How Did Woodrow Wilson s 14 Point Plan
President Woodrow Wilson addressed Congress with a proposed 14 point plan before the end of World
War I. The President did not want to fight in the war only to protect England and France, instead he
wanted to end all wars. These fourteen points were made specifically to provide peace that would last
forever and prevent another World War from happening. Wilson plan was to create peace throughout
the world with his fourteen point system; however, after discussing with the other Allied powers it
became evident that his 14 point plan would not be put into action without a lot of compromising. The
allied powers did not agree with Wilson s idealism of world peace. British Prime Minister, David
Lloyd George, French Premier, George Clemenceau and US President, Woodrow Wilson, also known
as the Big Three met with each other on a daily basis to discuss the treaty. After ... Show more content

Germany was treated harshly by the decisions negotiated by the Allied Powers. The United States did
not want harsh treatment for Germany. France wanted an extremely harsh treaty for Germany simply
because they wanted them to pay for everything they had done to France. The British Prime Minister
did not want to be too harsh on Germany, but his nation did. So, he agreed for a harsh treaty because
he was afraid of causing another war in the future. Ultimately, all the nations associated with this
peace treated came to the conference with different aims. Each country had suffered differently in the
war; therefor, their desires were dictated by the extent of their suffering. Ultimately, the Treaty of
Versailles was created to make Germany obligated to pay for the damage they caused in the war, give
up their colonies and its armed forces. The treaty also abolished Germany s air forces and practically
redrew the map of Europe. This peace treaty was biased against Germany and caused anger and

Summary of the Hidden Persuaders by Vance Packard
| Book Summary and Critique: The Hidden Persuaders Summary of THE HIDDEN PERSUADERS
by Vance Packard 1. The Depth Approach. This book is about the large scale and sometimes
impressively successful efforts to use insights from psychiatry and the social sciences (and provided
all too willingly by cooperative psychologists and social scientists) to channel our unthinking habits,
our purchasing decisions, and our thought processes. The use of mass psychoanalysis to guide
campaigns of persuasion has become the basis of a multimillion dollar industry. Some of the
attempted manipulation is simply amusing. Some of it is disquieting, particularly when viewed us a
portent of more intensive and effective efforts that may lie ahead. ... Show more content on

Studies of narcissism indicated that nothing appeals more to people than themselves, so why not help
people buy products that were projections of themselves? The image builders reasoned that they could
thus spark love affairs by the millions, and the sale of self images soon was expediting the movement
of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of merchandise to consumers, particularly gasoline,
cigarettes, and automobiles. 6. Rx for Our Secret Distresses. The merchandisers concluded that
billions of dollars worth of sales depended heavily on successfully manipulating or coping with our
guilt, fears, anxieties, hostilities, loneliness, and inner tensions. Guilt proved to be one of the major
problems the motivational analysts had to grapple with, for though self indulgent and easy does it
products such as candy, soft drinks, cigarettes, liquor, cake mixes, and laborsaving appliances were
becoming a significant sector of the total market, Americans still were basically puritans at heart.
Therefore, the marketing of such products had to assuage guilt feelings and offer absolution. Cigarette
advertising began to reflect the insights of MR: people were shown smoking while under pressure or
as a reward for tough jobs done. Similarly, candy was marketed as a way to reward oneself, or, when
sold in bite sized pieces, as self indulgence in moderation. Household appliances were

The Crucifixion Analysis
The Crucifixion I chose to analyze The Crucifixion because it shows such passion, love, and
creativity. When I first saw The Crucifixion I was not quite able to make out what the picture was
showing. However, once I finally saw the image, I was absolutely astounded by what I saw. The colors
all played really well off of each other, complimented one another, and the picture became quite clear.
I feel that this picture completely describes my religion. My religion, to outsiders, may look like quite
a mess of feelings and emotions, but once they look at it with a different point of view, they are able to
clearly see the image of God. I also felt that the symbolism portrayed in this image truly inspiring.
Like I have stated before, the art appears ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the author wanted you to see Jesus suffering, His passion for His people, and His sadness in
humanity s decision to sin over and over and over again. His eyes appear to be closed with, again, just
show that He feels so much pain for His people, that He is suffering both physically and mentally. The
title of this piece of art, The Crucifixion, helps better set the scene for what is happening here. Jesus is
being crucified for being the son of God, for telling everyone that He is the savior who has come to
save us from all our own doom, and that He is the one who will open the gates of Heaven so that we
may enter. This image helps me better understand who Jesus was because His crucifixion was a major
part of His life as well as the end of His life until He rises from the dead. Without Him dying on the
cross, we would never be able to go to Heaven, as we would all go down to Hell for the gates of
Heaven would not be opened, and He would not be able to rise from the dead and reveal to us all that
He really is God. It makes you understand that, while being nailed to a cross, beaten, and whipped, is
not an ideal situation for anyone to go through, He loved, and still loves us, so much that He was
willing to go through one of the worst possible situations in order to be

Causes Of The Soviet Union
The first five year plan of the Soviet union was referred to the large scale and systematic socialist
construction of the Soviet communist party, which the government in order to get rid of the backward
agricultural country of the Soviet union from 1928 to 1932. The completion of the first five year plan
made the Soviet union began to change from an agricultural country to industrial country. The Soviet
union preliminary built independent relatively complete national economic system, laid the material
foundation for realizing the socialist industrialization. Since the new economic policies, the Soviet
economy basically recovered to its pre war level in 1925. But the modern industry of the Soviet union

In the history this is the first time the Soviet union appeared the tractor, aircraft manufacturing,
automotive, heavy machinery, precision instrument manufacturing, and other emerging industries. The
Soviet union s oil, tractors and combine harvesters came in second place in the world, Europe s first.
The Soviet Union has changed to an industrial country, but not an agricultural country that has lagged
behind for a long time. During the Soviet first five year plan, the economy grew at a faster pace than
any other capitalist country in the same period. The USSR makes the world full with admiration with
their 5 years plan. After Stalin s death, the Soviet leader Khrushchev denounced Stalin s purges and
the expulsion of minorities, lashed out at his policy bring the disaster of agricultural , also attacked his
incompetent military command, and in the last said to return to the route of marxism leninism. Much
of the abuse of power was done under Stalin s instructions, regardless of the party s guidelines and the
Soviet rule of law. Stalin was a man with a sick suspicion. When Stalin said that someone should be

The Impact Of Public Figures As A Role Models On Children
Do we want young teen girls living in a world where it s normal for boys to call them a fat piglet ?
Many famous celebrities act inappropriately in the public eye. Since they re so famous, if they do
anything that should be considered wrong, no one really thinks of it as a mistake. For example, if
someone at school hit, called someone an inappropriate name, everyone would make a big deal out of
it. However, if a popular basketball player hit his wife, it isn t published in news sources and showed
to the public as much as it should be. Furthermore, public figures being perceived as a role model
affects children in negative ways because they act inappropriately in the public eye, are violent, and
break laws. Many celebrities think it s okay to act improper in public because they re famous. Look at
the president of the United States, Donald Trump, he has social media and some of the things he says
and puts for everyone to see is a little much sometimes. There is a video of Trump in an interview a
couple years back calling Khloe Kardashian a fat piglet . If a teen girl saw that video one day and she
was insecure about her looks, that video isn t going to make her feel better about herself. Statistics
show in 2011 2013 there was 10.9 per 100,000 teens who committed suicide. A lot of those teens were
assumably insecure, feeling unaccepted in the world, dealing with depression, and felt like they were
alone in the world. Letting public figures say disrespectful and cruel words

Pros And Cons Of The Automobile Industry
The automobile industry is one of the most prosperous industries in the United States. For years, it had
a big impact on the American economy. But with the recession of 2007 2008, consumer spending
decreased and new car sales plunged (Davis, 2012). Big automobile firms like General Motors and
Chrysler were on the verge of bankruptcy (Davis, 2012). Luckily, the American government
intervened to rescue these firms through bailout money (Davis, 2012).
In 2010, the automobile industry in the United States employed more than 1.7 million people and
generated more than 8 million jobs (Menk Cooper, 2010). It is worth noting that the United States
currently houses 13 national and international auto manufacturers: General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, ...

Consumers nowadays make an informed decision before buying a vehicle, they go online, study the
pros and cons, they compare different options, and they make their purchase made on what they want
in terms of cost, size,... Although consumers are concerned about the environment, some of them tend
to buy large vehicles (like SUVs) that emit more air pollution than any other vehicles.
In conclusion, the automobile industry in the United States is a thriving industry. It would need to
move to more eco friendly options in the future to help tackle technology and changes.

Mountain Top Removal
Mountaintop Removal: Critical fuel source or environmental antagonists? Mountaintop Removal
mining is a very controversial environmental issue with many pros and cons on both sides of the
argument. I have found three different articles with three contrasting views in the sense that they are
from different geographic regions. The three articles are from the St. Petersburg Times, The
Washington Times, and The Guardian, which are located in Florida, Maryland, and London,
respectively. Despite the varying locations, the three articles shared many similarities in their articles.

Rubble from the blasted mountains, often containing toxic debris, is dumped into adjacent valleys to
form valley fills. Thus, creating an immediate cause of a problem. He also points out that there have
been reports of water contamination in towns surrounding mountaintop removal sites. Residents have
been reporting not even being able to drink their own water. This creates underlying causes of a
problem. According the article in the Washington Times by James E. Person Jr., the immediate causes
of the problem is the destruction of the wilderness to make room for these surface mines. This
destruction brings about water contamination, mountain soil erosion which could lead to future
landslides, and slurry impoundments in the river that endanger the lives of everyone downstream.
When it comes to underlying causes of the problem, Person points out that this pain and suffering will
only spread to more communities if a stand is not made soon. He sarcastically states, it is not
necessary to believe the area can or should be returned to Edenic purity to believe that turning the
Earth into a giant midden and an open sewer is a terrible thing, and taking a stand against the
destruction of human life and community is a good thing. Mark Tran, the writer from The Guardian,
writes that the immediate cause of the problems in West Virginia is politics. Mark writes, In the past

Community College Is A Little Out Of Place
One question that I am often asked after introducing myself is but why are you here though? For many
people that I ve talked to, the thought of a Wisconsinite moving to Michigan for community college
seems a little out of place. For most people, community college is something that is done before
moving to another state for college, not after. However, this was not the route I was destined to take,
and it payed of to be one of the best ones of my academic career, even if it does come of as a little
strange.
If there were one thing that shapes my identity the most, it would be my home. For most of my twenty

One possible beginning stems from my time spend at our said family cabin in the Northwoods of
Wisconsin. Where I could be found spending time reading an atlas for fun as the calming sounds of
crickets, and loons echoed in the distance. Besides my academic interests, many of my hobbies also
came into being there. Whether that be in the form of ukulele playing, reading, photography, or one of
my personal favorites trying new foods (especially of the ethnic variety), they all exist thanks in part
to America s dairyland. My passion for photography, for example, all began one summer day three
years ago when I picked up my Dad s Nikon camera, and began taking pictures as I hiked through our
forty acre property. This is a passion that continues to this day, and one that I am excited to pursue
more while I am here in Michigan. Which brings me to another part of my story, the move here itself.
My Dad was originally from the Jackson area, and for the longest time I had absolutely no idea where
that even was (well besides a rough geographical area from a finger pointing on to a spot on his palm.)
While I lived in Wisconsin, we barely had time to visit Michigan. Often times only visiting once every
few years, usually around easter. Before the move I barely even knew my relatives in Jackson, besides
the correspondence of a birthday letter, or the occasional phone call. This all changed, however, one
summer day when my Dad sat my sister

Naturalism And Naturalism
To start things off, both versions touched on the four traits in which naturalism convey. Those four
traits being heredity, passion, instinct, and environment. However, not all traits were expressed the
same, and not all traits had the same substance or background information within the stories. For
starters in Version A, each character was identified by their gender, but in Version B, the character had
an actual name. Version A suggests This fact did not worry the man (London 629). However, in
Version B it states In the Klondike, as Tom Vincent... (1). This goes against the whole basis of
naturalism. Naturalism is very raw and philosophical when it comes to identity. In the sense of not
caring for names. It ll rather identify something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, Version A had a little twist to it because unlike Version B, the man in Version A had a
dog to accompany him. The dog played a very pivotal role in this story. In Version A, you see the true
fashion of Eric Link s method of Scientific Naturalism. The story shows how the man was willing to
kill the dog, so that he could use the carcass to relieve his hands from the numbness. Version A stated
He remembered the tale of the man, caught in a blizzard, who killed a steer and crawled inside the
carcass, and so was saved (London 636). In other words, he was willing to take a life to save his own.
This is naturalism at its finest because in order to live, sometimes we have to do the unthinkable.
Survival of the fittest plays a crucial role in life or death situations. In addition to that, when it comes
to death in naturalism; we tend to have two choices. Either you accept defeat and die or you go out
swinging, and maybe just maybe you will live. In both stories, the men are about to freeze to death.
However, one begins to panic and accept his demise. While the other begins to think of a solution.
Version A states There were lots worse ways to die (London 638). This shows the pessimistic side of
the man in Version A. This goes hand to hand with Becker s definition of naturalism. Which touches
on the subjects of being hopeless. Version B states Burned hands are better than dead hands. No hands
at all were better than death (5). This shows the instinct of man

Fine Arts Funding
Funding in School Fine Art Programs
While many people believe that there are other programs worth funding for such as sports, schools
should increase the amount of funds that fine art programs receive. Not only is fine art a way to
express creativity and have fun, it also benefits students academic achievement, child mental health,
and child development.
To begin with, education and engagement in fine art programs are an essential part within the school
curriculum because subjects such as mathematics, science, and language arts all require cognitive and
creative capacities which are enhanced with the process of learning art. For instance, in the article,

Decision Making Biases
Decision making biases had a major impact on decisions made in the case. Decision making biases
played a key role in impacting critical decisions. BP and Transocean s approach are characteristic of
the garbage can model because of the existence of a complex interaction between four independent
streams of events (Kanicki Kreitz, 2010).
Overconfidence bias is extremely prevalent throughout the case study. Despite several anomalies, the
crew and managers of both companies are confident that a tragedy will never occur. Management and
supervisors at the frontline level held a macho man attitude (Kletz, 2010). This is visible through the
companies attitudes toward drilling the well. Arrogance contributed to the crew not following
procedures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is apparent due to decisions that are made concerning process, equipment, and safety. During the
drilling process more fluid was being removed than added. Instead of stopping the process, workers
continued labor. These decisions are affected by a salient opportunity to make money, political
motives, and oversight (Kanicki Kreitz, 2010). Also an escalation of commitment bias is present
which drives members of the company to continually place action into a bad situation hoping it will
get better (Kanicki Kreitz, 2010). Unfortunately for the Deepwater Horizon, the situation only got
worse. The tragedy could have been avoided if the crew and management had implemented evidence
based decision making rather than the Garbage Can Model of decision making.

Based on this policy analysis, the recommended alternative is for the federal government to educate
states on recognizing the importance of and participating in the quality early education programs.
Some states have already started making progress in modeling and developing early learning systems

upon Congress to establish a new, competitive Early Learning Challenge Fund, administered by the

the funding that is allocated to these programs should be used in recruiting and retaining high quality

Organic Law of Villager Committees
Village Election Law was pursued in the 1980s, enacted nationally since 1987 and after further
extended and revised. It becomes Organic Law of Villager Committees in the 1998. Village election is
part of village self governing, which appears in the 1982 revision of Article 111 of the Chinese
Constitution Law. Organic Law of Villager Committees confirms the absolute, multi candidate
election of village committees and is the milestone in the democratisation of China.
According to Article 11 of Organic Law of Villager Committees, villager committees are elected for a
term of three years and consist of committees director, committee s associate director and committee s
member. General elections are held every three years and the former Villager Committees would be

candidates requires three steps. First, the candidates should be nominated directly by the voters.
Second, candidates should be reviewed for qualification by villager election committees. Last, all
candidates would be published in the official list of candidates to inform the voters. These three steps
are under the organizing of the villager election committees. According to Article 121 of Organic Law

Food Stamps Argumentative Essay
Argumentative Essay In 2014, almost seventy billion dollars was spent on the food stamp program.
Some may say that s a significant amount of money compared to how much the United States owes in
debt. Therefore, there should be more restrictions on who qualifies to get food stamps, and also on
how long people can receive them. If people are unemployed, then they should have applied to at least
three different jobs before being able to apply for food stamps. If people do have a job, then of course
they must be making below poverty level to qualify. The only exceptions should be made to full time

The only reason for why a person receiving food stamps cannot pass a drug test, is because the drug
being used is for medical reasons only. If one must take the drug test and not pass, then a warning
shall be given, along with two extra drug tests given monthly. If the same person does not pass the
second time, food stamps should be cut by twenty percent; if they cannot pass the third test given,
stamps should be cut by an additional thirty percent. Finally, if the same person has failed four
consecutive drug test, or four within three months, food stamps should be cut out completely with a
four month penalty before reapplying. The last restriction that should be applied to food stamps is how
long you are able to continue receiving them. A student would be to receive stamps as long as they are
enrolled in school. A parent, or household with children, can receive food stamps for the child until
he/she has graduated, or turned eighteen if the child has dropped out of school. This prevents someone
from dropping out of high school, still living with a parent, and the parent receiving food stamps for a
twenty one year old. An adult with no children receiving food stamps should be able to reapply in six

about 12 jurors that in an uncomfortable room have to discuss a life and death case about a boy that is

interesting. In my opinion there were 3 main jurors in the jury room: Juror 8, Juror 3 and Juror 9. Juror
8 is important because he is smart, brave, and fair. Juror 3 was important because he was the

think the way he did, and lost his temper whenever they didn t. In addition, Juror 3 was also intolerant.
He didn t want to listen to anybody s opinions and in the discussion that he had with Juror 8 on page
147 in the book, it seemed that he personally wanted the kid to die.
Another very important juror in the jury room was Juror 9. Juror 9 was a fair man. He voted not guilty
because he had a reasonable doubt in his mind and he listened to everyone s opinions, Juror 9 was also
smart. He made a reasonable doubt by saying that the old man might of lied to get attention because
he noticed that he was a quiet, frightened, insignificant man who has probably never been nothing all
his life. He also remembered that the woman in the train had bifocals, and that she never took them
off. that made a reasonable doubt on everyone s mind because it would of been very hard for the

Analysis Of The Maze Runner
The novel, The Maze Runner, is about a 16 year old boy, named Thomas, who wakes up in a metal
box that seems to be moving. As the darkness in the box starts fading, Thomas realizes that he must be
in an elevator. He hears harsh sounds of chains and pulleys, which terrifies him on his way up. When
Thomas reaches the top, 2 guys named, Alby and Gally pull him out of the elevator and greet him.
This is where Thomas realizes that all of his memory was gone. Alby had told him that his name will
come back to him within three days, meanwhile, he was called Greenie. This nickname Greenie was
given to everyone who came up the elevator that did not remember their names. After, welcoming
Thomas, Alby handed him over to this young boy named Chuck. Chuck was responsible to take
Thomas for a walk and introduce him to the Glade. The Glade is an open area of land, which is located
in the center of the maze. This is where the Gladers are forced to live and hang out. Outside of the
Glade is the maze, which is full of huge walls and vines and is the only hope of escape for the Gladers.
During the day, the doors to the maze open up, which allow the runners to go out and find an exit.
However, during the night, the doors close and the Grievers come out, which are huge slugs, that
harass and kill anyone that is trapped in the maze. The next day, Thomas is told to go to the forest to
grab some fertilizer. He sees a guy, named Ben, aggressively staring right at him. Thomas asks Ben if
he is okay, but Ben s response was, it is all your fault, and then attacks him. Thomas quickly runs back
to the Glade, getting away from Ben. As Ben tackles Thomas, Newt strikes Ben in the head with a rod
and punishes Ben by throwing him in the maze for breaking one of the three rules. The rule that Ben
broke was harming another glader. The other two rules that the Glade follows are, doing your part and
never setting foot out in the maze. Alby decides to go and explore the maze with the captain of the
runners, Minho. It is now late at night and all the Gladers are frightened, the doors to the maze are
about to close, but Alby and Minho have not returned. The walls are now starting to close, Alby and
Minho are still no where to be seen. The Gladers

The Importance Of School Break
When I hear one say, specifically Roman Hebel, With school out of the picture, I can be stress free and
happy it evokes many questions and stress inside. How does one s stress disappear simply due to
school being put on the back burner? Yes, most homework responsibilities are not of concern, but our
school break is only nine days. With nine days, I don t believe that all individuals including himself
are duty and completely worry free. I don t know about most people, but merely because school is put
on hold does not relieve all the worries in the back of my mind. Those issues will always be their
haunting me and producing stress until they are resolved, and trust me I do not want to deal with them
over a well deserved break. However, this is all just apart of life whether we attempt to enjoy the free
time given to us or not. With that being said, the short interruption with school does not create a stress
free environment where I am allowed to enjoy myself. Whether it s the last minute Christmas baking,
gift wrapping or a cramped work schedule, I do not categorize that as a way to enjoy my break as
Roman makes clear in his paper. I find pleasure in the easy aspects such as the hour long naps and
drinking a steaming cup of hot cocoa by the blazing fire. I only wish to be like Roman over the break
when he expresses, ...having less responsibilities... in his paper. Because frankly those pleasures are
not a reality for myself this Christmas break. I don t know

Introduction and motivational theories
It is said that there is no such thing as failure, instead we have results. This was the idea that gave rise
to the start of a company and later shooting of this video, in the outskirts of Addis Ababa in Africa.
The video is about a shoe company called oliberte, which prides itself as the first company to be
offered a fair trade certification. The founder, Mr. Tal Dehtiar has appreciated and employed great
motivation methods in the growth of his company in a challenging environment (Oliberte, 2011).
Motivation s purpose is to initiate, guide and maintain goal oriented behaviors on the person that it is

The Age Of African American Literature
Wheatley was the first African American to have her work published and is known as the mother of
African American literature. Wheatley was brought into slavery and she was very fortunate to have
masters that allowed her to learn to read and write. In the 18th century, it was very rare to find an
African American who was educated and with Whitley being a female it was even more surprising.
Her vernacular was very broad and she was not timid about letting her voice be heard. In fact, you can
imagine the type of women she was by reading His Excellency General Washington. Whitley s poems
mostly consist of themes that revolved around Christianity, slavery and abstract ideas which were
based on her personal beliefs, experiences, and ideas. The belief that the power of poetry is
immeasurable was her inspiration while writing. After reading a few poems by Whitley I realized her
work is still relevant and by break down each piece of work I can find inspiration. Throughout this
paper I am going to analyze Wheatley works and also find was to see how her work relates to modern
times. The poem To S.M., a Young African Painter on Seeing His Work is one Wheatley less popular
pieces of work even though it contain a very inspiring message. The way she used detailed and
descriptive words in such an angelic ways was breath taking. Upon viewing the artist s work,
Wheatley was inspired and therefore wrote a poem about what she saw. The amount of enlightenment
that she absorbed is expressed

Research Paper On Wigwam Hotel
The Wigwam motel
A hint of yore, a touch of modern era and the nostalgic atmosphere at Wigwam motel, San Bernardino,
California makes it the perfect stop on route 66 for families, motorists and tourists alike. Built in 1947
at the start of auto camping craze, to aid locals and tourists that chose to travel via roads in automotive
rather than trains has had several glorious days of prosperity and fame. The wigwam motel is a classic
remnant of the bygone days of route 66 but it is still a go to place for those hoping to live and
experience the history and heritage.
Wigwam motel earned its name from the peculiar shape of its guest rooms. The tipi structure of each
individual unit was mistakenly called wigwam, and since the motel is a collection of these tipi shaped
units, wigwam motels are often referred to as the wigwam village. Though the motel is physically

Wireless Network Method Using Smart Grid Communications
WIRELESS NETWORK METHOD USING IN SMART GRID COMMUNICATIONS
Ehsan Dolatshahi
Independent Study
April 22, 2015
Introduction
The old generation of electrical power grid has taken care of our needs in the past. However, as our
world progress technologically, so do the expectations from different infrastructures around us. Smart
grid is an initiative to completely restructure the electrical power grid to meet the current and future
requirements of its clients. Upgrading our electrical power grid could bring novel security
vulnerabilities into the system. Thus, security is one of the key parts in smart grid technology. Smart
grid technology also puts more reliability demands on WAN (wide area network) infrastructures. [1]
A smart grid is an intelligent electricity network that integrates the actions of all users connected to it
and makes use of innovative information, control, and communication technologies to save energy, cut
cost, and raise reliability and transparency. The smart grid is an upgrade to the current electrical power
structure. Meaning, on top of the functionality of our existing power system, it has upgraded with
some novel specifications. These new features adds more vulnerability to the system. [2]
Smart grid is mainly composed of six basic systems: power generation system, distribution system,
transmission network, data management and processing system, smart metering system, and customer
information system. The network architecture of smart grid

Dividend Policy at Fpl Group Essay
Dividend Policy at FPL Group
FPL Group Overview:
The FPL Group was Florida s largest electric utility group and the fourth largest in America. The FPL
Group had annual revenues of exceeding $5 billion. Florida Power amp; Light Company, the main
subsidiary of the FPL Group had 3.9 million customer accounts and covered a service area that
included six of America s ten fastest growing metropolitan areas.
a. Summarize the key elements of FPL s financial policy and compare it with other relevant firms.
We are commenting on FPL s financial policy from a dividend and capital structure perspective.
FPL has a very high dividend payout ratio of around 90% and has a 47 year streak of dividend
increases. FPL s dividend payout ratio is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would mean intense competition and may open up FPL to pricing pressure and in an adverse
situation, losses. Such a situation has already been witnessed in California s utility companies post
introduction of retail wheeling in their state.
In light of the situation mentioned above, FPL has to ensure that it has the resources available to meet
future competition where one of the determinants of winning or retaining new business may be price.
Hence, its dividend payout policy must be modified to account for these industry changes.
c. How should FPL choose between dividends and share repurchases as alternative modes of
payment?
The Modigliani Miller clearly postulates that the dividend policy is irrelevant. The value of the assets
of FPL should be independent of the financial structure of the firm. Also, the choice of dividend
payments or share repurchases should not influence the share price as both methods are ways to
distribute cash to the shareholders. However, this is true only in the Modigliani Miller world where
there are no costs related to taxes or financial distress.
In practice, dividend policy will be affected by taxes as tax rates for different categories of investors
will differ. Also, a firm s dividend policy is perceived by the financial markets to be a signaling
mechanism. A cut back in dividends may signify that the firm perceives tough

Example Of Mania In Hamlet
In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, a common theme of mania is spread throughout the play, and is
most apparent in the main character, Hamlet. Shakespeare depicts both the emotions and feelings of
the characters, allowing the audiance analyze their emotional state. It becomes obvious that Hamlet is
struggling with both emotional stress and a mental illness, melancholic depression. In some parts of
Hamlet, his emotions and melancholy seem to grade into each other primarily when contemplating his
fathers death, whereas other moments the two remain distinctly different. At times, it may be hard to
decipher whether Hamlet s actions are due to grief or depression, while other times the two play into
each other. With grief, one may have intense episodes of sadness, moments of anger, insomnia,
difficulty concentrating, feelings of loneliness or have thoughts of suicide (Schimelpfening). With
melancholic depression, the subject experiences extreme sadness, loss of interest in activities, anxiety,

For example, in Hamlet s and Polonius conversation about the actors, Polonius states My lord, I will

gets easily angered by this and responds God s bodykinds, man, much better. Use every man after his
desert, and who should scape whipping? (Hamlet, 48). An unexpected burst of anger in Hamlet breaks
out telling Polonius that giving them what they deserve isn t enough. Another instance of mood swings
occur during Ophelia s funeral. Hamlet claims that Laertes was being showy with his sorrow for
Ophelia, angering Hamlet. As a result, fight between the two broke out. As time passed, Hamlet
confesses to Horatio that he felt bad for the instance and said But I am very sorry, good Horatio, / That

Torture And Dehumanization Of The Holocaust And Abu Ghraib
Torture and Dehumanization in the Holocaust and Abu Ghraib Throughout time, torture has been used
as a cruel war tactic to exploit human beings and dehumanize the characteristics that give people their
identities outside of prison walls. In Rena s Promise: A Story of Sisters in Auschwitz, Rena Kornreich
tells her own accounts of the torture she experienced by both men and women during World War II.
Similarly, Coco Fusco sheds light on the use of torture by women in the United States Abu Ghraib
military scandal in A Field Guide for Female Interrogators. While in very different time frames, a
female victim and a female liberator seamlessly tie together the antics that have been experienced and
performed in war by thousands of men and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon returning the cap, the SS woman orders her German Shepard to attack the frail girl. Rena
glances at the sight, Her bloodied arms flail the air. The dog reaches her throat. Cemented before my
eyes, never to rest, is her spirit as it departs, separated from her body by a dog s jaws on her neck.
(Macadam, 197). The dog is then praised as it returns to the Nazi woman and licks the innocent
bloodshed from its paws. This killing displays the ruthlessness executed by Nazi women, as well as
the pleasure they seemed to take from taking lives of the innocent. Not only did the soldier inflict
physical torture, but psychological torture to those who had to witness and hear the death of their
comrade. This directly affected Rena in that she was instructed to carry the girls body back to camp;
every step I take, her cries tear my soul. (Macadam, 198). In comparison to Rena s Promise, Coco
Fusco delves into the use of female soldiers in the Iraqi Abu Ghraib prison scandal in the early 2000s.
Female interrogators were depicted in widely circulated photographs whose sexualized humiliation of
prisoners has come to symbolize the utter breakdown of any pretense the US may have once had to
being a guardian of democratic values (Fusco, 19). Specifically, several photographs of female
soldiers Lynndie England and Sabrina Harman surfaced showing them giving thumbs up and smiling
over the battered

Identity of Women in Shelley s Frankenstein, Bronte s...
Identity of Women in Shelley s Frankenstein, Bronte s Jane Eyre, and Eliot s The Mill on the Floss
George Eliot is quoted as stating: A woman s hopes are woven of sunbeams; a shadow annihilates
them (Miner 473). To extend this notion, Jean Giraudoux in Tiger at the Gates, states I have been a
woman for fifty years, and I ve never been able to discover precisely what it is I am (474). These two
statements are related to each other because they express, in large part, the dilemma facing Mary
Shelley, Charlotte Brontë, and George Eliot as they set out to write fictional manuscripts. Giraudoux
may not be able to define female even though she herself is a woman, because a shadow has
annihilated the hopes she might have had in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is created by Shelley to bear the weight of her personal feelings of loss in a male world and of
being defined by men; thus the monster is defined as a male. His despondency is the result of Shelley
realizing the molding of a male culture on her female uniqueness, and in result sees herself not as a
unique female individual, but a formed, boxed in creature; she realizes the monster that I am.
Jane, speaking for Charlotte, looks at herself in a mirror, rather than through a screen of definitions
men have created in regard to her. She ignores the limiting stories, and sees how cold and dark it is to
be true to the female qualities within her body. Being true to the qualities means coldness and
darkness ; words reminiscent of aloneness, and these are harsher than dealing with viewing herself
within the portrait of reality: in a male dominated society, containing males who create the role she
must live.
Lastly, Maggie looks at an inverted mirror, described as a square looking glass [emphasis my own].
The shape of the mirror is important because boxes are also square, and Maggie, like George, feels
that she is in a box created for her, with only the dark back of the mirror to view. In the scene, Maggie
considers turning the mirror around, but then quickly reconsiders. Perhaps she feels the act will do no
good, for light must be present for a mirror

The New Problem of Internet Addiction
With reference to relevant literature, identify and discuss a concern which has become a problem for
users of the internet.
Miniwatts Marketing Group (2009) stated that more than two billion people use the internet. The
internet is a world wide web of computer networks, all linked to one another. The internet enables
people to communicate almost instantly, research and access data or information, and is most
commonly used for email. The popularity of email has almost seen the demise of postal services
(Harris, 2007). This essay will argue that one concern for users of the internet is addiction, as millions
of users become consumed in the habit, with severe cases of internet addiction resulting in death and
violence.
Internet addiction is a habit addiction, rather than a form of substance abuse. According to Kimberley
Young it is the world s fastest growing addiction (2009, p 2). Perhaps the reason for this is due to the
many ways in which the internet can be used and how commonly accessible it has become in the
home or office. For example, the internet can be used for online shopping, virtual gaming, social
networking and aspects of the internet that are addictive. The concern with this is how the use of the
internet is impacting on a person s everyday living. Similarly to other forms of addiction,
inappropriate use of the internet can result in lost employment, broken relationships, financial loss and
even death. In an extreme case, a teenage addict killed his

Boundaries In Frankenstein Essay
Introduction Boundaries are important as they indicate a limit a person not supposed to cross, it
important that people respect boundaries as once boundaries are crossed, it can affect the relationship
between two people or society as a whole. Crossing boundaries come with consequences. In regards to
this assignment we will be looking at consequences of challenging boundaries in the gothic novels
Wuthering heights and Frankenstein. The social and cultural background of the genre gothic novel
According to Mullan, (2014), gothic fiction began as a sophisticated joke Horace Walpole first applied

and learning in the morals and ethics of Christianity, the monster in Frankenstein is able to form his
own code of behavior based on example and the behavior he views others, instinctive sense of

Systematic review can help researcher in accumulating knowledge from the range of studies.
Systematic literature review can enhance methodological rigor and also shows opportunities for
further research. A systematic review addresses a specific question, utilizes explicit and transparent
methods to perform a through literature search and critical appraisal of individual studies from which
we can conclude what presently we know and we do not know ( Briner and Denyer, 2012 ).
Systematic reviews adopt replicable, scientific and transparent process, thus differ from traditional

  • 2. How Did Woodrow Wilson s 14 Point Plan President Woodrow Wilson addressed Congress with a proposed 14 point plan before the end of World War I. The President did not want to fight in the war only to protect England and France, instead he wanted to end all wars. These fourteen points were made specifically to provide peace that would last forever and prevent another World War from happening. Wilson plan was to create peace throughout the world with his fourteen point system; however, after discussing with the other Allied powers it became evident that his 14 point plan would not be put into action without a lot of compromising. The allied powers did not agree with Wilson s idealism of world peace. British Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, French Premier, George Clemenceau and US President, Woodrow Wilson, also known as the Big Three met with each other on a daily basis to discuss the treaty. After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Germany was treated harshly by the decisions negotiated by the Allied Powers. The United States did not want harsh treatment for Germany. France wanted an extremely harsh treaty for Germany simply because they wanted them to pay for everything they had done to France. The British Prime Minister did not want to be too harsh on Germany, but his nation did. So, he agreed for a harsh treaty because he was afraid of causing another war in the future. Ultimately, all the nations associated with this peace treated came to the conference with different aims. Each country had suffered differently in the war; therefor, their desires were dictated by the extent of their suffering. Ultimately, the Treaty of Versailles was created to make Germany obligated to pay for the damage they caused in the war, give up their colonies and its armed forces. The treaty also abolished Germany s air forces and practically redrew the map of Europe. This peace treaty was biased against Germany and caused anger and humiliation throughout their ... • 3. Summary of the Hidden Persuaders by Vance Packard | Book Summary and Critique: The Hidden Persuaders Summary of THE HIDDEN PERSUADERS by Vance Packard 1. The Depth Approach. This book is about the large scale and sometimes impressively successful efforts to use insights from psychiatry and the social sciences (and provided all too willingly by cooperative psychologists and social scientists) to channel our unthinking habits, our purchasing decisions, and our thought processes. The use of mass psychoanalysis to guide campaigns of persuasion has become the basis of a multimillion dollar industry. Some of the attempted manipulation is simply amusing. Some of it is disquieting, particularly when viewed us a portent of more intensive and effective efforts that may lie ahead. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies of narcissism indicated that nothing appeals more to people than themselves, so why not help people buy products that were projections of themselves? The image builders reasoned that they could thus spark love affairs by the millions, and the sale of self images soon was expediting the movement of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of merchandise to consumers, particularly gasoline, cigarettes, and automobiles. 6. Rx for Our Secret Distresses. The merchandisers concluded that billions of dollars worth of sales depended heavily on successfully manipulating or coping with our guilt, fears, anxieties, hostilities, loneliness, and inner tensions. Guilt proved to be one of the major problems the motivational analysts had to grapple with, for though self indulgent and easy does it products such as candy, soft drinks, cigarettes, liquor, cake mixes, and laborsaving appliances were becoming a significant sector of the total market, Americans still were basically puritans at heart. Therefore, the marketing of such products had to assuage guilt feelings and offer absolution. Cigarette advertising began to reflect the insights of MR: people were shown smoking while under pressure or as a reward for tough jobs done. Similarly, candy was marketed as a way to reward oneself, or, when sold in bite sized pieces, as self indulgence in moderation. Household appliances were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Crucifixion Analysis The Crucifixion I chose to analyze The Crucifixion because it shows such passion, love, and creativity. When I first saw The Crucifixion I was not quite able to make out what the picture was showing. However, once I finally saw the image, I was absolutely astounded by what I saw. The colors all played really well off of each other, complimented one another, and the picture became quite clear. I feel that this picture completely describes my religion. My religion, to outsiders, may look like quite a mess of feelings and emotions, but once they look at it with a different point of view, they are able to clearly see the image of God. I also felt that the symbolism portrayed in this image truly inspiring. Like I have stated before, the art appears ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think the author wanted you to see Jesus suffering, His passion for His people, and His sadness in humanity s decision to sin over and over and over again. His eyes appear to be closed with, again, just show that He feels so much pain for His people, that He is suffering both physically and mentally. The title of this piece of art, The Crucifixion, helps better set the scene for what is happening here. Jesus is being crucified for being the son of God, for telling everyone that He is the savior who has come to save us from all our own doom, and that He is the one who will open the gates of Heaven so that we may enter. This image helps me better understand who Jesus was because His crucifixion was a major part of His life as well as the end of His life until He rises from the dead. Without Him dying on the cross, we would never be able to go to Heaven, as we would all go down to Hell for the gates of Heaven would not be opened, and He would not be able to rise from the dead and reveal to us all that He really is God. It makes you understand that, while being nailed to a cross, beaten, and whipped, is not an ideal situation for anyone to go through, He loved, and still loves us, so much that He was willing to go through one of the worst possible situations in order to be ... Causes Of The Soviet Union The first five year plan of the Soviet union was referred to the large scale and systematic socialist construction of the Soviet communist party, which the government in order to get rid of the backward agricultural country of the Soviet union from 1928 to 1932. The completion of the first five year plan made the Soviet union began to change from an agricultural country to industrial country. In the history this is the first time the Soviet union appeared the tractor, aircraft manufacturing, automotive, heavy machinery, precision instrument manufacturing, and other emerging industries. The Soviet union s oil, tractors and combine harvesters came in second place in the world, Europe s first. The Soviet Union has changed to an industrial country, but not an agricultural country that has lagged behind for a long time. During the Soviet first five year plan, the economy grew at a faster pace than any other capitalist country in the same period. The USSR makes the world full with admiration with their 5 years plan. After Stalin s death, the Soviet leader Khrushchev denounced Stalin s purges and the expulsion of minorities, lashed out at his policy bring the disaster of agricultural , also attacked his incompetent military command, and in the last said to return to the route of marxism leninism. Much of the abuse of power was done under Stalin s instructions, regardless of the party s guidelines and the Soviet rule of law. Stalin was a man with a sick suspicion. • 6. The Impact Of Public Figures As A Role Models On Children Do we want young teen girls living in a world where it s normal for boys to call them a fat piglet ? Many famous celebrities act inappropriately in the public eye. Since they re so famous, if they do anything that should be considered wrong, no one really thinks of it as a mistake. For example, if someone at school hit, called someone an inappropriate name, everyone would make a big deal out of it. However, if a popular basketball player hit his wife, it isn t published in news sources and showed to the public as much as it should be. Furthermore, public figures being perceived as a role model affects children in negative ways because they act inappropriately in the public eye, are violent, and break laws. Many celebrities think it s okay to act improper in public because they re famous. Look at the president of the United States, Donald Trump, he has social media and some of the things he says and puts for everyone to see is a little much sometimes. There is a video of Trump in an interview a couple years back calling Khloe Kardashian a fat piglet . If a teen girl saw that video one day and she was insecure about her looks, that video isn t going to make her feel better about herself. Statistics show in 2011 2013 there was 10.9 per 100,000 teens who committed suicide. A lot of those teens were assumably insecure, feeling unaccepted in the world, dealing with depression, and felt like they were alone in the world. • 7. Pros And Cons Of The Automobile Industry The automobile industry is one of the most prosperous industries in the United States. For years, it had a big impact on the American economy. But with the recession of 2007 2008, consumer spending decreased and new car sales plunged (Davis, 2012). Big automobile firms like General Motors and Chrysler were on the verge of bankruptcy (Davis, 2012). Luckily, the American government intervened to rescue these firms through bailout money (Davis, 2012). In 2010, the automobile industry in the United States employed more than 1.7 million people and generated more than 8 million jobs (Menk Cooper, 2010). • 8. Mountain Top Removal Mountaintop Removal: Critical fuel source or environmental antagonists? Mountaintop Removal mining is a very controversial environmental issue with many pros and cons on both sides of the argument. I have found three different articles with three contrasting views in the sense that they are from different geographic regions. The three articles are from the St. Petersburg Times, The Washington Times, and The Guardian, which are located in Florida, Maryland, and London, respectively. Despite the varying locations, the three articles shared many similarities in their articles. Thus, creating an immediate cause of a problem. He also points out that there have been reports of water contamination in towns surrounding mountaintop removal sites. Residents have been reporting not even being able to drink their own water. This creates underlying causes of a problem. According the article in the Washington Times by James E. Person Jr., the immediate causes of the problem is the destruction of the wilderness to make room for these surface mines. This destruction brings about water contamination, mountain soil erosion which could lead to future landslides, and slurry impoundments in the river that endanger the lives of everyone downstream. When it comes to underlying causes of the problem, Person points out that this pain and suffering will only spread to more communities if a stand is not made soon. He sarcastically states, it is not necessary to believe the area can or should be returned to Edenic purity to believe that turning the Earth into a giant midden and an open sewer is a terrible thing, and taking a stand against the destruction of human life and community is a good thing. • 9. Community College Is A Little Out Of Place One question that I am often asked after introducing myself is but why are you here though? For many people that I ve talked to, the thought of a Wisconsinite moving to Michigan for community college seems a little out of place. For most people, community college is something that is done before moving to another state for college, not after. However, this was not the route I was destined to take, and it payed of to be one of the best ones of my academic career, even if it does come of as a little strange. If there were one thing that shapes my identity the most, it would be my home. For most of my twenty year existence, I lived a fairly comfortable life in the sleepy town of West Salem, Wisconsin. Where I could be found spending time reading an atlas for fun as the calming sounds of crickets, and loons echoed in the distance. Besides my academic interests, many of my hobbies also came into being there. Whether that be in the form of ukulele playing, reading, photography, or one of my personal favorites trying new foods (especially of the ethnic variety), they all exist thanks in part to America s dairyland. My passion for photography, for example, all began one summer day three years ago when I picked up my Dad s Nikon camera, and began taking pictures as I hiked through our forty acre property. This is a passion that continues to this day, and one that I am excited to pursue more while I am here in Michigan. Which brings me to another part of my story, the move here itself. My Dad was originally from the Jackson area, and for the longest time I had absolutely no idea where that even was (well besides a rough geographical area from a finger pointing on to a spot on his palm.) While I lived in Wisconsin, we barely had time to visit Michigan. Often times only visiting once every few years, usually around easter. Before the move I barely even knew my relatives in Jackson, besides the correspondence of a birthday letter, or the occasional phone call. • 12. Naturalism And Naturalism To start things off, both versions touched on the four traits in which naturalism convey. Those four traits being heredity, passion, instinct, and environment. However, not all traits were expressed the same, and not all traits had the same substance or background information within the stories. Nevertheless, Version A had a little twist to it because unlike Version B, the man in Version A had a dog to accompany him. The dog played a very pivotal role in this story. In Version A, you see the true fashion of Eric Link s method of Scientific Naturalism. The story shows how the man was willing to kill the dog, so that he could use the carcass to relieve his hands from the numbness. Version A stated He remembered the tale of the man, caught in a blizzard, who killed a steer and crawled inside the carcass, and so was saved (London 636). In other words, he was willing to take a life to save his own. This is naturalism at its finest because in order to live, sometimes we have to do the unthinkable. Survival of the fittest plays a crucial role in life or death situations. In addition to that, when it comes to death in naturalism; we tend to have two choices. Either you accept defeat and die or you go out swinging, and maybe just maybe you will live. In both stories, the men are about to freeze to death. However, one begins to panic and accept his demise. While the other begins to think of a solution. Version A states There were lots worse ways to die (London 638). This shows the pessimistic side of the man in Version A. How does one s stress disappear simply due to school being put on the back burner? Yes, most homework responsibilities are not of concern, but our school break is only nine days. With nine days, I don t believe that all individuals including himself are duty and completely worry free. I don t know about most people, but merely because school is put on hold does not relieve all the worries in the back of my mind. With that being said, the short interruption with school does not create a stress free environment where I am allowed to enjoy myself. Whether it s the last minute Christmas baking, gift wrapping or a cramped work schedule, I do not categorize that as a way to enjoy my break as Roman makes clear in his paper. I find pleasure in the easy aspects such as the hour long naps and drinking a steaming cup of hot cocoa by the blazing fire. These two statements are related to each other because they express, in large part, the dilemma facing Mary Shelley, Charlotte Brontë, and George Eliot as they set out to write fictional manuscripts. Giraudoux may not be able to define female even though she herself is a woman, because a shadow has annihilated the hopes she might have had in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is created by Shelley to bear the weight of her personal feelings of loss in a male world and of being defined by men; thus the monster is defined as a male. His despondency is the result of Shelley realizing the molding of a male culture on her female uniqueness, and in result sees herself not as a unique female individual, but a formed, boxed in creature; she realizes the monster that I am. Jane, speaking for Charlotte, looks at herself in a mirror, rather than through a screen of definitions men have created in regard to her. She ignores the limiting stories, and sees how cold and dark it is to be true to the female qualities within her body. Being true to the qualities means coldness and darkness ; words reminiscent of aloneness, and these are harsher than dealing with viewing herself within the portrait of reality: in a male dominated society, containing males who create the role she must live. Lastly, Maggie looks at an inverted mirror, described as a square looking glass [emphasis my own]. The shape of the mirror is important because boxes are also square, and Maggie, like George, feels that she is in a box created for her, with only the dark back of the mirror to view. In the scene, Maggie considers turning the mirror around, but then quickly reconsiders. Perhaps she feels the act will do no good, for light must be present for a mirror ... • 30. The New Problem of Internet Addiction With reference to relevant literature, identify and discuss a concern which has become a problem for users of the internet. Miniwatts Marketing Group (2009) stated that more than two billion people use the internet. The internet is a world wide web of computer networks, all linked to one another. The internet enables people to communicate almost instantly, research and access data or information, and is most commonly used for email. The popularity of email has almost seen the demise of postal services (Harris, 2007). This essay will argue that one concern for users of the internet is addiction, as millions of users become consumed in the habit, with severe cases of internet addiction resulting in death and violence. Internet addiction is a habit addiction, rather than a form of substance abuse. According to Kimberley Young it is the world s fastest growing addiction (2009, p 2). Perhaps the reason for this is due to the many ways in which the internet can be used and how commonly accessible it has become in the home or office. For example, the internet can be used for online shopping, virtual gaming, social networking and aspects of the internet that are addictive. The concern with this is how the use of the internet is impacting on a person s everyday living. Similarly to other forms of addiction, inappropriate use of the internet can result in lost employment, broken relationships, financial loss and even death. In an extreme case, a teenage addict killed his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
