Multi-channel Detector Readout Integrated Circuits with ADCs for X-ray and Ga...Gunnar Maehlum
We are developing detector readout integrated circuits (ROICs) for X-ray and Gamma-ray spectroscopy. The ROICs are applications specific (ASICs) for satellite instrumentation in space. The ICs described in this article belong to the VATA family with integrated analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) for fully digital readout of x-ray and gamma-ray detectors. The VATAs are ideal for the readout of cadmium zinc telluride (CZT), cadmium telluride (CdTe), silicon pads and strips, and large area avalanche photodiodes (APDs) with scintillators.

2014 PV Distribution System Modeling Workshop: Interconnection Standards in California: A Regulatory Approach to a Fast-Changing Grid: Rachel Peterson, CPUC
Bill Carr, Senior Director, Transmission Analysis at Dynegy, uses AURORAxmp for short term, day-ahead forecasting.
In this presentation, he describes how AURORAxmp is front-loaded with transmission data from OASIS sites, with load, outage, fuel pricing and weather data from third-party vendors, and with load and fuel pricing and weather data from internal resources. The model is updated manually and automatically via linked data tables.
The updated model runs using AURORAxmp’s output templates. AURORAxmp gathers day-ahead and realtime numbers from the major trading hubs, and Carr reviews the numbers to make sure they make sense for the modeled time period.

Photovoltaic Module Energy Yield Measurements: Existing Approaches and Best P...Leonardo ENERGY
Recording at https://youtu.be/kiLmtTvM_N0
In this Webinar we present a summary of the technical report ‘Photovoltaic Module Energy Yield Measurements: Existing Approaches and Best Practice’ [IEA-PVPS Report T13-11:2018], prepared within the Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme (PVPS) of the International Energy Agency (IEA).
The presentations will focus on the measurement of modules in the field for the purpose of energy yield or performance assessments. The aim is to help anyone intending to start energy yield measurements of individual PV modules to obtain a technical insight into the topic, to be able to set-up his own test facility or to better understand how to interpret results measured by third parties.
Therefore, fifteen Task members with experience in PV module monitoring from over 30 test facilities installed all over the world have been interviewed . The questionnaire covered all aspects, starting from general questions on the scope of testing to the test equipment, procedures, maintenance practice, data analysis and reporting.
The current practices for energy yield measurements of individual PV modules applied by the major international research institutes and test laboratories will be presented together with some best practice recommendations. Beside the recent research activities will be presented by the two presenters, including test results from different climatic regions and different technologies such as bifacial and colored modules.
Mahindra Teqo offers complete solar pv module testing onsite and a dedicated team is assigned on-site and is equipped with specialised tools like IR camera, Power Analyzer, Thermographic hand-held camera and drone based.
A Photovoltaic (PV) emulator is a device that produces a similar output as the PV module and it is useful for testing the PV generation system. This paper present a new and simple control strategy for the PV emulator using the combination of the Resistance Comparison Method with the Integral Controller. The closed-loop buck converter system with the current-mode controlled and the single diode model are used for the PV emulator. The results obtained from the proposed PV emulator are compared with the conventional PV emulator using the Direct Referencing Method as the control strategy. The proposed PV emulator produces a more accurate output, 74 % faster transient response, and a lower output voltage ripple compared to the conventional PV emulator.
Development and comparison of deep learning toolkit with other machine learni...Valery Tkachenko
The next era of cheminformatics and pharmaceutical research in general is focused on mining the heterogeneous big data, which is accumulating at ever growing pace, and this will likely use more sophisticated algorithms such as deep learning. There has been increasing use of deep learning which has shown powerful advantages in learning from images and languages as well as many other areas. However the accessibly of this technique for cheminformatics is hindered as it is not available readily to non-experts, it is currently not in any of the major cheminformatics tools. It is therefore our goal to develop a deep learning algorithm and toolkit which can be used as a standalone or integrated in new software being developed by us such as the Open Science Data Repository (OSDR). We will show how classic machine learning (CML) methods (Naïve Bayes, logistic regression, Support Vector Machines etc.) compares to cutting edge deep learning and talk about challenges associated with deep neural networks (DNN) learning models. The open source Scikit-learn (http://scikit-learn.org/stable/) ML python library was used for building, tuning, and validating all CML models. The DNN learning models of different complexity (up to 6 hidden layers) were built and tuned (different number of hidden units per layer, multiple activation functions, optimizers, drop out fraction, regularization parameters, and learning rate) using Keras (https://keras.io/), a deep learning library, and Tensorflow (www.tensorflow.org) as a backend. All the developed pipelines consist of stratified splitting of the input dataset into train (80%) and test (20%) datasets. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and the area under the curve (AUC) were computed for each model for ADME/Tox and other physicochemical properties. DNN learning models were found to be very good in predicting activities and can outperform most of the CML models.
EPA Method 200.7, Trace Elements in Water, Solids, and Biosolids by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry, describes the procedure and requirements for multi-element determinations by ICP-AES. This presentation demonstrates the capability of the ICPE-9820, with the ASC-9800 Auto-sampler and the Standard Addition Kit, to produce quick, accurate results that comply with the method.
You will find here all the elements presented by the CENAPT team ( Drs. Guido Pauli and Charlotte Simmler) and pertaining to the NMR workshop at the American Society of Pharmacognosy (ASP 2017, Portland Oregon).
These slides summarize the different steps related to the implementation of quantitative NMR for purity analysis.
Novel Approaches to Omega-3 Stability Testing Nutrasource
In the last decade, nutritional oil products such as omega-3s have grown to a multi-billion dollar industry globally. As a result, new analytical testing challenges have arisen from the current trend toward producing more attractive and more appetizing products created for a wider consumer base.
In formulating these "new and improved," better looking and better tasting products, different color and flavor additives are used, which can interfere with the most popular analytical procedure for determining the secondary oxidation of nutritional oil products, the p-anisidine value test.
In order to overcome these analytical challenges, a new alternative method for testing these additive-laden products has been established and is ready for use in this fast growing marketing segment.
Dr. Steven Li provides details about the latest innovation in omega-3 testing and its application in the omega-3 industry, at GOED Exchange 2014.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.
