Why I Attend A University
There are many reasons why someone might attend a university. Some seek a degree for better
employment, some to fulfill a family obligation, some for self knowledge, while others seek
economic stability. I personally seek my degree to better equip myself for the ministry that God
has called me to. I am currently a certified A/G minister that often travels overseas as a long term
missionary, and for this reason Global University is the perfect school for me. Global not only
provides the biblically based courses that I need, but also the flexibility that allows to take courses
whether I am stateside or overseas. This flexibility enables me to remain in full time ministry.

God has given me a great passion to help these young adults grow into becoming healthy mature
ministers. Besides training young adults, I feel a calling to come alongside current pastors,
helping them further their education if that is their desire. Another passion that God has placed
on my heart is to help victims of human trafficking. I pray that one day I will be able to work in
an organization like Project Rescue or A21. I would love to help victims build a biblical
foundation so they can start their emotional healing. I strongly believe that God equips the
called but I also believe that if God opens the door for someone to further prepare him or her self
it is our responsibility to do so. Levels of Reading Upon reading How to read a book, I was
pleasantly surprised at the degree of information that this particular reading had. Adler describes
four levels of reading that will assist in comprehension of the reading material for upcoming
classes; which will in turn assist in the overall comprehension of God s Word. All four levels go
hand in hand. In order to master level two, you must first master level one. The skills that you
master in level one and two, will then assist you on level three. Mastering the first three levels, will
then allow you to master level four. The four levels of reading are elementary, inspectional,
analytical, and syntopical. The

What Is Sears Thesis For The Battle Of Antietam
The Confederate invasion of the North in September of 1862 was an attempt by Robert E. Lee to
swing the war in favor of the South. The main reason for the Confederate invasion was that the
British were on the verge of recognizing the Confederacy if they could show it could hold its own,
and Lee was anxious to provide a cornerstone for the Confederacy to build upon. The Battle of
Antietamwas the bloodiest day in American history and was a major blow to the Army of Northern
Virginiaand the morale of the south. This is the tableau against which our story unfolds.
Stephen W. (Ward) Sears was born July 27th, 1932 in Ohio. He is a pre eminent American
historian specializing in all facets of the Civil War. He graduated from Oberlin College in... Show

Sears uses language that most all of us can understand, and clearly it is a very well researched
work. He supports his claims in the book with a copious amount of facts and yet still keeps the
course of the book moving forward. He draws on a variety of sources including diaries and letters
of the participants to produce, arguably, his definitive work. Sears thesis is actually two fold; one
that McClellan missed countless opportunities to defeat Lee and two that McClellan was an
incompetent commander who missed several instances to take initiative and win the battle
decisively. The young Napoleon, as McClellan was known, often waited an inordinate amount of
time before making a movement with his troops. For me, reading the details (with heavy emphasis
to the Union story) was captivating. No recon, no communication, egotistical leadership, timidity,
and procrastination all combined and helped the Union snatch defeat (or, at the very least, a draw)
from the jaws of victory. This battle, like others before and after it, could have really shortened the
Civil War.
On the other hand, Sears holds Lee in high esteem. Though taking unnecessary risks at times, he
manages to skillfully avoid being crushed at the hands of a numerically superior opponent.
According to Sears, Antietam proved a tactical victory for the Army of Northern Virginia, It had
beaten back a foe much superior in manpower and ordinance

Compare And Contrast Classical Athens And Han China
Athens vs. Han China While both classical Athens and China were about six thousand miles apart,
each civilization produced influences that still affect our world today as we speak. Though China
and Athens shared many similarities, they also had many differences including art, society, and
government. Art in the Athenian culture showed that males were the superior being and that
sports were very common and enjoyed by most. Men often competed in discus throwing
competitions in the Olympics, but in order to do so, they needed to be physically fit. In Athenian
paintings, men were depicted having muscles and being very lean ( Document 11 ). In China
however, numerous scenes of nature were drawn using bright colors, expressing that it was of
great importance. Nature was superior to man because many artists often made people and animals
a lot smaller than the trees and plants. The images showed how it was calm and peaceful, that s
why Lao tzu wrote that you find serenity when you return to a common source ( Document 12 )....

Confucius was a popular philosopher in China and he believed that straightness was to be found
in such a behavior because individuals like a father and a son would cover up for one another (
Document 10 ). Pericles also believed that no man should be kept out of office because of his
social standing. This helped Athens become a modeled society so everyone was equal before the
law. Pericles said that they were a model to other neighboring states ( Document 4 ). In Han China,
there were social classes, the emperors being at the top and the mean people being at the bottom.
Mean people made up about seven percent of the population and many of them were street artists,
unskilled workers, and household slaves ( Document

POG Premium Oil and Gas
Case Study Premium Oil and Gas
Premium Oil and Gas (POG) is the Dutch holding company of one of the world s largest
petroleum and gas groups. The organisation employs over 80,000 staff in 80 countries and is best
known to the general public through its 25,000 service stations.
POG s main activities are the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas, together with
the marketing, supply and transportation of these products. The company earns revenues of around
ВЈ100 billion per annum based on its daily production of two million barrels of crude oil and eight
billion cubic feet of natural gas, plus daily sales of six million barrels of refined products.

Other areas for active recruitment include drilling, commercial, health, safety and environment,
public relations and human resources.
Interviewed recently for the company magazine, Dr Woodhouse explained how one option for POG
Azerbaijan would have been to rely on experienced expatriates to do the whole job, but that was not
POG s way. Her focus, she said, was on the recruitment of nationals, who could be developed so that
they can ultimately manage the operation. Right now, 40 Azeri employees were undergoing
technical training at POG s development centre in the Netherlands. For one thing, she continued, it
costs considerably more to bring expatriates to Azerbaijan and it was important to employ those
who understand the local environment, who know how to get things done. This fitted in with the
company s belief in recruiting the best possible staff to plan, build and operate the platforms and
pipelines. A constant concern, however, was that Azeri standards were currently well below
international standards on health and safety, in spite of considerable company investment in health
and safety training. This is unacceptable position for POG, operating as it does in a highly
dangerous industry that is at the centre of the media s spotlight.
Secondly, recruitment and selection is a key function to employ the best of Azerbaijan s well

Wanted: spiritual disciplines for ordinary people Rashod C. Wells Liberty University Abstract
John Ortberg s manuscript, The Life You ve Always Wanted: a spiritual disciples for ordinary
people, published in 2002 at Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ortberg tells us the pathway in rejoining
our connection to God, which allows us to have what our heart s desire, the life we have always

Which is to love and will be rewarded for in Heaven. Confession as a spiritual discipline requires
steps: training, self examination, to become aware. To be able to ask why and what happened,
having a new feeling, and making a new promise. In preparation, we ask for the Spirit s help
through prayer and consecration. We examine ourselves to find the sins in our lives. We ask for
a new insight of our sins and alternative for worldly habits. We then need to ask why we sinned
and what the consequences for our action of sin were. We then start to have a new feeling about
the sin through a transformation conviction. We adopt a new assurance about our sin. And you
also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having
believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit (Eph 1; 13, NIV bible) We
need to receive guidance from the Holy Spirit as a spiritual discipline. We need to not only speak to
God but also to listen (Ortberg, 2002). God can speak directly to us. God speaks not only to, but
through us . (Ortberg 2002, p. 153) We also need to practice secrecy. We need to stop living for
others approval. We need to reflect on Scripture to become closer to God. The Bible can transform
our lives if we let it. We need to develop a rule of life. This is the way we live source of our morals.

attending UW Waukesha, I live in Milwaukee so it was a long drive. I would often listen to the
radio while I was driving, there are two radio stations that play Spanish music one has been
around for a while now and the other one just started about 2 years ago. These radio stations
have programs that are local meaning the that the DJ/broadcaster is from Milwaukee, but they
also have programs that are very popular in other states which most of the time are from
California. I was listening to the radio personalities, which includes two women one from El

that consider violence against women. We often don t realize that a simple post about someone can

A Bend in the River Book Review
The world is what it is; men who are nothing, who allow themselves to become nothing, have no
place in it . That s how V.S. Naipaul starts his novel A Bend in the River . The book describes the
post independence struggles of an unnamed Africa governed by a dictator, The Big Man . A Bend
in the River is a story of historical upheaval and social breakdown. The collision of cultures in
India, Arab, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean inform the extraordinary view of Naipaul
s creative imagination. He was born in Trinidad in 1932 from a Hindu family that had come
generations back as indentured servants from the subcontinent of India to a tropical island in the
Caribbean, where Hindus were a minority. Perhaps the shape of his vision owes something to his
own placement in the world. Salim, our first person narrator whose roots come from mixed
Muslim Arab African but more closely related to Hindus of northwestern India. He and his family
had been living at the Eastern coast of Africa that was filled with people who were not truly
African. They were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

this alters his views about native Africans. The part from the jail clearly suggests the kind of
wisdom Salim gains through his experience, regardless of feeling different from the other prisoners,
he reaches a certain understanding of their situation within the context of them and not his own
assumptions. A Bend in the River brought to light a whole world, a culture, a historical experience,
and it did so in a way that felt true and insightful at that time. It gave us an understanding of the
experience of these people that we couldn t get from any history of Africa even

Interview Skills Analysis
Interview Skills, Resumes, and Cover Letters
We discussed resume and cover letter tips and the importance of proofreading and modifying
resumes and cover letters before submitting them to an employer. We also discussed how to
prepare for an interview. Interviewees need to think of answers to commonly asked questions,
work on maintaining confidence and clarity when speaking, and prepare questions for the
interviewer. I learned that my resume is my first opportunity to introduce myself to a potential
employer. Before an employer ever meets me in person for an interview, the employer or a human
resource personnel person dissects everything that I state on my resume to form an opinion about
who I am or what I can offer. Therefore, it is critical that I list my most qualifying and unique ...

friends but they must coexist so, if the issue is able to be resolved and it becomes unbearable work
on transitioning out of the department or organization.
Younger versus Older Workers
In class, we discussed the rift that exists between younger and older workers in the workforce.
Employers are hiring more young workers that possess fresh ideas and technical skills that older
workers lack. Older workers often are content and are reluctant to learn new practices or skills.
I learned that employers also employ younger workers because employers can pay younger
workers less than older workers. Although there is rift between two generations of workers in the
workforce both generations of workers have knowledge beneficial to the other generation. Young
workers are needed to share their technical knowledge while older workers are needed to share
their tried and true knowledge of the industry.

You And Maurice Quotes
You and Maurice really show the power of love and friendship. It connected two people who are
on the other ends of the spectrum. They live in totally different worlds; people tend to only think
about the environment they live in and the companions they are with. Rarely does someone
notice the existence of people out of their own bubble. This book was a well made book which
shows the lives of two totally different people coming together. An Invisible Thread by you Schroff

emotions. This novel started off with two people with complicated pasts and fragile dreams that

When Maurice mentions the money he didn t pay back he felt sorry, but you said that the time

This reminded me of the lost son parable from the Bible. A son takes half of the fathers wealth

who deeply cared for him and that he has to go back. When he returns he expects to be rejected

Reflection On Writing
At this point in the semester I do not really feel any different than in the beginning. For the most
part my writing has stayed the same as when I first started. The biggest change I have experienced
in my writing is my ability to organize more effectively and to manage my time better. Although my
writing has not changed increasingly, some parts of the writing process has been improved such as
organization and time management.
One thing I have learned during the course of this semester thus far are the terms logos, pathos, and
ethos. I would not say that knowing the terms have significantly affected how I read now, as I
feel like the skills needed to use logos, pathos, and ethos I had already been using. However, now
I know terms and because of such I am able to organize the thoughts more sufficiently. My writing
problems have consistently been a struggle with organization. Having specific terms for skill I
already used has made organization much easier as I can categorize my critical thinking.
I have written reading responses and comparison essays before so I cannot say that the writing in
this class has impacted my writing significantly. Overall my writing has not changed much,
however my organization skill have improved. I have always preferred organization and lists and
categorizing, so learning what logos, pathos, and ethos are has given me a knew way to categorize
information and has improved my organization and time management. While I feel confident that I

Memory Does Not Work Like A Video Camera
Memory does not work like a video camera, smoothly recording every detail. Instead, memory is
more of a constructive process. We remember the details that we find most important and relevant.
Due to the reconstructive nature of memory, the assimilation of old and new information has the
ability to cause vulnerable memories to become distorted. This is also known as the misinformation
effect (Loftus, 1997). It is not uncommon for individuals to fill in memorygaps with what they
assume they must have experienced. We not only distort memories for events that we have
observed, but, we may also have false memories for events that never occurred at all. False
memories are often created by combing actual memories with suggestions received from... Show

In the first follow up interview, roughly eighteen percent remembered the false event and in the
second follow up, twenty five percent remembered the false event (Hyman, Husband, Billing 1995).
As this study indicates, memories are more susceptible to modification when the passage of time
allows the original memory to fade. Being lost, however, is not the same as being abused. Another
crucial component involved in the formation of false memories is the imagination inflation. Loftus
(1997) found that the more often an individual imagined an unperformed action, the more likely
they were to later on remember having performed it.
While these studies do not fully exemplify the harmful reality of false memories, they take a step
towards understanding how these false memories might occur in real world settings. As Loftus
(1997) discusses, it is only natural to wonder whether or not this research is applicable to real
world situations such as being interrogated by law officers or in psychotherapy. What researchers
have learned, and can apply to this practical problem is that there are social demands on individuals
to remember and come up with detailed memories. Not only that, but memory construction through
suggestion and imagining events has been shown to be explicitly encouraged when people are
having trouble remembering events (Loftus, 1997). One of the reasons it is important for us to
learn about child development

The claim as to whether the eye witness issue on Loch Ness Monster is reasonable and possibly

not in any way disprove the Loch News creatures and their existence. With no doubt therefore, the

The British and American decision to invade Sicily in 1943 was an uneasy compromise made by
these two Allies having greatly different strategies concerning the prosecution of the War against
Nazi Germany. The strategic goals settled upon were freedom of shipping in the Mediterranean, the
opening of a new campaign to help relieve the Russian front, and pressuring Italy to exit the Axis.
The operations to support these strategic objectives were endangered by Generals Eisenhower and
Alexander s pre occupation with operations in North Africa and the British distrust of American

Who was Samuel Colt? He was a legendary inventor from Hartford, Connecticut that helped
revolutionize the way the world produced firearms. Colt was born to a family of farmers, his

man. Meanwhile Colt s mother Sarah Colt passed when he was just six years old. His father
remarried two years later and overall there would be six siblings in the Colt family. Despite being

period totaled 378,000 revolvers and 114,000 muskets (Grant, 1982). The role that his company
played in producing firearms for the Union Army placed Colt as a historic figure in American
history. Today Samuel Colt is looked at as the man who revolutionized the firearm industry and the
man who created the first mass producing firearms company in the world. He was recently honored
in 2006 as he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
With manufacturing moving overseas in the past several decades and America currently having a

the most important manufacturing cities in America. For instance, it can argue the fact that Colt
came up with the idea of mass production and started running his business out of Hartford, that it
was the city of Hartford who was the first to place itself as an industrial city in America. As the
United States also faces challenges in regaining some of its success in the past back in
manufacturing, it must end the habit of companies shipping all of the manufacturing jobs overseas

Analysis Of The Second Sex By De Beauvoir
The Second Sex is a piece of literature that criticizes society, especially men for oppressing women.
De Beauvoir believes that men limit women to their privileges by characterizing them as objects.
Furthermore, Beauvoir sees that in society while men are considered dominant, and important,
women, on the other hand, are considered, irrelevant, and insignificant. The main reason why
womanare viewed this way is due to the roles they have in society. Their whole life they must
appease to their husband s commands and perform household responsibilities. The Second Sex
highlights the vast imbalanced roles calling out what is wrong in society. De Beauvoir questions
why an entire half of the human population is being discriminated against.... Show more content on

I have already pointed out that what Freud calls the Electra complex is not, as he supposes, a
sexual desire (De Beauvoir, 287). De Beauvoir believes the daughter to husband relationship is
not a sexual desire instead that if the father shows the daughter love she will feel like she belongs
in society, she will become more confident as it will give her a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction.
Another text that criticizes society because of the oppression of women is Sula by Toni
Morrison. However, Morrison takes a different approach as she does not explicitly say her
purpose of her writing nor point out any flaws in society. Instead, she results to mimicry to prove
her point. Morrison in her writing uses two characters: Nel and Sula. Morrison states, Because each
had discovered years before that they were neither white nor male, and that all freedom and
triumph was forbidden to them, they had to set about creating something else (Morrison, 51).
Sula and Nel at an early age of 12 realized that because they are neither white nor male, for most
of their lives they will experience discrimination and be denied freedom in their community. Here
Morrison is trying to show just how easy it was to identify even to young kids how African
American women were oppressed in communities. Sula was determined to not conform to her
community s expectations. However, Nel decides to still follow the path of the

Number Of Basketball Players In Research
Division of Basketball Players
Children develop bad habits at a young age and continue these bad habits until they are corrected.
Sometimes these things aren t corrected until its almost too late. Habits can be picked up from
parents, grandparents, coaches, and peers. I know that the longer I am around someone the more I
act like that person. In any sport you will have many coaches and you will learn something you
didn t know with every coach you have. But some things aren t developed from others, some players
are born with these characters and help them become the type of player they are.
1.The Dramatic Player: The dramatic player overreacts about everything to draw attention to their
self so they can be the center of attention. For example, on my basketball team Susie is constantly
getting hurt. One day at practice she gently fell to the ground and instantly started acting like
she had fallen from a 10 story building. As a teammate of Susie I have learned that it is easier to
give her the attention as soon as she starts acting out. Another type of player is one that makes
everything said to them a big deal. Some players on the team cannot take criticism, or being told
what to do. Susie is this type of player also, and will turn a simple please look for me on the block

The Excuse maker: The excuse maker constantly has a rhyme or reason to why they did not do

her man scoring on someone else when clearly they scored because she wasn t playing any
defense. The most common excuse used in basketball is that wasn t my man when in reality nine
times out of ten it is the excuse makers man. These types of players would rather the team suffer
than put forth the effort to do what is asked of them. Like people say one bad apple will ruin the

will have to start with our product, and then develop modifications, to avoid patent infringement.
Both companies current products use a different kind of technology. They are grinders and do not
have any quick detection apparatus . While Dremel Tools has been in the pet trimming market for
some time, they only modified the grinder used for woodworking and other craft projects. This
would be a departure from their core competency. This is the only venture by Oster Company.

There is no threat to us from buyers. Pets must have their nails trimmed on a regular basis, or

Catholic Schools
1920 1965 Within the Culture
Looking into the past often helps to see the obstacles and challenges of the future. Catholic schools
from the beginning in America up to 1965 were rapidly developing and growing in numbers. Some
of the marks made on today s Catholic schools can be traced back to the struggles and achievements
of the American Catholic schools in the years of 1918 to 1950. When thinking about looking within
the culture, you must look at the make up of Catholic schools during those decades. There was
fluxuation within culture that made up the Catholic schools and that led to Catholics were coming
into their own (Dan lecture). The early decades of Catholic schools were about needing Catholic
schools and the next decades were about justifying their continuation. Children needed emersions in
faith so that they would grow up and continue that Catholic Church s mission of faith. All of the
evolving and growing really took place within the culture at that time, influencing the make up of
the students, staff, and parishes that supported them. There were historical influences such as

Catholic Church had to rethink how they managed the schooling of children and how they cold

and led to the leaders of Catholic schools to new focus, which was for Diocese to possibly add a
superintendent to their chain of command. Just as they do currently, the superintendent would help
the consistency of schooling across the parishes. This change was needed since many pastors were
running their schools without having the level of educational experience to know what they were

Selecting A Health Care Provider Summary
Chapter One
Selecting a Health Care Provider
At no time should a patient feel uneasy with the treatment they receive, or the overall environment
of the facility they are visiting. All staff should address concerns with a professional approach.
According to Issidoros Sarinopoulos, Ph.D., a professor of radiology at Michigan State University,
Patients should pay attention to how their doctor makes them feel and recognize empathy as a
desirable characteristic in a physician.
A Good Healthcare Provider Does the Following:
Treats all questions and concerns with respect
Responds in a timely manner
Reserves judgement
Asks permission before any testing is performed

At no time should you feel unable to maintain your own well being due to judgement from medical
providers. Today s medical school graduates have had more training on sexual health than their

approach to patient sexual health.
Chapter 2
Preventative Sexual Health Services
Preventative services include vaccines, screenings for transmitted diseases and infections and
counseling to assist in making health minded decisions. Regardless of one s ability to pay for
preventative services, they have a right to these services through community organizations.
However, not all communities offer comprehensive preventative sexual health services at no cost or
low cost. Research what is available in your area, starting with your local Planned Parenthood
office.
Males should be aware that Planned Parenthood offers reproductive services, general health care,
sexual health services and cancer screenings for men. The company is widely known for their
female sexual health services, but Planned Parenthood also assists males in the following gender
specific areas:
Erectile dysfunction exam, education, treatment and referrals

the capital of Argentina (Gascoigne). The coat of arms for Argentina as stated by Haley Cohen of

The Study Of Practice And Practice Essay
The Study of Practice
Introduction As the term refers to the untrained individual, practice may seem like a minuscule
activity that is drawn out to emulate a pattern that is to be learned. As practice refers to motor
learning it is a very integral part of learning a motor pattern. The same can be said for other
activities such as riding a bike, dribbling a ball, or climbing stairs. According to the Oxford
English dictionary the term practice is defined as, repeated exercise in our performance of an
activity or skill so as to acquire or maintain proficiency in it (Practice, 2016). We practice a certain
activity to become better at performing said activity. For example, a small child learning how to
ride a bike, may use training wheels help the child maintain balance without the threat of falling
off of the bike. The training wheels help the child acquire the feeling of what it is like to ride a
bike. The use of the training wheels allows the child to practice or get comfortable with the
action of riding a bike before actually doing so. Practice encompasses many other factors that
contribute to how well an individual attains and learns a skill. Practicing a skill infrequently or
frequently affects how that skill is performed. The distribution or spread of practice may affect
learning. The instability or variability of a skill performance can have an effect on the end result
learning. Mental practice, part practice, and whole practice are types of practice that also has

The Character Of Billy s The Landlady
The Landlady
Even though the gruesome, ghastly and demonic story known as The Landlady ends in a
disturbing way, it portrays many characteristics about the protagonist, Billy. There are numerous
ways to characterize Billy, a 17 year old kid on his first business trip in the strange city of Bath,
England. Billy begins his journey to a hotel known as the Bell and Dragon but stumbles to a halt
when he sees a seemingly cozy bed and breakfast that catches his eye. For a few pages everything
seems great; unfortunately for Billy, he has some flaws which ultimately lead to his shocking death
at the hands of a demented landlady. These are curiosity, a tendency to miss important clues, and
gullibility.
The gullible nature of Billy Weaver is quite interesting as he does not show any sign of stupidity,
but his gullible state got the best of him. There are numerous reasons to portray the nature of Billy
as abnormal. The first sign shown by Billy is when he figures out the cost of staying at the Bed and
Breakfast for a night. In the passage, it states Five and sixpence a night, including breakfast (Dahl
2). He subsequently says it was fantastically cheap (Dahl 2). but he never thought of the
consequences he would face or think why it was so cheap, as many places would charge twice as
much. This shows his gullible state of mind at the extremes. Billy Weaver finally asks about how
this cheap of a place did not get lots of customers and she answered: I m inclined to be

Soviet Union As Powerful Middle Class Nations Today Essay
Russia and Poland were once under the single party control, communism. Communism is when the
government owns nearly all aspects of society. The government controlled everything from means
of production, property, to even media. The fall of communism throughout the world began in the
late 1980s. Since the liberalization of the two countries, Russia and Polandhave come to long ways.
After independence, both countries faced many struggles but are now considered to be powerful
middle class nations today. Post communist is where former communist states undergo a transition
both socially and economically. Before 1989, there has never been a shift to a post communist
country to democracy. With a quickly modernizing world, Communismwas bound to fail(286). The
death of Stalin in 1953 left the Soviet Unionwithout a strong communist leader. The Soviet Union
then turned its attention to Western powers and the arms race. The Cold War left Americans
thinking that communism would never end and many countries could begin to fall to it. The 1950s
and 1960s had Americans feeling uneasy. Both the arms race and Cuban Missile Crisis led to
detente, which is when both the United States and the Soviet Union wanted peace, but that did not
last long. The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979, and this began the fall of the Soviet
Union. The election of Ronald Reagan also helps embitter the relationship between the United
States and the Soviet Union. He views the Soviet Union as a the evil

Trade Between China And Latin America
In 1999, trade between China and Latin America totaled approximately $8 billion; by 2009, that
number had had grown to $130 billion. Earlier this year, a study by the United Nations Economic
Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) concluded that by the year 2016, trade
between China and Latin Americawill surpass that between the Eurozone and Latin America,
making China Latin America s second largest trading partner. Most studies of this partnership
have focused on: a growing security dilemma, a monumental language barrier, sea disputes, a red
scare (the fear that China will spread communism), and Africa China relations (where China is
often referred to as a new imperialist). This paper will explore the motivations and strategies that
are shaping China s engagements in Latin America. I will focus, first, on China s resource
extraction strategies in Latin America and, second, the implications of these strategies for the two
regions. The paper will argue that China s goal in Latin America is first and foremost, to secure
sufficient resources to meet the needs of its population and to secure its continuing economic
growth, and look at considerable strategies China has to achieve this. It is also clear that China is
using its economic, political, and military power to influence other developing countries, especially
on sensitive issues like Taiwanese independence. Lastly, both Latin America and China seek to
benefit from their relationship, and it is likely

Gun Control The gun control debate in the US is often contentious and politically divisive. And
with upcoming elections always looming in the near future, we will continue hearing a great deal

issues and the reasoning behind both sides of the controversy. To help get a clearer perspective of

Native American Cultures And Development Of Native Americans
Native American populations in the 1490 s cary from 50 to 100 million people. Spread throughout
the America s, the natives adapted and shaped their ways of life according to their environment and
their surroundings. For example, the southwest settlements such as the Pueblos depended on
irrigation systems living in large numbers, where the settlements in the Great Plainsregion, lived a
nomadic lifestyle being dependent on buffalo as their life source. In essence, the environment
where the Native population settled led to diversity among the tribes because each tribe had to
adapt to their unique environment in order to survive. The southwest settements lived a stationary
life, where those in the Great Plains migrated as they followed their cattle. Additionally, not only
did their environment vary, their language also differed. American Indian languages consisted of
more then 20 language families including 400 distinct languages. Due to this, the ability to
comminicate lacked leading to varied beliefs, customs, cultures and development of ways of life.
Although both Spain and England conquered and settled in areas located in America, their colonies
differed. To illustrate, the English settled in areas without large native empires unlike the Spanish.
Because of this difference, the English were unable to to use natives as a controllable workforce as
the Spanish did. The Spanish used an economic system called encomienda system that relied on the
use of slavery. Additionally,

My Love In My Life
Dear family, mother, father, dearest grandmother, and beloved cousins, if my misfortune is your
happiness, then I ll gladly suffer. If my wails at night are music to your ears, then I ll write you a
symphony. If my blood, sweat, and tears keep you shining, then I ll bleed you an ocean. To my
family of whom I would do anything for, if the Hannah Pham in front of you doesn t meet your

Almost every Asian child is taught the most fundamental principle of our culture, to keep your
family as your number one priority. I am no exception, I was taught to keep family in mind when
making actions or making decisions. My life choices would have to either benefit my family, or
they would be predetermined by my family themselves. I learned to prioritize my love for my

rich, I will become a doctor, I will be pretty and feminine, and I will dedicate my life to helping

are commonly referred to as being in the military. Many papers have been written about being in
the military, but I think the meaning is unique and personal to each member of the armed forces.
To me, after 17 years of being on active duty wearing the Air Force uniform, I am in the military
just as a non military person is in society. The military lifestyle is a microcosm of the larger
American way of life. In our ranks we have upstanding citizens, caring parents, honest and hard
working men and women as our airmen, soldiers, sailors and marines. We have married, single,
homosexual and heterosexual people. We have pedophiles, wife beaters, thieves and embezzlers.

How Has Physical Theatre Changed Over Time Essay
How has physical theatre developed over time?
Physical theatre is a form of performance where movement and physicality of the body has the
main part within a performance. There are several quite distinct traditions of performance which all
describe themselves using the term physical theatre , which has led to a lot of confusion as to what
the definition of physical theatre actually is. The term physical theatre has been applied to
performances consisting mainly of mime, contemporary dance, theatrical clowning and other
physical comedy (such as slapstick), puppetry and mask work and theatrical acrobatics and lifts.
One of the early practitioners of physical theatre was Artaud. His ideas included total theatre,
wherein actors appeal to all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The development of English pantomime was strongly influenced by commedia dell arte. This was
a comedy of professional artists travelling from province to province in Italy and then France, who
improvised and told comic stories that held lessons for the crowd, changing the main character
depending on where they were performing. Pantomime mainly incorperated song, dance,
buffoonery, slapstick, cross dressing, in jokes, topical references, audience participation, and mild
sexual innuendo. The general movement within Pantomime creates physical theatre as the storyline
is presented to the audience mainly through lifts, dance and slapstick, although performers also use
their voice throughout.
The Theatre of the Absurd is the name for particular plays of absurdist fiction written by a
number of primarily European playwrights in the late 1950s, as well as one for the style of
theatre which has evolved from their work. Their work expressed what happens when human
existence has no meaning or purpose and therefore all communication breaks down, alerting their
audiences to pursue the opposite. The Absurd in these plays takes the form of man s reaction to a
world apparently without meaning, and/or man as a puppet controlled or menaced by invisible
outside forces. Theatre of the Absurd consisted of horrific or tragic images; characters caught in

Harold Crick s Views In Stranger Than Fiction
An important theme that is shown throughout the film, Stranger than Fiction, directed by Marc
Forster, is the power of growth and the ideological behavior of changing one s views. People
cannot determine or dictate their fate, however one can decipher how he or she responds to a given
situation. Only once Harold finally accepts the fact his future is not controlled by him or his watch,
only by fate, does he realize true happiness and freedom are in the palms of his hands. This is a
story about a man named Harold Crick and his wristwatch. Harold Crick was a man of infinite
numbers, endless calculations, and remarkably few words. And his wristwatch said even less
(Stranger than Fiction). Throughout the film Harold s life is controlled by his wrist watch,
ultimately always relying on the function of his watch to guide him in life with every decision he
makes. This is symbolic because it represents the obsessive characteristics Harold possesses. For
example, Harold s wrist watch is designed with several alarms throughout his day dictating each
and every one of his actions, eventually causing him to fall into a routine which he isn t necessarily

Professor John Davis
July 29, 2013
Fire Protection Challenges Fire protection challenges for a city within a city had been the major

expansion dealt with greater challenge with improving on fire protection and evacuation plans in
case of any major fire disaster. Several fire protection issues arisen during the constructions where

Lastly, the law required installation of fire sprinklers systems on public occupancy and building
within the echelon of 150 or more with the exception of religious places that had existing mounted
alarm structure. The biggest contribution of this fire disaster was the ignition of the pyrotechnics
in the backstage and the uneducated patrons on the band s act or presentation. Some of the
decisions making with problems were minor for example of assistance of untrained staff, delay of
egress process, non existing fire sprinkler systems in the building, inadequate exit fire doors and
over the maximum limit capacity inside the building. If all these major and minor corrective
actions were implemented before the show, then this tragedy is nowhere to be at reported.
However, the next article on the World Trade Center (WTC) terrorist bomb attack in 1993, the fire
prevention system suppressed the damage caused by explosion but the evacuation path was not
followed correctly due to panic and unfamiliar of the evacuation route. NFPA studied the incident
and developed training to all major cities in the preparation management of facility and
improvement of proper emergency evacuation planning. The plan was among the most effective

The Relationship Between Sleep And Social Rhythms Essay
Hypothesis, Methods, Results, and Validity In 2009, researchers, Colleen E. Carney Ph.D., Jack D.
Edinger, Björn Meyer, Linda Lindman, and Tai Istre, published their study called, Daily Activities
and Sleep Quality in College Students . The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship
between sleep and social rhythms. The researchers acknowledged that, It has long been recognized
that consistent and qualitatively satisfying sleep is largely dependent on a robust and well
entrained endogenous circadian rhythm(Carney, Edinger, Meyer, Lindman, and Istre, 2009). The
researchers further explained that in their study they were going to attempt to establish a
relationship between one s daily activities and social engagements to his or her sleep quality.
The researchers hypothesized that, self reported good sleepers would report more daily
activities, show earlier daily scheduling of their social rhythms, have social rhythms
characterized by greater regularity, and be involved in more activities with active social
engagement than would poor sleepers (Carney et al., 2009). To test their hypothesis the
researchers gather 243 willing participants between the ages of 18 and 39 years. The sample was
mostly female and Caucasian, but other ethnicities and races were present to ensure a
representative sample. To carry out the study the Social Rhythm Metric (SRM) was used to assess
social rhythms. The SRM consists of 17 activities which are considered to be common

Pride And Prejudice By Jane Austin Essay
In reference to the novel Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austin, Austin targets several themes in
correlation to the early 19th century in England. Austin s central theme however, is love and
marriage. Trough love and marriage Austin is able to criticize social class, wealth, gender
inequality, and prejudice. In such matter, Austin believes happiness cannot be obtained by
arrangement, force, nor any type of exterior influences. So in respect to love, which leads to
marriage, Austen s thoughts of mutual attraction are the most important thing of a marriage. One
who betrays his or her heart will never own true love. True love is much more cherishing than
money and social position. This is what Austen puts a great deal of emphasis on. Intertwining
themes, Austen s perception of happiness is traced off gender injustices women suffered in 19th
century English society; Austen jabs at the English society and norms of that time period, by
exploiting a female character; Elizabeth Bennet. Regaining focus on Austen s thought about
happiness, with respect to marriage or love; the authors position on such topic is amplified via the
characters pairings and doublings and as they shift through the course of the novel. As we analyze
the main characters in the novel, both Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy are the main couplet in
which experience significant development as the novel gallops along towards the ending. Being the
second oldest of the Bennet sisters, Elizabeth Bennet, is a

Memory Is The Diary That We All Carry About With Us
Oscar Wilde said that Memory... is the diary that we all carry about with us. Every page of our
diary filled with a series of memories, but we wouldn t make a perfectly diary. Sometimes we lost
pictures in the diary, sometimes we miss spell words; just like memories will become vague and
pass out of mind. The process of memoryincludes Encoding, Storage, and Retrieval; those three
parts correlate and restrict each other. Memory storage is a step encompasses how information is
retained over time (Laura, 2013). As two of the systems involved in memory storage short term
memory (STM) and the long term memory (LTM) and play an important role when people
recalling specific memory.
The paper will discuss both STM and LTM based on the textbook, then compare and contrast the
information on the textbook, to discuss memory psychologically. There are several resources
include this paper, although each resource explains and discusses different significant title, but
relevant to the information process in memory. The resources focus on the reason of memory
failure in order to explore the method to improve STM and long term memory. Those resources are
discovered in psychology database and intimately relate to the topic.
When you want to retain a phone number without paper and pen, people most likely will either
grouping number into chunk or rehearse the information constantly or visualize in your mind. This
is relying on what is known as STM also called scratch pad memory , that

Kaze No Denwa Short Story
Kaze No Denwa
It is April 11, 2011, and one month has passed since the great Japanese tsunami splintered the
island. In a small coastal village, a man parks his car at a distance and walks towards the only
object in a large field: Kaze No Denwa, the Phone of the Wind. Tears begin to well in his eyes as
he feels the gentle breeze wash over him. His shoes crunch the loose gravel underfoot. On this day,
there is no one else around.
In the middle of the field stands a white phone booth. It glows boldly in the bright afternoon
sunlight. The man walks along a winding path through low cut, manicured underbrush. He
reaches the phone booth, slides open the door, and enters. He takes his time, looks around, and
finally picks up the receiver from atop an old fashioned black rotary phone. He places a finger
into a small circle at his desired number, gently spins clockwise, releases, and repeats nine times.
The phone in Kaze No Denwa is connected to nothing; there is no electricity here, no dial tone
even, but the man is not surprised.
If you can hear me, he says, please listen carefully.
He stops, looks around the tiny phone box, and sobs, wiping the tears from his eyes with a sleeve.
Please, let me hear your voice say Daddy again. He covers his eyes with the sleeve and gently
whispers, I m so sorry I couldn t save you. I will forever be sorry and shamed. His head falls, his
eyes close.
His name is Satsuko. He has travelled far to visit Kaze No Denwa. The great tsunami has brought
havoc and, with it, many lives have gone to that place where spirits reside. Sadness has punctuated
the land, and Satsuko is in its midst. His face and demeanour are altered. Kaze No Denwa, the
Phone of the Wind is becoming well known. Its back story and sentiment have resonated with the
people.
He read about it in a magazine published the year prior; the story of an old man s burning wish,
long before the tsunami, to communicate with his deceased relative. A phone booth was set in
the middle of a field tilled by hand and hoe for generations, a place for the old man to air his
grief, where his breath could catch the wind and set out across the field, down the cliff face, and
across the vast blue Pacific.
Satsuko moves slowly.

Reflection On Pubic Speaking
From the beginning of the past eight weeks to the end, my pubic speaking capabilities have
change dramatically. In the beginning of the semester on the first day I was incredibly nervous,
so when I walked up to the front of the class with my desk mate, I was shaking, sweating, and
could feel my heartbeat. Extremely shy, scared of my classmates and professor judging me or
thinking less of me because I could barely say one word without getting a lump in my throat. I
could barely lift my eyes from my paper and gaze on the daunting eyes that were staring. Those
couple minutes of our first speech talking about our desk mate felt like hours, I could not catch
my breath and was ready to run out of the class. After the first day I was so mentally exhausted
from being anxious and was immensely stressed that I would not do well in the class. The stress
and worry was doubled when I heard about the background of our professor, since I did not want
to do poorly in a professor s class that I highly respected. Thankfully, I stuck in the course and did
not run away, and with every class public speaking became easier and less taxing, especially in
small groups. The practices and folders of information, aided the process and confidence when
speaking. Getting to know my classmates made the course extremely fun and less stressful because
I knew they were only here to help and not hurt. The student critiques gave me confidence and made
my speeches higher quality and the only time the professor

The Attention Span Of Goldfish Have Longer Attention Spans...
Goldfish have longer attention spans than Americans. Yes, you read that correctly. As you may
already know, the attention span is the amount of time an individual is able to concentrate on one
particular action. However, you most likely did not know that the average attention span of a
human being has dropped from 12 seconds in 2000 to 8 seconds in 2013. (Brenner) The average
attention spanof goldfish is 9 seconds and due to the effects of various sources of media, this is
now one second greater than the average human. Over the years of exposure to social media and
live updates, American culture has progressively shortened the attention spans of our citizens, and
this is prevalent in the work of famous musicians and their albumsales.
Although there are many different forms of media that have been impacted in this attention span
shift, I would like to emphasize the shift in music sales. The steady decrease in attention span
correlates directly with album sales over the last 35 years. I have selected 3 albums, released in
1980, 1990, and 2000, to show the steady decline in album sales. I chose ACDC s Back in Black
for its iconic history, Madonna s The Immaculate Collection for its unique impact, and Eminem s
The Marshal Mathers LP for its distinct recognition. The sales of these albums show the decline in
album sales over time. Each of these massively popular artists had less and less success selling
albums, compared to individual songs in the music industry

A Comparison Of The Holidays In Thanksgiving, Christmas...
While holidays have often been criticized as ploys to push consumerism on to the public, they have
also been widely recognized as a reason for families to come together and interact with one another.
These annual interactions often repeated certain behaviors, thus they serve as guidelines for how
the familyshould operate during future holidays. To gain a better understanding on the connection
between family identity and family rituals, I decided to interview my father on his Thanksgiving,
Christmasand New Year s Eve traditions. During my interview with my father I observed that the
holiday rituals present within his family have contributed largely to the way he perceives his
family identity. Through this paper I will be using content from the interview regarding traditions
for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year s Eve, as well as other academic material to analyze
how holiday traditions contribute to my father s perceptionof his family identity. To begin, when I
asked my father to describe the essentials to his ideal Thanksgiving, the first thing he mentioned
was the preparation of traditional ethnic foods. He went on to detail foods such as candied yams,
macaroni and cheese and spiraled honey ham. By my father listing these ethnic foods as essential to
an ideal Thanksgiving, it shows us that his ethnicity contributes to the way he believes the family
should function during the holiday. Another detail that he mentioned as important to his ideal
Thanksgiving was the

  • 2. Why I Attend A University There are many reasons why someone might attend a university. Some seek a degree for better employment, some to fulfill a family obligation, some for self knowledge, while others seek economic stability. I personally seek my degree to better equip myself for the ministry that God has called me to. I am currently a certified A/G minister that often travels overseas as a long term missionary, and for this reason Global University is the perfect school for me. Global not only provides the biblically based courses that I need, but also the flexibility that allows to take courses whether I am stateside or overseas. This flexibility enables me to remain in full time ministry. Obtaining my bachelors degree in Biblical Studies will contribute... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... God has given me a great passion to help these young adults grow into becoming healthy mature ministers. Besides training young adults, I feel a calling to come alongside current pastors, helping them further their education if that is their desire. Another passion that God has placed on my heart is to help victims of human trafficking. I pray that one day I will be able to work in an organization like Project Rescue or A21. I would love to help victims build a biblical foundation so they can start their emotional healing. I strongly believe that God equips the called but I also believe that if God opens the door for someone to further prepare him or her self it is our responsibility to do so. Levels of Reading Upon reading How to read a book, I was pleasantly surprised at the degree of information that this particular reading had. Adler describes four levels of reading that will assist in comprehension of the reading material for upcoming classes; which will in turn assist in the overall comprehension of God s Word. All four levels go hand in hand. In order to master level two, you must first master level one. The skills that you master in level one and two, will then assist you on level three. Mastering the first three levels, will then allow you to master level four. The four levels of reading are elementary, inspectional, analytical, and syntopical. The ... • 3. What Is Sears Thesis For The Battle Of Antietam The Confederate invasion of the North in September of 1862 was an attempt by Robert E. Lee to swing the war in favor of the South. The main reason for the Confederate invasion was that the British were on the verge of recognizing the Confederacy if they could show it could hold its own, and Lee was anxious to provide a cornerstone for the Confederacy to build upon. The Battle of Antietamwas the bloodiest day in American history and was a major blow to the Army of Northern Virginiaand the morale of the south. This is the tableau against which our story unfolds. Stephen W. (Ward) Sears was born July 27th, 1932 in Ohio. He is a pre eminent American historian specializing in all facets of the Civil War. He graduated from Oberlin College in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sears uses language that most all of us can understand, and clearly it is a very well researched work. He supports his claims in the book with a copious amount of facts and yet still keeps the course of the book moving forward. He draws on a variety of sources including diaries and letters of the participants to produce, arguably, his definitive work. Sears thesis is actually two fold; one that McClellan missed countless opportunities to defeat Lee and two that McClellan was an incompetent commander who missed several instances to take initiative and win the battle decisively. The young Napoleon, as McClellan was known, often waited an inordinate amount of time before making a movement with his troops. For me, reading the details (with heavy emphasis to the Union story) was captivating. No recon, no communication, egotistical leadership, timidity, and procrastination all combined and helped the Union snatch defeat (or, at the very least, a draw) from the jaws of victory. This battle, like others before and after it, could have really shortened the Civil War. On the other hand, Sears holds Lee in high esteem. Though taking unnecessary risks at times, he manages to skillfully avoid being crushed at the hands of a numerically superior opponent. According to Sears, Antietam proved a tactical victory for the Army of Northern Virginia, It had beaten back a foe much superior in manpower and ordinance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Compare And Contrast Classical Athens And Han China Athens vs. Han China While both classical Athens and China were about six thousand miles apart, each civilization produced influences that still affect our world today as we speak. Though China and Athens shared many similarities, they also had many differences including art, society, and government. Art in the Athenian culture showed that males were the superior being and that sports were very common and enjoyed by most. Men often competed in discus throwing competitions in the Olympics, but in order to do so, they needed to be physically fit. In Athenian paintings, men were depicted having muscles and being very lean ( Document 11 ). In China however, numerous scenes of nature were drawn using bright colors, expressing that it was of great importance. Nature was superior to man because many artists often made people and animals a lot smaller than the trees and plants. The images showed how it was calm and peaceful, that s why Lao tzu wrote that you find serenity when you return to a common source ( Document 12 ).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Confucius was a popular philosopher in China and he believed that straightness was to be found in such a behavior because individuals like a father and a son would cover up for one another ( Document 10 ). Pericles also believed that no man should be kept out of office because of his social standing. This helped Athens become a modeled society so everyone was equal before the law. Pericles said that they were a model to other neighboring states ( Document 4 ). In Han China, there were social classes, the emperors being at the top and the mean people being at the bottom. Mean people made up about seven percent of the population and many of them were street artists, unskilled workers, and household slaves ( Document ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The organisation employs over 80,000 staff in 80 countries and is best known to the general public through its 25,000 service stations. POG s main activities are the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas, together with the marketing, supply and transportation of these products. The company earns revenues of around ВЈ100 billion per annum based on its daily production of two million barrels of crude oil and eight billion cubic feet of natural gas, plus daily sales of six million barrels of refined products. Other areas for active recruitment include drilling, commercial, health, safety and environment, public relations and human resources. Interviewed recently for the company magazine, Dr Woodhouse explained how one option for POG Azerbaijan would have been to rely on experienced expatriates to do the whole job, but that was not POG s way. Her focus, she said, was on the recruitment of nationals, who could be developed so that they can ultimately manage the operation. Right now, 40 Azeri employees were undergoing technical training at POG s development centre in the Netherlands. For one thing, she continued, it costs considerably more to bring expatriates to Azerbaijan and it was important to employ those who understand the local environment, who know how to get things done. This fitted in with the company s belief in recruiting the best possible staff to plan, build and operate the platforms and pipelines. A constant concern, however, was that Azeri standards were currently well below international standards on health and safety, in spite of considerable company investment in health and safety training. This is unacceptable position for POG, operating as it does in a highly dangerous industry that is at the centre of the media s spotlight. Secondly, recruitment and selection is a key function to employ the best of Azerbaijan s well educated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Confession as a spiritual discipline requires steps: training, self examination, to become aware. To be able to ask why and what happened, having a new feeling, and making a new promise. In preparation, we ask for the Spirit s help through prayer and consecration. We examine ourselves to find the sins in our lives. We ask for a new insight of our sins and alternative for worldly habits. We then need to ask why we sinned and what the consequences for our action of sin were. We then start to have a new feeling about the sin through a transformation conviction. We adopt a new assurance about our sin. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit (Eph 1; 13, NIV bible) We need to receive guidance from the Holy Spirit as a spiritual discipline. We need to not only speak to God but also to listen (Ortberg, 2002). God can speak directly to us. God speaks not only to, but through us . (Ortberg 2002, p. 153) We also need to practice secrecy. We need to stop living for others approval. We need to reflect on Scripture to become closer to God. The Bible can transform our lives if we let it. We need to develop a rule of life. What Is The Theme Of A Bend In The River Rivera Jose Gabriel Hankins English 116 05/20/2015 A Bend in the River Book Review The world is what it is; men who are nothing, who allow themselves to become nothing, have no place in it . That s how V.S. Naipaul starts his novel A Bend in the River . The book describes the post independence struggles of an unnamed Africa governed by a dictator, The Big Man . A Bend in the River is a story of historical upheaval and social breakdown. The collision of cultures in India, Arab, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean inform the extraordinary view of Naipaul s creative imagination. He was born in Trinidad in 1932 from a Hindu family that had come generations back as indentured servants from the subcontinent of India to a tropical island in the Caribbean, where Hindus were a minority. Perhaps the shape of his vision owes something to his own placement in the world. We also discussed how to prepare for an interview. Interviewees need to think of answers to commonly asked questions, work on maintaining confidence and clarity when speaking, and prepare questions for the interviewer. I learned that my resume is my first opportunity to introduce myself to a potential employer. Before an employer ever meets me in person for an interview, the employer or a human resource personnel person dissects everything that I state on my resume to form an opinion about who I am or what I can offer. Employers are hiring more young workers that possess fresh ideas and technical skills that older workers lack. Older workers often are content and are reluctant to learn new practices or skills. I learned that employers also employ younger workers because employers can pay younger workers less than older workers. Although there is rift between two generations of workers in the workforce both generations of workers have knowledge beneficial to the other generation. • 11. Reflection On Writing At this point in the semester I do not really feel any different than in the beginning. For the most part my writing has stayed the same as when I first started. The biggest change I have experienced in my writing is my ability to organize more effectively and to manage my time better. Although my writing has not changed increasingly, some parts of the writing process has been improved such as organization and time management. One thing I have learned during the course of this semester thus far are the terms logos, pathos, and ethos. I would not say that knowing the terms have significantly affected how I read now, as I feel like the skills needed to use logos, pathos, and ethos I had already been using. However, now I know terms and because of such I am able to organize the thoughts more sufficiently. My writing problems have consistently been a struggle with organization. Having specific terms for skill I already used has made organization much easier as I can categorize my critical thinking. I have written reading responses and comparison essays before so I cannot say that the writing in this class has impacted my writing significantly. Overall my writing has not changed much, however my organization skill have improved. I have always preferred organization and lists and categorizing, so learning what logos, pathos, and ethos are has given me a knew way to categorize information and has improved my organization and time management. • 12. Memory Does Not Work Like A Video Camera Memory does not work like a video camera, smoothly recording every detail. Instead, memory is more of a constructive process. We remember the details that we find most important and relevant. Due to the reconstructive nature of memory, the assimilation of old and new information has the ability to cause vulnerable memories to become distorted. This is also known as the misinformation effect (Loftus, 1997). It is not uncommon for individuals to fill in memorygaps with what they assume they must have experienced. We not only distort memories for events that we have observed, but, we may also have false memories for events that never occurred at all. False memories are often created by combing actual memories with suggestions received from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first follow up interview, roughly eighteen percent remembered the false event and in the second follow up, twenty five percent remembered the false event (Hyman, Husband, Billing 1995). As this study indicates, memories are more susceptible to modification when the passage of time allows the original memory to fade. Being lost, however, is not the same as being abused. Another crucial component involved in the formation of false memories is the imagination inflation. Loftus (1997) found that the more often an individual imagined an unperformed action, the more likely they were to later on remember having performed it. While these studies do not fully exemplify the harmful reality of false memories, they take a step towards understanding how these false memories might occur in real world settings. As Loftus (1997) discusses, it is only natural to wonder whether or not this research is applicable to real world situations such as being interrogated by law officers or in psychotherapy. What researchers have learned, and can apply to this practical problem is that there are social demands on individuals to remember and come up with detailed memories. Not only that, but memory construction through suggestion and imagining events has been shown to be explicitly encouraged when people are having trouble remembering events (Loftus, 1997). With manufacturing moving overseas in the past several decades and America currently having a trade deficit it would be difficult for Hartford to redevelop itself as one of the most important manufacturing cities in America. On the contrary, Hartford can use its past to place itself as one of the most important manufacturing cities in America. For instance, it can argue the fact that Colt came up with the idea of mass production and started running his business out of Hartford, that it was the city of Hartford who was the first to place itself as an industrial city in America. As the United States also faces challenges in regaining some of its success in the past back in manufacturing, it must end the habit of companies shipping all of the manufacturing jobs overseas and restore the ... De Beauvoir believes that men limit women to their privileges by characterizing them as objects. Furthermore, Beauvoir sees that in society while men are considered dominant, and important, women, on the other hand, are considered, irrelevant, and insignificant. The main reason why womanare viewed this way is due to the roles they have in society. Their whole life they must appease to their husband s commands and perform household responsibilities. The Second Sex highlights the vast imbalanced roles calling out what is wrong in society. De Beauvoir questions why an entire half of the human population is being discriminated against.... De Beauvoir believes the daughter to husband relationship is not a sexual desire instead that if the father shows the daughter love she will feel like she belongs in society, she will become more confident as it will give her a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. Another text that criticizes society because of the oppression of women is Sula by Toni Morrison. However, Morrison takes a different approach as she does not explicitly say her purpose of her writing nor point out any flaws in society. Instead, she results to mimicry to prove her point. Morrison in her writing uses two characters: Nel and Sula. Morrison states, Because each had discovered years before that they were neither white nor male, and that all freedom and triumph was forbidden to them, they had to set about creating something else (Morrison, 51). Sula and Nel at an early age of 12 realized that because they are neither white nor male, for most of their lives they will experience discrimination and be denied freedom in their community. Here Morrison is trying to show just how easy it was to identify even to young kids how African American women were oppressed in communities. Sula was determined to not conform to her community s expectations. However, Nel decides to still follow the path of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When thinking about looking within the culture, you must look at the make up of Catholic schools during those decades. There was fluxuation within culture that made up the Catholic schools and that led to Catholics were coming into their own (Dan lecture). • 28. The Study Of Practice And Practice Essay The Study of Practice Introduction As the term refers to the untrained individual, practice may seem like a minuscule activity that is drawn out to emulate a pattern that is to be learned. As practice refers to motor learning it is a very integral part of learning a motor pattern. The same can be said for other activities such as riding a bike, dribbling a ball, or climbing stairs. According to the Oxford English dictionary the term practice is defined as, repeated exercise in our performance of an activity or skill so as to acquire or maintain proficiency in it (Practice, 2016). We practice a certain activity to become better at performing said activity. For example, a small child learning how to ride a bike, may use training wheels help the child maintain balance without the threat of falling off of the bike. The training wheels help the child acquire the feeling of what it is like to ride a bike. The use of the training wheels allows the child to practice or get comfortable with the action of riding a bike before actually doing so. Practice encompasses many other factors that contribute to how well an individual attains and learns a skill. Practicing a skill infrequently or frequently affects how that skill is performed. The distribution or spread of practice may affect learning. The instability or variability of a skill performance can have an effect on the end result learning. The Character Of Billy s The Landlady The Landlady Even though the gruesome, ghastly and demonic story known as The Landlady ends in a disturbing way, it portrays many characteristics about the protagonist, Billy. There are numerous ways to characterize Billy, a 17 year old kid on his first business trip in the strange city of Bath, England. Billy begins his journey to a hotel known as the Bell and Dragon but stumbles to a halt when he sees a seemingly cozy bed and breakfast that catches his eye. For a few pages everything seems great; unfortunately for Billy, he has some flaws which ultimately lead to his shocking death at the hands of a demented landlady. These are curiosity, a tendency to miss important clues, and gullibility. The gullible nature of Billy Weaver is quite interesting as he does not show any sign of stupidity, but his gullible state got the best of him. There are numerous reasons to portray the nature of Billy as abnormal. The first sign shown by Billy is when he figures out the cost of staying at the Bed and Breakfast for a night. In the passage, it states Five and sixpence a night, including breakfast (Dahl 2). He subsequently says it was fantastically cheap (Dahl 2). but he never thought of the consequences he would face or think why it was so cheap, as many places would charge twice as much. • 31. Soviet Union As Powerful Middle Class Nations Today Essay Russia and Poland were once under the single party control, communism. Communism is when the government owns nearly all aspects of society. The government controlled everything from means of production, property, to even media. The fall of communism throughout the world began in the late 1980s. Since the liberalization of the two countries, Russia and Polandhave come to long ways. After independence, both countries faced many struggles but are now considered to be powerful middle class nations today. Post communist is where former communist states undergo a transition both socially and economically. Before 1989, there has never been a shift to a post communist country to democracy. With a quickly modernizing world, Communismwas bound to fail(286). The death of Stalin in 1953 left the Soviet Unionwithout a strong communist leader. The Soviet Union then turned its attention to Western powers and the arms race. The Cold War left Americans thinking that communism would never end and many countries could begin to fall to it. The 1950s and 1960s had Americans feeling uneasy. Both the arms race and Cuban Missile Crisis led to detente, which is when both the United States and the Soviet Union wanted peace, but that did not last long. The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979, and this began the fall of the Soviet Union. Most studies of this partnership have focused on: a growing security dilemma, a monumental language barrier, sea disputes, a red scare (the fear that China will spread communism), and Africa China relations (where China is often referred to as a new imperialist). This paper will explore the motivations and strategies that are shaping China s engagements in Latin America. I will focus, first, on China s resource extraction strategies in Latin America and, second, the implications of these strategies for the two regions. The paper will argue that China s goal in Latin America is first and foremost, to secure sufficient resources to meet the needs of its population and to secure its continuing economic growth, and look at considerable strategies China has to achieve this. It is also clear that China is using its economic, political, and military power to influence other developing countries, especially on sensitive issues like Taiwanese independence. In a small coastal village, a man parks his car at a distance and walks towards the only object in a large field: Kaze No Denwa, the Phone of the Wind. Tears begin to well in his eyes as he feels the gentle breeze wash over him. His shoes crunch the loose gravel underfoot. On this day, there is no one else around. In the middle of the field stands a white phone booth. It glows boldly in the bright afternoon sunlight. The man walks along a winding path through low cut, manicured underbrush. He reaches the phone booth, slides open the door, and enters. He takes his time, looks around, and finally picks up the receiver from atop an old fashioned black rotary phone. He places a finger into a small circle at his desired number, gently spins clockwise, releases, and repeats nine times. The phone in Kaze No Denwa is connected to nothing; there is no electricity here, no dial tone even, but the man is not surprised. If you can hear me, he says, please listen carefully. He stops, looks around the tiny phone box, and sobs, wiping the tears from his eyes with a sleeve. Please, let me hear your voice say Daddy again. He covers his eyes with the sleeve and gently whispers, I m so sorry I couldn t save you. I will forever be sorry and shamed. His head falls, his eyes close. His name is Satsuko. Those couple minutes of our first speech talking about our desk mate felt like hours, I could not catch my breath and was ready to run out of the class. After the first day I was so mentally exhausted from being anxious and was immensely stressed that I would not do well in the class. The stress and worry was doubled when I heard about the background of our professor, since I did not want to do poorly in a professor s class that I highly respected. Thankfully, I stuck in the course and did not run away, and with every class public speaking became easier and less taxing, especially in small groups. The practices and folders of information, aided the process and confidence when speaking. Getting to know my classmates made the course extremely fun and less stressful because I knew they were only here to help and not hurt. The student critiques gave me confidence and made my speeches higher quality and the only time the professor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Attention Span Of Goldfish Have Longer Attention Spans... Goldfish have longer attention spans than Americans. Yes, you read that correctly. As you may already know, the attention span is the amount of time an individual is able to concentrate on one particular action. However, you most likely did not know that the average attention span of a human being has dropped from 12 seconds in 2000 to 8 seconds in 2013. (Brenner) The average attention spanof goldfish is 9 seconds and due to the effects of various sources of media, this is now one second greater than the average human. Over the years of exposure to social media and live updates, American culture has progressively shortened the attention spans of our citizens, and this is prevalent in the work of famous musicians and their albumsales. Although there are many different forms of media that have been impacted in this attention span shift, I would like to emphasize the shift in music sales. The steady decrease in attention span correlates directly with album sales over the last 35 years. I have selected 3 albums, released in 1980, 1990, and 2000, to show the steady decline in album sales. I chose ACDC s Back in Black for its iconic history, Madonna s The Immaculate Collection for its unique impact, and Eminem s The Marshal Mathers LP for its distinct recognition. The sales of these albums show the decline in album sales over time. Each of these massively popular artists had less and less success selling albums, compared to individual songs in the music industry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. A Comparison Of The Holidays In Thanksgiving, Christmas... While holidays have often been criticized as ploys to push consumerism on to the public, they have also been widely recognized as a reason for families to come together and interact with one another. These annual interactions often repeated certain behaviors, thus they serve as guidelines for how the familyshould operate during future holidays. To gain a better understanding on the connection between family identity and family rituals, I decided to interview my father on his Thanksgiving, Christmasand New Year s Eve traditions. During my interview with my father I observed that the holiday rituals present within his family have contributed largely to the way he perceives his family identity. Through this paper I will be using content from the interview regarding traditions for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year s Eve, as well as other academic material to analyze how holiday traditions contribute to my father s perceptionof his family identity. To begin, when I asked my father to describe the essentials to his ideal Thanksgiving, the first thing he mentioned was the preparation of traditional ethnic foods. He went on to detail foods such as candied yams, macaroni and cheese and spiraled honey ham. By my father listing these ethnic foods as essential to an ideal Thanksgiving, it shows us that his ethnicity contributes to the way he believes the family should function during the holiday. Another detail that he mentioned as important to his ideal Thanksgiving was the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. CLAS Standards In Nursing Hello everyone, my name is Sarah Hartford. I am a registered nurse currently working on a Progressive Care Unit. I started my nursing career after completing my ASN. I began working on an orthopedic wing of a local hospital. Shortly after, I moved to a progressive care unit where I feel my heart has stayed. I completed my Bachelor s degree in nursing and began exploring new options. I opened my eyes to home health shortly after my son was born and following brain surgery for a Chiari Malformation. I began to miss the more hands on care that was available in the hospital setting, so I decided that when a local hospital was opening that I wanted to help establish this facility from the ground up.
