The names we are given are essential in forming our identity. It is the way we are addressed by
everyone starting from birth. It is the beginning of how we define ourselves in our own terms `as a
result of growing up and experiencing life. In Indian culture, from The Namesake, the grandmother
chooses a good name for the child before they are born. Gogol was supposed to be a pet name only
used by family and close friends. For Gogol, his name highlights his differences to everyone else, but
more importantly, himself. He endures a consistent struggle with his two cultures throughout the
novel. He, as a young adult, is searching for acceptance of both his traditional Indian culture and

On September 5, 2015, Christ United Methodist Church hosted an open gamblers anonymous meeting

Facing It is a poem by Yusef Komunyakaa. It is a poem in which the writer uses imagery and
figurative language to express his feelings and his thoughts. He expresses his strong emotions towards
the Vietnam War because he was a veteran. During the poem, he reflects on his thoughts from the war
while he was at the Vietnam Veteran Memorial.
The speaker is visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. In the beginning of the poem, he is trying to
hold back his tears. He is trying to remain strong and brave. When he is at the Vietnam Veteran s
Memorial, he comes across the name Andrew Johnson. As the readers of this poem, I have no clue
who Andrew Johnson is. Andrew Johnson could be someone that was close to him during the war. At
the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, you can see your reflection through the walls. The walls at the
memorial are how the narrator speaks about his reflections and what he can see through the walls. The
very last few lines of the poem are when he sees a reflection of a white vet in the Vietnam Veterans
Memorial.
In lines 1 2, my black face fades, hiding inside the black granite he is speaking about how his face is
literally black from the granite wall. He is also speaking how the kind of person we show to the world.
We do not always show who we truly are, people only show the side of their personality that they want
people to see. From these two lines, the narrator brings up the main theme of this poem. In lines 3 5,
the writer is expressing his feelings or he is at least trying not to, he tries to hold back his emotions
from the war. He wants to remain strong because he says, I m stone and flesh He is not literally saying
that he is stone but he is a person that has been through a lot and even after everything he is still alive.
In lines 6 9, imagery is the only thing being used because he is only speaking about his reflection and
how it relates to the granite stone. In lines 10 13, he says, I am inside the Vietnam Veterans Memorial .
From this line, part of the narrator is still stuck at the war. He brings up light and how he wants it to
make a difference. Light is symbolized for how we represent ourselves to others and the kind of

Splash. One second I could feel my body touching the surface of the water and the next second I was
completely immersed in it. I went so deep I could feel the water pressure. Was I going to die? I moved
my hands and feet vigorously as if a shark was chasing me. I wanted to get out, breathe a gulp of air
and feel the air. I wanted to cry. With my eyes still closed and my heart beating rapidly all I did was

In the reviewed literature, a case is made for participatory action research and explanation given on its
composition and on how it enhances the quality of research (Greenwood et al, 1993). They define
participatory action research as a type of research that brings together a member of the organization
(insider) and an expert research to carry out the research process.
Gibbons et al (1994) talks about the knowledge production mode as well as a number of author later
(Huff and Huff, 2001; Huff, 2000; Starky and Madan, 2001; Tranfield and Starky, 1998). The
definition is articulated into traditional or mode 1 (pursuit of scientific truths), and interactive or mode
2 (production of knowledge by application) (Huff, 2000). Mode 3 and mode 1.5 is also referenced by

The NBA Should Enforce a Hard Salary Cap
How many of you sports fans out there are sick of paying twenty five dollars for a lousy seat at an
NBA game? How many of you are sick of seeing the same teams in the finals every year? I m sure
there are thousands of you out there that feel this way, as do I. The way we can fix these problems is to
demand that the NBA enforce a hard salary cap. A hard salary cap would lower ticket prices, allow for
more teams to be more competitive and eliminate the possibility of any future lockouts. If the three
things listed above aren t met, it s hard to say if the NBA will survive at all. I want to see the NBA
