The objective of this SMART STEP project was to enhance and prioritize pedestrian safety and mobility at this high pedestrian demand intersection. Enhancements included the installation of a scramble crosswalk and upgrades to signage at the intersection. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six led the design and construction of the improvements, while the scramble crosswalk portion involved interagency coordination between FDOT District Six, the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW), and the Miami-Dade TPO. This project highlights innovation and accelerated project implementation to increase connectivity and enhance safety for pedestrians in Miami-Dade County.

COTA is conducting preliminary design, engineering and environmental clearance for the Cleveland Avenue Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project. The proposed service will transport riders between downtown Columbus and Polaris Parkway/Africa Road, connect with existing bus routes, and include new stations. COTA is creating a unique identity for the proposed BRT/Enhanced Bus Service for Cleveland Avenue.

In 2010, COTA began working to bring Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to Cleveland Avenue. Local Line 1 serving Cleveland Avenue/Livingston is the second busiest route in the system, with a majority of daily ridership occurring along Cleveland Avenue. Line 1 ridership averages nearly 4,800 daily weekday riders, often with standing room only.
COTA invites everyone to a number of public meetings to learn more about the BRT project. The public can provide valuable input into the project including development of unique branding for the BRT.
The TOD Study presented yesterday looked carefully at land use and transportation patterns, and then suggested the general contours for a reshaped downtown. Six potential development clusters were identified, including: the North Avenue Gateway (between Memorial Circle and I-95), the Central Corridor (between I-95 and the Metro-North tracks), Crossroads (the heart of the downtown, near the intersection of Huguenot and North), the West Gateway (where Huguenot and Main meet near Pintard), the East Gateway (around Echo Bay and Faneuil Park), and the I-95 Gateway (near the end of Palmer Avenue.)
