event? People are debating about whether everyone should have off of school and work on
February 5th, the day after the SuperBowl. Some people say that their child is just too tired to
learn, or that they can t go to work because they can t stay awake. Opposers say we have to go, it
s just another Monday to those who don t watch the SuperBowl, but many people are too tired to
go. This is due to people calling out of work, which causes the U.S. losing about 1 billion dollars
every year due to the lack of productivity and 16 million kids skip school the day after the
SuperBowl, causing more than half of school s students being out, and the kids who are actually
in school are too tired to learn anything. Schools and businesses should close the day after the
SuperBowl because schools have virtually no students come to school and big businesses lose
money. School should be closed the Monday after the SuperBowl because so many workers take off

A Traditional Indian Culture And American Culture
Identity and Names
The names we are given are essential in forming our identity. It is the way we are addressed by
everyone starting from birth. It is the beginning of how we define ourselves in our own terms `as
a result of growing up and experiencing life. In Indian culture, from The Namesake, the
grandmother chooses a good name for the child before they are born. Gogol was supposed to be a
pet name only used by family and close friends. For Gogol, his name highlights his differences to
everyone else, but more importantly, himself. He endures a consistent struggle with his two
cultures throughout the novel. He, as a young adult, is searching for acceptance of both his
traditional Indian culture and American culture. The Namesake, explores the theme of identity by
examining the differences of both cultures. He has two names and therefore two identities, Gogol
and Nikhil, and throughout the novel he looks for a way to incorporate them into one whole.
Naming a child following Bengali tradition is extremely different in comparison to American
culture. This highlights the importance of a child finding their own way in their own time, but
also allows the parents to choose the best name. When it comes to naming the child, that honor is
given to an elder relative. There are always two names that a Bengali child will have: a pet name
and a good name. In the case of Gogol the letter containing his names was never received and
considered lost. Therefore, his parents chose the name

Julius Caesar Tragic Hero Essay
Julius Caesar, a magnificent and well known tragedy by William Shakespeare. But in every
tragedy, there needs to be a tragic hero. But who is it? There have been many different
conspiracies of who the tragic hero was. The most probable person is Brutus. He fits all the
requirements to being one. From his noble stature, his fatal flaw, and his legacy he left to the
world. He is the perfect candidate of being Julius Caesars tragic hero. One of the requirements to
being a tragic hero is to have a noble stature. The reason why a tragic hero needs to be of noble
standing is so they are easily recognizable. So when their hamartia strikes, they fall hard. To back
this up, at one point Cassius says Brutus and Caesar. What is so special about the name Caesar

hero consists of having a fatal flaw. Brutus s fall was definitely caused by his trustworthiness.
Every tragic hero leaves a legacy, Brutus s legacy is a very important lesson. At the end of the book
Mark Antony remembers Brutus greatly,
This was the noblest Roman of them all.
All the conspirators save only he

Crime And Punishment Utilitarianism
Are there special human beings who are entitled to more rights and privileges than ordinary
humans? Rodia s theory in Dostoyevsky s novel, Crime and Punishment, addresses this question.
His desire to perform benevolent deeds for society converts him into a strong believer in his theory,
influencing him to commit murder. Through Rodia s experiment, the novelproves the theory false.
Dostoevsky uses his characterization of Raskolnikov to express criticism of the popular theory,
Utilitarianism.
Utilitarianism was a widespread theory in Russia during Dostoyevsky s era, a belief that
achieving a greater good for the society, in any method, was a moral right. For example, one
believes that an evil deed is invalidated by the morally justified outcome ... Show more content on

Similar to Rodia s dual personality, there are many contradictions within his theory. Rodia claims
that extraordinary humans commit crimes that are beneficial to society and thus, they have a
perfect right to commit breaches of morality and crimes, and the law is not for them (205). These
men have a right to take lead in society because they are given extraordinary tasks; at the same
time, they are above the ordinary men and can overlook their moral laws because the privileged
men s crimes are justified for their moral purposes. At the time of his murder, Rodia s theory is
underdeveloped and his crime was an experimentation. When Rodia confesses to Sonia, he says, I
wanted to murder without casuistry, to murder for my own sake, for myself alone! I didn t want to
lie about it even to myself (329). In truth, Rodia wanted to test out his theory, despite his
justifications, and find out if he was an extraordinary human and were given these rights. He
desperately wanted to feed his self esteem by placing himself superior to others. However, his
psychological battle, the constant guilt, uneasiness, and instability, confirmed that he is was not
granted these immortal rights. Ultimately, Rodia accepts the truth he had been rejecting and turns
himself in order to free himself from the guilt that captured him. In the end, Rodia had no
revolutionary cause to murder the

Comparing J. R. Simplot And Why The Fries Taste Good
I want to start out by summarizing both stories real quick. Why The Fries Taste Good is a short
biography of J.R Simplot, a man who created his own potato growing business and became a
billionaire. Eat local organic food if you like, but don t kid yourself that it s green is a story
about a man who is trying to inform those that just because you shop in a farmers market, you
aren t helping save the planet, but you re actually doing the opposite of helping. Both stories talk
about food and both involve growing food, but the general idea of each story differs from each
other. The first story is telling you the life story of Simplot, and the second is telling you why one
thing is bad over the other. I do believe that each story differs in telling... Show more content on

The reason I think this is because while reading the story, I noticed that Delingpole always had a
source to go with his statistic. For example, he quotes a study, saying as Matt Ridley records in
his The Rational Optimist A New Zealand lamb requires as quarter as much energy to get on to
a London plate as a Welsh one. This makes me think that there is reasonable research that has
been done, and that I could believe it. This isn t the only source either, he goes on to back a lot
of other claims too. It is a different story when it comes to Why the Fries Taste Good . There are
little to no sources in the story. The only quote Schlosser has is when he quoted Harvey
Levenstein. There are statistics in the story but have no credit to them, such as in 1960, the typical
American ate eighty one pounds of fresh potatoes and about four pounds of frozen french fries. The
other time is when Simplot was asked about his success. I mention this because where is the source
for this information? Schlosser could have easily made this information up, how do I know it s

Professionalism Definition Essay
Being a professional individual is something that most people strive to be,
however, the word professional can be interpreted many different ways depending
on ones job, position or certification. The Webster dictionary defines
professionalism as the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a
profession or a professional person. Google defines professionalism as the
practicing of an activity, especially a sport, by a professional rather than amateur
players. In Public Relations, professionalism is a huge part in how we do business.
If an individual acts unprofessionally by, for example being late or coming
unprepared for an important client meeting, you, your professionalism and your

When this happens it is hard for students to juggle professionalism as
well as setting aside time for school work with their personal lives, this is why it is
important to be in a program you enjoy and can dedicate a portion of your time to;
otherwise like the quote states, your quality work and motivation suffers.
In conclusion, even though professionalism has more than one definition, they all
have one thing in common and that similarity is clearly stated as someone who has
passion and commitment for what they do. There are many different ways to
improve a persons professionalism, some more obvious than others, like attending
class and handing assignments in on time. What I have learned is that even though I
don t agree with the definition of professionalism and how it is applied to college
students, I still owe my professors, other faculty and fellow students, who do enjoy
the program they are in, the respect and professionalism that they have shown

The first and second sources of infection are most common and very important we need to know.
Firstly, the skin site and the catheter hub may contaminate by the patient s endogenous skin flora
and by exogenous flora which on health care workers hands. The organisms may infect blood
stream through the skin insertion site or migrate along the external surface of the catheter and
migrate along the internal lumen of the catheter via the hub. The most common organisms found in
CLABSIs are including coagulase negative staphylococci, staphylococcus aureus, enterococci and
Candida.
Furthermore, the other important pathogenic determinants of CLABSI are the material of which
the device is made, the host factors consisting of protein adhesions such as fibrin and fibronectin
which form a sheath around the catheter and the intrinsic virulence factors of the infecting
organism, including the extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) produced by the adherent
organisms. Catheters made of surface irregularities materials are especially vulnerable to microbial
colonization and subsequent infection. This association has led to emphasis on preventing catheter
related thrombus as an additional mechanism for reducing CLABSIs.

Example Of Horror In Beowulf
Horror is the most personal media genre because of how it can uniquely connect an audience to the
traumatic aspects of human struggle. As a result, I like to define horror like this: horror is any
instance when an audience is given an uncomfortable look at something that disturbs them. This
definition is intended to give room for a cultural interpretation to horror; if something would have
scared someone in the past because of something unique about their culture, it can still be
considered horror. This is the primary vehicle with which I ll argue that horror has existed as long
as the English language has. Looking back at the medieval horror excerpts and Beowulf, there are
many elements that would scare the audiences of their times that wouldn t immediately affect a
modern audiencewithout thorough analysis. Because audiences in the Middle Ages were
terrified of God, descriptions of hell and punishment were works of horror centered around fear
of the divine. Likewise in Beowulf, in addition to containing an explicit, modern esque monster
in Grendel, Grendel s Dam would have been seen as a horrifying figure because women were
mostly used as negotiable objects for marriage in the 700s. In these ways, these works are
evidence that horror has been around since before Frankenstein. The Medieval passages we read
were what really sealed the idea that cultural beliefs can make a past work considered horror. These
stories contain vivid descriptions of hell and punishment. For

Lenders will charge higher interest rates than for conventional mortgages as they seek to

Banks became increasingly worried about both the value of their own mortgage books and
particularly the value of the mortgage securitised investments they had bought from other
institutions As a result they became reluctant to lend to other banks in the short term money
markets. This crisis of confidence led to major liquidity problems for many banks and insurance
companies worldwide. Liquidity means the ability of institutions, including banks, to meet their

Adversity And Struggle In Billy Elliot
Billy Elliot Billy Elliot was a story of adversity and struggle. It follows a young boy who
becomes a great success at ballet after he starts attending dance classes instead of his boxing
classes. The play uses parallel storylines of the struggle for coal mine workers rights and Billy s
struggle to become a great dancer. It takes place in an impoverished town in the UK during the
80 s but it was performed in 2017 at the Berkeley playhouse. The play is impactful because it
satires gender stereotypes and advocates for the payoff of hard work. My favorite character was
the ballet teacher. The actress made great use of the stage and her props. I loved the way she
swayed in her fur lined silk robe and how she used her faux cigarette. It really conveyed the life
story of the character and made her stand out. It gives her an aura of strength but also a certain
feeling of tragedy as if she had always wanted to become a star. Her beat changes were very

Her first challenge comes when Billy himself does not want to do ballet because of his
preconceived ideas that only girls and gay boys do it. The teacher pursues her objective by
being stern and demanding. This gets Billy to take dancing seriously and she furthers her goal.
However, trouble comes when Billy s father finds out that he is not doing his boxing lessons. The
teacher tackles this with her stern tactics from before but intermixes an appeal of sympathy for
Billy s talent. Unfortunately, she is unsuccessful and has to result to being secretive in order for
Billy s father not to find out. The conflict between the two characters was very intense due to
conflicting objectives and strong tactics; it raised the stakes and grabbed the attention of the
audience. This makes the viewer root for Billy to succeed despite his

Why Virginia Is The Commonwealth Of Virginia
Introduction
Virginia, officially known as the Commonwealth of Virginia, is one of the thirteen original states in
the United States and used to be the first colonial possession established in mainland British
America. Due to this reason, Virginia is often called the Old Dominion in many times. According to
the historical data and statistics, eight American presidents were born in Virginia, which is more
than any other states in the country. Therefore, Virginia is also known as the Mother of Presidents .
With a total area of 42,774.3 square miles, Virginia is located in the South Atlantic region of the
United States and is bounded by Maryland, North Carolina, State of Tennessee, Kentucky and
District of Columbia.
As an international student, I came to America last summer. It was my first time in the United
States, and Virginia was my first stop. After studying and living in this beautiful state for nearly
half a year, I find that the longer I live here, the more I want to know about it. Hence, I choose
Virginia as the topic of my Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) analysis paper to
take a deep look at the state. The main purpose of my paper is to give an analysis of the overall
financial health of Virginia. To access to the goal, I will first examine the quality of CAFR, go
through the economic condition, break out the budget, take a brief look at the fund types and
finally analysis the financial health of Virginia. The CAFR is for the fiscal year ended June

Violence in Mass Media
Violence in Mass Media
Violence is everywhere and in everything from what we see to what we hear. Today s society
has become acquainted with the violence in video games, tv shows, movies, and music since it
is everywhere but many have become too attached to this violence and brought it to real life.
Many assume that getting rid of this violence is essential to a more passive and peaceful society
but there are more benefits to the portail of violence that society sees today. One of the key items
that people assume that is the reason children of this society are more violent, is video games
but they started as all things do, a harmless activity for fun. The first videogame was Pong and
that was considered a fun game for everyone then to the game, Dungeons and Dragons, which
had actual text and story and so on and after one of the most famous games, Legend of Zelda,
games started to become more action packed and violent. Every game after Legend of Zelda
started to become more violent, longer stories and better graphics in the 1980 s but when it hit
the 1990 s, games started to become more 3 D and realistic. People fear that because they are
becoming more realistic every year that when people play them, they will be so lost in the
violence and story that they will drag it into real life like the Newtown shooter, who said that he
used Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 video game to train before the shooting. Video games have changed

We can change our fate by making right decisions even though fate is controlling us. However,
fate plays a part too in everything (Fate and Free Will in Sophocles Oedipus the King). Besides
that, human beings must be responsible for their own actions. The characters choices they make
throughout their lives led to downfall, Jocasta and Laius are responsible for their own deaths
indirectly, and Oedipus is responsible for his ruin. Once they commit something, they must admit it
like Oedipus where he admits his responsibility. Also, in the case of Oedipus, he did not find out
the correct thing before he did his actions, thus Sophocles trying to say that humans must get things

Aging With Grace By David Snowdon
Promoting Shalom with Older Adults Aging with Grace by David Snowdon does a fantastic job
at addressing different issues that older adults face when it comes to cognitive function.
However, Snowdon does not limit this book to just that. He conducted a research project where
he interacted with the older generation of nuns. Originally, he treated them as just test subjects
in his study of Alzheimer s disease. As his research progressed, he soon realized that he could
not just treat the nuns like lab rats. One of the younger nuns approached him and said I ll move
forward with your request, buy you need to listen carefully to what I am about to say. No matter
what you do, I want you to remember who these women are. They are real people. Very dear to
us. They are holy people, too. I don t want you to treat them as research subjects. Get to know

sisters, and we treat them with the care and respect they deserve, we will expect nothing less

experiment. He began getting to know their past and how that has affected each of them to this

The current popular culture that exists along with increasingly hyperbolical legal dramas that is
discoverable on a television drama channel may fool many into the idea that professional
conduct and legal ethics isn t even given a second of thought and is all but lost in the legal

Lord Bingham states that lawyers should discharge their professional duties with integrity,
probity and complete trustworthiness . Integrity is valued very highly in the field of law and it
is also agreed that it is not an absurd or an improbable expectation from the public that all
solicitors should be acting with the utmost integrity at all times . This, along with many other
fundamental concepts that are also entrenched fully within the Solicitor Regulation Authority

The Need for International Labor Standards
The statesman, who should attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ

authority which could safely be trusted, not only to no single person, but to no single council or

regime it is prudent to examine the historical background of the issue. The first legal link made
between trade and labor standards in the United States manifested itself in the form of legislation
designed to reduce the threat of foreign goods being dumped into U.S. markets. The first laws
were implemented to this end in 1890, when the McKinley Tariff Act banned the import of goods
made with prison labor (International Labor Rights Fund). However, concern for labor rights was
merely a convenient byproduct of this legislation. In 1930 Congress took another step by passing
into law the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930, which banned the import of goods made with forced or
indentured labor.
The postwar era brought about a more multinational approach to dealing with trade issues, most
notably in the establishment of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in 1948.
Although there were high hopes that international labor standards could be established, the GATT
made only vague references to the issue, and no concrete and enforceable standards were
established. Thus, there was no provision for member states to take action against other members

Peanut Butter And Hummus Comparison
There are enough small kitchen appliances on the market that, assuming you had the cash, you
could use a different one each night for dinner for an entire year. With this in mind, I ve narrowed
down the most critical ones to the three that I most frequently use. Two of them are very similar,
but do very different things; and the other is a low tech tool that can be used for nearly every meal.
Food processor I have two food processors that I always use. A 3 cup KitchenAid Chef s Chopper
and the 14 cup Cuisinart Custom 14 food processor. Both of them get equal use, but for very
different things. I love to make peanut butter and hummus with the large one, and sauces, dressings,
and bread crumbs with the small one. Both machines are

Free-Will Vs Predestination
In order to answer the question, How do we reconcile our free will with the sovereignty and
determination of God? successfully, we must first define the terms free will and predestination. In
reference to the subject of salvation, free will means man s ability to choose the way to salvation
or not. Basically, it is man s ability to choose Godwithout God s help. On the other hand,
predestinationrefers to the fact that God has chosen before the foundation of the world those
whom He wishes to save and those whom He wishes to condemn. In other words, man is chosen
to be saved by God, not for anything that he does, but simply because the Lord has chosen him for
His good pleasure. Although it may seem simple at first, this question of free willversus
predestination is really not that easy to unravel. First, free will must be further defined in the
context of pre Fall, unregenerate, regenerate, and glorified man. Before the Fall, Adam and Eve
were perfect image bearers of God. They had the ability to choose to sin and the ability to choose
not to sin. In Latin, this state is best known as posse peccare, posse non peccare. After the Fall, the
man was in an unregenerate state with the ability to sin but through the Fall he had lost the ability

The answer is simple he cannot choose to go against his nature. If the man is unregenerate, he
cannot choose not to sin. In order for him ever to come into cooperation with God, then, he must
be made alive through regeneration, which is solely the work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ
Himself declared, No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will
raise him up at the last day (John 6:44). In John 8:36, Christ declares that if the son sets you free,
then you are free indeed. Nevertheless, Scripture never mentions man freeing or saving himself of
his own free

Theseus And The Labyrinth In Greek Theatre
The myth of Theseus and the Labyrinth can be transformed into an Athenian tragedy because there
is not an abundance of characters, there is a unity of action, and a unity of time. To adapt this myth
of Theseus into an Athenian tragedy, a few changes would have to be made. One drastic change
that I would implement is something completely new to the Athenian theatre; I would use the
audience as part of the play. Constructing and displaying a labyrinthon the stage would be
incredibly difficult to pull off therefore I would have the audience seated in a labyrinth type
structure in addition to having a small section that leads to the back of the stage as this is where the
minotaurwould be. In addition to using the audience as a labyrinth, the composition of the chorus
would contribute to the importance of Theseustask of killing the minotaur.... Show more content on

The chorus would be composed of the seven men and women sent into the labyrinth every year to
feed the minotaur. Choosing the sacrificed people to serve as the chorus further intensifies the
importance for Theseus to kill the minotaur because if he fails, the cycle will continue and
countless people will have to be sacrificed to feed the beast. In Agamemnon by Aeschylus, the
chorus consists of old men whom are citizens of Argos (Aeschylus Agamemnon 1. 40 43). The
chorus in Agamemnon serves as a wise voice to the audience whereas the chorus of this play
would be slightly sinister and foreboding, however, it would still serve the purpose of explaining to
the audience the importance of the task at

Use Of Lighting In Epic Theatre
Epic Theatre
Lighting in Epic Theatre was used to create a non naturalistic environment. In realistic theatre the
lighting is used to establish the place, time, season etc, but in epic theatre it was used to keep the
world as far away from reality as possible, with lighting not reflecting the world in which the
audience live in. Bright, white lighting is often used to establish the non naturalistic nature of epic
theatre worlds as well as being un emotional as colorful lighting would illicit emotional responses
from the audience and ultimately wouldn t alienate and illicit analysis from the audience. It also
allows the audience to focus on the plays keep themes and message as it doesn t distract the

Shakespeare s thoughts on Modern Culture
To aide in this paper, I have chosen the song We didn t start the Fire, by Billy Joel to help provide
modern events that William Shakespeare s works can relate to. Shakespeare s plethora of works
provide information about his thoughts on society during his life. Many events and topics that are
seen in modern culture are relatable to events that occurred during Shakespeare s life, such as
government, assassinations, and controversies. Shakespeare s characters from his many plays
reflect his thoughts and provide an instant ability to connect modern culture back through
Shakespeare s writing.
Government in England during the time of Shakespeare s life consisted of a Monarchy.
In the United States the governmental system used is a Representative Democracy (Kurtus).
Shakespeare in his life had a strong view on government, Fit to be govern? You re not fit to live,
(Macbeth) Shakespeare writes this as Macduff frets over the future of Scotland with Macbeth in
command. Shakespeare writes these lines talking about Macbeth, but the lines send a message
about Shakespeare s thoughts on government. Shakespeare s opinions would still be strong today,
with corrupt political systems, the United States needs a man such as William Shakespeare to bring
attention through literature to the ruins of our nation s political system.

Abstract: Whereas organizations traditionally approach sustainability from a technical perspective,
and strive to do things better , we argue that the sustainability challenges of our time require
companies to do things differently . This differentiation and market creation strategy will allow
companies to sufficiently leverage sustainability as a business opportunity. We introduce the

This research aims to contribute not only to academic literature, but also to business by creating
practical insights for managers to facilitate SI within their organizations. The resulting model
serves as a basis in answering how organizations can become capable of SI.
This paper starts by providing a theoretical background and describing the methodology of our
research. Subsequently we will briefly discuss a number of cases and thereafter present the
theoretical framework and the corresponding organizational capabilities, alongside initial support.
We will finish by offering directions for future research.
1
Theoretical basis
Prior to discussing the relevant theories concerning the development of the capabilities model for SI
we will discuss the changing position of sustainability in an academic and business context.
In the past 20 years, a shift has been observed in the global sustainability agenda from legislation to
sustainability as a competitive advantage. This is illustrated by the significance of an international
agreement such as the Kyoto Protocol in 1997 versus the voluntary carbon neutral commitments
that several businesses (HSBC and BT to name a few) made a mere decade later. The
aforementioned example also demonstrates how public pressure can influence corporate response.
The Kyoto protocol was conceived at a time when governments were held accountable for
sustainability issues, whereas organizations are expected to take their

Ethics And Ethics Of Ethics Essay
In this essay, I will consider several popular theories discussed by well known philosophers that
will help me decide ethical dilemma. The situation is that one of my coworker has been using
work place resource to run personal side business. She tells me a convincing story of personal
adversity and struggling to get ahead, and ask to meet next day to talk about. About the same time,
I receive and email reminding all employees that the work place ethicscode forbids using work
place resources for personal financial profit. To make ethically right decision in this ethical
dilemma, I will focus on the philosophers standpoint and reasoning of ethics of care, ethics of justice
, utilitarian ethics and universal principle to analyze the situation. In this tough situation, my
conclusion is that I will not report this action to the higher authority although she is violating work
place ethics code. I will provide my reasoning why I will not report this to the higher authority in
this essay.
Before I make any decision and report this to higher authority, I will use ethics tests to construct an
effective decision. There are steps on making ethical decisions. First, the viral test, what happens if
I report this? Would this make a headline news? Would this news negatively impact the reputation
of the company? Even though her action is obliviously violating professional ethics, it is important

Essay on America Needs Tort Reform
According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform, The tort system is truly
broken and in bad need of repair. Tort cases are becoming an extremely common fight in the
nation s legal system. Since 1986, 38 of the 50 United States have adopted some sort of tort reform.
However, with the many flaws of the tort system today, the suffering American economy will
continue to fall behind if the American public does not insist on fighting for justice in the legal
system. The governing bodies of these states must continue to seek reform and propose strategies to
fix the corruption in the tort system. The legal system set up by the founding fathers will

Reform is needed.
In 2005, the estimated cost of the tort system in the United States was approximately 260.8
billion dollars. Broken down, every U.S. citizen spends approximately 880 dollars annually on
litigation taxes which fund United States tort cases (Balik, Carl). Understanding these numbers, it
is absurd to think that a family of 6 spends approximately $5,280 each year on frivolous cases in
the nation s judicial system. With each U.S. citizen paying roughly $1,000 on cases of tort, it is
obvious that the system is being abused. Caps in the tort system limit the amount of money a jury
can award a victim. These need to be put in place in order to prevent further damage to the nation s
economy and further abuse to the county s legal system.
Lawsuits of medical malpractice may be the greatest threat to justice in the legal system. Tort
cases are constantly filed against medical practices which cause health care prices to dramatically
increase in states lacking caps. Medical practitioners are forced to undergo an unnecessary amount
of costly tests and procedures in order to defend themselves from frivolous lawsuits. The expenses
of these precautions cause hospitals and other medical facilities to charge more for the care given to
the patients,

Babbage was so fascinated with designing his analytical engine that he never built one. One
design would suggest an improvement, then another, and another because he could never stop
short of perfection. Shortly before his death in 1871 he wrote: If I survive some few years
longer, the Analytical Engine will exist, and its works will afterwards be spread over the world.
For more than a century his work would lie dormant, waiting other times and other people to

One of the few bright spots in Babbage s life was his friendship with Augusta Ada (1816 1852),
countess of Lovelace and daughter of the poet Lord Byron. The countess had a gift for
mathematics and engineering and was one of the few who really understood Babbage s work. She

The Aspects Of The Moral Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
In the General Prologue of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Host instructs the pilgrims to tell
Tales of best sentence and moost solaas (GP 798). In other words, in order to win the contest, the
pilgrims must tell stories which both impart serious meaning/wisdom ( sentence ) as well as
entertainment ( solaas ). While the pilgrims all achieve these two goals to varying degrees, The
Pardoner s Tale seems at first to succeed very well in providing both moralteaching and
entertainment. However, while his tale effortlessly satisfies the solaas requirement, the Pardoner
cannot truly provide the sentence he aims for, as his lesson degrades into hypocrisy and he lacks
the respect from the other pilgrims necessary to afford his tale the impact he intends.
The Pardoner s Tale, an exemplum intended to demonstrate the phrase radix malorum est cupiditas
(greed is the root of all evil), tells of three riotoures (degenerates) who wish to find and kill Death.
(Pard 334, 463). A mysterious old mantells them that Death resides underneath a nearby tree, under
which the three men find a sack of gold instead. However the men do indeed find Death underneath
the tree, as they end up killing each other due to their own greed. This tale easily satisfies the solaas
requirement in its entertainment value. Firstly, the tale contains elements of mystery which make it
interesting. For example, the old man that points the three men to their demise is both
enigmatically old and inexplicably

Gender seems to be a hot topic in our society; many people feel the pressure to conform to a
specific gender stereotype without really being aware of what they are or their influences on our
perception. So what is a gender role? A genderrole is the overt expression of attitudes that indicate
to others the degree of your maleness or femaleness. A common gender stereotype in our culture has
been that a woman s place is as a homemaker, and caregiver, while men are expected to provide

Cinderella, she never gets up the courage to confront her stepmom or stand up for herself.
I will now properly introduce to you the princess that started it all, the fairest of by far, Snow
White. Disney first released Snow White into the public in the1930 s. What set her apart was her
stunning beauty, something she has no control over, but was born into. Snow white was never seen
as anything more than a pretty face and a sweet nature. She was at the mercy of men, the dwarfs,
the huntsman, and the prince, to save her from an untimely death. Despite the warnings from the
dwarfs, and her current situation Snow went ahead and ate the poisonous apple from the disguised
witch. This only exemplifies Snow Whites weakness, and how easily she gives into temptation.
Snow White has a few talents which include, cooking, cleaning, and singing.
One of the most popular princesses, stayed out passed her curfew, came home missing a shoe,
and had lied to her stepmother as to her whereabouts. Cinderella is a princess that some would
say is a rag to riches story. I mentioned her earlier as being born into wealth, which is true

delicate, and last but not least beautiful. She lived and tolerated years of abuse from her stepmother

The Rights Of Animal Rights
Animal Rights
Animals Rights is a big discussion that has been around for while. Many argue since animals aren
t human, it doesn t matter how they are treated or taken care of. There are others that do care how
our animals are treated and taken care of. Animal rights are rights believed to belong to animals to
live free from use in medical research, hunting, and other services to humans. This topic has been
around for a while but has become more absolute (Environmental Encyclopedia, Opposing
Viewpoint). Animal rightsinvolves personal, social, legal, religious, cultural values, belief, and
decisions. This alone causes the viewpoint to vary based on many factors. Add in the many
benefits animals have for humans and the lines are blurred further. Animals should be treated
humanely as they are living breathing beings and are aware of their lives. Animals have similar
levels of biological complexity, they make conscious choices, and they are conscious and aware
they exist.
Animals should have rights because many of them provide companionship for humans. Therapy
dogs are canines that might be trained to provide affection and comfort to people in
hospitals, nursing homes, schools, disaster areas, and people with autism (General SHCS Info).
Farm animals provide services for humans such as producing milk, eggs, and wool. Animals like
horses can be used to pull a plow, wagon, carriage, and can be ridden to go to places. 62% of all

Essay about Hallucinogen
Hallucinogen
While many drugs speed up or depress the central nervous system, there is a class of drugs that
distorts how we feel, hear, see, smell, taste, and think.
Called hallucinogens because users often hallucinate, or experience nonexistent sensations, these
drugs are also known as psychedelic, or mind bending, drugs.
Some hallucinogens come from natural sources; others are made in laboratories.
Examples of natural hallucinogens are mescaline, psilocybin, DMT, and marijuana.
Mescaline, which has been used by American Indians in religious ceremonies, comes from the
peyote cactus. Psilocybin, also used by the Indians and believed to have supernatural powers, is

The effects of hallucinogens on the body are unpredictable. They depend on the amount taken and
the user s personality, mood, expectations, and surroundings. Although hallucinogens do not
produce a physical addiction, users do develop a tolerance, so that increasing amounts must be
taken to achieve the same effect. Psychological dependence on hallucinogens is well documented.
It appears that each drug carries its own risks. For example, unlike hallucinogens such as LSD and
synthetics such as DOM that consist of a single chemical, marijuana has been found to contain more
than 400 separate substances.
These substances are in turn broken down in the body into a great many more chemicals, and the
effects of these chemicals on the user are poorly understood.
It has been found, however, that the most potent of these chemicals are attracted to and accumulate
in fatty tissues, including the brain and reproductive organs.
Studies indicate that frequent marijuana users may experience impaired short term memory and
learning ability and reproductive problems. Other studies suggest that frequent or chronic marijuana
use may contribute to damage of the immune system, increased strain on the heart, delayed puberty,
and chromosome damage. The most pronounced psychological effects induced by hallucinogens
are a heightened awareness of colors and patterns together with a slowed perception of time and a
distorted body image. Sensations may seem to quot;cross over, quot; giving

Compare And Contrast The Renaissance Art And European Art
Compare and Contrast Essay
Compare and Contrast works of art that represent the 15th Century Early Renaissance art and 16th
Century Northern European art. The artists Masaccio and Grunewald will be used to illustrate the
differences and similarities in the styles of art. Their works of art are chosen for their interpretation
of the style that was representative during these eras. Early Renaissance artists used mathematical
one point linear perspective to create illusions of depth and depicted the human body as realistic
and natural. Northern European artist used medieval mysticism and intense emotional spirituality
and they used illustrative human figures rather than realistic depictions. By understanding the
corresponding and distinctions between these two works of art we can understand why they created
their artwork in the respective style to their era.
The first work of art is a fresco titled Trinity with the Virgin Mary, John the Evangelist, and the
Donors (Holy Trinity) by artist Masaccio during the Early Renaissance c. 1425
1427/1428. The fresco is located on the wall of the Church of Santa Maria Novella in Florence,
Italy. Brunelleschi s experiments on linear perspective and architecture had an influence on
Masaccio s art.
The second work of art is an oil painting on wood panel titled Isenheim Altarpiece by artist
Grunewald in c. 1510 1515. It was located in the chapel of the St. Anthony abbey hospital near

Nobody Knows Sparknotes
Making jokes is the best way for people to create connections. However, a person s sense of
humor makes a huge difference in joking telling because jokes can offend people and has
various consequences. Making jokes about people is common between friends because a man
can understand that his friend only wants to get a couple laughs out of him and that his joke
shouldn t be taken to heart. In the short story Nobody Knows, a man, who clearly has not
mastered English, comes up to a random man asking him to explain a fight to a nearby cop. When

The kid throws a punch at the man and a ten second fight breaks out. The way everything played
out, the man started the fight because the kid could have interpreted the joke has the man
insulting his art skills. Another reason why the man is at fault is that he didn t even know the
person so why would he make a joke about his dick for? Plus, talking about dick does lead to
fights at times, depending on how people throw the word dick around. After the ten second
round ends, the man finds the stranger to help him explain the situation to the nearby cop. If I
was the cop, the first thing I would tell the man is, Sir, please learn how to speak and write English
properly because you sound like a kid trying to read a physics textbook. And second of all, why
would you hit a kid with a bottle if he tried to punch you? The man could have easily done serious

Three Muslim Themes
This week s reading were very eye opening for me because it brought up subjects that I do not think
about often, but there was three themes in particular that stand out in helping me understand Arab
Muslims better. One theme is doing research about the Muslim religion. As Rheam suggested,
researching about the Muslimculture would could give you some background knowledge about a
client s culture and possibly information about where a client is coming from (Rheam Dr. Garzon,
personal communication, n.d.). For instance, some Arab and Muslim communities are tribal in
nature where the small communities function as a family to some extent. Therefore, a counselor
approaches a Muslim Client as needing independence might go against his or her beliefs.

The Glass Castle And Angela s Ashes
Growing up I didn t have a lot of time to read, I did not grow up in a stable environment for
children to thrive. When I was in the third grade my life would take a drastic turn into a
downward direction. My mother whom I loved so much changed drastically, started locking us
out of the house. Doing any type of homework was impossible to accomplish when you are
stranded outside. Later that year my parents got a divorce. There was constant turmoil; my mother
was now living with a man that would later become my stepfather. Their relationship was very
toxic; at first my stepfather seemed charming, we traveled to places we have never been to before.
After a couple of years, things changed, they couldn t manage their finances and we were constantly

Not directly but my sister was a young teenager she struggled with many of the issues dealt with

not having a strong support system at home. I was a year older than her but I remember at least
five occasions when she tried to commit suicide, I never understood the reason behind these
attempts. As an adult I read her notebook containing several of her letters, the only conclusion I
come to, be that she had some chemical imbalance that was never documented. When my sister
was high on drugs she was prone to outburst and mental breakdowns. As a teenager I was only
allowed to visit my sister one time when she was in the mental hospital. My parents must have seen
the effect the visit had on me and would not let me go subsequent times. I cannot image what these

Ben Mezrich s The Accidental Billionaires
The Silicon Valley is the most ferocious jungle in the world, full of money, lying, love, and hate.
Programmers have one mantra: Keep up or die trying. Ben Mezrich beautifully embodied all of
this in his book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook. Facebook, now a $547
billion dollar company, drove best friends Mark and Eduardo apart. Mark Zuckerberg, a genius
hacker who was so advanced he was on an F.B.I watchlist, and Eduardo Saverin, a genius investor
who was confident and dressed well, both met at a Phoenix Club punching event. The Phoenix
club was the club for the socially elite, and both were invited on account of being geniuses. When
Eduardo was invited to the next event and eventually was invited to join, it was apparent that Mark

Mark was heartbroken due to his girlfriend breaking up with him. He decided to create a website
that would compare two girls together so he could get revenge on every girl out there. (At this
point Mark was heavily intoxicated.) When he finished, he let some of his friends try it. It
spread like wildfire, getting so many uses that the universities bandwidth completely crashed.
Mark got reprimanded, and he decided to take up a more well perceived project. Two very rich
twins asked him to code their dating website, and he took it up. He later realized that there were
many fundamental flaws in the site and dropped away. He started his own venture:
thefacebook.com. Eduardo provided the initial money and it was a hit. It spread like an
infection and 4000 users had joined by the night. As things grew, Mark decided to move to the
silicon valley to be right in the middle of the tech industry. That s where Sean Parker came into
play. He was a wild spirit and was an idol to Mark. Sean wanted Eduardo out of the company, and
when billionaire Peter Thiel invested into the company, Eduardo was diluted

Clownish Elements In Trickster Tales
People read Trickster Tales many times during their lifetime and although they can be very different
by the means of plot, setting, and characters, they can be tightly interconnected by certain,
unnoticed, hidden elements that we as readers don t think much of as we are reading. The
incorporation of these hidden elements in a story help to form a Trickster Tale, such as humorous
/clownish elements, uses of anthropomorphism, and the characters use of brain over brawn. A story
has to contain these elements to be considered a Trickster Tale and all of the tales are connected
through these elements. The qualities are widely emphasized in the three Trickster Tales provided,
as the three characters; Anansi, Master Cat, and Coyote, possess each of these qualities in their
own style. First of all, the use of humorous/clownish elements is in all Trickster Tales, which the
trickster uses to his advantage. Humorous/clownish elements can be found in, How Stories
Came to Earth, as Anansi tricks the other character by stating, Fool, I am taking you to pay for
the sky god s stories. For instance, the trickster, Anansi, fools the leopard by digging a hole and
concealing it to trap the leopard inside, thereby making the leopard look ridiculous in order to
obtain the sky god s stories. More of these elements can be found in, Coyote Steals Fire, in which
Coyote uses all of his resources to the best of his ability as it is stated that, He distracted Thunder
and made him blink. Then,

Illness
Diabetes: The most serious complication of diabetes for the eye is the development of diabetic
retinopathy. Diabetes affects the tiny blood vessels of the eye and if they become blocked or leak
then the retina and possibly your vision will be affected.
Measles: Measles blindness is the single leading cause of blindness among children in low income

Congenital
When someone is born with combined sight and hearing difficulties this is called congenital
Deafblindness. Examples of this include conditions such as Rubella or CHARGE. Congenital can
also refer to people who have lost vision/ hearing before the acquisition of language, i.e. in their
very early years.
From skillsforcare.org.uk
Deaf: deaf with a small d simply refers to the medical condition of hearing loss. However, most
people who use BSL/ ISL refer to themselves as Deaf. The use of upper case D indicates a
language preference and is also a political and cultural term of belonging to the Deaf community.
It is used in the same way that people who belong to a national, cultural or religious group would
describe themselves, for example, as French or Muslim. It is for this reason that many Deaf people
do not define themselves as disabled, rather they describe themselves as belonging to a cultural or
linguistic minority

Gun History Essay
Gun History/Development:
What is the history of guns and gun building throughout the world?
Over 43% of Americans own a gun for either sporting or protection ( 21 unbelieveable ). Guns have
been improved throughout many years and there are still many people making many improvements
yet today. The history and evolution of guns improved by the creators who made them and how the
improvements better helped the gun overall are some of the things you will find in this paper.
Some background of gunpowder started with a man named Berthold Schwarz. He was a German
monk who was the first to make gunpowder around the 1300s. He also invented the first gun which
wasn t technically a gun but a huge heavy cannon which used gunpowder to fire (Kevin 4). ... Show

After people got tired of dragging around a huge heavy cannon they then made a smaller handled
cannon but it was still very hard to aim because you had to hold it with one hand and light it with
the other (Supica, Jim). The Arquebuses were the first handheld gun that didn t need to be lit by
match or fuse. Also with the Arquebuse being able to be held with two hands and not having to lit
by hand made it way more accurate than earlier guns (14). The Arquebuse also greatly helped to
create the musket which had a better more advanced ignition system. The musket first began to
be used during the 1400s. Then muskets helped to design the flintlock (14). Also by the mid
1400s people began to develope handguns or pistols. By the 1500s people were able to make
pistol effective to about four feet. One bad thing was how long the pistols took to reload so they
then began to design and create the revolver (18). Then around 1833 the very first breech loader
was created. A breech loader is loaded from the back of the gun instead of the front making it a lot
quicker and easier to reload. Then shortly after in around 1840 they began to mass produce the first
revolver called the pepperbox (Supica,

The Is Rooted Behind The Beginning Legal Conclusion Of...
The term stepparent is rooted behind the beginning legal conclusion of marriage. Since this term
has been coined there have been many stipulations of the legal rights and financial responsibilities
that the stepparents should posses. Due to the increase divorce in the U.S., the amount of
remarriages is increasing. The conversation of stepparent s rights is very common. The national
Step FamilyResource Center notes that if the tendency of increasing number of people becoming
step parents continues, persons in stepfamilies may make up as much as half of the population by
the next century (Pasley, Dollahite, Ihinger Tallman, 1993). With the increasing number of

Some of the biggest challenges are those created by the government. The stepparent according
to the government is considered an intimate outsider whom plays the role of a parent but is not
given the same legal rights as biological parents. Not allowing a stepparent financial and legal
rights for the stepchild is limiting their rights as parents. When two people decide to get married
there should be certain rights given to the stepparent. As far as financial support goes with
stepparent to step child the economic support that the stepchild receives from their stepparent is
very important for their well being. As a stepparent it should be assumed that they have as much
responsibility over the children like biological parent in whom they married. The fact that the
stepparent doesn t have legal rights over the stepchild can be potentially devastating if a child
experience the death of their primary caretaker. An example of this scenario would be the
Henikson v. Gable, 1987 case. The trial judge in this case failed to precisely rule whether the
children had an established custodial environment with their biological father. The mother died
leaving the stepdad whom was the child devoted father of his stepchildren (Cherlin, 2013). Due to
the fact that the stepfather is not given legal rights over the children he had no control when his
stepchildren were taken from him and sent to live with their biological father. The biological father

Poverty in the United Kingdom
Poverty is often associated with Third World countries, where the outcome of such poverty is
often death from disease or starvation. However this is the extremes of poverty, and is rarely
experienced within the UK. Despite this poverty still takes place within the UK just at a lesser
extent, however this does not take away from the devastating effects that povertycan have. This
poverty can be attributed to having less money and lower living standards than others of the
same society (European Anti Poverty Network, 2009). Child poverty is a direct result of adult
poverty (Poverties.org, 2011 2012) however unlike and adult, the experience of poverty for a
child can effect later life drastically. In April 2011, there were 13 million people in the UK living
below the poverty line, this included 3.6 million children (Department for Work and Pensions,
2011), and these numbers are expected to rise further (Child Poverty action Group, 2000 2012).
This type of poverty does not discriminate, it is a direct result of inadequate resources.
Unfortunately children themselves are a major contributing factor to their own poverty, as when a
child is born a family s income must spread further, at a time when income is short. Throughout
this time parents are faced with the difficult decision of returning to work in order to improve
income. However some families shall be supported by the welfare system however the current
system of increasing benefits by inflation is causing a relative drop in

Population Impact of the Affordable Care Act
Population Impact of the Affordable Care Act on North Carolina s Uninsured In 2010 the
American government passed new health care legislation, called the Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act (ACA), in order to reform the United States health care system. This health
care reform opens the door for some Americans who have never been eligible for affordable
health care insurance to obtain it beginning in 2014 (Sparer, 2011). All the states will enact this
legislation but some will limit the provision provided to their citizens (Kaiser Commission, 2013).

(Kaiser Commission, 2013). In this paper, I will look at health care... Show more content on

Although North Carolina has chosen not to expand Medicaid, other provisions of the ACA still go
into effect. The ACA will still increase insurance coverage because North Carolina residents who
currently are eligible for Medicaid but are not currently on it will now have to sign up due to the
mandate for nearly everyone to acquire insurance (Holahan, Buettgens, Carroll Dorn, 2012). The
other advantage is a simplified Medicaid eligibility enrollment system and federal grants for
navigators to help people with understanding health insurance options (Short, 2013). North
Carolina residents will still see some benefits with the U.S. implementation of health care reform
but not all of the proposed benefits. Economic Impact on North Carolina Health Care
Organizations Even though North Carolina is not participating in the ACA s Medicaid expansion,
the ACA will have an effect on North Carolina s health care organizations. The United States
national goal is to increase the number of people with health insurance in order to increase
collective resources to pay for needed medical care (Short, 2013). This plan will not be able to be
implemented as intended in North Carolina because of the state opting out of Medicaid expansion.
However, insurance coverage will increase with the other provision in the health care reform law
(Holahan, Buettgens, Carroll Dorn, 2012).

To What Extent Have Constitutional Reforms Since 1997 Made...
To what extent have constitutional reforms introduced since 1997 made the UK more democratic?
Constitutional reform is a process whereby the fundamental nature of the system of government is
changed or where a change is proposed. In the UK this may also involve the process of
codification. Since 1997 there has been many key reforms that have made UK more democratic by
a large amount and sometimes not so much if at all.
Firstly the House of Lords reform where the voting rights of most hereditary peers was abolished.
This makes the UK less undemocratic rather then more democratic. This is due to the fact that the
House of Lords as a whole is an unelected chamber and therefore undemocratic, however by
removing the voting rights of some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reforms of Devolution where power was transferred from Westminster to different elected
bodies around the country. This makes the UK more democratic as power is no longer
centralised and areas such as parts of Scotland, Wales and Ireland will not be neglected. However
England itself does not have its own assembly and the fact that we cannot vote on certain things in
areas of the UK, but everyone can vote in policies in England could be seen to be undemocratic.
Overall this reform however has made the UK more democratic as it means areas will not be
forgotten about and countries and areas within the UK can get specific things that that area may
want or need more then others.
The Human rights act in 1998 where the UK included the European convention of Human Rights
into British Law. This reform could be seen to be very undemocratic as it means we have taken
up laws that are not are own and a power that we have not elected has technically come up with
certain laws within Britain. However it also means that it gives everyone the same rights and more
freedoms meaning that in turn we as a country should become more democratic.I think this does
make us more democratic as it does prevent our government abusing its power and mistreating
citizens and prevent the possibility of an elected dictatorship As a higher power can step in.
Overall I think reforms since 1997 have made the UK slightly more democratic but not to a huge
extent.

Noah Bambach s While We Re Young
The work of art that I chose is a still from director Noah Baumbach from the film While We re
Young starring actor Ben Stiller. My initial reaction to this was how much different this film looks
from modern day filmmaking. This film was only released not too long ago, in 2015, but it was
shot on 35mm film. Most new release films are shot on a digital format. The main reason for this
is because of how expensive it is to shoot a movie on traditional film. To put this into perspective,
a 1,000 roll of film is approximately $860.00, and a 1,000 roll of film will only shoot 11 minutes.
Another big advantage to shooting on digital is, digital is better for color work, something that just

there is a combination of warm and cool colors. The natural light coming in from the windows of
the vehicle shown in the foreground gives the image a warm, brighter color. The colors in the
background are cooler and gives a lighter feel to the image. In terms of mass, this is a three
dimensional image. You can tell because of what is shown in the background, middle ground,
and foreground. The background of this image would be the cars passing behind the vehicle in
the image, the middle ground would be the people in the vehicle, and the foreground shows us
the GoPro camera and the dashboard. I believe this image would be considered to be closed form
because it is self contained, as in the main scene takes place in the car alone and does not take up
the outside space. When it comes to the element of space, although it appears as if the actions in
this photo interacts with real space, what is taking place inside of the car is real, but everything
surrounding the car is an illusion. Movies almost never actually film a real car on a real road,
everything behind the car in the picture is an illusion and is created using a green screen effect.
The exact term for how this works is called a chroma key, which simply replaces a certain color that
is either blue or green and replaces it with an image. So essentially the actors and the vehicle are
standing still, surrounded by a huge green screen which was replaced by a video clip to give the

People are debating about whether everyone should have off of school and work on February 5th, the day after the SuperBowl. Some people say that their child is just too tired to learn, or that they can t go to work because they can t stay awake. Opposers say we have to go, it s just another Monday to those who don t watch the SuperBowl, but many people are too tired to go. This is due to people calling out of work, which causes the U.S. losing about 1 billion dollars every year due to the lack of productivity and 16 million kids skip school the day after the SuperBowl, causing more than half of school s students being out, and the kids who are actually in school are too tired to learn anything. • 3. A Traditional Indian Culture And American Culture Identity and Names The names we are given are essential in forming our identity. It is the way we are addressed by everyone starting from birth. It is the beginning of how we define ourselves in our own terms `as a result of growing up and experiencing life. In Indian culture, from The Namesake, the grandmother chooses a good name for the child before they are born. Gogol was supposed to be a pet name only used by family and close friends. For Gogol, his name highlights his differences to everyone else, but more importantly, himself. He endures a consistent struggle with his two cultures throughout the novel. He, as a young adult, is searching for acceptance of both his traditional Indian culture and American culture. The Namesake, explores the theme of identity by examining the differences of both cultures. He has two names and therefore two identities, Gogol and Nikhil, and throughout the novel he looks for a way to incorporate them into one whole. Naming a child following Bengali tradition is extremely different in comparison to American culture. This highlights the importance of a child finding their own way in their own time, but also allows the parents to choose the best name. When it comes to naming the child, that honor is given to an elder relative. There are always two names that a Bengali child will have: a pet name and a good name. In the case of Gogol the letter containing his names was never received and considered lost. Therefore, his parents chose the name ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Crime And Punishment Utilitarianism Are there special human beings who are entitled to more rights and privileges than ordinary humans? Rodia s theory in Dostoyevsky s novel, Crime and Punishment, addresses this question. His desire to perform benevolent deeds for society converts him into a strong believer in his theory, influencing him to commit murder. Through Rodia s experiment, the novelproves the theory false. Dostoevsky uses his characterization of Raskolnikov to express criticism of the popular theory, Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism was a widespread theory in Russia during Dostoyevsky s era, a belief that achieving a greater good for the society, in any method, was a moral right. For example, one believes that an evil deed is invalidated by the morally justified outcome ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar to Rodia s dual personality, there are many contradictions within his theory. Rodia claims that extraordinary humans commit crimes that are beneficial to society and thus, they have a perfect right to commit breaches of morality and crimes, and the law is not for them (205). These men have a right to take lead in society because they are given extraordinary tasks; at the same time, they are above the ordinary men and can overlook their moral laws because the privileged men s crimes are justified for their moral purposes. At the time of his murder, Rodia s theory is underdeveloped and his crime was an experimentation. When Rodia confesses to Sonia, he says, I wanted to murder without casuistry, to murder for my own sake, for myself alone! I didn t want to lie about it even to myself (329). In truth, Rodia wanted to test out his theory, despite his justifications, and find out if he was an extraordinary human and were given these rights. He desperately wanted to feed his self esteem by placing himself superior to others. However, his psychological battle, the constant guilt, uneasiness, and instability, confirmed that he is was not granted these immortal rights. Ultimately, Rodia accepts the truth he had been rejecting and turns himself in order to free himself from the guilt that captured him. In the end, Rodia had no revolutionary cause to murder the ... • 7. Comparing J. R. Simplot And Why The Fries Taste Good I want to start out by summarizing both stories real quick. Why The Fries Taste Good is a short biography of J.R Simplot, a man who created his own potato growing business and became a billionaire. Eat local organic food if you like, but don t kid yourself that it s green is a story about a man who is trying to inform those that just because you shop in a farmers market, you aren t helping save the planet, but you re actually doing the opposite of helping. Both stories talk about food and both involve growing food, but the general idea of each story differs from each other. The first story is telling you the life story of Simplot, and the second is telling you why one thing is bad over the other. I do believe that each story differs in telling... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason I think this is because while reading the story, I noticed that Delingpole always had a source to go with his statistic. For example, he quotes a study, saying as Matt Ridley records in his The Rational Optimist A New Zealand lamb requires as quarter as much energy to get on to a London plate as a Welsh one. This makes me think that there is reasonable research that has been done, and that I could believe it. This isn t the only source either, he goes on to back a lot of other claims too. It is a different story when it comes to Why the Fries Taste Good . There are little to no sources in the story. The only quote Schlosser has is when he quoted Harvey Levenstein. There are statistics in the story but have no credit to them, such as in 1960, the typical American ate eighty one pounds of fresh potatoes and about four pounds of frozen french fries. The other time is when Simplot was asked about his success. I mention this because where is the source for this information? Schlosser could have easily made this information up, how do I know it s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Professionalism Definition Essay Being a professional individual is something that most people strive to be, however, the word professional can be interpreted many different ways depending on ones job, position or certification. The Webster dictionary defines professionalism as the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person. Google defines professionalism as the practicing of an activity, especially a sport, by a professional rather than amateur players. In Public Relations, professionalism is a huge part in how we do business. If an individual acts unprofessionally by, for example being late or coming unprepared for an important client meeting, you, your professionalism and your company then suffers credibility ... When this happens it is hard for students to juggle professionalism as well as setting aside time for school work with their personal lives, this is why it is important to be in a program you enjoy and can dedicate a portion of your time to; otherwise like the quote states, your quality work and motivation suffers. In conclusion, even though professionalism has more than one definition, they all have one thing in common and that similarity is clearly stated as someone who has passion and commitment for what they do. There are many different ways to improve a persons professionalism, some more obvious than others, like attending class and handing assignments in on time. What I have learned is that even though I don t agree with the definition of professionalism and how it is applied to college students, I still owe my professors, other faculty and fellow students, who do enjoy

The most common organisms found in CLABSIs are including coagulase negative staphylococci, staphylococcus aureus, enterococci and Candida. Furthermore, the other important pathogenic determinants of CLABSI are the material of which the device is made, the host factors consisting of protein adhesions such as fibrin and fibronectin which form a sheath around the catheter and the intrinsic virulence factors of the infecting organism, including the extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) produced by the adherent organisms. Catheters made of surface irregularities materials are especially vulnerable to microbial colonization and subsequent infection. This association has led to emphasis on preventing catheter related thrombus as an additional mechanism for reducing CLABSIs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Example Of Horror In Beowulf Horror is the most personal media genre because of how it can uniquely connect an audience to the traumatic aspects of human struggle. As a result, I like to define horror like this: horror is any instance when an audience is given an uncomfortable look at something that disturbs them. This definition is intended to give room for a cultural interpretation to horror; if something would have scared someone in the past because of something unique about their culture, it can still be considered horror. This is the primary vehicle with which I ll argue that horror has existed as long as the English language has. Looking back at the medieval horror excerpts and Beowulf, there are many elements that would scare the audiences of their times that wouldn t immediately affect a modern audiencewithout thorough analysis. Because audiences in the Middle Ages were terrified of God, descriptions of hell and punishment were works of horror centered around fear of the divine. Likewise in Beowulf, in addition to containing an explicit, modern esque monster in Grendel, Grendel s Dam would have been seen as a horrifying figure because women were mostly used as negotiable objects for marriage in the 700s. In these ways, these works are evidence that horror has been around since before Frankenstein. The Medieval passages we read were what really sealed the idea that cultural beliefs can make a past work considered horror. These stories contain vivid descriptions of hell and punishment. For ... • 14. Adversity And Struggle In Billy Elliot Billy Elliot Billy Elliot was a story of adversity and struggle. It follows a young boy who becomes a great success at ballet after he starts attending dance classes instead of his boxing classes. The play uses parallel storylines of the struggle for coal mine workers rights and Billy s struggle to become a great dancer. It takes place in an impoverished town in the UK during the 80 s but it was performed in 2017 at the Berkeley playhouse. The play is impactful because it satires gender stereotypes and advocates for the payoff of hard work. My favorite character was the ballet teacher. The actress made great use of the stage and her props. I loved the way she swayed in her fur lined silk robe and how she used her faux cigarette. It really conveyed the life story of the character and made her stand out. It gives her an aura of strength but also a certain feeling of tragedy as if she had always wanted to become a star. The teacher tackles this with her stern tactics from before but intermixes an appeal of sympathy for Billy s talent. Unfortunately, she is unsuccessful and has to result to being secretive in order for Billy s father not to find out. One of the younger nuns approached him and said I ll move forward with your request, buy you need to listen carefully to what I am about to say. A Brief History of Labor Standards In order to provide a clearer understanding of the need for labor standards in the international trade regime it is prudent to examine the historical background of the issue. The first legal link made between trade and labor standards in the United States manifested itself in the form of legislation designed to reduce the threat of foreign goods being dumped into U.S. markets. The first laws were implemented to this end in 1890, when the McKinley Tariff Act banned the import of goods made with prison labor (International Labor Rights Fund). However, concern for labor rights was merely a convenient byproduct of this legislation. In 1930 Congress took another step by passing into law the U.S. Tariff Act of 1930, which banned the import of goods made with forced or indentured labor. The postwar era brought about a more multinational approach to dealing with trade issues, most notably in the establishment of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in 1948. Although there were high hopes that international labor standards could be established, the GATT made only vague references to the issue, and no concrete and enforceable standards were established. • 24. Free-Will Vs Predestination In order to answer the question, How do we reconcile our free will with the sovereignty and determination of God? successfully, we must first define the terms free will and predestination. In reference to the subject of salvation, free will means man s ability to choose the way to salvation or not. Basically, it is man s ability to choose Godwithout God s help. On the other hand, predestinationrefers to the fact that God has chosen before the foundation of the world those whom He wishes to save and those whom He wishes to condemn. In other words, man is chosen to be saved by God, not for anything that he does, but simply because the Lord has chosen him for His good pleasure. Although it may seem simple at first, this question of free willversus predestination is really not that easy to unravel. First, free will must be further defined in the context of pre Fall, unregenerate, regenerate, and glorified man. Before the Fall, Adam and Eve were perfect image bearers of God. They had the ability to choose to sin and the ability to choose not to sin. In Latin, this state is best known as posse peccare, posse non peccare. One drastic change that I would implement is something completely new to the Athenian theatre; I would use the audience as part of the play. • 33. Essay on America Needs Tort Reform According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform, The tort system is truly broken and in bad need of repair. Tort cases are becoming an extremely common fight in the nation s legal system. Since 1986, 38 of the 50 United States have adopted some sort of tort reform. However, with the many flaws of the tort system today, the suffering American economy will continue to fall behind if the American public does not insist on fighting for justice in the legal system. The governing bodies of these states must continue to seek reform and propose strategies to fix the corruption in the tort system. The legal system set up by the founding fathers will experience corruption in the negligence of these governing bodies. Tort... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reform is needed. In 2005, the estimated cost of the tort system in the United States was approximately 260.8 billion dollars. Broken down, every U.S. citizen spends approximately 880 dollars annually on litigation taxes which fund United States tort cases (Balik, Carl). Understanding these numbers, it is absurd to think that a family of 6 spends approximately $5,280 each year on frivolous cases in the nation s judicial system. With each U.S. citizen paying roughly $1,000 on cases of tort, it is obvious that the system is being abused. Caps in the tort system limit the amount of money a jury can award a victim. These need to be put in place in order to prevent further damage to the nation s economy and further abuse to the county s legal system. Lawsuits of medical malpractice may be the greatest threat to justice in the legal system. Tort cases are constantly filed against medical practices which cause health care prices to dramatically increase in states lacking caps. Medical practitioners are forced to undergo an unnecessary amount of costly tests and procedures in order to defend themselves from frivolous lawsuits. The expenses of these precautions cause hospitals and other medical facilities to charge more for the care given to the patients, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Aspects Of The Moral Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales In the General Prologue of Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Host instructs the pilgrims to tell Tales of best sentence and moost solaas (GP 798). In other words, in order to win the contest, the pilgrims must tell stories which both impart serious meaning/wisdom ( sentence ) as well as entertainment ( solaas ). While the pilgrims all achieve these two goals to varying degrees, The Pardoner s Tale seems at first to succeed very well in providing both moralteaching and entertainment. However, while his tale effortlessly satisfies the solaas requirement, the Pardoner cannot truly provide the sentence he aims for, as his lesson degrades into hypocrisy and he lacks the respect from the other pilgrims necessary to afford his tale the impact he intends. The Pardoner s Tale, an exemplum intended to demonstrate the phrase radix malorum est cupiditas (greed is the root of all evil), tells of three riotoures (degenerates) who wish to find and kill Death. (Pard 334, 463). A mysterious old mantells them that Death resides underneath a nearby tree, under which the three men find a sack of gold instead. However the men do indeed find Death underneath the tree, as they end up killing each other due to their own greed. This tale easily satisfies the solaas requirement in its entertainment value. Firstly, the tale contains elements of mystery which make it interesting. For example, the old man that points the three men to their demise is both enigmatically old and inexplicably ... So what is a gender role? A genderrole is the overt expression of attitudes that indicate to others the degree of your maleness or femaleness. What set her apart was her stunning beauty, something she has no control over, but was born into. Snow white was never seen as anything more than a pretty face and a sweet nature. Many argue since animals aren t human, it doesn t matter how they are treated or taken care of. There are others that do care how our animals are treated and taken care of. Animal rights are rights believed to belong to animals to live free from use in medical research, hunting, and other services to humans. This topic has been around for a while but has become more absolute (Environmental Encyclopedia, Opposing Viewpoint). Animal rightsinvolves personal, social, legal, religious, cultural values, belief, and decisions. This alone causes the viewpoint to vary based on many factors. Add in the many benefits animals have for humans and the lines are blurred further. Animals should be treated humanely as they are living breathing beings and are aware of their lives. Animals have similar levels of biological complexity, they make conscious choices, and they are conscious and aware they exist. Animals should have rights because many of them provide companionship for humans. Therapy dogs are canines that might be trained to provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, disaster areas, and people with autism (General SHCS Info). Psychological dependence on hallucinogens is well documented. It appears that each drug carries its own risks. For example, unlike hallucinogens such as LSD and synthetics such as DOM that consist of a single chemical, marijuana has been found to contain more than 400 separate substances. These substances are in turn broken down in the body into a great many more chemicals, and the effects of these chemicals on the user are poorly understood. It has been found, however, that the most potent of these chemicals are attracted to and accumulate in fatty tissues, including the brain and reproductive organs. Studies indicate that frequent marijuana users may experience impaired short term memory and learning ability and reproductive problems. Other studies suggest that frequent or chronic marijuana use may contribute to damage of the immune system, increased strain on the heart, delayed puberty, and chromosome damage. Compare And Contrast The Renaissance Art And European Art Compare and Contrast Essay Compare and Contrast works of art that represent the 15th Century Early Renaissance art and 16th Century Northern European art. The artists Masaccio and Grunewald will be used to illustrate the differences and similarities in the styles of art. Their works of art are chosen for their interpretation of the style that was representative during these eras. Early Renaissance artists used mathematical one point linear perspective to create illusions of depth and depicted the human body as realistic and natural. Northern European artist used medieval mysticism and intense emotional spirituality and they used illustrative human figures rather than realistic depictions. By understanding the corresponding and distinctions between these two works of art we can understand why they created their artwork in the respective style to their era. The first work of art is a fresco titled Trinity with the Virgin Mary, John the Evangelist, and the Donors (Holy Trinity) by artist Masaccio during the Early Renaissance c. 1425 1427/1428. The fresco is located on the wall of the Church of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, Italy. Brunelleschi s experiments on linear perspective and architecture had an influence on Masaccio s art. Also with the Arquebuse being able to be held with two hands and not having to lit by hand made it way more accurate than earlier guns (14). This poverty can be attributed to having less money and lower living standards than others of the same society (European Anti Poverty Network, 2009). Child poverty is a direct result of adult poverty (Poverties.org, 2011 2012) however unlike and adult, the experience of poverty for a child can effect later life drastically. • 56. Population Impact of the Affordable Care Act Population Impact of the Affordable Care Act on North Carolina s Uninsured In 2010 the American government passed new health care legislation, called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), in order to reform the United States health care system. This health care reform opens the door for some Americans who have never been eligible for affordable health care insurance to obtain it beginning in 2014 (Sparer, 2011). All the states will enact this legislation but some will limit the provision provided to their citizens (Kaiser Commission, 2013). North Carolina is one of the states that have chosen not to enact all of the ACA s provisions (Kaiser Commission, 2013). In this paper, I will look at health care... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although North Carolina has chosen not to expand Medicaid, other provisions of the ACA still go into effect. The ACA will still increase insurance coverage because North Carolina residents who currently are eligible for Medicaid but are not currently on it will now have to sign up due to the mandate for nearly everyone to acquire insurance (Holahan, Buettgens, Carroll Dorn, 2012). The other advantage is a simplified Medicaid eligibility enrollment system and federal grants for navigators to help people with understanding health insurance options (Short, 2013). North Carolina residents will still see some benefits with the U.S. implementation of health care reform but not all of the proposed benefits. Economic Impact on North Carolina Health Care Organizations Even though North Carolina is not participating in the ACA s Medicaid expansion, the ACA will have an effect on North Carolina s health care organizations. The United States national goal is to increase the number of people with health insurance in order to increase collective resources to pay for needed medical care (Short, 2013). This plan will not be able to be implemented as intended in North Carolina because of the state opting out of Medicaid expansion. However, insurance coverage will increase with the other provision in the health care reform law (Holahan, Buettgens, Carroll Dorn, 2012). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 58. To What Extent Have Constitutional Reforms Since 1997 Made... To what extent have constitutional reforms introduced since 1997 made the UK more democratic? Constitutional reform is a process whereby the fundamental nature of the system of government is changed or where a change is proposed. In the UK this may also involve the process of codification. Since 1997 there has been many key reforms that have made UK more democratic by a large amount and sometimes not so much if at all. Firstly the House of Lords reform where the voting rights of most hereditary peers was abolished. This makes the UK less undemocratic rather then more democratic. This is due to the fact that the House of Lords as a whole is an unelected chamber and therefore undemocratic, however by removing the voting rights of some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reforms of Devolution where power was transferred from Westminster to different elected bodies around the country. This makes the UK more democratic as power is no longer centralised and areas such as parts of Scotland, Wales and Ireland will not be neglected. However England itself does not have its own assembly and the fact that we cannot vote on certain things in areas of the UK, but everyone can vote in policies in England could be seen to be undemocratic. Overall this reform however has made the UK more democratic as it means areas will not be forgotten about and countries and areas within the UK can get specific things that that area may want or need more then others. The Human rights act in 1998 where the UK included the European convention of Human Rights into British Law. This reform could be seen to be very undemocratic as it means we have taken up laws that are not are own and a power that we have not elected has technically come up with certain laws within Britain. However it also means that it gives everyone the same rights and more freedoms meaning that in turn we as a country should become more democratic.I think this does make us more democratic as it does prevent our government abusing its power and mistreating citizens and prevent the possibility of an elected dictatorship As a higher power can step in. Overall I think reforms since 1997 have made the UK slightly more democratic but not to a huge extent. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 59. Noah Bambach s While We Re Young The work of art that I chose is a still from director Noah Baumbach from the film While We re Young starring actor Ben Stiller. My initial reaction to this was how much different this film looks from modern day filmmaking. This film was only released not too long ago, in 2015, but it was shot on 35mm film. Most new release films are shot on a digital format. The main reason for this is because of how expensive it is to shoot a movie on traditional film. To put this into perspective, a 1,000 roll of film is approximately $860.00, and a 1,000 roll of film will only shoot 11 minutes. Another big advantage to shooting on digital is, digital is better for color work, something that just can t appear on film. I also like traditional film for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s easy to tell due to the background light that it is daytime, possibly the morning. It looks like there is a combination of warm and cool colors. The natural light coming in from the windows of the vehicle shown in the foreground gives the image a warm, brighter color. The colors in the background are cooler and gives a lighter feel to the image. In terms of mass, this is a three dimensional image. You can tell because of what is shown in the background, middle ground, and foreground. The background of this image would be the cars passing behind the vehicle in the image, the middle ground would be the people in the vehicle, and the foreground shows us the GoPro camera and the dashboard. I believe this image would be considered to be closed form because it is self contained, as in the main scene takes place in the car alone and does not take up the outside space. When it comes to the element of space, although it appears as if the actions in this photo interacts with real space, what is taking place inside of the car is real, but everything surrounding the car is an illusion. Movies almost never actually film a real car on a real road, everything behind the car in the picture is an illusion and is created using a green screen effect. The exact term for how this works is called a chroma key, which simply replaces a certain color that is either blue or green and replaces it with an image. So essentially the actors and the vehicle are standing still, surrounded by a huge green screen which was replaced by a video clip to give the illusion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
