet from snow melted by road salt. Roof visors do little to block this glare because it s
coming up from the pavement. Nike prescription sunglasses with polarized lenses are recommended

Synchronous learning
Learning and teaching process occurs at the same time, the trainer and learners interact with each
other and share the ideas, details, and solutions during the session while they are physically separated
from place shift . There are many examples of synchronous learning such as virtual classroom,
audio/video conferencing, online lectures, listening to a live radio broadcast, and two way live satellite
broadcast .( Yakaraju G ,2014)
Desynchronous learning

Interpersonal Relationship With My Family
Practical Example of Theory My family happens to be deeply religious, conservative and often closed
minded about certain aspects of life. In other words, everything that they tend to support and believe
in as a family unit, tends to be something I can not personally agree with. As anyone can imagine, this
has deeply affected my interpersonal relationship with my family in a negative impact. As an adult, I
have come to my own conclusions about my personal beliefs about life and what those entail for
myself. These beliefs are usually the exact opposite of what I grew up with, much to the
disappointment of my family which has created a deep divide between us. This has probably affected
my relationship with my father the most, as he has always been the most outspoken about his
disappointment.
For my father this has been rather difficult to accept because to him, I have violated my family s
beliefs by turning my back on religion and wanting no part of it in my personal life. It is simply
something he can not comprehend, to him it means turning my back on my family and everything I
have known. Years ago when I was a teenager, I confided in him that I wanted nothing to do with the
church anymore and he chalked it up to teenage youth. Nowadays, my interpersonal relationship with
my father has been strained because he has finally understood that I had actually been serious all
along. In fact, when it was brought up again when I was an adult and when I had given him the same

Corrie Ten Boom From The Hiding Place And Anne Frank
Corrie Ten Boom from The Hiding Place and Anne Frank From Anne Frank s Diary were two of the of
the many people that were living during the Holocaust period. The Holocaust which took place in the
late 1930 s and throughout the 1940 s Adolf Hitler an anti Jewish man came to power in Germany.
During this Germany was in a great depression due to their loss of World War One. Hitler promised
restoration and power and he was easily accepted. Once Adolf was in power he began to invade
countries around them like Poland and Holland. Hitler began to send Jews away to camps. He then
began to rampage around the countries capturing the Jews and sending them to the camps where we
later found out how they brutally killed the Jews. Before some of the Jews were captured, they went
into hiding. That s where our two stories came from our first is The Hiding Place and the other is The
Annex. Although these are not the only stories about Jews hiding from the Nazis these are some of the
most extreme. While comparing Corrie and Anne their personality, experience, and final outcomes we
see that there are similarities and difference. Anne and Corrie had many different and similar
personality. Anna had a very young, and spunky personality. She loved to talk and move around. Peter
said, All right, Mrs. Quack Quack. Indicating that she talks way too much. I only want some fun . . .
someone to laugh and clown with . . . After you ve sat still all day and hardly moved, you ve got to

Pascal s The Wager, By Simon Blackburn s Vs. An Assessment
In this philosophical paper I will be referencing the works of Blaise Pascal s, The Wager , Simon
Blackburn s Pascal s Wager , and Linda Zagzebski s Pascal s Wager: An Assessment . I will be
comparing Pascal s beliefs with the beliefs of Blackburn and Zagzebski as they discuss different ways
to believe in God and if believing in God is a gamble on ones after life, or simply just religious
preference. I will discuss the works of these three philosophers and explain how their works may
correlate and differ. The question presented in Pascal s work is still relevant, being over 350 years old,
and still left unsolved. Even though times are much different and technology is much more advanced
than when Pascal presented this work in the mid 1600 s.
Blaise Pascal (1623 1662), French mathematician, physicist, and philosopher, argued that to believe in
God, or not to believe in God is a gamble on ones after life. Pascal believed that we, as human beings
on planet Earth are wagering our eternity, after we die, by what we believe during our current, existing
life. Pascal implies there is a heaven and hell. He explains that if one believes in God and God exists
they are granted eternity in heaven and much is gained. However, if God does not exist and one
believes in God, nothing is lost. One would be sent to the same place whether they believed in a God,
or not. Pascal explains that if one does not believe in God and God does exist that person is doomed

  • 2. Reflection On Saint Augustine s Confessions Throughout this class, I have grown so much from where I was at the beginning of the year. I think that because the class was a collective effort rather than an individual one, it was more motivation for me to participate properly because people other than myself were relying on me. Due to the fact that we had written questions and homework for every reading as well as had to use a great deal of textual evidence throughout the discussions, I was constantly looking to refer back to the text, and make sure that my argument fit in with the discussion. Therefore, I got the most out of outcome four, using the discussion and the process of writing to enhance my intellectual discovery. Specifically, a reading that I feel like I used this outcome the most for was Saint Augustine s Confessions. Once I got through the initial confusion, through the discussion and especially the second essay helped me develop his ideas of rightly ordered love . That, then became what I primarily based my exploration of the text off of. It was important to use Written and Oral Communication for this reading to see how much of an impact all the situations had on Saint Augustine. Therefore, being engaged in the reading, writing and asking the right questions, and using the discussion to further my understanding of the text was a strong lesson I learned from Seminar 2. In regards to the Critical Thinking learning outcome, I found that making the application and evaluation questions helped me most with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was a period of Athenian political hegemony, economic growth and cultural flourishing formerly known as the Golden Age of Athens or The Age of Pericles. The period began in 480 BC when an Athenian led coalition of city states, known as the Delian League, defeated the Persians at Salamis. As the fifth century wore on, what started as an alliance of independent city states gradually became an Athenian empire. Eventually, Athens abandoned the pretense of parity among its allies and relocated the Delian League treasury from Delos to Athens, where it funded the building of the AthenianAcropolis. Institutions The magistrates The magistrates were people who occupied a public post and formed the administration of the Athenian state. They were submitted to rigorous public control. The magistrates were chosen by lot, using fava beans. Black and white beans were put in a box and depending on which color the person drew out they obtained the post or not. This was a way of eliminating the personal influence of rich people and possible intrigues and use of favors. There were only two categories of posts not chosen by lot, but by election in the Popular Assembly. These were strategos, or general, and magistrate of finance. It was generally supposed that significant qualities were needed to exercise each of those two offices. A magistrate s post did not last more than a year, including that of the strategoi and in this sense the continued selection of Pericles year after year was an exception. At the end of every year, a magistrate would have to give an account of his administration and use of public finances. The most honored posts were the ancient archontes, or archons in English. How Steve Jobs Made The Industrial Revolution Student s Name Professor s Name Date Class Steve Jobs The world has always been the people who made the revolution in a particular field of activity. Christopher Columbus, Nikola Tesla, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and many others have made the world as it is now. This presentation describes another inventor, Steve Jobs, whose discoveries have caused a revolution in the IT field. Steven Paul Jobs was born in San Francisco, February 24, 1955. His biological parents who were not married, adopted him from a family of civil servants from the South Bay area of San Francisco, Paul and Clara Jobs. In high school, Steve Jobs decided to go to Reed College in Oregon. However, Steve studied in college just one semester, then dropped. • 11. Analysis Of The Garden Of Eden By Francesco Solimena The painting chosen to examine is The Garden of Eden by Francesco Solimena. This painting was created between 1725 30. The medium of the painting is oil on canvas. The scale, although not specified, appears to be about a couple feet high and a couple feet long. The general subject matter is Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. It seems to be before they have discovered the forbidden fruit. The figures seem to be embracing everything the garden has to offer, they seem content and comfortable in their own skin. In most paintings, Adam and Eve are covered up after eating the forbidden fruit, for they are shamed. The fact that they are shown in the nude most likely suggests that they still have their innocence. An important thing to note about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Immediately, my eyes are drawn to Adam and Eve, for they are the largest figures in the painting. All of the characters are stylized to the tune of what the artist wants, for his figures, including the animals, are shown as very muscular, not very naturalistic. This is similar to Michelangelo s characters, he believed that the mans body is the pinnacle of god s creation, using the male body as the body of all of his characters, men and women included. These figures are also similar to the Greeks, who were very focused on the human body. The color used in this painting is not too obvious, it seems like a pretty dark colored painting when first looking at it. After further examination, I started to notice more colors that are throughout the piece. There is blue, which is part of the angel s garment. In religious paintings, blue often symbolizes a sort of heavenly grace. This blue is also seen in the sky surrounding the figures, perhaps another symbol suggesting that Adam and Eve still have their innocence, for they are surrounded by a heavenly grace. White is also seen in the painting, both as a part of the angel s wings and the clouds in the sky. White often symbolizes purity and innocence, yet another symbol that shows Adam and Eve have not yet been shamed from the garden. Another major color that stands out more than anything else is red, which is seen in the animals right next to Adam and Eve. This could possibly represent the presence ... • 12. The Ancient Egyptian History And Culture The history of Ancient Egypt is one of the most highly admired and studied cultures of all the past world civilizations. The fascination of the sphinx and the questioning of the pyramids have typically led archeologists to devote their time and efforts into unraveling the mysteries and figuring out the ways of the Egyptian culture. However, some may argue that the alluring aspect of the Ancient Egyptian history and culture is mummification. Some people bury their dead in the ground so that their soul can carry on to heaven while their body turns to dust. Others chose to burn the body and reduce it to ashes that are either kept in memorial or are dispersed. The Egyptians, on the other hand, believed in a different way of life after death and the burial of the body. They desired to preserve the remains as a basic element for survival after death, as well as the journey into the afterlife. With such exotic funerary process, the Egyptians created a view as being a morbid, death obsessed society. Mummification played a major role in Ancient Egyptian s religious belief of life after death, but the process of this unique burial and display of the corpse differed depending on the time period the ritual was performed. EVOLUTION To the Egyptians, the preservation of the body was a fundamental asset to the continuation of life after death. The process of mummification evolved over many decades, becoming more of a dominate ritual in their ancient culture. The beginning of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everyone wishes they could just close their eyes and make all the problems and struggles of life disappear. Some see death as a release from the chains and ropes with which the trials and tribulations of life bind the human race. Death is a powerful theme in literature, symbolized in a plethora of ways. In Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Eve Robert Frost uses subtle imagery, symbolism, rhythm and rhyme to invoke the yearning for death that the weary traveler of life feels. The easy wind calls to him, and the downy flake beckons him to a comfortable sleep. If the speaker had paused on a bright summer day, the sleep might be just a short rest, but the poem is set on the darkest evening of the year while the woods fill up with snow, and any rest taken in the lovely, dark and deep woods would result in the eternal sleep of death (474). Sleep is another common symbol for death, and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is filled with the essence of sleep. Every element of the poem works together to create a lullaby effect, calling the speaker and reader to a lovely, dark and deep sleep (474). The gentle imagery of the downy soft snow and easy wind, combined with the cadence and meter of the poem creates a lulling, rocking, soothing effect. The AABB rhyme scheme and the iambic quatrameter create a lullaby feeling, easing the reader in to a comfortable sleep. The last two lines act as a slap in the face. • 18. Economic Viability Of The Slave Trade System How Did Economic Viability of The Slave Trade System in relation to The Productivity of Slave Agriculture Change over Time? The transatlantic slave trade which took place during the mid seventeenth century until the late eighteenth century is observed as one of the largest forced migrations (Lewis, et Al., 2009, 2). The discovery of the America s pursued by European nations led to the uncovering of significant luxury goods and precious metals such as sugar, coffee, and gold (Eltis, 2008, 1). The slave trade resulted in African slaves that were trafficked from Africa to the America s to be used as labor supply to mass produce these goods on plantations set up along the coast. These luxury products in its primary form were produced at these plantations and were transported back to Europe to satisfy the high demand for luxury goods (Eltis, 2008, 4). Over the period where the transatlantic slave trade was active, the relationship between the economic viability of the slave trade system and the agricultural productivity of slaves offset each other and move with each other. The research presented has demonstrated that mortality rates of slaves and transportation costs affected the economic viability to sustain the slave trade which would then affect agricultural slave productivity on the plantations within the Caribbean. What has been examined throughout the research findings conveys the idea that in the beginning of the slave trade, high transportation costs and high mortality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The French and Indian War and the American Revolution At a surface level, historical accounts of The French and Indian War and the American Revolution are presented as wars between two sides: The British versus the French and the British verus the Americans, respectively. In each war the aforementioned opposing sides held the most crucial roles in each battle that these wars lead to. However, in this essay I will argue the crucial role of allies of each victorious side and how they were incredbily useful to the defeats of the British in the wildnerness in 1755 during Braddock s defeat and in Yorktown, Virginia in 181 durng Cornwallis s defeat. Discussing the former, I will argue the importance of the Native American s as allies to France and with the latter, the significance of the French as allies to the Americans. The aim of this essay is not to argue that without their allies, the French and the Americans would not have won the battles but that because they did have these allies, their victories occured faster, easier and with less conflict that if they had fought without allies. Braddock s defeat in 1755 occured during the French and Indian War which involved British and French armies battling for land possession in North America. The commander of British forces in America, General Edward Braddock, was to lead 2,200 British troops to capture Fort Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. • 30. The Dynasty Of Chinese History Essay The Six Dynasty period in Chinese historiography is often classified with moments of conflict, revolt, strife, famine, disunity, and not innovation. Historians and academics categorize the period as a placeholder between the more significant Han China 206 BCE to 220 CE and the Tang dynasty 618 to 907 CE. Understandably, Han China s military, infrastructure, and civil capabilities were rivalled only by that of the Roman Empire, and even then, the Han dynasties administrative capabilities were rivalled by none. The Tang period is widely considered to be the high point of Chinese culture and civilization, where cosmopolitan China emerged with force vastly shaping China for centuries to come. The significance of the Han and Tang dynasties is not in question, it is the lack of importance that historians confer on the Six Dynasties period. Admittedly the Six Dynasty period in Chinese history can be categorized as a warring period, in which China did not develop unilaterally, but separately along fractured lines (split both north south, and east west). Much like the European medieval period, there are few accessible sources from early medieval china, and because of this, China s six dynasty period is brushed over as a period of little advancement and innovation. Additionally, Ehhas been shown to decrease even further when soils are flooded with increased salinity levels (Baldwin and Mendelssohn, 1998; Flynn et al., 1995). Under these conditions, the soil medium becomes highly reducing and can affect wetland vegetation in two ways. First, and probably most significant, is the reduction of sulfate (present in seawater) to hydrogen sulfide, a known phytotoxin that has been shown to reduce wetland vegetation growth and/or survival at higher concentrations (Flynn et al., 1995). Secondly, highly reducing conditions can interfere with a plant s ability to uptake nitrogen by altering its form and availability in the soil (Webb et al., 1995). Other problems created by high salinity soil conditions include the change in water potential necessary for the plant to overcome the elevated salt concentration in the soil, and the possibility of toxicity due to uptake of Na+ and Cl ions (Flynn et al., 1995). One of the most accessible perspectives for an American adult is the small business. By engaging in the perspective of other people at a business you either work at or are a customer at, you gain a certain understanding that makes you more relaxed and more pleasant. For example we can take an almost universal experience in the developed world, ordering food at a fast food restaurant. Let s say there is a line of customers during the lunch rush at your average fast food restaurant. The line is taking extraordinarily long because there is only one person running the register and one person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next in line is person B. Person B realizes that everyone in line is there for food and must be just as hungry as they are. He realizes that there are only two employees and that they are working very hard to serve as many people as they are, perhaps they have been in that situation. Person B has a greater understanding of the perspective of those around him and in turn is much calmer than person A. This example of taking on multiple perspectives shares in Zhuangzi s philosophy but is different from his examples. The closest example would be the story of the butcher. A good butcher changes his chopper every year because he chips it. And average butcher changes it every month because he breaks it (Zhuangzi, ch.3). This is demonstrating two people, doing essentially the same thing, but the way they do it makes their life more or less difficult. As the butchers gain a greater understanding of the oxen they become more proficient. When I first began cutting up oxen, I did not see anything but oxen. Three years later, I couldn t see the whole ox. And now, I encounter them with spirit and don t look with my eye ... That s why after nineteen years the blade of my chopper is still as though fresh from the grindstone. (Zhuangzi, Ch.3) In the restaurant example person B is a better customer than person A. In something as simple as being a customer it is safe to say that becoming irrationally upset would be analogous to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s a theme that is present throughout the entire play. Iago, who the main villain of the play, is jealous of Othello and the power he has. Even though Othello has a high position of power and is highly respected, his race is always brought into the picture and never seems to be forgotten. The tone of Othello is mostly bitter. This is mainly due to Iago s conflict throughout. He influences the other characters, especially Othello, and causes them to become bitter as well. Each character is emotionally affected by Iago and his ability to get inside each individual mind. For example, Othello is overcome with emotions from his heartbreak when finding out that Desdemona has been seeing Cassio that he kills Desdemona and later himself. He also stabs Iago when he finds out all of the lies that he has told. The irrational emotions and actions that follow make the ton depressing as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Welcome To The Monkey House Analysis Kurt Vonnegut wrote during the postmodern literary period which breaks free from many ideas created in the modern period and describes the literature that follows World War two. This period is characterised with the technology becoming part of life, paradox, and fragmentation. Authors also hold true the idea that all stories have already been told and works of this era are new methods of telling them.(Klages np) These techniques are used throughout the short stories of Vonnegut s Welcome to the Monkey House and influence can be seen due to his past in the military which may be seen through his storytelling. Criticism Of Reality Television Connor Daily Stacy Affleck Comp110.bo01 09/25/17 Comp110.bo1 Criticism of Reality Television The days of traditional television shows, movies and plays are slowly coming to an end. Many people have replaced scripted shows with favorite actors with reality television. Reality television has introduced viewers to a cast of regular people they can relate to, and some of whom they are fond of or mimic in their day to day life basis. Reality television has however been on the receiving end of endless criticism. Critics maintain that it has overwhelmingly turned young girls into divas and young men into bodybuilders . Despite this rapid transition in media that has led many to an inclination toprefer reality television rather than the traditional television shows, movies and plays, which was the case many years back, critics feel that the social, moral fabric is eroding at an extremely high rate . However, sunglasses are just as important, if not more important in the winter for a number of reasons. Here are four of them: The Sun Sits Lower in the Sky The summer sun, while intense, shines at you from high overhead. In other words, everything that they tend to support and believe in as a family unit, tends to be something I can not personally agree with. As anyone can imagine, this has deeply affected my interpersonal relationship with my family in a negative impact. As an adult, I have come to my own conclusions about my personal beliefs about life and what those entail for myself. These beliefs are usually the exact opposite of what I grew up with, much to the disappointment of my family which has created a deep divide between us. This has probably affected my relationship with my father the most, as he has always been the most outspoken about his disappointment. For my father this has been rather difficult to accept because to him, I have violated my family s beliefs by turning my back on religion and wanting no part of it in my personal life. It is simply something he can not comprehend, to him it means turning my back on my family and everything I have known. Years ago when I was a teenager, I confided in him that I wanted nothing to do with the church anymore and he chalked it up to teenage youth. An Assessment In this philosophical paper I will be referencing the works of Blaise Pascal s, The Wager , Simon Blackburn s Pascal s Wager , and Linda Zagzebski s Pascal s Wager: An Assessment . I will be comparing Pascal s beliefs with the beliefs of Blackburn and Zagzebski as they discuss different ways to believe in God and if believing in God is a gamble on ones after life, or simply just religious preference. I will discuss the works of these three philosophers and explain how their works may correlate and differ. The question presented in Pascal s work is still relevant, being over 350 years old, and still left unsolved. Even though times are much different and technology is much more advanced than when Pascal presented this work in the mid 1600 s. Blaise Pascal (1623 1662), French mathematician, physicist, and philosopher, argued that to believe in God, or not to believe in God is a gamble on ones after life. Pascal believed that we, as human beings on planet Earth are wagering our eternity, after we die, by what we believe during our current, existing life. Pascal implies there is a heaven and hell. He explains that if one believes in God and God exists they are granted eternity in heaven and much is gained. However, if God does not exist and one believes in God, nothing is lost. One would be sent to the same place whether they believed in a God, or not. Pascal explains that if one does not believe in God and God does exist that person is doomed for all of ...
