2. The Theme Of Family In Frankenstein
The story of Frankenstein is one that focuses mainly on the idea of losing touch with the reality of
what is family and love whilst in the pursuit of knowledge. This can initially be experienced in the
beginning of the novel in the letters Walton sends to his sister Margaret Saville. In this case, Walton,
in search of a passage to the Pacific, risks his life without much regard for how his sister may feel.
During his voyage Walton eventually gets into a situation, being trapped in the ice, that jeopardizes
not only his main objective to find the passage, but the relationships he has at home, specifically his
sister. Much like Walton, Victor comes upon a fascination of his own, the natural world. This
fascination, rather an obsession, is the beginning of the end for Victor as it begins to alienate the
character from his loved ones. These types of obsessions can lead someone to lose touch with the
importance of family since they no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By this I mean that at the beginning, much like Walton and Victor, the monster had high hopes of
finding what he truly desired and later found that it was much harder achieved and that things would
not work out quite as planned. This is intriguing because it seems to be one of the central points of the
story, which is that in search of something we truly desire, whether it be adventurous, scientific, or
emotional in nature, can be detrimental to the relationship of family even if it is a family you are
looking for. For example, in the case of the monster, the way in which he reacted in hopes of
potentially getting Victor to create him a mate led Victor to believe that it would be trouble to create a
partner for him. This, in a sense, is what took away the possibility of the monster ever finding either
another creation or human being to

5. Cole Forgiven In Touching Spirit Bear
Being forgiven means to be accepted by those you ve wronged. Forgiving doesn t mean you forget. In
Ben Mikaelsen s Touching Spirit Bear, Cole must not only be forgiven by Peter but also, he must
forgive himself. In the end of the novel, Cole has repaid his debt. He should be forgiven Cole should
be forgiven because he has changed after his mauling. After being mauled and viewing a near death
experience, Cole decided it was time to throw in the towel. In the beginning, Cole thought being
mauled was a chance to show dominance against others. Cole thought that if he had survived he would
bring the white locks of the bear s hair back as a symbol of dominance, it was undermining, and so
meaningless it made me sick. An important stage in Cole s transformation from being his old self to
his new self is when he was in the hospital on the island, Garvey and Edwin didn t believe he got
mauled and they asked for evidence. Cole had the locks of hair in his pocket, but he had a what if
moment, if he had shown them the hair they would realize that he tried to attack the bear too, if he
didn t, well we would be in this position right now. Another important stage in Cole s change and why
he should be forgiven is the baby sparrows. As Cole was watching his body decay he saw these baby
sparrows and quoted, Even in death, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cole hasn t repaid his debt because it took him two trips to the island to finally succeed his trial.
Another reason why Cole shouldn t be forgiven is because when he first got to the island, Garvey and
Edwin were explaining the Spirit Bear, Cole said that he would kill the Spirit Bear. Also, when Cole
was getting mauled he shouted that he was vulnerable at the bear. Cole wanted us to think he had
enough and that he was ready to change, but really he just wanted the attack to stop. All of these
examples may show that Cole shouldn t be forgiven, however, in the end, Cole has repaid his debt and

6. East-West Schism Research Paper
The Great Schism of 1054, also called the East West Schism, divided the church into the Eastern
Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church. The split did not just occur randomly; it was a
series of long tensions that had been brewing for years. When the tensions reached the climax in 1054,
Pope Leo IX sent delegates to the ecumenical patriarch, Michael Cerulias, and excommunicated him
and his associates. In return, Michael excommunicated the Pope and his delegates too. The split was
done and there would be no coming back. The Schism of 1054 resulted from an amalgam of issues
and conflicts between the Catholic and East Orthodox Church for six centuries; the result was a wide
split between the two churches.

Mediterranean world. Many people began to convert to the Islamic religion. This scared the Catholics

as possible to enlarge their following. This caused great conflict between the members of both
churches. Each church gained their own spheres of influence. Catholicism taking up much of Western
Europe and the western and northern areas of the Mediterranean. The Eastern Church took up Asia
Minor, the Middle East, and Northern Africa. This caused a further divide and made the people
completely split apart into almost two huge countries. In 800, The Catholic Church crowned
Charlemagne as king of the Holy Roman Empire . This split the country into the West, which
constituted of the Catholic Church and its followers, and the East, which constituted of the Eastern
Orthodox Church and its members. The Eastern Church refused this title and challenged saying the
Catholic Church saying that they could not take a vast area of land and suddenly name it an empire.

7. My Writing And Writing Skills
Throughout the years, my reading and writing skills were never my best aspect growing up as a kid. I
always felt that I would never need to learn how to write and read because I wanted to become a
superhero when I grew up, and I thought superheroes don t need to learn that type of stuff because
they just save people from the bad guys. As I grew older I knew my dream of flying around and
fighting crime wasn t an option, so I started read and write, which mostly started in kindergarten. I
knew it wasn t something I would enjoy doing but it was part everyday life. Writing papers isn t
something I want to do for a living, but I know it s something everyone must learn to get better at.
I knew my writing skills were never great because I never put in any thought into the papers I just
wrote them as fast as I can and didn t care about the outcome as long as finished it. During my first
month in high school I typed my first paper for my English class, and thinking I would get B I got a D.
I went to ask my teacher what was wrong with the paper and she said that the paper didn t have
transition, I made grammar mistakes, and I didn t follow the right format of: introduction, body, and
conclusion.
That s when I started to realize that I would need to change my format since it wouldn t be successful
in high school. As high school progressed I started to get a little better, but I was still struggling in
other of aspects of my writing. So I started preparing outlines for my paper s,

8. Analysis and Evaluation of the Types of Emotion Essay
Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis and evaluation of the Types of Emotion from the
scientific/empirical and Islamic perspectives. The paper presumes that the readers are familiar with the
content of the topic in question based on the introductory Psychology textbook by Ciccarelli and
White (2010). Therefore, this paper will focus more the analysis and evaluation, rather than the
description and details of the topic.
Types of Emotion
An emotion is experienced as a feeling that motivates, organizes, and guides perception, thought, and
action (Izard, 1991). Emotions can be classified into three major categories which are: (1) the
physiology of emotion, (2) the behaviour of emotion, and (3) the subjective ... Show more content on

However, in 1991, Izard stated that despite the genetically based mechanisms for the fundamental
emotions, experience can modify aspects of emotion. A person is capable of learning to inhibit or
modify the innate emotional expressions.
In the book Psychology of Emotions, Izard (1991) stated that the mechanism of basic emotions can be
modified through experience despite being genetically based. Innate emotional expressions can be
inhibited or modified by the person. For instance, anger expression involves baring one s teeth to
prepare oneself in an action of biting. However, many people clinch their teeth and compress their lips
instead. This can be seen as a mean of adapting the expression of emotion depending on the context.
This adaptation can occur for several reasons such as fear or respect.
The prophet s.a.w. said: He who does not show mercy to our little ones or recognize the rights of our
elders is not one of us (narrated by Ahmad and Tirmizi). The prophet s.a.w explicitly denounced any
who disrespects the elders from the brotherhood of the Muslim community. A firm believer and
practitioner of Islam would adhere to this hadith and control any undesirable emotional expressions
that would be regarded as

9. The Philosophy And Medicine Collide
In a lot of events, to understand them and make a decision whether the situation is right or wrong, one
has to look at each individual. Not everyone thinks a like nor share the same virtues and ethics.
According to the research and medicine collide in Haiti there are three points of view ill come across.
First will be a Utilitarian guiding me about the ethics in this event, then there s a Kantian helping, and
finally ill speak upon this event to depict if there ethics involved.
A Utilitarian is a person who relates to the idea that usefulness is more important than beauty, a person
that takes action based on what will bring the most happiness for everyone. So relating to this event a
Utilitarian would consider Cornell research to be ethical. Since the main focus in the event is to bring
happiness to everyone, the Utilitarian strength in making their argument ethical is the fact that Cornell
is striving to find a cure. This could save millions even if in the act of killing hundreds. The only
weakness the Utilitarian has at this point is how Cornell preceded their research. In the process of their
research Utilitarians would have a hard time trying to defend Cornell, because there were some
unethical action occurring. One of these unethical action consisted of not warning the patients at risk
from contracting AIDS from unprotected sex. If Cornell would have mentioned this the patients would
have clear understanding what AIDS were and exactly why they were being tested. Another

10. Iron Jawed Angels Analysis
Iron Jawed Angels is a drama genre film, directed by Katja Von Garnier. It portrays and accurately
accounts the events that took place in the 1920 s during the suffragist movement lead by Alice Paul.
Paul works alongside her friend, Lucy Burns and many other activists in an attempt to gain the 19th
Amendment giving women the right to vote. Visual effects were used throughout the entirety of the
film to emphasise the theme of despair, which features. These effects include the montage and close
up shot in the opening scene, the quick cutting in the picketing scene, and the close up shot and
lighting in the force feeding scene.
The opening scene features visual effects in order to emphasise the theme of despair in the film.
Initially we are introduced to the character of Alice Paul with a long shot of her on a swing. The shot
appears as a horror film, setting off a daunting tone. We are then eventually displayed with a montage
of flash forwards and flash backs into Alice s future and past. A close up is used of Alice s eye, which
appears fearful and exhausted, blood shot and struggling to remain open. This sets an initial sense of
despair. Following this the montage features sped up passing storm clouds to foreshadow the darkness
and despair to come. These editing techniques were used by Garnier to convey the theme of despair in
the film by allowing little easing into the situation. In relation to the wider world, although this theme
of despair was being emphasised by these

12. Environmental Issues In Madagascar Essay
Environmental issues exist in Madagascar because of the problems that our society composes. Worst
of all, Madagascar continues to face an economic depression and as well as losing the land that
animals use to roam freely. Many countries around the world depend on the island s significant natural
resources. Sadly with a blink of an eye, the beauty of the island disappears without anyone taking
charge. Karin Brulliard exposes the problems in Madagascar with a statement throughout her
narration:
Years of deforestation and slash and burn agriculture left just 10 percent of Madagascar s original
vegetation and protecting what remains is an urgent concern of international conservation groups. That
effort has made great strides in the past three decades, they say, through programs to expand protected
areas and encourage sustainable farming (Brulliard).
Despite the fact that citizens in Madagascar are destitute and need the forest s resources, citizens of
Madagascar have caused the destruction of their homeland through their irresponsible farming
practices and illegal trades. Although deforestation has occurred for hundreds of years, the number of
cases in which forests have vanished has increased. When the forest is being cut down dramatically,
the habitats of many animals are being taken away, making it harder for animals to stay alive. For
example, the disappearance of the forest has led to 90 percent of the lemurs being endangered. Even

1812, with President Madison in office, Congress declared war against the British. There were many
causes of the war including British attempts to restrict U.S. trade, the Royal Navy s impressment of
American seamen and America s desire to expand its territory. The United States suffered from many
costly defeats from the hands of the British, Canadian and Native American troops over the course of

The Beginnings of a National Literary Tradition
Canadians throughout their history have been concerned over the status of their national literature.
One of the major problems facing early Canadian writers was that the language and poetic
conventions that they had inherited from the Old World were inadequate for the new scenery and
conditions in which they now found themselves. Writers such as Susanna Moodie, Samuel Hearne,
and
Oliver Goldsmith were what I would consider Immigrant authors. Even though they were writing in
Canada about Canada their style and their audiences were primarily England and Europe. These
authors wrote from an Old World perspective and therefore were not truly Canadian authors. It took a

Lampman signaled the move from the Immigrant authors like Moodie and her counterparts toward a
true and distinct Canadian literary movement. It is important to note that in order to appreciate the
quality of 19th Century Canadian literature, an effort of sympathy and a leap of imagination are both
needed because it is here in the 19th Century that our nations true poetic history begins. In early
Canadian poetry the most influential and universal poet is undoubtedly Archibald Lampman. While
his career, like his life, were short lived his poetry remains as a reminder to the origins of Canadian
literary thought. Lampman was one of our first major literary figures to try and identify a national
literature. He realized the importance of having a specifically Canadian literary tradition. An important
stepping point in
Lampman s career came after he read the work Orion by Charles G.D. Roberts.
Lampman describes his over powering emotion when as a youth he came across this published
work(in the quote on the title page). The importance of having this distinct literary school was a
driving inspiration in his art. Lampman is regarded as the most talented of The Confederation Poets (
W.J. Keith 18). It is amazing that this unspectacular man could have such a profound effect on the
evolution of Canadian literary tradition. His upbringing was in a very conservative environment as

22. Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy s Adgural Address
John F. Kennedy s inaugural address was a carefully composed speech, that conveyed the primary
goals of the incoming president in a convincing way. It is important for the president to have a strong
inaugural address, because it informs the people of one s intentions as president. In order for President
Kennedy s address to be effective, he uses rhetorical strategies. Through the use of rhetorical
strategies, President Kennedy supports his objectives with reason and logic to appeal to the people s
desire for security and structure. He also alludes to his good character to make the people feel safe and
trust him to guide them. In the address, President Kennedy uses emotion to make a connection with
the people, this makes him seem more relatable and connected to the people. These are strategies used
in an attempt to persuade the audience to trust President Kennedy. In President Kennedy s inaugural
address, he convincingly conveys his message to his audience, through the use of rhetorical devices.
The use of anaphoras allow President Kennedy to stress his message by repeating a word at the
beginning of successive clauses. This helps to emphasize his point to the audience. For example,
President Kennedy uses an anaphora to express the importance of bringing both sides together, and
having them work together for the benefit of the country and its citizens. Let both sides explore what
problems unite us instead of belaboring those problems which divide us. Let both sides, for the first
time, formulate serious and precise proposals for the inspection and control of arms and bring the
absolute power to destroy other nations under the absolute control of all nations. Let both sides seek to
invoke the wonders of science instead of its terrors (Address). Kennedy also starts a series of
paragraphs with To those. This allows Kennedy to personally address the people he will be working
with during his presidency, by making specific promises to them. It helps to create a personal bond
with citizens, and other countries. This is important because if people trust the President, the President
will be more likely to achieve his goals. As well as anaphoras, President Kennedy uses hyperphoria to
gain the trust

23. Motif Of Chaos Essay
According to the Webster dictionary , a motif is a dominant idea or literary feature. In the days of
mythological writing, it was not uncommon for many cultures to include similar ideas or morals.
These motifs are three of the main motifs that drew my attention: the motif of chaos, the reason for
more than one god, and why humans were put on earth.
Motif #1: An Explanation for Chaos There are many obvious motifs included in all the myths
discussed. One of the main motifs used in multiple myths was the explanation for chaos. Many
cultures believed that the chaos the gods put upon the people was retaliation of the actions. Another
theory is that the gods caused chaos to show their people that there would not always be all good, and
that good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one god to have to manage the world and care for its people would be a massive amount of
responsibility. As a result, many cultures had multiple creators. Inclusion to this motif would be that
these cultures thought that having multiple gods or leaders in charge would have a better outcome.
The cultures that believed in having shared responsibility were the Incas, the Mayans, and the
Maoriall. In the Inca creation myth, Pachacamac created his wife to help him rule the world. In the
Mayan creation myth, Tepeu and Gucumatz shared the responsibility of caring for the earth and its
people. In the Maori creation myth, Te PĹ came from Te Kore to help care for the earth.
Motif #3: Why humans were put on earth In most creation myths, humans were created to care for
earth. It is my opinion that so many cultures had humans created to care for the earth so that earth
could function. Humans were created to Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. In the
Christian Tradition myth, these are the words of God the creator himself. He created man to care for
the earth that He created. Women were made to be man s partner and man was made to care for the
earth or to be a slave for the

24. The Use Of Xylans And Xylanases Has Grown Remarkably
In recent years, the biotechnological use of xylans and xylanases has grown remarkably (Aristidou and
Pentillä 2000; Subramaniyan and Prema 2002; Beg et al., 2001; Techapun et al., 2003). The end
products of xylan degradation of considerable importance in commercial applications are furfural and
xylitol (Parajó et al., 1998). Xylan can be converted to β D xylopyranosyl and its oligosaccharides via
two types of hydrolysis: acid or enzymatic. Acid hydrolysis is often preferred because it is faster, but it
is accompanied by the formation of toxic compounds that may hinder subsequent microbial
fermentation. Furthermore, in the long run, it can lead to corrosion of the metallic equipment that
comes in contact with the acid. Recently, some industrial companies have shown interest in the
development of efficient enzymatic processes to be used instead of acid hydrolysis in the treatment of
material containing hemicellulose. Commercial xylanases are industrially produced, for example, in
Japan, Finland, Germany, Republic of Ireland, Denmark, Canada and the USA. The microorganisms
used to obtain these enzymes are Aspergillus niger, Trichoderma sp. and Humicola insolens.
Nevertheless, commercial xylanases can also be obtained from bacteria. Xylanase began to be used in
the 1980s: initially in the preparation of animal feed and later in the food, textile and paper industries.
Currently, xylanase and cellulase, together with pectinases, account for 20% of the world enzyme
market.

25. Construct Validity Research
The above examples provide evidence that a personality measurement can be examined through its
reliability. A good personality test should have the same findings in different occasions (i.e. test retest
reliability) and also all of the items in the test should be measuring the same thing (i.e. internal
consistency). Nevertheless, personality measurement can be evaluated by its validity as well.
Construct validity is one of the main subtypes of validity. Construct validity refers to the ability that a
personality test measures what it is intended to measure. Discriminant validity is a subtype of
construct validity, which refers to the extent that the concept that is not related to the test doesn t
emerge in the test. Soto, C. J., John, O. P. (2009) tested the discriminant validity by comparing the BFI
with the NEO PI R. They showed that the correlation between the BFI and NEO PI R facet scales has
high discriminant validity. Each BFI facet scales correlated most with the corresponding NEO PI R
facet scales than with the other NEO PI R facet. This research demonstrated that BFI is discriminant
valid because it only correlates most with the corresponding items on the NEO PI R. Furthermore,
McCrae and Costa, P. T. (2004) found that NEO Five Factory Inventory (NEO FFI) had high ... Show

Energy:
The Shard uses a CHP (combined heat and power) plant, which provides 1.131MW of electricity and
1.199MW of hot water at high efficiency to the surrounding area. The CHP system utilises waste heat
for heating and hot water. This system reduces carbon emissions and also contributes to low carbon
footprint of building. The Shards consumption will be more than 30% less than other comparable
buildings. There are significant cost savings for CHP versus separate purchase of electricity and gas
from national grid. This is an imperative factor, as for running such a large and dominant building in
the City of London it is essential that costs are kept to minimum to avoid corruption. It is also
recognisably a more healthy and efficient option for the environment.

The need for air conditioning in the Shard to eliminate an excessively heated environment from solar
energy is removed by computer controlled blinds. As extra white glass is used the G value is 0.55,
meaning 55% of the solar heat gets transmitted inside the building. This isn t appropriate for the
public as they ll suffer from the heat. However, with the blinds down there is 5% light transmittance

27. On Wenlock Edge Poem Analysis
Evaluate the use of melody, rhythm and texture in creating an effective setting of the poems by A.E
Housman in On Wenlock Edge by Vaughan Williams.
On Wenlock Edge is a song cycle of six pieces by Vaughan Williams, set to words from A.E Housman
s collection of poems A Shropshire lad . Having studied music with the likes of Ravel, Williams was
very aware of the impressionist movement (particularly in France) that was in full swing at the
beginning of the 20th century he also spent much of his life travelling around England, collection folk
songs (particularly those of the Tudor period). These influences are distinctly heard in On Wenlock
Edge . Put simply, the poems that make up A Shropshire Lad depict country life, however ... Show

The melodies in these pieces also have been used to attain a sense of immersion in the English
countryside, a place where Williams folk songs would have been found. The recitative style melodic
line at the beginning of Is My Team Ploughing? contributes to this feeling as it was written in D
Dorian mode, a particular scale that is very recognisable from it s use in traditional folk songs. A
famous example of this is Greensleves, a traditional Elizabethan folk song written in Dorian mode,
which, like in Williams song, has a very distinctive feel to it.
In the poem that On Wenlock Edge is set to, Housman presents a landscape that is under torment in a
heavy storm, with strong winds. With resources that are not suited to create such an effect (a string
quartet, piano and voice), Williams relies on other composition methods to set the text truthfully. At
the beginning, the strings and piano play triplets and sextuplets, with the strings using tremolo. The
rhythms are often used to present a constant movement, or fluidity in the music, as is used to represent
the wind, with the tremolo adding a slightly frantic, unpredictability to it. At the time that the pieces
were written, programme music had recently become a popular style of composing, particularly shown
by BedĹich Smetana, whose work Ma Vlast was published in 1872. The piece Vltava from this
describes the journey of the river

books have a lot of similarities, but the thing that separates them is that their differences. They differ
by three simple questions, the first question is what the main character fears. The second question is
why does the government fear change? The third and final question is what is going to happen to the
peoples who push the change that the government fears? In 1984, the main character, Winston
becomes aware of the past of how the party came into the party and he tries to stop the party from
having any more power. In Anthem the main character, named Equality, creates an invention known as
the light bulb and he gets shut down for his invention and he gets cast out. The main character in both
books has to be afraid of something due to the fact that they are always being watched, but in different

were admirable, they were sought after at the expense of the Aztecs and consequently changed an
entire civilization, due to an initial drive for power, control, land, and money. Cortez along with the

to inquire about Montezuma, he contemplated fleeing and escaping the gods . Due to Montezuma s

31. Effects Of Eugenics
In the Early 20th century the Eugenics movement was a popular one, taking root in all facets of
civilization. Darwin s theories of evolution had been a starting point for many in the scientific
community to form what is known as Eugenics. The fear of the inferior, being considered weak, and
immigration caused many to grasp onto eugenics as gospel. Eugenics was so deep seeded at this point
it was embraced by scientists, politicians, as well as being a curriculum taught in schools. America had
become the dumping ground for many of the unfit from other countries. This caused America to
enforce stricter laws, tests, and punishments such as sterilization. During this time, a man by the name
of Adolf Hitler was about to commit the biggest crime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

out their eugenics experiments which were broken into 2 parts, positive and negative eugenics. The
positive part focused on increasing the population of the pure race, or Aryans. The negative part was
meant to stop the breeding of the unfit, or those that didn t fit the profile, through sterilization and

protection, using the four headings of a PEST analysis: political, economic, social and technological.
Where such influences have more than one dimension, they are considered under the heading that is
considered to be the most relevant.
POLITICAL FACTORS
The Terrorist Threat
Precautions against terrorist attacks have been stepped up since the events of 11th September 2001,
and there is strong demand for security services and equipment in the public sector. The UK, and
especially London, has been on a high level of alert since the war in Iraq. Some of the UK s export

Neighbourhood Wardens provide a uniformed, semi official presence in residential areas, with the aim
of improving the local quality of life. They can provide community safety and assist with
environmental improvements and housing management. Street Wardens are similar to Neighbourhood
Wardens, but they have a greater emphasis on environmental problems, such as litter, graffiti and dog
fouling. Their role is also to deter anti social behaviour, to reduce the fear of crime and to foster social
inclusion.
Minimum Wage and Working Time Legislation
The National Minimum Wage was introduced in April 1999, and a European
Directive on working hours and holidays came into force in October 1998.
The UK was able to introduce a voluntary opt out of the 48 hour week, but the UK regulations are to
be tightened and opinions seem to be divided as to whether this is to the long term benefit or detriment
of the guarding sector.
Outsourcing of Police and Public Sector Security Work

33. Prednisolone Is Chemically Known As A Corticosteroid
Prednisolone is chemically known as a corticosteroid which is a steroid hormones (DIAAIC). The
corticosteroids are produced in the adrenal cortex and come in two forms; glucocorticoids and
mineralocorticoids. The two forms differ in that glucocorticoids act as anti inflammatory steroids and
as a metabolising agent. The mineralocorticoids however, work to maintain a balance between the
water and salt levels in the body. Prednisolone is used to treat inflammatory diseases and is therefore
known as a synthetic glucocorticosteroid . Steroids work by reducing swelling and inflammation
(DIAAIC).

through the reaction of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the pharmacokinetics aspect, prednisolone is mainly dependent on two characteristics; dosage and
age. Based on how the drug is bound in the plasma, the distribution of the drug can be determined. A
high dosage of prednisolone leads to an increase in the volume of distributed drug. This is due to the
non linear binding of the drug. It is recommended for patients with other disorders to lower their
dosage intake of prednisolone (LinkSpringer). The half life of prednisolone differs in accordance to
age; the half life in children being the shortest. A common issue with patients who take prednisolone
drugs is that the levels of serum binding proteins are low in the patients blood. This is known as
hypoalbuminaemia. The serum binding proteins are important in that they allow the drug to bind for it
to take effect. If a patient were to take oral contraceptives whilst on the prednisolone drugs, it would
decrease the half life and the volume of drug distributed. This would be as a result of high levels of
corticosteroids (LinkSpringer).
Side Effects and counselling
When a patient is prescribed with prednisolone, they must ensure that the prescriber is aware of any
other medications the patient may be taking and of other health issues, if any. This is because different
drugs work in different ways and so to ensure the prednisolone works effectively, the patient

34. Role of Mobile Computing in Healthcare Management
Mobile Computing in Healthcare Management Technology changes everyday. We blink our eyes for a
second, and it has advanced to far beyond our wildest dreams. Thus, every aspect of our lives is also
being impacted by these advances in technology, including how we care for our bodies and our overall
well being. Technology has long played a crucial role in healthcare management strategies, but today s
industry is seeing drastic changes in how it uses mobile computing devices. The use of mobile devices
is revolutionizing the modern healthcare industry, having the huge benefits of efficiency, cost
reductions, and patient empowerment; yet, still these devices are now bringing up new security
concerns for the protection of sensitive patient data. The use of mobile devices in healthcare has really
taken off. When once healthcare practitioners were limited to time consuming written record keeping
or clunky and out dated computers on heavy carts, health service providers and medical vendors are
finding new and innovative ways in which to use this new platform to better support patient care
(HIMSS 2011 p 3). Heavy duty lap tops are a staple feature in most healthcare facilities. They give
healthcare workers the speed they want coupled with the durability the need in a chaotic healthcare
setting (Brown 2010). These durable laptops are often a primary choice for systems that are sent home
with patients because they are more practical to use than other mobile devices, like tablets,

38. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Epilepsy
Business Understanding
According to World Health Organisation (2017), around 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy.
Unfortunately, epilepsy cannot be cured, but could be controlled by pharmacological or electrical
treatment based on seizure prediction (Moghim Corne, 2014). Since EEG has advantages such as
speed, high time resolution and non invasive natures, it maintains one of the most frequently used
tools in predicting epilepsy (Hasan et al. 2017).
Electroencephalography (EEG) has a broad use in both medical practices and medical research for
diagnosing and identifying epileptic seizures, syncope (fainting), cognitive psychologies, and
psychophysiological research (Niedermever, 2004). Commonly used in identifying epilepsy, the EEG
helps the doctors to distinguish types of seizures, the reasons to trigger the seizures and also the
treatment needed. Types of EEG are different according to test aims, facilities, medical and patients
situations, and are generally separated into 4 types: Routine EEG, Sleep EEG, Ambulatory EEG and
Video EEG. All of the types would record electrical activities of the brain, investigate their potential
fluctuations and brain waves, and perform analysis to convert the data into useful information in
identifying the seizures. Usually, the EEG test will last for 20 to 40 minutes, and will be conducted by
attaching scalp with the electrodes which are connected to an EEG recording machine (NHS, 2017).
There are three main cases to be solved in this project. First is to identify whether an EEG showing
seizure or not. Second is to identify the 5 categories of EEG. Third is to identify the classification of
EEG, whether it is indicating healthy brain activity, potential epileptic seizure or actual epileptic
seizure.
Data Understanding
