The document provides initial plans and ideas for a music video project. It includes suggestions to generate 3 ideas for interpreting a song using different video styles. One idea involves stop-motion animation to depict a love story. Another uses a narrative comic book style to represent the song's lyrics indirectly. A third tells a romance story through observation with themes of escapism. Potential strengths and weaknesses of the ideas are listed. The document also outlines a final idea for a Tyler, the Creator song involving animations representing the lyrics during a dream sequence intercut with reality.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. Idea Generation
• Select a song/track that you like [or don’t like!]
• Generate three ideas for music videos employing styles, techniques
and conventions that we have looked at in previous sessions. Explore
how you could interpret the song differently using different methods
• You can add any extra info you think is relevant, images, mind maps,
etc
• For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us to generate these
4. Idea one
They have gone for a stopmotion animation style in this music video. They keep cutting
from simple sketches in a book then back to reality. This works really well with the
whole story line of the story line of the video. It is a love story that is showing two
people falling in love. The girl is just imagining this in her head but by the end the stop
motion animations is all over and it is just reality. The stop motions really effects the
audience as it shows a quick montage like concept of the too people falling in love. It
kind of looks like they are not going to ever actually be able to be together and it
makes the audience feel bad, but they do finally get together. The beat goes really well
with the movement. The stop motion really extracts the emotions of the audience.
They don’t actually sing the song in the video but because the beat and the
lyrics go really well together there is no need. It would ruin the whole concept of
falling in love if it had some tacky miming in place. It would be less effective to the
audience.
5. Idea two
• The storyline narrative is an example of amplification. the makers
definitely had some freedom to interpret the lyrics. There is a very
clear representation of lyrics but rather than having a very literal
representation the director has chosen to use a more indirect things
to attract the audience; making it seem almost like a story. The
narrative centers around the romance between the comic book man
and the reader. There is a certain hint of the "against all odds" "love
conquers all" stereotype present within the video- a popular theme
within the new wave genre. This would make it really popular among
young teens who aspire to have love like it. It attracts both man and
women who are primarily in the middle class.
6. Idea three
• In this video the audience are the observers. There is not much of a
direct mode to address them; but this is not the only way of
communicating with the audience. The target audience for this would
be male and female in equally and primarily middle classed young
adults who identify with the themes in this; romance or love at first
sight of the kind that is shown in the video may be an ideal that a
young adult audience would aspire to. In viewing something which so
heavily narrative based the audience would experience a sense of
escapism; intensified by the fact that a major theme of the narrative
is just that- escaping into another world, although this isn't always
positive. In short, this video would have great appeal because of its
romantic, escapist themes and the narrative; which provides the
audience with huge opportunity for investment into the storyline and
characters. Here's a kick in the teeth though; in the sequel song "The
sun always shines on TV" the man turns back into a sketch and
disappears. Let's hope you didn't invest too much into the storyline.
8. Summary
• 5 strengths of your ideas you could use
The animation would look really good and fit well with certain songs.
The love story dancing and song link would look really nice and it would be
able to catch the emotions of the audience.
The live band would look really cool.
With animation I have more space to breath as I can focus more animating
that filming. If it is boring it can be saved by animations.
The live band would be simple to do.
• 5 weaknesses of you ideas
The animation will take a long time
The live band would probably be really boring.
The love story idea could not work as I have no experience about dancing
The band idea might not work as there is no good place to film it
The love story might have a hard time finding a cast.
9. Final idea – artist/title/info
• Glitter/Tyler, the Creator
• Brief biographical background – the song starts off sounding quite
nice and then goes into starts to sound like a trance type think and
then it slowly wears off.
• Links to other artists
• Asap rocky, lil uzi vert, xxxtentacion.
• Genre info
• Tyler the creator is a rapper, but he likes to make his songs different.
Its not just straight up rap. He likes to have cool sounds and beats
that not a lot of people use. Other rappers are associated with
violence and crime where as this one just likes to chill and be happy.
10. Final idea – track summary
• Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content, duration, pace and style
of the song]
In this song he is talking about a girl and how much he likes her. Because this girl is
so beautiful it makes him nervous and starts to question if he is good enough. He
then says that he feels like “glitter” when around this girl. This means that he feels
really happy as the work glitter is generally associated with fun and jolly things. For
example you don’t put glitter on something if it something sad, but you will if you
want something to look jolly and stand out. This also links with the rappers life
style, he likes to dress in really colorful clothing so he stands outs, like “glitter”.
This means that the song is actually about him and that this girls makes him a
better person as bright colors are normally associated with happiness.
The song would go really well with some weird imaginations as the sounds in the
song are really weird and would go with some things that are associated with
happiness.
The pace of the song is quite slow to start with but gradually get faster. It is almost
like the song is the rappers heartrate, when speaking to this girl. In the video I
could associate it with that. The song then goes to a darker part where the music
gets lower and more angry. It then quickly gets out of that and has a happy beat. I
could also use this to make a story of video.
11. Final idea – your idea
• Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your interpretation, use of
imagery or narrative, genre conventions, etc]
It will start off with some one walking somewhere on their phone. They will be
no music. The person will receive a text saying hey. [The music will start] there
will be a close up of the persons eye, there will be squiggles of black lines and
then a worm like creature that stops and looks towards the screen and then it
goes of the eye. The person shakes their head and then receives another text
saying ‘??? X’ the person falls backwards and then enters another dimension
whilst doing so. It is just a white background with nothing there but the
person. Fire works start going off in the background, linking to the lyrics. I have
1 minute 22 seconds to fill out the animation with things that link towards the
lyrics before the bad character (animated) comes into scene. He is going to lip
sync to the lyrics for about 30 seconds. There is some one saying “how ya feel”
this is going to cut to the scene where he is on the floor and someone is going
saying this. It then keeps cutting back from the dream to reality (matching in
with the synth sound that panning from left to right). He then wakes up and
looks for his phone and tries to ring this girl.
12. Final idea – techniques and styles
• Video techniques/style/conventions to be used [include how you intend to
implement these]
I am going to be using a lot of animation for the whole animation dream part. I
will use this to portray things that are happening in the lyrics. It will show the
character confronting his ’self confidence demon’ as well. I will do this by
filming someone in front of a white screen they will be doing all of the
reactions to the animations and then I am going to add them in after.
I will also film a scene when he fall into the dream and when he wakes up.
When he falls into the dream it is going to be a scene of the character falling
back and then being in the dream. It will look like he is falling back but he is
really just going into the dream. He is not on his back in the dream he is
standing up
When he wakes up the characters eye movement is going to match the sound
of the synth in the song. Because the sounds pans from left to right it work
perfectly for the waking up part as it suits really well with being in a confused
state. I will put a scene of the character opening and closing his eyes over the
animation place but turn down the opacity so you can see what is happening
better.
13. Potential research targets
• I need to research how other products have used this kind of
animation/reality technique and how they have done it. I will look 3
different products to see what they have done differently.
• I need to research how to actually do the animations and practice it
so I can do it quickly and more effective in the final product.
• I need to look where I can film it and where the best place to film it
would be. Green screen, white background? (for the animation).
Inside, outside? (for the actual real part).
