Introduction. Epic Epiccare Is Rated As The Best Acute
Introduction
EPIC EpicCare is rated as the best Acute care and Ambulatory EMR for large hospitals with more than
75 physicians (KLAS Research,2017). As Houston Methodist (HM) is committed to Leading medicine
and improve patient experience, the leadership decided in 2013 to shift from MethOD an EMR based
on Allscripts® to a new EHR looking for an integrated solution that will help build a complete and
robust patient story, easily accessible by the care team to help them make more informed decisions in
order to achieve better health outcomes, improve communications, and get patients more involved by
providing them with convenient online tools. HM started the vendor selection process in 2014 and in
2015 they decided to go for EPIC EpicCare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I attended several meetings where HM EPIC Leaders are preparing community hospitals wave 2 for
the transition to EPIC. HM are following the PROSCI ADKAR model (Hiatt, 2016) to manage such a
huge change, they are targeting to prepare the whole operational team for the EMR adoption and it is
not just an IT solution implementation.
As HM are planning for several waves of go live for other community hospitals along with plans to
upgrade EpicCare to version (20), I was asked to review high priority issues that were reported during
the community hospital wave 1 (CH1) go live to the command center leadership and try to identify the
key factors impacting user experience during such phase and come up with recommended solutions to
control it.
Learning Objectives and Expected Outcomes
The learning objectives for the Epic go live experience were:
+ Examine how informatics concepts and best practices learned, such as usability, visualization,
workflow analysis, integration, assessment, and evaluation, are considered in an EHR go live.

School Culture Reflection Paper
Perhaps positive school culture was another area I presumed as a given. When referencing the ELCC
standard 2.0 I feel confident in my contributions and leadership skills developed throughout my tenure
at York Suburban and refined through this internship experience. Again the big ah ha in this arena was
actually identifying what I was seeing be played out. The Pennsylvania Department of Education
clearly defines the concept of missions, vision and values (See Appendix A for Concepts of Mission,
Vision and Values) and York Suburban has a highly visible mission statement. We have this mission
statement posted in all classrooms including kindergarten classes where students can not quite read
them yet. I don t think many people in the general public can see the true value in school culture, but
appreciate when it is positive. Our district boasts a clear mission and vision and shared values are
communicated through a newly adopted tag line: A Community of Encouragement, A Culture of
Excellence.
Because climate and culture are so closely related I like to make the analogy that climate is the talk of
a building and culture is the walk. Often there is a positive climate, but the culture is lagging. When
leadership has a strong vision for both climate and culture, then the building as a whole is talking the
talk and walking the walk. I continue to view climate and culture through two lenses, and understand
that the lines are often blurred between the two. In open schools where climate and culture are strong,
new leadership is tasked with getting a pulse on the existing situation, but with some explicit details as
to enable the continuation of both. New leadership in a building with a less than positive climate and
culture is tasked with identifying the missing elements and diligently establishing a vision to begin to
develop a positive and effective open school. Both new leaders will need time. Both situations require
a process. Knowing the importance of all these pieces to the puzzle will enable me to either model
what I ve observed, or maintain depending on weather I am a principal in a district similar to mine or
very different. It will be a challenge for me to keep the process slow and steady if much

The Overfishing Of Our Oceans
Overfishing
The ocean makes up nearly three quarters of the planet s surface and contains about eighty percent of
the life on earth. Millions of people all over the world depend on seafood heavily as a primary source
of food. Americans alone consumed as much as 15.8 pounds of seafood per person in 2009 (NOAA).
This is a lot of fish. In fact, it is so much that many populations of fish are going extinct. At this
particular rate according to National Geographic, scientist predict that the earth is expected to lose all
of its current fisheries by the year 2048 (Roach). The overfishing of our oceans leads to unmanageable
practices that will eventually cause many species of fish to become extinct.
According to National Geographic, overfishing dates back to the 1800s when humans killed off
massive amounts of whale population to retrieve blubber for lamp oil (Roach). Similarly, Atlantic cod,
herring, and California s sardines, were also fished to the brink of extinction by the mid 1900s. Theses
cases were extremely harmful to the ecosystems food chain. To counter these losses, the United States
passed the Magnuson Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (NOAA). This law made it
illegal for foreign countries to fish within 200 nautical miles of the United States shoreline. This
would make it easier to manage illegal fishing. Congress also established eight regional councils with
representation from the coastal states and fishery stakeholders. Their jobs were to come up

Moon And Mercury Similarities

Assignment 2
1. At first glance, the Moon and Mercury have similar surface features yet on closer inspection we find
that significant differences exist. Compare and contrast the surfaces of the two bodies and outline their
respective geological histories.
The geology of the moon and mercury are very similar due to certain key aspects, but there are also a
few qualities that differentiate the two bodies. The Moon has a radius of 1738km in comparison with
Mercury, the smallest of the major planets with a radii of 2440km. The average density of the Moon is
3.37 g/cm3 that is consistent with basaltic silicates. Like Earth the Moon has a layered system,
consisting of a crust, mantle, and core. From the radius and the mass Mercury has a mean density of
5.4 g/cm3 which implies a dense iron (Fe) core. Just as the Moon consists of an iron core with a softer
molten liquid iron outer core. The outer core is believed to extend out as far as 500km. The Moons
core only holds 2% of its mass. Since Mercury is low in mass there is less heat stored from formation
its core is probably sold rather than liquid. The lunar surface of the Moon is grey and tan, with a low
albedo. Albedo is the reflective properties of planets, satellites, and asteroids. Mercury also has a low
albedo, which signifies that the

Pathogenesis And Endocytosis
The proposed mechanism is that the mutated α synuclein binds directly to the ER Golgi SNARE
complex inhibiting its assembly (Gitler et al., 2008). Altering vesicle trafficking at any point inside the
cell can lead to an accumulation of proteins, which can have severe consequences for dopaminergic
neurons. The endocytic pathway is also important in the pathogenesis of Prkinson s disease. Mutations
in the cyclin G associated kinase (GAK) are important for endocytosis. Single nucleotide
polymorphisms (SNPs) have actually been identified that can be associated with risk factors for
sporadic Parkinson s disease (Nalls et al., 2014). A relationship between one GAK SNPs and increased
levels of the protein α synuclein has been demonstrated on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is possible that α synuclein causes the ER stress by interrupting the vesicular protein trafficking and
causing the ER to be overworked. It is also found that mutations in the parkin gene end up forming
aggregations of its own substrates in the ER, which leads to stress and death of dopamine neurons
(Imai et al., 2001). Other than the stress on the ER created by clusters of incorrectly folded α
synuclein proteins, mitochondria that are functioning improperly can also induce stress on the ER.
Parkin is an E3 ubiquitin ligase responsible for regulating many cellular processes by tagging proteins
with ubiquitin for their destruction (Dawson and Dawson 2010). A loss of function mutation in the
parkin gene is seen to play a major role in altering the function of mitochondria leading to stress on
the ER (Bouman et al., 2011). Mutations in PINK1 (PTEN induced putative kinase 1) affect pakin
translocation and cause mitochondria to accumulate which increases the vulnerability of dopamine
neurons (Song et al., 2013). Along with this, muations in both the parkin gene and PINK1 cause ER
stress by increasing contacts between ER and dysfunctional mitochondrial, which can lead to
neurodegeneration (Celardo et al., 2016). In rare forms of heredity Parkinson s disease, mutations in

The Importance Of The Supernatural In Hamlet
The element of the supernatural is one commonly explored during the Elizabethan Era especially in
connection to religion, as ghosts are manifestations of the devil sent to misguide devout Christians. In
Shakespeare s play Hamlet , the ghost of Hamlet Sr. is malevolent and serves to bring out the barbaric
side of his son Hamlet. The appearance of this supernatural force instigates death and destruction
throughout the play, and ultimately leads to the downfall of Hamlet downfall. The ghost ignites the
need for revenge in Hamlet and demonstrates the extent of its manipulation and ill intent as it cloaks a
vicious sin as a noble act that will prove Hamlet s love for his father. Hamlet Sr. strengthens Hamlet s
despise for Gertrude by validating the blame and criticism Hamlet was already placing on Gertrude,
which ruins all opportunities for Hamlet to come to terms with his mother s marriage, further fuelling
the anger and need for revenge in Hamlet. From the first apparition of the ghost, Hamlet described it
as a a spirit of health or goblin damn d (1.4. 43). Hamlet s suspicions on the enmity of the ghost
become the painful truth that ultimately lead to his demise. The initial appearance of Hamlet Sr. s
introduces the idea of revenge to his son. The ghost manipulates his son by calling on Hamlet s
passionate love for his father. Hamlet Sr. reveals his true motivations to Hamlet with a twisted
condition on Hamlet s love: List, list, O list! If thou didst ever thy dear father love (..) Revenge his
foul and most unnatural murder (1.5.28 31). Hamlet Sr. shows his malevolence by making his son
choose between committing a villainous act or showing that he does not truly love his father. The
ghost turns the grief and anger Hamlet is feeling from the loss of his father into a ferocious lust for
blood, and serves as a continuous reminder to Hamlet of his mission to avenge his father in order.
With the materialization of the ghost, Hamlet becomes obsessed with the idea of avenging his father
as a way to show his true and unfaltering love for his father. It becomes clear to the audience how the
appearance of the ghost becomes a symbol of destruction, as it provides the motivation necessary for
Hamlet, in the form of

Information And Communication Technology In The 21st Century
Technology in an educational context is the ability to shape and change the physical world or
knowledge by the manipulation of material and tools. Education in the 21st century has greatly
benefited from the improvements provided by information and communication technology, visual and
audio content that can be sent immediately to any part of the world (Bartlett Burton, 2012). The
amount of economic resources a region or community has dictates its availability. This has meant
information can be more easily shared, students using electronic devices are enabled to access
information on any subject or topic. Educators can more easily share ideas or discuss concepts,
allowing them to deliver content using a variety of different electronic formats in the classroom.
Technology has become a major component in personalised learning, this is where the method of
providing information and the system used is built around the student, previously the system was built
for the learner which they were required to fit into (Bolstad et al., 2012). The introduction of
technology into the classroom has also changed how curriculum and pedagogy is delivered to students
in the 21st century.
When comparing new and traditional teaching practices from the 20th century, analysis need to be
completed on how curriculum and pedagogy have changed to accommodate this. Traditionally schools
were seen to be using the scholar academic ideology, that is the idea that culture has accumulated
knowledge over time

The Drought Stricken State’S Climate Leaves Its’ Water
The drought stricken State s climate leaves its water supply to be volatile and unpredictable, creating a
hash reality for all demanders of the scarce resource. In the worst of times California s climate is
destructive to the wellbeing of not only Californian s quality of life, but the surrounding ecosystems.
With unseasonably higher temperatures presenting issues farther into the future, in Adapting
California s water management to climate change , the authors Ellen Hanak and Jay Lund provide an
overview of the effects California s climate has during times of drought, and the complications it
presents for the State s water management. Water management in the state oversee a plethora of

The Delta is the lifeblood of California s water supply system, but when sea levels rise more and more
of the levee system that blockades the salt and fresh water erodes, it leads to what is known as
seawater intrusion. More simply, the contamination of freshwater by its salty counterpart. This process
happens at varying rates, disrupting the water supply at a snail s pace or more in abundance, leaving a
rippling effect to be felt for months, or even years. Climates effects on snowpack levels is far more
measurable, where warming temperatures lead to higher levels of winter runoff. Thus depleting the
snowpack earlier in the year, and leaving less for the spring and summer months to follow. Inversely,
the average precipitations effects on the water supply are less measurable, due to the inability to
correctly asses the amount of total runoff derived from precipitations role as the catalyst of the melting
process. Measurements of this kind must be more than just an estimate, Hanak and Lund cite that It is
likely to be decades before we know if and by how much precipitation and runoff volumes are
changing (pg 20). But precipitations effects on snowpack volume must remain relevant, the effects of
reduced runoff due to decreased precipitation appear to be much more important than

The Organizational Culture Of The Beef Industry
1. Introduction When the Beef industry took a hit about ten years ago, one company who was able to
stabilize itself in the rocky market was KBJ Beef Processing Equipment. The question now that they
have successfully implemented a new system into stabilizing their business, is how do they begin to
thrive in it? Currently, the system they have implemented is much more effective than the prior. One
key to the new system was the idea of reduced roles. This was key strategy because it allowed the
company to consolidate and focus on themselves rather than worry about the market. Instead of
panicking, they looked inward to discover the key to surviving in a sinking market. 2. What are the

This makes sure that the people in command are not only reliable, but if they are struggling to meet
the deadlines and goals of the company, they can easily be replaced by a younger more incentivized
employee. This kind of revolving door of productivity allows the workers to understand how the
company is performing and how each of their jobs is benefiting the company. This kind of high
employee efficiency mixed with happy workers produces an outcome that will save KBJ Beef
Processing Equipment from the seemingly inevitable downfall of the beef market. 3. Comparisons The
main reason Suede implemented this structure was because the efficiency of the company was not
where it needed to be in order to survive the tough times. When information or tasks were sent down
the chain of command, it was usually too late or often not even deemed worth solving. Suede on the
other hand wants to create a system where every small problem, no matter how small, is solved so the
company can continue to operate on as high of a level as possible. He was also able to turn the
mentality of the company completely around. Placing the responsibilities of the employees completely
on their own shoulders was the best thing to happen to KBJ Beef Processing Equipment. This way
when an employee falters, the only person they can blame is themselves. This creates almost a military
sense of teamwork. When everyone takes care of themselves and

Quarterback Mobility And Its Impact On College Football...
The 2012 NFL season is over, and fans are left with little to do, except follow player cuts while
awaiting free agency and the rookie draft. While flipping through the latest news, I came across the
following headlines: o Titans looking to add zone read elements to offense o Quarterback mobility
takes on greater focus at Scouting Combine
The basis of these reports is that an influx of young quarterbacks has entered the NFL over the last
two years with new skill sets from those of the past. These players are QB / RB hybrids with decent
but not exceptional passing skills. Teams such as Carolina, Seattle, Washington, etc have been
modifying their offense to best utilize the players skills, namely by implementing the zone read option

o Forces defenses to play against the unfamiliar; with limited practice time, they must prepare for new
keys and new techniques; the defense must remain extremely disciplined regarding their assignments.
o Forces defenders to tackle players who may or may not have the ball. o Forces defenders to make
good open field tackles on the perimeter. o Can convert a quick reflexed, attacking defender into a
spectator.
Weaknesses: o Relies heavily on training the QB to make proper reads . o QB often runs inside the
tackles, subjecting him to hard hits. o Fancy ball handling can lead to turnovers. o Passing attack is
usually limited. o A poor offense when playing from behind and trying to score quickly.
These strengths and weakness apply to most run option offenses, but it is important to keep in mind
that a there have been a great variety of such systems throughout football history. A brief overview of
the pros and cons of specific systems is listed below.

The Heidi Chronicles Essay
The Heidi Chronicles by Wendy Wasserstein kept my interest so much that I could not put it down
until I was to the last page. I liked how the issue of sexuality played a role along with the issue of
feminist goals in this play. I believe they complimented one another in that both groups strive for
equal right among the majority. For example when Peter starts to march with the other women from
the Art Institute. It shows that he is standing for a cause the effects another minority group in our
society: women.
I found Susan very interesting in the play. At the beginning she is always concerned with impressing
the guys, rolling her skirt to appear more attractive. Peter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe Scoop is too much of a chauvinistic pig especially when he assigns a grade to everything
from food, music, and women. He is a prime example of why there are feminist out there to put men
like him back in his cage.
Act 2, Scene 2 is where I had the strongest reaction that is when Peter, Scoop, and Heidi went on a
talk show. What made me mad was before the show Denise told Peter to act out his sexuality more
than usual. Basically telling him to be the stereotypical, flaming homosexual for the television
audience. It reminded me of the Jerry Springer episodes where they bring out the gay guests that have
cheated on their lovers: been there, done that, now they are back for more attitude. Which is a false
portrayal of the gay community. Betrayal happens in any kind of relationship whether is gay or
straight relationship. The talk show they are on reminds me of the Dr. Laura show. April, the host,
makes several comments that have gay derogatory undertones. April talks about how their generation
is rich, powerful, famous, and even parents. Then she makes a comment to the effect of What if Peter
Pan came through our bedroom windows? Peter Pan I think symbolizes homosexuality as a disease the
way she talks about it. Her narrow minded perspective makes it seem that just because
somebody chooses an alternative lifestyle that they can no longer be rich, powerful, famous, or even
parents. Even though she is a fictional

The Events Of Temperance Movement
Part 1: The Event; Temperance Movement
Second Great Awakening was not focused simply on promotion individual conversions; it was also
intended to reform human society, which was said by Lyman Beecher a champion of evangelic
Christian revivalism (Tindall and Shi 508). The United States, which was known for a nation of
separation and church and state was swept with religious revivals during 1790 to 1830s known as the
Second Great Awakening. From the Second Great Awakening in 1842, the United States was filled
with different reform movement which was led by dreamers and activists who saw social injustice or
immorality in the American society and wanted to fight to correct the sinful events that s been
happening (Tindall and Shin 528 529). One of the most widespread from all the reform movement that
spread around the 19th and 20th century was the temperance movement due it being the common
social problem in the United States. The Temperance movement was an organized effort to encourage
moderation in the consumption of intoxicating liquors or press for complete abstinence (Chancellor).
The temperance movement establishes due to the amount of alcohol an individual was consuming, it
also brought different society and organization to help spread the word about the evil in consuming
alcohol which was mainly established by women s, which gave a rise to women s rights by them

selected using purposive convenience sampling method. Data were collected using a demographic and
obstetric questionnaire and 168 items food frequency questionnaire, and were analyzed using SPSS22,
applying Mann Whitney, t test and chi square.
Results: This study showed that dietary habits of women with preterm labor is more unfavorable
compared to women with term labor (P=0.023). Generally, dietary habit of more than half of the
women with preterm labor, in this study, was assessed unfavorable. In terms of different food groups,
daily intake of vegetables was significantly lower in women with preterm labor (P=0.02).
Consumption of dairy products was also lower in women with preterm labor than women with term
labor which was significant (P=0.05).
Conclusion: To prevent adverse outcomes of preterm delivery more attention regarding nutritional
planning for pregnant women seems to be essential.

The Blocker Burn Unit At The University Of Texas Medical...
Introduction The Blocker Burn Unit is a six bed Burn Intensive Care Unit located at the University of
Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. It has a long and storied history of providing innovative
burn care to its patients. The Burn unit was initially founded after a massive explosion in Texas City
Harbor that injured hundreds of people in 1944. Since inception, the unit has dealt with disaster both
fabricated and natural. In 2008, the BBU was one of only a handful of services to remain open and
operational after Hurricane Ike landed and dealt massive injury to UTMB. The BBU not only
sustained operations but also briefly expanded to provide pediatric burn care when Shriners Burns
Hospital was subsequently unable to reopen post hurricane. This paper will detail the realities
confronted by the BBU both currently, and in the future, with an exploration as to those implications
on fiscal outlook and provision of care.
Current Realities of the Blocker Burn Unit (BBU)
Burn Care Hospitals The American Burn Association (ABA) is the accrediting body for burn centers
in the United States. Currently the number of ABA verified centers listed is 64. Other ABA verified
center sin Texas include the Hermann Memorial Burn Unit in Houston, the Parkland Burn Unit in
Dallas, the San Antonio Burn unit at Brook Army Medical, University Hospital in Lubbock and of
course the Blocker Burn Unit and its sister hospital Shriner Burns Hospital for Children in Galveston.

The Pharmacognostic Characteristics between Spermacoce...
Spermacoce hispida L. is one of the important medicinal plants used in traditional systems of
medicine. It is observed that, several times it is difficult to differentiate the plant from the other allied
species from the same genus, Spermacoce, especially, when they are in drug form. Therefore, the
present study aims to document the differences in the pharmacognostic characters, preliminary
phytochemical analysis and polyphenolic contents from the leaves of four species belonging to the
genus Spermacoce, viz. S. hispida L., S. mauritiana O. Gideon, S. stricta L. and S. ocymoides Burm.
Transverse section passing through the midrib with lamina on either sides, epidermal characters, leaf
constants, organoleptic characters, physicochemical analysis, extractive values and preliminary
phytochemical analysis were carried out for all these species. Total Phenolic Content (TPC) by Folin
Ciocalteu method and Total Flavonoids (TF) by AlCl3 method were also estimated from the leaves of
all these species. The results indicated that S. hispida can be clearly differentiated from the other
selected species on the basis of size and number of epidermal cells, size of trichomes, leaf constants,
physicochemical analysis and extractive values. However, it is also found that S. hispida possess TPC
at 6.88±0.34 mg CAE/g and 9.17±0.46 mg TAE/g. TF was at 5.98±0.30 mg QE/g. The study will
provide information with respect to identification and differentiation selected species of genus
Spermacoce.

4th Amendment Research Paper
In 1791, a vital document for the United States of America was written. The Bill of Rights. James
Madison fulfilled the Anti Federalists wishes by adding a list of rights to the constitution in order for
the document to be ratified. The Bill of Rights addresses rights and freedoms which were violated
under British rule. Although all 10 amendments are important, I have analyzed each one and ranked
their importance. In 1791, some amendments would seem more important than others due to the recent
events from the Revolution. Each amendment is relevant in its own way but some are exercised more
than others by individuals in the United States. The first amendment of the Bill of Rights is the most
important amendment.

Powerful Tools For Caregivers Case Study
In 2008, while doing consulting work for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Pat Billings and Ruth
Hamlin came upon a program developed by Stanford University called Powerful Tools for Caregivers.
The program intrigued both Pat and Ruth as both have been fulltime family caregivers and both have
worked in the care giving field as professionals most of their adult life. Little did they know that the
program they presented to the Executive Services Corps, NE Board of Directors would have an impact
on over 1,500 caregivers in eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa. Since 2008, the Tools for
Caregivers program has grown far beyond the 6 week educational series for caregivers of an
individual with a long term chronic illness or disability. Although

For as long as your government [Kenyan] persists in its path of oppression, implements repressive

Road Less Taken
All of Summer in a Day is a tale from the far off future, when humanity has colonized Venus. Once
every seven years for only about two hours, taking place in a class room of young children, most of
which don t remember the sun or the gentle yellow glow it gives off due to living in underground
bunkers their whole lives. One child, Margo, recently moved to Venus from Earth, remembers the Sun
and tries to explain it to her fellow class mates who believe she is lying. On the day the Sun is to come
out, the children finally get tired of hearing Margo s Lies and lock her in a closet to punish her while
the Teacher is out. Later the Teacher arrives back in the room and, not realizing Margo is not with
them, takes them outside for the Summer . When the children come back in due to the heavy rain
coming back, they realize what they have done to Margo and let her back out of the closet. All of

The Road Less Taken reveals that while it might be best to follow the road most traveled so that you
can compare experiences with others who have also, it is a more unique experience to take the road
less traveled. The Road Less Traveled and All of Summer in a Day may seem to be along two different
themes; however, there is one part that ties these to tales together, Margo. Throughout her time on
Venus, Margo has held onto her unique experience of the Sun and though trying to share it, others
refuse to accept it as true. By the end of All of Summer in a Day the children who locked Margo in the
closet, see that her unique experience, her road less traveled was worth much more than their dull
illusion that there is no sun, or that it is something

Pros And Cons Of Cord Blood Banking
country are now recommending collecting the cord blood. There s only two things that (you can)
potentially buy your new baby that are lifesaving: One is a good car seat and the other is cord blood.
Dr. Marra Francis, Ob/Gyn, CBR medical consultant gives his medical and personal opinion of
collecting cord blood.
Cord Blood banking also has it s limitations. Researchers have discovered that it is actually harder for
adults to be treated with cord blood than bone marrow. Children usually receive one unit of cord blood
because their small bodies only need a small amount. Adults however need more than the one unit of
blood that children receive because their bodies are so much bigger. According to eurostemcells.org

Sick children whose parents did bank their blood sometimes cannot be used (Moniger, 67). Many
blood banks do not tell parents that if their children may develop a cancer or a disease early on in their
life that they may not be able to use the cord blood because the blood may be diseased. This risk is
one of the main risks that deter parents from paying the cost for banking. Another negative aspect of
cord blood collection and banking is that if a mother who delivers twins would like to collect and store
her children s cord blood, she would not be able to. Both babies may have a different cord tissue type
and they may be mixed during the collection process making them virtually useless (The Truth about
Cord Blood Banking Lucie s list, n.d.) . Also, If the mother ever had cancer, she can not have her child
s blood collected. This is because doctors do not want the possibility of the cord blood to be

The Brahmin’s Son Essay example
Analysis: The Brahmin s Son
Despite his solid spiritual upbringing among the Brahmins, Siddhartha still seeks the meaning of life,
and he embarks on a quest to find enlightenment. Brahmins are members of the highest of the four
interdependent groups, called castes, that make up Hindu society. Members of the Brahmin caste were
originally priests with the primary duty of mediating with and praying to gods, and they were
respected for their intellect and their knowledge of the Vedas, the sacred Hindu religious texts. In The
Brahmin s Son, Siddhartha meditates on the syllable Om, which represents perfection and unity. Om
suggests the holy power that animates everything within and around us. This power does not have
form or substance, but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ritual and formula govern Siddhartha s father s world. Life in this world revolves around sacrifices
and offerings made at certain times and the performance of established duties that everyone, even
Siddhartha s father, must take part in. The father s world, then, is fixed in the moment and regulated
according to certain accepted guidelines. Nothing will change from one day to the next. Siddhartha s
father s request at the end of this chapter that Siddhartha return home to teach his father if he is
successful is an admission that Siddhartha is right, that the gods are only objects of veneration and not
living companions. The people in this world suffer from a way of life that was forced on them, and
their strict rituals and schedules stand between them and the reality they seek.
He lost his Self a thousand times and for days on end he dwelt in non being. But although the paths
took him away from Self, in the end they always led back to it.

How Did Christian Teachings Affect The Creation Of Human...
To what extend did Christian teachings affect the creation of human rights
Human rights are basic to humanity. They are supposed apply to all people everywhere. Though in our
modern society, we acknowledge the importance of human rights, it took a long time for mankind to
set down the human rights that we all deserve and to reach to where we are now. In this essay, the
focus will be on how much Christian teachings and traditions influenced the creation of human rights.
It s possible to see the influence based on different written laws made toward creation of equal rights.
Such as, the US s Declaration of Independence , the French Declaration of the Rights of Man or the
UN s Declaration of the Human Rights. Christianity s biblical notions support many of the articles
found in those declarations. Christian teachings had an overall significant impact on the development
of modern human right. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bible says that man is created according to the image of God, thus, the murder of another man is
of the highest offense. Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for in the

God expects us to treat each other humanely. Ten Commandments also forbids murder, stealing,
adultery, lying and crave certain things. These rules help us treat each other morally and equally. Other
examples would be to treat immigrants well (Exodus 22:21; Leviticus 19:33 34), help the poor with
their needs (Leviticus 19:10; Deuteronomy 15:7 8), specifically give loans to the poor with no

Environmental Effects Of Plastics
Plastic never leaves. Also, it s inexorably discovering its way into our seas and onto our shorelines.
Huge amounts of plastics are drifting around the sea today like grocery plastic bags, straws and bottles
are conveyed into the Pacific Sea consistently. Today billions of pounds of plastic can be found in
twirling convergences on the world s sea surfaces. Plastics contamination has an immediate and fatal
impact on wildlife. A vast amount of seabirds and ocean turtles, seals and other marine animals are
killed every year subsequent to ingesting plastic or getting snared in it. Plastics are detrimental to
aquatic ecosystems for a number of different reasons: they may entangle animals, be ingested by
aquatic organisms and cause their death. Plastic causes pollution in the ocean and endangers the
inhabitants of many sea creatures. Plastic comes in many different kinds and variety, some are largely
noticeable and some are micro particles. Tiny plastic objects are the most dangerous to the sea
creatures especially to the marine mammals. These micro or tiny bits and pieces of plastics tend to get
consumed accidentally by many marine animals. Plastic is the great pretender, conceived in mimicry
and dedicated to the simulation of everything else in art and nature (208, Ebbesmeyer). Ebbesmeyer
claims that plastics can be any sort of form(s). Just like any other object in the world has some plastic

that might change their goals, long term ones or short term ones.Parents and educators can see the
statistics and see where students want to see each themselves,in 10 years or in 10 days. That will help

shape exploded away. The eyes vanished. The leaf piles flew up in a dry shower. Montag was alone in
the wilderness. A deer. He smelled the heavy musk like perfume mingled with blood and the gummed
exhalation of the animal s breath, all cardamom and moss and ragweed odor in this huge night where
the trees ran at him, pulled away, ran, pulled away, to the pulse of the heart behind his eyes.

JET2 Task 2 Report
Competition Bikes, Inc. Budget Summary Report
A1. Concerns
Upon reviewing the Competition Bikes Inc. (CBI) Budget Schedules and ProFormas for Year 9, there
are a few concerns that should be analyzed. The first is the forecasted sales in units. The forecast for
year 9 is 3,510 units, which is a 3.2% increase over the 3,400 units sold in year 8. The storyline
mentions the economic downturn, which has led to a decrease in bike sales. It can take some time to
recover sales lost during an economic downturn, and given that sales were down 15% between year 7
and year 8, to go from a 15% decrease in sales to a 3.2% increase in sales in the span of only two
years may be an unrealistic goal. I would want to see a specific plan in place for ... Show more content

They compare this actual spending to their budgeted amounts for all line items, and variances are
calculated. Variances are the differences between the what was budget and what was actually spent.
Activity Variances
Within the Flexible Budget Performance Report for Year 9, we begin with units sold and net sales.
Net Sales
Planning Budget: 3,510 Units, Net Sales $5,247,250
Flexible Budget: 3,423 Units, Net Sales $5,117,385 (unfavorable net sales variance of $130,065).
This clearly shows that CBI overestimated their sales goal in light of unfavorable economic
conditions. Given these conditions, the fact that they still sold more bikes than in year 8 should be
considered a positive result.
Within the Variable Costs section, all of the line items included favorable variances:
Direct materials Planning Budget: $2,292,028 Flexible Budget: $2,235,219 (favorable variance of
$56,809)
Direct Labor Planning Budget: $1,053,000 Flexible Budget: $1,026,900 (favorable variance of

India s Post Colonial Populist Democracy
The recent experience of India s post colonial populist democracy with Moditva (the rise of Narendra
Modi as India s prime minister by mobilizing varied sections of the Indian population: corporates,
media, middle classes, Hindutva activists, a section of Other Backward Classes and Dalits along with
the poor) has fundamentally challenged the liberal conception of democracy. It is interesting to note
that a person widely regarded as anti minorities while ignoring the normative principle of rule of law
when protecting the minorities from majoritarian violence, gets elected by popular mandate. In this
respect, Moditva ( Modified version of Hindutva) might pose possible threats to India s democratic
processes in future.
Moditva is not just a specific political agenda with a personality cult but it can be called as what
Michael Freeden calls a micro ideology . As nationalism is a micro ideology in Freeden s parlance,
Moditva can be also described as a peculiar micro ideology . Previously, Hindutva had shown its
limitations by not ensuring electoral majority for the BJP in the 1990s. In contrast, Moditva has not
only ensured a clear majority for BJP (282 seats) with 10 seats more than the majority mark and over
60% seats for the National Democratic Alliance (336 seats) but has also got a large proportion of votes
31% for BJP and over 38% for NDA. Although, the vote share of the BJP led NDA is way below the
50% mark, in a competitive multiparty democracy with a history of

Media And Anorexia
Introduction It is apparent that with the increasing popularity of social media today, there has been a
shift in dietary changes within our society. Individuals are subconsciously changing how and what
they eat. The question arises, why are so many young women dissatisfied with their bodies, despite
their size? Although there are several forces believed to play a role in this dissatisfaction such as peer
criticism and parental influences, the thin ideal body is dominating the media (Grabe, Ward, Hyde,
2008). Thinness is largely emphasized and praised for women in magazines, television shows, movies
and commercials (Stice Shaw, 1992). Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder that stems from this
ubiquitous obsession to be thin and is often associated with a pathological fear of gaining weight,
distorted self body image and emaciation (The American Heritage® Science Dictionary).
Various studies have demonstrated that when women are shown both photographs or TV commercials
with extremely slender models they indicate an increase in dissatisfaction with their body (Crouch
Degelman, 1998). A study regarding social media specifically, was conducted by researchers at the
University of Haifa on 248 girls ages 12 to 19; they found that the more time girls spent looking at
pictures on Facebook, the more they suffered from eating disorders such as Anorexia, as well as other
conditions including a heightened urge to diet and lose weight (University of Haifa, 2011). Media

The Benefits Of Driving Limitation For Teenagers
Should there be so many driving limitation for young teenagers? Should these laws include limiting
the time of day that a teenage driver can drive alone or the number of passengers permitted in the car?
Also, would it be helpful to have a permit system that would give new drivers more experience before
they get behind the wheel alone on their own? Are these laws beneficial/necessary for young drivers?
Teenage drivers are not always following the laws that are in place that would restrict them from
driving during overnight hours, using cell phones, and limiting the number of passengers they can
have in the car. It would seem that one of the biggest accomplishments in a teenager s life is receiving
their driver s license. It is my opinion that, obtaining a license gives a teenager freedom; a newfound
sense of independence. This new independence can be very intoxicating. Teenagers drive themselves
to school functions, extracurricular activities, or to work. A friend drives over to visit or to pick them
up to go somewhere. It is very thrilling to know that you are not at your parent s mercy to drive you to
and from school, meet friends, or to work. But with all of this new freedom comes responsibility
which most sixteen year olds are not ready to handle.
I understand why teenagers would want to break the law and drive before they are legally ready.
Teenagers crave independence. As they grow into young adults, they feel the need to spread their
wings, and move away from the nest. Driving is an important milestone that allows teenagers to
transition into adulthood independently. Teenagers look forward to that independence with great
anticipation, and want to drive earlier, therefore, they end up breaking laws which are there to protect
the young teenager. There is a time in the teenage years, especially the ages sixteen twenty which are
considered a rite of passage for many individuals who want to apply for a driver s license and legally
drive the car as a licensed driver. It isn t just teens that are excited to reach that defining age; even
parents are excited and motivated as well to join their kids in this exciting time of their life. Because
of this, young teenage drivers have consistently broken the driving

Chief Executive Hat Essay
Question #1 The most important leadership hat of the president is the Chief Executive Hat or power.
In respect to this hat, the president of the United States has the power to enforce laws of the United
States, create policies, appoint federal judges, and fires or hire officials or representatives within the
executive branch. This hat is important because it enables the president to make decisions that help
maintain the economic stability as well as the political stability of the country. For instance, by
enforcing laws and appointing federal judges, the president is able to make decisions that help
maintain stability within the United States. In turn, this enables economic indicators such as
businesses to flourish efficiently.

executives. Besides, each responsibility has several diverse branches, which contribute to burdening of
the president. For that reason, the responsibility should be reduced in order to enable the president

responsibilities should be reduced by allowing him to appoint some representatives to handle for him
the roles that require high expertise and training. For instance, president may not have necessary
experience to handle his commander in chief or the responsibility of acting as economic guardian;
hence, he should appoint somebody with necessary educational background and qualifications to

Huckleberry Finn
The theme of Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn is that the ideas of society can greatly influence the
individual, and sometimes the individual must break off from the accepted values of society to
determine the ultimate truth for himself. In Huckleberry Finn s world, society has corrupted justice
and morality to fit the needs of the people of the nation at that time. Basically, Americans were
justifying slavery, through whatever social or religious ways that they deemed necessary during this
time.
The conflict between society and Huckleberry Finn results from Huck s non conformist attitude. This
attitude is a result of his separation from society at an early age. With a highly abusive drunkard for a

Huckleberry Finn recognizes Jim as a human being, but is fighting the beliefs bestowed upon him by a
society that believes slaves should not be free. However, it is important to realize that although
Huckleberry Finn s decisions create the conflict between society and himself (and that this conflict
forms the theme of the novel), Huck is oblivious to the justice, the righteousness, and even the
heroism of his own actions, they are simply in accordance with his own conscience.
The climax comes in chapter thirty one of the novel, when Huckleberry Finn s moral development
reaches its peak. Up until this point in the novel, Huckleberry Finn has been experiencing internal
conflict concerning his treatment of Jim. Society has brought him up to believe that Jim is nothing but
property, rightfully belonging to Miss Watson, and so Huck would be wrong in helping Jim flee. At
the same time, however, his experiences with Jim, and his own personal instincts about the situation
tell him that he is doing the right thing.
Huck feels terrible because he cannot please both voices of his conscience. Huckleberry Finn feels as
though society is right, and he is wrong. At first, he begins to write a letter to Miss Watson to return
Jim, but then ends up destroying the letter and deciding to help free Jim. Specifically, in the novel,
Huck says, quot; All right, then I ll go to hell, quot; right as he tore up the letter. This indicates that

Why Is Karl Marx Called The Proletariat
The Harvest shows the life of what Karl Marx termed the proletariat . Proletariat is Marx s term for
the exploited class, the mass of workers who do not own the means of production. These people have
been put in poor work conditions and work for the class, as Marx puts it, called the Bourgeoisie. These
are the capitalists who own the means of production. The capitalists watch over the companies, and
make and change policy. The proletariats have to work poor means to keep these companies going.
The one girl from The Harvest, Zulema, says that in 1 week she makes 64 dollars. This is sad, but
none the less she is part of this lower class and must abide by these means. The main problem that this
presents is what Marx is known for, which

Victorian Era Woman
Woman In The Victorian Era
The victorian Era lasted through 1837 1890s. The era gave woman little power and opportunities in
life while men were looked at as having the most control. Fashion choices determined a person s
social status and politics were strictly powered by men. There were many influences during the time
period that blocked off woman from being equal to others with higher status or wealth. Events
throughout the Victorian era placed restrictions on women and the lower class citizens. The way
people dressed and acted determined their class and wealth which connects to today s expectations of
how a person should look and how they treat others. Social status and employment were based off of
the wealth of a family and the success ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The women with more money and success in their lives owned more clothing with better fabric and
embellishments which created expensive garments to buy (Monet, Dolores). Wealth was a big part in
fashion and the more detailing and better fabric gave others the impression of a family s income.
Many who wore makeup, had the money to buy it and wear to make their appearance stand out from
other women that cannot afford cosmetics. Many styles were invented in this era such as hair crimping
in the 1870s. Clothing styles were dictated by propriety, and stylish garments were a sign of
respectability (Monet, Dolores). The Victorian era was big on being proper as said in the quote, many
who broke this dictation were looked at as disrespectful. In the 19th Century bonnets, bell shaped
ruffles, and ¾ sleeves were very popular. Many wore their hair long or in a bun with curls. Woman of
a higher social class were expected to demure and indolent as reflected by the restrictive dropped
shoulder lines and corsets (Monet, Dolores). Fashion choices provided the characteristics traits of how
women needed to act to be respected in that era. Corsets were worn to give girls a structured figure to
wear with clothing. The corset was very popular even though it was rather uncomfortable, many who
wore corsets were looked at as part of the high social class, being respected, and having a glorified
figure to the

Is Jay Gatsby in F. Scott Fitzgerald´s The Great Gatsby, a...
To decide whether Jay Gatsby is a good man or not, one must define what a good man really is.
Although it is an extremely vague and layered term, a good man best fits the description of a man
whose intentions are never meant to harm anyone. In addition, readers must remember that the Gatsby
in the novel is Nick Carraway s version, and that is a very biased version. Yet, based off of the events
depicted in The Great Gatsby, I believe that Jay Gatsby is a good man. Gatsby is not formally
introduced until chapter three, and due to his initial description, readers hold him in much higher
regard than other characters in the novel. Nick introduces Gatsby in an extremely intriguing and
flattering manner, saying, He smiled understandingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless of how one would go about arguing how Jay Gatsby is not a good man , he is undeniably
an embodiment of the American dream. Born James Gatz to two poor farmers in the Midwest, Gatsby
s imaginations had never really accepted them as his parents at all. The truth was that Jay Gatsby ...
sprang from his Platonic conception of himself. He was a son of God ... to this conception he was
faithful to the end (98). The notion of the self made man alone is something that is honored within
American society, and therefore, Jay Gatsby is an honorable person. Parallel to Benjamin Franklin,
Gatsby envisioned the perfect man and left home with nothing in order to become that idealistic
version of himself. Gatsby s similarity to Benjamin Franklin is highlighted by Mr. Gatz with Gatsby s
childhood schedule seemingly based off of The Way to Wealth. Yet, being an honorable person alone
does not make Gatsby a good man . What does make Gatsby a good man though, is his outstanding
selflessness. Despite the immense wealth he gains, Jay Gatsby is always trying to do things for others,
such as asking Nick on his boat, or giving a random party goer an entirely new dress after ruining their
original dress at one of Gatsby s parties. Even in the case of Gatsby doing Nick favors, Gatsby does
not expect anything in return from Nick, but he does hope for a reconnection with Daisy. Part of what
really makes Gatsby a good

Chris And Chase Compare And Contrast
Most siblings have a lot in common. Like the same interest. However, both of my sons Chris and
Chase are very different from each other. Although they are often mistaken for twins by strangers and
distant relatives. As their parent, I realize that they have very different eating habits, personalities and
hobbies. I often wonder how they turned out so different. Their appearance is one of the only things
they have in common. Chris and Chase have many similarities. Most of their features pulled from
their father s genes. None of mine are present! Both of my boys are very tall for their ages, and have
the very same height of 4ft. and weight of 60 pounds. Furthermore, they both have sandy brown, curly
hair, hazel eyes, really light skinned, and freckles from head to toe. Their round shaped face and
peanuts heads are identical. Easy for me, and less expensive because they also wear the same size
clothing. I often dress the same colors and outfits, so it makes it hard for strangers and distant relatives
to tell them apart. Moreover their preference on styles and fashion ... Show more content on

Christopher is very hyperactive, never can be still. Chase on the other hand is very calm and laid back.
Chase just goes with the flow of things. Sharing is out the equation for Chris. He is like a big Hoss
that likes to hog everything. For a child his age he is very selfish and inconsiderate of Chase. In
contrary, Chase has a really big heart and always give in to Chris very easily. As far as school, daycare
and interacting with other kids. Chris is the very social, curious and outgoing. His teacher thinks this
is a two way street, because he ask a lot of questions and always eager to learn. Along with disrupting
class, talking play and being the class clown. However, my Chase never get any complaints from his
teachers, but we all worry about him been so introverted and short

Dharma in Service to Vinaya Essays
India is renowned as an incubator of religion. The South Asian nation s countless sects have it widely
known for its deep, abiding spirituality. In some respects, the story of India is the story of conflict
among the most abided of these faiths. Even today, India s political landscape is defined by the
struggle between those who would insist that religion is nationality (Islam) and those who maintain
that, as a historical entity, India is essentially Hindu and all other faiths are interlopers. India is replete
with the history and shrines of the Hindu faith, though its most famous shrine, the Taj Mahal, is as
Muslim as Mecca. Nonetheless, it is a Hindu aura that permeates the India of the Western imagination.

BUDDHISM BEFORE ASHOKA Early Buddhism was wracked with factionalism in the century
following the death of Gautama Buddha, a situation that did not improve with the convocation of the
Second Buddhist Council. Primarily, the dissention within Buddhism stemmed from disagreement
over asceticism as a necessary part of monastic life, with certain sects advocating the strict discipline
commonly associated with the wandering monks of Hinduism and others embracing the ostensibly
Bacchanal yet introspective ethic most associated by Westerners with The Buddha. Naturally, many
controversies arose over these competing narratives concerning the nature of The Buddha, and, though
each camp has since split into the myriad disciplines Buddhism is known for today, every succeeding
schism is an analog of the first, a battle between the essentially Indian (and therefore Hindu) ideal of
Vinaya and the dogged quest for Dharma.
ASHOKA MAURYA, NOT WITHOUT SORROW Ashoka s rise to the head of the Mauryan Empire
was necessarily brutish, owing to the battle for succession that would leave siblings dead and the
empire trembling. It would require four years of war to consolidate his position and the deaths of all
but one of his brothers, Tissa, whom he left alone because he was a religious man. The roots of
Ashoka s devotion to spiritual rule might be found in his family tree; his grandfather Chandragupta,
the founder of the Mauryan Dynasty was said to have become a Jain ascetic, abdicating and

Similarities Between Psycho And The Birds
When looking at the collection of works by Alfred Hitchcock, it is common to notice similar threads
throughout his life work. The films viewed in class alone, share many things, as both Psycho and The
Birds consist of more than what meets the eye. Though one may be about a killer man and the other
about killer animals, both Hitchcock films develop a deep, dark string of events leading up to
inevitable death. Being in touch with a great love of drama, thrill and suspense, Alfred Hitchcock
leaves you on the edge of your seat, with many famous scenes and never before seen ideas, making
you incapable of averting your eyes. As noted many times in class, Hitchcock followed a common
storyline with the types of characters he created. For example, ... Show more content on

He is know for his use of precisely zooming in the camera to show a specific perspective to allow the
viewers to be more perceptive of certain details, giving us hints based on the surrounding objects. It
helps the audience to figure out what might be coming or which direction the storyline may be going
in. For example, the famous shower scene in Psycho, when Norman Bates mother is about to murder
Marion Crane. When the shower curtain is pulled back and we see the killer, her face is completely
darkened and out of focus, but the knife with which the mother kills Crane, is captured perfectly. This
camera effect, as well as the close up of Crane s face when she is about to be killed, allows the
spectators to truly be the voyeurs and fully experience the tension the scene is trying to encapsulate.
We experience similar shots throughout The Birds, but specifically when Hendren s character Melanie
Daniels approaches the attic, investigating some suspicious sounds. When she opens the door, almost
immediately she is swarmed by hundreds of malicious birds attacking her from all angles. Hitchcock
meticulously places the camera on Daniels face, getting a close up shot of her terror, in order to
present a more urgent sense of

Dziga Vertov
Dziga Vertov s Man with a Movie Camera presents the everyday urban activities of people from the
Soviet Union. Since the documentary film has no story at all, it also does not have continuity of
action. This 1929 documentary made use of montage where images were edited together without
visible or apparent connection between shots.
This documentary film is considered as one of the greatest films of all time. It has neither actors nor
story. It basically follows a camera man and his views of the Russian city. It is about film techniques
and the process required in making one.
Vertov believed that a camera has the power to unveil those aspects of the filmed events which
otherwise cannot be perceived. During that time, there are variety of camera angles and editing styles
and techniques that are being demonstrated in films. And one important aspects of this particular
documentary film that is visible as the scene progresses is the type of montage used. Man with a
Movie Camera consists of a series editing and collision editing which have their own purpose; there
are scenes that show the man carrying his camera then quickly ... Show more content on

For him, montage is a collision wherein the collision of two factors gives rise to an idea. An example
of this in the documentary film is when a woman wakes up and starts to wash her face, then the film
cuts to water cleaning off a pole. As the scene progresses, it shows a woman wiping herself using a
cloth, then cuts to a woman wiping off a window (probably using a similar cloth). Lastly, the film cuts
back to the woman cleaning her face and starting blinking as the windows starts to open and close at
the same time (simultaneously with her blinking). This particular scene produces different
interpretations but it may also imply (since collision editing was used) that the woman s life is similar
to the life of the Russian city; they both go through

  • 2. Introduction. Epic Epiccare Is Rated As The Best Acute Introduction EPIC EpicCare is rated as the best Acute care and Ambulatory EMR for large hospitals with more than 75 physicians (KLAS Research,2017). As Houston Methodist (HM) is committed to Leading medicine and improve patient experience, the leadership decided in 2013 to shift from MethOD an EMR based on Allscripts® to a new EHR looking for an integrated solution that will help build a complete and robust patient story, easily accessible by the care team to help them make more informed decisions in order to achieve better health outcomes, improve communications, and get patients more involved by providing them with convenient online tools. HM started the vendor selection process in 2014 and in 2015 they decided to go for EPIC EpicCare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As HM are planning for several waves of go live for other community hospitals along with plans to upgrade EpicCare to version (20), I was asked to review high priority issues that were reported during the community hospital wave 1 (CH1) go live to the command center leadership and try to identify the key factors impacting user experience during such phase and come up with recommended solutions to control it. • 3. School Culture Reflection Paper Perhaps positive school culture was another area I presumed as a given. When referencing the ELCC standard 2.0 I feel confident in my contributions and leadership skills developed throughout my tenure at York Suburban and refined through this internship experience. Again the big ah ha in this arena was actually identifying what I was seeing be played out. The Pennsylvania Department of Education clearly defines the concept of missions, vision and values (See Appendix A for Concepts of Mission, Vision and Values) and York Suburban has a highly visible mission statement. We have this mission statement posted in all classrooms including kindergarten classes where students can not quite read them yet. I don t think many people in the general public can see the true value in school culture, but appreciate when it is positive. Our district boasts a clear mission and vision and shared values are communicated through a newly adopted tag line: A Community of Encouragement, A Culture of Excellence. Because climate and culture are so closely related I like to make the analogy that climate is the talk of a building and culture is the walk. Often there is a positive climate, but the culture is lagging. When leadership has a strong vision for both climate and culture, then the building as a whole is talking the talk and walking the walk. I continue to view climate and culture through two lenses, and understand that the lines are often blurred between the two. In open schools where climate and culture are strong, new leadership is tasked with getting a pulse on the existing situation, but with some explicit details as to enable the continuation of both. New leadership in a building with a less than positive climate and culture is tasked with identifying the missing elements and diligently establishing a vision to begin to develop a positive and effective open school. Both new leaders will need time. Both situations require a process. Knowing the importance of all these pieces to the puzzle will enable me to either model what I ve observed, or maintain depending on weather I am a principal in a district similar to mine or very different. It will be a challenge for me to keep the process slow and steady if much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Overfishing Of Our Oceans Overfishing The ocean makes up nearly three quarters of the planet s surface and contains about eighty percent of the life on earth. Millions of people all over the world depend on seafood heavily as a primary source of food. Americans alone consumed as much as 15.8 pounds of seafood per person in 2009 (NOAA). This is a lot of fish. In fact, it is so much that many populations of fish are going extinct. At this particular rate according to National Geographic, scientist predict that the earth is expected to lose all of its current fisheries by the year 2048 (Roach). The overfishing of our oceans leads to unmanageable practices that will eventually cause many species of fish to become extinct. According to National Geographic, overfishing dates back to the 1800s when humans killed off massive amounts of whale population to retrieve blubber for lamp oil (Roach). Similarly, Atlantic cod, herring, and California s sardines, were also fished to the brink of extinction by the mid 1900s. Theses cases were extremely harmful to the ecosystems food chain. To counter these losses, the United States passed the Magnuson Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (NOAA). This law made it illegal for foreign countries to fish within 200 nautical miles of the United States shoreline. This would make it easier to manage illegal fishing. Congress also established eight regional councils with representation from the coastal states and fishery stakeholders. Their jobs were to come up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Moon And Mercury Similarities Nadia Szijjarto 101019833 PHYS 1901 Tuesday November 17, 2015 Professor Maybury Assignment 2 1. At first glance, the Moon and Mercury have similar surface features yet on closer inspection we find that significant differences exist. Compare and contrast the surfaces of the two bodies and outline their respective geological histories. The geology of the moon and mercury are very similar due to certain key aspects, but there are also a few qualities that differentiate the two bodies. The Moon has a radius of 1738km in comparison with Mercury, the smallest of the major planets with a radii of 2440km. The average density of the Moon is 3.37 g/cm3 that is consistent with basaltic silicates. Like Earth the Moon has a layered system, consisting of a crust, mantle, and core. From the radius and the mass Mercury has a mean density of 5.4 g/cm3 which implies a dense iron (Fe) core. Just as the Moon consists of an iron core with a softer molten liquid iron outer core. The outer core is believed to extend out as far as 500km. The Moons core only holds 2% of its mass. Since Mercury is low in mass there is less heat stored from formation its core is probably sold rather than liquid. The lunar surface of the Moon is grey and tan, with a low albedo. Albedo is the reflective properties of planets, satellites, and asteroids. Mercury also has a low albedo, which signifies that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Pathogenesis And Endocytosis The proposed mechanism is that the mutated α synuclein binds directly to the ER Golgi SNARE complex inhibiting its assembly (Gitler et al., 2008). Altering vesicle trafficking at any point inside the cell can lead to an accumulation of proteins, which can have severe consequences for dopaminergic neurons. The endocytic pathway is also important in the pathogenesis of Prkinson s disease. Mutations in the cyclin G associated kinase (GAK) are important for endocytosis. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have actually been identified that can be associated with risk factors for sporadic Parkinson s disease (Nalls et al., 2014). A relationship between one GAK SNPs and increased levels of the protein α synuclein has been demonstrated on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is possible that α synuclein causes the ER stress by interrupting the vesicular protein trafficking and causing the ER to be overworked. It is also found that mutations in the parkin gene end up forming aggregations of its own substrates in the ER, which leads to stress and death of dopamine neurons (Imai et al., 2001). Other than the stress on the ER created by clusters of incorrectly folded α synuclein proteins, mitochondria that are functioning improperly can also induce stress on the ER. Parkin is an E3 ubiquitin ligase responsible for regulating many cellular processes by tagging proteins with ubiquitin for their destruction (Dawson and Dawson 2010). A loss of function mutation in the parkin gene is seen to play a major role in altering the function of mitochondria leading to stress on the ER (Bouman et al., 2011). Mutations in PINK1 (PTEN induced putative kinase 1) affect pakin translocation and cause mitochondria to accumulate which increases the vulnerability of dopamine neurons (Song et al., 2013). Along with this, muations in both the parkin gene and PINK1 cause ER stress by increasing contacts between ER and dysfunctional mitochondrial, which can lead to neurodegeneration (Celardo et al., 2016). In rare forms of heredity Parkinson s disease, mutations in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Importance Of The Supernatural In Hamlet The element of the supernatural is one commonly explored during the Elizabethan Era especially in connection to religion, as ghosts are manifestations of the devil sent to misguide devout Christians. In Shakespeare s play Hamlet , the ghost of Hamlet Sr. is malevolent and serves to bring out the barbaric side of his son Hamlet. The appearance of this supernatural force instigates death and destruction throughout the play, and ultimately leads to the downfall of Hamlet downfall. The ghost ignites the need for revenge in Hamlet and demonstrates the extent of its manipulation and ill intent as it cloaks a vicious sin as a noble act that will prove Hamlet s love for his father. Hamlet Sr. strengthens Hamlet s despise for Gertrude by validating the blame and criticism Hamlet was already placing on Gertrude, which ruins all opportunities for Hamlet to come to terms with his mother s marriage, further fuelling the anger and need for revenge in Hamlet. From the first apparition of the ghost, Hamlet described it as a a spirit of health or goblin damn d (1.4. 43). Hamlet s suspicions on the enmity of the ghost become the painful truth that ultimately lead to his demise. The initial appearance of Hamlet Sr. s introduces the idea of revenge to his son. The ghost manipulates his son by calling on Hamlet s passionate love for his father. Hamlet Sr. reveals his true motivations to Hamlet with a twisted condition on Hamlet s love: List, list, O list! If thou didst ever thy dear father love (..) Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder (1.5.28 31). Hamlet Sr. shows his malevolence by making his son choose between committing a villainous act or showing that he does not truly love his father. The ghost turns the grief and anger Hamlet is feeling from the loss of his father into a ferocious lust for blood, and serves as a continuous reminder to Hamlet of his mission to avenge his father in order. With the materialization of the ghost, Hamlet becomes obsessed with the idea of avenging his father as a way to show his true and unfaltering love for his father. It becomes clear to the audience how the appearance of the ghost becomes a symbol of destruction, as it provides the motivation necessary for Hamlet, in the form of ... • 8. Information And Communication Technology In The 21st Century Technology in an educational context is the ability to shape and change the physical world or knowledge by the manipulation of material and tools. Education in the 21st century has greatly benefited from the improvements provided by information and communication technology, visual and audio content that can be sent immediately to any part of the world (Bartlett Burton, 2012). The amount of economic resources a region or community has dictates its availability. This has meant information can be more easily shared, students using electronic devices are enabled to access information on any subject or topic. Educators can more easily share ideas or discuss concepts, allowing them to deliver content using a variety of different electronic formats in the classroom. Technology has become a major component in personalised learning, this is where the method of providing information and the system used is built around the student, previously the system was built for the learner which they were required to fit into (Bolstad et al., 2012). The introduction of technology into the classroom has also changed how curriculum and pedagogy is delivered to students in the 21st century. When comparing new and traditional teaching practices from the 20th century, analysis need to be completed on how curriculum and pedagogy have changed to accommodate this. Traditionally schools were seen to be using the scholar academic ideology, that is the idea that culture has accumulated knowledge over time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the worst of times California s climate is destructive to the wellbeing of not only Californian s quality of life, but the surrounding ecosystems. With unseasonably higher temperatures presenting issues farther into the future, in Adapting California s water management to climate change , the authors Ellen Hanak and Jay Lund provide an overview of the effects California s climate has during times of drought, and the complications it presents for the State s water management. The Delta is the lifeblood of California s water supply system, but when sea levels rise more and more of the levee system that blockades the salt and fresh water erodes, it leads to what is known as seawater intrusion. More simply, the contamination of freshwater by its salty counterpart. This process happens at varying rates, disrupting the water supply at a snail s pace or more in abundance, leaving a rippling effect to be felt for months, or even years. Climates effects on snowpack levels is far more measurable, where warming temperatures lead to higher levels of winter runoff. Thus depleting the snowpack earlier in the year, and leaving less for the spring and summer months to follow. Inversely, the average precipitations effects on the water supply are less measurable, due to the inability to correctly asses the amount of total runoff derived from precipitations role as the catalyst of the melting process. Measurements of this kind must be more than just an estimate, Hanak and Lund cite that It is likely to be decades before we know if and by how much precipitation and runoff volumes are changing (pg 20). But precipitations effects on snowpack volume must remain relevant, the effects of reduced runoff due to decreased precipitation appear to be much more important than ... • 10. The Organizational Culture Of The Beef Industry 1. Introduction When the Beef industry took a hit about ten years ago, one company who was able to stabilize itself in the rocky market was KBJ Beef Processing Equipment. The question now that they have successfully implemented a new system into stabilizing their business, is how do they begin to thrive in it? Currently, the system they have implemented is much more effective than the prior. One key to the new system was the idea of reduced roles. This was key strategy because it allowed the company to consolidate and focus on themselves rather than worry about the market. Instead of panicking, they looked inward to discover the key to surviving in a sinking market. 2. What are the New Ideas The organizational culture within the company ... This kind of revolving door of productivity allows the workers to understand how the company is performing and how each of their jobs is benefiting the company. This kind of high employee efficiency mixed with happy workers produces an outcome that will save KBJ Beef Processing Equipment from the seemingly inevitable downfall of the beef market. 3. Comparisons The main reason Suede implemented this structure was because the efficiency of the company was not where it needed to be in order to survive the tough times. When information or tasks were sent down the chain of command, it was usually too late or often not even deemed worth solving. Suede on the other hand wants to create a system where every small problem, no matter how small, is solved so the company can continue to operate on as high of a level as possible. He was also able to turn the mentality of the company completely around. Placing the responsibilities of the employees completely on their own shoulders was the best thing to happen to KBJ Beef Processing Equipment. This way when an employee falters, the only person they can blame is themselves. This creates almost a military sense of teamwork. When everyone takes care of themselves and ... • 11. Quarterback Mobility And Its Impact On College Football... The 2012 NFL season is over, and fans are left with little to do, except follow player cuts while awaiting free agency and the rookie draft. While flipping through the latest news, I came across the following headlines: o Titans looking to add zone read elements to offense o Quarterback mobility takes on greater focus at Scouting Combine The basis of these reports is that an influx of young quarterbacks has entered the NFL over the last two years with new skill sets from those of the past. These players are QB / RB hybrids with decent but not exceptional passing skills. • 12. The Heidi Chronicles Essay The Heidi Chronicles by Wendy Wasserstein kept my interest so much that I could not put it down until I was to the last page. I liked how the issue of sexuality played a role along with the issue of feminist goals in this play. I believe they complimented one another in that both groups strive for equal right among the majority. For example when Peter starts to march with the other women from the Art Institute. It shows that he is standing for a cause the effects another minority group in our society: women. I found Susan very interesting in the play. Act 2, Scene 2 is where I had the strongest reaction that is when Peter, Scoop, and Heidi went on a talk show. What made me mad was before the show Denise told Peter to act out his sexuality more than usual. Basically telling him to be the stereotypical, flaming homosexual for the television audience. It reminded me of the Jerry Springer episodes where they bring out the gay guests that have cheated on their lovers: been there, done that, now they are back for more attitude. Which is a false portrayal of the gay community. Betrayal happens in any kind of relationship whether is gay or straight relationship. The talk show they are on reminds me of the Dr. Laura show. April, the host, makes several comments that have gay derogatory undertones. April talks about how their generation is rich, powerful, famous, and even parents. Then she makes a comment to the effect of What if Peter Pan came through our bedroom windows? Peter Pan I think symbolizes homosexuality as a disease the way she talks about it. Her narrow minded perspective makes it seem that just because somebody chooses an alternative lifestyle that they can no longer be rich, powerful, famous, or even parents. The Events Of Temperance Movement Part 1: The Event; Temperance Movement Second Great Awakening was not focused simply on promotion individual conversions; it was also intended to reform human society, which was said by Lyman Beecher a champion of evangelic Christian revivalism (Tindall and Shi 508). The United States, which was known for a nation of separation and church and state was swept with religious revivals during 1790 to 1830s known as the Second Great Awakening. From the Second Great Awakening in 1842, the United States was filled with different reform movement which was led by dreamers and activists who saw social injustice or immorality in the American society and wanted to fight to correct the sinful events that s been happening (Tindall and Shin 528 529). One of the most widespread from all the reform movement that spread around the 19th and 20th century was the temperance movement due it being the common social problem in the United States. The Temperance movement was an organized effort to encourage moderation in the consumption of intoxicating liquors or press for complete abstinence (Chancellor). In 2008, the BBU was one of only a handful of services to remain open and operational after Hurricane Ike landed and dealt massive injury to UTMB. The BBU not only sustained operations but also briefly expanded to provide pediatric burn care when Shriners Burns Hospital was subsequently unable to reopen post hurricane. This paper will detail the realities confronted by the BBU both currently, and in the future, with an exploration as to those implications on fiscal outlook and provision of care. Current Realities of the Blocker Burn Unit (BBU) Burn Care Hospitals The American Burn Association (ABA) is the accrediting body for burn centers in the United States. It is observed that, several times it is difficult to differentiate the plant from the other allied species from the same genus, Spermacoce, especially, when they are in drug form. Therefore, the present study aims to document the differences in the pharmacognostic characters, preliminary phytochemical analysis and polyphenolic contents from the leaves of four species belonging to the genus Spermacoce, viz. S. hispida L., S. mauritiana O. Gideon, S. stricta L. and S. ocymoides Burm. Transverse section passing through the midrib with lamina on either sides, epidermal characters, leaf constants, organoleptic characters, physicochemical analysis, extractive values and preliminary phytochemical analysis were carried out for all these species. Total Phenolic Content (TPC) by Folin Ciocalteu method and Total Flavonoids (TF) by AlCl3 method were also estimated from the leaves of all these species. The results indicated that S. hispida can be clearly differentiated from the other selected species on the basis of size and number of epidermal cells, size of trichomes, leaf constants, physicochemical analysis and extractive values. However, it is also found that S. hispida possess TPC at 6.88±0.34 mg CAE/g and 9.17±0.46 mg TAE/g. TF was at 5.98±0.30 mg QE/g. The study will provide information with respect to identification and differentiation selected species of genus Spermacoce. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Huge amounts of plastics are drifting around the sea today like grocery plastic bags, straws and bottles are conveyed into the Pacific Sea consistently. Today billions of pounds of plastic can be found in twirling convergences on the world s sea surfaces. Plastics contamination has an immediate and fatal impact on wildlife. A vast amount of seabirds and ocean turtles, seals and other marine animals are killed every year subsequent to ingesting plastic or getting snared in it. Plastics are detrimental to aquatic ecosystems for a number of different reasons: they may entangle animals, be ingested by aquatic organisms and cause their death. Plastic causes pollution in the ocean and endangers the inhabitants of many sea creatures. Plastic comes in many different kinds and variety, some are largely noticeable and some are micro particles. Tiny plastic objects are the most dangerous to the sea creatures especially to the marine mammals. These micro or tiny bits and pieces of plastics tend to get consumed accidentally by many marine animals. It is interesting to note that a person widely regarded as anti minorities while ignoring the normative principle of rule of law when protecting the minorities from majoritarian violence, gets elected by popular mandate. In this respect, Moditva ( Modified version of Hindutva) might pose possible threats to India s democratic processes in future. • 34. Media And Anorexia Introduction It is apparent that with the increasing popularity of social media today, there has been a shift in dietary changes within our society. Individuals are subconsciously changing how and what they eat. The question arises, why are so many young women dissatisfied with their bodies, despite their size? Although there are several forces believed to play a role in this dissatisfaction such as peer criticism and parental influences, the thin ideal body is dominating the media (Grabe, Ward, Hyde, 2008). Thinness is largely emphasized and praised for women in magazines, television shows, movies and commercials (Stice Shaw, 1992). Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder that stems from this ubiquitous obsession to be thin and is often associated with a pathological fear of gaining weight, distorted self body image and emaciation (The American Heritage® Science Dictionary). Various studies have demonstrated that when women are shown both photographs or TV commercials with extremely slender models they indicate an increase in dissatisfaction with their body (Crouch Degelman, 1998). A study regarding social media specifically, was conducted by researchers at the University of Haifa on 248 girls ages 12 to 19; they found that the more time girls spent looking at pictures on Facebook, the more they suffered from eating disorders such as Anorexia, as well as other conditions including a heightened urge to diet and lose weight (University of Haifa, 2011). Should these laws include limiting the time of day that a teenage driver can drive alone or the number of passengers permitted in the car? Also, would it be helpful to have a permit system that would give new drivers more experience before they get behind the wheel alone on their own? Are these laws beneficial/necessary for young drivers? Teenage drivers are not always following the laws that are in place that would restrict them from driving during overnight hours, using cell phones, and limiting the number of passengers they can have in the car. It would seem that one of the biggest accomplishments in a teenager s life is receiving their driver s license. It is my opinion that, obtaining a license gives a teenager freedom; a newfound sense of independence. This new independence can be very intoxicating. Teenagers drive themselves to school functions, extracurricular activities, or to work. A friend drives over to visit or to pick them up to go somewhere. It is very thrilling to know that you are not at your parent s mercy to drive you to and from school, meet friends, or to work. But with all of this new freedom comes responsibility which most sixteen year olds are not ready to handle. I understand why teenagers would want to break the law and drive before they are legally ready. Teenagers crave independence. As they grow into young adults, they feel the need to spread their wings, and move away from the nest. Driving is an important milestone that allows teenagers to transition into adulthood independently. Teenagers look forward to that independence with great anticipation, and want to drive earlier, therefore, they end up breaking laws which are there to protect the young teenager. There is a time in the teenage years, especially the ages sixteen twenty which are considered a rite of passage for many individuals who want to apply for a driver s license and legally drive the car as a licensed driver. It isn t just teens that are excited to reach that defining age; even parents are excited and motivated as well to join their kids in this exciting time of their life. • 41. Huckleberry Finn The theme of Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn is that the ideas of society can greatly influence the individual, and sometimes the individual must break off from the accepted values of society to determine the ultimate truth for himself. In Huckleberry Finn s world, society has corrupted justice and morality to fit the needs of the people of the nation at that time. Basically, Americans were justifying slavery, through whatever social or religious ways that they deemed necessary during this time. The conflict between society and Huckleberry Finn results from Huck s non conformist attitude. This attitude is a result of his separation from society at an early age. With a highly abusive drunkard for a father, Huckleberry Finn is forced from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Huckleberry Finn recognizes Jim as a human being, but is fighting the beliefs bestowed upon him by a society that believes slaves should not be free. However, it is important to realize that although Huckleberry Finn s decisions create the conflict between society and himself (and that this conflict forms the theme of the novel), Huck is oblivious to the justice, the righteousness, and even the heroism of his own actions, they are simply in accordance with his own conscience. The climax comes in chapter thirty one of the novel, when Huckleberry Finn s moral development reaches its peak. Up until this point in the novel, Huckleberry Finn has been experiencing internal conflict concerning his treatment of Jim. Society has brought him up to believe that Jim is nothing but property, rightfully belonging to Miss Watson, and so Huck would be wrong in helping Jim flee. At the same time, however, his experiences with Jim, and his own personal instincts about the situation tell him that he is doing the right thing. Huck feels terrible because he cannot please both voices of his conscience. Huckleberry Finn feels as though society is right, and he is wrong. At first, he begins to write a letter to Miss Watson to return Jim, but then ends up destroying the letter and deciding to help free Jim. Specifically, in the novel, Huck says, quot; All right, then I ll go to hell, quot; right as he tore up the letter. This indicates that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although it is an extremely vague and layered term, a good man best fits the description of a man whose intentions are never meant to harm anyone. In addition, readers must remember that the Gatsby in the novel is Nick Carraway s version, and that is a very biased version. Yet, based off of the events depicted in The Great Gatsby, I believe that Jay Gatsby is a good man. Gatsby is not formally introduced until chapter three, and due to his initial description, readers hold him in much higher regard than other characters in the novel. Regardless of how one would go about arguing how Jay Gatsby is not a good man , he is undeniably an embodiment of the American dream. Born James Gatz to two poor farmers in the Midwest, Gatsby s imaginations had never really accepted them as his parents at all. The truth was that Jay Gatsby ... sprang from his Platonic conception of himself. He was a son of God ... to this conception he was faithful to the end (98). The notion of the self made man alone is something that is honored within American society, and therefore, Jay Gatsby is an honorable person. Parallel to Benjamin Franklin, Gatsby envisioned the perfect man and left home with nothing in order to become that idealistic version of himself. Gatsby s similarity to Benjamin Franklin is highlighted by Mr. Gatz with Gatsby s childhood schedule seemingly based off of The Way to Wealth. Yet, being an honorable person alone does not make Gatsby a good man . What does make Gatsby a good man though, is his outstanding selflessness. Despite the immense wealth he gains, Jay Gatsby is always trying to do things for others, such as asking Nick on his boat, or giving a random party goer an entirely new dress after ruining their original dress at one of Gatsby s parties. Even in the case of Gatsby doing Nick favors, Gatsby does not expect anything in return from Nick, but he does hope for a reconnection with Daisy. Part of what really makes Gatsby a good ... In some respects, the story of India is the story of conflict among the most abided of these faiths. Even today, India s political landscape is defined by the struggle between those who would insist that religion is nationality (Islam) and those who maintain that, as a historical entity, India is essentially Hindu and all other faiths are interlopers. BUDDHISM BEFORE ASHOKA Early Buddhism was wracked with factionalism in the century following the death of Gautama Buddha, a situation that did not improve with the convocation of the Second Buddhist Council. Primarily, the dissention within Buddhism stemmed from disagreement over asceticism as a necessary part of monastic life, with certain sects advocating the strict discipline commonly associated with the wandering monks of Hinduism and others embracing the ostensibly Bacchanal yet introspective ethic most associated by Westerners with The Buddha. Naturally, many controversies arose over these competing narratives concerning the nature of The Buddha, and, though each camp has since split into the myriad disciplines Buddhism is known for today, every succeeding schism is an analog of the first, a battle between the essentially Indian (and therefore Hindu) ideal of Vinaya and the dogged quest for Dharma. ASHOKA MAURYA, NOT WITHOUT SORROW Ashoka s rise to the head of the Mauryan Empire was necessarily brutish, owing to the battle for succession that would leave siblings dead and the empire trembling. It would require four years of war to consolidate his position and the deaths of all but one of his brothers, Tissa, whom he left alone because he was a religious man. • 48. Dziga Vertov Dziga Vertov s Man with a Movie Camera presents the everyday urban activities of people from the Soviet Union. Since the documentary film has no story at all, it also does not have continuity of action. This 1929 documentary made use of montage where images were edited together without visible or apparent connection between shots. This documentary film is considered as one of the greatest films of all time. It has neither actors nor story. It basically follows a camera man and his views of the Russian city. It is about film techniques and the process required in making one. Vertov believed that a camera has the power to unveil those aspects of the filmed events which otherwise cannot be perceived. During that time, there are variety of camera angles and editing styles and techniques that are being demonstrated in films. Lastly, the film cuts back to the woman cleaning her face and starting blinking as the windows starts to open and close at the same time (simultaneously with her blinking).
