The Doctrine of Discovery was a concept used to further colonization and strip land from the
indigenous people. According to Class 7 Lecture, it allowed colonial powers to colonize the land that
they discovered even if indigenous people already lived there. The doctrine provides title to the nation
making the discovery of the land even if the soil is inhabited by natives. Provided the land excluded
European sovereign . When European powers establish rule in what is now the United States the
government was given the ownership of the lands until they felt the need use of the land. The Indians
currently residing in the lands were just inhabitants. The doctrine set for by Chief Justice Marshall was
set forth to mimic colonial powers and prevent further European expansion on U.S. soils. Following
the Johnson v McIntosh case, it established a preventive measure of Indians and Indian tribes from
selling the land to anyone but the United States government. This was to prevent European colonies to

How do the attitudes and actions of different groups vary towards Global Warming around the world?
Over the years, global warming has gradually become a more renowned and controversial topic, some
say Global warming has been incited by human activity, so humans should take action to slow down
global warming, others say global warming happens naturally so there s no use of stopping it, while

As another country that is just as endangered, Maldives is famous for its sinking land due to sea levels
rising and glaciers melting from global warming. Some scientists have even hypothesized that 77% of
Maldives will be gone by the end of the century, based the pace of the sea levels rising 0.8 1.6

education of populations. People need to know the dangers and what they can do to avoid them. In
Florida, evacuation routes have been prepared and cyclone shelters are clearly signed and posted.

On August 4, 1892 at 92 Second Street in Fall River Massachusetts, stepmom Abby and father,
Andrew Borden were slaughtered by an axe in their home ( The Trial of Lizzie Borden ). Lizzie s
biological mother died in 1862, and her father Andrew remarried the spinstress, Abby Durfee Gray.
Since it was a stepmother to be murdered, it raised the question as to if Lizzie really liked her
stepmother. Abby s body was in the guest room, murdered an hour before Andrew, who was on a sofa.
Lizzie, their daughter, was first suspected then convicted based on the evidence. A year later she was

Three days later, on August 9th, Lizzie started to be questioned in the courtroom over police
headquarters. During the first four hours of the examination Lizzie gave confusing and contradicting
information pertaining to where she was and what she was doing. Two days later, on August 11th,
Lizzie was read her rights and arrested by Chief Hillard for the murder of her parents. The following
day Lizzie made a plea of not guilty to the charges against her before being transported by rail car to a
jail located in Taunton, an area located eight miles from Fall River. August 22nd Lizzie was returned
to the Fall River courtroom for her preliminary hearing, after a criminal complaint has been filed by
the prosecutor, next is to determine whether there is enough evidence to require a trial. At the end of
the hearing, Judge Josiah Blaisdell pronounced Lizzie as probably guilty and ordered her to face a
grand jury. From November 15th to the 21st Lizzie faced the grand jury to plead not guilty. It wasn t
until December first, that a testimony was made against Lizzie by a friend of the families. Alex
Russell appeared before the grand jury to make his statement about the blue dress he saw Lizzie burn.
Lizzie responded with the fact that the dress was covered in old paint. The question then is, why was
she burning it the day of the murders? The statement from Russell matched with an earlier testimony
made by Bridget, she claimed Lizzie was wearing a blue dress the morning of the murders. Since both
testimonies matched, it was enough evidence to convince the jury to indict, formally accuse of or
charge with a serious crime, Lizzie for the murder of her parents. On June 5th, 1893 Andrew Jennings
and George Robinson represented the defendant while Knowlton and Thomas Moody argued the case

Violence in media is not a recent development. Prior to television, citizens across the country glued
themselves to the radio listening to the broadcast of popular crime dramas. Before radio, books and
newsprint fulfilled society s craving for dramatic violence. Prior to the days of technology, live stage
performances served to sate man s desire for thrills. With the recent advent of technology along with
an ever increasing human desire for blood pumping entertainment, children now are much more
exposed to media violence than ever before. Gauthier, Zuromski and Gitter write, Media coverage of
violent killings (e.g., the Columbine High School shooting in 1999) has cited the potential role of
violent media exposure in fostering aggressive behavior, especially because some of the perpetrators
have a history of violent media consumption (513). Children spend hours on end watching television
shows and movies filled with violence or playing video games where they can play the role of a
character and act out the violence themselves. This can lead to children eventually playing out these
fantasies in real life or, more likely, not reacting humanely in the face of violence. Overindulged by
the violence in media and video games, children are losing the capacity for compassion and
developing the capacity to harm others without feeling guilt for their actions. To help curb these
