Michelangelo was an Italian Renaissance artist who lived from 1475 to 1564. He was a painter, sculptor, architect and poet who is considered one of the greatest artists of the Italian Renaissance. Some of his most famous works include the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, the statue of David, and the Pieta. Michelangelo was a very religious man and many of his works depicted religious scenes from the Bible. He believed that sculptures were already inside the stone and his job was to free them.
