Communist Mainitarianism In George Orwell s Animal Farm
Communists Come Calling
George Orwell, the author of Animal Farm, was a soldier in both World War II and the Spanish Civil
War. Throughout both of these wars, he had gone through many tough situations. He did not agree
with much that was going on during this time, including the communism that was starting to take
place, as well as some people that were starting to believe in capitalism (Menand 084). Writing this
book allowed him to show his feelings towards what was happening and what he agreed with /
disagreed with. Orwell was known as a man who had a special pleasure with confronting his confreres
(Rodden and Rossi 16 21), which brought him to write this book making sure that he could express his
opinions on their beliefs to them. Starting off the book with everything being happy and interesting
caught the attention of the readers, and their attention was kept by portraying different people through
the different type of people and animals. Keeping the reader s attention was the main goal for Orwell,
because of the fact that he was replaying situations that had already happened before, so he wanted
people to know what he lived through. Wanting to keep it as real as possible but not boring was one of
the largest factors that had played a part in his writings. George Orwell s Animal Farm analyzes the
communist political system through the functioning use of a farm, reflecting on Joseph Stalin, Leon
Trotsky, and Adolf Hitler.
One representation that was made was through

The Impressions Of The Russian Conflict In Ukraine And The...
Since Russia s annexation of Ukraine s Crimea, tensions have been high in the international
community regarding how to best cope with Russian aggressions. Although many NATO and other
institutions have moved to assist Ukraine retrieving its territory, the international communities main
goal is a demilitarization zone in between the Ukraine and Russia to prevent further conflicts.
Although NATO has preferred to use economic and political routes to deter Russian aggression, it is
clear to the Ukrainian decision makers that this route will not have their desired effect of retaking
Crimea. For Ukraine, regaining the city of Crimea is the only way to keep Russian aggression in check
and to create relative peace in that region. Recently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in 2010, Yanukovych was finally elected, steering Ukraine economically and politically
closer with Russia. Yanukovych was also responsible for Ukraine s backing away from joining the
EU, causing mass protest throughout Ukraine s citizens, resulting in his impeachment. This strife is
what allowed Russia to invade Crimea following their vote, as Ukraine was at a point of political
weakness. Due to Russia and Ukraine sharing a border and historical ties of unity, their economies
have also become conjoined, creating a reliance on each other. According to Hromadske International,
Russia and Ukraine s territorial proximity and integrated Soviet era economy means that both
countries economies are largely intertwined (Dunnet Web). In regards, Ukraine, along with other
countries in the EU, relies heavily on gas from Russia. Recently, Russia wanted Ukraine to pay off its
gas debts about 5.3 billion and cut off Ukraine s supply until a debt was paid. Ukraine had been
struggling to afford the gas prices as a steep rise occurred after Yanukovych signed a reduced deal on
gas with Russia. When Russia cut off Ukraine s supply, EU nations were greatly affected as well. The
Russian gas lines run through Ukraine into EU nations, meaning the cutoff of Ukraine s supply meant
no gas for EU nations as well. This caused support and assistance for Ukraine from the EU. Although
tensions have been high between

It s hard to imagine having your entire family murdered as a young kid, living in a century where war
attacks were in every corner. This was the life of the young boy in the story The Painted Bird.
Although the author, Jerzy Kosinski, never confirmed the book as an autobiography, it was easy to feel
the pain as if he experienced it himself. The Painted Bird is a heartfelt novel that gives us all a glimpse
into the dark reality of our past. The author is able to walk us through what I believe was his life. We
are lead through a series of trauma the young boy experienced. The boy shares the dark reality that
anyone that is that vulnerable can be tortured, abused and killed by anyone, including family. The boy
s tragic life is a testimony of how terrifying life was like during the world war. Nevertheless, it seems
as though life was just a bit tougher for him because he was different. Life can be difficult for many
people, but it is undeniable that being different can affect the way others view you. *Such life was

Through the juxtaposition of childish innocence and the most brutal forms of fallen adult experience,
such works sum up the universal trauma of war in a myth of unrivaled concentration and clarity.

then even harder to find funding to educate oneself, and the natural instinct is to look directly at the

Superego In Lord Of The Flies Essay
Frued s theory of the human psyche is that it is made up of three parts: the id, ego, and superego.
These three parts are represented in the realistic novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Set on a
tropical island during World War II, the novel begins when schools boys from Great Britain are being
flown to safety and their plane is shot down. No adults survive, and the boys are left to govern
themselves and get rescued. In the novel Jack represents the id, Piggy and Simon the superego, and
Ralph the ego.
In Lord of the Flies Jack represents the id. The id is the primitive and instinctive part of the
personality. Jack can most often time be seen making decisions based in on these two. One such
example is when [h]e [tries] to convey the compulsion to track down and kill that [is] ... Show more

Ralph is the character that represents the ego and he is in control of the boys in the beginning of the
book. He is elected chief of the island: Him with the shell. Ralph! Ralph! Let him be chief with the
trumpet thing. Ralph raised his hand for silence (22) and already has power over the boys even right
after he is chosen. He also is influenced by Simon, Piggy, and Jack. He listens to the superego when
Piggy tells him to blow the conch in the beginning and listens to the id when he Ralph feasts with Jack
and takes part in killing Simon. The reader is able to see that Ralph relied on the superego when, at the
end of the book, both Simon and Piggy are dead and he is being chased, he asks himself What was the
sensible thing to do? There was no Piggy to talk sense (196). Ralph relies on others to help him make
decisions and is influenced by what other people say and do. He is also the one in control of the boys
for most of the book. These are both traits of the ego. These characters in the book all help represent

The Anti Vivisection Society ( Aavs )
Animals are living creatures and we should not experiment on them, forcing them to live with injuries
or illnesses: It is wrong. We should not be able to manipulate them and hurt them forcing them to live
with injuries or illnesses we inflicted without them being able to fight back. They suffer everyday
being held in small cages with no freedom until they find their untimely end most likely being
euthanized. Testing on animals is not even a reliable study; this is something that the American Anti
Vivisection Society (AAVS) argues. The AAVS is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to
advocacy for animals and eliminating animals from all experimentation in the USA. The AAVS
believe animals have the right not to be exploited for science and we should not have to choose
between helping humans and harming animals. (2013, paragraph 9) Using animals in
experimentations is questioned more and more every year because of the reduced reliability shown
over time. Some scientific limitations are that even though a treatment or medicine may work on an
animal the outcome on a human may be entirely different. Health and Human Services Secretary Mike
Leavitt says, nine out of ten experimental drugs fail in clinical studies because we cannot accurately
predict how they will behave in people based on laboratory and animal studies. (2013, paragraph 16)
Studies using animals are flawed because of the differences in physiology, metabolism, anatomy, and
genetics. Helen Marston brings up a

Foreknowledge seems to be the hinge upon which these questions swing. Paul told the Romans in
Romans 8:27 30, ...and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He
intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that God causes all things to work
together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those
whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He
would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined , He also called; and
these whom He called, he also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. Paul follows
these statements with the basic questions being explored in this paper in Romans 8:31, What then shall
we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? What does Paul mean by foreknowledge ?
Whose knowledge and knowledge of what? Equally important, if not more, is the question of fore .
Does this mean before ? If so, before what or who? Some argue that this foreknowledge speaks of God
s knowledge for what each man would believe and do before they actually believed and did, so that
God s predestination, calling, justifying and glorifying of each believer is based on each man s belief

The Child Of A Pastor And A Housewife
The child of a pastor and a housewife, Samuel Morse was born on April 27, 1791. He was an inventor
and an artist during the 19th century. His invention of the telegraph, along with the creation of the
famous Morse code used to send messages across a radio wave, would change the history and use of
messaging. These inventions would make a huge impact during certain events like the Civil War and
the tragic sinking of the Titanic. Samuel Finley Breese Morse was born on April 27, 1791 in
Charlestown, Massachusetts, to Jeddiah Morse and Elizabeth Ann Finley, whom they named after
Elizabeth s father and grandfather (Silverman 4). In all, Samuel s parents had eleven children but only

But three thousand miles are not passed over an instant. (Latham and Polseno 26). This is the time
when Samuel began to think of a way to improve the standard messaging system and started to work
on making a device that would send electricity through wires in order to send a message. In order for
his messaging idea to come to life Samuel would need help and money. As a way to make money he
accepted an appointment as Professor of Painting and Sculpture at the just opened University of the
City of New York. (Silverman 124). After getting a real job, and after receiving a steady income,
Samuel could finally focus on his invention of the telegraph. Finally in the fall of 1837, Samuel
received help from two men named Alfred Vail and Leonard D. Gale (Kerby 30). After years of hard
work and dedication, Samuel and his partners delivered a message containing the phrase What hath
God wrought! from a room in the United States Supreme Court building...The message was received
in Baltimore. (38).During this same time, Samuel had also started coming up with a code which would
be used to send messages across the telegraph; this would later be named after him as Morse code.
With the invention of the telegraph, along with the concept of Morse code, the world would forever
change. The first

A Career Of A Pilot
A Career in The Clouds Since the beginning of time, flight is something that humans have tried to

idea of flying. Even when I was young I entertained the idea of becoming a pilot. I believe this is a job
that will challenge me and help me grow as a person. This paper will explore the job description,

people. I now know the extent of difficulty this job comes with, but luckily the most difficult aspect is
the schooling and not the job itself. In summary, there are many elements in the job description of a
pilot. Second, it is important to consider the educational and personal qualifications of being a pilot.
To begin, the Occupational Handbook describes what education requirements you need. To be a
commercial pilot you will need a high school diploma or the equivalent before you can even begin
training; in order to fly for an airline, you will need a bachelor s degree. As for pilot specific training
you will need six certificates: a Student Pilot Certificate, Private Pilot License, Instrument Rating,
Commercial Pilot License, Multi Engine Rating, and an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate. Education
received through the military is also highly valued, but not necessary (OCO). Next, there are a few
available places to receive pilot training in Kansas. Spartan College notes that they have a 33 month

Comparison Of Astro Boy And Rosy The Robot
Comparison of Astro Boy Rosy the Robot
A lot of kids and teenagers enjoy watching animation TV. Some popular series include Astro Boy and
The Jetsons . The characters of Astro Boy in Astro Boy and Rosy the Robot in The Jetsons have a lot
in common, such as that they are both robots, as well as many differences. The evidence collected to
support these facts include the characters appearance, personalities and their role in society.
One of Astro Boy s and Rosy s biggest differences is their appearance; however, they also have
similarities. Differences include that Astro Boy has the appearance of a human boy, although we are

How Does Kurt Vonnegut Use Symbols In Harrison Bergeron

how the society they live in impacts their live. It explores satire, symbolism and what it truly means to
be equal, and is aimed towards the general public as a message about how society could evolve into a
dystopia. The theme is how true equality is found in rights and social justice, not in removing personal
attributes and qualities like beauty, strength and intelligence.
Kurt Vonnegut Jr. s use of symbolism effectively reinforces the main idea of the story. Throughout the

Immortals of Greek mythology
Greek Mythology:
Immortals
The Greeks created images of their deities for many purposes. A temple would house the statue of a

images were common on coins. Drinking cups and other vessels were painted with scenes from Greek
myths.

old tutor Silenus. The consort of Dionysus was Ariadne. Animals sacred to him include dolphins,
serpents, tigers, and donkeys. A later addition to the Olympians, in some accounts he replaced Hestia.
Bacchus was another name for him in Greek, and came into common usage among the Romans.
Hades (ᾍδης, Hádēs) or Pluto (Πλούτων, Ploutōn)
King of the underworld and the dead, and god of the earth s hidden wealth, both agricultural produce

mystery religions and Athenian literature, Pluto (Plouton, the Rich ) was his preferred name, with
Hades more common for the underworld as a place. The Romans translated Plouton as Dis Pater ( the

Myers-Brigg Personality Analysis
According to Myers Brigg personality test I am an INFJ (Introverted Intuitive Feeling Judging

it usually results in an inclination towards the arts. Moreover, an INFJ type personality tends to seek

if someone decide to become a doctor or chose a career in the medical field, for example, it is not just
enough to have knowledge about how the human body works, but also it is of great importance to
posses an understanding of the social, and cultural aspects of an individual that is language, race,

Now I believe that this is an extremely important motto due to the fact that you can use this in every
aspect of your life as I stated above. If your mind and body are prepared for any obstacle that is
thrown your way there is nothing that can stop you. This hits me strongly because I believe that when
you set your mind to a goal in order to better yourself you need to set them out of reach so you
continue to grow stronger as an individual. Now onto one particular point of the Scout Law. A Scout is
Helpful. I believe this is the absolute most important point from the Scout Law. This is because from
the very first breath you take as an infant, you will look out for yourself with a self centered point of
view. For it is human nature to preserve oneself. But a Scout has the challenge of putting others first
despite his own needs. This is a great representation of the honor that is involved with being a Scout.
In order to be helpful, a Scout must be ready, able and willing to help as described in the Scout
Handbook. This means that a Scout needs to have the knowledge, skills and abilities in order to help

Coming Of Age Ceremony Essay
Every year on the third Monday in May, Korea celebrates the coming of age ceremony for young men
and women turning 19 in that year. Aside from the ceremonies in different parts of the country, there is
also an award ceremony to laud exemplary young adults. The usual gifts for this day are popularly
given as a bouquet of red roses and, if lucky, a first kiss. Champagne and perfume are other two
options with high tech gadgets being the latest addition these days.
Despite the western appearance however, the coming of age ceremony has its own tradition dating as
far as the Goryeo Dynasty (918 1392). The first written record of Korea s coming of age ceremony is
found in 965, during King Gwangjong s reign (925 975). It was written at the time that the young

Their coming of age ceremony would take place in the year they turned 15 and they would be taught
the virtues of a woman. They too would visit ancestral shrines to inform the heaven of their maturity.
The ritual would be called a gyerye.
The coming of age ritual was a prerequisite for both men and women to get married.
As recently as the mid 1950s it was quite common to see traditional coming of age rites held in towns
and villages with the attendance of the elderly. By the latter half of the 20th century however, the
influx of western culture and its manner of enjoying the rite of passage into adulthood came to replace
traditional rites more and more.
In 1999, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in order to resurrect the tradition, came up with
standardized coming of age rites to be practiced in schools and towns. The purpose was to remind
young people of the pride and dignity of traditional culture and teach the true meaning of being a

In order to properly answer and understand this first question, we must examine the true meaning of
natural and unnatural. Depending on different cultures or even different regions of the world, the
meaning of natural behavior may differ. In a modern society, I would say that unnatural behaviors are
those that target the life of another human in any form. In other words, behaviors like murder, terrorist
arrangements, child abuse, etc are done in order to place another life at risk of survival. For example,
the concept of cannibalism is thought to be immoral as it risks the safety and survival of human beings
among each other. However, there are still people that practice this ritual. In previous tribal

In order to have morals an individual must have specific aspects in their human nature. For example, it
is immoral to kill others; hence, it must be human nature to avoid murder. But, why do we have crimes
and such a high murder rate. Furthermore, it depends on each person. If it is in your human nature to
be a good person and help others, then your morality is related to your human nature. Good morals
enables humans to shape their personality and to an extent predict their future endearments. For
example, as we grow older we know to talk with manners, to be respectable, and listen when someone
else is talking. Furthermore, we grow more and learn to not cheat and to be kind to elders and young
children. These are morals we learn to abide to, but also become human nature. Whereas, if an
individual has an evil, harmful human nature, then their morality is also related to that and those are
the people that hurt and kill others.
Therefore, yes we need to know about human beings in order to know how to treat them morally.

Socrates s Theory Of Justice
In Plato s Republic, Socrates argues for the importance of living a just life. However, Glaucon asks
why any person favors the just life over an unjust one. Glaucon would like an answer regarding this
type of justice, and if it is good only for its results or good in itself. Socrates argues that justice in the
individual is the balance between sprit, reason, and desire (scc. 435a). Socrates account of justice,
displays a life in which a justice provides benefits not only for the individual, but also society. In this
case, Socrates account of justice, does not provide a sufficient reason to be just. Socrates parallel of
justice and health cannot answer Glaucon s request fully. Therefore, without sufficiently proving the
inherent good of justice his claim falls apart.
Socrates account of justice stems from Glaucon s arrangement of the three categories of goods:
inherently good, pleasurable, or both. Glaucon asks if there is any value in simply being a just person,
he comes to find that if a person can be unjust and get away with it then the unjust life is better. The
first of its three categories is meant for the things that are a kind of good we like for its own sake
(scc.357c) . The second category is for what s good as a result of their consequences such as exercise
for fitness and sex for pleasure and children. The highest category is for things that are both good in
themselves and because of their consequences. Continuing the challenge and reinforcing his second

Judaism And Vegetarianism In Judaism
Hope Budman Conlin Johnson HTM 421 9/19/17 Essay #1 In Judaism there are many important
aspects of food for religious reasons. The main aspect, eating Kosher foods only. As well as, the many
holidays celebrated there are certain foods we eat and certain foods we cannot eat. Some Jews have
been eating Kosher for thousand of years because they follow kashrut (the Torah s dietary laws)
(Freeman). I am Jewish, but do not keep Kosher because I am reform; however, at the Temple I belong
to, it is kept Kosher. Keeping Kosher is a choice and followed by many Orthodox Jews. What are
Kosher foods? According to the book of Genesis, vegetarianism was commanded by God as the ideal
diet. However, in the course of the biblical narratives, this changed to include a variety of different
animals (Staff). Animals allowed to be eaten are, any creature that both chews its cud and has split
hooves...any fish that has both fins and scales... (Staff). Along with the specific foods, you are not
allowed to mix dairy with meat. That is why at my Temple, we have separate kitchens to keep
everything Kosher. Going shopping in your grocery store you can noticeably see some Kosher
products, like Kosher pickles and Kosher hot dogs. Like every religion there are specific foods you
eat; however, there are times we are restricted from eating some foods. Starting with the first major
holiday of the year according to the Jewish calendar is Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. On this

The Icon Of Grease Will Never Lose Devotion
The Icon of Grease Will Never Lose Devotion For a movie released in 1978 it still holds true to the
drama of high school and the cliche of summer love. Grease became a classic for the same reasons as
American Graffiti, it explored the life of teens and culture during the fifties. The film director Randal
Kleiser cast a previous academy award nominee, John Travolta and rising Australian star Olivia
Newton John and it now is the epitome of their careers. The musical is a romantic comedy that takes
place in the late fifties with a summer fling between greaser Danny Zuko and good girl Sandy. They
parted with the conclusion of summer, but when school resumes, they find themselves attending the
same high school. It follows Danny and Sandy as well as the perspective friend groups the t birds and
pink ladies. Grease is a musical that is both iconic and forever relatable with it s lively music, dancing,
humor and simple story lines. Some would consider the casting in Grease to be a flaw because they
are meant to portray teenagers and all the main actors and actresses were well into their twenties.
Stockard Channing, who played Rizzo was thirty three when they began filming, Olivia Newton John
was twenty eight, and John Travolta was twenty three. They cast doesn t even look like they could be
high school students, but I think it was worth it to be able to include good actors and actresses.
Furthermore, from the feminist perspective the movie is categorized as bad because of the

the books. What about Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes a book about a 32 year old man named
charlie who is developmentally disabled and has the opportunity to undergo a surgical procedure that
will dramatically increase his mental capabilities. Why ban this book? Well in this book you can find
references to the use of alcohol, references to sexual content and Bullying. The book s references to
sexual content, alcohol use, and bullying influenced many parents to have this book be banned, but is
the banning of this book throughout the nation justified.
One reason why Flowers of algernon by daniel keyes was banned in many schools was because of the
reference to the use of alcohol. In progress report 16 the use of alcohol is mentioned a few times Fay
had taken off her shoes and was sitting on the floor, sipping gin out of the bottle, This makes it sound
like drinking alcohol is a casual thing.Alcohol is also mentioned again in progress report 16, is it wise

The Professional Nursing Mindset Of A Healthier And More...
Analysis
Change Mindset The first thing that needs to change is the professional nursing mindset of taking the
break that they are entitled to. Nurses tend to feel that it is uncommon, unnecessary, and even wrong
to take a break. Like one nurse put it: ...We don t always say, okay, go. Because they ve got the old
Catholic guilt that nurses get embedded into them as part of the military training we go through
(Happell et al., 2013, p. 644). Nurses need to realize that they are only hurting themselves and the
patients they think they are helping by not taking breaks. Leaders play a role in helping identify the
issue and using management skills to guide the unit into a healthier and more positive mindset
(Brunges Foley Brinza, 2014).
Communication
To assess if there is a problem with the current setup, nurse managers and leaders can try to gauge
employee satisfaction with surveys. If nurses indicate a problem with not getting their entitled break,
then action should be taken. Communication is key so meetings can be called to try to brainstorm
what the problem is i.e. are there too many patients or is there not enough coverage? Communication
should be encouraged and suggestions and problems be brought to management attention. This can be
stimulated with monthly unit meetings, having an open door policy, or even a suggestion box.
However the best type of communication is face to face so the matter can be discussed and
clarifications can be made without

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Psychotic Depression
Psychotic depression, or psychosis, is a mental state of false believes, known as delusions, or false
sights or sounds, known as hallucinations. This type is usually not associated with depression, but
about 20% of people diagnosed with depression have severe episodes where the person can see or hear
things that are not really there. (Lliades, 2015) The symptoms of psychotic depression can possibly be
agitation, anxiety, constipation, hypochondria, insomnia, physical immobility, intellectual impairment,
and delusions or hallucinations. These are the most common symptoms for people suffering.
(Goldberg, 2014, August 21) The cause of this is when a person has a subtype of major depression that
occurs when a severe depressive illness includes another form of psychosis. The psychosis can be
hallucinations, delusions, or some other break from reality. (Goldberg, 2014, August 21) The diagnosis
can be diagnosed by a doctor like all other types of depression. Also, other illnesses will be ruled out,
including the other depression types. Treatment for psychotic depression is usually recommended by
the doctor to be given in the hospital setting. This way the patient can be closely monitored by the
health professions. A variety of medications are used to stabilize the person s mood. The medications
typically include antidepressants along with antipsychotic medicine. These affect neurotransmitters

Communication At Prab Raritan Gardens Essay
Part C: Communication is a large part at my particular site, there is open communication between all

there is an issue within the classroom, teachers will either address it among themselves or bring it up

If she does not agree with something she brings it up in an appropriate manner and it is address.
Within my time at PRAB Raritan Gardens, I have not witness any conflicts between staff members. As
stated above, from what I ve witnessed everyone is very vocal about their opinions, while at the same
time everyone is also very willing to help each other. An example of which is if a classroom has a
particularly difficult child, teachers do not view this as that specific teacher s child to handle. If
someone is able to offer help, either by bringing the child within their classroom to settle him or her

which was a time Teacher N had helped the teacher adjacent to her classroom with a child who was

Teen suicide in Colorado is at an all time high. It has become one of the biggest social problems
affecting all our lives in one way or another. It is a day to day experience and everyday news in our

company. Though fur was Alaska s biggest trade, Russia took advantage of all opportunities for
exports even including ice which was traded to the Southern states of the United States. Even with the
trading company, the population of Russians in Alaska only ever got up to roughly 400 people. Years
later another couple of explorers landed on Alaska land like Captain James Cook, who landed in
nowadays Cook Inlet in Anchorage. Even still, the first Russian settlement was on Kodiak Island in
1784.
In 1859, Russian Minister to the United States, Edouard de Stoecki, came to the United States and
offered Alaska to purchase. The thought behind selling the piece of land to the U.S. was that the U.S.
could help keep the threating Great Britian in check in the Pacific region of the world. Russia was
involved in the Crimean War. The British, French and Turkish were against Russia. Russia could no

Today we gain so much from the state of Alaska. Oil was found in many different place in Alaska.
There is a pipeline that carries the oil through the state, to processing plants. Because the pipeline is
used by oil companies, the government taxes the oil companies and makes a large profit. Part of the
profit goes back to the residents of Alaska called the Permanent Fund Dividend or PFD. Each resident
of Alaska that can prove citizenship gets a check from the state. This year s PFD is estimated to be
$2,100 to each

Workers During The 1900s S
Workers in the 1870s to 1930s Throughout history many people, such as politicians, officials, and
generals, have been noted to have molded the United States, neglecting the fact that workers have also
played an important role in shaping this nation s history. During the 1870s to the 1930s, laborers faced
many hardships; they had trouble keeping their jobs, had their wages decreased, and were forced to
work sixty hour weeks without insurance. Over time, workers began to feel aggravated by their
employers demands and began to voice their opinions. Only by forming into unions and standing up to
what employers thought was freedom in the workplace were the laborers able to change working
conditions more favorable for them. Early in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually the workers began to protest. They went on strikes, formed unions, and even used violence
against the employers. One of the unions called the Knights of Labor, founded in the 1869, fought for
eight hour workdays and wage equality among male, female, black, and white workers. They
participated in many strikes, boycotts, and other activities protesting for workplace freedom. Another
labor union was the American Federation of Labor founded in 1881 consisting of mostly skilled
workers. Formed in 1903, the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and Women s Trade Union
League also played a role in aiding workers, specifically female laborers, to gain work rights. These
labor movements played significant roles in history because they influenced or forced employers to
make changes in the workplace. One of the key issues that workers were fighting for was wages.
During the 1870s to 1920s, employers often lowered the workers wages. For example, when the
legislature of Massachusetts enacted a fifty four hour working limit per week, employers decided to
lower the wages. During the first national labor walkout, laborers protested against employers
decreasing their wages; this event became known as the Great Railroad Strike of 1877. An example of
a successful strike was in New Orleans of 1907, 10,000 dockworkers were able to stop employers
from reducing their wages. In 1912, the Industrial Workers of the World and other workers went on
strike

Mckay On Heritage
Through thorough analysis of McKay, Cullen, Bennett, and Hughes the authors of these poems, it
explains the significance of Africa and concept of heritage. McKay s significance of Africa and
concept of heritage is depicted in four lines that stood out to the author. The first is line 1 on pg. 1007,
it says, The sun sought thy dim bed and brought forth light. This to the author and the audience that
McKay intends this for might look at this line as being not significant, but McKay uses this line to
create imagery of the sun rising but also gives the writer help at elaborating it to whoever reads this
paper. The author looks at this piece as McKay describing God as the sun because he/she is an
omnipotent being which means all powerful, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bennett goes even deeper when she uses the moon, the stars, and the sky. With all that she describes
her main significance of Africa is to get it back to what it was. Referring back to McKay and his
looking at Africa as being a great continent. Bennett is basically pleading for help to fix things. That
explains her significance of Africa she wants her people to fix the problems that persist because
ultimately the only one that can limit yourself is yourself. Which means the only one that can enslave
you is you, if they take your body they cannot take your mind unless you let them. Her concept of
heritage is interesting to the author though because she says, I want to see lithe Negro girls, Etched
dark against the sky, While sunset lingers. Which indicates that these are different tribes and different
heritages that Bennett has described which means that she is helping represent these people and their
heritages in different ways. This synopsis of Bennett s Heritage poem explains the significance of
Africa and its concept of heritage. How the idea of African and American history present themselves
in Bennett writing is through her personification of her references and through the different heritages
that she is describing. With that being said, she explains that she wants everything to go back to what
it was which will not happen because of the conflict of African and American history. The author is
basically saying the damage is done and since it is done the life of the people that she has embodied in
her poems will never see things become right

  • 2. Communist Mainitarianism In George Orwell s Animal Farm Communists Come Calling George Orwell, the author of Animal Farm, was a soldier in both World War II and the Spanish Civil War. Throughout both of these wars, he had gone through many tough situations. He did not agree with much that was going on during this time, including the communism that was starting to take place, as well as some people that were starting to believe in capitalism (Menand 084). Writing this book allowed him to show his feelings towards what was happening and what he agreed with / disagreed with. Orwell was known as a man who had a special pleasure with confronting his confreres (Rodden and Rossi 16 21), which brought him to write this book making sure that he could express his opinions on their beliefs to them. Starting off the book with everything being happy and interesting caught the attention of the readers, and their attention was kept by portraying different people through the different type of people and animals. Keeping the reader s attention was the main goal for Orwell, because of the fact that he was replaying situations that had already happened before, so he wanted people to know what he lived through. Literary Analysis Of The Painted Bird Oyuki Paniagua Professor Brienza Larsen English 1B July 21 2017 Different It s hard to imagine having your entire family murdered as a young kid, living in a century where war attacks were in every corner. This was the life of the young boy in the story The Painted Bird. Although the author, Jerzy Kosinski, never confirmed the book as an autobiography, it was easy to feel the pain as if he experienced it himself. The Painted Bird is a heartfelt novel that gives us all a glimpse into the dark reality of our past. The author is able to walk us through what I believe was his life. We are lead through a series of trauma the young boy experienced. The boy shares the dark reality that anyone that is that vulnerable can be tortured, abused and killed by anyone, including family. The boy s tragic life is a testimony of how terrifying life was like during the world war. Nevertheless, it seems as though life was just a bit tougher for him because he was different. Life can be difficult for many people, but it is undeniable that being different can affect the way others view you. *Such life was Kosinskis, Being different than the people around him made him a target. Through the juxtaposition of childish innocence and the most brutal forms of fallen adult experience, such works sum up the universal trauma of war in a myth of unrivaled concentration and clarity. Aside from the ceremonies in different parts of the country, there is also an award ceremony to laud exemplary young adults. The usual gifts for this day are popularly given as a bouquet of red roses and, if lucky, a first kiss. Champagne and perfume are other two options with high tech gadgets being the latest addition these days. Despite the western appearance however, the coming of age ceremony has its own tradition dating as far as the Goryeo Dynasty (918 1392). As recently as the mid 1950s it was quite common to see traditional coming of age rites held in towns and villages with the attendance of the elderly. By the latter half of the 20th century however, the influx of western culture and its manner of enjoying the rite of passage into adulthood came to replace traditional rites more and more. In 1999, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in order to resurrect the tradition, came up with standardized coming of age rites to be practiced in schools and towns. Depending on different cultures or even different regions of the world, the meaning of natural behavior may differ. In a modern society, I would say that unnatural behaviors are those that target the life of another human in any form. In other words, behaviors like murder, terrorist arrangements, child abuse, etc are done in order to place another life at risk of survival. For example, the concept of cannibalism is thought to be immoral as it risks the safety and survival of human beings among each other. However, there are still people that practice this ritual. In order to have morals an individual must have specific aspects in their human nature. For example, it is immoral to kill others; hence, it must be human nature to avoid murder. But, why do we have crimes and such a high murder rate. Furthermore, it depends on each person. If it is in your human nature to be a good person and help others, then your morality is related to your human nature. Good morals enables humans to shape their personality and to an extent predict their future endearments. For example, as we grow older we know to talk with manners, to be respectable, and listen when someone else is talking. Furthermore, we grow more and learn to not cheat and to be kind to elders and young children. These are morals we learn to abide to, but also become human nature. Whereas, if an individual has an evil, harmful human nature, then their morality is also related to that and those are the people that hurt and kill others. • 26. Socrates s Theory Of Justice In Plato s Republic, Socrates argues for the importance of living a just life. However, Glaucon asks why any person favors the just life over an unjust one. Glaucon would like an answer regarding this type of justice, and if it is good only for its results or good in itself. Socrates argues that justice in the individual is the balance between sprit, reason, and desire (scc. 435a). Socrates account of justice, displays a life in which a justice provides benefits not only for the individual, but also society. In this case, Socrates account of justice, does not provide a sufficient reason to be just. Socrates parallel of justice and health cannot answer Glaucon s request fully. Therefore, without sufficiently proving the inherent good of justice his claim falls apart. Socrates account of justice stems from Glaucon s arrangement of the three categories of goods: inherently good, pleasurable, or both. Glaucon asks if there is any value in simply being a just person, he comes to find that if a person can be unjust and get away with it then the unjust life is better. The first of its three categories is meant for the things that are a kind of good we like for its own sake (scc.357c) . The second category is for what s good as a result of their consequences such as exercise for fitness and sex for pleasure and children. The main aspect, eating Kosher foods only. As well as, the many holidays celebrated there are certain foods we eat and certain foods we cannot eat. Some Jews have been eating Kosher for thousand of years because they follow kashrut (the Torah s dietary laws) (Freeman). I am Jewish, but do not keep Kosher because I am reform; however, at the Temple I belong to, it is kept Kosher. Keeping Kosher is a choice and followed by many Orthodox Jews. What are Kosher foods? According to the book of Genesis, vegetarianism was commanded by God as the ideal diet. However, in the course of the biblical narratives, this changed to include a variety of different animals (Staff). Animals allowed to be eaten are, any creature that both chews its cud and has split hooves...any fish that has both fins and scales... (Staff). Along with the specific foods, you are not allowed to mix dairy with meat. That is why at my Temple, we have separate kitchens to keep everything Kosher. Going shopping in your grocery store you can noticeably see some Kosher products, like Kosher pickles and Kosher hot dogs. The Icon Of Grease Will Never Lose Devotion The Icon of Grease Will Never Lose Devotion For a movie released in 1978 it still holds true to the drama of high school and the cliche of summer love. Grease became a classic for the same reasons as American Graffiti, it explored the life of teens and culture during the fifties. The film director Randal Kleiser cast a previous academy award nominee, John Travolta and rising Australian star Olivia Newton John and it now is the epitome of their careers. The musical is a romantic comedy that takes place in the late fifties with a summer fling between greaser Danny Zuko and good girl Sandy. They parted with the conclusion of summer, but when school resumes, they find themselves attending the same high school. It follows Danny and Sandy as well as the perspective friend groups the t birds and pink ladies. Grease is a musical that is both iconic and forever relatable with it s lively music, dancing, humor and simple story lines. Some would consider the casting in Grease to be a flaw because they are meant to portray teenagers and all the main actors and actresses were well into their twenties. Stockard Channing, who played Rizzo was thirty three when they began filming, Olivia Newton John was twenty eight, and John Travolta was twenty three. Analysis Change Mindset The first thing that needs to change is the professional nursing mindset of taking the break that they are entitled to. Nurses tend to feel that it is uncommon, unnecessary, and even wrong to take a break. Like one nurse put it: ...We don t always say, okay, go. Because they ve got the old Catholic guilt that nurses get embedded into them as part of the military training we go through (Happell et al., 2013, p. 644). Nurses need to realize that they are only hurting themselves and the patients they think they are helping by not taking breaks. Leaders play a role in helping identify the issue and using management skills to guide the unit into a healthier and more positive mindset (Brunges Foley Brinza, 2014). Communication To assess if there is a problem with the current setup, nurse managers and leaders can try to gauge employee satisfaction with surveys. If nurses indicate a problem with not getting their entitled break, then action should be taken. Communication is key so meetings can be called to try to brainstorm what the problem is i.e. are there too many patients or is there not enough coverage? Communication should be encouraged and suggestions and problems be brought to management attention. This can be stimulated with monthly unit meetings, having an open door policy, or even a suggestion box. They participated in many strikes, boycotts, and other activities protesting for workplace freedom. Another labor union was the American Federation of Labor founded in 1881 consisting of mostly skilled workers. Formed in 1903, the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and Women s Trade Union League also played a role in aiding workers, specifically female laborers, to gain work rights. These labor movements played significant roles in history because they influenced or forced employers to make changes in the workplace. One of the key issues that workers were fighting for was wages. During the 1870s to 1920s, employers often lowered the workers wages.
