The Pros And Cons Of Euroscepticism
Although contestation of the European integration process has been present since its inception;
such opposition has traditionally been marginal and in the minority. The term Eurosceptic means in
the broadest understanding of the term being opposed to increasing the powers of the European
Union, which is the much simpler definition of a very complicated phenomenon.
It can be traced back to British political discourse where it originated in the mid 1980s to describe
positions and opinions in the debates concerning European integration. Euroscepticism as a
phenomenon truly gained momentum with the Maastricht Treaty (1992). Indeed, before 1992,
opposition was very peripheral or temporary among the elites (Leconte 2010; Lindberg and

sovereignty driven and socio political. The second trend in research concentrates on determining the
factors that instigate anti EU attitudes. Researchers commonly make an argument for the impact of
ideology and strategies of political parties as a probable cause.
Mudde and the School of North Carolina (2011) argue that party politics traditions, especially the
division between parties and their position towards European integration are at the core of
Eurosceptic sentiments. The Sussex School puts forward evidences that the reasons are linked to
nation specific characteristics such as the electoral system, the structure of the party system, etc.
Even though there is no interaction between the two schools, recent research shows that both

Social doctrine of the church as a social instrument of the new evangelization
Three terms are present in the title of this issue: two explicit (social doctrine of the church and new
evangelization) and an implicit (evangelization). We can t talk about the new evangelization
without connecting it with the evangelization itself; the relationship between the church s social
doctrine and the new evangelization comes through the evangelization.
The first thing it s the evangelization, the most original, and that goes back to the origins of the
church.
The church s social doctrine, born in the 19th century as an attempt to answer of faith to the great
problems which occurred with modernity, as new ideologies that give the body and the ... Show

The necessity of evangelization continues but it losses all of it personal character to become
massive. Also, the conversion was result of imposition and no for conviction.
This massive evangelization supposed the incorporation of many people to the Christian faith.
Reaching the point that the christianism was all over the occidental culture. The power of the
empire strengthened the authority of the church. The heresy was pursuit by the civil courts. The
laws were inspired by the Christian principles.
The evangelization of America
America s evangelization was made from Spain and Portugal. It takes place at the same time that
the conquest of territories and was supported by the political power.
Since the first moments the pope intervened, especially when Spain and Portugal had conflicts and
he conceded to the Spain Kings the discovered territories to practice there their Christian mission.
Initially they use the requirement system, in which they invited the Indian to take the Christian
faith or to lose their freedom and territories. After this they use the parcel system in which the
Indians were submitted to the conquerors and they assumed the responsibility of their education.
America s evangelization wouldn t be possible without the missioners that take care of the
indoctrination of the Indians. And that s the way that the Christians imposed another type of
evangelization: the exterior missions. This enormous effort extended to territories like Asia

Relationship between China-Japan, China-Australia and...
In this section I will be detailing and comparing the relationships between China Japan, China
Australia, and China Venezuela. I am first going to start with the relationship between China and
Japan. I will begin with the time frame between the years of 1949 1969. During this time, China
sees Japan as a threat, which is not surprising because of Japan s assault against China in the 1890s
to 1920s, Japans brutal occupation of China in the 1930s and 1940s and Japan s role in America s
containment strategy against China. China counters Japan by forming a military alliance with the
Soviet Union in 1950. This alliance was indirectly directed at the United Statesbut primarily
directed against Japan. China tried to encourage Japan to have better relations by playing upon
Japanese war guilt and issues of Japanese behavior in the 1930s and 40s. This didn t work in the
political dimension of the relationship. China felt that better relations with Japan would be useful,
both politically and economically. But Japan would not normalize relations because of its close
relationship with the United States and the nationalists. On the economic front, things were
different, as trade started to grow. The countries are so close to one another that it made sense.
Meanwhile, Japan is still recovering from the war, but is recovering rapidly and becomes an
important potential partner for China. In the 1960s the forming of a trade relationship began. The
two countries assign some memorandums of

How Is Curley Presented In Of Mice And Men
How far can pettiness push a person? In Of Mice and Men, Curley is early on discovered to be
one of the main antagonist of the story because of his hostile attitude. Curley is simply a bad
egg who forever changes the other characters lives, maybe even for the worst. John Steinbeck
includes the antagonistic character of Curley to serve as a classic bully who shows the petty side
of society. Steinbeck uses both direct and indirect characterization to show that Curley is a
combative type of person. Curley parades his combative nature when he readily pulverizes sweet
Lenny. Curley slashed at Lenny with his left, and then same down on his nose with a right. Lenny
gave a cry of terror. (Steinbeck 63). This establishes that Curley loves to... Show more content on

Being petty means to take something small and letting it blow out of proportion. This is best
displayed when Crooks mentions Curley s bias hatred for big guys. The swamper considered....
Well...tell you what. Curley is like a lot of little guys. He hates big guys. He s alla time picking
scraps with big guys. Kind of like he s mad at them because he ain t a big guy. You seen little
guys like that, ain t you? Always scrappy? (Steinbeck 26). Curley is taking something so trivial
as height, and letting it control his feelings. Another example of Curley s pettiness is his
reaction to when his wife died. Slim nodded. We might, he said. If we could keep Curley in, we
might. But Curley s gonna want to shoot him. Curley is still mad about his hand. An s pose they
lock him up an strap him down and put him in a cage. That ain t no good, George. (Steinbeck
97). Slim clearly says that Curley wants to kill Lenny for revenge about his hand. You would
think that Curley would be motivated by the murder of his wife to kill Lenny, but to the contrary,
he is largely motivated by his bruised ego from the broken hand incident. Curley is so petty that he
is willing to take a man s life over an insignificant

The Darkling Thrush And The Force That Through The Green...
Natural instances are prominent in Hardy s The Darkling Thrush and Thomas s The Force That
Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower . Hardy reminisces over the past while witnessing a
changing society while Thomas reminisces over the certain destruction of his youth and
vitality, even with different concerns both authors problems are due to passing time. Both
poems have a certain contrast when explaining their theme but both are aware of the idea of
death being a natural occurrence that awaits all of us. The two author s similarities are
highlighted by a look at form, tone, words, and continuous use of nature to depict theme. In The
Darkling Thrush the speaker ponders how slow death surrounds him, and how life is
diminishing with almost no reason to live in a new era full of dullness. The speaker shows
intense reflection over his thoughts and works through his ideas. When the speaker hears a
beautiful song coming from a dying bird, his dark realistic perspective of living changes as he
sees that the birds last breaths were spent singing a song. He continues to be realistic over the
topic of death and not overthink the full hearted evensong (Hardy 615), but the bird gives him a
chance to think about something more hopeful in this bleak world. The bird, a thrush which is
found in nature symbolizes the natural side of death. Even if it was passing, the bird reflected his
soul in song creating the idea of a death just being a lulling moment in a gloom lonely world;

Teaching Philosophy
Once an individual becomes an educator, it is their duty to coach and help demonstrate as mentors.
Mentors then become involved in the fundamentals of student growth where the art of learning is
never over, especially for the teacher. Teachers can use a lesson plan to help facilitate student
learning in which students collaborate with their mentors to establish a relationship with the
mentors and then teachers and students become active participants in the learning community.
There is always something to learn from the students, from other educators, and from the world in
general. Dedication is at hand in order to establish a clear baseline between the students and the

This approach will allow students to fully understand the dynamic roles between the teacher and
student. The skills educators must develop will assist the student s role into becoming appreciative
because they must consider teaching to be a lifestyle, not just a paycheck. A teacher s goal should
be a trusted profession with the education of a young mind and must provide a quality education to
all. Teachers should equip their students the necessary tools for different levels of knowledge and
understanding, and for success in life. I think it is important for effective learning and teaching to
first establish a mutually respectful honest relationship with students. Communication and honesty
should become the first or highest priority and put into the method of teaching. Teamwork should
also be put into demonstration in the classroom in order for students to prepare for adult interaction
in the future. All students learn at different paces. Through the traditional structures of education, a
proper curriculum should be constructed for the students. Although the traditional structural
framework should be built on NEA s Committee of Ten, students should also learn the basic
common facts for intellectual and emotional development. I also believe that assessment in the
classroom should be constant where students would have the chance to be graded through
presentations,

The Ottoman Empire And Islamic Terrorism
The Ottoman Empire and Islamic Terrorism
Florida International University
By
Melinda Persaud
November 7, 2014
Introduction What is known today as modern day Turkey, was once one of the most powerful
empires in the world. They referred to this imperial state as the Ottoman Empire. The Purpose of the
empire was to gain land , and spread their Islamic teachings. With this they had created a thirteenth
century empire led by Osman, the founder of the Ottoman Empire. Osman surrounded himself with
strong solders who specialized in ambushes, and hit and run tactics, they referred to these highly
trained soldiers as Janissaries . The empire they built was the largest and most dominant of the
Muslim empires. The decline of the Ottoman Empire led to terrorist movements, specifically
Islamic terrorism. Wanting to spread their beliefs through violence, Islamic terrorist groups began
to try to overpower certain nations. It not only existed in the later history but still seems to play
a big role even today. This has spread throughout the world from the horrific tragedy of the World
Trade Center all the way to the multiple bombings in the London Underground. One main
terrorist group that has our focus today would be ISIS whose purpose is to create an Islamic
state. This is only one example of a current Islamic terrorist group. Power, religion, and beliefs are
what seem to make up the goal of what these Islamic terrorist groups are trying to allow.

Bean has a solid footing among its competitors, which among many others include Land s End,
Cabela s, Bass Pro Shops, and Dick s Sporting Goods. In a somewhat outdated, yet still relevant
article from ADWEEK, they talk about L.L. Bean s way of dealing with customers by

philosophy on customer service is what makes L.L. Bean stand out over the competition. The
product for this launch is a new item that will be a must have for campers, hikers, and those who
live in areas prone to power outages. It is a combination solar powered and wood, twig, brush

environmentally conscious, the technologically savvy, and the rustic, outdoor type. The value this

Analysis Of The Wife Of His Youth
The Wife of His Youth is a short story by Charles Chesnutt about a bourgeoisie man named Mr.
Ryder who is in a dilemma when the wife of his past shows up a day before he proposes to his
lover, Mrs. Molly Dixon. Originally Sam Taylor, an apprentice on a plantation, Mr. Ryder runs
away and settles in a light colored community Groveland where he becomes a bourgeoisie. In
Groveland, Ryder joins a colored organization Blue Veins where he further advances himself in
society and becomes the dean of the organization. The Blue Veins Society is created to establish
and maintain correct social standards among a people whose social condition presented almost
unlimited room for improvement (Chesnutt 624). As Ryder prepares for the ball and his
proposal to Molly, Liza Jane appears in his life and causes him to thwart his proposal. Instead of
proposing to Molly, he presents to his guests, Liza Jane, the wife of his youth. Chesnutt s The Wife
of His Youth addresses raceand Chesnutt s view on race, societal standards, language, and the
significance of Liza Jane s appearance with racial identity and the color line.
Race is an important element in The Wife of His Youth and can be prominently seen in Ryder s
encounter with Liza Jane. Ryder is a mulatto man, but has long forgotten his past and has
embraced the middle class societal life until Liza Jane presents him the case of her missing
husband. When Ryder meets her, she is described as, And she was very black, so black that

Realism in Oedipus the King Essay
Realism in Oedipus Rex
This essay will examine a feature of Sophocles tragedy which causes the reader to doubt the
realism underlying the literary work. Specifically, the essay will consider the feasability of the
belief at that time that the Delphi oracle possessed credibility with the people.
At the outset of the drama the priest of Zeus and the crowd of citizens of Thebes are gathered
before the royal palace of Thebes talking to King Oedipus about the plague which is ravaging the
city. The king is sorely troubled and laments the sad situation. Then he says:
I have sent Menoeceus son,

What s amiss?
CREON Banishment, or the shedding blood for blood.
This stain of blood makes shipwreck of our state.
And for the duration of the tragedy the characters explicitly or implicitly acknowledge their total
belief in the directions of the Delphic oracle as the only means of ridding Thebes of the plague.
Historically speaking, did the Delphic oracle have such credibility among the populace?
For an answer to this question we go to The Histories of Herodotus. Herodotus was called the
Father of History by Cicero and others. He lived and wrote in the fifth century BC just like
Sophocles. As a contemporary, Herodotus knew and wrote about the beliefs and customs of the
ancient Greeks as an historian, not as a litterateur. Herodotus was therefore interested in a factual
presentation, not in an imaginative presentation such as Sophocles sought for as a dramatist.
Herodotus, therefore, can be relied upon to either substantiate or contradict the validity of the
situation in Oedipus Rex where the realism of the drama rests considerably on the claimed belief in
the infallibility of the Delphic oracle.
Let us examine a portion of The Histories that describes Athens, since Sophocles lived in Athens
and wrote for an Athenian audience and even had Oedipus die at Colonnus, a suburb of Athens. In
Book V Herodotus describes the engagement between the Athenians and the Boeotians, who were
defeated; then another victory for Athens

Factors Influencing A Person s Political Views
Self Evaluation
A lot of factor influences a person s political views. A person is influenced by a lot of things that
make them able to take the political stance at a point of life. As an individual, he walks through
the pace of long life to understand the values and beliefs that he has been hearing since childhood.
Sometimes it is really hard for one to decide what political party he wants to support, at that time he
can take the suggestion from his family, friends, media and online quizzes.
The process through which a person develops political beliefs and opinions that influence their
behavior in social spheres is known as political socialization. It is the way in which a person gets

Political ideology is a more or less consistent set of views as to the policies the government ought to
pursue. People around the world, at some point, obtain a political ideology in their lifetime.
American politics functions largely in the middle of the political spectrum as a contest between
liberals and conservatives. Liberals believe the government has an important place both as a
regulator in the public interest and to assist those with lower incomes. On the other hand, they still
oppose government intervention in matters of personal autonomy. Conservatives feel there is too
much government interference, particularly at the federal level, in the economy. This belief
translates into calls for lower taxes, reduced spending on social programs, and deregulation. Perhaps
because most Americans see themselves as moderates, politicians find it difficult to stay within the
ideological boundaries of liberalism or conservatism. Many stress their credentials as fiscal
conservatives while taking liberal positions on social issues. Others take a populist line,
embracing active governmental intervention in both economic and cultural spheres. Upon taking

Bandura Social Influence
Social influence contains the ability to change the way a person reacts to a situation. An
individual can adapt to a situation based on their surroundings. This type of influence begins as
early as childhood when the mind is most vulnerable to learning. To test the vulnerability of a
child s mind, an experiment was conducted by Bandura, who theorized the process of social
learning. In the study, 36 boys and girls of ages three to six were observed after they viewed a
video on a model aggressively attacking a Bobo doll. After the children observed the aggressive
model, the children imitated similar actions. According to the results, Children learn social behavior

their conforming answers, but had gone along with the group for fear of being ridiculed or
thought peculiar (McLeod). The participants complied with the majority against their correct
judgment to not stand out, or because they felt less informed compared to the rest of the group.
As a result of approving the erroneous answer, it can negatively impact society. For example, in
the 1950s, the United States was in a time of fear of communism, and people were wrongly
accused of being a communist (McLeod). Nevertheless, no individuals carried the bravery to speak
out against the wrongdoing in fear of accusation. If the United States were to repeat events like the
1950s, communal influence can overpower the rationality of the people. In both the Bobo doll

any writing. This struck me as important because I believe that the position that the writer usually

George Bush first the ideas of Bush are imbedded in the mind and then when discussion of Al

Survival plays a major throughout the entire story. The most gruesome part in the story occurred

friends and family members so that they would be able to survive. This drastic action was long

expedition was supposed to consist of three people which were Roberto Canessa, Nando Parrado,
and Antonio Vizintin. All three boys were stocked with a 10 days ration of flesh. Unfortunately,
on the third day of the expedition Canessa and Parrado realized that the crusade for civilization

back to the plane and take his ration of food. The two boys walked the Andes for seven more days
until they finally found a pasture of cows. With a little more walking they found a Chilean peasant
who contacted the proper authorities. One day later the remaining 14 passengers still in the
Fairchild were rescued. The Fairchild had crashed on October 13, 1972 and the remaining
passengers were rescued on December 20th of that same year. The end of this book was described

Furthermore, Hooks did not ignore the fact that some women struggles to succeed on the

The Disaster Of Nuclear Generating Station Essay
Abstract:
In the early morning hours of 28th March 1979, the worst disaster in the history of nuclear
energy production in the US took place. Unit Two of the Three Mile Island had a meltdown
releasing some amount of radioactivity into the surrounding area. The meltdown led to the
possibility of Unit 2 of the reactor facility to explode. The ramifications of the accident revealed
the conceptual difficulties of assessing social risks and the political difficulties in managing them
(Nelkin, March 1981).This paper aims at describing the accident, the post accident setup and clean
up and the various losses which have been attributed to the disaster. It also intends to develop an
understanding of the various complex issues and social vulnerabilities and risks that caused the
disaster. The paper raises a very important question about the safety of the nuclear power plants in
the world and the risk the reactors pose to the people and environment as a whole.
Introduction:
The Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station (TMI) is located in the Susquehanna River
flowing in the south of Harrisburg Town in the state of Pennsylvania, U.S. The generating station
comprises of two generating units TMI 1 and TMI 2. TMI 1 has a generating capacity of 852
MWe and the commercial operation began in 1974.
Unit Two of the Three Mile Island Generating Station was similar in construction to Unit One. It
was of a slightly higher capacity than Unit One and the generating capacity was 906 MWe. The

Today s Kids Are, Like Killing The English Language
Over time, language changes over time. It can get shorter and the use of slang will get more
popular. Slang is used to make a sentence more understandable or to shorten a phrase. There are
many advantages to using nonstandard language when speaking and writing, but there are also
many disadvantages. Using nonstandard languagecan also change on how effective your
communicationwith someone can be. One of the advantages are that you can communicate with
someone more easily. But the bad part is other people who are fluent in the language will think you
aren t very smart.
The main advantage in using nonstandard language is that there is an ease of communication

Slang can sometimes come off a bit rudely. With the words duh, yeah, and right, they don t sound
very happy. Here s a quote from Kirk Johnson s article, Today s Kids Are, Like, Killing the English
Language :
Parent: Good morning, son, it s a beautiful day.
Eleven year old boy: Duh p.168
Now Johnson isn t saying that it is rude, but to most other people that can be insulting. If you
don t really know what slang means and you hear someone say something about you, you could
take that the wrong way. When communicating, the effectiveness of using nonstandard language
or slang can differ depending on who you talk to. If you are speaking to a friend, then it is fine if
you use shortcuts and slang. But if you are speaking to someone who s older than you, like a
parent, then it would be better off that you talk to them with standard language. One time my
older brother said yolo and my mom asked what that meant. After he explained it to her she said it
didn t make sense and it was kind of stupid. That s why it would be better off to not use slang or

Sexual Harassment Essay
Sexual harassment is so ordinary in the workforce that frequently we fail to even recognize
harassing behavior as immoral. This is because so many of us women and men alike have become
desensitized to offensive behaviors. Sexual harassment in any form is unacceptable behavior and
should not be tolerated by anyone. It undermines our ability to study, to work, and to feel like
effective, empowered people in the world.
The U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission describes sexual harassment as a form of
gender discrimination that is in violation of the Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Undesirable
sexual advances, request for sexual favors, and further verbal and physical conduct of a sexual
nature constitutes sexual harassment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to, The Society for Human Resource Management has reported that 62% of companies
offer sexual harassment prevention training programs, and 97% have a written sexual harassment
policy (Sexual Harassment in the Workplace).
Over the last decade the number of grievance filed with EEOC has gradually decreased. For
example, in 1997 approximately 16,000 complaints of sexual harassment were filed. Last year,
the number of complaints dropped to 11,717 which 16.4% of charges were filed by men (Sexual
Harassment Charges). The common of complaints reported to the EEOC came from women;
conversely the quantity of complaints filed by men is ever increasing, along with increasing
numbers of men filing against female supervisors. In 2007, 16% of complaints filed with the
EEOC were filed by men (Sexual Harassment Charges).
Men are increasingly claiming they re victims of sexual harassment and sexual harassment of
men does occur. The first ever court case involving sexual harassment of a man in the workplace
was in 1995. The EEOC sued Domino Pizza after a female supervisor of a male store manager
sexually harassed him and then fired him (Tahmincioglu, 2007). In 1998 a ruling by the Supreme
Court involving a Louisiana man, who claimed he was sexually harassed by his male manager
while working on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, made it clear that men are protected from such
harassment at work under Title VII of the Civil Rights

Similarities Of Two Peter And Jude
The similarities of 2 Peter and Jude might appear to be a strenuous task to some who have never
been engaged in reading the two writings. My essay will attempt to show the similarities that are
in these two writings which seem to have been scribed at the same time or around the same time.
Most similarities, of which are namely: the dates of the scribing of the two Epistles, the false
doctrines of the false teachers that had come into the church, the same thoughts and expressions of
their work, whether the writings are apostolic or not, and what hardships the churches or the two
audiences were facing. The Epistle of Jude has been said to be inscribed very late, but it might not
have been inscribed after A.D. 70, which was the destruction of Jerusalem. Perceiving that if it had

The book of Enoch is possibly one of the oldest books, for it is said, Enoch walked with God .
Enoch is also said to have preached to many, even angels! Nevertheless, even if Jude quoted from
Enoch s writings, he was just as the Paul who quoted from the verses of the Old Testament, and
to Peter who referred to some of the Epistles of Paul. Even if there so many similar scriptures
found in Jude and 2 Peter, it is just the Holy Spirit in both men. According to the style of writing of
the two apostles, it seems the churches or their audiences were going through the same hardships.
As mentioned above, they all had problems with false teachers, and Peter states that some would
fall away into accepting the doctrines of these men, and follow the pernicious ways of these men (2
Peter 2:2) . So, there is a possibility that their audiences were all facing the same difficulties and
hardships. It might have been that the two audiences needed the same encouragements, reproof,

Feeling Death in The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien
War is often thought about as something that hardens a soldier. It makes a person stronger
emotionally because they are taught not show it and deal with it internally. People say that death
in war is easier to handle because it is for the right reasons and a person can distance themselves
from the pain of losing someone. However, there is always a point when the pain becomes too real
and it is hard to maintain that distance. In doing so, the story disputes the idea that witnessing a
traumatic event causes a numbing or blockage of feelings. Rat Kiley s progression of sentiment
began with an initial concern for the buffalo, transforming into an irate killing of the animal, and
then ending with an ultimate acceptance of death. These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rat felt the sorrow of having recently lost a friend, which was indicated by him crying. Rat was
so overcome by emotion that he was unable to speak to the others. He could not verbally express
how he was feeling. When Rat went to leave, he did not just carry his gun. Instead, Rat cradled
his rifle (76). The act of cradling the gun implied that Rat was seeking comfort from his actions.
He was also seeking reassurance while he was grieving his loss. This is when Rat could no
longer deny the reality of war and death. Most of the other feelings were defenses; they helped
him maintain that distance for a little bit longer. When Rat was finally able to cry over the
death, the distance was completely gone. Rat was able to enter the grieving process and cope
with Curt dying. The crying was an apparent display of his acceptance of death. By facing the
death head on, Rat became a stronger soldier because he was not suppressing emotions. The other
soldiers in the platoon did not know how to react to the display. As the narrator stated, We had
witnessed something essential, something brand new and profound, a piece of the world so
startling there was not yet a name for it (76). Since the other soldiers were not used to seeing
outward presentations of grieving, the entire event was perplexing and foreign to them. They were
unsure of how to react or even proceed. Therefore, in order to maintain the notion

Male Gaze
A challenge that faces both Canadian cinema and women s cinema is the idea of the male gaze.
The film industry is a phallocentric institution that since its inception has always faced the
problem of objectifying women. As well Canada has faced similar problems long before the
existence of film in the form of the colonial gaze, with attempts from both Britain and France to
take what Canada had to offer and make it its own. In the film Away From Her (2006) Sarah
Polley recognizes this problem that the gaze has on both the identity of women and Canada in

She quotes the men seem curious, staring directly into my lens (curious at the camera or my gender)

Looking at a more practical example before the technical specifications, in 2014, a group of people
from Rocky Mount were conspiring with larger groups to have heroin transported from New Jersey
to Rocky Mount. The United States Attorney stated that local and federal law enforcement was
committed to putting a stop to heroin related charges in the area. When apprehending the
participants, it was considered conspiring to distribute and to possess with the intend to
distribute heroin, a Schedule I substance. This is a violation of Title 21, United States Code,
Sections 841(a)(1) and 846. Title 21 USC 841(a)(1) states, (a) Unlawful acts Except as
authorized by this subchapter, it shall be unlawful for any person knowingly or intentionally (1)
to manufacture, distribute, or dispense, or possess with intent to manufacture, distribute, or

subsequent United States Code, 846, concerns the attempt and conspiracy to sell ( 21 U.S.C.
846 attempt and conspiracy, n.d.). Looking at the more technical side of legality more in depth
than related convictions, there is a set standard of penalties regarding Schedule I drugs. All
charges related to heroin, possession or distribution, are felonies. The possession classifies as a
Class I felony and has a potential penalty of six to twelve months in prison, along with fines and
possible loss of license. Heroin distribution of four to fourteen grams is a Class F felony, resulting
in stronger penalties. This penalty equals between seventy and eighty four months, five to seven

Can a change that was caused by a particular experience be described from a particular
perspective? Can a horrible truth be expressed in words how it felt as a feeling? Tim O Brien s
The Things They Carried, a collection of stories about his service in the VietnamWar, raises exactly
such questions, and in remembering, O Brien endeavors to answer them for himself.
The short story Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong, is a tale of the horrors of war, and how quickly
violent experiences can change one from civilized gentle to uncivilized inhumane who enjoys
killing others. The story tells about an ideal American young girl s transformation into a savage,
who becomes emotionless while visiting her boyfriend, a soldier, in Vietnam. This story shows that
a war can bring up the savage characteristics within human beings, whether male or female. This is
shown through the development of Mary Anne. Initially she was amiable and innocent, but she
rapidly became more disconnected to society a trained killer. Her story shows the mental
transference of humans at war, and how they can be converted from sympathetic people into
unsocial, who is capable of performing the most dreadful acts.
O Brien uses irony to convey the bizarre aspect of the story, keeping the purpose of his true war

Walker appreciates the dangers of the American/Soviet rivalry. He acknowledges its devastating
impact on Europe as the last and greatest of Europe s civil wars. Yet he also calls the Cold War a

some recent commentators, he does not dismiss the Cold Waras some kind of colossal mistake that
one side or the other should have been prudent enough to avoid. The Soviet Unions collapse, he

were not unfounded. Throughout his study, Walker never loses sight of the fact that although the

THE END OF HISTORY AND THE LAST MAN is the author s response. His thesis is simple.
The failure of communism and the disappearance of the Soviet Union has resulted in the victory of
liberal democracy and capitalism. There are, he claims, no more challengers. Security and freedom
have been achieved, and consequently, history has ended.
THE END OF HISTORY AND THE LAST MAN ignores the confusing events and details of
most history and is more philosophical, even teleological, in its orientation. The author states that
only liberal democracy and the market economy have satisfactorily provided what Plato claimed
to be necessary for happiness: the appetitive (food and sex), the reasoning (knowledge and truth),
and the need to be recognized as human. Hegel s concept of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis
explained the process of history, with liberal democracy as the final synthesis according to
Fukuyama. Marx, like Hegel, saw the world in a clash of evolving opposites, but while Marx
predicted that the triumph of communism would lead to the withering away of the state, Fukuyama
instead argues that with the victory of liberal democracy it is history that has

It can further be argued that Aristotle is solely interest in the actions of the citizen in regard to
their virtue than simply their relative nature or disposition. In order to have a great appreciation
for biology, it could be argued that one should have a basic understanding and appreciation of
the cells that compose all life on Earth. In the same vein, a chemist might be more appreciative of
chemical reactions when they are able to understanding the reactions happening at the molecular
level between the elements involved. Much in the same way, Aristotle as an appreciator of the
state attempts to gain a better understand of what makes up that state by proclaiming, a state is
composite, and, like any other whole, made up of many parts; these are the citizens, who
compose it. (Arist. Pol. III,1, 2). When trying to demystify the term of citizenship, Aristotle is
quick to dismiss multiple commonly associated definitions. For example, many would assume
that living in a state is enough to make one a citizen of said state. However, as Aristotle argues,
there are a variety of people that live in the state such as women and slaves that do not have the
ability to exercise certain political rights and also lack the ability to be a citizen. This definition can
generally be agreed upon even when relating it back to the world today where numerous people can

Year after year a behavioral change began to impact her life; she became irritable, fatigued and

everyone. Her kids would ask if she was okay and knew something was wrong. The work related
stress and harassment she received from her bosses triggered symptoms of depression. The job
took place at Unknown Healthcare where she was an administrative assistant. An office job that
paid fairly well, however, was stressful because of the rigorous demands from the bosses and the
abusive behavior in which they treated her. She was working 9 5 everyday with some days of
overtime while being a single parent with two young kids. She decided it was in her best interest
to quit the job and find something where she would be happier and healthier. However the
damage was already done as she currently, to this day, suffers from chronic depression. After
leaving the job she began taking anti depressants and found a job that she loves. You can see a
huge improvement in behavior, as she has more energy and is enjoyable to be around again. She
will be interviewed in a different segment with regards to the study. Stress in the workplace is a

Analysis Of The Book The Demon
In another of Kawamoto s work, The Demon , the mother figure in the film undergoes a
transformation that impacts family negatively: old age. The Demon begins by presenting the
mother figure lying in bed, dying and unable to care for herself. Shortly after, we see her difficult
life flash before her eyes a life full of loneliness and sadness. The scene later switches to her sons
going to hunt for food. During their hunting trip, the sons notice something follows them and
eventually realize it was a demon. They immediately go home, only to watch their mother
transform into said demon. The mother s transformation into a demon signifies how motherhood
during old age transforms women into unwanted beings. Even though the sons love their mother,
her frail condition hinders them, as she cannot assist around their home in any way. To describe
this situation, Rebecca Copeland, in her essay, Mythical Bad Girls, compares a mother at old
age to a womb that devours, she gives life and then takes it back. This comparison exhibits
negative views about mothers. First, it shows how society views women solely as vessels for
reproduction. Copeland s comparison of mothers to their reproductive organs not only objectifies
women, but it also suggests women have no other purpose than reproducing. Second, Copeland s
comparison implies that while a mother may bring life, she also takes it away through her
requiring care during old age. Due to a mother requiring care, she impedes upon

Military Conscription
Whatever democratic rules are used by a nation and whatever votes are based on standards are
thought to be pervasive in its general public, the conscription is a titanic stride towards the
disorder and oppression of a free state. It will leave its signature on everything. That is the
reason why no general public can see itself as a free country. These two ideas are contrary and
nothing may legitimize uniting them. About a month and a half after the Unified States formally
entered the First World War, the U.S Congress passes the Selective Service Act on May 18, 1917,
giving the U.S. president the ability to draft soldiers. When he went before Congress on April 2,

Contextual inquiry is developed by Beyer and Holtzblatt (1988). The data is collected through
contextual inquiry. Contextual inquiry is a qualitative study from various field such as psychology,
anthropology and sociology (Ghasemifard, Shamsi, Kenari, Ahmadi, 2015). Therefore contextual
inquiry method is carried out to assist the cognitive performance among users. The first step taken
is to observe users based on the usability testing methods in their cognitive performance while using
the app. Then questions are asked based on the existing problem discovered and the process taken
by users in completing their task through the app. There are four evaluators that participated in this
study to observe the usability of the application created and at the same time to jot down different
performances that may occur simultaneously in terms of their cognitive actions. According to the

Military/Police: The Rise of Militarized Policing
Introduction
The United States has long regarded with great suspicion efforts to use the military as a tool of
civilian law enforcement. In significant part, this attitude grew out of the colonists experiences
with the abuses of the British Army. These abuses included the Boston Massacre of 1770, in which
the British Army opened fire on colonists protesting the use of the army to enforce civilian laws
(Doherty, 2016). These attitudes led to an effort during the early post Revolution period to separate
military and police powers (Doherty, 2016), as well as the Third Amendment with its specific
limitations on the military s authority over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can provide benefits in the form of encouragement tacitly or explicitly towards
professionalism on the part of all police personnel, not just those associated with the PPU.
Although the term police professionalism has fallen into some disfavor due to its association
with a concept of the police as a cold and distant force imposed against crime, the reality is that
militarization does serve to increase consistency of behavior across police forces as well as the
imposition of expectations of professional behavior (Hall Coyne, 2013). Additionally, PPUs may
serve an important morale boosting purpose for police forces, setting a high standard for
competence and ability and creating a goal to which line officers may aspire (Breede, 2008).
Finally, when it comes to civilian law enforcement, it is far more desirable to layer a degree of
military training, tactics, and equipment onto a preexisting police mindset than to try to retrain a
military mindset for civilian law enforcement work (Breede,

Emily Dickinson s I Heard A Fly Buzz When I Died
The Surprising Elements of I heard a Fly Buzz When I Died In some instances within literature,
writers surprise readers by incorporating ideas that the reader may or may not expect. Within
Emily Dickinson s poem I heard a Fly Buzz When I Died , readers are introduced to a ghostly
speaker that discusses the scene of their deathbed. Readers are exposed to many surprises
throughout various aspects of the poem. One aspect of the poem that surprises readers is the
relationship between the speaker and the fly .The first surprise involved in this relationship, is the
combined revelation of the fly and the speaker s death. As the poem begins, the speaker says to
readers, I heard a fly buzz when I died (Dickinson, 1). After reading that the speaker heard the
buzz of a fly, readers may expect the death of the fly or more detail on the fly itself. However, the
speaker hits readers by telling them that they heard the buzzing at the moment of their own death.
Dickinson is immediately telling readers that her poem contains supernatural elements that link
to the fly. This may come as a shock to readers, since they may ponder the significance of the fly
within the speaker s death, as it is not yet revealed by the end of the poem s first line. The
relationship between the speaker and the fly continues to be surprising, as the speaker describes
the fly as the power that controls their life (the gateway between life and death). The speaker says:
There interposed a Fly With

Charles De Galle Essay
Charles de Gaulle was born in Lille, France, on Nov. 22, 1890, the son of a teacher of philosophy
and literature at a Jesuit college. From early childhood he took an interest in reading. Fascinated by
history, he formed an almost mystical formation of service to France.
De Gaulle graduated from the Ecole Militaire of Saint Cyr in 1912 and joined an infantry
division. In World War I he was wounded and captured at Douaumont in the Battle of Verdun in
March 1916. As a war prisoner, he wrote his first book, published in 1924 called La discorde chez l
ennemi. He served on Marshal Henri Philippe Petain s staff then with the French army in the
Rhineland, and later in Lebanon. On April 7, 1921 de Gaulle married Yvonne Vendroux and they

When Marshal Petain, who was committed to a truce with the Germans, became premier. On June
18 de Gaulle broadcasted the first of his demands to his fellow soldiers to continue the fight. He
impressed upon British Prime Minister Winston Churchill the significance of the movement but
did not impress the skeptical leaders in Washington including President Franklin D. Roosevelt,
who thought of him as a potential dictator and he only saw de Gaulle as an obstacle to U. S.
relations with the Vichy government. In July 1940 a French court martial sentenced de Gaulle to
death for treason. In 1942, de Gaulle s Free French movement gained a lot of power and influence,
winning over the French colonies in West Africa, and set up close relationships with the
underground Resistance group in France itself. De Gaulle repeated his intention to allow the
French people to decide their own political destiny and finally he received a lot of moral support.
In November 1942, when American and British forces landed in North Africa, they convinced
Adm. Jean Francois Darlan and Marshal Petain s to order a cease fire, Darlan was named high
commissioner for French North Africa in result. De Gaulle and many sections of the British and
American were not happy with this change. Darlan was assassinated a moth later. Henri Giraud was
named the new high commissioner. Wanting this position, de Gaulle

Her imagination gets the best of her and she believes that General Tilney had murdered his wife.
After exploring the Abbey, Catherine finds it to be an ordinary family home: The Abbey in itself
was no more to her now than any other house (Austen 198). She realizes that she has been gravely
mistaken and is ashamed about her feelings: Astonishment and doubt first seized them; and a
shortly succeeding ray of common sense added some bitter emotions of shame (169). She
recognizes that her gothic novels are not reality (Mathison 142). Catherine s disillusionment of

The Pros And Cons Of Euroscepticism Although contestation of the European integration process has been present since its inception; such opposition has traditionally been marginal and in the minority. The term Eurosceptic means in the broadest understanding of the term being opposed to increasing the powers of the European Union, which is the much simpler definition of a very complicated phenomenon. It can be traced back to British political discourse where it originated in the mid 1980s to describe positions and opinions in the debates concerning European integration. Euroscepticism as a phenomenon truly gained momentum with the Maastricht Treaty (1992). During this time, China sees Japan as a threat, which is not surprising because of Japan s assault against China in the 1890s to 1920s, Japans brutal occupation of China in the 1930s and 1940s and Japan s role in America s containment strategy against China. China counters Japan by forming a military alliance with the Soviet Union in 1950. This alliance was indirectly directed at the United Statesbut primarily directed against Japan. China tried to encourage Japan to have better relations by playing upon Japanese war guilt and issues of Japanese behavior in the 1930s and 40s. This didn t work in the political dimension of the relationship. China felt that better relations with Japan would be useful, both politically and economically. But Japan would not normalize relations because of its close relationship with the United States and the nationalists. On the economic front, things were different, as trade started to grow. The countries are so close to one another that it made sense. Meanwhile, Japan is still recovering from the war, but is recovering rapidly and becomes an important potential partner for China. In the 1960s the forming of a trade relationship began. The two countries assign some memorandums of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. How Is Curley Presented In Of Mice And Men How far can pettiness push a person? In Of Mice and Men, Curley is early on discovered to be one of the main antagonist of the story because of his hostile attitude. Curley is simply a bad egg who forever changes the other characters lives, maybe even for the worst. John Steinbeck includes the antagonistic character of Curley to serve as a classic bully who shows the petty side of society. Steinbeck uses both direct and indirect characterization to show that Curley is a combative type of person. Curley parades his combative nature when he readily pulverizes sweet Lenny. Curley slashed at Lenny with his left, and then same down on his nose with a right. Lenny gave a cry of terror. (Steinbeck 63). This establishes that Curley loves to... He s alla time picking scraps with big guys. Kind of like he s mad at them because he ain t a big guy. You seen little guys like that, ain t you? Always scrappy? (Steinbeck 26). Curley is taking something so trivial as height, and letting it control his feelings. Another example of Curley s pettiness is his reaction to when his wife died. Slim nodded. We might, he said. If we could keep Curley in, we might. But Curley s gonna want to shoot him. Curley is still mad about his hand. An s pose they lock him up an strap him down and put him in a cage. • 7. The Darkling Thrush And The Force That Through The Green... Natural instances are prominent in Hardy s The Darkling Thrush and Thomas s The Force That Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower . Hardy reminisces over the past while witnessing a changing society while Thomas reminisces over the certain destruction of his youth and vitality, even with different concerns both authors problems are due to passing time. Both poems have a certain contrast when explaining their theme but both are aware of the idea of death being a natural occurrence that awaits all of us. The two author s similarities are highlighted by a look at form, tone, words, and continuous use of nature to depict theme. In The Darkling Thrush the speaker ponders how slow death surrounds him, and how life is diminishing with almost no reason to live in a new era full of dullness. The speaker shows intense reflection over his thoughts and works through his ideas. When the speaker hears a beautiful song coming from a dying bird, his dark realistic perspective of living changes as he sees that the birds last breaths were spent singing a song. He continues to be realistic over the topic of death and not overthink the full hearted evensong (Hardy 615), but the bird gives him a chance to think about something more hopeful in this bleak world. The bird, a thrush which is found in nature symbolizes the natural side of death. Even if it was passing, the bird reflected his soul in song creating the idea of a death just being a lulling moment in a gloom lonely world; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Ottoman Empire And Islamic Terrorism The Ottoman Empire and Islamic Terrorism Florida International University By Melinda Persaud November 7, 2014 Introduction What is known today as modern day Turkey, was once one of the most powerful empires in the world. They referred to this imperial state as the Ottoman Empire. The Purpose of the empire was to gain land , and spread their Islamic teachings. With this they had created a thirteenth century empire led by Osman, the founder of the Ottoman Empire. Osman surrounded himself with strong solders who specialized in ambushes, and hit and run tactics, they referred to these highly trained soldiers as Janissaries . The empire they built was the largest and most dominant of the Muslim empires. The decline of the Ottoman Empire led to terrorist movements, specifically Islamic terrorism. Wanting to spread their beliefs through violence, Islamic terrorist groups began to try to overpower certain nations. It not only existed in the later history but still seems to play a big role even today. This has spread throughout the world from the horrific tragedy of the World Trade Center all the way to the multiple bombings in the London Underground. Specifically, the essay will consider the feasability of the belief at that time that the Delphi oracle possessed credibility with the people. At the outset of the drama the priest of Zeus and the crowd of citizens of Thebes are gathered before the royal palace of Thebes talking to King Oedipus about the plague which is ravaging the city. The king is sorely troubled and laments the sad situation. Then he says: I have sent Menoeceus son, Creon, my consort s brother, to inquire Of Pythian Phoebus at his Delphic shrine, How I might ... And for the duration of the tragedy the characters explicitly or implicitly acknowledge their total belief in the directions of the Delphic oracle as the only means of ridding Thebes of the plague. Historically speaking, did the Delphic oracle have such credibility among the populace? For an answer to this question we go to The Histories of Herodotus. Herodotus was called the Father of History by Cicero and others. He lived and wrote in the fifth century BC just like Sophocles. As a contemporary, Herodotus knew and wrote about the beliefs and customs of the ancient Greeks as an historian, not as a litterateur. Herodotus was therefore interested in a factual presentation, not in an imaginative presentation such as Sophocles sought for as a dramatist. Herodotus, therefore, can be relied upon to either substantiate or contradict the validity of the situation in Oedipus Rex where the realism of the drama rests considerably on the claimed belief in the infallibility of the Delphic oracle. Let us examine a portion of The Histories that describes Athens, since Sophocles lived in Athens and wrote for an Athenian audience and even had Oedipus die at Colonnus, a suburb of Athens. In Book V Herodotus describes the engagement between the Athenians and the Boeotians, who were defeated; then another victory for Athens

Liberals believe the government has an important place both as a regulator in the public interest and to assist those with lower incomes. On the other hand, they still oppose government intervention in matters of personal autonomy. Conservatives feel there is too much government interference, particularly at the federal level, in the economy. My essay will attempt to show the similarities that are in these two writings which seem to have been scribed at the same time or around the same time. Most similarities, of which are namely: the dates of the scribing of the two Epistles, the false doctrines of the false teachers that had come into the church, the same thoughts and expressions of their work, whether the writings are apostolic or not, and what hardships the churches or the two audiences were facing. The Epistle of Jude has been said to be inscribed very late, but it might not have been inscribed after A.D. 70, which was the destruction of Jerusalem. The book of Enoch is possibly one of the oldest books, for it is said, Enoch walked with God . Enoch is also said to have preached to many, even angels! Nevertheless, even if Jude quoted from Enoch s writings, he was just as the Paul who quoted from the verses of the Old Testament, and to Peter who referred to some of the Epistles of Paul. Even if there so many similar scriptures found in Jude and 2 Peter, it is just the Holy Spirit in both men. According to the style of writing of the two apostles, it seems the churches or their audiences were going through the same hardships. As mentioned above, they all had problems with false teachers, and Peter states that some would fall away into accepting the doctrines of these men, and follow the pernicious ways of these men (2 Peter 2:2) . So, there is a possibility that their audiences were all facing the same difficulties and hardships. • 27. Feeling Death in The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien War is often thought about as something that hardens a soldier. It makes a person stronger emotionally because they are taught not show it and deal with it internally. People say that death in war is easier to handle because it is for the right reasons and a person can distance themselves from the pain of losing someone. However, there is always a point when the pain becomes too real and it is hard to maintain that distance. In doing so, the story disputes the idea that witnessing a traumatic event causes a numbing or blockage of feelings. Rat Kiley s progression of sentiment began with an initial concern for the buffalo, transforming into an irate killing of the animal, and then ending with an ultimate acceptance of death. These... Rat was so overcome by emotion that he was unable to speak to the others. He could not verbally express how he was feeling. When Rat went to leave, he did not just carry his gun. Instead, Rat cradled his rifle (76). The act of cradling the gun implied that Rat was seeking comfort from his actions. He was also seeking reassurance while he was grieving his loss. This is when Rat could no longer deny the reality of war and death. Most of the other feelings were defenses; they helped him maintain that distance for a little bit longer. When Rat was finally able to cry over the death, the distance was completely gone. Rat was able to enter the grieving process and cope with Curt dying. The crying was an apparent display of his acceptance of death. By facing the death head on, Rat became a stronger soldier because he was not suppressing emotions. The other soldiers in the platoon did not know how to react to the display. As the narrator stated, We had witnessed something essential, something brand new and profound, a piece of the world so startling there was not yet a name for it (76). Since the other soldiers were not used to seeing outward presentations of grieving, the entire event was perplexing and foreign to them. They were unsure of how to react or even proceed. THE END OF HISTORY AND THE LAST MAN ignores the confusing events and details of most history and is more philosophical, even teleological, in its orientation. Hegel s concept of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis explained the process of history, with liberal democracy as the final synthesis according to Fukuyama. The Demon begins by presenting the mother figure lying in bed, dying and unable to care for herself. Shortly after, we see her difficult life flash before her eyes a life full of loneliness and sadness. The scene later switches to her sons going to hunt for food. During their hunting trip, the sons notice something follows them and eventually realize it was a demon. They immediately go home, only to watch their mother transform into said demon. The mother s transformation into a demon signifies how motherhood during old age transforms women into unwanted beings. Even though the sons love their mother, her frail condition hinders them, as she cannot assist around their home in any way. To describe this situation, Rebecca Copeland, in her essay, Mythical Bad Girls, compares a mother at old age to a womb that devours, she gives life and then takes it back. This comparison exhibits negative views about mothers. First, it shows how society views women solely as vessels for reproduction. Copeland s comparison of mothers to their reproductive organs not only objectifies women, but it also suggests women have no other purpose than reproducing. Second, Copeland s comparison implies that while a mother may bring life, she also takes it away through her requiring care during old age. Due to a mother requiring care, she impedes upon ...
