2. Character Analysis Of Sense And Sensibility
Directed by Taibi Magar, the Playmakers Repertory Company s production of Kate Hamill s play
Sense and Sensibility, adapted from the novel by Jane Austen, portrayed individuals in the late
eighteenth century with great emphasis on their family, money, power, prestige, and social obligation
and how these factors shaped their lives. Sense and Sensibility centered around the idea of rationality
versus emotionality, especially when it came to battling with the choice between duty and desire,
which helped to develop the theme that you should allow yourself to embrace all your qualities, you
do not have to act in only one manner and limit yourself to only strict reason or excess emotion, being
yourself is not a weakness. The stark contrast in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, by the end of the play a subtle shift in each of their character occurs. Elinor begins to allow
herself to entertain the thought of loving and finding happiness, she shares more of herself, and
Marianne starts to reason with herself that she can love Colonel Brandon (Jeffrey Blair Cornell)
because it makes sense and still allow it to make her happy. This character development for both
Dashwood s shows how they learn to embrace the parts of their personality they would not initially
acknowledge, sensibility for Elinor and sense for Marianne, and in doing so discover that they can be
happy. The costumes in Sense and Sensibility contribute to the development of the theme by
highlighting the obvious difference in the personalities of Elinor, the representation of logic and
propriety, and Marianne, the representation of emotion and feeling, that help to make the shift in their
behavior subtler, less obvious because the focus is on what the costumes make it seem like they stand
for. The costumes are unchanging, making it seem like the characters are too, which makes the fact
that they learn to be more than one thing in the end more significant and surprising. The two
Dashwoods costumes, designed by Olivera Gajic, each uniquely embody the quality they represent.

n the Catcher In The Rye by J.D Salinger, Many events and symbols contributed to why Mark David
Chapman and John Hinckley attempted their assassinations. The two really enjoyed the book and had
many copies in their possession. Mark David Chapman believed he could be Holden Caulfield if he
killed John Lennon and transfer to Caulfield s body. Caulfield loved children and considered the adult
world ugly and depressing. His dream, he told his younger sister Phoebe, was to be the catcher in the
rye and save people from falling over the cliff. To fall over the cliff seemed to represent falling into

As a young man, however, he exhibited signs of psychological turmoil. He developed a fascination

obsessed with a girl named Jodie Foster who he had written letters and called to get her attention. The
plan to assassinate President Reagan was hatched in order to somehow impress Foster, and thus catch
her in the rye. She didn t really want anything to do with him so he made the drastic decision to try
and kill the president to get her attention. He wrote her this letter right before the assassination
attempt; Over the past seven months I ve left you dozens of poems, letters and love messages in the
faint hope that you could develop an interest in me. Although we talked on the phone a couple of

Abstract From theoretical viewpoints, analyses of consumer motivation have been applied to the
shopping and the tourism industry for decades. However, little research has been done on night
markets or street vendors. According to the Statistical Information of Taiwan Tourism Bureau (2002

There are three purposes for setting up Tourist Night Markets: 1. To stimulate local business trade and
to increase regional economic benefits. 2. To provide an evening venue for the local people to shop. 3.
To convert some illegal vendors into legal ones. In addition, from a shopper s perspective, it is
expected that the establishment of Tourist Night Markets can reduce some unpleasant shopping
experiences often encountered when visiting the regular hawkers. From the traditional perspective of
marketing s 4P s (McCarthy, 1960), the characteristics of Tourist Night Markets are as follows: (1)
Product the variety of goods and services is wide in Tourist Night Markets. According to the Taipei
City Government s Market Committee (Wang, 2000, as cited in Yang, 2000), over 60% of the vendors
sell food and drinks. The majority of others sell groceries and garments. (2) Price the pricing of each
vendor in the Tourist Night Market is reasonable and allows shoppers to bargain no matter whether
with stationary vendors or stores. (3) Place like the formal traders, vendors in Tourist Night Market
can be found in a fixed location where shoppers must go to buy. Thus, contrary to Arellano s research
(1994), high mobility is not a primary characteristic of Tourist Night Markets vendors. All the vendors
or operators have a fixed space to conduct their business. Location wise, it is mandatory that a huge

5. The Historical Figure Of Jesus
Over the centuries, there have been many conflicts, in both the historical and theological fields
because there is little documented historical information regarding the life and times of Jesus. Many
have attempted using the tools of emerging biblical criticism, modern historiography, plus their
considerable knowledge of ancient Judaism, in order to paint a portrait of a Jesus by detaching Him
from Christian faith; refusing to study Jesus as a divine figure, but as a Jewish man, who was born as a
Jew and died as a Jew; whose teachings could be weighed alongside his contemporaries and those
who came before him. It is a commonplace that they have found their own assumptions and prejudices
concerning the person of Jesus and who He really was. However, during this paper I will attempt to
come to my own conclusions regarding Jesus Christ by discussing The Historical Figure of Jesus by
E.P. Sanders, The Jewish Gospels: The Story of the Jewish Christ by Daniel Boyarin, and The
Changing Faces of Jesus by Geza Vermes. Using these texts I will draw my personal analysis and will
attempt to define who my Jesus is.
Among the most renowned historians who have reported on Jesus is E.P. Sanders. Sanders book, The
Historical Figure of Jesus is an in depth look at the historical life of Jesus. In his work, Sanders sets
out to provide what he calls a discussion of Jesus the human being . Sanders notes that Jesus had a
doctrine, and his life was inseparable from his scriptural

The Characteristics of a Coach
Everyone in society should be a role model, not only for their own self respect, but for respect from
others. ~ Barry Bonds. In this world bad situations occur frequently and it takes a good strong person
to handle them in a mature way. Dealing with them this way not only shows that the person has self
control, but also makes them a good role model for people to look up to. In the book The Chosen,
Chaim Potok uses Mr. Galanter to express his opinions of a good role model. Acting as a baseball
coach and gym teacher, young boys look to him for guidance and motivation every day. Having this

According to his expertise in distinguishing wood, the ladder was constructed by a somewhat skilled

8. The Theory of Attachment and Attachment Styles Essay examples
Attachment is the emotional bond between humans, which is based on our relationship with a parent
or early caregiver during the years of childhood. There are four different attachment styles secure,
preoccupied, dismissive, and fearful each describing a different way in which individuals interact with
others, approach social and romantic relationships, and deal with life.
Each attachment style is divided along two dimensions the fear of abandonment and the fear of
closeness. Bartholomew and Horowitz define fear of abandonment as the model of self which
describes the belief of an individual to be either worthy of love and support or not (1991). They also
define fear of closeness as the model of other which describes an individual s ... Show more content

The preoccupied attachment style is characterized by low fear of closeness and high fear of
abandonment. Individuals classified as preoccupied have a negative model of themselves. Because
preoccupies see themselves as unworthy of love and unsupportive, they tend to strive for self
acceptance by gaining the acceptance of valued others (Bartholomew, 227) and would do everything
to keep people in their life; Preoccupied individuals try to avoid any kind of conflict in order to make
themselves loveable and others happy. Despite the fact that preoccupies often see others as trustworthy
and available, they also feel that others do not care about them as much as they care about others.
Somebody I would classify as preoccupied would be my ex boyfriend. He always felt that other
people around him would not care as much about him as he cared about them. He was worried that I
would not love him as much as he loved me and that I would not return his love. Whenever I broke up
with him, he became upset; he talked to my parents and friends, texted me every day and tried to
convince me to go back to him.
My ex boyfriend tried to avoid any kind of conflict not just with me, but also with his parents just to
keep us happy. However, every time we had a conflict, he either agreed with me or felt bad afterwards
and was afraid that I would not love him anymore.

It can be present any time two parties come into agreement with one another. In a contract, each party
may have the opportunity to gain from acting contrary to the principles laid out by the agreement. For
example, a salesperson may not try his or her best to sell the owner s goods if the salesperson is paid a
flat salary without commissions for the sales. Because the salesperson s income stays the same
regardless of how much the business owner s profit from his or her work. This kind of risk is

parties of a contract. In the salesperson s example, the owner can pay a wage comprised of both flat

From the mini case, it is showed that moral hazard was at the center of the Asian currency crisis. In
the crisis, moral hazard was created by overprotecting the investors, which included government
guarantees, industrial policy, and crony capitalism accorded to industrial firms and banks. Deposit
insurance and other government guarantees for banks were the major source of moral hazard. For

with her articles such as; CNNgo, Marie Claire, and Afar Magazine, just to name a few. Schmitt tell us

During Marie s time, the atom was thought to be the smallest particle in existence. At first, Marie and

elements to find if other ones than Uranium would make the air conduct electricity better.
Pierre was so interested in Marie s work, that he joined forces with her. Her research had revealed that
two uranium ores, pitchblende and chalcolite were much more radioactive that pure uranium. Marie
concluded that the highly radioactive nature of these ores may possibly be due to undiscovered
elements.
In July of 1898, Marie and Pierre Cure discovered Polonium. They named the element after Marie s

Remember by Christina Rossetti, Mother in Refugee Camp by Chinua Achebe and War Photographer
by Carol Ann Duffy all explore different perspectives of death and its inevitability. In the poem
Mother in Refugee Camp, Chinua Achebe exposes the reader to the realistic and horrific conditions of
a refugee camp, culminating in the lamentable death of the child. The language, the use of metaphors
and similes and structure call attention to the idea of cyclical death in a refugee camp. The poem War
Photographer explores the continual cycle of death in war zones. Duffy examines the predicament the
war photographer faces whether to intervene in the ongoing conflict or to uncover the reality and
destruction of conflict. However, Remember exhibits a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As I was sitting in my window seat nervous and looking haggard from a bad night s sleep, a warm
welcoming voice came over the plane s intercom. The first sentence was to inform us we would be
landing soon. The words were in English, but the next voice was foreign but unique in a beautiful
language known as Gaelic. I looked out the window in awe of the picturesque fields of green, the
shimmering blue of the ocean and the pillowing clouds above. It was then that I knew I was no longer

America is said to be the land of the free, which means that every legal citizen is given freedom of

reason why people do not eat Gros Michel anymore due to the genetic monotony of the Gros Michel.
A fungicide resistant pathogen, the Panama disease began infecting the crop. When the growers finally

Due to the common banana going extinct at this time, the entire industry had to be rebuilt for the

28. The Reduction Of Taxes May Be A Good Thing Essay
When given the option to merge three municipalities, people, living within these towns, would seem
hesitant to choose to support the merging because of a lack of support showing that this a good thing.
The lack of research done on the effects of merging of three towns, shows that nobody really know
what will happen if the consolidation was passed. The three towns of Round Lake Beach, and Round
Lake Park would merge into one Round Lake area, as well as, all the business and public services that
each town offers would merge into one. The people in support of this merger suggest that merging
these three town will save the townspeople money by reducing taxes the people pay. There is a lack of
evidence to show how much money merging the three towns would save. The reduction of taxes may
be a good thing but it affects more than just the local businesses, local governments, it has effects over
the schools and their teachers, police departments, hospitals, and fire departments. People might be for
the consolidation because it would save them some money on their taxes. Many retired local
government officials believe that taxpayers are not saving money because they are paying for three
separate governments and each town has to pay for its own police. Others might see it as a good thing
because the town one might live in could improve with the extra money that all the businesses would

The Giving Tree is a poem by Shel Silverstein explaining the relationship between a boy and a tree. As
the boy grew older he found he didn t need the tree as much anymore but he always came back to the
tree when he was in need and the tree never refused him, he just continued to give without question.
This poem helps us realize that you should always be there for someone to rely on, take life easy and
just focus on what you need over what you want. Sometimes in life we re so quick to want to grow up
that we may end up rushing through it and we aren t able to truly treasure the ideal moments that are
worth living for. Life Is too short to skim through and wake up with regrets. Love the people who treat
you right and dismiss those who don t. Believe that everything happens for a reason. If your life

precious moments in life and adore the genuine people in your life who would give anything to make
you happy even if it means losing themselves in the process. I wish that I could give you something....

Many of the greatest inventions ever to be created were coined in ancient China. Soap, gunpowder,
even alcohol was first made in China, long ago. The clock, however, is, I believe, the most important
of all the great chinese inventions. It tells us when to get up in the morning, when to be at school, at
work, how long to brush your teeth, everything! The world runs completely on time, and it s all
because of a certain man who changed the course of the future by just wanting to find out how to tell

completely different. It would be like missing the first step on the stairs. You would fall down them
and land on your face. Where would that put time now? Would we still be stuck on sundials and
shadows? Maybe people would have abandoned that time set, and adopted a whole other system of
time. People would have different intervals of time, different ways of telling time, different
everything! However, the clock was made, and so no one even notices because they are too busy
running off to the next place. All because of time. Too bad Xing s clock didn t make time longer! The

Equipment managers may seem corny or inadequate, but without them it would be difficult for your
team to compete. According to the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) (What Is
Certification, 2008), equipment managers purchase equipment; fit equipment such as football helmets;
checks, clean, and inspect uniforms and equipment to reduce wear and risk of injury while preserving
the life of the equipment and garments as part of the budget management process; and establish a
comprehensive accountability system that includes inventory, reconditioning, and storage. Equipment
managers play a key role in intercollegiate athletics, but sports information directors are important as
well. According to Staurowsky and Abney, sports information directors are responsible for both
technical and management functions. Sports information directors basically make sure to spread the
word of an event coming up. They hand out flyers, game programs, newsletters and a lot more stuff.

Many variations have been developed as people tend to discover various other vessels for cooking.
During the civilizations of Stone Age, it was believed that the first techniques of using cooking vessels
have been used. Among this, there were the improvements to basic roasting, and the use of clay or
large leaves in order to preserve the moisture of the cooked food. In Asia, bamboo tubes can be a used
as a container, while in other places, the shells of turtles or large mollusks are being used as a

41. The Role Of Grania By Lady Gregory
The role of the theatre during the Irish Literary Revival was central to Irish cultural nationalism and
the political dynamics at the start of the 20th century. As a playwright and a co founder of the Abbey
Theatre, Lady Gregory created the backbone of the group that drove the Irish cultural identity towards
a more nationalist outlook. Yet as an Irish nationalist, her participation in political causes was often
muted; not because of her political views, but because of her gender. Though Lady Gregory played a
large part in the literary revival during the Irish nationalist movement, she was wary of rekindling a
past that was built upon the oppression of women. This essay will discuss the influence Gregory s
early life on her works, the portrayal of women by other prominent male playwrights at the time, her
depiction of women in her plays, and the characterization of the female character Grania. Using the
play Grania, Lady Gregory explores possibilities for Irish women to defy gender ... Show more

Gregory s dramatic interpretation of Grania becomes rather more sympathetic and offers justification
for her heroine s actions. According to author Maria Elena Doyle in the article A Spindle for the
Battle: Feminism, Myth, and the Woman Nation in Irish Revival Drama., Ultimately what Grania
wants is social recognition, an acknowledgment that she matters to the world around her as a living
individual rather than as an object of memory. (Doyle 40) As a consequence, Grania s mental strength
leads to her rejection of the patriarchal values within the community. She becomes more than a
symbol for men to interpret, but a ...social being defined by her own actions and interactions. (Doyle
39). By presenting a woman s decision to make her own path, Gregory alters the female standards of
the Revival in a way that does little to support nationalist

Produce an environmental audit, and report assessing the potential environmental impact of the
proposed project on the local Natural Environment.
There are different potential environmental impacts when building the new school on the local natural
environment. Most of which are positive impacts however some may be negative. For the project to
get the go ahead it needs a number of positive impacts on the local environment with minimal
negative impacts. Before the project begins, a run through of what impacts on the local environment
are brought up as the project goes through its construction stages. Some of the potential impacts on the
local natural environment that are positive are: reduction of pollution to the local area; less waste
produced from the project.
Reduction of pollution to the local area
A potential impact on the local natural environment due to the construction of the new school could be
the reduction of pollution to the local land.
At the moment little pollution is in the local environment due to very little building and life being in
the area. The local environment needs to be protected as best as possible. If a normal school was to be
built it could increase the pollution to the local natural environment. This would then make the local ...

44. The Buddhist Temple That Has Created Disagreement Among...
Borobudur located on the island of Java is a Buddhist temple that has created disagreement among the
academic community. There are two schools of thought in which scholars such as art historians and
archeologist debate about what the real significance and purpose of Borobudur is about. For example,
a group of scholars argues that Borobudur is stupa. This contrasts the other scholars who contends that
Borobudur is a mandala. Although both groups of scholars adequately analyze Borobudur and provide
evidence to support their arguments, the argument that the Buddhist temple is both a mandala and
stupa is rational. In this paper, I will present evidence from both sides of the argument, in which
Borobudur has ignited copious amounts of controversy for in the scholarly communities. However, at
the end, I will argue that I disagree with both schools of thought because Borobudur is actually both a
stupa and a mandala.
A stupa is a mound like circular structure that contains the relics of a Buddha. Buddhist frequently
participate in pilgrimages to stupas because of worship opportunities. Although Buddhist architects
built Borobudur in the 9th century, but academics do not know what the original purposes of what the
structure was constructed for. However, though visual and architectural evidence many academics
believe that Borobudur is a stupa. While traditionally, a structure, like a stupa consists of one focalized
and central grand stupa: Borobudur does not; the temple is composed

45. Louis Farrakhan Nation Of Islam
The Nation of Islam is a subsection of the Islamic religion which aims to enlighten and engage Black
Americans, in hopes of freeing them from the oppression of their white counterparts. Though the NOI
make efforts to uplift Black people and teach respect for all people, it is often contemplated whether or
not the organization has pure intentions at its core. This can be due to the fact that there have been
leaders of the organization that teach ideologies that are those of hate, which goes against what the
NOI teaches as a whole. One such leader is Louis Farrakhan, the chief spokesman of the Nation of
Islam. An article revolving around Farrakhan s recent activities were the topics of the article I chose to

statement of sorts, which reads The Nation of Islam is one of the wealthiest organizations in black
America. The main purpose of the Nation of Islam is to teach the downtrodden and defenseless Black
people a thorough Knowledge of God and of themselves, and to put them on the road to Self
Independence with a superior culture and higher civilization than they had previously experienced
which, of course, explains the main purpose of the organization, but does not explain how it is
connected to Islam (NOI). If anything, the website pointed out all of the ways in which the two
religions were different, which can leave one fairly confused, as I noticed some of my classmates were

Fast Food Advertising And Childhood Obesity
A rise in obesity has been observed in the United States in the last two decades. Obesity is one
problem that gives birth to numerous fatal diseases, including but not limited to cardiovascular
disease, diabetes, and depression. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted a
survey and found that, More than one third of U.S. adults (35.7%) and approximately 17% (or 12.5
million) of children and adolescents aged 2 19 years are obese (Ogden, Carroll). One of the main
reasons behind obesity is the American s love for fast food. Fast food contains only a small proportion

The similar advertising bans already exist in some jurisdictions such as in Quebec (Canada) and few
Scandinavian countries (Dhar, Baylis 7). Sweden, Norway, and Finland have banned commercial
sponsorship of children s programs. Sweden also does not permit any television advertising targeting
children under the age of twelve (Role of Media). Quebec s 32 years ban on advertising to children
had led to $88 million annual reduction in expenditures on fast food and 13.4 billion to 18.4 billion
fewer fast food calories being consumed per year (Dhar, Baylis 2 10). Residents of Quebec have a
very sedentary life, yet their obesity rate is comparatively lesser than the US. These figures indicate
that the sanction on fast food advertisement can prove effective in lowering or curbing fast food
consumption in the United States as well. A larger proportion of the US population leads a very active
life. An active life combined with the proper and healthy diet may lead to significant reduction in the
obesity rates. Media and entertainment giant Walt Disney Co s has already banned junk food
advertisements during its TV, radio and other online programs intended for children under the age of
12 (Heavey).

47. The Role Of Nature In The Scarlet Letter
Adultery was and still is one of the most sinful acts one can commit. The Seventh Commandment is
documented in Exodus 20:14: it states Thou shall not commit adultery (Bennett np). In the Bible,
adultery is abhorrent in God s view. In ancient Israel, the penalty for this sin was death, which
indicates how ugly of a sin adultery is viewed as (Bennett np). This is expressed in various texts
including The Scarlet Letter, noticed strongly within Pearl s character. Pearl is represented in the text
as something that came from something so ugly but is a pure and beautiful piece of nature. Pearl is
born as a result of sin and some people disagreed believing that she is a way to realize the
consequences and fix the actions. It is evident in The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly to Pearl and Hester, something so radiant came from a sinful act. A rosebush is mentioned
again when Hester and Pearl are visiting the Governor s house. Pearl wants a rose from the rosebush
she see s in the garden after being denied one she cries. This shows that a pure life is unattainable for
Pearl and Hester because they will forever be followed by the sin. The comparison between Pearl and
the rosebush that is in many chapters allows us to understand Pearl as more of a passionate person like
a rosebush than a result of a crime. Rosebushes have thorns and like Pearl has flaws it but they are
beautiful and pure.
An important part of this novel is placed in the forest. The forest is where Hester and Dimmesdale
meet and talk privately for the first time since the sin was committed. The forest symbolizes an escape
from rules and enters a place where chaos and magic is. This is where Pearl is free from society and
the isolation she experiences because of the rule and judgement in the town. Hester and Pearl as they
are walking through the forest notice gleams of sunshine shining through the clouds above them. Pearl
thinks the sunlight is hiding from Hester because of her sin and the letter she wears on her chest. Pearl,
being an innocent young girl, runs after the sunlight seeking to catch it, the light disappears from
Hester. The light that does not follow Hester represents that her sin follows her everywhere even in the
forest. Pearl says to Hester,

There are different levels of income and consumption in the different areas of China. Dissimilarities in
education, consumption, power, personal habits and tastes lead many multinational companies to view
China as one nation, but certainly not one national market. While overseas companies focus on the
premium market, China s domestic consumer goods companies compete in principal for middle and
low income consumers. Also, the new labor law introduced in January 2008 has improved labor
protection and wage regulations, but most importantly it has raised China s factory labor cost
substantially causing foreign investors in labor intensive, low margin industries to reconsider their
Chinese establishments. China made products are also put under scrutiny with respect to quality,
hygiene and safety problems. In a global environment, which is driven by trade friction and financial

relationship with her and is blind by her love to Charlotte. However, once Maurice returns from
Thailand, and the two go to Charlotte s room to talk, someone else was putting his fingers through her
curls (Smith 266). The irony is surreal at this point of the story (but not surprising as I will explain in
the next paragraph), because the narrator believed she had Charlotte all to herself while she was
supposed to be loyal to Maurice. All throughout the affair, Charlotte was having another affair with a
third man and had no remorse for either of them. Neither Maurice nor the narrator has any idea of the
