Taking Risks And Trying New Things
Taking risks and trying new things is a thrilling moment for me. I can usually pride myself on
being adventurous when it comes to trying new food. Either trying a type of cuisine foreign to
me or choosing a new restaurant, I can always say that I will try anything at least once. If it is a
dish in a restaurant I have never tried before, or something that a family member or friend made, I
always think that nothing is so appalling that one bite may kill me. It is an exciting time for me, as
I might find a new foodtype that I had never heard of before that will end up becoming a new
favorite.
Sushi restaurants have been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember. Japanese cuisine is
one of my favorites and I cherish every time I get to enjoy a meal at an authentic sushi restaurant.
I have always loved the varied aspects of Japanese cuisine, the fresh raw fish, the unique sushi
rolls, and the many enticing side dishes. I am always willing to try anything and never seem to
find a single dish at a sushi restaurant that I am not fond of. When I moved to Riverside, my family
began visiting this one all you can eat sushi restaurant. It was a great environment and an exciting
dining experience as you can order and try anything on the menu. This particular sushi restaurant
became a fast favorite of mine.
One evening however, I would be tested on just how willing I was to trying something strange and
new. On my way to the restaurant with my family, we were all eager for a

Alfred Adler Motivation
When I first learned about Alfred Adler in class, I found him quite relatable. There are some
plausible notions that he proposes, but for the most part I could understand how Adler came to
the conclusions that he did, as I have experienced his ideas myself. His take on social interest is
something I believe every human can relate to. Humans are social animals that seek to create
relationships with one another which establishes the social environment we live in. Imagine
living in isolation for a year, no contact with any humans whatsoever. I believe that person would
become insane. This concept of social interest became very clear to me during my first couple
years of college. In high school, I was not the most socially adept person as I was still quite
immature. However, once I was came to Biola, it was a refreshing experience to be living
independently without the accompaniment of my parents. I was finally able to be myself and
find a solid group of friends that I have desired for since high school. This was a turning point in
life, as the importance of friendship became even clearer. Community is not only a
psychological need but also a biblical need. The adventures and journeys we went on were
always memorable because our bonds we shared with each other grew deeper every time. It
developed my identity as a college student and my social skills greatly improved because of it. I
find Adler s finalism an interesting perspective concerning our goals in life. To say that

The Importance Of The Evolution Of Sexual Selection
As a result of sexual selection, many male animals have evolved extraordinary structures, usually
used as ornaments for attracting females, or weapons, for fighting mating rivals (Douhard et al.,
2017; O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; McCullough and Emlen, 2013; Emlen, 2008).
The diversity of these structures is usually extremely high (both intra and interspecifically) and
have existed in many animal groups, including extinct trilobites and dinosaurs, to beetles, birds and
hoofed mammals (ungulates) found today (O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; Emlen,
2008; Emlen et al., 2005; Emlen, 2001). Although both ornaments and weapons will increase
mating opportunities for males, the mechanisms shaping the evolution of... Show more content on

This bias is likely influenced by the appearance of horns in many female bovid species as well as
caribou, the only female cervid to evolve antlers, possibly as anti predator defences, a result of
natural selection (McCullough et al., 2016; Stankowich and Caro, 2009; Emlen, 2008; Bro
JГёrgensen, 2007). Although investigating beetles, McCullough et al. (2014) determined weapon
morphology to be more effective against species typical fighting, with sexual selection through
male male competition enhancing horn diversity. Only relatively more recently, have effects of
male male competition, within ungulates, to the diversity of horn morphologies received
increased attention, despite such studies being present within the field for over 50 years
(McCullough et al., 2016; Bro JГёrgensen, 2007; Caro et al., 2003). The evolution of horns within
artiodactyls is thought to have arisen independently at least three times, with a change in habitat
from closed to open woodland and at a crucial body weight of around 15 18kg, which is thought to
influence territorial defence by males (Janis, 1982). As a result, many investigations on horn
morphology diversity among male bovids and cervids has been completed to environmental factors,
scaling relationships of body mass and social variables that may

People, Places, and Events Reflection
I attended a student organization and development workshop series which was held on February 4,
2014 at Russell union. The topic for the workshop series was Building an Exclusive Campus and
the speaker was Paul Bradley, a worker at the student activities office. This series scheduled to start
at 7:00p.m. but it was started some minutes after seven due the lateness of the attendees. I attended
this program because I thought it would help melearn about the different organizations on campus,
and how to network through socialization which would helpme to easily transition from college
into medical school and blend with the others without feeling any different. Thus, to be able to
make new friends, get to know people first before judging them, and last but not the least, learn
of the many organizations and the important role I can play in them if I become a member to
promote the organizations purpose existence. The speaker talked about how to promote an
organization by making it open to everyone and not limiting it to a certain group of race, color,
religion, gender and so on. By attending this sold series, I learned about how we easily
stereotype a person or a group of individuals whom we have never spoken to but easily judge
them because of their color, race, or background. The knowledge that I acquired at this event will
help me to understand people and their actions especially my patients five years from now when I

Ir The Iranian Nuclear Program
The Iranian nuclear program began in the 1950 s under the Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi. The
Shah applied for help to establish the program through the Atoms for Peace program. The program
was started by the United States and helped provide a nuclear research reactor and power plants for
Iran. At this time the United States and the rest of the world believed that Iranwas interested in
nuclear poweras a means to provide a power source to help modernize Iran. Seventeen years later
Iran is one of 51 nations to sign the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty. In 1979 the Iranian
government is overthrown and Shah Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini comes to power and ends the

world continued to provide technology to Iran for the purposes of a peaceful nuclear energy
program. In 2003 the European Union imposed economic sanctions on Iran due to the discovery of
enriched Uranium being found by the United Nation atomic agency. The ban lasts as long as Iran
continues to produce enriched Uranium. In November of 2004 a deal is struck between the EU
and Iran to continue to help Iran develop peaceful nuclear power as long as Iran stops production of
enriched Uranium. Between 2004 and the end of 2006 Iran completed construction of a heavy
water reactor thereby causing the United Nations to ban the import and export of materials and
technology used in uranium enrichment, reprocessing and ballistic missiles (Gootman, 2006,
December 23). In 2011 the United Nations provided credible proof that Iran was working on a
nuclear device, this evidence resulted in the strictest sanctions to date. The sanctions prevented Iran

West England White Terrier Research Paper
The West Highland White Terrier is an adorable, hardy small dog that is relatively easy to train.
This breed has gained an enormous popularity over the recent years due to its attractive overall
appearance, particularly his coat which is one of the breed s most striking features. His cute and
handy size, along with his superb sporting instinct makes him suitable for town or country living.
He gets along very well with children as well as other dogs which makes him a wonderful family
dog.
Size: The average size for a healthy adult West Highland White Terrier is about 11in. There is no
particular weight standard for this breed in the United States or the United Kingdom.

He would love an occasional marrow or chop bone; this dog loves to dig, usually to recover a long
discarded much enjoyed bone.
Exercise: He can easily get used to town or country living and be satisfied either indoors or in a
kennel. However, he will be happiest as an indoor pet that is allowed to run around inside the house
and gets enough chance to be taken out for a walk. Keep in mind that this breed was originally
used as a working dog with the job to hunt badger and fox. He is also a good ratter and enjoys a
lively game of ball.
Grooming: The West Highland White Terrier is a great choice for a family who wants an active
and healthy dog. But if you have a busy lifestyle and do not have the time to spend on regular
grooming, perhaps you should think twice about getting this breed. His coat needs to be brushed
and combed everyday. In addition, he needs his coat trimmed twice a year, particularly in the
neckline. Straggly hairs need to be removed from ears and tail. Ideally, his coat should be more or
less 2in long with the neck and throat hair

The Characteristics Of Happiness And Happiness
The beautiful smile. The joyous laugh. The smiling eyes. The high pitched voice. All describe the
characteristics of one being happy. Benjamin Franklin once stated money has never made man
happy, nor will it, there is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more of it one has the
more one wants. . In turn that quote has been a center of debates for centuries. Conversing over the
debatable topic in which happinessdoes or does not extend from money. In a society such as the
twentieth century, happiness is evidently reflected by wealth. Therefore, happiness is influenced by
the amount of wealth that corresponds to the way one uses their money.
Money.
Different sizes , weights, colors, and made of different materials. Throughout the world money
varies country to country. It allows people to posses luxurious homes and cars, as well as security.
Used to pay for a variety of things that extend from lunch bills to plane tickets.
Having money creates a life with less worry. In society today, having a high paying job is a social
norm. The convenience of being able to acquire anything whether it be traveling to Paris,
Zavala 2
France or paying for your own full ride for Harvard. With money, the idea of not being able to
afford anything is far from mind. Buying family tickets to enjoy the World Series games and not
caring of the price is evident that money can bring happiness to one s life. Living life without
limitations enhances a person to live with experience and adventure . Not having to fret over
debts or not being able to travel are some peculiar positive outcomes of having money. Money
aids in relieving stress created by pondering on being able to afford desires. Back then, living life
subtly was the normality, but now in the twentieth century, living life lavishly is seen all around.
To be able to partake in such lifestyle one needs a good amount of wealth to cover necessities as
well as extravagant desires. Fashion icon Kendall Jenner, showcases what living life with
abundance of money can do. The lavish life is reflected to a life of happiness.
Money brings people together. Extended families need the money to be able to reunite with one

What Does Functionalism Mean In The Maze Runner
According to Naiman (2012), functionalism is a sociological framework that compares society to an
organism with interrelated and important parts that lead to the collective entity of society. Each
element is considered to have an equally important function within society that ensures its survival
(Naiman, 2012). In order to do so, all of the interconnected parts of society must work together in
harmony (Naiman, 2012). However, it is also important to note that while certain functional
elements within society, such as war, can be beneficial they are by no means inevitable or ideal to
the individuals within the society (Naiman, 2012). In the film The Maze Runner, we see the
concept of functionalismappear at the start of the film (Goldsmith Vein,

The purpose of laryngectomy is to remove tumor or cancerous tissues. It is done when the larynx
is badly damaged or when cancer has advanced. Often, if the cancer has spread, other surrounding
structures in the neck, such as lymph nodes, are removed at the same time. Partial laryngectomies
are done when cancer is limited in one area of which the tumor is located, will be removed. Also
laryngectomy is performed because cancer treatment option, such as radiation or chemotherapy has
failed. (Gale Encyclopedia of medicine. 2008). Nurses play a critical role in patient education
throughout the entire spectrum of healthcare. Nursing care of people who have a total
laryngectomy starts in the pre operative period with patient education and continues after discharge
with follow up care. The nurse patient relationship begins in the outpatient setting, where the nurse
performs a complete head and neck assessment and comprehensive review of the patient s past
medical and social history. (Cheryl Bressler, MSN, RN). First, to start the process of preop care,
making sure the patient had a restriction of foods and liquids at least six to nine hours before the
surgery. The nurse would make sure the patient signed a consent form after thoroughly explaining
the procedure. A

The Pros And Cons Of A Republican Party
A Republican is a person who is involved with or supports the Republican Party. They support the
ideals that the party holds in its party platform. Their party platform includes restoring the American
Dream, reforming the Federal government, renewing American values, and abiding by the
Constitution to fix the country. Some party planks include cutting government spending, making a
Federal State partnership to create jobs, reform the tax code, and organizing space missions and
programs. A Republican is usually more conservative, which means that they most likely
disapprove gun control, oppose abortion, and disagree with same sex marriage. They believe in a
limited government, helping the debt crisis, in a private sector to create jobs, and strict
interpretation of the Constitution. They feel that government should not interfere with the public
affairs unless a dire need arises.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz, Jeb Bush, and John Kasich. While I am not a Republican, I tried to

Urban Real Estate Economics And Juxtaposes Them With...
THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
This paper discusses and analyses modern theories of urban real estate economics and juxtaposes
them with traditional theories. In earlier times, city life used to revolve around a central business
district (CBD) which was the nerve centre of all economic, social and cultural activity. As a result,
real estate prices reflected the proximity of the site to the CBD and they dropped the further one
went from it. The dichotomy is often expressed through architecture, with high rise apartment
buildings in the city and low rise developments further out. Alonso, 1964; Mills, 1972 and Muth,
1969 mulled on this model of cities and viewed real estate economic data and ran studies through
the lens of a monocentric urban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is based on the law of diminishing returns that over time, produce from a certain land parcel
will decline in quantity and quality, yielding lower and lower profits, while at the same time,
pressure on the land in the form of population will always rise. As it is the amount paid by the
lessee for the indestructible powers of the land, different parcels with different fertility capacities
will command different rents. As the amount of land is finite, the cost of production will also keep
rising. Applying this theory to urban real estate, a monocentric city would have finite space for
development due to which costs of construction will rise, passing on the burden to the buyer.
Von Thunen, on the other hand, concerned himself with location and transportation costs in
addition to fertility as factors determining price. He attributed differential rents to distances between
places with desirable qualities and the costs of transporting oneself between them. At its most basic,
the theory stands for the hypothesis that without the need for proximity and the price (rent) charged
for it, land would be an almost free good.
For two residential locations to have near identical prices, not only must they be located close to
each other, but they must also provide the same level of utility to residents. This is because the
decisions of location

The Importance Of Critical Thinking In Nursing
This paper aims to examine the etiology, evidence of lack of utilization of critical thinking, the legal
ramifications, Federal regulations, and the strategies that can be applied to boost the utilization of
critical thinking in the clinical setting. The paper acknowledges that critical thinking is a key
element in healthcare settings and that it should be one of the required core competencies in
nursing. Analysis of studies illustrates that nurses lack adequate critical thinking skills, as indicated
by their performance in CTS tests. Some of the legal ramifications in nursing include the risk of
being sued, for malpractice, professional and ethical misconduct and negligence. The federal
regulations including the Privacy Act (1974) guide how information of the patients should be
handled. To improve critical thinking skills among nurses, it is crucial to integrate critical thinking
skills into the teaching curriculum. Etiology The complexity of healthcare is increasing, so is the
accountability of the nurses to increase hence critical thinking is becoming an important skill in the
classroom, boardroom, and the bedside. Evidence based nursing solely relies on critical thinking
features that are essential for providing an objective, and goal oriented methodology for practice
(Papathanasiou et al., 2014). The skills that are integral to nursing practice include analyzing,

What stands out more in this version is how the viewer sees more of the members and their
distaste for Shi On along with their desire for him to fail. When Shi On is first introduced to the
group of people he will be working with the board member there yells at Shi On for just being
him. Both The Good Doctor and Good Doctor explore the main characters past and how it helped
shape who they became not just as a person, but as to why they became a doctor. In The Good
Doctor, Shawn faced a lot of abuse from his father when he was growing up. His younger
brother, Steve, and mother would try their best to stop the father. Shawn s father was not the
only one being abusive; the neighborhood kids would beat him up as well, and make fun of
him. Steve took care of Shawn even though he was younger than Shawn. The two boys would
run away from home and live in a bus up until Steve s death. Steve s death was one of the reasons
why Shawn became a doctor. In Good Doctor, Shi On s past is much like Shawn s in the remake,
but there are some differences. Like Shawn, Shi On had an abusive father, but caring mother and
brother. Shi On and his brother, Yi On, ran away to live on their own, and Yi On ends up dying.

Gender Stereotypes in Othello Essay
Stereotypes are commonly held generalized beliefs that most or all individuals sharing a given
trait also should or do share other attributes assumed to be associated with aspects such as race,
religion, and physical attribute. While stereotypes can erroneously shape people s views of others,
they can also influence the stereotyped individuals behavior as people often attempt to conform to
these flawed images, especially in regards to genderstereotypes. Shakespeare s great play Othello
uses its main characters to embody the characteristics of the stereotypical females and males
according to society s liking. The stereotypical woman is loyal and faithful to her husband, while
the male stereotype possesses strength, control, and dominance.... Show more content on

Shakespeare mocks society s extreme measures by suggesting death as the sole option for Othello
when he fails to understand that Desdemona may not fit female stereotypes. Without the ability to
label her, Othello fails to assert Desdemona s chastity and corruptibility simultaneously and murders
Desdemona to redeem her from degradation (Neely). The characters, like many people, struggle to
alter views that have been so firmly pressed into their minds. In this way, Shakespeare negatively
comments on humans inabilities to see beyond what society tells them and to comprehend truths
unique to a specific person rather than his gender roles. Shakespeare uses the characters
Desdemona and Othello to display how people become accustomed to the gender identities that
society defines for them. Therefore, both characters, as depicted by their deaths, fail to understand
each other personally as individuals instead of as the stereotypical man or woman that is being
presented.
Although misperceptions about the other gender are dangerous causes of downfall, flawed views
among one s own gender are also great contributors to destruction. Othello and Desdemona best
exemplify this notion. Desdemona presents herself as pure, compassionate, and understanding
towards everyone, especially Othello. Shakespeare theorizes on how some women believe the
stereotype about females is valid and must be followed, and men can exhibit the same

Title Search, what s in a name?
A title search is a way to prove who is selling the property and if they really have the right to sell
it. It s important for the buyer as it ensures and confirms what is being bought and
HSH 5 sold. Performing the title search is a part of most real estate transactions. There are steps
involved in a title search that examine the different pieces needed to prove ownership and allow
for the sale of property. Steps of researching and verifying chain of title, taxes, possession reports,
judgment, name searches and commitment are used to navigate the title search and verification.
These steps are not involved in renting and therefor can act as another motivation in favor of
buying with a sense of security instead of gambling on the landlords/companies word that the
property is theirs to offer.
When these searches have been completed, and the financial outcomes have been weighed the time
to decide whether to rent or buy awaits.

Who Is Montag A Hero In Fahrenheit 451
There are 129, 864, 880 books in the world. Now imagine if there were zero. In Ray Bradbury s
Fahrenheit 451, this is precisely the goal of firemen and the majority of society. Guy Montag has
been a fireman for ten years, and he has always gotten a certain thrill from starting fires to burn
houses containing books to the ground. Then Clarisse McClellan comes along and changes his
perspective on everything. She says that firemen did not always use to start fires; they used to put
them out, and people were not afraid. I like to smell things and look at things, and sometimes stay
up all night, walking, and watch the sun rise (Bradbury 7). Clarisse questions his happiness, and
Montag cannot answer confidently that he is fully happy with his life.... Show more content on

individuality and making a difference despite dealing with his mind blocked co workers who
quickly target him as the outsider and turn the Mechanical Hound loose on him. There must be
something in books, things we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there
must be something there. You don t stay for nothing (Bradbury 51). He develops a plan with
Faber, a man who remembers what the world was like before firemen began burning books. This
plan just might be the key to regaining the people s rights and restoring books to their rightful
place in society. Firemen eliminated the people s ability to express one s own opinion when they
eradicated books and free knowledge from the world. In Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury explores this

Life and Presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Franklin Delano Roosevelt once said, The only thing we have to fear is fear itself
(BrainyQuote). Being the 32nd president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was one of the most
successful and most liked United States presidents of all time. When Roosevelt was on campaign
for presidency he promised to help the economy and the needy. Being in the midsts of the Great
Depression, his promise to get people and the economy back on their feet greatly helped him
achieve office(Burns). During his presidency, Roosevelt led the United States through the worst
crises of the century, The Great Depression and World War II (Britannica School). Roosevelt was

This system is still being used today. (Britannica School). The final factor that got the United
Stated out of the Great Depression was World War II. At the start of the war, Roosevelt and
Congress created the Lend Lease Act which provided aid to Britain, U.S.S.R, and other countries
fighting against the Germans and the axis in the war. When the United States entered World War
II in face to face combat, many factories started mass producing materials for the war and the
government bought the supplies and equipment, boosting the economy. Eventually, the United
States came out of the Great Depression from Roosevelt s plans and from the government
buying supplies for the war(Britannica School). These were many of the reasons why Roosevelt
was the most significant person of the 20th century. Roosevelt successfully helped us get out of
the depression, but as the United States came out of a financial crisis a new problem that
Roosevelt had to handle started to emerge, World War II. As the war started, the United States
stayed out of it for the time being. However, while we weren t directly fighting in face to face
combat, we did provide aid to Britain and the U.S.S.R. The help the United States provided was not
only military supplies, but also protection. When we were providing protection, the Navy sent
convoys to protect the supply ships. Sometimes the

What Is The Role Of Religion In The Catholic Church
Unlike the Protestant Church, the Catholic Church practices all of the sacraments throughout the
human life cycle. The Church believes that the sacraments guide the soul to salvation and help
believers to achieve grace from Christ. They teach that Christ is actively present during the
ceremonies of the sacraments. The sacraments of the Catholic Church originated from Christ and
his teachings. Baptismis the new member of the Church participating in Jesus ultimate sacrifice
when he died for our sins and made it possible to be saved by Christ. It acts as the gateway to the
other sacraments. Through Baptism, the Church teaches that we are freed from sin and born
again as children of Christ. In Lectures in Systematic Theology, by Henry Thiessen, he quotes
Clarkson to explain that a person receives Sanctifying Grace, which, is known as sacramental
grace inasmuch as it carries with it a right to the supernatural helps necessary and useful for the
accomplishment of the purpose of each sacrament . This grace ensures the passage to heaven; in
being baptized you are brought to the eyes of God and he sees the individual as a member of the
Church. In early adolescent years the sacrament of Confirmation takes place to confirm faith in
Christ. Confirmation adds to the grace you receive at Baptism. In the Catholic Church, it s
customary for infants to be baptized in order to ensure their passage to heaven. Baptisms usually
take place on Sundays during Mass. Typically, Children are baptized with Holy water and oils
on the head and not fully submerged. Those being baptized traditionally wear white clothing to
symbolize their faith and the renewing power of the ceremony itself. Godparents are also a
tradition that the Catholic Church upholds. The baptized child or person will have a godparent
of each gender, often times members of the extended family or close friends of the parents. The
original role of the godparent was to take care of the child if it was orphaned, but now the role is
primarily to set a good Christian role model for the new member. The majority of Protestant
churches only require faith in Christ to become a member. The Church encourages the Baptism of
adults because they can understand and pledge

Analysis Of The Sun Also Rises By Jake Barnes
The San Fermin Festival is a central point to The Sun Also Rises because it is where the climax is
reached in determining the maturation of Jake Barnes. The San Fermin Festival takes part every
year in Pamplona, Spain and consists of parties and bullfighting for a week. T. Peter Hays article,
Hunting Ritual in The Sun Also Rises, shows Hays belief The Sun Also Rises, and the San Fermin
Festival in the book, shows religious virtues instilled in the character of Jake Barnes. Although
the San Fermin Festival was originally a religious event, it has now become paganized like
many other festivals or holidays. The effect the war has had on Jake Barnes and other characters
caused them to reject religion; therefore, the purpose of The Sun Also Rises is not meant to
parallel the Catholic Church or exhibit religious virtues. World War I was the first time the
world witnessed the abhorrent crimes man is capable of. Jake Barnes witnessed these events
while he was in the war. Not much is said about specific atrocities Jake witnessed, but this silence
was not uncommon amongst veterans. It is Count Mippipopolous who sheds light upon war
experience. My dear, I am sure Mr. Barnes has seen a lot. Don t think I don t think so, sir. I have
seen a lot, too (Hemingway, 1926, p. 60). When the Count says this, it shows that Jake also must
have witnessed much in the war. Jake is very closed off while talking about his war experience
because of the inhumane things man committed in the war. The war caused many to reject
religious philosophies because people could not believe a just God would allow man to behave
so cruelly to one another. Jake could not cope with what the war did to men, especially himself.
Jake s wound left him impotent and took away his ability to have an intimate relationship with a
woman. Jake claims to be a Catholic, but after all that has happened to him, and all that he has
seen, he cannot believe with Catholicism like those around him. While Bill and Jake were on the
train to Burgeune they are accompanied by a Catholic family. This is where we learn Jake is a
Catholic, but cannot sympathize with other Catholics. It s a pity you boys ain t Catholics. You
could get a meal, then, alright. I am, I

Nursing Care
Introduction P.R. is a 34 year old male from Guatemala who went to a lake for cliff diving. He
dove off of a cliff 20 feet from the water, hitting a rock, and fractured his neck at C6. This left
P.R. as an incomplete quadriplegic, with partial gross movement of his upper arms. P.R. is able
to move his shoulders to slightly lift his arms, but has no movements in his legs or the trunk. P.R.
requires total assistance for all activities of daily living, and is incontinent of both bowel and
bladder function. He speaks primarily Spanish and cannot communicate in English. He is verbally
abusive and becomes combative with care givers. He does not have family support in America and
is having difficulty adapting to American foods. P.R. has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which impedes healing of the pressure ulcers (Myers, 2012). Last but not least, he has sexual
dysfunction that can be detrimental to his psychosocial well being. He is physically unable to
achieve erection and orgasm. Appendix A is provided at the end of the paper to show an example
of nursing care plan for physiological issues.
Psychosocial Issues Spinal cord injury is a sudden and devastating event for patients. The injury can
be extremely debilitating and it may require a significant alteration in lifestyle post injury. P.R. has
sustained a relatively high level (C6) spinal cord injury, which makes him very limited functional
capacity. He will go through grieving process followed by anger for the loss of function and
independence. This may be especially difficult for P.R. because he is a young man in his thirties
who sustained a debilitating injury in a foreign country without any support from family and
friends. Spinal cord injury has left P.R. unable to move his entire lower extremities and trunk
muscles. He is unable to do the most basic activities, such as feeding and bowel movement without
the help of a caregiver. For a young man who was active and completely independent, it is very
difficult to accept this reality. It should also be noted that most of the nursing staff are females,
which further damages his male ego for having total dependence.

The three sources to be compared are all in relation to the events that occurred on Black Friday ,
particularly surrounding the conduct of the metropolitan police. Source 10, taken from The Times
newspaper presents the view that the police were more victims of the women and raiders that they
were trying to control, and that it took some effort to restrain the women that were protesting on

Source 11 on the other hand disagrees with the view presented in source source 10. It is an
extract from a memorandum by the Parliamentary Conciliation Committee for Women s
Suffrage send to the Home Office after Black Friday . It agrees with the source ten in the sense
that it admits a relentless struggle occurred between the police and the suffragettes, but it
disagrees with source 10 because it presents the view that it was the police acting violently
towards the women, who it says were flung hither and thither amid moving traffic, and into the
hands of a crows which was sometimes rough and indecent . This opinion is presented because
the purpose of the memorandum sent to the home office was to request a public inquiry into the
conduct of the police on Black Friday , because they did not follow their usual course of action
which would have been to arrest the women on a charge of obstruction but they had been
instructed to avoid, as far as possible, making any arrests which is why, the women argue that the
police were so violent. Also, this

Reflection Paper On Service Learning
My service Learning Project I had the opportunity to volunteer with Health Sciences Charter High
School which is a local school that academically challenges the learning environment preparing
them to communicate effectively, think and reason critically, value diversity, in which is founded
by local healthcare industry and strive for their students to become productive and valued members
of the community. The school is located in a generally low income neighborhood and children in

Service learning is a lot more than helping someone for the sake of it, it is a process of involving
yourself in community service activities engaging and learning while combined with facilitated
means by being able to apply the experience to academic and personal development. A good service
learning partnership is mutually beneficial, with both the learning goals of the course and the needs

importance of culturally relevant teachers along with role models students are able to talk to

the social relations of gender, questioning the validity of roles that have been ascribed to both
women and men in different societies . In many societies women have been systematically
instilled to be inferior to men and have been assigned secondary role. GAD emerged to examine
these social constructions. (Parpart et.al 2000) State that GAD approach argued that women s

The Legalization Of The Penny In Today s Society
The penny was first legalised by the Coinage Act of 1864. But was not printed until 1906 when
Abraham Lincoln was the first historical figures portrayed on a United States coin. Back when
pennies were first made, the value of the penny was extremely high. But since the time that the
penny was first introduced to now, prices have risen by the extreme. With other coinsand even
dollar bills now, the penny is less likely to be used, except for change. The production of the
penny needs to be ended because it costs more to make than it is worth, it is a hassle to use and it
useless in today s society. The product of the penny cost more to produce than its own worth. The
cost of making the pennies (1.26 cents each) is higher than face value... (about.com). The United
States Mint company is actually losing moneywhen sending pennies out to different companies
and places. The government is losing around 53 million dollars every year by producing the penny,

Pennies are so worthless to us that people throw them away! People are throwing away money. If

Memorable Moment Short Story
Memorable Moment Let us go, please. I yelled. Ok where do you want to go? Mom asked. To the

food. While I opened the freezer, I saw all of the frost on the ice container and I saw fog come
out of the freezer. As my face got cooled I tried to get the ice container I put both arms in the
freezer and reached and reached. As I kept on reaching I felt all of the cold air go on my arms all

heard my mom pull in into the driveway and into the garage I took of my headphones and packed
the cooler into the enormous trunk. While my sister was getting buckled into her carseat I got hers

later we have arrived at the lake. As I stepped out of the car I could feel the blazing hot concrete. I
ran to the cool relaxing water. My mom took out the towels and the cooler out of the car and set
our spot up on the smooth, dry, and crunchy sand. As my 2 year old sister got her princess floaties

As I got to the top I got nervous, at that very moment somebody did a belly flop. While they did the

Memories Of My Life
My childhood is full of many fond memories. When I think back to some of the earliest times, I
can only remember tiny sparks and flickers of certain moments. However, at a certain age, I
began to more vividly remember events in my life. The first family vacation I can fully recall was a
trip my family took to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. When I found out about the trip it was
Christmas morning. My brother and I each got an envelope, which encased tickets to Disney
World. I was ecstatic to go to Disney World because it was a childhood dream come true for me!
When the day of the trip arrived, we stuffed all of our luggage into the back of our minivan and
began our trip to the airport in Charlottesville, Virginia. We waited three long hours for our flight
to leave Charlotteville, but we finally got onto the plane. I had a feeling of butterflies in my
stomach as I waited for the plane to take off. I sat next to my dad, and he held my hand to take
away the nerves. From above the clouds, everything looked miniature, and I remember feeling
like a giant. We flew from Charlottesville, Virginia to Charlotte, North Carolina. At the airport in
Charlotte, our flight to Orlando was delayed. We waited an eternity, and I wasn t surprised to
find that it was dark outside when we boarded our plane. We flew through a small city in Georgia,
and all of the lights resembled a cluster of glowing stars. We reached Orlando, Florida around

Growing Up Explored in Banana Yoshimoto s Kitchen
The first time I read Kitchen, I knew I was experiencing something very special. Not since my
initial reading of Catcher in the Rye have I witnessed such a perceptive look at the joys and pains
of growing up. These coming of age novels capture our attention with plots that, while twisting and
turning in creative, off beat ways, remain believable. The writers of these novels tell us their stories
with a subtle style more exciting than that of textbooks and assigned reading, a style not unlike a
good one sided conversation. Finally, within this great style of writing, the authors infuse honest

Later, when Mikage recounts the time Eriko shared with her the importance of a particular

words are actually moving when you have already learned the meaning Eriko placed on the plant.
Yoshimoto arranges unique scenarios such as these in expressive ways that, in the hands of less
talented authors, would otherwise appear simply ridiculous. She touches young adults because she
is able to bring realism to these strange stories.
Once the reader has accepted her unique storyline, he is drawn to her subtle writing style. There
is no doubt that Yoshimoto is proficient at setting the scene. Chilled looking people walking along
the riverside, the snow beginning, faintly, to pile up on the roofs of cars, the bare trees shaking
their heads left and right, dry leaves tossing in the wind (p. 103). At times, the Japanese life she
describes seems familiar. What is more important in a coming of age

Effects Of Matrix Stiffness On Primary Pancreatic Cancer...
3. Results (620 current730)
3.1 Softer substrate regulates proliferation of primary pancreatic cancer cells
To study the effects of matrix stiffness on primary pancreatic cell proliferation, we first
developed a 2D hydrogel system with stiffness (SSM) that mimic those of healthy pancreatic
tissue and cancerous pancreas previously characterized. Briefly, the cancerous pancreatic tissue
had a larger range of SSM (2kPa 30kPa) and a higher average SSM than normal tissue (0.8 4 kPa).
Consequently, to account for the variability of stiffness on cancerous tissue, our model included
two groups of PA hydrogels with Acrylamide:Bisacrylamide (Ac:Bis) ratios of: (1) 6%:0.075% and
(2) 10%:0.075% 25kPa yielding an average SSM of 8kPa and 25kPa ... Show more content on

We examined the viability of the cells in response to the chemotherapeutic as a function of the
matrix stiffness (Figure 2C). We observed that as the cells underwent apoptosis they detached from
the substrates. Consequently, we collected the media before (Day 7) and after (Day 10) the
chemotherapy to quantify the number of cells in suspension. As depicted on Figure 2C, the PC
cells cultured on softer substrates experience larger increase in dead cells resulting from the
chemotherapy compared to the PC cells growing on stiffer substrates. As Figure 2A shows, both
Gemcitabine concentrations lead to a change in cell morphology and a higher decrease in cell area
on the softer PC tumors (3kPa and 8kPa) compared to the stiffer PC tumors (25kPa and control
group).
To further explore the effect of matrix stiffness on the response of PC cells to chemotherapy, we
used enzymatic activity as a metric of cell proliferation. We perform alamarBlueВ® assay before
adding the Gemcitabine treatment and after 72hrs of treatment. As depicted in Figure 2B, there
is a dramatic (x x for 2um and xx for 5uM) decrease of the enzymatic activity of the PC cells
growing on softer substrates in response to the chemotherapy. On the other hand, the PC cells
growing on stiffer matrices shows no decrease of enzymatic activity when treated with 2 ВµM of
Gemcitabine and a xx when treated with 5ВµM of

Women Entrepreneurs And Social Incubators
CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
In this chapter literature on women entrepreneurs and social incubators is discussed. It also
explains the conceptual framework and conceptual map of the study..
2.1 Concept of Women Entrepreneur
Women or a group of women who initiate, organize and operates a business enterprise is defined as
Women Entrepreneurs . The Government of India has defined women entrepreneurs as an
enterprise owned and controlled by women having a minimum financial interest of 51 per cent of
the capital and giving at least 51 per cent of the employment generated in the enterprise to women.
Women Entrepreneur is a person who accepts challenging role to meet her personal needs and
become economically independent (Meenu Goyal and Jai Prakash, 2011, pp. [Gibve the page
number.]). In India, these entrepreneurs are part of the larger sustainable development strategy
employed by the policymakers. Evidence shows that Women entrepreneurship has already
contributed to the economic growth across the world and women led enterprises are increasing in
every country. These enterprises also created a large number of job opportunities in their respective
economies. Apart from this, these enterprises also created new business solutions for the pressing
social problems.Further in whole enterprises scenario, number of enterprises owned by women is
very less compared to men. Government of India has implemented various schemes for
development of such enterprises but impact is yet to be

Tomboy: A Real Phenomenon or a Social Construct I was adopted at the age of 13. I was so
consumed to make my new family happy that I did everything I could to try and make them
happy. One thing that they seemed especially involved in was the game of hockey. Both of my
brothers played it and so did my little sister. All of them had started by the time they turned three.
So, when I joined the family, I also joined them in their love for the sport. Despite being years
behind in experience with other kids my age, I quickly picked up on the game(thanks to my
brothers and dad). It wasn t until freshman year that things begin to get complicated. There was no
girl s hockey team, so being stubborn like I am, I joined the boys high schoolhockey team.

Prison Reform And The Prison System
Prison reform is a significant issue that the United States government should enforce. It would aid
in creating a more organized system of incarceration. Prison reform is an attempt to improve,
change, or eliminate certain conditions in prisons. It is believed that it should be enforced due to
the cases of overcrowding, lack of proper education, and the lack of rehabilitation that could inform
prisoners of societal values. Prisonreform would increase the self esteem that was diminished in
the prisoner s personal history. Prison reform is significantly important as it will heighten the
amount of self worth in the prisoner and cause a decrease in the population of prisoners who
return to a life of crime. Recidivism, or chance of recommitting a crime, will therefore be
reduced. Prisoner who are released will not have all the negative ideals or influence from the
prison that is usually spread until their release. Prison reform will help society if the increase in
education and decrease in overcrowding is ensued upon the prison system with this policy.
As prisoners are considered a disparaged minority, the impact of the correctional facility structure
on society is huge. It s clear that the correctional facility system is an impression of our control of
law, yet it in like manner really impacts the communities that prisoners are removed from and
where they go back to. Regardless that prisoners are a disdained minority, the impact of the
correctional facility structure on society

Information is, in fact, our most precious resource. In such a world, education should empower
everyone, not the few. But for information to become knowledge, and ultimately, one hopes,
wisdom, it must be organized. In this new climate, the public interest challenge, beyond access and
equity is sorting and selection (Boyer, 1997, p. 140). We are outfitting our schools, libraries, and
homes with electronic technologies. But are we preparing students for the onslaught of information
that is provided by these technologies. What happens when students get more information from the
internet and than previously conveyed by their teachers or textbooks? What should a student do
when faced with so many informational possibilities? This is where information literacy establishes
it s important thus, they need to understand and differentiate between types of information. They
must define the need of the information and relating it to knowledge. These are all the
implementation of information literacy which benefits students during their study time.
Furthermore, they will not be panic once get an abundant supply of information, because they are
already exposed to the method on how to manage such information. Hence, they will solve the

Robert Louis Stevenson Moral Obligation
For Stevenson moral disagreement is basically a disagreement in attitudes but often this
disagreement includes a disagreement in beliefs. Disagreements in beliefs can be solved with
knowledge and referring to empirical evidence but that is not the case for disagreements in
attitudes. Such a disagreements persists as long as any of the parties retains an attitude that is
contrary to the other.
In my opinion saying that expressivism basically claims that ethical statements express just
exclamative and imperative sentences like Hurra! or Be kind , is not a fair description of it.
Dreier intend to show that Stevenson s thesis, expressivism, fail to give an accurate account of
disagreement because they basically repeat the contextualist s fault. In my opinion Dreier s
argument does not succeed and it mixed what seems to be an ambiguity of linguistics with an
ambiguity of the mental states. A reconsidered version of Gibbard s hyperplan could be used to
solve the problem.
Realists consider that moral claims do report facts and that their truth or falsehood, at least in some
cases, can be determined. Anti realists like Stevenson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The questions discussed above lead, in my opinion, to the capital question of the purpose of moral.
I consider that Stevenson s main contribution with the inclusion of attitudes is to facilitate the
understanding of the aim of morality. Contrasting attitudes cannot be solved until one party accept
the other s attitude. The implication of this is clear, moral disagreement tends to create common
attitudes about certain aspects of the world, e.g. stealing or murder. It is not the case of to establish
the truth or falsehood of certain moral claims. It is a question of establishing in common attitudes.
This in common attitudes became a moral norm in the group or society. If this is true an interaction
between individuals, directly or indirectly, is a necessary condition for moral

The Importance of Prison Reform Essay
In this world we live in many feel that prisons exist to punish, not counsel, offenders. That may be
true that Prisons exist for punishment, but they also have an important contribution to make to
reducing re offending by engaging prisoners in rehabilitation programs and purposeful work.
Society is flawed in its thinking that by putting criminals in a place away from society we would
be better off. To make it worse I am sure that more that 60 percent of Americans are against social
reform because they have made up their mind that once a crook, always a crook. This is flawed
mainly because it seems to assume that showing people that what they ve done is wrong will
always accomplish something, that punishing those who commit crimes... Show more content on

Prison life can be harsh, and time spent in a isolation is even worse. A majority of those in prison
spend countless hours in idleness. It would be much better if they used that time to reeducate
themselves for a productive life on the outside. Some of the prisoners have serious emotional and
mental problems that are never addressed and it is illogical to not attempt to correct these problems
before they are released.
There are even worse scenarios that exist in today s prisons. The prison guards have little control
and prison can be a violent place because again it is not a place that specializes in rehab. On
television shows you see inmates stabbing each other and are quick to assume that it is a
dramatization, but it really an occurrence that happens often, in prisons all over the world for
that matter. In an article by Raphael Rowe he writes about how a part of him died in prison, and
he had to be on his guard constantly, Once, I was sitting in the television room watching football
when someone I knew came in and told me to leave the room. I didn t ask questions: I just left
and stood outside. A few seconds later, three other guys came running past me, pillow cases with
eye holes cut out over their heads, carrying a huge cooking pot full of hot oil. I heard the screams
long before some young black guy a sex offender came running out, his skin dripping from his face.
Such horrid tales should let the general public know that we need to reevaluate

How Did Robin Williams Shaped American Culture
Juliane Baur
US History
Period 3
Rough Draft
Robin McLaurin Williams was a remarkable person who shaped the american culture as an actor
and comedian. A lot of people see him as an idol. He was born on 21st July 1951 in Chicago,
Ilinois. He grew up in wealthy conditions as the only child of Laura McLaurin, a founder of a
modeling agency and Robert Fitzgerald who was a senior employee at Ford. He spent most of his
childhood in different places due to his father s profession before the family finally settled in Marin
County.
Robin Williams was bullied badly during his childhood for being chubby. Therefore he spent a lot
of his time playing alone in the family s large home to avoid his tormentors. Eventually, he
conquered his overweight label by joining the wrestling and tracks teams. That s when he realised
that he could make the other children laugh as a way of gaining respect from them.
His father took early retirement when Robin Williams was 16. That is when they moved to
California where he finished his education at Redwood High School. Up to this point, he had
already been noticed for his flair in entertaining people, a natural talent.
After graduation in 1969, Robin Williams attended Claremont Men s College to learn more about

Examples Of Danforth In The Crucible
Them that will not confess will hang (Miller 1324). Danforth, the main judge says this during the
play, The Crucible, to explain that those who are accused of witchcraft will be hanged if they do
not confess. During this moment in the play Danforth already demanded twelve people to be
hanged. Danforth killed twelve innocent people total. Danforth and the rest of the judges carry the
blame for the hangings in Salem during the witch trials because they only believe in the victims
causing the victims to not tell the truth and resulting in the deaths of many innocent people.
Danforth only believes in what the victims have to say, not the people being accused of witchcraft.
When Danforth is telling the others why he believes in the girls during court he explains that The
witch and the victim. None other. Now we cannot hope the witch will accuse herself; granted?
Therefore, we must rely on her victims and they do testify, the children certainly do testify (Miller
1301). Danforth is saying the girls wouldn t lie because they are the victims. Danforth doesn t see
that the victims could lie. He knows the witch will not accuse herself.... Show more content on

This is reverse order is a better match with the schematic representation of MCS (Figure 1) as well
as the pervasive impact culture and structure has on the core control system. This echoes Flamholtz
statement that culture is the starting point of designing the MCS .
Conclusion: As such, the MCS should have been initially detailed using this reverse order for
consistent presentation as well as acting as a catalyst to the planning subsystem of the core control
system. In doing so, goals can be set in accordance to the company culture and structure. This
enables management to influence the behaviour of more employees by providing clear goals. This
makes for a better feedback system because it includes the information of the various departments

of unrealistic goals, MBO, and the likelihood of fraudulent reporting. To further prevent fraudulent
reporting, the measurement subsystem should rely equally on the accounting system as well as non
financial measures (balanced score card).

What Is The Theme Of The Green Mile
Stephen King and his story, the green mile
Stephen King is a world known author who writes horror/psychological fiction. As a boy, he was
interested in horror books. He wrote some stories himself, just for fun, and he never stopped. In
1996 he published the green mile, (a movie was made later on).
The story is about the John Coffey and his execution in E block at Cold Mountain State
Penitentiary. Hal Moores is the warden of the penitentiary, his wife is very sick. Paul Edgecomb
is the head of E block and a friend of Moores. E block is where they keep the death row prisoners
and perform capital punishment. One day Paul receives a prisoner who supposedly raped and killed

raped and murdered a young girl, started a fire to cover it up, which resulted in multiple deaths.

John Coffey was convicted of the rape and murder of two tiny farm girls. He is as big as a giant,
but he isn t scary. Unexpectedly the man is scared of the dark and holds magical powers. He
makes many friends on E block, they are fascinated by his magic and kindness. John gave some of
his magic to Paul and Mr. Jingles causing them both to live an unnaturally long life. At his
execution Paul shook his hand one last time.
The first and most noticeable difference between the movie and book is how the story is told. At
the nursing home Paul has a friend, Elaine. In the movie he tells her what happened because it
upset him. While in the book he writes the story and lets her read it. The book often comes back
to the elderly Paul and sees how he s doing, in the movie we only see him in the beginning and the
end.
For some reason the directors of the movie decided to leave out Janet s death. I think that part was
very important and it helped us understand what Paul has to go through with his long life

A non arbitrary architecture is an architecture incorporate nature and culture to define the life of a

Comparing Frankenstein And 30 s
From the beginning of cinema to the present day, Hollywood has had a morbid fascination with
the dark, shadowy side of society. This is reflected in many films of the past, inherently most
evident in the German expressionistic films of the 1920 s and 30 s. In a sense, society s
fascination with the macabre stems from their fears and anxieties. Thus, allowing filmmakers and
storytellers to toy with their fears and horrify them like a terrible nightmare that comes to life.
Most people in today s society have a fear of the unknown, this can stem from natural factors like
growing old and dying to such terrifying abnormal factors that may be real or not. The boogeyman

M was his first talking picture he ever made and the particular synchronization of diagetic sound
with horrifying suggestive images, made this film very unnerving at the time for the audience.
Although the sound design of the film is very important in suggesting the monstrous, it is the
silence that suggests even more terrible images that penetrate our psyche and imagination. We shall
come back to M in a short while, as I want to shift gears and talk about Frankenstein and synthesize
the two pictures together in a way that will provide us with an understanding of why these two
films are similar in their themes and symbolism. Frankenstein (1931) was directed by James Whale,
who is an English born director from Dudley, England. While World War One broke out, Whale
decided to enlist in the army, he did this hesitantly and this decision almost cost him his life as he
was taken as a prison of war in a Germany prison camp. Thus, this tormented his soul and
therefore, he had an absolute hatred for Germans (Wikipedia). His horror films, particularly
Frankenstein have some interesting sub text encoded onto its mis en scene and narrative that
derive from his experiences in war and his dark experiences in the prison camp. James Whale was
ironically influenced by the German expressionistic movement of the time, particularly, The
Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1919). In my opinion, he adopted this movement because he found the
Germans horrifying and cruel, so he

  • 2. Taking Risks And Trying New Things Taking risks and trying new things is a thrilling moment for me. I can usually pride myself on being adventurous when it comes to trying new food. Either trying a type of cuisine foreign to me or choosing a new restaurant, I can always say that I will try anything at least once. If it is a dish in a restaurant I have never tried before, or something that a family member or friend made, I always think that nothing is so appalling that one bite may kill me. It is an exciting time for me, as I might find a new foodtype that I had never heard of before that will end up becoming a new favorite. Sushi restaurants have been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember. Japanese cuisine is one of my favorites and I cherish every time I get to enjoy a meal at an authentic sushi restaurant. I have always loved the varied aspects of Japanese cuisine, the fresh raw fish, the unique sushi rolls, and the many enticing side dishes. I am always willing to try anything and never seem to find a single dish at a sushi restaurant that I am not fond of. When I moved to Riverside, my family began visiting this one all you can eat sushi restaurant. It was a great environment and an exciting dining experience as you can order and try anything on the menu. This particular sushi restaurant became a fast favorite of mine. One evening however, I would be tested on just how willing I was to trying something strange and new. On my way to the restaurant with my family, we were all eager for a ... • 3. Alfred Adler Motivation When I first learned about Alfred Adler in class, I found him quite relatable. There are some plausible notions that he proposes, but for the most part I could understand how Adler came to the conclusions that he did, as I have experienced his ideas myself. His take on social interest is something I believe every human can relate to. Humans are social animals that seek to create relationships with one another which establishes the social environment we live in. Imagine living in isolation for a year, no contact with any humans whatsoever. I believe that person would become insane. This concept of social interest became very clear to me during my first couple years of college. In high school, I was not the most socially adept person as I was still quite immature. However, once I was came to Biola, it was a refreshing experience to be living independently without the accompaniment of my parents. I was finally able to be myself and find a solid group of friends that I have desired for since high school. This was a turning point in life, as the importance of friendship became even clearer. Community is not only a psychological need but also a biblical need. The adventures and journeys we went on were always memorable because our bonds we shared with each other grew deeper every time. It developed my identity as a college student and my social skills greatly improved because of it. I find Adler s finalism an interesting perspective concerning our goals in life. To say that ... • 4. The Importance Of The Evolution Of Sexual Selection As a result of sexual selection, many male animals have evolved extraordinary structures, usually used as ornaments for attracting females, or weapons, for fighting mating rivals (Douhard et al., 2017; O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; McCullough and Emlen, 2013; Emlen, 2008). The diversity of these structures is usually extremely high (both intra and interspecifically) and have existed in many animal groups, including extinct trilobites and dinosaurs, to beetles, birds and hoofed mammals (ungulates) found today (O Biren et al., 2017; McCullough et al., 2016; Emlen, 2008; Emlen et al., 2005; Emlen, 2001). Although both ornaments and weapons will increase mating opportunities for males, the mechanisms shaping the evolution of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This bias is likely influenced by the appearance of horns in many female bovid species as well as caribou, the only female cervid to evolve antlers, possibly as anti predator defences, a result of natural selection (McCullough et al., 2016; Stankowich and Caro, 2009; Emlen, 2008; Bro JГёrgensen, 2007). Although investigating beetles, McCullough et al. (2014) determined weapon morphology to be more effective against species typical fighting, with sexual selection through male male competition enhancing horn diversity. Only relatively more recently, have effects of male male competition, within ungulates, to the diversity of horn morphologies received increased attention, despite such studies being present within the field for over 50 years (McCullough et al., 2016; Bro JГёrgensen, 2007; Caro et al., 2003). The evolution of horns within artiodactyls is thought to have arisen independently at least three times, with a change in habitat from closed to open woodland and at a crucial body weight of around 15 18kg, which is thought to influence territorial defence by males (Janis, 1982). As a result, many investigations on horn morphology diversity among male bovids and cervids has been completed to environmental factors, scaling relationships of body mass and social variables that may ... • 5. People, Places, and Events Reflection I attended a student organization and development workshop series which was held on February 4, 2014 at Russell union. The topic for the workshop series was Building an Exclusive Campus and the speaker was Paul Bradley, a worker at the student activities office. This series scheduled to start at 7:00p.m. but it was started some minutes after seven due the lateness of the attendees. I attended this program because I thought it would help melearn about the different organizations on campus, and how to network through socialization which would helpme to easily transition from college into medical school and blend with the others without feeling any different. Thus, to be able to make new friends, get to know people first before judging them, and last but not the least, learn of the many organizations and the important role I can play in them if I become a member to promote the organizations purpose existence. The speaker talked about how to promote an organization by making it open to everyone and not limiting it to a certain group of race, color, religion, gender and so on. By attending this sold series, I learned about how we easily stereotype a person or a group of individuals whom we have never spoken to but easily judge them because of their color, race, or background. The knowledge that I acquired at this event will help me to understand people and their actions especially my patients five years from now when I get into medical school and start working with a ... What Does Functionalism Mean In The Maze Runner According to Naiman (2012), functionalism is a sociological framework that compares society to an organism with interrelated and important parts that lead to the collective entity of society. Each element is considered to have an equally important function within society that ensures its survival (Naiman, 2012). In order to do so, all of the interconnected parts of society must work together in harmony (Naiman, 2012). However, it is also important to note that while certain functional elements within society, such as war, can be beneficial they are by no means inevitable or ideal to the individuals within the society (Naiman, 2012). Partial laryngectomies are done when cancer is limited in one area of which the tumor is located, will be removed. • 12. Urban Real Estate Economics And Juxtaposes Them With... THEORETICAL BACKGROUND This paper discusses and analyses modern theories of urban real estate economics and juxtaposes them with traditional theories. In earlier times, city life used to revolve around a central business district (CBD) which was the nerve centre of all economic, social and cultural activity. As a result, real estate prices reflected the proximity of the site to the CBD and they dropped the further one went from it. The dichotomy is often expressed through architecture, with high rise apartment buildings in the city and low rise developments further out. Alonso, 1964; Mills, 1972 and Muth, 1969 mulled on this model of cities and viewed real estate economic data and ran studies through the lens of a monocentric urban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is based on the law of diminishing returns that over time, produce from a certain land parcel will decline in quantity and quality, yielding lower and lower profits, while at the same time, pressure on the land in the form of population will always rise. As it is the amount paid by the lessee for the indestructible powers of the land, different parcels with different fertility capacities will command different rents. As the amount of land is finite, the cost of production will also keep rising. Applying this theory to urban real estate, a monocentric city would have finite space for development due to which costs of construction will rise, passing on the burden to the buyer. Von Thunen, on the other hand, concerned himself with location and transportation costs in addition to fertility as factors determining price. He attributed differential rents to distances between places with desirable qualities and the costs of transporting oneself between them. At its most basic, the theory stands for the hypothesis that without the need for proximity and the price (rent) charged for it, land would be an almost free good. For two residential locations to have near identical prices, not only must they be located close to each other, but they must also provide the same level of utility to residents. This is because the decisions of location ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Importance Of Critical Thinking In Nursing This paper aims to examine the etiology, evidence of lack of utilization of critical thinking, the legal ramifications, Federal regulations, and the strategies that can be applied to boost the utilization of critical thinking in the clinical setting. The paper acknowledges that critical thinking is a key element in healthcare settings and that it should be one of the required core competencies in nursing. Analysis of studies illustrates that nurses lack adequate critical thinking skills, as indicated by their performance in CTS tests. Some of the legal ramifications in nursing include the risk of being sued, for malpractice, professional and ethical misconduct and negligence. The federal regulations including the Privacy Act (1974) guide how information of the patients should be handled. To improve critical thinking skills among nurses, it is crucial to integrate critical thinking skills into the teaching curriculum. Etiology The complexity of healthcare is increasing, so is the accountability of the nurses to increase hence critical thinking is becoming an important skill in the classroom, boardroom, and the bedside. Evidence based nursing solely relies on critical thinking features that are essential for providing an objective, and goal oriented methodology for practice (Papathanasiou et al., 2014). Both The Good Doctor and Good Doctor explore the main characters past and how it helped shape who they became not just as a person, but as to why they became a doctor. In The Good Doctor, Shawn faced a lot of abuse from his father when he was growing up. His younger brother, Steve, and mother would try their best to stop the father. Shawn s father was not the only one being abusive; the neighborhood kids would beat him up as well, and make fun of him. Steve took care of Shawn even though he was younger than Shawn. The two boys would run away from home and live in a bus up until Steve s death. Steve s death was one of the reasons why Shawn became a doctor. In Good Doctor, Shi On s past is much like Shawn s in the remake, but there are some differences. Like Shawn, Shi On had an abusive father, but caring mother and brother. Shi On and his brother, Yi On, ran away to live on their own, and Yi On ends up dying. • 16. Gender Stereotypes in Othello Essay Stereotypes are commonly held generalized beliefs that most or all individuals sharing a given trait also should or do share other attributes assumed to be associated with aspects such as race, religion, and physical attribute. While stereotypes can erroneously shape people s views of others, they can also influence the stereotyped individuals behavior as people often attempt to conform to these flawed images, especially in regards to genderstereotypes. Shakespeare s great play Othello uses its main characters to embody the characteristics of the stereotypical females and males according to society s liking. The stereotypical woman is loyal and faithful to her husband, while the male stereotype possesses strength, control, and dominance.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakespeare mocks society s extreme measures by suggesting death as the sole option for Othello when he fails to understand that Desdemona may not fit female stereotypes. Without the ability to label her, Othello fails to assert Desdemona s chastity and corruptibility simultaneously and murders Desdemona to redeem her from degradation (Neely). The characters, like many people, struggle to alter views that have been so firmly pressed into their minds. In this way, Shakespeare negatively comments on humans inabilities to see beyond what society tells them and to comprehend truths unique to a specific person rather than his gender roles. Shakespeare uses the characters Desdemona and Othello to display how people become accustomed to the gender identities that society defines for them. Therefore, both characters, as depicted by their deaths, fail to understand each other personally as individuals instead of as the stereotypical man or woman that is being presented. Although misperceptions about the other gender are dangerous causes of downfall, flawed views among one s own gender are also great contributors to destruction. Othello and Desdemona best exemplify this notion. Desdemona presents herself as pure, compassionate, and understanding towards everyone, especially Othello. In Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451, this is precisely the goal of firemen and the majority of society. Guy Montag has been a fireman for ten years, and he has always gotten a certain thrill from starting fires to burn houses containing books to the ground. Then Clarisse McClellan comes along and changes his perspective on everything. She says that firemen did not always use to start fires; they used to put them out, and people were not afraid. • 22. What Is The Role Of Religion In The Catholic Church Unlike the Protestant Church, the Catholic Church practices all of the sacraments throughout the human life cycle. The Church believes that the sacraments guide the soul to salvation and help believers to achieve grace from Christ. They teach that Christ is actively present during the ceremonies of the sacraments. The sacraments of the Catholic Church originated from Christ and his teachings. Baptismis the new member of the Church participating in Jesus ultimate sacrifice when he died for our sins and made it possible to be saved by Christ. It acts as the gateway to the other sacraments. Through Baptism, the Church teaches that we are freed from sin and born again as children of Christ. In Lectures in Systematic Theology, by Henry Thiessen, he quotes Clarkson to explain that a person receives Sanctifying Grace, which, is known as sacramental grace inasmuch as it carries with it a right to the supernatural helps necessary and useful for the accomplishment of the purpose of each sacrament . This grace ensures the passage to heaven; in being baptized you are brought to the eyes of God and he sees the individual as a member of the Church. In early adolescent years the sacrament of Confirmation takes place to confirm faith in Christ. Confirmation adds to the grace you receive at Baptism. In the Catholic Church, it s customary for infants to be baptized in order to ensure their passage to heaven. Baptisms usually take place on Sundays during Mass. Typically, Children are baptized with Holy water and oils on the head and not fully submerged. Those being baptized traditionally wear white clothing to symbolize their faith and the renewing power of the ceremony itself. Godparents are also a tradition that the Catholic Church upholds. The baptized child or person will have a godparent of each gender, often times members of the extended family or close friends of the parents. The original role of the godparent was to take care of the child if it was orphaned, but now the role is primarily to set a good Christian role model for the new member. The majority of Protestant churches only require faith in Christ to become a member. The Church encourages the Baptism of adults because they can understand and pledge ... • 23. Analysis Of The Sun Also Rises By Jake Barnes The San Fermin Festival is a central point to The Sun Also Rises because it is where the climax is reached in determining the maturation of Jake Barnes. The San Fermin Festival takes part every year in Pamplona, Spain and consists of parties and bullfighting for a week. T. Peter Hays article, Hunting Ritual in The Sun Also Rises, shows Hays belief The Sun Also Rises, and the San Fermin Festival in the book, shows religious virtues instilled in the character of Jake Barnes. Although the San Fermin Festival was originally a religious event, it has now become paganized like many other festivals or holidays. The effect the war has had on Jake Barnes and other characters caused them to reject religion; therefore, the purpose of The Sun Also Rises is not meant to parallel the Catholic Church or exhibit religious virtues. World War I was the first time the world witnessed the abhorrent crimes man is capable of. Jake Barnes witnessed these events while he was in the war. Not much is said about specific atrocities Jake witnessed, but this silence was not uncommon amongst veterans. It is Count Mippipopolous who sheds light upon war experience. My dear, I am sure Mr. Barnes has seen a lot. Don t think I don t think so, sir. I have seen a lot, too (Hemingway, 1926, p. 60). When the Count says this, it shows that Jake also must have witnessed much in the war. Jake is very closed off while talking about his war experience because of the inhumane things man committed in the war. The war caused many to reject religious philosophies because people could not believe a just God would allow man to behave so cruelly to one another. Jake could not cope with what the war did to men, especially himself. Jake s wound left him impotent and took away his ability to have an intimate relationship with a woman. Jake claims to be a Catholic, but after all that has happened to him, and all that he has seen, he cannot believe with Catholicism like those around him. • 34. Effects Of Matrix Stiffness On Primary Pancreatic Cancer... 3. Results (620 current730) 3.1 Softer substrate regulates proliferation of primary pancreatic cancer cells To study the effects of matrix stiffness on primary pancreatic cell proliferation, we first developed a 2D hydrogel system with stiffness (SSM) that mimic those of healthy pancreatic tissue and cancerous pancreas previously characterized. Briefly, the cancerous pancreatic tissue had a larger range of SSM (2kPa 30kPa) and a higher average SSM than normal tissue (0.8 4 kPa). Consequently, to account for the variability of stiffness on cancerous tissue, our model included two groups of PA hydrogels with Acrylamide:Bisacrylamide (Ac:Bis) ratios of: (1) 6%:0.075% and (2) 10%:0.075% 25kPa yielding an average SSM of 8kPa and 25kPa ... We observed that as the cells underwent apoptosis they detached from the substrates. Consequently, we collected the media before (Day 7) and after (Day 10) the chemotherapy to quantify the number of cells in suspension. As depicted on Figure 2C, the PC cells cultured on softer substrates experience larger increase in dead cells resulting from the chemotherapy compared to the PC cells growing on stiffer substrates. As Figure 2A shows, both Gemcitabine concentrations lead to a change in cell morphology and a higher decrease in cell area on the softer PC tumors (3kPa and 8kPa) compared to the stiffer PC tumors (25kPa and control group). To further explore the effect of matrix stiffness on the response of PC cells to chemotherapy, we used enzymatic activity as a metric of cell proliferation. We perform alamarBlueВ® assay before adding the Gemcitabine treatment and after 72hrs of treatment. As depicted in Figure 2B, there is a dramatic (x x for 2um and xx for 5uM) decrease of the enzymatic activity of the PC cells growing on softer substrates in response to the chemotherapy. On the other hand, the PC cells growing on stiffer matrices shows no decrease of enzymatic activity when treated with 2 ВµM of Gemcitabine and a xx when treated with 5ВµM of ... • 40. Prison Reform And The Prison System Prison reform is a significant issue that the United States government should enforce. It would aid in creating a more organized system of incarceration. Prison reform is an attempt to improve, change, or eliminate certain conditions in prisons. It is believed that it should be enforced due to the cases of overcrowding, lack of proper education, and the lack of rehabilitation that could inform prisoners of societal values. Prisonreform would increase the self esteem that was diminished in the prisoner s personal history. Prison reform is significantly important as it will heighten the amount of self worth in the prisoner and cause a decrease in the population of prisoners who return to a life of crime. Recidivism, or chance of recommitting a crime, will therefore be reduced. Prisoner who are released will not have all the negative ideals or influence from the prison that is usually spread until their release. Prison reform will help society if the increase in education and decrease in overcrowding is ensued upon the prison system with this policy. As prisoners are considered a disparaged minority, the impact of the correctional facility structure on society is huge. It s clear that the correctional facility system is an impression of our control of law, yet it in like manner really impacts the communities that prisoners are removed from and where they go back to. Disagreements in beliefs can be solved with knowledge and referring to empirical evidence but that is not the case for disagreements in attitudes. Such a disagreements persists as long as any of the parties retains an attitude that is contrary to the other. In my opinion saying that expressivism basically claims that ethical statements express just exclamative and imperative sentences like Hurra! or Be kind , is not a fair description of it. Dreier intend to show that Stevenson s thesis, expressivism, fail to give an accurate account of disagreement because they basically repeat the contextualist s fault. In my opinion Dreier s argument does not succeed and it mixed what seems to be an ambiguity of linguistics with an ambiguity of the mental states. It would be much better if they used that time to reeducate themselves for a productive life on the outside. There are even worse scenarios that exist in today s prisons. The prison guards have little control and prison can be a violent place because again it is not a place that specializes in rehab. On television shows you see inmates stabbing each other and are quick to assume that it is a dramatization, but it really an occurrence that happens often, in prisons all over the world for that matter.
