1. Evaluation Question 1. In what ways do your media products use,
Develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My product was from a horror genre, it was influenced
by many different professional texts. Such as;
“Elsewhere”
“I Spit On Your Grave”
“Lovely Molly”
“The Pact”
The texts I researched into were
“The Exorcism of Emily Rose”
“Paranormal Activity”
“Elsewhere”
“I Spit on your Grave”
From this research I got the idea’s of lighting and Cinematography
that is mainly used within the Horror genre. I also got ideas for
locations and The kind of characters.
2. Ancillary Texts
I used a similar colour scheme to the layout I was using.
I based my magazine cover around that of ‘The Dark Knight’
Edition of Empire. I changed the font’s and used a more traditional
Block text font for my cover. Instead of using black in the colour scheme
Instead I used red, since the background of my model is black, it
Would have been pointless using black text on a black background.
I have tried to do a similar pose for the model, I thought that the
One that the joker was doing looked sinister, but I used natural lighting
And then edited it on Photoshop.
Professional Text. I kept the layout of the original layout of the professional text, but the
Way that my model posed I had to move all of the sell lines to the
Opposing side.
I have tried to keep the sell lines as modern as I could keep them, but
Since I was making this a Halloween edition I tried keep them along
With the horror theme.
I changed the font of my products name on the front of the cover
To match that of the poster and the trailer, so that it stood out to the
Reader and there was continuity between my products.
My Text.
3. Trailer.
I got my initial idea for my narrative for my trailer from a mix between two films.
“The Ward” and “The Uninvited” in which the female protagonist goes mad, and
Starts to imagine either an alter ego, or a close on they lost. So I took this idea,
With the possible locations I had, and thought of what I could do.
The final trailer is no where near what I could have been.
I got the idea for the lighting and the shots from “Lovely Molly” in which too
The protagonist goes insane and starts to see a close one.
The end shot of my trailer mimics that of the Love Molly trailer.
My shot Original Shot
Obliviously I can’t re create the lighting to get the dark
Blue filter but I followed the style of the medium close up
And instead of having a level shot to the actors head, I changed
It to a slightly lower angled shot to make the antagonist look
More powerful and dominating.
4. Conventions.
There are specific conventions that make the horror genre work. These conventions
Consist of things like low key lighting, dark colours, closed framing, obscure camera shots.
When I did my trailer deconstruction I looked at these specific conventions in more
Detail. I explained how I would use them and how I would try to make them work
In my trailer.
Here is a few examples of what I did and why.
