Disney Corporttion´s Negative Influence in Children via...
What started out as cartoon shows such as Mickey Mouse has now changed into a profit driven
corporation. With TV shows, movies, clothing lines, toys, CDs, books, and theme parks, Disney is
creating billions in revenue. However, the profits are at the cost of the youth. One way the youth are
being harmed is children are absorbed in watching television shows that Disney plays daily. The
amount of time spent watching television has increased in the years, while the amount of time spent
playing games outside has decreased. Because of this, health issues in children have risen, especially
in the United States. Also, children begin to idolize the child actors from the shows on Disney such as
Miley Cyrus in Hannah Montana . Although some actresses are good role models, most usually are
not. Child actors are more likely to develop drug addictions, alcohol addictions, and eating disorders
than an average teenager. Not only are the child actors harmed from being put into a crazy lifestyle,
the children who idolize these actors are harmed as well. Therefore, Disney s influence on the youth is
harmful and should be limited. Obesity and other health issues are become a problem for the youth in
America. While poor diets contribute greatly to the problem, there are other factors as well, for
instance, lack of exercise or physical activity. With numerous television shows for children of all ages,
more time is spent inside, watching these shows than outside running around playing tag or

Decline And Decline Of The Early Church Attendance
The problem under examination is the decline in church attendance in America, and the impact of that
decline on our society. The purpose of the research was to ascertain the factors that contribute to the
decline in church attendance. The research methodology that was used was the qualitative method.
Empirical data from the scholarly research was closely examined and analyzed to determine the five
main reasons for this decline. They are as follows: 1) Secularization of Society 2) Inability of the
Organization to Adapt to ever changing times 3) Failure to retain youth beyond Post High School
years 4) Disenfranchised members 5) Lack of Zeal. The church must, therefore, make the effort to
give time and attention to these factors in order to reverse this negative trend. In conclusion, these are
the five things churches need to do to sustain and improve the growth of their congregations. First,
develop a strategies by each particular set of environmental factors internally as well as externally.
Second, resist the temptation to use secularization as a stumbling block, but utilize to formulate
innovative methods of doing business instead of plodding along with business as usual. Third, instill
faith that will last within the youth so that even if they stray if but a moment the will be wired in such
a manner that they will return to their core set of values. Values that have been instilled in them
instead of another youth entertainment exercise. Fourth, recruit leadership

Five Steps In The Departure Of The Hero s Quest
There are five steps in the Departure of the Hero s Quest. The first step of the Departure is The Call to
Adventure. This is the point in the character s life when he realizes he is going to have to go on the
Hero Quest. Beowulf experienced The Call to Adventure when he realized what Grendel was doing to
Heorot, and he felt obligated to help King Hrothgar because he is his father s friend. The second step
of the Departure is the Refusal of the Call. The Refusal of the Call is when the hero first refuses the
call because of fear, insecurity, etc. This step is not included in Beowulf. I think the author chose to
omit this step because he wanted Beowulf to seem as heroic as possible, without refusing the quest.
The third step of the Departure is the Supernatural Aid. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This step was not included in Beowulf. I think the author chose to omit this step because he wanted to
portray Beowulf as a courageous man that doesn t need supernatural help to complete the quest. The
Crossing of the First Threshold is the fourth step of the Departure. This is the part where the hero
crosses into the field of the quest, where he s venturing into an unknown kingdom. This doesn t occur
much in the first part of Beowulf s quest with the fight with Grendel. However, it occurs when
Beowulf decides to find Grendel s mother and goes into the marshes where she lives. The fifth step of
the Departure is The Belly of the Whale. This is when the hero s known world and self is separated.
This occurs in Beowulf when Beowulf decides to fight the dragon. He knew he had to fight the dragon
to keep his people safe, but he had a feeling that this would be the last battle he fought. Beowulf still
decided to fight the dragon, even though it could have been his last day

The Mental Destruction of Blanche Dubois Essay
Tennessee William s play A Street Car Named Desire offers a glimpse into the harsh reality faced by
single southern woman in the 1940s. The 1940s was a time when females were viewed as delicate and
fragile; therefore, it was understood that a male companion was a necessity to keep them safe and
secure (Cook 84). The character of Blanche Dubois embodies the 1940s distressed female as she
struggles with her environment. She is battling guilt, loneliness and financial insecurity when she
arrives in Elysian Fields. Critics and audiences alike have mixed reactions to Blanche and her role as
the tragic protagonist. In The Space of Madness and Desire Anne Fleche suggests Blanche is mad
from the outset of the play. Others such as Leonard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He suggests they could be there for one another because Blanche needs somebody too (116). To Mitch
s suggestion she replies with relief, Sometimes there s God so quickly! (116). She feels as though all
of her needs and wants have been answered, giving her hope for a secure future. Blanche needs Mitch
as a stabilizing force in her life; if her relationship with him fails, she knows she faces a world that
offers few prospects for a financially challenged, unmarried woman approaching middle age. She
tacitly admits to Mitch that she needs him when she accepts his embrace, but her fears of
acknowledging her past and current situation overpower her and prevent her from telling the full truth.
She hides her past not only from Mitch, but also from herself because to acknowledge it is to also
admit the unhealthy choices she has made. When Stanley tells Mitch about Blanche s blemished past
Mitch recognizes that Blanche s deceptions have relied on a symbolic and literal darkness which
obscures reality. When Mitch asks Blanche to be honest about herself she says, I don t want realism. I
want Magic! I don t tell truth, I tell what ought to be the truth (145). In these lines Blanche clearly
expresses her desire not to deal with reality; this inability to face her circumstances signifies that
Blanche is not recovering from her mental stress, but rather descending further into it. Blanche
becomes desperate and delusional and her descent into mental

Osama Persuasive Speech
On May 2nd, 2011, the people of the United States awoke to some of the best news they would hear
for many years to come; Osama bin Laden had been killed. President Barack Obama delivered the
message at 7:30AM and the country was buzzing about it for weeks after. Osama bin Laden was a
name that every American man, woman, and child knew. On 9 11 01, four planes were hijacked by
terrorists and crashed into strategic locations to sow chaos, confusion, death, and destruction into the
American people. 2,977 innocent Americans died on that fateful day, and the man who decided they
should die and be subject to terror was Osama bin Laden. Since that fateful day, America has donated
massive amounts of time and money to find Osama, and bring him to justice. However, time and time
again he evaded capture and kept us chasing him. In President Obama s Osama bin Laden Killed
speech he dives right into using pathos. He reminds the country of what happened 10 years ago on
9/11 and who was responsible. This is such an effective strategy because 9/11 wasn t an event that
only affected a few people, it was a day that shocked and enraged a nation. Everyone in the nation was
affected. By bringing it back up, Obama rekindles that fire of anger, sadness, and desire for justice in
the audiences hearts. Due to this, everyone is drawn in to everything he says after. President Obama
starts his speech off with this Good evening. Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the
world, the

A Postmodern Tendancy in Their Eyes Were Watching God
...Zora Neale Hurston lacks [any] excuse. The sensory sweep of her novel
carries no theme, no message, no thought. In the main, her novel is not
addressed to the Negro, but to a white audience whose chauvinistic tastes she
knows how to satisfy. She exploits the phase of Negro life which is quaint, the
phase which evokes a piteous smile on the lips of the superior race.

Zora exhibits these tendancies, which, taken separately, have been expounded upon but not yet fully
exhausted, and the time has come to realize her as a postmodern force.
Jean Francois Lyotard, in his essay, The Postmodern Condition: A Report on Knowledge, defines
postmodernism as incredulity toward metannaratives (Lyotard, 71). This works out to mean that the
overarching metanarrative of the world, which is given to us by the ruling class if one subscribes to
class theories, that forms our worldview has failed to fulfill our needs. The world is now seen as
intersecting micronarratives; people can relate because their personal explanation of the world
connects with another s explanation, but are recognizably individual because no two worldviews are
identical. All micronarratives are equally valid in Lyotard s theories, and this fits in nicely with
postmodernism s push towards inclusion rather than marginalization. This theory also pushes
postmodernism into one of its other major facets, the breakdown of binary systems.
Hassan is the pundit of the anti binarial division of the postmodern. He details that postmodernism is
not anti modernism; it is not a reaction to or successive movement. Indeed, it is different than
modernism, but also shares many

Germany During The Cold War
Section A: Plan of Investigation This investigation will assess the extent to which the division of
Germany during the cold war affected the social conditions of the citizens living in both sides. The
two main sources used will be Growing up in East Germany written by Bruno van den Elshout and
Berlin After the Wall by Cassie Leventhal. Investigations on the manner in which the social and
economic differences on each side of the wall will be evaluated through examples of the citizen s
lives. Other supplementary sources are used such as charts and graphs relating to the social standards
and behaviors that differentiate the citizens of the East and West.
Section B: Summary of Evidence
In 1990, as the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG)
was reunited under one government, many of the citizens saw each other as foreigners and claimed
that the fall of the wall actually brought some negative impacts to the citizens living in East Germany.
According to Leventhal, negative stereotypes developed about the East Germans and Westerners
resented the huge transfer of payments to the East, calling the recipients dependent, shiftless,
backwards and ungrateful. In contrast, East Berliners developed hostility towards those in the West,
calling them Boastful, aggressive, and insensitive. (Leventhal). Because many of the city services
were united, East Berlin had to compete with the more industrially efficient West Berlin which caused

The Levels Of Field Managers And Their Relationships
The 4 Levels of Field Managers and their Relationships
Multi unit enterprises are large corporations that own or manage several stores around the country. For
example Target, Walmart, Home Depot, large hotel chains like Marriott and car dealerships. How do
this corporations manage such an extensive number of stores? How do they all look and act the same?
According to David A. Garvin and Lynne C. Levesque authors of the HBR article The Multiunit
Enterprise, these large corporations need a hierarchy of field managers that will effectively lead all
stores. To manage large enterprises there needs to be a certain order, this is where the different
management hierarchies come in. Every single step up the ladder has a larger responsibility and more
control over benchmarks and setting goals. However, you can never forget that it s a team effort. It s
about strengthening relationships to be able to work together and communicate effectively.
There are four levels of field managers; store manager, district managers, regional vice presidents and
divisional heads. Although this might vary from industry to industry this is believed to be true for the
majority of large corporations.
Store managers: are responsible for both the day to day operations and the execution of new
initiatives. Although they have several goals based on their performance such as financial targets,
customer service benchmarks and employee satisfaction goals but they have little say in setting those
goals. On the

Should Kids Get Allowances
Do you think that kids should get allowance for doing chores or get an allowance no matter what? In
my opinion, I believe that kids should get an allowance for good behavior and doing chores. I believe
this because your kid can get a reward, learn to have good behavior, and your parents mostly likely
comes home from a hard day of work and needs help cleaning the house.
Getting an allowance for doing good rewards your kid a lot in his/hers future. It also definitely helps
with future behaviors. Kids know if they are doing really good for doing chores, they most likely get a
reward. It teaches them to work hard and then they get an allowance. That can help for jobs and other
opportunities. This is a good reason for getting an allowance.

The Teaching Styles of the Apology of Plato an the Gospel...
Socrates and Luke are both considered to be great educators. They have both influenced countless
people with their teachings. However, comparing the two is slightly strange since Socrates is the
subject of the story, which is told by Plato, and Luke is the teller of the story of Jesus. A comparison
can be made between the two as Socrates is a great teacher while Plato is mostly silent and Luke,
while not overly prevalent in the his story can be compared to other accounts of the story of Jesus
among which his by far the most didactic. But when you are comparing the two you must keep in
mind that you are in actuality comparing four and also that while the story teller is supposed to only be
telling you what he saw, he is also telling his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So you also, when you have done all that you were ordered to do, say, ‘We are worthless slaves; we
have done only what we ought to have done! (Luke 17:7 10)
Socrates uses much the same method when he is offering a rebuttal to Meletus accusation that he is
deliberately corrupting the young. He says,
What follows, Meletus? Are you so much wiser at your age than I am at mine that you understand that
wicked people always do some harm to their closest neighbours while good people do them good, but
I have reached such a pitch of ignorance that I do not realize this I do not believe you, Meletus, and I
do not believe that any one else will. (Plato 25d e)
Both Jesus and Socrates here have both made fairly convincing arguments for some fairly
unconvincing points. Jesus tells the apostles that basically they are slaves and they should like it,
while Socrates tries to convince the jury that he has done no harm to the structure of Greek society
with his radical philosophies. They manage to argue these unlikely lines of reasoning somewhat
successfully by leading the listener through a series of progressing questions with very obvious
answers until a fairly unlikely, but seemingly rational conclusion is drawn. Interestingly, this form of
education is known as the Socratic method as Socrates was the first to use it. Probably the most

Stalingrad Narrative
The Battle of Stalingrad
In August 1942, Hitler s massive Sixth Army marched to the city that was named after Stalin. During
the five month siege, the Russians fought to hold the city and were determined to hold it at any cost.
The book Stalingrad shows the roles of soldiers on both the Russian and German side, as well as
fighting in inhuman conditions, and some of the experiences from civilians who were trapped in the
battlefield. Antony Beevor interviewed some of the survivors and discovered new untold stories and
facts in a wide range of German and Soviet archives. Some of these included prisoner interrogations
and reports of desertions and executions. As a story of cruelty, courage, and human suffering,
Stalingrad is extraordinary and unforgettable.
Many historians argue that the Battle of Stalingrad was the turning point of WW II in Europe. During
the course of war, changes in moods, thoughts, and impressions of the Germans, Romanians and
Soviets were easily depicted. It documents the impact on the psychological changes of the war but
justifies how it changed the history of modern warfare as we know it. Stalingrad is a story of the well
known Battle of Stalingrad that took place on the Eastern Front of Europe during World War II, which
is written by world renowned historian Antony Beevor. It covers all the parts of the siege from start to
finish, it begins from the Axis invasion of the USSR, right up to the very end of the outcomes of the
various prisoners of war that were captured at Stalingrad.
On June 22, 1941, Adolf Hitler launched his massive army eastward in order to invade the Soviet
Union. The army consisted of three groups with over three million German soldiers, 150 divisions,
and three thousand tanks. The invasion covered a front from the North Cape to the Black Sea, a
distance of two thousand miles. By this point German military was the best at everything they did, the
forces invading Russia represented the best and strongest army to fight during that time. Barbarossa
was the crucial turning point in World War II, for its failure forced Nazi Germany to fight a two front
war against a coalition possessing immensely superior resources.
In Barbarossa s opening month, German armies bit

Definition of Science Fiction Essay
Perhaps one of the most versatile genres in films, television, books, artwork and any number of things
today is science fiction. Many times I have seen a sci fi movie filed under comedy or drama. That is
one of the major things that has led to my love for science fiction, the simple fact that it can be so
much more than just science fiction. I would like to present a definition of what science fiction is in
this paper. My definition will not be exact, because so many people have a different idea of what
counts as sci fi and, not only that, but we may have found yet another venue for science fiction by the
time this paper is complete. In order to define what science fiction is and to support my definition, I
am going to give some examples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One could argue that this is just a fictional story or even fantasy, but it still retains an element of
science and, therefore, falls into the category of science fiction.
Time travel: is it really science fiction? Some people would not agree that it is true sci fi since there
are so many arguments as to why time travel cannot exist. Personally, I think time travel is science
fiction since it is based on our laws of physics and can be shown mathematically using Physics
(relativity, etc.). Since I believe time travel falls into this category, I would like to give a great example
of a time traveling story. H.G. Wells The Time Machine is a fantastic story about a scientist who is
ridiculed by his peers for his theories on time travel and even examples he shows them. He ends up
traveling through time in a machine that he built and has a fantastic adventure.
An interesting addition to this list of science fiction is Jurassic Park, the book and movie. The first
time that someone mentioned this was sci fi to me I was a little surprised, but after thinking about it
for a second I realized they were right. The dinosaurs were created using a scientific process and,
somewhat, neatly explained within the story. Every time I watched that movie I had never stopped to
think about what genre it was, which happens with many people I m sure and not just with that movie.
This is one of my favorite examples of science fiction because people normally just think

Analysis Of Metales Y Derivados By Lourdes
Throughout the documentary, Lourdes fights to clean up the 6,000 tons of lead slag at the abandoned

toxic chemicals like sulfuric acid, cadmium, plastic, and lead (De La Torre Funari, 2006, 27:52) were
left exposed to the elements and the surrounding community. To clean Metales y Derivados, it would
take millions of dollars money that the promotoras and Mexican government does not have (De La
Torre Funari, 2006, 29:30). Lourdes s effort does pay off to some extent: once international media

She believes that the cheap labor model of the maquiladora industry can be ethical. That idea is not
guaranteed the hierarchal structure of the factories is a strong force. They provide jobs to those who
are in need; maquiladoras changed everything because they paid better wages than the rest of Mexico
(De La Torre Funari, 2006, 1:48). By accumulating workers and treating them like commodities,
maquiladoras continue the cycle of abuse and degradation of their workers. The ideology and
hierarchy that surrounds maquiladoras is a long way from change since to treat a disposable worker as
if she were not disposable would be silly and irrational (Wright, 2006, p.5). In the factory setting,
there is no motion to change the status of women. The status quo is essential for its operation. The
flexible Mexican male worker only materializes in tandem with the inflexible female one (Wright,
2006, p.52). While men are dependent on female workers, they also institute concepts that keep them
in a devalued space. This is an elevation of the agent (men) over female agency. In the factories, men
are seen as capable of flexible trained work and women are divorced from the ability of their bodies.
Wright (2006) identifies this structure this as the prosthetic body of supervision (p.46). The emphasis
on the male mind gives man purpose in the maquiladoras; women have accepted man s sovereignty...

Stagecoach Movie Film Analysis
The western movie I pick is John Ford s movie Stagecoach (1939). The movie is about a group of
people traveling together by stagecoach from the town Tonto to Lordsburg. The people traveling
together are a diverse group of people. All of them have the specific motivation for going, but they all
share the same goal reaching to Lordsburg. The characters are Dallas who s a prostitute, Mrs. Lucy
Mallory who is the wife of the Army Cavalry officer, Ellsworth Henry Gatewood who is a banker,
Hatfield who is a gambler, Samuel Peacock who is whiskey salesman, Doc Josiah Boone who is a
alcoholic doctor, Buck Rickabaugh who is a stage driver, Marshal Curley Wilcox who is a marshal
riding shotgun, and Ringo Kid who is an escaped outlaw.

The cinematography is by Bert Glennon. The expectations for this film is that it has to be western
because it s the genre. The movie needs to have action and movement. And have a heroic character.
The expectations are high since a lot of people watch Western genre. I don t see any manipulation of
space and time.
The story formula for Stagecoach structures around characters in the Tonto and introducing the
characters, traveling to Lordsburg, stopping at Dry Fork way station for food and unforgettable dinner
table scene, traveling towards Apache Wells in the snow, Mrs. Mallory s baby born in Apache Wells,
finally getting to Lordsburg but got attacked by the Indians, and ended with Ringo Kid in a shooting
conflict. Stagecoach did a great job in the characters types. There are the protagonists, prostitute,
gambler, schoolmarm. These are the specific character types in Western movies. The setting of the
movie is on point. It s in the American West and takes place in the 1880s. The location of Monument
Valley is a favorite location for John Ford. The presentation of Stagecoach has many great exterior
shots that collocate the characters with the environment they occupy. The stars in Stagecoach does fit
in a Western movie. Like John Wayne, he stars in many Western movies. What makes Stagecoach a
western is the traditional western theme. Like the fight between whites and Native Americans. There
is a good use of the American West s open plains and mountains.

Theme Of The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow

International Trade Development During The 19th Century
In the pre 16th century, trade played a major role during the mercantilist period. It marked the
beginning of economic development through exchange of goods and culture between continents.
According to Peter Stabel; Greve Anke and Bruno Blonde (2000) book, International Trade in Low
Countries, the trade allowed the emergence of the global market thus enhanced economic regions
interconnection and continents interdependence. In the 16th century, trade constituted a portion of
global trade but developed disproportionately in the early modern period. National markets became
increasingly interconnected, thus bringing various innovations in transportation, infrastructure, and
energy supply areas. The transition from individual manufacturing to the mass invention and
convergence in prices of materials made transactions significantly easier, thus accelerating integration.
The European countries dominated in international trade development during the 16th century. Later
on North America emerged and created a stronger global economic influence and in the 21th century,
Asian states especially China also gained influence by becoming USA creditors thus acting as the
current century economic growth engine (Peter, Bruno, Anke, 2000). As evidence in Walter Rolf
(2013) article, the establishment of new territories and population movement increased due to
economic expansion during the early days. People termed land as an important resource during those
early modern periods. The land

Invictus And The Rose That Grew From Concrete By Tupac
Obstacles. Everyone has been forced to overcome them at some point in their life. These obstacles
have shaped everyone and helped them become the person they are today. Challenges are a part of life
and everyone will face them at some point in their life, but it is how people handle it that determines
their future. This idea can be seen in many pieces of text including the following poems. Invictus by
William Ernest Henley and The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac both convey the idea that
obstacles are important in everyone s life and help shape everyone as a person on the way to their
dream.
Through Invictus William Ernest Henley shows that if people did not run into obstacles in their life,
no one would know who they truly are. The use of imagery shows this theme in that it allows the
readers to feel and see the pain that the writer is going through. For example, William Henley says, I
have not winced nor cried aloud./ my head is bloody, but unbowed (6 8). This device is being used to
demonstrate the difficult journey that the author was given to go on, in order reach his dream and be in
control of their life. It shows the theme of this poem because it speaks about the low points in a person
s life and about how by not giving in they become stronger. This device also shows that though they
have been beaten down multiple times they refuse to be broken. Another device that Henley uses is
diction. He uses this device to stress the importance of different words

Product flexibility achieves quality objective and is demonstrated by the we never like to say no
policy in meeting guests requests this pleases guests but through allowing hotel staff to show their
initiative increases motivation. Volume flexibility allows speed and quality objective to be maintained
and is shown in the way the hotel deals with seasonal fluctuations by using temporary part time staff
in backroom roles allowing experienced staff to concentrate on customer interaction roles thus
ensuring service quality and speed during the peak season. Because quality of service is consistent
there is little time spent on correcting service quality so costs are reduced through a combination of
less waste and better staff productivity. Overall flexibility enables achievement of performance
objectives which increases return customer visits which keeps room occupancy high, thus spreading
fixed costs and hence overall margins against sales revenue.

The Ethics Codes Of Uk
2
It s trust worthy and reliable to have independent and unbiased auditors confirm that an organization s
claims about its financial position and the process behind these claims are true and independent. The
most important element for the audit report and opinion should be free bias. In order to achieve this
goal, auditors need to be objective. Auditor, as one part of the professional accountancy bodies, is
required to obey the ethics codes, which ensure the auditor to be independent.
Furthermore, the ethics codes of UK utilize a principle based framework approach to outline the
circumstances and assess whether the appropriate safeguard can be carried out to mitigate the threats
in order to achieve acceptable level of independence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when the threats are unable to eliminate, the auditor should not carry on reporting auditor
opinions.
The ethics codes also provide categories of threats of independence. The first one is self interest threat.
This occurs when there is a conflicting between the auditor s financial or other self interest and the
clients . The financial or other interest will inappropriately influence the professional auditor s
judgment or behavior. For instance, if the auditor has close business relationship with the audit client,
that is a self interest threat. Furthermore, a potential engagement with an audit client and contingent
fees relating to audit engagement are also the examples of self interest threat.
The second one is called the self review threat. This threat occurs when there are previous judgments
or products made by other audit or non audit organizations. Then the auditor needs to re evaluate it to
issue a new audit opinion. Furthermore, the self review threat also occurs when the auditor were
previously a member of the auditor s client who made influence over subject matter of the audit
report. Then, self review thread includes preparation of original data used to generate financial
statements or preparation of other records that are the subject matter of the audit engagement as well.

Participating in basketball begins with picking which basketball shoes to wear. The purpose of a sports
shoe is to improve performance or reduce the risk of injury (Fong, Hong Li, 2007). While playing the
game of basketball I ve realized it is a sport that involves different types of shoes which help improve
jumping, landing, cutting and much more. Basketball has its positives and negatives for every age
group; it has good health benefits, but it also consists of moderate to high risk lower body injuries to
the lower back, legs and ankles. There are different types of basketball shoes which consist of high
tops, mid tops, low cuts, cushioned shoes, non cushioned shoes, and other different combinations. The
high tops basketball shoe will have a collar that goes above the ankle like a sleeve. The mid tops
basketball shoe covers slightly above the ankle, but lower than high tops. The low cut basketball shoes
don t have a collar at all and they don t cover the ankle. Shoes also vary by weight and outsole
traction. Through my knowledge picking the shoe to wear is solely on your preference. Whatever shoe
that you choose will have different advantages or disadvantages to them. The purpose of this literature
review is to explore the variety of effects specific shoe types have on basketball athletes.

Capillary action is part of the reason that water rises in a plant stem and moves throughout the plant.
When water enters into the plant s roots and moves to other parts of the plant through tiny tube like
structures called xylem.
This movement is called capillary action, which is one part of the plants transpiration system.Several
processes work together to transport water from where a plant absorbs it upward through the rest of its
body. To understand how these processes work, you first need to know one key feature of water: Water
molecules tend to stick together, literally.
What is transpiration?
Transpiration is the technical term for the evaporation of water from plants. As water evaporates

The negative pressure exerts a pulling force on the water in the plant s xylem and draws the water

parts, such as leaves, stems and flowers. Water is necessary for plants but only a small amount of
water taken up by the roots is used for growth and metabolism.

Living with Kidney Disease
Living With Kidney Dialysis
There are two kidneys, each about the size of a fist, located on either side of the spine at the lowest
level of the rib cage in the human body. Each kidney contains up to a million functioning units called
nephrons (CJASN). A nephron consists of a filtering unit of tiny blood vessels called a glomerulus
attached to a tubule, is a general anatomical term referring to any portion of the tubule of the nephron
or of the collection duct system of the kidney (American Society of Nephrology). More specifically
referring to that part of the nephron distal to the renal corpuscle and glomerulus and consisting of the
proximal convoluted tubule. The loop of the nephron and the distal convoluted tubule; these tubules
are lined with a simple, usually cuboidal, epithelium and they use a variety of passive and active
transport mechanisms to modify the composition of the plasma filtrate derived from the renal
corpuscle and glomerulus converting it into urine. When blood enters the glomerulus, it is filtered and
the remaining fluid then passes along the tubule. In the tubule, chemicals and water are either added to
or removed from this filtered fluid according to the body s needs, the final product being the urine we
excrete (American Society of Nephrology). Kidney disease can be triggered by many factors: diabetes,
high blood pressure, congenital abnormalities as well as genetics (National Kidney Foundation).

Just like in her previous book, in this novel too, the author does not distinguish between Germans and

In both books the Germans are portrayed in a neutral way and the words soldiers , occupiers ,
occupation troops , foreigners and enemies are amongst those employed by the authors to refer to the
Germans. What differentiates Sfaelou s and Skandalis s narratives from those that have talked about so
far, however, is that both writers make use of the term Nazis , while in one of Skandalis s short stories
the term Third Reich also comes across. Nonetheless, none of the writers provide any further
explanations, either in the narrative text or in the paratext, which would help the young reader to put
the terms in question into their historical and ideopolitical context. Furthermore, none of the authors
are concerned to distinguish between Germans as a national group and Nazis as a group of supporters
of a certain ideological doctrine and in both texts the word Nazi is used as an alternative word for
Germans . Since no distinctions are made between Germans and Nazis, the switching between the two

Dante’s Inferno in Milton´s Paradise Lost
Many arguments have been made that Dante s Inferno glimmers through here and there in Milton s
Paradise Lost. While at first glance the two poems seem quite drastically different in their portrayal of
Hell, but scholars have made arguments that influence from Dante shines through Milton s work as
well as arguments refuting these claims. All of these arguments have their own merit and while there
are instances where a Dantean influence can be seen throughout Paradise Lost, Milton s progression of
evil and Satan are quite different from Dante. Dante s influence on Milton is noted by many scholars
and is very apparent in several instances throughout Paradise Lost, however, Milton shows a

In his article, he discusses many of the authors previously mentioned such as Samuel, Hollander, and
Gurteen, and develops his own ideas about Milton s use of Dante s form of punishments. He makes
note of the fact that when Satan returns to Hell after successfully tempting Eve...he hears a universal
hiss as he and his crew transform into serpents which is clearly an allusion to that which the thieves
undergo in Cantos 24 and 25 of Dante s Inferno.
Other scholars agree that there is some flicker of Dante through Paradise Lost but argue that, although
there are instances where it seems clear of the influence, Milton and Dante s versions of Hell and
Satan are quite different.
In S. Humphreys Gurteen The Epic of The Fall of Man: A Comparative Study of Caedmon, Dante and
Milton he says, the influence of Dante s strong imagination, however, is evident throughout Paradise
Lost. It is not plagiarism, it is not imitation, it is the effect that must necessarily follow from the
contact of one powerful imagination, strong intellect, and deeply erudite mind, on that of another, in
many respects, his equal. (Gurteen, 383) While he explores

The Heat Capacity Of A Calorimeter
Introduction
According to the New World Encyclopedia, a calorimeter is an instrument used to measure the amount
of heat absorbed or released by matter through a physical or chemical reaction. The world s first ice
calorimeter was used by Antoine Lavoisier and Pierre Simon Laplace to determine the heat produced
during various chemical reactions. Their experiments set the foundation for Thermochemistry.
Improvements in technology create room for other types of calorimeters such as the brand calorimeter,
isothermal titration calorimeter and X ray micro calorimeter.
Following in the steps of Lavoisier and Pierre Simon, an experiment will be conducted on the heat
capacity of a Styrofoam calorimeter in comparison to a brand calorimeter. Water shall be used first
because of its known specific heat and the experiment will be repeated with HCL (Hydrochloric Acid)
and NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide) in hopes to calculating the specific heat of the reaction.
In this experiment, two Styrofoam cups and a brand calorimeter are each used to calculate heat
transfer. The results will be compared to see if the something as simple as a Styrofoam cup can be
used accurately as a calorimeter and produce efficient results. Using hot and cold water, the Styrofoam
cup and brand calorimeter will be used to determine the heat capacity. By using the mass of the water,
specific heat of water and the change in temperature, the heat capacity will be determined. The brand

The Impact of Electric Vehicles on Greenhouse Gas...
The rising levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHG) caused by the increased use of fossil fuels
for energy services notably transportation, heating, and the generation of electricity is known to be one
of the foremost drivers of climate change. The United States is responsible for one fourth of the world
s total greenhouse gas emissions, representing only 5% of the world population and it becomes the
world s single largest emitter of atmospheric greenhouse gasses (EPA, 2011) . Since 1970, the U.S.

economy wide CO2 cap and trade reduction program to reduce CO2 emissions to 17% below 2005

As part of the United States planned greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy, it is necessary for
U.S. to consider the effect of new electricity services coming to the transportation sector. One such
service that is gaining widespread interest is the electrification of personal transportation (also referred
to as passenger cars ) using Plug in Electric Vehicles (PEV s). The advantage of electrification of
personal transportation leads to improved air quality and to reduce the U.S s GHG contribution to
global climate change.
In 2007, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the Natural Resources Defense Council

published it as Environmental Assessment of Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), Volume 1:

Customers supply a website with the necessary profile information that helps an online personals
website built the necessary inventory of singles which attracts more customers. The structure of this

arguably the supplier themselves. Rivalry: Competition in the online personals industry seems to be
quite intense. Rivals can easily replicate a competing firm s technology and claim that their service is
superior to its competition s. Low customer loyalty makes competition even more serious as
companies have to spend a lot of money marketing their service to convey two messages: 1) their

that entering into this industry is relatively easy. Individuals simply need to understand the basics of

Music Education And Emotional Intelligence
A great musician can successfully realize two critical aspects of music while performing, the physical
and abstract. While the technical requirements of such an endeavor can be aided through direct
musical instruction, in earlier stages of musical growth the emotional demands require guidance by a
teacher and self exploration from the participant. Once success in this area becomes apparent, musical
benefits emerge and the journey the individual undertook also helps shape their emotional intelligence.
By answering the question of how music education affects an individual s emotional knowledge of
music and themselves, it will become possible to see the benefits of teaching music students with an
emphasize on emotional learning. The first task requires the establishing of a relationship between
music education and emotional intelligence, then different pedagogical techniques can be explored
and gauged for their success in producing the desired effects, all which will help draw the connections
between both ideas. Here are the parameters that will be used to guide the following discussion. The
term music education is the teaching and learning of music (Colwell). The term emotional intelligence
, also know as EI or EQ, was introduced by Daniel Goleman and colleagues and is defined as a person
s ability to recognize emotions, make a choice as to what emotions are appropriate for given
circumstances, and then be able to effectively communicate those emotions (Wood 168). In terms

Interpretation Of My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke
A Perfect Balance While the subject of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate
academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the
poem clearly support the interpretation that Roethke writes this ambiguous poem with the intent to
create a controversial interpretation which can be viewed as both or either an abusive or fond memory
between father and son. Both interpretations can be supported by multiple pieces of evidence which
creates a conflict for the reader to need clarification for which way to interpret the poem.
The controversy from My Papa s Waltz sparked due to Roethke s mixed use of words retaining
negative or positive connotations which can support either argument. One word could lead to either
abuse or a memory. For example, the first line of the fourth stanza contains You beat time on my head
which can be seen in a variety of ways. At first glance, it may seem as if the father physically hit the
child with his hand; however, upon a deep analysis, it becomes clear that one might interpret the word
beat as though it s the rhythm of a dance. Roethke makes readers delve deep into the context just to
find both meanings. He cleverly uses diction to require the reader to reread his poem. Due to the
numerous amounts of phrases containing words chosen with positive and negative connotations,
Roethke fabricates a perfect balance which causes the reader to find difficulty understand the true
meaning of My Papa s Waltz.
Although Roethke s use of diction may fuel both arguments, It cannot reveal his intentions behind the
poem alone. He uses imagery to his advantage of this mind game by plugging in words throughout the
poem which captivate the reader and force them to form a mental image; he does illustrates in My
Papa s Waltz by stating The whiskey on your breath could make a small boy dizzy. This statement
reveals how drunk the father is which sets interpretation for the rest of the poem. Since drinking is one
cause of abuse, numerous amounts of people may see the rest of the poem as the father abusing his
child. On the contrast, Others can view whiskey as an expensive drink only used to celebrate special
occasions in the time

there are cultural aspects in DJ culture that my mixtape relates to. By the early 1950s, the creation of
Rhythm and Blues first existed as black music for black people. Furthermore, with the presence of R

One technique I used was beatmatching. After importing all the tracks I wanted to use into Audacity
and ordering them in a specific way, I decided which 2 tracks each I would mix. Therefore, in order to
beatmatch, I had to choose which parts of the tracks I wanted to transition. Also, in order to transition
from one track to another, I had to align the specific basses. In other words, I had to align where the
start of the beat in one track occurred to the last beat of the other track. This is to allow both tracks to
have the same beat, therefore beatmatching. I also used fading in and out effects to smoothly
transition. I used this technique for a majority of the track. Another DJ technique I used was fast
cutting. Because some songs had a faster bpm, I used fast cutting to quickly transition into another
track while also keeping the same beat. I deleted certain parts of the songs to quickly change the song,
but in a way so that the beat does not change. Lastly, I downloaded a hip hop/R B sound effect and
repeated it throughout the mixtape so it wouldn t be as plain. I decided to make a mixtape containing
only R B songs because, in my perspective, it is a type of genre in which anybody can relate to and
sing along to as well. Therefore, just as other DJs have a purpose, my purpose is to allow the audience

Comparing Two Corinthians And Put On The Whole Armor Of God
How the Devil Works The most important thing we can learn about the devil, to successfully defeat
him, is an understanding of his wiles and devices. For, being prepared is likely our best defense. Paul
said that Satan would have no advantage over us if we are not ignorant of his devices. II Corinthians

never know which trick or scheme the devil will use on us. Although the devil works through agents,
that which one authorizes another to do is the same as doing it himself; thus, since Satan sometimes
pretends to be an angel of light, we can expect his ministers to also transform themselves as ministers
of righteousness. (II Corinthians 11:14) Lies that are sugarcoated with the claim of truth are more

many, high school is torture. It is a jail. It is boring and horrific. Students long for a taste of freedom

place where students get ready for college, and sadly, many are not ready. An extra year for students in
high school will give them an opportunity to become prepared for college. For many students, four
years of high school is not enough for college. Extending high school to five years would allow
students to have a looser schedule, and allow them to be economically and mentally ready. Most high
school students have very tight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, an extra year allows many students to mature into young adults. Maturity is a huge
problem in America s society. People who are not mature tend to make bad decisions, become easily
depressed, have more addictions, and it can also lead to a bad character. Despite the obvious
advantages, many high school students would not want to extend high school to five years. This is
because, students already feel as if four years is too much for high school. Of the millions of high
school students, about one out of every five actually enjoy high school. With dropout rates rising
faster than ever, adding an extra year would just increase dropout rates even more. Also, most high
school students lose interest after a few years of their high school experience. Extending high school
to five years would just be more time for students to be bored. However, by extending high school to
five years, students will be able to explore more subjects. By doing this, more students will be able to
find a subject in which they are interested in. Because of this, the student will be able to specialize in
that one subject, since they are interested in it. Also, this would decrease the amount of drop outs and
allow students to be more interested in school subjects. High school is one of the most important
things to a student s life. It is the foundation

Environment And Human Environment
Ecosystems is the dynamic complex of plant, animal and micro organism communities and their non
living environment that work together to form a functional unit and they are constantly changing due
to the fluctuating equilibrium from natural stress and human action which has had adversarial impacts
on ecosystems. This is evident in Minnamurra rainforest as human induced modifications and
environmental stresses had resulted in a vulnerable ecosystem. Furthermore, the removal of factors
that contribute to the vulnerability of an ecosystem is important as it affect the functioning of the
ecosystem as processes are accelerated, biodiversity is decreased which greatly affects humans.
Despite the negative effects caused by humans, they have discovered that ecosystems are susceptible
from harm caused by natural environmental factors or human impacts and realised the importance of
protecting and managing ecosystems therefore have implemented management strategies that are
supposed to prevent further detriment and as a consequence may induce resiliency.
Within Minnamurra rainforest all biophysical components rely on each other, for example changes to
the lithosphere (gaseous elements surrounding the earth), can cause stress to the flora and fauna within
the ecosystem and impact other abiotic factors. Human interaction has also caused many detrimental
impacts on the ecosystem through changes in lithospheric processes. For instance littering can bring
unwanted diseases that can affect

The competition is basically on price and profits. Other small and private carriers are also competing
with FedEx (Foust, 2003).
Strengths
Major strength of FedEx is its fastest home delivery service among all courier companies.
Customer base of FedEx is its one major strength but proper attention should be paid to maintain it
properly.
Another huge privilege which FedEx possess is its Smart Post option which allows it to utilize e
commerce to carry out the courier delivery services.
It has gained the position of 2nd largest LTL carrier in US and thus has gained much popularity among
its clients.
It s well established online courier tracking services are gaining more and more popularity in recent
times thus allowing the clients to attract towards the company more easily.
Innovation is one big advantage which FedEx carries and thus it keeps on innovating new solutions
for client s problems.
Weaknesses
One big weakness of FedEx is its inability in maintaining its competitive position in the marketing
especially in comparison to its big competitor named UPS.
Not completely but high costs are also making its success a bit away because competitors offer such
packages at low rates.
Although it is efficient but sometimes quality of services does not satisfy clients which in case make
the customer base decrease at a slower pace but it is still dangerous for the company.

Research Paper On Biometrics
SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT
Biometrics is a form of human identification that is used as an advanced security measure. Biometrics
uses distinctive personal traits to uniquely identify humans and eliminates the need for traditional
methods of identification such as the use of personal identification numbers or passwords.
In technical terms, biometrics is the automated technique of measuring a physical characteristic or
personal trait of an individual and comparing that characteristic or trait to a database for purposes of
recognizing that individual. (WOODWARD, 2005)
Biometrics uses physical characteristics, defined as the things we are, and personal traits, defined as
the things we do, including the following.
1) Physical characteristics:
Chemical composition of body odor;
Facial features and thermal emissions;
Features of the eye retina and iris;
Fingerprints;
hand geometry;
Skin pores;
Wrist/hand veins.
2) Personal traits:
Handwritten signature;
Keystrokes or typing;
Voiceprint

However, more recently, the benefits of using biometrics to improve security, convenience, and
inclusion in society more efficiently and at reduced cost are being widely recognized. Today,
biometric solutions are being used by the general public in areas such as: Border control and
immigration (ePassports, border control gates, residence, visa or asylum permits) Civil ID (identity
cards, health insurance, social benefits schemes, voting rights) Banking (Automated Teller Machines,
private banking services, mobile banking) Shopping (customer personalization, VIP/loyalty

Positive Attitudes Toward Medical Ethics
In this study, of the whole 380 subjects under study, 47.7% (180 subjects) were men, and 52.6% (200
subjects) were women. Moreover, all subjects belonged to the 19 27 age range, and the mean and
standard deviation of samples age were 22.48±2.7. In terms of marital status, the majority of subjects
were single (77.1% or 293 subjects). Additionally, in terms of education, 180 subjects (47.4%) were
medical students, 113 subjects (29.7%) were majoring in nursing, and 87 subjects (22.9%) were
midwifery students.
The results showed that 75.8% (288 subjects) of students held positive attitudes towards medical
ethics (with a mean and standard deviation of 4.500± 0.73). The highest and lowest values of attitudes
towards medical ethics belonged to the principle of beneficence (with a mean and standard deviation
of 4.62± 0.67) and the principle of justice (with a mean and standard deviation of 4.29± 0.80),

Influence Of Dbq On Latin American Culture
As a mix of diverse people gave rise to a new social structure and introduced a cultural blending in the
Spanish empire, located in Latin America, eventually a growing population of lower classed non white
people became angered at the privileges of the whites. Being denied the status, wealth and power that
were given to whites, the mestizos and the mulattoes resented the Spanish. Masses of enslaved
Africans and the many populations that were looked down upon suffered economic misery and longed
for freedom, eventually leading revolutions across Latin America. Those revolted were motivated by
love for one s race and freedom, like what Father Miguel Hidalgo says in Document A of the Latin
American DBQ, we are not Europeans; we are not Indians;

Andre Agassi s Open Essay
In Andre Agassi s autobiography Open, Agassi provides an in depth description of his childhood and
the pressures that burdened him throughout his life. From an early age, Agassi was primed to become
the best tennis player in the world. Agassi s father, Mike, forced the sport of tennis upon him. Andre
would be forced to hit thousands of balls every day. My father says that if I hit 2,500 balls each day, I
ll hit 17,500 balls each week, and at the end of one year I ll have hit nearly one million balls. A child
who hits one million balls each year will be unbeatable (Agassi, 28). This heavy and inordinate
workload proved to wear on Andre as his childhood went on. Agassi developed a hatred for tennis. He
describes his relationship with tennis by saying, I hate tennis, hate it with all my heart, and I still keep
playing,... because I have no choice. He goes on to say, This contradiction between what i want to do
and what I actually do, feels like the center of my life (27). Andre never got the chance to develop his
own goals and expectations. Eventually, he pursued his father s goals even though that is not what he
wanted. I ve internalized my father his impatience, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a talk given in the October session of the 2010 semi annual LDS General Conference, President
Thomas S. Monson stated, every worthy, able young man should prepare to serve a mission.
Missionary service is a priesthood duty an obligation the Lord expects of us who have been given so
very much. Young men, I admonish you to prepare for service as a missionary (Monson). Ever since,
church leaders and parents have been urging children to prepare for the opportunity to serve a mission.
Due to the prodding from my parents, I reluctantly took the call and started to prepare. Soon after, I
began to question if a mission was what I wanted to do. I privately looked into all my options and
concluded that I mission was in fact a good goal to

A Cultural Mismatch Essay
Chapter Nine
(Organizational Design, Culture, and Change)
Application Case:
A Cultural Mismatch
1) Based on the experiences of Chrysler and Diamler Benz AG, what is the importance of culture in
the change process?
Culture effects performance! Each structural culture operates differently; in order for them to properly
function they must combine their processes. These processes would include management styles, pay
structures, capacity to communicate, compromise, understanding and accepting different cultures,
conforming to meet planned goals, the ability to maintain and meet a new combined culture and
working structures. An organizational culture s effectiveness is determined by: coherence, persuasive
and depth, and adaptability to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Germans prided themselves on analytical research that produced a plan, while the Americans
reached for the impossible and kept coming up with new ideas to achieve these impossible goals.
3) What specific mistakes did Chrysler and Daimler Benz AG make in the change process? Cite
examples to support your answer.
A cultural clash was the major hurdle to the realization of the synergies identified before the merger
even took place. The Germans and the Americans had been out of sync from the start. The two proud
management teams resisted working together, were wary of change and weren t willing to
compromise causing the company to agree on a plan for development. Daimler Chrysler combined
nothing beyond some administrative departments, such as finance and public relations. Not selecting a
change agent was the biggest mistake during the change process. The Company s American President
James P. Holden was replaced with a German Executive; Dieter Zetsche, who imposed
DaimlerChrysler Benz cultures making any possible implementations for planning impossible due to
lack of communication and ability to conform a new culture that worked in both organizations.

  • 2. Disney Corporttion´s Negative Influence in Children via... What started out as cartoon shows such as Mickey Mouse has now changed into a profit driven corporation. With TV shows, movies, clothing lines, toys, CDs, books, and theme parks, Disney is creating billions in revenue. However, the profits are at the cost of the youth. One way the youth are being harmed is children are absorbed in watching television shows that Disney plays daily. The amount of time spent watching television has increased in the years, while the amount of time spent playing games outside has decreased. Because of this, health issues in children have risen, especially in the United States. Also, children begin to idolize the child actors from the shows on Disney such as Miley Cyrus in Hannah Montana . Although some actresses are good role models, most usually are not. Child actors are more likely to develop drug addictions, alcohol addictions, and eating disorders than an average teenager. Not only are the child actors harmed from being put into a crazy lifestyle, the children who idolize these actors are harmed as well. Therefore, Disney s influence on the youth is harmful and should be limited. Obesity and other health issues are become a problem for the youth in America. While poor diets contribute greatly to the problem, there are other factors as well, for instance, lack of exercise or physical activity. With numerous television shows for children of all ages, more time is spent inside, watching these shows than outside running around playing tag or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Decline And Decline Of The Early Church Attendance The problem under examination is the decline in church attendance in America, and the impact of that decline on our society. The purpose of the research was to ascertain the factors that contribute to the decline in church attendance. The research methodology that was used was the qualitative method. Empirical data from the scholarly research was closely examined and analyzed to determine the five main reasons for this decline. They are as follows: 1) Secularization of Society 2) Inability of the Organization to Adapt to ever changing times 3) Failure to retain youth beyond Post High School years 4) Disenfranchised members 5) Lack of Zeal. The church must, therefore, make the effort to give time and attention to these factors in order to reverse this negative trend. In conclusion, these are the five things churches need to do to sustain and improve the growth of their congregations. First, develop a strategies by each particular set of environmental factors internally as well as externally. Second, resist the temptation to use secularization as a stumbling block, but utilize to formulate innovative methods of doing business instead of plodding along with business as usual. Third, instill faith that will last within the youth so that even if they stray if but a moment the will be wired in such a manner that they will return to their core set of values. • 4. Five Steps In The Departure Of The Hero s Quest There are five steps in the Departure of the Hero s Quest. The first step of the Departure is The Call to Adventure. This is the point in the character s life when he realizes he is going to have to go on the Hero Quest. Beowulf experienced The Call to Adventure when he realized what Grendel was doing to Heorot, and he felt obligated to help King Hrothgar because he is his father s friend. The second step of the Departure is the Refusal of the Call. The Refusal of the Call is when the hero first refuses the call because of fear, insecurity, etc. This step is not included in Beowulf. I think the author chose to omit this step because he wanted Beowulf to seem as heroic as possible, without refusing the quest. The third step of the Departure is the Supernatural Aid. ... This doesn t occur much in the first part of Beowulf s quest with the fight with Grendel. However, it occurs when Beowulf decides to find Grendel s mother and goes into the marshes where she lives. The fifth step of the Departure is The Belly of the Whale. This is when the hero s known world and self is separated. This occurs in Beowulf when Beowulf decides to fight the dragon. • 5. The Mental Destruction of Blanche Dubois Essay Tennessee William s play A Street Car Named Desire offers a glimpse into the harsh reality faced by single southern woman in the 1940s. The 1940s was a time when females were viewed as delicate and fragile; therefore, it was understood that a male companion was a necessity to keep them safe and secure (Cook 84). The character of Blanche Dubois embodies the 1940s distressed female as she struggles with her environment. She is battling guilt, loneliness and financial insecurity when she arrives in Elysian Fields. Critics and audiences alike have mixed reactions to Blanche and her role as the tragic protagonist. In The Space of Madness and Desire Anne Fleche suggests Blanche is mad from the outset of the play. Others such as Leonard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He suggests they could be there for one another because Blanche needs somebody too (116). To Mitch s suggestion she replies with relief, Sometimes there s God so quickly! (116). She feels as though all of her needs and wants have been answered, giving her hope for a secure future. Blanche needs Mitch as a stabilizing force in her life; if her relationship with him fails, she knows she faces a world that offers few prospects for a financially challenged, unmarried woman approaching middle age. She tacitly admits to Mitch that she needs him when she accepts his embrace, but her fears of acknowledging her past and current situation overpower her and prevent her from telling the full truth. She hides her past not only from Mitch, but also from herself because to acknowledge it is to also admit the unhealthy choices she has made. When Stanley tells Mitch about Blanche s blemished past Mitch recognizes that Blanche s deceptions have relied on a symbolic and literal darkness which obscures reality. When Mitch asks Blanche to be honest about herself she says, I don t want realism. I want Magic! I don t tell truth, I tell what ought to be the truth (145). In these lines Blanche clearly expresses her desire not to deal with reality; this inability to face her circumstances signifies that Blanche is not recovering from her mental stress, but rather descending further into it. • 6. Osama Persuasive Speech On May 2nd, 2011, the people of the United States awoke to some of the best news they would hear for many years to come; Osama bin Laden had been killed. President Barack Obama delivered the message at 7:30AM and the country was buzzing about it for weeks after. Osama bin Laden was a name that every American man, woman, and child knew. On 9 11 01, four planes were hijacked by terrorists and crashed into strategic locations to sow chaos, confusion, death, and destruction into the American people. 2,977 innocent Americans died on that fateful day, and the man who decided they should die and be subject to terror was Osama bin Laden. Since that fateful day, America has donated massive amounts of time and money to find Osama, and bring him to justice. However, time and time again he evaded capture and kept us chasing him. In President Obama s Osama bin Laden Killed speech he dives right into using pathos. He reminds the country of what happened 10 years ago on 9/11 and who was responsible. This is such an effective strategy because 9/11 wasn t an event that only affected a few people, it was a day that shocked and enraged a nation. Everyone in the nation was affected. By bringing it back up, Obama rekindles that fire of anger, sadness, and desire for justice in the audiences hearts. Due to this, everyone is drawn in to everything he says after. The sensory sweep of her novel carries no theme, no message, no thought. In the main, her novel is not addressed to the Negro, but to a white audience whose chauvinistic tastes she knows how to satisfy. She exploits the phase of Negro life which is quaint, the phase which evokes a piteous smile on the lips of the superior race. from Their Eyes Were Watching God (1937), a review by Richard Wright An unfortunate side effect of the postmodern tendency is often reactions like the above. Zora exhibits these tendancies, which, taken separately, have been expounded upon but not yet fully exhausted, and the time has come to realize her as a postmodern force. Jean Francois Lyotard, in his essay, The Postmodern Condition: A Report on Knowledge, defines postmodernism as incredulity toward metannaratives (Lyotard, 71). This works out to mean that the overarching metanarrative of the world, which is given to us by the ruling class if one subscribes to class theories, that forms our worldview has failed to fulfill our needs. The world is now seen as intersecting micronarratives; people can relate because their personal explanation of the world connects with another s explanation, but are recognizably individual because no two worldviews are identical. All micronarratives are equally valid in Lyotard s theories, and this fits in nicely with postmodernism s push towards inclusion rather than marginalization. This theory also pushes postmodernism into one of its other major facets, the breakdown of binary systems. Hassan is the pundit of the anti binarial division of the postmodern. He details that postmodernism is not anti modernism; it is not a reaction to or successive movement. Indeed, it is different than modernism, but also shares many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Investigations on the manner in which the social and economic differences on each side of the wall will be evaluated through examples of the citizen s lives. Other supplementary sources are used such as charts and graphs relating to the social standards and behaviors that differentiate the citizens of the East and West. Section B: Summary of Evidence In 1990, as the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) was reunited under one government, many of the citizens saw each other as foreigners and claimed that the fall of the wall actually brought some negative impacts to the citizens living in East Germany. According to Leventhal, negative stereotypes developed about the East Germans and Westerners resented the huge transfer of payments to the East, calling the recipients dependent, shiftless, backwards and ungrateful. In contrast, East Berliners developed hostility towards those in the West, calling them Boastful, aggressive, and insensitive. (Leventhal). For example Target, Walmart, Home Depot, large hotel chains like Marriott and car dealerships. How do this corporations manage such an extensive number of stores? How do they all look and act the same? According to David A. Garvin and Lynne C. Levesque authors of the HBR article The Multiunit Enterprise, these large corporations need a hierarchy of field managers that will effectively lead all stores. To manage large enterprises there needs to be a certain order, this is where the different management hierarchies come in. Every single step up the ladder has a larger responsibility and more control over benchmarks and setting goals. However, you can never forget that it s a team effort. However, comparing the two is slightly strange since Socrates is the subject of the story, which is told by Plato, and Luke is the teller of the story of Jesus. A comparison can be made between the two as Socrates is a great teacher while Plato is mostly silent and Luke, while not overly prevalent in the his story can be compared to other accounts of the story of Jesus among which his by far the most didactic. • 13. Stalingrad Narrative The Battle of Stalingrad In August 1942, Hitler s massive Sixth Army marched to the city that was named after Stalin. During the five month siege, the Russians fought to hold the city and were determined to hold it at any cost. The book Stalingrad shows the roles of soldiers on both the Russian and German side, as well as fighting in inhuman conditions, and some of the experiences from civilians who were trapped in the battlefield. Antony Beevor interviewed some of the survivors and discovered new untold stories and facts in a wide range of German and Soviet archives. Some of these included prisoner interrogations and reports of desertions and executions. As a story of cruelty, courage, and human suffering, Stalingrad is extraordinary and unforgettable. Many historians argue that the Battle of Stalingrad was the turning point of WW II in Europe. During the course of war, changes in moods, thoughts, and impressions of the Germans, Romanians and Soviets were easily depicted. It documents the impact on the psychological changes of the war but justifies how it changed the history of modern warfare as we know it. Stalingrad is a story of the well known Battle of Stalingrad that took place on the Eastern Front of Europe during World War II, which is written by world renowned historian Antony Beevor. It covers all the parts of the siege from start to finish, it begins from the Axis invasion of the USSR, right up to the very end of the outcomes of the various prisoners of war that were captured at Stalingrad. On June 22, 1941, Adolf Hitler launched his massive army eastward in order to invade the Soviet Union. The army consisted of three groups with over three million German soldiers, 150 divisions, and three thousand tanks. The invasion covered a front from the North Cape to the Black Sea, a distance of two thousand miles. By this point German military was the best at everything they did, the forces invading Russia represented the best and strongest army to fight during that time. Barbarossa was the crucial turning point in World War II, for its failure forced Nazi Germany to fight a two front war against a coalition possessing immensely superior resources. Many times I have seen a sci fi movie filed under comedy or drama. That is one of the major things that has led to my love for science fiction, the simple fact that it can be so much more than just science fiction. I would like to present a definition of what science fiction is in this paper. My definition will not be exact, because so many people have a different idea of what counts as sci fi and, not only that, but we may have found yet another venue for science fiction by the time this paper is complete. Time travel: is it really science fiction? Some people would not agree that it is true sci fi since there are so many arguments as to why time travel cannot exist. Personally, I think time travel is science fiction since it is based on our laws of physics and can be shown mathematically using Physics (relativity, etc.). Since I believe time travel falls into this category, I would like to give a great example of a time traveling story. H.G. Wells The Time Machine is a fantastic story about a scientist who is ridiculed by his peers for his theories on time travel and even examples he shows them. He ends up traveling through time in a machine that he built and has a fantastic adventure. An interesting addition to this list of science fiction is Jurassic Park, the book and movie. The first time that someone mentioned this was sci fi to me I was a little surprised, but after thinking about it for a second I realized they were right. The dinosaurs were created using a scientific process and, somewhat, neatly explained within the story. Every time I watched that movie I had never stopped to think about what genre it was, which happens with many people I m sure and not just with that movie. By accumulating workers and treating them like commodities, maquiladoras continue the cycle of abuse and degradation of their workers. The ideology and hierarchy that surrounds maquiladoras is a long way from change since to treat a disposable worker as if she were not disposable would be silly and irrational (Wright, 2006, p.5). It marked the beginning of economic development through exchange of goods and culture between continents. According to Peter Stabel; Greve Anke and Bruno Blonde (2000) book, International Trade in Low Countries, the trade allowed the emergence of the global market thus enhanced economic regions interconnection and continents interdependence. In the 16th century, trade constituted a portion of global trade but developed disproportionately in the early modern period. National markets became increasingly interconnected, thus bringing various innovations in transportation, infrastructure, and energy supply areas. The transition from individual manufacturing to the mass invention and convergence in prices of materials made transactions significantly easier, thus accelerating integration. The European countries dominated in international trade development during the 16th century. Later on North America emerged and created a stronger global economic influence and in the 21th century, Asian states especially China also gained influence by becoming USA creditors thus acting as the current century economic growth engine (Peter, Bruno, Anke, 2000). Challenges are a part of life and everyone will face them at some point in their life, but it is how people handle it that determines their future. This idea can be seen in many pieces of text including the following poems. Invictus by William Ernest Henley and The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac both convey the idea that obstacles are important in everyone s life and help shape everyone as a person on the way to their dream. Through Invictus William Ernest Henley shows that if people did not run into obstacles in their life, no one would know who they truly are. The use of imagery shows this theme in that it allows the readers to feel and see the pain that the writer is going through. The Heat Capacity Of A Calorimeter Introduction According to the New World Encyclopedia, a calorimeter is an instrument used to measure the amount of heat absorbed or released by matter through a physical or chemical reaction. The world s first ice calorimeter was used by Antoine Lavoisier and Pierre Simon Laplace to determine the heat produced during various chemical reactions. Their experiments set the foundation for Thermochemistry. Improvements in technology create room for other types of calorimeters such as the brand calorimeter, isothermal titration calorimeter and X ray micro calorimeter. Following in the steps of Lavoisier and Pierre Simon, an experiment will be conducted on the heat capacity of a Styrofoam calorimeter in comparison to a brand calorimeter. Water shall be used first because of its known specific heat and the experiment will be repeated with HCL (Hydrochloric Acid) and NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide) in hopes to calculating the specific heat of the reaction. In this experiment, two Styrofoam cups and a brand calorimeter are each used to calculate heat transfer. The results will be compared to see if the something as simple as a Styrofoam cup can be used accurately as a calorimeter and produce efficient results. Using hot and cold water, the Styrofoam cup and brand calorimeter will be used to determine the heat capacity. Once success in this area becomes apparent, musical benefits emerge and the journey the individual undertook also helps shape their emotional intelligence. • 33. Interpretation Of My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke A Perfect Balance While the subject of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly support the interpretation that Roethke writes this ambiguous poem with the intent to create a controversial interpretation which can be viewed as both or either an abusive or fond memory between father and son. Both interpretations can be supported by multiple pieces of evidence which creates a conflict for the reader to need clarification for which way to interpret the poem. The controversy from My Papa s Waltz sparked due to Roethke s mixed use of words retaining negative or positive connotations which can support either argument. One word could lead to either abuse or a memory. For example, the first line of the fourth stanza contains You beat time on my head which can be seen in a variety of ways. At first glance, it may seem as if the father physically hit the child with his hand; however, upon a deep analysis, it becomes clear that one might interpret the word beat as though it s the rhythm of a dance. Roethke makes readers delve deep into the context just to find both meanings. He cleverly uses diction to require the reader to reread his poem. Due to the numerous amounts of phrases containing words chosen with positive and negative connotations, Roethke fabricates a perfect balance which causes the reader to find difficulty understand the true meaning of My Papa s Waltz. Although Roethke s use of diction may fuel both arguments, It cannot reveal his intentions behind the poem alone. He uses imagery to his advantage of this mind game by plugging in words throughout the poem which captivate the reader and force them to form a mental image; he does illustrates in My Papa s Waltz by stating The whiskey on your breath could make a small boy dizzy. This statement reveals how drunk the father is which sets interpretation for the rest of the poem. Since drinking is one cause of abuse, numerous amounts of people may see the rest of the poem as the father abusing his child.
