Huck Finn Racism
Is Huckleberry Finn racist? Huckleberry Finn or Huck Finn for short has had plenty of controversy
since the book was first published. Many people believe that because of the words Twain used in the
book many people blatantly believe that the book Huck Finn is racist. Since the book was First
Published people have been trying to ban and not allow people to read Huck Finn. Many people
believe that Huck Finn should not be taught in school simply because of the tone and words Twain
decided to use while writing the book while others, on the contrary, believe that Huck Finn had a
powerful message that spoke against racism and slavery. Falling from grace ( Twain 35) This quote
can mean many different things, but how most people see it, it can show how much this book affected
racism and hate in the U.S.A it really portrays what life was like during the time period that Huck Finn
was set in. Why should Huck Finn be taught in school and why is there so much controversy
surrounding a novel. The video we watched in class gave us the story of a mother and a daughter who
decided that because their views and closed mindedness was more important than allowing students to
learn what life was like and why it is so important to never repeat those mistakes again, all because
they are much too feeble minded to realize the impact of Huck Finn. Huck Finn as a work of literature
is very important in that Twain

Group Of Emotion In Monet
According to Claude Monet, a famous impressionist artist, It s on the strength of observation and
reflection that one finds a way. So we must dig and delve unceasingly. (as cited by Kendall, 2004). As
artwork is chiefly depicted in many different ways, such as in natural, spiritual, objective, or
subjective description, Monet believes that a plein air painting style can convey such profound
feelings to audiences based on thorough observation and comprehension (Perry, 1927). Thus, there are
four groups of emotion in Monet s paintings, which are serenity, loneliness, confusion, and joy. The
first group of emotion in Monet s paintings is serenity. Serenity is a state in which people are liberated
from anxiety or stress of daily hassle. Monet, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joy is an emotion that reflects the fulfilment of human s desires involving the relationship. Monet, in
general, depicts the happiness in his paintings based on a group of people and a nature as a subject
matter (Stuart, 1916). A group of people represents love and caring between friends with an
impressively intimate conversation. They share a moment of laughter while reminiscing the hilarious
action of their friends. Furthermore, the beautiful nature around them, such as the flower bushes and
the small trees, is depicted in a vividly bright tone of color as responded to the joyful moment of
people. While, the their clothes are depicted in a more natural shade of color, such as blue and green.
These colors imply that their feelings toward one another are perceptibly real and sincere as a natural
color (Fitzgerald, 1905). The emotion of his paintings is mostly described in an amiable atmosphere of
a group of people that shares a similar taste in particular subject (Fitzgerald, 1905). Monet paints them
with the reminiscent emotion of his colleagues helping and supporting him through difficult times
(Borgmeyer, 1912). A wonderful example of joyful moments in Monet s paintings is Le Déjeuner sur l
herbe or known as The luncheon on the Grass (Isaacson, 1972). The subject matter is a group of
people having lunch together amid the beautiful nature. The colors in this painting include a natural
shade of yellow, green, and blue. The painting represents the amiably delightful atmosphere of friends
sharing food and beverage (Isaacson, 1972). In summary, joy is the final group of

This health insurance coverage program was designed to lower the costs of health care while
increasing the productivity and results seen by patients. Stipulations set forth with the Affordable Care
Act ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to receive health coverage. At the same time,
hospitals and doctors offices are expected to streamline their costs while continuing to provide above
average services. Doing these two things in combination allows public and private health insurance
systems to offer coverage to Americans at a reduced rate.
To facilitate the entire program, citizens are forced to either have health coverage of some sort, or
suffer a financial penalty. There are some exceptions

Attenuation effect of caffein and/or nifedipine against selenite induced cataractogenesis
Abstract
Objectives: The current study was performed to investigate the anti cataractogenic effect of single and
combined treatment with caffeine and nifedipine in sodium selenite induced cataract.
Methods: Seventy five healthy albino Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups; the first group received
intraperitoneal injection of saline and served as control, 2nd group received a single subcutaneous
injection of 30 nmol/g body weights of sodium selenite to induce cataract. 3rd and 4th groups received
0.1 mg/kg of nifedipine and 5.15 µmoles of caffeine respectively, starting two days prior to the
administration of selenite and continuing such treatment till the end of experiment. Last group got the
combined treatments of nifedipine and caffeine in the same regimen. Animals were decapitated after 5,
15 and 25 days of the experiment.
Results: The results indicated a very highly significant decrease (P˂0.001) in total soluble lens protein
and Na+ K+ATPase activity, a very highly significant increase (P˂0.001) in calcium lens content in
selenite cataract group. Also significant changes in the molecular weight and area under peaks
estimated in profile of electrophoretic mobility of lens proteins were found in selenite group. All these
changes reduced markedly in caffeine and nifedipine group.
Conclusions: nutrients with antioxidant capabilities can potentially delay against these changes such

The Pros And Cons Of The Chemical Weapons Service
Chemical warfare was starting to gain momentum during the First World War After using less than
ideal equipment from the British against German forces, the United States needed to gain an edge for
fighting into the future to increase their chances at mission success. The United States gained
experience with chemical weapons from the First World War and after transitioning from World War I
to World War II various improvements were made to enhance the capabilities of the Chemical
Weapons Service. Colonel Lewis McBride was directly responsible for changing the Chemical
Weapons Service and helped in securing America s ideals; taking the United States into the future with
new and improved chemical weapons technologies.

Weapons design was typically a task performed by the Ordnance Corps. Due to the less than
acceptable pace of how the Stokes was improving, CPT McBride was charged with this task due to his
knowledge in electrical engineering, passion for all things mechanical, his interests in chemistry, and
his knack for invention. CPT McBride improved upon the Stokes by rifling the barrel and increasing
the range to 3000 yards which were triple the previous range. Not only did McBride triple the range,
he also improved the accuracy and could put rounds inside of a 50 foot circle. Of his many
achievements and accomplishments during his time in the Chemical Weapons Service, he was
awarded over a dozen patents for chemical and electrical inventions. In most of his patented
inventions he specified that his inventions ...may be manufactured and used by or for the Government
for governmental purposes without the payment to me of any royalty thereon (Lindberg, 2005). Many
of McBride s inventions have been used in controlling prisoners and as an offensive weapon on the
battlefield to confuse troops. His greatest accomplishment was said to be his design of riot control
items that consisted of gas guns, spray tanks, cartridges and grenades that aided police departments in
the 1920s and 1930s to battle the organized crime spree during that time frame

Signs, Symbols and Signals of the Underground Railroad
A journey of hundreds of miles lies before you, through swamp, forest and mountain pass. Your
supplies are meager, only what can be comfortably carried so as not to slow your progress to the
Promised Land Canada. The stars and coded messages for guidance, you set out through the night, the
path illuminated by the intermittent flash of lightning. Without a map and no real knowledge of the
surrounding area, your mind races before you and behind you all at once. Was that the barking of the
slavecatchers dogs behind you or just the pounding rain and thunder? Does each step bring you closer

Mr. Still was unusual in that he kept careful, written records of those he assisted, including short
biographies on some, which he published in 1872. Mr. Still often employed railroad metaphors in his
writing. The following example illustrates the way messages were encoded so that only those active in
the railroad would fully understand their meaning, even if intercepted by outsiders:
I have sent via a two o clock four large and two small hams, which indicated that four adults and two
children were being sent by train from Harrisburg to Philadelphia. (Wikipedia, Underground Railroad)
The use of the word via was to indicate that they were not sent on a regular locomotive, but via
Reading, PA. In this case the authorities went to the train station in Philadelphia with the hopes of
intercepting the fugitives, allowing Still s agent to meet them in Reading and escort them to safety.
Some preachers, friends of the cause, were said to have encoded their sermons to inform select
parishioners of the arrival and departure of fugitives over the course of the coming week. Some wore a
specific colored handkerchief in their pocket to indicate a meeting to be held or impending arrival of
fugitives. As a matter of necessity, stationmasters were accustomed to knocks on their doors or
windows at odd hours of the night. The response to the question of Who s there? was

The concept of the Holy Theatre comes from Peter Brook s the Empty Space, in which he separates
theatre into four testaments: Deadly, Holy, Rough, and Immediate Though these lines between said
factions blur, overlap and interplay at any given time.
Still held up by many to be The holy grail of theatre texts , sacred in many quarters. The Holy Theatre
section attempts to rediscover ritual and the spritual aspects of drama, a revaluation of a lost sense of
euphoric communion. The notion of Holy is allowed to mean an (artistic) attempt to reach essences
that are neither only physical nor even mental. Peter Brook defines it as the Theatre of the Invisible
Made Visible.
holy should be imagined as a way of seeing theatre: creating and attending theatre as if it were a holy
rite, a communal passage into the mysteries of life, rather than a vehicle for solely entertainment or
intellectual debate
Though, Brook insists, reality itself must be the goal . The invisible is an act of communication
between actor and audience produced out of the need to impart some emotion. The audience may not
consciously acknowledge the fact that they are being moved by the emotion, yet they are still moved:
the invisible. Brook says it is like

Digital technology is constantly evolving and the craving by consumers and developers alike for
modernity in this realm is skyrocketing. In this regard, the rapid growth and evolution of modern
technologies for web development has permitted the creators of content to achieve a level

utilized by ASP.NET for the development process. The rapid evolution of the .NET framework is a

The main thesis of the article is the attempt to entice the community of native and web development in
a form of increasing the attention or alter the unfavorable views associated to the use of .NET. A sense
of excitement and optimism due to the innovations of .NET and the potential these recent innovations
offer the technologies attached to the framework are perpetuated throughout the entirety of the article.
An example of this is stated by Richard Lander, he tries to show how Microsoft is trying to be
inclusive by introducing Visual Studio to Mac computers in 2016. However as previously mentioned,
the article does not necessarily focus on the opinion of a single author but rather acts as a public forum
for professionals. Although the evolution of .NET is highly acclaimed in the article, the high praise of
Microsoft s developmental framework may be accompanied with biased attached to it. Amongst the
panel are two program managers for Microsoft s .NET team and a Microsoft engineer. However, the
panel also includes a GitHub engineer thus bringing some neutrality to the panel. The form the
information was presented to the reader was structured in manner that will likely benefit the .NET
framework, commencing with the changes, benefits, and solutions to convert to this technology.
Multiple inquisitions were made to the panel of experts, ranging from their views on the evolution of
.NET to the obstacles ahead for the .NET framework. The first

Peace Like A River Analysis
Peace Like River: The Importance of Faith in Life
Many Christians wear faith as a suit of armor protecting them from life s hardships. God guides
believers through loss, poverty, and sickness. The common phrase,
God doesn t give you more than you can handle expresses this idea. The knowledge that they are not
alone and have God s protection gives them strength and hope. Leif
Enger, the author of Peace Like A River, utilizes Reuben Land, the protagonist; to expose the
protection faith provides to Jeremiah Land, Reuben s father, compared to Reuben s brother, Davy
Land s uncertain faith leading to his demolished life.
The miracles Jeremiah Land experiences illustrates how his faith keeps him safe.

Jeremiah takes his son s place completing his earlier wish. It is symbolic that his father gave him his
life, as Jeremiah s first and last miracle was for Reuben to live. In Many ways, Reuben s life comes
full circle at the end of Peace Like A River.
Leif Enger shows the reader the importance of faith by displaying the different roles faith has in
Jeremiah s, Davy s, and Reuben s life. Jeremiah s faith was precious to him. His faith guided his life
through many hardships. When Davy struggled he felt alone because he didn t trust in God to guide
him. He replaced the role of faith in his life with faith in himself giving himself omnipotent power to
determine the fate of others. He believed so strongly in himself, one person, he exacted justice on
Tommy and Israel, taking away any possibility of their future. Reuben s perspective of faith was
shaped by how faith influenced his father and brother, primary figures in his life. Jeremiah s and
Davy s opposite lives allowed Reuben to see faith as a protectant. Reuben wore faith as

Greenhouse Effect Essay
The Greenhouse Effect: Causes Impacts
INTRODUCTION
The greenhouse effect refers to circumstances where the short wavelengths of visible light from the
sun pass through a transparent medium and are absorbed, but the longer wavelengths of the infrared re
radiation from the heated objects are unable to pass through that medium. The trapping of the long
wavelength radiation leads to more heating and a higher resultant temperature. Besides the heating of
an automobile by sunlight through the windshield and the namesake example of heating the
greenhouse by sunlight passing through sealed, transparent windows, the greenhouse effect has been
widely used to describe the trapping of excess heat by the rising concentration of carbon dioxide ...

Almost half the radiation is in the form of visible light, which our eyes are adapted to use.
 About 50% of the Sun s energy is absorbed at the Earth s surface and the rest is reflected or
absorbed by the atmosphere. The reflection of light back into space largely by clouds does not much
affect the basic mechanism; this light, effectively, is lost to the system.
 The absorbed energy warms the surface. Simple presentations of the greenhouse effect, such as the
idealized greenhouse model, show this heat being lost as thermal radiation. The reality is more
complex: the atmosphere near the surface is largely opaque to thermal radiation (with important
exceptions for window bands), and most heat loss from the surface is by sensible heat and latent heat
transport. Radiative energy losses become increasingly important higher in the atmosphere largely
because of the decreasing concentration of water vapour, an important greenhouse gas. It is more
realistic to think of the greenhouse effect as applying to a surface in the mid troposphere, which is
effectively coupled to the surface by a lapse rate.
 The simple picture assumes a steady state. In the real world there is the diurnal cycle as well as
seasonal cycles and weather. Solar heating only applies during daytime. During the night, the
atmosphere cools somewhat, but not greatly, because its emissivity is low, and during the day the
atmosphere warms. Diurnal temperature changes decrease with height in the

Professional Sports Gamblers Essay
Martin was an innovator who bucked the trends and ignored the conventional wisdom of the times by
actively seeking to accept bets from professional gamblers. Professional sports gamblers have a hard
time finding someone who will accept their wagers for obvious reasons. However, Martin was willing
to lose money in the short term taking their bets because it enabled him to make more money in the
long term after he developed the most accurate betting line. Here s how it worked. On every football
Sunday, Martin gathered a group of professional gamblers and offered them his initial point spread for
the next week s football games. He accepted their bets and adjusted the line according to their
wagering until he could get relatively even wagering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Context And Theory Of Corporate Governance
01 The context and theory of corporate governance 1.1 The meaning and purpose of corporate
governance Corporate governance broadly refers to the mechanisms, processes and relations by which
corporations are controlled and directed. Corporate governance has also been more narrowly defined
as a system of law and sound approaches by which corporations are directed and controlled focusing
on the internal and external corporate structures with the intention of monitoring the actions of
management and directors and thereby, mitigating agency risks which may stem from the misdeeds of
corporate officers. Governance structures and principles identify the distribution of rights and
responsibilities among different participants in the corporation ... Show more content on

1.3 The development of corporate governance and corporate governance theory Corporate governance
is a relatively new area and its development has been affected by theories from a number of
disciplines, including finance, economics, accounting, law, management, and organisational behavior.
Agency theory has probably affected the development of the corporate governance framework the
most. Agency theory identifies the agency relationship where one party, the principal, delegates work
to another party, the agent. In the context of a corporation, the owners are the principal and the
directors are the agent. In addition, there are other theories that have affected the development of
corporate governance, which include: transaction costs economics, stakeholder theory, and
stewardship theory. The development of corporate governance is a global occurrence and, as such, is a
complex area including legal, cultural, ownership, and other structural differences. Therefore, some
theories may be more appropriate and relevant to some countries than others. 1.4 Theories of
corporate governance There are a range of theories in corporate governance, such theories address the
cause and effect of variables.  Agency Identifies the agency relationship where one party, the

Using Software And Its Integration With Regular Cost...
Reports produced by an ABC system contain information, such as product margins, that vary from the
information reported for a traditional cost method. It s also possible that some activity based costs may
be irrelevant in certain decision making scenarios; for example, ABC does not conform to accounting
standards and should not be used for external reporting. Since traditional cost figures tend to be the
norm, interpreting ABC data along with regular accounting information can be confusing and lead to
bad decision making. The use of software can streamline the process of maintaining an ABC system
and simplify its integration with regular cost accounting information. (Eileen, nd.)
Even for smaller businesses, the implementation of an activity based costing system can be a
substantial undertaking. The added precision of the activity based system can only be achieved if the
small business owner is willing to put in the time to analyse the manufacturing process with enough
detail to determine how overhead costs are incurred. Due to the difficulty of implementation, many
small business owners don t believe the benefit of an activity based system outweighs the costs. (John,
nd.)
Other than ABC, balanced scorecard is also design for the change of the management accounting.
According to Olve and Sjèostrand (2002) a balanced scorecard is a format for describing activities of
an organisation through a number of measures for four perspectives: financial, customer, internal

Essay on The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990
The path to enacting the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is the history of the disability rights
movement and its struggle to attain a better chance for equality not unlike other minority groups. The
Disability community came to realize that the problem they were fighting was discrimination. The
Disability community came face to face with some of the same problems and challenges that every
individual who is in the minority faces. However, a disabled individual was not considered to be in a
minority therefore could not be afforded the protections under the Civil Rights Act. A growing sense

Rehabilitation Act of 1973 section 504 was in a sense not enacted because the regulations had not
been written let alone implemented. It took a lawsuit, Cherry vs. the Department of Health Education
and Welfare (HEW), three presidential administrations and lots of demonstrations to finalize the
Rehabilitation Act of 1973 section 504 regulations. James Cherry wrote many letters to HEW to urge
implementation of the regulations. Mr. Cherry experienced discrimination in law school by being
denied a parking spot closer to his classes and a key to the schools elevator. Without the Rehabilitation
Act of 1973 section 504 implementation he would not have had any recourse, for the attempts by
Senators Hubert Humphrey, Charles Percy and Congressman Charles Vanik to add disability rights to
the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in 1972 did not work (Fleischer). When Joseph Califano, the
Commissioner of the Department of Health Education and Welfare finally signed the regulations for
implementation in 1978 Mr. Cherry eventually won his fight against HEW and was able to exercise
his rights. More importantly this law and the Fair Housing Act of 1988 gave precedent for a more
comprehensive policy. Situations such as this energized the disability community knowing their

The Core Principles Of Pharmacy
From the beginning footwork of pharmacy in the medical field, a lot of changes have taken place
which in turn set a precedent for the current professional expectations of Pharmacists today. Derived
from the history of pharmacy, educated predications can be made on the presumption that changes are
created to advance and amend the profession. Upon graduating in May 2019, we expect implications
that will take place will be fully implemented by 2029. Although the core principles of pharmacy will
not change, technology and professional recognition will be the major advancements.
In the next four years, we expect the responsibilities of a community pharmacist to change due to
corporate expectations to attain certain numbers and profits. The need for technicians in community
pharmacy will be cut back as time goes on. Directly correlated to this decrease of technicians, the
pharmacist will have to take on the additional duties with the lack of help. The corporations will
benefit from this because it decreases their budget and increases their profit. However, this present
trend will only become worse and create a high pressure environment for the pharmacist. Ultimately,
there will be less time for the pharmacist to consult with the patients. Due to this fact there will be
longer wait periods for receiving drug pick ups, which will negatively impact patient satisfaction. This
can lead patients in the direction of filling their prescriptions through mail order. Mail order already

Disadvantages Of Free Trade
First, free trade is the economic policy of not discriminating against imports from and exports to
foreign jurisdictions. Sellers and Buyers from separate economies may deliberately trade without the
domestic government applying quotas, tariffs, prohibitions, or subsidies on their goods and services.
With emphasis, free trade is the opposite of economic isolationism or trade protectionism. Not to
mention, governments with free trade agreements (FTAs) do not necessarily disregard all control of
taxation of exports and imports. In modern international trade, hardly any so called FTAs fit the
textbook definition of free trade (Investopedia, 2017).
Correspondingly, International trade is the foundation upon which American prosperity rests. Free
trade policies have built a level of competition in today s open market that engen ders continual
modernization and leads to better paying jobs, better products, new markets, and increased savings
and investment. Also, free trade allows more goods and services to reach American consumers at
lower prices, thereby considerably increasing their standard of living. Likewise, the benefits of free
trade continue well beyond American households. Not to men tion, free trade helps spread the value of
freedom, foster economic development in poor coun tries, and reinforce the rule of law. The national
debate over trade related issues too often dis regards these important benefits (Froning, 2000).
With emphasis, the positive effects of an open

LGBT rights are being established and strengthened step by step. However, not so long ago, gay
people were usually glared at especially when they chose to exhibit their cross dressing or their affairs

Character Analysis Of The Pearl By John Steinbeck
The Pearl written by John Steinbeck follows the journey of a poor family that gets lucky. In this
impactful tale about how Kino s, the father s, perfect life turned into a roller coaster constantly going
down. When Kino finds the Pearl of the world, greed and avarice built up in him and others in the
town, causing Kino s personality to take many different forms. From a man to animal to machine Kino
is continuously changing as the family goes on their difficult journey throughout the tale.
Kino begins the story as a man, which is a human that has human instincts and thinks out each action
before performing it in the beginning of the story. Kino always thinks before performing an action and
his goal is to live his life happily and protect his family. There are many scenarios where Kino s
actions support this claim. For example, He could kill the doctor more easily than he could talk to him,
for all of the doctors race spoke to Kino s race as though they were simple animals (Chapter 2
Steinbeck). This quote shows that Kino thinking his actions through with not killing the doctor because
of the disrespect he was receiving from him. This also shows that Kino sees the idea of him being an
animal as insulting. Kino would not want the doctor and the rest of the doctors race to be correct about
Kino being uncivilized. Another example that shows Kino acts like a man is For it is said that humans
are never satisfied, that you give them one thing and they want something more (Chapter 3 Steinbeck).
This quote explains that humans will never be satisfied and always want something more. Kino is like
this because he has everything he needs a nice family a son that has just become healthy again and a
stable home, yet he still asks the doctor to help his son after he finds the pearl. This shows he is not
satisfied, which is a trait shared with all of mankind. This quote also has an impactful lesson behind it,
which is that if Kino did not act as most of mankind would in the event where he was to sell the pearl
he would have been satisfied with the original price he was offered and the tale would not result in the
death of his son Coyotito. The final example is, It was at once property and source of food, for a man

A zoonotic disease is a disease that can be transmitted from animal to human (Weber, 2005 p485).
Different pets put people at different health related risk. Birds can can carry and spread germs to
people. Some species may carry Salmonella or Chlamydia psittaci. It is unlikely to get sick from dogs
and cats however, they may still be a health risk due to germs they may carry. These germs may result
in a bacterial disease if not dealt with properly. Fish, amphibians, and reptiles all put you at risk for
Salmonella (Weber, 2005). With all these infections and diseases lingering on pets, young children and
people with decrease immune systems are in danger. Also if pets aren t cleaned after and groomed
properly this could increase the risk. In the United States, over 350,000 people are treated for bites
every year and it is mostly children that are affected (Esposito, Picciolli, Semino, Principi, 2013).
Children are not aware when they are provoking these pets. The pets are not aware of age differences

over two thirds and cat bites account for around 3 15% (Esposito, Picciolli, Semino, Principi, 2013).

Can a Native State Exist Within a Canadian State
Political Scientists, Thomas Flanagan and Roger Townshend explain the key to the big question: Can a
Native State Exist Within a Canadian State? in the readings: The Case for Native Sovereignty and
Native Sovereignty: Does Anyone Really Want an Aboriginal Archipelago? . The essay will outline
and provide evidence to both sides, whether there could or could not exist a Native State in Canada.
The document will argue that Natives are not organized enough to form their own government.
Throughout the decades, Natives have agonized many savageries at the hands of the European settlers.

This would gradually abolish the Native rituals, religions, languages and traditions. Non Native
children had been separated from Native schools to regular English schools. They were not allowed to
practice their traditions, religions or language. They have been pushed away from their society and
that caused physical, sexual and emotional assault. Hunting rights were limited and the environment
of Natives and that has been affected by expansion events. One of the reasons why Aboriginals are in
jeopardy is caused by Canadian societies, which are outside their reserves. When they want to
participate and interact with non Natives, they are being suppressed.
On the reserves, there is a lack of education and Natives are forced to move from place to place to find
a job and live a stable life something that their reserve cannot provide. In the history of Canada, before
the Europeans have arrived to the North America, the Aboriginals struggled with their individual form
of government with a steady economy. Hence the fact, if the country were to allow them to form their
own government, they would be able to create and keep their sovereignty. Within past, the Natives
became familiar of using the easiest style of society, called a hunter gatherer society. Using this out of
date form of civilization they were repetitively considering for new regimes and food. Accordingly,
they were being forced to endlessly travel from momentary reserves.

Research Paper On Progeria

History
Progeria is a rare genetic disorder causing one to age rapidly. It was founded in 1886 and in 1897 by
doctors in England by the names of Dr. Hutchinson and Dr. Hastings Gilford. Hence the doctors that
founded it, it also goes by the name Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome. This disease is quite rare
and only affects about 1 in 20 million people in the world. Most children diagnosed with progeria
often die of complications like atherosclerosis, which is a buildup of plaque against artery walls that
causes tearing of the blood vessels. When a child is born, the parents cannot necessarily tell their child
has progeria. The characteristics are typically reflected within the first two years and then that child is

Awareness of this disease needs to be recognized. Treatment is becoming available now with new
technologies and advancements. If the new clinical trial helps treat progeria even more than the first
trial, good outcomes will be there and a possible cure for the disease could eventually appear in the
near future. The rare genetic disease is an unfortunate and a sad issue in the world. If doctors are able
to stop the protein progerin completely from going against normal cell activity and functioning, it
could mean that people that suffer from progeria may be able to live a longer and happier life. It could
also mean that people with late onset progeria (adult progeria) could get treatment as soon as possible
and perhaps it could vanish completely so they can go back to their old living. Obviously all doctors
and researchers are still in the making of these trials, but depending on how the data turns up, progeria
could have a cure. Looking back at the timeline of this disease, it was discovered in the 1800 s and
doctors were able to identify that it s a genetic disorder due to a point mutation. It can be diagnosed as
a young child or adult, symptoms are noticeable and characteristics of the disease are easy to identify,
and treatment is being discovered. There is no doubt that this timeline will continue throughout the

intend to carry out establish the times, places, and people who will be observed. Note that in some
countries, the law may prohibit you from taking video films of people without their explicit written
consent.
3.Decide on the recording technique you will use. Will you rely on hand written notes (traditional),
audio, or video and audio records? Note that the more complete your record, the longer it takes to
analyze. It is useful to be able to make some kind of first cut analysis during observation
4.Analyse, summarize, and report in relation to the objectives set out at the start.
Observation as an approach in a laboratory setting is instantiated quite specifically using the
Laboratory Based Observation approach. A variation of single user observation is two user
observation where pairs of users are invited to work together and the above process is carried out on
the pair. One of the users in two user observation may be a member of the design team, and this is
particularly useful in situations where there may be an unstable prototype.

Aesthetics Of Kant And Hegel

The Aesthetics of Kant and Hegel
The theories of art put forward by Immanuel Kant (1724 1804) and G.W.F. Hegel (1770 1831) have
long been seen to represent two rival positions which nonetheless arise from a distinctive tradition of
German philosophy. In both cases, a concern with problems of art and beauty represents only one part
of their respective philosophical systems. It is this larger, theoretical framework which lends both
theories their characteristic breadth and range of interest. Whilst Kant s name has principally been
associated with the development of a formalist aesthetics, Hegel is seen to represent an ... Show more

Central to his view of aesthetic judgment is the concept of purposiveness. This refers to the fact that
we must assume a certain coherence and connection among the appearances of the external world or
nature so that we can reflect coherently upon it. We presuppose a harmony between nature and our
cognitive powers, as if they were suited or adapted to each other. It is this presumed harmony, which
Kant calls purposiveness, which gives us pleasure. According to Kant, when we make an aesthetic
judgment, we make a judgment about the form of an object (not its content as given through our
senses); the object s form gives rise to pleasure because it exhibits a harmony with our cognitive
powers, namely our understanding and imagination. We then call the object
beautiful and our ability to judge the object by such a pleasure is taste . An aesthetic judgment is not a
judgment of cognition; it does not refer to the object and gives us no knowledge of it. It refers only to
the perceiving subject, to our self and its feeling of pleasure or displeasure. It tells us only about how
we, as subjects, are affected by our mental representation of the

How Did Anne Moody Contribute To The Civil Rights Movement
The abolishment of slavery in 1865 was only the beginning of a long, strenuous fight for African
American citizens in the United States. The abolition may have freed the slaves physically but did not
free them of the social injustices they had yet to endure. The African American civil rights movement
took place in 1954 through 1968. (history.com) The civil rights movement is described as the struggle
for social justice, a battle fought for blacks to be seen as equals under the laws of the United states.
Many people were involved in progressing the movement including but not limited to Rosa Parks,
Martin Luther King Jr, Malcom X and Anne Moody. Throughout her lifetime Anne Moody has had a
major impact on the African American Civil rights movement. Despite her personal struggles, Moody
used her life to promote the enlightenment and progression of African American citizens. Moody s
perseverance, hatred, and alienation contributed to her educational and creative success as well as her
contributions to the Civil Rights Movement in the novel, Coming of age in Mississippi.
Essie Mae Moody also known as Anne Moody was born September 15, 1940 in Wilkerson County
Mississippi to Fred Moody and Elnire Davis. (briticanna.com) She was the eldest of nine. After her
parents divorced, Moody grew up with her mother nicknamed, Toosweet in Centreville Mississippi.
Meanwhile her father lived nearby in a town known as Woodville Mississippi. In order to help support
her family Moody had to

The Steady Decline of Salmon Populations
From the San Francisco Bay to streams and rivers of Oregon, salmon populations have been steadily
decreasing over the past two decades but more rapidly within recent years. In general, fish populations
in the Pacific Northwest region have always fluctuated, but the overall trend continues on a downward
slope to extinction. While natural phenomena such as flooding and predators of the food chain do
affect salmon populations, human activity poses the greatest threat by far. The four main reasons of
salmon plummeting are as followed: Harvest, Hatcheries, Hydropower, and Habitat. It s clear that
water ecosystems and management of human activity threaten salmon as a whole. Whether it s a bay,
river or stream whatever body of water that contains salmon should be subject to ethics that guide our
actions as a part of achieving a better overall environment. Salmon have a truly incredible life cycle.
Like all fish, salmon spawn from female eggs and then go on to develop into alevin, which is a term
for newly hatched fish. First off, they derive nourishment from the yolk sac from where the salmon are
born. Once the sac has been absorbed, the fry, or baby fish, then emerges from the river gravel and
starts the search for food. Fry instinctively deal with the river currents and learn to swim together as a
school right away. Anywhere from a couple days to two years old, fry will continue to live in fresh
water until they start the next, smolting, phase. Smolting is a

African Americans During World War I
Many African Americans had moved north during the Great Migration to escape conditions in the
south, but found that discrimination was still prevalent in northern cities. African Americans not only
had difficulties finding jobs, but still felt the stigma of being black. Living within the time of legal
discrimination, many African Americans soon realized that though they may have escaped the
violence of the south, they still had to deal with the challenges and setbacks of being black in
America. The Great Migration began in the 1910s and 1920s during World War I. The second wave of
migration of Blacks to the north and west began in the 1940s during and after World War II
(Alexander, 1998, p. 352). With the war going on, many black people found jobs due to the numerous
openings of those fighting in the war. But once the war ended, white soldiers came back, finding
blacks filling their jobs and wanting them back. Black men had particularly difficult times finding
jobs; they were the last to be hired or accepted in the unions and were the first to be let go during the
Depression (Dyer, 2001). Not only did the new immigrants face tension with whites over jobs, but
also with Northern blacks, who believed that the migrants threatened their social, economic and
political security (Tolnay 1997, p.1216).
African Americans in the north and south were able to face blatant discrimination in jobs, housing,
wages and other areas of public life because of the enforcement of Jim Crow

The Birth Order And Personality
Birth Order, as in the order a child is born in their family, has been a popular topic for researchers and
the general public for decades. Originally it was claimed that personality was determined by birth
order and even now there are many stereotypes of the firstborn being mature and driven while the
youngest child is often described as wild and rebellious (Bleske Rechek and Kelley, 2013). Nowadays
researchers find birth order and personality are unrelated. Whether or not intelligence is related to
birth order is not completely clear as there have been many studies supporting both sides. However,
based on the newest research the prevailing attitude is that intelligence is linked with birth order. Last
of all an individual s health seems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore any perceived link would only be visible when an individual is with their family (Bleske
Rechek and Kelley, 2013). Both Birth order and personality: A within family test using independent
self reports from both firstborn and later born siblings and Examining the effects of birth order on
personality came to the same conclusion. With both study s results supporting each other it can be said
that an individual s personality is unaffected by the order they are born within their family.
Intelligence
Intelligence is a fair amount easier to measure on account of IQ (Intelligence quotient) tests. That said
many researchers have conducted studies on a possible connection between intelligence and birth
order. What studies such as Examining the effects of birth order on personality have found is that
firstborns do slightly better on intelligence tests (Rohrer, Egloff, and Schmukle, 2015). To show how
slight the effect is a randomly picked firstborn had a 52% chance of having a higher IQ than a
randomly picked secondborn. (Rohrer, Egloff, and Schmukle, 2015, pg 14225) IQ tests are not the
only way intelligence was measured in terms of linking it to birth order, educational attainment was
also used. Birth order and educational attainment: evidence from fully adopted sibling groups focuses

Many people believe that because of the words Twain used in the book many people blatantly believe that the book Huck Finn is racist. Since the book was First Published people have been trying to ban and not allow people to read Huck Finn. Many people believe that Huck Finn should not be taught in school simply because of the tone and words Twain decided to use while writing the book while others, on the contrary, believe that Huck Finn had a powerful message that spoke against racism and slavery. Falling from grace ( Twain 35) This quote can mean many different things, but how most people see it, it can show how much this book affected racism and hate in the U.S.A it really portrays what life was like during the time period that Huck Finn was set in. Why should Huck Finn be taught in school and why is there so much controversy surrounding a novel. The video we watched in class gave us the story of a mother and a daughter who decided that because their views and closed mindedness was more important than allowing students to learn what life was like and why it is so important to never repeat those mistakes again, all because they are much too feeble minded to realize the impact of Huck Finn. • 3. Group Of Emotion In Monet According to Claude Monet, a famous impressionist artist, It s on the strength of observation and reflection that one finds a way. So we must dig and delve unceasingly. (as cited by Kendall, 2004). As artwork is chiefly depicted in many different ways, such as in natural, spiritual, objective, or subjective description, Monet believes that a plein air painting style can convey such profound feelings to audiences based on thorough observation and comprehension (Perry, 1927). Thus, there are four groups of emotion in Monet s paintings, which are serenity, loneliness, confusion, and joy. The first group of emotion in Monet s paintings is serenity. Joy is an emotion that reflects the fulfilment of human s desires involving the relationship. Monet, in general, depicts the happiness in his paintings based on a group of people and a nature as a subject matter (Stuart, 1916). A group of people represents love and caring between friends with an impressively intimate conversation. They share a moment of laughter while reminiscing the hilarious action of their friends. Furthermore, the beautiful nature around them, such as the flower bushes and the small trees, is depicted in a vividly bright tone of color as responded to the joyful moment of people. While, the their clothes are depicted in a more natural shade of color, such as blue and green. These colors imply that their feelings toward one another are perceptibly real and sincere as a natural color (Fitzgerald, 1905). The emotion of his paintings is mostly described in an amiable atmosphere of a group of people that shares a similar taste in particular subject (Fitzgerald, 1905). Monet paints them with the reminiscent emotion of his colleagues helping and supporting him through difficult times (Borgmeyer, 1912). A wonderful example of joyful moments in Monet s paintings is Le Déjeuner sur l herbe or known as The luncheon on the Grass (Isaacson, 1972). The subject matter is a group of people having lunch together amid the beautiful nature. The colors in this painting include a natural shade of yellow, green, and blue. The painting represents the amiably delightful atmosphere of friends sharing food and beverage (Isaacson, 1972). In summary, joy is the final group of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Greenhouse Effect Essay The Greenhouse Effect: Causes Impacts INTRODUCTION The greenhouse effect refers to circumstances where the short wavelengths of visible light from the sun pass through a transparent medium and are absorbed, but the longer wavelengths of the infrared re radiation from the heated objects are unable to pass through that medium. The trapping of the long wavelength radiation leads to more heating and a higher resultant temperature. Besides the heating of an automobile by sunlight through the windshield and the namesake example of heating the greenhouse by sunlight passing through sealed, transparent windows, the greenhouse effect has been widely used to describe the trapping of excess heat by the rising concentration of carbon dioxide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Almost half the radiation is in the form of visible light, which our eyes are adapted to use.  About 50% of the Sun s energy is absorbed at the Earth s surface and the rest is reflected or absorbed by the atmosphere. The reflection of light back into space largely by clouds does not much affect the basic mechanism; this light, effectively, is lost to the system.  The absorbed energy warms the surface. Simple presentations of the greenhouse effect, such as the idealized greenhouse model, show this heat being lost as thermal radiation. The reality is more complex: the atmosphere near the surface is largely opaque to thermal radiation (with important exceptions for window bands), and most heat loss from the surface is by sensible heat and latent heat transport. Radiative energy losses become increasingly important higher in the atmosphere largely because of the decreasing concentration of water vapour, an important greenhouse gas. It is more realistic to think of the greenhouse effect as applying to a surface in the mid troposphere, which is effectively coupled to the surface by a lapse rate.  The simple picture assumes a steady state. In the real world there is the diurnal cycle as well as seasonal cycles and weather. Solar heating only applies during daytime. During the night, the atmosphere cools somewhat, but not greatly, because its emissivity is low, and during the day the atmosphere warms. Diurnal temperature changes decrease with height in the ... • 26. Using Software And Its Integration With Regular Cost... Reports produced by an ABC system contain information, such as product margins, that vary from the information reported for a traditional cost method. It s also possible that some activity based costs may be irrelevant in certain decision making scenarios; for example, ABC does not conform to accounting standards and should not be used for external reporting. Since traditional cost figures tend to be the norm, interpreting ABC data along with regular accounting information can be confusing and lead to bad decision making. The use of software can streamline the process of maintaining an ABC system and simplify its integration with regular cost accounting information. (Eileen, nd.) Even for smaller businesses, the implementation of an activity based costing system can be a substantial undertaking. The added precision of the activity based system can only be achieved if the small business owner is willing to put in the time to analyse the manufacturing process with enough detail to determine how overhead costs are incurred. Due to the difficulty of implementation, many small business owners don t believe the benefit of an activity based system outweighs the costs. (John, nd.) Other than ABC, balanced scorecard is also design for the change of the management accounting. The need for technicians in community pharmacy will be cut back as time goes on. Directly correlated to this decrease of technicians, the pharmacist will have to take on the additional duties with the lack of help. The corporations will benefit from this because it decreases their budget and increases their profit. However, this present trend will only become worse and create a high pressure environment for the pharmacist. Ultimately, there will be less time for the pharmacist to consult with the patients. Not to mention, governments with free trade agreements (FTAs) do not necessarily disregard all control of taxation of exports and imports. • 34. Character Analysis Of The Pearl By John Steinbeck The Pearl written by John Steinbeck follows the journey of a poor family that gets lucky. In this impactful tale about how Kino s, the father s, perfect life turned into a roller coaster constantly going down. When Kino finds the Pearl of the world, greed and avarice built up in him and others in the town, causing Kino s personality to take many different forms. From a man to animal to machine Kino is continuously changing as the family goes on their difficult journey throughout the tale. Kino begins the story as a man, which is a human that has human instincts and thinks out each action before performing it in the beginning of the story. Kino always thinks before performing an action and his goal is to live his life happily and protect his family. There are many scenarios where Kino s actions support this claim. For example, He could kill the doctor more easily than he could talk to him, for all of the doctors race spoke to Kino s race as though they were simple animals (Chapter 2 Steinbeck). This quote shows that Kino thinking his actions through with not killing the doctor because of the disrespect he was receiving from him. This also shows that Kino sees the idea of him being an animal as insulting. Kino would not want the doctor and the rest of the doctors race to be correct about Kino being uncivilized. Another example that shows Kino acts like a man is For it is said that humans are never satisfied, that you give them one thing and they want something more (Chapter 3 Steinbeck). This quote explains that humans will never be satisfied and always want something more. Kino is like this because he has everything he needs a nice family a son that has just become healthy again and a stable home, yet he still asks the doctor to help his son after he finds the pearl. This shows he is not satisfied, which is a trait shared with all of mankind. This quote also has an impactful lesson behind it, which is that if Kino did not act as most of mankind would in the event where he was to sell the pearl he would have been satisfied with the original price he was offered and the tale would not result in the death of his son Coyotito. • 40. Research Paper On Progeria 10527 History Progeria is a rare genetic disorder causing one to age rapidly. It was founded in 1886 and in 1897 by doctors in England by the names of Dr. Hutchinson and Dr. Hastings Gilford. Hence the doctors that founded it, it also goes by the name Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome. This disease is quite rare and only affects about 1 in 20 million people in the world. Most children diagnosed with progeria often die of complications like atherosclerosis, which is a buildup of plaque against artery walls that causes tearing of the blood vessels. When a child is born, the parents cannot necessarily tell their child has progeria. The characteristics are typically reflected within the first two years and then that child is diagnosed with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Awareness of this disease needs to be recognized. Treatment is becoming available now with new technologies and advancements. If the new clinical trial helps treat progeria even more than the first trial, good outcomes will be there and a possible cure for the disease could eventually appear in the near future. The rare genetic disease is an unfortunate and a sad issue in the world. If doctors are able to stop the protein progerin completely from going against normal cell activity and functioning, it could mean that people that suffer from progeria may be able to live a longer and happier life. It could also mean that people with late onset progeria (adult progeria) could get treatment as soon as possible and perhaps it could vanish completely so they can go back to their old living. Obviously all doctors and researchers are still in the making of these trials, but depending on how the data turns up, progeria could have a cure. Looking back at the timeline of this disease, it was discovered in the 1800 s and doctors were able to identify that it s a genetic disorder due to a point mutation. It can be diagnosed as a young child or adult, symptoms are noticeable and characteristics of the disease are easy to identify, and treatment is being discovered. There is no doubt that this timeline will continue throughout the next 50 years and new technologies are going ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

McGraw Hill International. Summary description Observational methods involve an investigator viewing users as they work and taking notes on the activity which takes place. Observation may be either direct, where the investigator is actually present during the task, or indirect, where the task is viewed by some other means such as through use of a video camera. Typical Application Areas Useful early in specification for obtaining qualitative data. This method is an alternative (non involving) version of Contextual Inquiry. It is useful to be able to make some kind of first cut analysis during observation 4.Analyse, summarize, and report in relation to the objectives set out at the start. Observation as an approach in a laboratory setting is instantiated quite specifically using the Laboratory Based Observation approach. A variation of single user observation is two user observation where pairs of users are invited to work together and the above process is carried out on the pair. One of the users in two user observation may be a member of the design team, and this is particularly useful in situations where there may be an unstable prototype. Aesthetics Of Kant And Hegel Shashikant Dr. Prashanta Chakravarty M.A. English (I Semester) 2nd November 2015 The Aesthetics of Kant and Hegel The theories of art put forward by Immanuel Kant (1724 1804) and G.W.F. Hegel (1770 1831) have long been seen to represent two rival positions which nonetheless arise from a distinctive tradition of German philosophy. In both cases, a concern with problems of art and beauty represents only one part of their respective philosophical systems. It is this larger, theoretical framework which lends both theories their characteristic breadth and range of interest. Whilst Kant s name has principally been associated with the development of a formalist aesthetics, Hegel is seen to represent an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Central to his view of aesthetic judgment is the concept of purposiveness. This refers to the fact that we must assume a certain coherence and connection among the appearances of the external world or nature so that we can reflect coherently upon it. We presuppose a harmony between nature and our cognitive powers, as if they were suited or adapted to each other. It is this presumed harmony, which Kant calls purposiveness, which gives us pleasure. According to Kant, when we make an aesthetic judgment, we make a judgment about the form of an object (not its content as given through our senses); the object s form gives rise to pleasure because it exhibits a harmony with our cognitive powers, namely our understanding and imagination. We then call the object beautiful and our ability to judge the object by such a pleasure is taste . An aesthetic judgment is not a judgment of cognition; it does not refer to the object and gives us no knowledge of it. It refers only to the perceiving subject, to our self and its feeling of pleasure or displeasure. It tells us only about how we, as subjects, are affected by our mental representation of the ... • 45. The Steady Decline of Salmon Populations From the San Francisco Bay to streams and rivers of Oregon, salmon populations have been steadily decreasing over the past two decades but more rapidly within recent years. In general, fish populations in the Pacific Northwest region have always fluctuated, but the overall trend continues on a downward slope to extinction. While natural phenomena such as flooding and predators of the food chain do affect salmon populations, human activity poses the greatest threat by far. The four main reasons of salmon plummeting are as followed: Harvest, Hatcheries, Hydropower, and Habitat. It s clear that water ecosystems and management of human activity threaten salmon as a whole. Whether it s a bay, river or stream whatever body of water that contains salmon should be subject to ethics that guide our actions as a part of achieving a better overall environment. Salmon have a truly incredible life cycle. Like all fish, salmon spawn from female eggs and then go on to develop into alevin, which is a term for newly hatched fish. First off, they derive nourishment from the yolk sac from where the salmon are born. Once the sac has been absorbed, the fry, or baby fish, then emerges from the river gravel and starts the search for food. Fry instinctively deal with the river currents and learn to swim together as a school right away. Anywhere from a couple days to two years old, fry will continue to live in fresh water until they start the next, smolting, phase. Smolting is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. African Americans During World War I Many African Americans had moved north during the Great Migration to escape conditions in the south, but found that discrimination was still prevalent in northern cities. African Americans not only had difficulties finding jobs, but still felt the stigma of being black. Living within the time of legal discrimination, many African Americans soon realized that though they may have escaped the violence of the south, they still had to deal with the challenges and setbacks of being black in America. The Great Migration began in the 1910s and 1920s during World War I. The second wave of migration of Blacks to the north and west began in the 1940s during and after World War II (Alexander, 1998, p. 352). With the war going on, many black people found jobs due to the numerous openings of those fighting in the war. But once the war ended, white soldiers came back, finding blacks filling their jobs and wanting them back. Black men had particularly difficult times finding jobs; they were the last to be hired or accepted in the unions and were the first to be let go during the Depression (Dyer, 2001). Not only did the new immigrants face tension with whites over jobs, but also with Northern blacks, who believed that the migrants threatened their social, economic and political security (Tolnay 1997, p.1216). African Americans in the north and south were able to face blatant discrimination in jobs, housing, wages and other areas of public life because of the enforcement of Jim Crow ... • 49. The Birth Order And Personality Birth Order, as in the order a child is born in their family, has been a popular topic for researchers and the general public for decades. Originally it was claimed that personality was determined by birth order and even now there are many stereotypes of the firstborn being mature and driven while the youngest child is often described as wild and rebellious (Bleske Rechek and Kelley, 2013). Nowadays researchers find birth order and personality are unrelated. Whether or not intelligence is related to birth order is not completely clear as there have been many studies supporting both sides. However, based on the newest research the prevailing attitude is that intelligence is linked with birth order. Last of all an individual s health seems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore any perceived link would only be visible when an individual is with their family (Bleske Rechek and Kelley, 2013). Both Birth order and personality: A within family test using independent self reports from both firstborn and later born siblings and Examining the effects of birth order on personality came to the same conclusion. With both study s results supporting each other it can be said that an individual s personality is unaffected by the order they are born within their family. Intelligence Intelligence is a fair amount easier to measure on account of IQ (Intelligence quotient) tests. That said many researchers have conducted studies on a possible connection between intelligence and birth order. What studies such as Examining the effects of birth order on personality have found is that firstborns do slightly better on intelligence tests (Rohrer, Egloff, and Schmukle, 2015). To show how slight the effect is a randomly picked firstborn had a 52% chance of having a higher IQ than a randomly picked secondborn. (Rohrer, Egloff, and Schmukle, 2015, pg 14225) IQ tests are not the only way intelligence was measured in terms of linking it to birth order, educational attainment was also used.
