Initial Plans
Your Name
Idea one
The beautiful ones- suede
Showing ideas of how the class system still effects modern day society but
is swept under the rug almost and ignore that so many people are still
homeless and living in poverty. A music video would be a really good way
to raise awareness.
My video idea would show maybe two or three kids who are living on a
council estate(teenagers), kicking about after school, avoiding going home,
causing trouble to then go home at the end to a broken home weather
they are a young career, sleeping rough, family problems etc. showing the
issues so many people are struggling with especially in the UK, but are still
denied the support they need. As well as this I would tap into how
everyday people would react, judge and assume circumstances and I feel
like this would be a really interesting concept.
The idea of showing the’ least beautiful’ members of society So in a way its
ironic but also sheds light on current problems within our society
particularly in Britain.
Idea two
Life itself- glass animals.
For this song I instantly thought of an idea. Glass animals typically have
bizarre videos to accompany their weird lyrics but this for me is what
makes them so unique and appealing. A lot of their videos I would
describe as quite trippy and I think I would follow this theme if I was to
create this music video.
My idea is to have it set in a large house with lots of rooms and in each
room there is a different colour theme, for example in one room it
might be entirely green and all the characters in the green room are
painting on big canvases in green paint then the next room might be
pink and everyone is on a the phone and painting their nails etc, then
the further we get into the song perhaps the different groups might
begin to mix and by the end of the song all the colours are mixed up.
I think this is a good way of representing diversity and people coming
together despite their differences. I took some inspiration from the video for
come over- the internet
Idea three
Fade into you- mazy star
My idea for this video was to have it stylized like a film taken on an old video
camera of a house party, people between 17-20 is and someone who’s maybe
drunk filming the whole thing in a first person perspective, kind of like the peep
show, we experience each thing as they do. So they might wonder into a room
and two people are getting it on or bump into someone older and they push you
about, kind of the reality of parties not the sugar coated house parties we see in
American movies.
The song will fit well because its quite depressing and I kind of want to reflect
the sadness the people in the video are really feeling and trying to forget by
drinking booze or doing drugs.
I think it will also show the raw emotions and difficulties of going from a
teenager 15/16 and being suddenly pushed into adult life and feeling the
pressures from society and what's expected of them. It shows that growing up is
scary and non of us know what we are doing, new experiences that aren't always
what they seem.
(I wont be using this idea as its not appropriate for this project)
Mind map of ideas
[summary of ideas]
Summary
5 strengths of your ideas you could use
1. They aren't simple, I would be challenging myself.
2. The concepts behind the ideas are strong so I could still use those to develop new ideas
even if I don’t use my original idea.
3. Each idea is very different so I have a good variety of ideas and genres of music.
4. Some of my ideas follow similar themes to the artists existing videos so they would link.
5. Some of my music and video ideas contrast really nicely and I think I will try include this in
my final plan.
5 weaknesses of you ideas
1. My ideas will require a lot of people to be in my video which may be difficult to find
especially if they are reliable and at short notice.
2. My ideas also require a lot of space like a big empty house which I don’t have access too.
3. Some o the props and costumes I would need would be hard to find to make it look
effective.
4. To pull of my ideas well they will probably require a higher budget but I have no money.
5. We only have a week to film and my ideas would probably require more time to film and
edit as they are more complex.

Songbird video- https://youtu.be/9YU94V1q4c8
[Verse 1]
Talking to the songbird yesterday
Flew me to a place not far away
She's a little pilot in my mind
Singing songs of love to pass the time
Going to write a song so she can see
Give her all the love she gives to me
Talk of better days that have yet to come
Never felt this love from anyone
[Chorus]
She's not anyone
She's not anyone
She's not anyone
[Verse 2]
A man can never dream these kinds of things
Especially when she came and spread her wings
Whispered in my ear the things I'd like
Then she flew away into the night
Going to write a song so she can see
Give her all the love she gives to me
Talk of better days that have yet to come
Never felt this love from anyone
[Chorus]
She's not anyone
She's not anyone
She's not anyone
Final idea – your idea
• Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your interpretation,
use of imagery or narrative, genre conventions, etc.]
The plan for my video is to film entirley in fist person and
potentially have the entire video in black and white. i want to do it
in the style of a home movie so it feels more emotional. I think the
song is very heart felt and personal. Its talking directly about one
individual so I will reflect that in my video by having one actor that
will be filmed so all attention is on her. I want to reflect the lust and
excitement of your first love and really capture how raw each
emotion is through this film. I feel like stripping it to black and
white not only gives the impression its older and stulised, but it
focuses the attention on my actor because theres no pretty colours
its all eyes on her and she is the center of attention, the focus point
of each shot to show how the person filming is only watching her.
Final idea – techniques and styles
• Video techniques/style/conventions to be used [include how you
intend to implement these]
I want my video to be in the style of an old fashioned home movie. The song I've
chosen is a love song so I want to make sure I reflect all that emotion and passion
through my video. I want it to be quite elegant but also sort of reckless, showing the
relationship between a young couple. I will be only filming my one actor the whole
time so the video will be as if the partner is filming them to document ‘favourite
memories’
I think so stylise the video in the way I want, a lot of editing will be needed in
premier and after effects to made the video to appear flickery and old. I think I will
actually film my shots in black and white but the downside to that is if I change my
mind later on I only have them in b&w. I think its important that im aware how each
shot looks in b&w especially because the lighting massivley effects the contrast and
I want all my shots to be clear.
Summary
5 strengths of your ideas you could use
• Its very realistic, I have the recourses, the actor and I can access the locations I
have chosen.
• It appeals to a larger audience
• My idea fits really nicely with the song and the lyrics, I think it reflects the
emotions behind the song.
• The video and song will link.
• The style is unique and personal.
5 weaknesses of you ideas
• Its quite simple, it wont be challenging me or lead me to experiment with
more complex ideas/shots.
• Its relying on one actor so if they cancel I don’t have a back up idea.
• Bad weather could make it hard to film.
• If filmed in b&w you cant change your mind on the colours after filming.
Potential research targets
Location-
I think most of my filming will be done outside around york although I would quite
like to take some shots at the beach (whitby/bridlington) because its quite
dramatic but also romantic which are important elements of my video. I would
also like to perhaps do some shots in a café that reflect a more cosy/ warm mood.
Techniques-
I will try and do some interesting transitions between shots
(have her go to grab the camera/ push it away then transition to the next shot of
her pulling away from the camera)
Resources-
i think I will probably film on my iphone but depending on how my practice
experiment shots go I might use my sony cybershot camera because the quality
might be better.
