Common Sense Explanations And The Explanations Of C....
In this essay I will be exploring the differences between common sense explanations and the
explanations of C. Wright Mills theory of The Sociological Imagination. Common sense is based on
people s personal experiences and their opinions, very often constructed from social norms and
generalised views. Whereas, the Sociological Imagination thought up by sociologist C. Wright Mills
(1959) is based on the ideas of thinking critically and skeptically, in order to think sociologically. He
wrote that in order to do this, we have to understand and grasp the link between current society and
history, personal troubles and public issues. There are three main parts to Sociological Imagination:
social structure, biography and history. In this essay I will set forth the ways in which each of these
approaches would explain the topic of sexuality. I consider sexuality to be an umbrella term for
various features, including sexual orientation, sexual activity, masculinity/femininity and gender roles.
Each of which will be looked at in this essay in order to explore the topic of sexuality in relation to
common sense and the Sociological Imagination.
Sexual orientation is commonly viewed as the term to describe an individual s attraction for others;
who they want to have sex with. This sexual attraction is what s commonly considered to be the
representative of their sexuality. The common sense approach to sexual orientation is well educated on
heterosexuality and the LGBT community. LGBT

Arguments For Illegal Immigrants
The issue of illegal immigrants has raised heated debate in the U.S., after President Trump clarified his
stand on immigration. He maintained that under his plan, there is no legalization path for the illegal
immigrants that reside here currently, unless it is that they have served in the armed forces. Presently,
it is estimated that there are over 11 million illegal / undocumented immigrants in the United States.
He plans to have them deported and once returned home, then may they apply for re entry. The 1952
Act of Immigration and Nationality, defines illegal immigrants also known as illegal aliens as
individuals who are not U.S. nationals or citizens. Some of these undocumented people, have lived in
the U.S. for many years and even raised families here. Although, some may argue that the illegal
immigrants are a burden to the nation s economy and keep wages lower. They have contributed
towards building this country for decades and significantly contribute to state taxes. I feel it would be
impractical and inhumane to deport all illegal immigrants. The U.S. government should offer the
illegal aliens a path to obtain citizenship or legal residency.
Why Give Illegal Immigrants Legal Residency/Citizenship?
Providing a path to the undocumented persons to earn citizenship would greatly benefit the U.S.
economy. Economic experts have revealed that the immigrants residing and working in the country
without authorization earn less income than their potential, pay fewer

The Classic 1957 Movie 12 Angry Men Delves In To A Panel
The classic 1957 movie 12 Angry Men delves in to a panel of twelve jurors who are deciding the life
or death fate of an eighteen year old italian boy accused of stabbing his father to death. The twelve
men selected as jurors are a diverse group, each coming to the table with their own socioeconomic
backgrounds, personal experiences, prejudice s, and all of this plays a role in the jurors attitudes
and/or misconceptions of the accused young man. How each of the jurors, all but Juror Eight played
by Henry Fonda, experiences and personalities impact their original vote of guilty is clear at the
beginning of the movie with the first vote. However, from the start, Juror Eight displays confidence,
and demonstrates leadership abilities utilizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had a pretty miserable eighteen years... I just think we owe him a few words. That s all. Juror Eight
uses the appeal of logos often throughout the film, but one of the most prominent examples occurs
when the jurors are discussing the knife that Juror 4 has pointed out is a unique knife that the
storekeeper testified it was ...The only one of it s kind he had ever had in stock. Juror Eight responds
to Juror Four by saying, No. I m saying it s possible that the boy lost the knife and that someone else
stabbed his father with a similar knife. It s possible. Then Juror Eight pulls the same knife from his
pocket and stabs it into the table next to the murder weapon. Along with the three appeals, Juror Eight
also utilizes logical fallacies to prove a point with other jurors.
Logical fallacies are repeatedly used by the jurors throughout the movie, and Juror Eight is no
exception. After Juror Ten states that he believes the boy is guilty because of the testimony given by
the woman who lives across the street, Juror Eight employs an Ad Hominem fallacy when he responds
to Juror Ten by asking, I d like to ask you something: you don t believe the boy s story. How come you
believe the woman s? She s one of them too, isn t she? Juror Eight uses another Ad Hominem fallacy
just after Juror Three admits he would like to pull the switch to electrocute the boy when Juror Eight
reacts to this by saying,

Essay On Fort Sumter
Development of Fort Sumter was occurring when South Carolina withdrew from the Union on
December 1860. At the time just two organizations of government troops watched the harbor.Robert
Anderson instructed that these organizations were positioned at Fort Moultrie. Perceiving that Fort
Moultrie was defenseless against an area attack, Anderson chose to surrender it for the all the more
effectively faultless Fort Sumter on December 26, 1860. South Carolina volunteer army powers
grabbed the city s different fortresses a short time later, leaving Fort Sumter as the solitary government
station in Charleston. A standoff followed until January 9, 1861, when a boat called the Star of the
West touched base in Charleston with more than 200 U.S. troops and supplies proposed ... Show more

On April 11, volunteer army administrator P.G.T. Beauregard requested that Anderson surrender the
fortification, yet Anderson again denied Beauregard opened flame on Fort Sumter not long after 4:30
a.m. on April 12, 1861. U.S. Commander Abner Doubleday requested the first shots with regards to
the fortress a couple of hours after the fact. Beauregard s 19 beach front batteries unleashed a
rebuffing torrent on Fort Sumter, in the long run discharging an expected 3,000 shots at the
fortification in 34 hours. By Saturday, April 13, gun discharge had gotten through the stronghold s five
foot thick block dividers, bringing on shoot inside the post. With his stores of ammo exhausted,
Anderson was compelled to surrender the post not long after 2 p.m. toward the evening. No Union
troops had been killed amid the siege, however two men kicked the bucket the next day in a blast that
happened amid an ordnance salute held before the U.S. departure. In the days taking after the ambush,
Lincoln issued a call for Union volunteers to suppress the disobedience, while more Southern states

Things Fall Apart Imperialism Essay
While there are many novels written about white colonization in Africa, Chinua Achebe s Things Fall
Apart illustrates the views of not only the Nigerian people in Igbo but also the white imperialist side
of the story. Achebe wrote the novel as a response to other books about the colonization of Africa,
which were typically written by white men. Joseph Conrad, among many other authors wrote African
characters as less intelligent and primitive humans who were better off after the colonization of Africa.
Achebe shows the reader that the people of Igbo had a fully functioning civilization with a developed
religion, language, and political system. They were not just a helpless, uneducated civilization waiting

He settles this dispute by going to Mbaino and commanding them to send Umofia a virgin and a
young man or else they will go into war. The white colonists may have viewed this exchange as
unnecessary and would have just killed or locked up the person who murdered the tribesman. Also, in
Igbo culture for a man to be called a real man, he must have at least two wives. Unlike in Umofia, the
white settlers believe that polygamous marriages are a sin due to their practice of Christian values.
What was seemingly normal to the Igbo culture was shamed in European culture which is why the
colonists attempted to spread their religion and reduce the amount of sins being committed. Umofia
had a strong belief system with ancestral spirits. During the Week of Peace, the people of Umofia
must live in peace to honor the earth goddess Ani or else she will not give them a blessing, resulting in
crop failure. The white colonists didn t agree with their beliefs and rituals and thought that Christianity
was more refined and showed a greater amount of intellect. When twins were born, the Igbo people
believed that they were sent by the devil and must be killed. They didn t question it because their
ancestors had been doing it for hundreds of years. When the Christian missionaries arrived, they were
horrified by the thought of child infanticide, believing

Effects Of Obesity On Obesity And Obesity
As aforementioned, many people believe that obesity is caused by just overconsumption of fatty
foods, but there is more to it. Definitely overconsumption of fats is a major factor and recipe to
obesity, but also calorie intake and amount of exercise has a lot to do with becoming overweight. If a
person s diet includes a greater amount of calorie than the amount of daily exercise, then that excess
calorie will be stored as fat. It is not necessary to take in more calories than what the body usually uses
up after daily exercise because this will disrupt the balance and cause an unhealthy imbalance with
food proportions thus, leading to weight gain. It is best when children are involved in physical
activities while they are young because it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, not having good programs that bring local fruits and vegetables to schools, businesses, and
communities may determine the quantity of obese people living in that community or environment
(CDC, 2012). Not having communities set up to facilitate and encourage exercise and healthy living
may lead to this prevailing disease called obesity. In some disorders, genetics can be a direct cause of
obesity. On the other hand, genetics is one factor that may increases the likelihood of the disease.
Studies have proven that genes have a great deal to do with obese persons. Treuth (2003) states that
Obesity tends to regularly follow children who have obese parents, however parents with regular body
weight can still have obese children (p. 1212 1218). Genetics can cause obesity, but it is not a major
recorded factor of obesity. It is easy for one to say that, obesity runs in my family, but according to
(CDC, 2012) what is happening is although obesity is greatly determined by genetics, and a
population s genetic structure does not change overnight. Hence, an increase in . . .[obesity] will have
to show drastic changes of non genetic determinants. Results If a person is affected by obesity, it is not
the end of the world. It can be combated, not only with vaccines, but also with a positive mindset and
the right attitude to get the body healthy and in functional condition. There are many different
measures that

Why Have Your Home Windows Tinted
Why Have Your Home Windows Tinted
When it comes to tinting windows, many people immediately think of the windows on their car. Home
windows can also be tinted, with them providing several benefits that you may not be aware of. Here
are three reasons to have your home windows tinted.
Window Tints Will Control UV Light Exposure
If your windows use regular glass that does not have a tint, it will allow ultraviolet light into your
home. While sunlight can be good to get your vitamin D, too much UV light could cause health issues
like skin cancer. You may be indoors as opposed to layout outdoors under the sun, but you are still at
risk of the health conditions that come with having too much sun exposure if you are not careful.

The Silence Of The Lambs Essay
The Silence of the Lambs is about the pursuit of a serial killer who skins and kills his victims. To help
catch this serial killer, a young FBI trainee is sent to confide in Hannibal Lecter, another psychopath
who eats and kills his victims. The reviews that I have chosen to discuss commend the film, and talk
about different aspects. Vincent Canby praises the performance of the actors, and the dialogue.
Desmond Ryan praises the film for having a unique storyline, setting it apart from other films of the
same genre. Both reviews present strong positive arguments towards the film. The acting, the
relationships between characters, the plot and effects contributed to make this film one of the best
suspenseful and thrilling films ever. The actors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a unique storyline: Demme brought new life to movies about serial killers. The idea of tracking one
psychopath through the warped mind of another, creates a plot that sets it apart from the rest
(Ryan, paraphrased). This is the reasoning to why I completely agree with Mr. Ryan. This genre of film
has become very repetitive, the director took a different approach, created a plot that has never been
seen before and leaves the audience at the edge of their seats the entire film. The plot is unique,

Good Journalism and Citizenship
The world is a hectic mess today. News is happening all around us, and the only source that acts as a
filter between the chaos and ourselves is the media. The media, journalists especially, must hold upon
themselves a great responsibility when they are acting as this filtering apparatus between the ordered
and unordered. But is that the only thing journalism does: make sense of the news? No, it does much
more than that. Good journalism is working, with help from the citizenry, to create an enlightened
Republic filled with citizens who will be well informed of the events which intersect their lives. There
are a number of measures, though, that journalists must take before they can go from simply making
sense of the news to creating an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And this is not only a discussion between citizens and citizens or leaders and leaders but rather
between citizens and leaders; the press simply acts as a medium. Justice Douglas wrote in New York
Times Co. v. United States that [o]pen debate and discussion of public issues are vital to our national
health. On public questions there should be uninhibited, robust, and wide open debate. Although
debate and discussion are vital to the Republic, maybe society should rethink about how uninhibited,
robust, and wide open those debates really are. Society today tends to think of debates as two
opposing ideas battling each other out in order to ascertain which idea comes out in first, and, as
Kovach and Rosenstiel point out, a debate focused only on the extremes of argument does not serve
the public but instead leaves most citizens out (167). The problem with this is that there are not only
one or two given positions on any given issue, but there are many positions. In the debates that go on
today, those positions which are often left out are often those which are also most agreeable with each
other. So instead of letting debates focus only on the extremes, [t]he public forum must include the
broad areas of agreement, where most of the public resides and where the solutions to society s
problems are found (Kovach and Rosenstiel 167). And since it is the news media which

Synthesis and Analysis of Iron(III) Oxalate Complex Discussion
This experiment initially involved the synthesis of an iron (III) oxalate complex with the general
formula Kw[Fex(C2O4)y] zH2O. The variables x, y, and z were determined
through the duration of the entire experiment. Part 1 involves the synthesis of an iron (III) oxalate
complex. The iron is first presented in its Fe2+ form, so it must first be oxidized to
Fe3+ before the oxalate ion will readily bind to it. Hydrogen peroxide is the oxidant of choice: 2Fe2+
(aq) + H2O2 (l) + 2H+ (aq) 2Fe3+ (aq) + 2H2O (l), in acidic solution.
The oxalate ion is then free to coordinate to the Fe3+ ion, forming a ... Show more content on

Part 2 of this experiment invoked the use of redox
titrating to determine the oxalate content (C2O42 ) of the salt. An aqueous solution of the iron oxalate
salt is prepared for titration, and the oxalate content is found through analysis
by measuring the volume of titrant.
Part 3 of the experiment utilized Spectrophotometry to determine the iron content in the iron (III)
oxalate complex. The results were combined with findings from Part 1 and
Part 2 to determine the empirical formula and percentage yield of the compound synthesized in Part 1.
Spectrophotometry is a routine laboratory test that has the added advantage
of being able to analyze multiple samples in a short amount of time. The most efficient way of
determining concentration is to prepare a set of standard solutions of known
concentration, record the absorbance readings at a fixed wavelength, and plot the absorbance vs.
concentration data. The wavelength of 520 nm was selected for experiment Part
3 because this is the maximum absorbance for the iron (III) ion. The Beer s Law Plot that was graphed
came out to be linear with an equation of:
Absorbance = 5.395 x 10^3(Fe^+2 Bipy) 0.0014.
The empirical formula that was determined was different from that of the true compound mentioned.
The empirical formula determined was:
K3[Fe(C2O4^ 2)3] 3 H2O

To What Extent Should Women Have The Right To Their Own...
Women should have the rights to their own bodies because taking away that right will only lead to
more dangerous paths. Taking the life of a criminal would only be the easy way out, and will not bring
the victims back. Women should have the rights to their own bodies, because I as a human does not
mean that the state can decide what is right for my body. For many years the government has been
arguing whether or not to make abortions illegal, but if that were to become reality then more back

abortions and thousands were harmed as a result of illegal abortions. I and numerous amount of people
would agree that allowing women to control whether or not to have a child and having a legal and safe

Victorian Women in the Work Force Essay
Victorian Women in the Work Force The Victorian period is often defined by its antique images of
flowers, doilies, rosy cheek children and intricate fashion. However, these trite images shadow the true
realities of middle class families struggling to succeed in the emerging business world. Traditionally,
the men spent long days in the city working out business affairs, while the women stayed home with
the children preparing meals and planning for social gatherings. Work was often not an option for
women because they were seen as incapable of any duty outside of the home. However, with the onset
of Queen Victoria s reign, the women of England slowly began to challenge their subservient roles,

She was capable of handling governmental affairs while also showing herself to be obedient to Prince
Albert, her beloved husband, which became an admirable trait among the English wives of this period
(20). Likewise, many historians refer to the Queen as a paradox because she combined her middle
class roots with her aristocratic reign. As one author says, That the queen of England became the
central embodiment of middle class familial values held great significance for the representation and
role of bourgeois women (Langland 64). Queen Victoria s concern for the middle class served as a
basis by which English women were able to go outside of their domestic realm and break some of the
existing stereotypes.
Stereotypes of Victorian Women
The stereotypes of this period classified the ideal Victorian woman as being family oriented and
subservient to their male counterparts. She was supposed to love children and also to avoid hurtful
blunt statements and make her husband the center of her life and be the Light of the Home while her
husband tangled with the world at large (Palmer). Marriage was supposed to be the Victorian woman s
highest aim so that she could fulfill her aspiration of creating a family (Dunhill 23). Within the family,
the wife would provide the meals, care for the children, and prepare for any social gatherings that may

plainly see, were made to be breeched, and so we have breeches. . . . Consequently, those who say
everything is well are uttering mere stupidities; they should say everything is for the best(pg. 4) What
Voltaire is trying to explain here is that Pangloss thinks that everything happens for a reason and even
though it may be something bad, it happens for the best. Pangloss teaches this philosophy with a
strong emphasis and he really believes in it.
In comparing these two characters, Candide and Pangloss have many similarities. One of the main
reasons for this is because Pangloss is Candide s philosophical teacher and Candide

Why Was Lady Jane Grey
Lady Jane Grey was 16 when she faced the block. Barely having ruled for 9 days she was overthrown
by Queen Mary and forced to resign her title as queen. But what is it that lead her to be overthrown?
Why was she crowned Queen in the first place? As a result because of the countries religious
reformations it is a major point to what lead to Lady Jane s usurpation and her succession battle with
Queen Mary between 1547 1553. Due to that the countries beliefs were split, who would be King
Edward s successor was in everyone s interest especially for the Queen Mary and the Duke of
Northumberland. Because the people of England were on Mary s side it made it harder for who was
the rightful successor which led to a battle for the crown.

She is often seen as a well educated and determined young woman of fierce integrity (Whitlock) and
most importantly she grew up as a strict protestant. Wanting Protestantism to continue and at the same
time to promote his own dynastic line (The British Monarchy Lady Jane Grey ) the Duke of
Northumberland took control of Jane. The Duke of Northumberland was a very powerful man during
that time, he was the regent, president of the Kings council and one of his son s was married to Lady
Jane Grey. A letter was found written by John Banister on May 28th 1553 stating the latest news of the
King s illness. It was then that it was made clear in the letter that the King would not live beyond
autumn. (Bindoff)Knowing this the Duke knew that if the King died he would lose all his power
because Mary was the next in line for the crown. Knowing that Mary was a strict Catholic he began to
persuade Edward to make Mary and Elizabeth illegitimate to the crown and that Lady Jane would be
his successor. The Royal Council agreed and on the 21st June 1553 an act of parliament was signed
(The British Monarchy Mary I )stating that Mary and Elizabeth were illegitimate to the crown and
declared that Jane Grey would be the next in line for the throne. (Cavendish) This was the final step
that had led to Lady Jane becoming the next

Intelligence Is An Important Factor
Intelligence can determines what classes you take, what jobs you get, your level of education, your
type of lifestyle, your future and etc.... Intelligence is an important factor in our lives but what exactly
is it? Intelligence has many different meanings due to different investigators having numerous
definitions of it. For example, in a 1921 conference, American psychologists Lewis M. Terman and
Edward L. Thorndike contrasted over the definition of intelligence, Terman believed that intelligence
was the ability to think abstractly while Thorndike alleged that intelligence was learning and the
ability to give good responses to questions (Sternberg, 2014). Overtime, psychologists have been able

These dispute first initiated in 1865 with an English scientist, Francis Galton who began studying the
correlation on hereditary and success (Behavioral Neuroscience Web Ring Macalester College).
Convinced, based on his evidence, that success and other abilities were mostly based on hereditary
factors, he deduced that intelligence must be bred and not trained (Wilderdom, 2005). He then
opposed those who believed in the environmental effects on intelligence (Behavioral Neuroscience
Web Ring Macalester College). For centuries, this debate had no clear conclusion but many theories
and hypothesis. Although both the nature and nurture side has find great amount of evidence, it is still
undecided which side has more effects in one s intelligence. First, the theory about how genes can
affect your intelligence can be tested thanks to the birth of monozygotic or identical twins born from
the same cell (Behavioral neuroscience Web Ring Macalester College). Because children share 50% of
their genes with each of their parents, this then becomes an interesting area of research because they
could compare monozygotic twins who share 100 percent of their genes. This is good because they
both obtained 50% of their parents genes plus they are identical twins so this gives a great window to
research. In

Bank Regulation Of The Modern Day Economy
Bank regulation plays a vital part in the economy today and can be attributed for a lot of its success. It
has even been taken to the extent of individuals claiming bank regulation to be the backbone of our
modern day economy. To fully understand this topic it is first important to define what bank
regulations are. Bank regulations are a kind of government regulation that makes banks liable to
certain requirements, restrictions and guidelines. Bank regulation includes determining specific
regulations and guidelines to oversee all of the activities and operations of banking organizations.
Banking regulations can vary widely between nations and can even be changed due to certain
jurisdictions. However, even though they can differ, most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robert Morris, who served as the first Superintendent of Finance by the Articles of Confederation,
proposed the Bank of North America would act as the sole fiscal and monetary agent for the
government. Hence Morris s nickname as, the father of the system of credit, and paper circulation, in
the United States. This ultimately led to the creation of the first bank in 1791, the Bank of North
America which is located in Philadelphia until its congressional charter expired in 1811 (which was
used specifically to fund the American Revolutionary War). This allowed for The Bank of North
America to be granted a monopoly on the issue of bills of credit as currency at the national level. A
second Bank of the United States was created in 1816 and operated until 1832 (primary used to fund
the US War in 1812). During these time periods, banks were extremely cautious about who they
allowed to lend their money to and typically only distributed short term loans.
After this time period, the United States experienced a period where the majority of banks were made
up of small commercial banks instead of one centralized unit. One of the risks that occurred from
transitioning from central banking to the use of small banks was a high risk of failing because they ran
the risk of liquidity risk. Liquidity risk is defined

Measuring Economic Participation and Social Protection
Gender discrimination has always been a problem that affected our society, where women were and
continue to be treated inferior to men and were downgraded to do domestic work. Although there have
been several reforms in trying to lower inequality against women because of the now known great
importance to the development of society, it still, nonetheless plagues our society. The promotion of
gender equality is co existent with social protection and the first step to combating gender inequality,
while simultaneously combating problems related to poverty and education. Inequality does not only
exist in the form of gender inequality, but also in income distribution as well, where the top quintile of
the population consumes far more than the bottom quintile of the population. The existence of unequal
income distribution can potentially lead to aristocracy, in which a few members or countries have
control over most resources and income (Thomas Caroll Associates, 2013). Dubner and Levitt as cited
by Thomas Caroll and Associates use a classic example of the Black Disciples, in which gang
members received a mere $3.30 per hour, with minimum wage being $5.15 and over half of the
income was received by gang leader. The members forfeited the chance of earning the higher income
with the probability of becoming the next gang leader; however 1 of 4 died in their pursuit of
becoming gang leaders. This application can be used in real life, where wealth is concentrated among

The Teamsters Union
The Teamsters Union derived from a group of people who fought for the freedoms most Americans do
not appreciate today. They stood together to develop the American Dream to start union and labor
movement. This advancement helped the working and living standards for the people of America,
gaining privileges and rights within their communities and families. Teamsters has the most strength
and diverse labor union in North America. The group began by connecting two leading team driver
associations in 1903. Team Driver s International was the original name, then becoming the
International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and years later going by The Teamsters Union. They were the
sturdiness of economic growth in America, but needed to come together to seize their participation
with corporations tending to be more self concerned. The Teamsters Union still has the same goals and
tactics today. They are striving for change on global labor and trade, state and living wages, the United
States Labor alone, and social justice.
Teamsters strive to help workers who want to bargain collectively. As management enforces a set
agreement and sign it, the Union works to make it happen and hold the management to its standards.
Contracts under Teamsters can guarantee fair wages, proper promotion, health insurance, job safety,
off time pay and retirement pay. The Teamsters earliest strike was made up of 4,600 people from

the case of groundwater, Texas has historically given the right to pump the groundwater to the

solve many of the disputes that could come up. Similarly, Texas has more agreements with other states
including the Sabine River Compact Commission and the Rio Grande Compact. These commission

How Does Media Bias Affect Law Enforcement
Media bias affects just about anything in a society. It can portray certain people from different ethnic,
culture, and religious backgrounds as second class citizens and deteriorates their images as a peaceful
law abiding citizen. However, media bias also affects law enforcement. In the last few years, the
media has painted police officers as a negative image. With the unfortunate events of Travon Martin,
Mike Brown and others, the media has depicted law enforcement as a whole to be the bad guys. The
story of Travon Martin is what brought attention to certain unnecessary forces that a few police
officers had choose to use. On the night of February 26, 2012, Martin was shot by a police officer,
George Zimmerman, whom was not charged for murder.

Binge Drinking Research Paper
An Intervention to Prevent Binge Drinking Among College Students
Binge drinking is defined by the Center for Disease Control (2017) as 5 or more alcoholic drinks for
males or 4 or more alcoholic drinks for females on the same occasion Our team believes that this
matter is something that we could address within our own community at the University of Hawaii at
Hilo. In this paper, we will provide supporting evidence that binge drinking is indeed a problem on
our college campus. Next, we will propose an intervention to help reduce incidence and provide
support for those individuals that are affected by binge drinking. We will then explore the rationale
behind our intervention and how it might work to benefit those afflicted. Finally, we will explore how
we can evaluate the success or failure of said intervention.

Tourism has several impacts on many different aspects of Bali s society. Tourism has impacted on the
already existing, social, economic, cultural and environmental processes of the island. For example, as
a result of tourism the pace of urbanisation has rapid increased and tourism has sped up the process of
economic development.
There are large economic consequences on the economy of Bali. One significant impact on Bali is the
foreign exchange earnings. Tourism is the fourth largest income earner for Indonesia at around US 5.5

The social and cultural processes are also significantly impacted. Tourism has helped develop and
keep up the unique culture of the island, it has helped revive artistic traditions, and has provided an
economic justification for preserving them. But tourism has also led to importantly behavioural
impacts, for example; nude sunbathing by tourist is widely disliked by the locals, as well as that lack
of respect is shown by tourists in scared places such as temples. Another negative impact is the social
development of Bali. There are constant conflicts between local villagers and developers who want the
land for hotels and attractions like golf courses. These social impacts have led to a loss in culture and
heritage. Another significant impact is the turning of Balinese culture into a commodity. The major
influx of tourists has plagued Bali s culture. Dances, ceremonies and arts and crafts are all now
adapted to tourists timetables and tastes, and are mass produced to reduce cost. Also because more
people are choosing to work in the tourism industry, this has meant that fewer are available doe
traditional ceremonies and communal tasks, placing more pressure on traditional community
organisations.
As a result of tourism Bali has suffered a lot. In my opinion tourism has plagued Bali and it s culture.
Tourism brings in a lot of money for Indonesia and Bali, but as a result of it the beautiful island is

Agile Methodologies For Software Development
Agile Methodologies for Software Development
Introduction:
In agile development model, the development of software is in incremental, rapid cycles. It is building
new features on previous functionality with each small incremental release. The software quality is
maintained by rigorously testing each release. It is useful for time critical applications. The most well
known current agile development life cycle model is Extreme Programming (XP).
Why Agile model:
The freedom that agile gives when new changes are needed to be implemented is very important. New
changes can be implemented at very little cost because of the incremental releases. Even late changes
in requirements are welcomed
Unlike the waterfall model in agile model very limited planning is required to get started with the
project. Agile assumes that the end users needs are ever changing in a dynamic business and IT world.
Changes can be discussed and features can be newly effected or removed based on feedback. This
effectively gives the customer the finished system they want or need. Face to face conversation is the
best form of communication.
In order to implement a new feature the developers need to lose only the work of a few days, or even
only hours, to roll back and implement it. Close, daily cooperation between business people and
developers. Regular adaptation to changing circumstances.
There is customer satisfaction by rapid, continuous delivery of useful software.

Essay On Sociology Is The Father Of Sociology
Sociology
1. What is the science of sociology?
Sociology is defined as a systematic arrangement of knowledge that indicates operations in
consideration to the general laws. In a general approach, sociology is defined briefly as the study of
how human interact in their daily social life. The word sociology is developed from two main other
words socio and logos . The meaning of socio is society and the meaning of logos is science. That
means sociology is the science used to study human social life. In addition to this sociology is not
concerned with only the social interaction but also the daily social changes.
Different approaches have been developed for the study and examination of sociology but never has
there been an acceptable concept to this study. The reason is that sociology involves a study of human
lives and the behaviors and therefore, it is a very complicated topic to study. Sociology is composed
by various sociological theories which in many cases they contradict each other leading to a lot of
issues about this topic (Horowitz, 2017).

The Importance Of Doing Business In Canada
Doing business in Canada is often synonymous with North American business practices. In most cases
there is little difference in managerial style, business language and approach to agreements whether
you re standing in Calgary, Alberta or Chicago, Illinois. There is an exception to this general principle
however. Doing business in indigenous communities and with indigenous peoples in Canada is almost
unrecognizable from models used across North America. Indigenous culture is different, the values are
different, and the measure of time is different. This paper will briefly highlight some of the intricacies
of managing business relationships in Canada s indigenous communities.

There are no cold, unemotional deals in these communities; as such, trust and communication become
key elements to managing business relationships in Indian Country . (Edworthy, 2014) Many of the
trust issues have nothing to do with the partners at the table, but are latent cultural issues as a result of
intrusive legislation and regulation. (Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, 2014) Communication
with indigenous peoples can present unique challenges as well. As English and business English are
not the first languages used by indigenous peoples, long pauses and quiet tones are often used when
Western culture would dictate otherwise. Prolonged eye contact, a sign of genuineness in western
culture, can be enough to cause mistrust and discomfort among indigenous peoples so strongly that it
could jeopardize nearly completed business arrangements and agreements. (Joseph, 2015) It is critical
that research into the individual communities and their customs be conducted by the proponents prior
to making contact. This extra time can avoid costly and time consuming

Why Is Evolution Wrong

many conflicting views and perception that rises when it comes to religious beliefs, values, and ethics.
Many people question the theory of evolution however, these claims and arguments have many
fallacies that does not justify or prove that evolution is wrong. In my internet expose I have chosen
three topics to research and have provided a full analysis of articles from websites that falsely argues
against three topics about evolution. The three topics I have chosen to write about is: the evolutionary

our relation with modern primates such as monkeys and apes are: Human vs. Primates from

there is a significant similarity of how fossils record, physical features, and even some behavioral

All of the cash flows are discounted back to the year of 2002 in the calculation of NPV value. With the
annual cost savings of $80 from 2003 to 2007 and the integration cost of total $130, Timken s new
NPV is calculated to be $970.42. There is the possibility that Timken can lose its BBB investment
grade rating. This is due to Timken taking on the $800 million in debt it needs to purchase Torrington.
The change in the company s debt composition will change ratios such as debt to capital which is used
to determine the investment grade rating. Compared to other industrial firms, Timken shows relatively
high sales numbers ($279.4 million) as well EBITDA figures ($275.7 million). According to table 3
(p. 4), only three ratios will change as taking on the $800 million in debt. The first one is EBIT
Interest Coverage Ratio, which drops from 2.63 to 0.90 and investment rating scale falls from BBB to
B. The second ratio is EBITDA Interest Coverage Ratio, which drops from 4.3 to 3.14 and investment
rating scale falls from BBB to B. The third one is Total Debt/Capital Ratio, which increases from 43
percent to 67 percent and drives the rating from BB to B. In conclusion, the $800 million debt has a
negative impact on Timken, since it lowers company s investment rating scale. If Timken decides to

  • 2. Common Sense Explanations And The Explanations Of C.... In this essay I will be exploring the differences between common sense explanations and the explanations of C. Wright Mills theory of The Sociological Imagination. Common sense is based on people s personal experiences and their opinions, very often constructed from social norms and generalised views. Whereas, the Sociological Imagination thought up by sociologist C. Wright Mills (1959) is based on the ideas of thinking critically and skeptically, in order to think sociologically. He wrote that in order to do this, we have to understand and grasp the link between current society and history, personal troubles and public issues. There are three main parts to Sociological Imagination: social structure, biography and history. In this essay I will set forth the ways in which each of these approaches would explain the topic of sexuality. I consider sexuality to be an umbrella term for various features, including sexual orientation, sexual activity, masculinity/femininity and gender roles. Each of which will be looked at in this essay in order to explore the topic of sexuality in relation to common sense and the Sociological Imagination. Sexual orientation is commonly viewed as the term to describe an individual s attraction for others; who they want to have sex with. This sexual attraction is what s commonly considered to be the representative of their sexuality. The common sense approach to sexual orientation is well educated on heterosexuality and the LGBT community. LGBT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Arguments For Illegal Immigrants The issue of illegal immigrants has raised heated debate in the U.S., after President Trump clarified his stand on immigration. He maintained that under his plan, there is no legalization path for the illegal immigrants that reside here currently, unless it is that they have served in the armed forces. Presently, it is estimated that there are over 11 million illegal / undocumented immigrants in the United States. He plans to have them deported and once returned home, then may they apply for re entry. The 1952 Act of Immigration and Nationality, defines illegal immigrants also known as illegal aliens as individuals who are not U.S. nationals or citizens. Some of these undocumented people, have lived in the U.S. for many years and even raised families here. Although, some may argue that the illegal immigrants are a burden to the nation s economy and keep wages lower. They have contributed towards building this country for decades and significantly contribute to state taxes. I feel it would be impractical and inhumane to deport all illegal immigrants. The U.S. government should offer the illegal aliens a path to obtain citizenship or legal residency. Why Give Illegal Immigrants Legal Residency/Citizenship? Providing a path to the undocumented persons to earn citizenship would greatly benefit the U.S. economy. Economic experts have revealed that the immigrants residing and working in the country without authorization earn less income than their potential, pay fewer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Classic 1957 Movie 12 Angry Men Delves In To A Panel The classic 1957 movie 12 Angry Men delves in to a panel of twelve jurors who are deciding the life or death fate of an eighteen year old italian boy accused of stabbing his father to death. The twelve men selected as jurors are a diverse group, each coming to the table with their own socioeconomic backgrounds, personal experiences, prejudice s, and all of this plays a role in the jurors attitudes and/or misconceptions of the accused young man. How each of the jurors, all but Juror Eight played by Henry Fonda, experiences and personalities impact their original vote of guilty is clear at the beginning of the movie with the first vote. However, from the start, Juror Eight displays confidence, and demonstrates leadership abilities utilizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He had a pretty miserable eighteen years... I just think we owe him a few words. That s all. Juror Eight uses the appeal of logos often throughout the film, but one of the most prominent examples occurs when the jurors are discussing the knife that Juror 4 has pointed out is a unique knife that the storekeeper testified it was ...The only one of it s kind he had ever had in stock. Juror Eight responds to Juror Four by saying, No. I m saying it s possible that the boy lost the knife and that someone else stabbed his father with a similar knife. It s possible. Then Juror Eight pulls the same knife from his pocket and stabs it into the table next to the murder weapon. Along with the three appeals, Juror Eight also utilizes logical fallacies to prove a point with other jurors. Logical fallacies are repeatedly used by the jurors throughout the movie, and Juror Eight is no exception. After Juror Ten states that he believes the boy is guilty because of the testimony given by the woman who lives across the street, Juror Eight employs an Ad Hominem fallacy when he responds to Juror Ten by asking, I d like to ask you something: you don t believe the boy s story. How come you believe the woman s? She s one of them too, isn t she? Juror Eight uses another Ad Hominem fallacy just after Juror Three admits he would like to pull the switch to electrocute the boy when Juror Eight reacts to this by saying, ... • 5. Essay On Fort Sumter Development of Fort Sumter was occurring when South Carolina withdrew from the Union on December 1860. At the time just two organizations of government troops watched the harbor.Robert Anderson instructed that these organizations were positioned at Fort Moultrie. Perceiving that Fort Moultrie was defenseless against an area attack, Anderson chose to surrender it for the all the more effectively faultless Fort Sumter on December 26, 1860. South Carolina volunteer army powers grabbed the city s different fortresses a short time later, leaving Fort Sumter as the solitary government station in Charleston. Beauregard requested that Anderson surrender the fortification, yet Anderson again denied Beauregard opened flame on Fort Sumter not long after 4:30 a.m. on April 12, 1861. U.S. Commander Abner Doubleday requested the first shots with regards to the fortress a couple of hours after the fact. Beauregard s 19 beach front batteries unleashed a rebuffing torrent on Fort Sumter, in the long run discharging an expected 3,000 shots at the fortification in 34 hours. By Saturday, April 13, gun discharge had gotten through the stronghold s five foot thick block dividers, bringing on shoot inside the post. With his stores of ammo exhausted, Anderson was compelled to surrender the post not long after 2 p.m. toward the evening. No Union troops had been killed amid the siege, however two men kicked the bucket the next day in a blast that happened amid an ordnance salute held before the U.S. departure. • 6. Things Fall Apart Imperialism Essay While there are many novels written about white colonization in Africa, Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart illustrates the views of not only the Nigerian people in Igbo but also the white imperialist side of the story. Achebe wrote the novel as a response to other books about the colonization of Africa, which were typically written by white men. Joseph Conrad, among many other authors wrote African characters as less intelligent and primitive humans who were better off after the colonization of Africa. He settles this dispute by going to Mbaino and commanding them to send Umofia a virgin and a young man or else they will go into war. The white colonists may have viewed this exchange as unnecessary and would have just killed or locked up the person who murdered the tribesman. Also, in Igbo culture for a man to be called a real man, he must have at least two wives. Unlike in Umofia, the white settlers believe that polygamous marriages are a sin due to their practice of Christian values. What was seemingly normal to the Igbo culture was shamed in European culture which is why the colonists attempted to spread their religion and reduce the amount of sins being committed. Umofia had a strong belief system with ancestral spirits. During the Week of Peace, the people of Umofia must live in peace to honor the earth goddess Ani or else she will not give them a blessing, resulting in crop failure. The white colonists didn t agree with their beliefs and rituals and thought that Christianity was more refined and showed a greater amount of intellect. • 7. Effects Of Obesity On Obesity And Obesity As aforementioned, many people believe that obesity is caused by just overconsumption of fatty foods, but there is more to it. Definitely overconsumption of fats is a major factor and recipe to obesity, but also calorie intake and amount of exercise has a lot to do with becoming overweight. If a person s diet includes a greater amount of calorie than the amount of daily exercise, then that excess calorie will be stored as fat. It is not necessary to take in more calories than what the body usually uses up after daily exercise because this will disrupt the balance and cause an unhealthy imbalance with food proportions thus, leading to weight gain. Also, not having good programs that bring local fruits and vegetables to schools, businesses, and communities may determine the quantity of obese people living in that community or environment (CDC, 2012). Not having communities set up to facilitate and encourage exercise and healthy living may lead to this prevailing disease called obesity. In some disorders, genetics can be a direct cause of obesity. On the other hand, genetics is one factor that may increases the likelihood of the disease. Studies have proven that genes have a great deal to do with obese persons. Treuth (2003) states that Obesity tends to regularly follow children who have obese parents, however parents with regular body weight can still have obese children (p. 1212 1218). Genetics can cause obesity, but it is not a major recorded factor of obesity. It is easy for one to say that, obesity runs in my family, but according to (CDC, 2012) what is happening is although obesity is greatly determined by genetics, and a population s genetic structure does not change overnight. Hence, an increase in . . .[obesity] will have to show drastic changes of non genetic determinants. Results If a person is affected by obesity, it is not the end of the world. It can be combated, not only with vaccines, but also with a positive mindset and the right attitude to get the body healthy and in functional condition. There are many different measures that ... Home windows can also be tinted, with them providing several benefits that you may not be aware of. Here are three reasons to have your home windows tinted. Window Tints Will Control UV Light Exposure If your windows use regular glass that does not have a tint, it will allow ultraviolet light into your home. While sunlight can be good to get your vitamin D, too much UV light could cause health issues like skin cancer. To help catch this serial killer, a young FBI trainee is sent to confide in Hannibal Lecter, another psychopath who eats and kills his victims. The reviews that I have chosen to discuss commend the film, and talk about different aspects. Vincent Canby praises the performance of the actors, and the dialogue. Desmond Ryan praises the film for having a unique storyline, setting it apart from other films of the same genre. Both reviews present strong positive arguments towards the film. This is the reasoning to why I completely agree with Mr. Ryan. This genre of film has become very repetitive, the director took a different approach, created a plot that has never been seen before and leaves the audience at the edge of their seats the entire film. • 12. Good Journalism and Citizenship The world is a hectic mess today. News is happening all around us, and the only source that acts as a filter between the chaos and ourselves is the media. The media, journalists especially, must hold upon themselves a great responsibility when they are acting as this filtering apparatus between the ordered and unordered. But is that the only thing journalism does: make sense of the news? No, it does much more than that. Good journalism is working, with help from the citizenry, to create an enlightened Republic filled with citizens who will be well informed of the events which intersect their lives. There are a number of measures, though, that journalists must take before they can go from simply making sense of the news to creating an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And this is not only a discussion between citizens and citizens or leaders and leaders but rather between citizens and leaders; the press simply acts as a medium. Justice Douglas wrote in New York Times Co. v. United States that [o]pen debate and discussion of public issues are vital to our national health. On public questions there should be uninhibited, robust, and wide open debate. Although debate and discussion are vital to the Republic, maybe society should rethink about how uninhibited, robust, and wide open those debates really are. Society today tends to think of debates as two opposing ideas battling each other out in order to ascertain which idea comes out in first, and, as Kovach and Rosenstiel point out, a debate focused only on the extremes of argument does not serve the public but instead leaves most citizens out (167). The problem with this is that there are not only one or two given positions on any given issue, but there are many positions. In the debates that go on today, those positions which are often left out are often those which are also most agreeable with each other. So instead of letting debates focus only on the extremes, [t]he public forum must include the broad areas of agreement, where most of the public resides and where the solutions to society s problems are found (Kovach and Rosenstiel 167). • 13. Oxalate Lab Essay Dr. Hjorth Gustin Chemistry 201 Lab November 8th, 2010 Synthesis and Analysis of Iron(III) Oxalate Complex Discussion This experiment initially involved the synthesis of an iron (III) oxalate complex with the general formula Kw[Fex(C2O4)y] zH2O. The variables x, y, and z were determined through the duration of the entire experiment. Part 1 involves the synthesis of an iron (III) oxalate complex. The iron is first presented in its Fe2+ form, so it must first be oxidized to Fe3+ before the oxalate ion will readily bind to it. Hydrogen peroxide is the oxidant of choice: 2Fe2+ (aq) + H2O2 (l) + 2H+ (aq) 2Fe3+ (aq) + 2H2O (l), in acidic solution. The oxalate ion is then free to coordinate to the Fe3+ ion, forming a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Part 2 of this experiment invoked the use of redox titrating to determine the oxalate content (C2O42 ) of the salt. An aqueous solution of the iron oxalate salt is prepared for titration, and the oxalate content is found through analysis by measuring the volume of titrant. Part 3 of the experiment utilized Spectrophotometry to determine the iron content in the iron (III) oxalate complex. The results were combined with findings from Part 1 and Part 2 to determine the empirical formula and percentage yield of the compound synthesized in Part 1. Spectrophotometry is a routine laboratory test that has the added advantage of being able to analyze multiple samples in a short amount of time. Victorian Women in the Work Force Essay Victorian Women in the Work Force The Victorian period is often defined by its antique images of flowers, doilies, rosy cheek children and intricate fashion. However, these trite images shadow the true realities of middle class families struggling to succeed in the emerging business world. Traditionally, the men spent long days in the city working out business affairs, while the women stayed home with the children preparing meals and planning for social gatherings. Work was often not an option for women because they were seen as incapable of any duty outside of the home. As one author says, That the queen of England became the central embodiment of middle class familial values held great significance for the representation and role of bourgeois women (Langland 64). Queen Victoria s concern for the middle class served as a basis by which English women were able to go outside of their domestic realm and break some of the existing stereotypes. She was supposed to love children and also to avoid hurtful blunt statements and make her husband the center of her life and be the Light of the Home while her husband tangled with the world at large (Palmer). The promotion of gender equality is co existent with social protection and the first step to combating gender inequality, while simultaneously combating problems related to poverty and education. • 35. Essay On Sociology Is The Father Of Sociology Sociology 1. What is the science of sociology? Sociology is defined as a systematic arrangement of knowledge that indicates operations in consideration to the general laws. In a general approach, sociology is defined briefly as the study of how human interact in their daily social life. The word sociology is developed from two main other words socio and logos . The meaning of socio is society and the meaning of logos is science. That means sociology is the science used to study human social life. In addition to this sociology is not concerned with only the social interaction but also the daily social changes. Different approaches have been developed for the study and examination of sociology but never has there been an acceptable concept to this study. • 37. The Importance Of Doing Business In Canada Doing business in Canada is often synonymous with North American business practices. In most cases there is little difference in managerial style, business language and approach to agreements whether you re standing in Calgary, Alberta or Chicago, Illinois. There is an exception to this general principle however. Doing business in indigenous communities and with indigenous peoples in Canada is almost unrecognizable from models used across North America. Indigenous culture is different, the values are different, and the measure of time is different. This paper will briefly highlight some of the intricacies of managing business relationships in Canada s indigenous communities. Canada is a large and diverse nation state. Within Canada there are 614 distinct indigenous First Nations recognized by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are no cold, unemotional deals in these communities; as such, trust and communication become key elements to managing business relationships in Indian Country . (Edworthy, 2014) Many of the trust issues have nothing to do with the partners at the table, but are latent cultural issues as a result of intrusive legislation and regulation. (Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, 2014) Communication with indigenous peoples can present unique challenges as well. As English and business English are not the first languages used by indigenous peoples, long pauses and quiet tones are often used when Western culture would dictate otherwise. Prolonged eye contact, a sign of genuineness in western culture, can be enough to cause mistrust and discomfort among indigenous peoples so strongly that it could jeopardize nearly completed business arrangements and agreements. (Joseph, 2015) It is critical that research into the individual communities and their customs be conducted by the proponents prior to making contact. This extra time can avoid costly and time consuming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Why Is Evolution Wrong Internet Expose The Theory of Evolution has been a very controversial topic in the past and today s world. There are many conflicting views and perception that rises when it comes to religious beliefs, values, and ethics. Many people question the theory of evolution however, these claims and arguments have many fallacies that does not justify or prove that evolution is wrong. In my internet expose I have chosen three topics to research and have provided a full analysis of articles from websites that falsely argues against three topics about evolution. The three topics I have chosen to write about is: the evolutionary process of natural selection/how evolution works; the relationship between humans and modern non human primates (monkeys/apes); ... For example, in the article from Ivy Rose we have many similar anatomical physical features such as opposable thumbs, hands and feet that can grasp, and 32 teeth . (Ivy Rose) Two articles that help explain human evolution and our relation with modern primates such as monkeys and apes are: Human vs. Primates from Ivyroses.com and Ape to Human Evolution Eugene M. McCarthy, PHD. These two articles explain there is a significant similarity of how fossils record, physical features, and even some behavioral traits between humans and other modern primates that helps prove that we are related. Another argument that the author makes is that there is a missing link When it comes to the speciation of human beings. When in fact there are actually fossil records of these so called missing links, that link to human evolution for example according to National Geographic s and live science .com Lucy the Australopithecus and Homo Habilis, and etc. are all follsil evidence that humans have been evolving for many years forming new traits that make up today s modern ... • 40. The Timken Company to Acquire Torrington Essay The Timken Company to Acquire Torrington This memo will examine Timken Company s decision to acquire Torrington by examining the stand alone value of Torrington, the synergies of this acquisition and the effect on Timken s investment grading. Acquiring Torrington seems to fit well with Timken s long term growing strategy. Torrington and Timken share 80% of their customers but only overlap 5% in their product offerings. Not only would this allow customers to make Timken a one stop shop for many of their needs but also according to a survey done by the University of Michigan, companies that were integrated were more profitable than those who focused on only one good. Acquiring Torrington would help in their efforts of becoming more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of the cash flows are discounted back to the year of 2002 in the calculation of NPV value. With the annual cost savings of $80 from 2003 to 2007 and the integration cost of total $130, Timken s new NPV is calculated to be $970.42. There is the possibility that Timken can lose its BBB investment grade rating. This is due to Timken taking on the $800 million in debt it needs to purchase Torrington. The change in the company s debt composition will change ratios such as debt to capital which is used to determine the investment grade rating. Compared to other industrial firms, Timken shows relatively high sales numbers ($279.4 million) as well EBITDA figures ($275.7 million). According to table 3 (p. 4), only three ratios will change as taking on the $800 million in debt. The first one is EBIT Interest Coverage Ratio, which drops from 2.63 to 0.90 and investment rating scale falls from BBB to B. The second ratio is EBITDA Interest Coverage Ratio, which drops from 4.3 to 3.14 and investment rating scale falls from BBB to B. The third one is Total Debt/Capital Ratio, which increases from 43 percent to 67 percent and drives the rating from BB to B. In conclusion, the $800 million debt has a negative impact on Timken, since it lowers company s investment rating scale. If Timken decides to go forward with the acquisition, Timken should structure the deal with both cash and stock for stock offering. Ingersoll Rand is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
