2. Concept
The film KISS is based on an urban legend in a small village in Staffordshire.
The land was originally the wooded hunting area of the kings of England and has a lot
of history. It is the home of Boscobel House and the āRoyal Oakā, the tree in which
King Charles hid from Oliver Cromwellās Roundhead parliamentarian army.
On each side of the village stands a Convent. To the west is Whiteladies where the
nuns wore white habits and wimpoles. This is now a ruin owned by English Heritage.
To the east was Blackladies, the convent where the nuns wore black. It is now a
private house.
Legend has it that the ghost of a nun walks the village at night.. As she faces
Whiteladies her habit is whiteā¦ but as she tuns to Blackladies, her gown is black.
The concept of my film is a young blogger who wishes to investigate this legend.. But
with dire consequencesā¦..
4. Style sheet ā Color and images:
reflection
ā¢ How have these posters influenced your final piece and why?
ā¢ The main poster out of these that will most influence my final piece will be the āA
haunted houseā poster as I think as character poster this is a really effective possible with
the blood stains going across the sides of the posters. As well as the overlays that have
been used in this poster, to create that scratched look itās got on it, I think it adds a level
of realism to the poster as well. I think this because If someone saw this as a poster in the
street they wouldnāt know if they were natural scratches or part of the poster.
ā¢ Another poster that has been a influence to my final piece is the SAW poster. I talked
about this In my initial plans, that I want it to have something to do with my character
posters. With each character poster I'm having a letter to represent the title. Also in a
similar style to the SAW poster, the letter is going to be aimed diagonally in the middle of
the poster and instead of having it scratched out like the SAW poster, itās going to be spray
paint to represent the title.
ā¢ The last poster that is having an influence to my final piece, is the Halloween poster. I
talked about this in my research but this poster is really clever. Where if you turn the
brightness up of the image it will change, so that youāll be able to see the eyes behind the
mask more clearly. I want to do something to something similar to this Easter egg in my
main poster.
5. Style sheet ā fonts/title: Kill
I first thought of
something similar to
the SAW logo as itās a
basic design that is a
usually a horror
connotation. I thought
that with a different
coloured font and a
few changes it would
have made it great.
However it would have
been too basic and too
similar for the title.
My second logo I thought
would be a good design is
the scary movie logo.
Again with the basic
design I think itās a good
way of showing horror. I
also thought that this title
really sits well in the dark
as itās 3D and most of my
posters are dark anyway so
I thought this would be a
good title design for it.
This is the logo I came up with,
because its completely original.
My thought was that it gave the
sinister connotation of horror, yet
had a comedic feel which
portrayed the theme of my film.
The title and its appearance is a
good way to show what genre you
want the audience to feel and
know what to expect from the
content of the film.
6. Hardware and Software
ā¢ Hardware
ā¢ When I'm going to take my photographs for posters I will book the photography room. In the photography room I will use
Canon 700D DSL camera that I have booked from the college with the room. This room will really help because there will
be professional lighting that will help me with the shadowing, and I could angle the lights to the position of where I will
want them to be. I think this will be the most effective way as I donāt have the professional equipment for it. However a
weakness of booking the room is time management as we are only allowed the room for a hour and half. This is okay but
also I will have to wait for when Itās my turn to use the room which strains time management as I will have to wait if I have
done all my work already if Iām up to that stage. Another weakness of booking room and equipment is that that you wonāt
know what to do with the lighting and wonāt know how to operate the camera. So because this is stuff is new, thatās means
that we will have to learn which will cost time management again. When filming my trailer I will use my brotherās camera,
a Nikon D3300, which has a really good quality for images and the ability to be able to use filters and shutter speed to
create the effects I want during filming.
ā¢ Software
ā¢ Whilst editing I used my brothers computer which is a MacBook Pro, and whenever I was at college I used their MacBook
and Microsoft Dell computers. I used Adobe photoshop to edit my posters and I used a software called Movavi to edit my
trailer on. The reason Iām using this software and not Adobe Premiere Pro is because I find this easier to edit with. Itās also
free, and is what young professionals around my age will use to edit and learn at the same time. Like my hardware work
this might however also strain time management as Iāll only be using this computer at home, with my brother needing it
during the day. Another weakness of using this software is that it doesnāt have many technical tools installed into there
software so the trailer wont look as professional as is hoped.

20. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Bad weather when we are down in the location of where we
need to be.
Check the weather forecast and pick what the most sensible
day there is to film. Consider that in some circumstances
poor weather can be used to the benefit of the film.. Ie
cloud, white sky, overcast
Absence; e.g. illness. Do their scene the next day but donāt let that scene slow
down any other shots you need to shoot for the trailer.
Blackladies is a private house and whoever lives there might
be offended that youāre filming there.
Keep clear distance from the house and avoid any suspicious
activityā¦ particularly whilst wearing scary costumes!!
Availability of costumes because they were ordered online. Costumes may be delivered late so order in advance and be
cautious of the delivery date.
Relying on transport, as we are going to various locations. Check to see that transportation is working and that I have
confirmation to go to these locations.
Problems with the camera or phone, or software. Spend some time before the filming to check that all
equipment is working correctly. Consider other software,
internet connections. Make sure I āsaveā my work
21. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided?
Walking on crumbling monument when standing
on the Whiteladies convent.
No shots require us to be doing this so all we need to is be cautious and stick to
what we need to film.
Being careful on busy roads when filming in the
centre of Brewood village because we will be
filming on the road.
Look out for each other and donāt rush the shots just be cautious to see what
around.
Eye strain when on the computer. Donāt spend so long on the computer and watch sleep patterns.
Not having breaks on computer or filming Take breaks and donāt push yourself up to your limit. Pre-plan and organise
workload so that nothing is left to the last minute.
Be aware of the public when filming in various
local sights.
Look where youāre going and donāt disturb their day. Whiteladies is an English
Heritage site so there are visitors as well as local walkers, dog owners etc. Always
be aware of country lanes when driving, and be courteous.
Being aware of mental health when around
people with families due to the costumes used.
Be cautious around social gatherings as members in the family might not want to
be in the trailer and the younger people will be scared of the nun costume. Ensure
that costumed actors are kept away from the general public, especially those with
children. Use signage to show that filming is in progress. Be aware of people
around the filming location.
22. Music planning
ā¢ Theme music:
ā¢ https://www.fesliyanstudios.com/royalty-free-music/download/it-is-coming/262
ā¢ The reason I have picked this as my main theme music for my trailer is because I think once Iāll
start editing them both together the shots will go well with the music that is being played. The
theme music is also effective because these shots I will shoot will fit in with aspects of the music
like the chorus of the song when the nun turns around in my trailer will work perfectly.
ā¢ I got this by researching for scary music to find on Google, after I couldnāt find anything I liked that
was on YouTube. So I found this website and I knew that was the right song. I then downloaded the
song using a MP3 downloader which would appear in my downloads ready for me to put in my
software that I'm editing my trailer on called Movavi.
ā¢ Billy The Puppet Laugh:
ā¢ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmr0DEXH0mc
ā¢ I have picked Billy The Puppetās laugh as one of my sound effects for my trailer as its effective
teaser to a character that will be in my trailer. The laugh is very distinctive and recognisable for
such a character. Along with it also being a very creepy laugh which will increase the fear factor of
the audience when they watch the trailer, which will make them want to watch it, I got this clip by
searching āBilly The Puppet laughā onto YouTube. I did this because I know that YouTube is the most
famous platform for receiving videos.
ā¢ I then, like I did before, downloaded the video into a MP3 downloader that will appear into my
documents, which I can export into Movavi which Is the software Iāll be using to edit my trailer.
23. Schedule

24. Conclusion
I have learned through pre-planning these key points
ā¢ Organise workload
ā¢ Resources I can use
ā¢ Developing ideas from my first thoughts, and mind-map, through to fruition and
the idea I want to project as an end result
ā¢ Health and Safety ā it is really important that because I am filming in public
locations that I need to consider those around me, such as members of the
public
ā¢ Contingency planning ā I need to think of all possibilities. What could potentially
go wrong, and how I will deal with it.
ā¢ Trying lots of ideas to get the end result I have in mind
ā¢ Story boards are great for planning
ā¢ Most of all.. I learned that ideas develop and expand. You donāt have to stick
with your first thoughts. Discussion with others always helps to expand ideas,
understand other peoples opinions and imagination, and mentoring from those
around me.
