Van Gogh s Portrait Of Dr. Gachet
Van Gogh Portrait of Dr. Gachet Art has been a big part of our lives for a long time now. That art
has been a way how people express how they feel, and tell a story to the world. For instance, one
of the famous portraits from Van Gogh was the portrait of Dr.Gachet , there are two versions of
the paintings, but they both show Gachet is sitting at the table, leaning his head with his right
arm the only difference is they are both slightly different with the color and style. The original
portrait was born in June 1890 at Auvers sur Oise, France, and the second painting was born in
June 1890 as well but it took location in MusГ©e d Orsay, Paris. The original painting was sold
on May 16, 1990, in a Japanese gallery for $82.5 million the highest ever price for a painting at
that moment and is still the highest paid for a portrait at a public auction. Van Gogh... Show more

The painting of Dr.Gachet is an oil canvas and measures to 67 cm x 58 cm (23.4 in x 22.0 in).
Dr. Gachet was one of the reasons why Gogh painted the portrait. In 1890, Van Gogh s brother
Theo was searching for a Saint RГ©my, that a former patient of the doctor Camille Pissarro
recommended Theo, Gogh s brother and told him about the interest Dr.Gachet has to work with
artists. His brother sent Gogh to his second home in Auvers and that is when Dr.Gachet and Van
Gogh met on May 20, 1890. Van Gogh and Dr. Gachet had a very close relationship that Gogh
would say he felt like he found himself a new brother . That is why he did a portrait of him as an
appreciation of his brother Dr.Gachet for bringing him into his care after coming out of the asylum
and took care of him during his final months of life. In 1890 Van Gogh wrote a letter to his

Similarities Between Martin Luther And Star Wood
Martin Luther, essentially a nobody with credentials, grew to become one of the most influential
persons in the 16th century. Though his message was fought off by the Catholic church, with the
help of the printing press and his followers, Luther s message was able to spread throughout
Europe. Similarly, taking a look at the message of may your brief candle shine brightly from
Once Upon a Timepiece by Starr Wood, both messages of history traveled through time due to the
unforeseen circumstances one calls history. By examining the choices each individual made, it is
clear to see how greed and circumstance play a deep role in both Andrew Pettegree s Brand Luther
and Starr Wood s Once Upon a Timepiece.
Brand Luther, the detailed story of how Martin Luther, a former monk, became the backbone of a
religious reformation starts off in Wittenberg: the home of maybe two thousand at the time of
Luther s arrival. Wittenberg would become known as the starting place of the reformation, but
prior to Luther s writings was a poor, unattractive town, with old, small, ugly wooden houses,
more like a village than a town (Pettegree 7). Yet ironically, with the help of Martin, Wittenberg
would thrive economically due to the printing press s success in sending and selling his every last
written word all over Europe. Though the printing press was only first established in Wittenberg in
1502, Wittenberg would become the printing capitol of the world by 1543 (Pettegree 11).

Stress In George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant And The...
Throughout time, the authors of the world have experienced different forms of stresses. The type
of stress experienced by the author helps shape their moral perspective. In the essays Shooting an
Elephant and The Next War, the authors moral perspectives are shaped by the economic stress of
the great depression. In Graves in Gallipoli and The Little Entente the moral perspective of the
authors is shaped by the stress created by the Great War. The stress created by the Great
Depression and the Great War shaped authors moral perspectives in different ways.
The main moral idea represented in the essay Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is how people
do things that they know are wrong but do anyways because that is what is expected of them.
The author, George Orwell, was born in 1903, and the essay was written in 1936. Some major
global events that occured during George s life before he wrote this essay are the Great War and
the Great Depression. During this time men had been forced to kill each other in the trenches
because this what was men were supposed to do. In the great depression, men were supposed to be

Cudahy states, This next war of Europe will place an almost insupportable burden on the
President a burden which will require patience, the traveling of vast experience, courage and
profound statesmanship. This statement shows Cudahy s moral idea of leaders having
responsibility for their nation s fates. Another example of Cudahy s support for this moral idea
goes as follows, Any President, by virtue of his great office possesses the power to plunge this
country into war, but by the same great authority, he can keep the peace if the people will but

The Causes Of The Indian Removal Act Of 1830
The Indian Removal Act of 1830 moved the natives from federal territory in Georgia to non
federal territory in Oklahoma. Signed by Andrew Jackson, the act forced natives on what was
known as the Trail of Tears where many of them died. Though, the views of Americans were
changed by the Natives since the time Jamestown was settled. As the Natives importance to the
Americans decreased, they became more of a nuisance. The settlers in New England were very
reliant on the Natives. They were the ones who taught them to hunt and live in these new
conditions. Natives were constantly put aside after the country was able to fend for themselves as
seen in the American Revolution. Later on, the court case of Worcester v. Georgia gave the
declaration that Natives were not technically a part of our country and they seemed to be just
taking up space. Through these things, it is very clear that Natives were a problem that our country
did not want to deal with.
Many people do not know of the main reasons for the movement of the Native American Tribes.
The causes were that President Jackson had very little positive actions and policies which
inevitably caused the Trail of Tears. The tribes that were required to move were considered the five
civilized tribes, and their names were the Creeks, Chickasaws, Seminoles, Cherokees, and
Choctaws. The first action that leads to the migration was the fact that Jackson did not go through
with his promise that the migration would be voluntary. Then he

Community Oriented Policing Pros And Cons
The chief of the Abington Police, Chief William (Bill) Kelly came to the campus on Thursday to
talk with the criminal justice class about policing. Chief Kelly has been serving for forty three
years between police forces in the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania and has been a police chief for
thirty three years. With his years of experience, Chief Kelly talked about primarily three main ideas:
Problem Solving, Community Oriented Policing and Abington s Approach to Policing.
Problem Solving policing is an officer s ability to assess and properly address any given situation.
To utilize problem solving successfully, it is necessary to use the three types of knowledge police
officers use when faced with a situation: Classical, Situational, and Procedural. Chief Kelly then
proceeded to use these principal to explain the events 9/11, being that ... Show more content on

Not only has the department won several international and national awards, but there is a huge
partnership between the community and the police force. Chief Kelly mentioned that is was all
to accredit to the COPPSSAT program that the department has. COPPSSAT has four main goals
for all officers that have made this department so successful. The first goal was to actually asses
and look at the criminal rates to show where and what types of criminal are predominate in the
area. From there the officers try to help those at risk. By using the mindset of establishing a good
relationship with the community, it has helped the department reach out to the minority groups
located in Abington. So if any sort of discrimination fears against police are an issue, these groups
are working with the police to help form a better relationship. Arguably the most important goal,
Chief Kelly set a goal to ASK the Community of their Concerns. By focusing on these goals, it has
helped the Abington police force stand out from their counterparts; this is the reason for all of the

Public Opinion Of The War
To what extent is public opinion of the war in Afghanistan influenced by the nature of the war?
After the September 2001 terrorist attacks against the world trade centre in the USA, the British
public revealed growing support for joining America in its mission aimed to capture the ringleader
of international terrorism, Osama Bin Laden, and ending the rule of the Talibangovernment of
Afghanistan. In 2001, approximately 65% of the British public supported sending troops to
Afghanistan. In the ten years after the conflict began, public support for this military intervention
has declined significantly.
The Afghan war has triggered the British Election Study to devote a section of the study to public
opinion of the Afghan war, regularly asking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, most scholars who research support for military intervention focus their research around a
cost benefit analysis, for example Gelpi ad lib (2009), Larson (1996) and Clarke (2009). Therefore

focus primarily on the cost benefit analysis aspect of public opinion.
Alexander Moseley s theory of just war (2009) summarises conditions necessary for a nation s
involvement to be just and provides a good framework to base scientific research around. Research
dating back to the thirteenth century shows that public opinion declines as the war is perceived to
be no longer worth fighting or just . His conditions are as follows: (Note that casualty count is
omitted)
1) The cause is just
2) The warring party must have suffered some injustice at the hands of the opponent
3) It was declared by a proper authority
4) Nation s intentions are righteous
5) There is reasonable chance of success

In an Information Age, we can easily solve mathematical equations with the use of calculator
instead of solving it manually or using abacus which is limited only to some countries, we can use
computers to research almost everything, there is also the mobile phones which makes us
connected to each other to talk about the incoming projects, assignments and to take pictures of our
lessons instead of taking down notes. Although there are many advantages of using Technology,
there are also some risks that the students may encounter. Abusive use of Cell phones, Computers
and the Internet may waste too much time because instead of studying they might just play games,
chat with their friends, browse the web that is not related to their study points, another is that not
all the information we got from the web is accurate, there are some information that are inaccurate
or biased information since it can be edited by other and may give us wrong information.
Statement of the Problem 1. What is the importance of technology to students? 2. What are the
commonly used gadgets used by the students? 3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of

Ethnicity In Nigeria
Nigeria is part of the 16 countries in West Africa. Nigeria has different groups of ethnicity and has
a population of about 186 million. Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groups. The ethnic groups have
different belief and practices (VANGUARD,2017). The country is well known for its oil natural
resources which provides most of their gross domestic product. The largest groups are the Hausa in
the north, the Yoruba in the southwest and the Igbo (or Ibo) in the southeast, who account for
around a fifth of the population each. The languages of these three groups can therefore be used in
government. Other large groups include the Ijaw in the east and the Fulani in the north. Nigeriais

and other cultural practices strongly encourage.
In the 13 northern states, the vast majority of people are Muslim. The Hausa have been Muslims
for almost a thousand years, having been converted to Islam by Arab traders and merchants from
the 10th century. Sharia law was introduced into the northern Nigerian states from 2000. This is a
code for how Muslims should lead their lives. It is thought to have been drawn up by Muslim
scholars in the early centuries of Islam, with parts of it taken directly from the Koran. As in other
countries, northern Nigeria uses the code as a basis for its criminal law. However, some of the

July 16, 2017 Feminism in Othello
The male dominated society has hardly left any stone unturned in empowerment of women.
Williams Shakespeare s tragic play, Othello, reveals a detailed illustration of victimization of
females in society. Throughout the play, the three women Desdemona, Emilia, and Bianca are
rejected by their spouses, yet still cherish them completely. All three of the women are in an
unbalanced marriage where the women in the relationships exert more feelings for their self
centered husband who are not able respond. As the males throughout the play create a downfall in a
society that is somewhat caused by the lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brabantio encountered Othello for running away secretly with Desdemona without his approval,
he accuses Othello of being a foul their as if Desdemona was his piece of property. Brabantio
repeatedly insisted Othello had stolen his daughter as if she were a valuable object as he states O,
thou foul thief, where hast thou stowed my daughter? (1.2.80 81). As Iago speaks to Brabantio and
plants the idea of loss of power into Brabantio s mind. Iago cautions him saying, Your heart is
burst, you have lost half your soul (1.1 88 90). This quote highlights the fact that in Elizabethan
society, Brabantio, like other fathers, considered Desdemona s body to be his possession.
Brabantio attempts to separate the couple as he believes he has control over her whether he
wants to give away his daughter or not. Desdemona even points out that her mother chose
Brabantio over her father. Despite her ability to argue for her marriage, Desdemona is still seen
as owing to either Brabantio or Othello. Both Brabantio and Othello were worried about the loss
of control and authority over the female desires when both individuals want to keep the possession
to themselves. Desdemona is treated more as if she was a piece of property that is being
exchanged between two men.
Nevertheless, a stronger character such as Emilia has accepted her role in society, as she is
considered weaker than men and are recognized to be property belonging to the man whom they are
associated with. Iago,

How The Molecules Is Capable Of Transporting Of The Cell...
Abstract The reasoning behind this experiment was to be able to specify which molecules are
capable of transporting in and out of the cell through the process of diffusion. Diffusion is the
process where molecules move from a level of high concentration to low concentration and
eventually stops once the equilibrium is reached. This study was able to demonstrate that glucose,
starch, and silver nitrate were all existing at different amounts. Results began to show after around
40 minutes, but when we first started the experiment, no particles were present.
Introduction The technique in which molecules are able to move in and out of a cell is by the
process of diffusion. Diffusion takes the molecules from a high level of concentration to a low level
of concentration. This method will be tested by taking different solutions, such as glucose, starch,
and sodium chloride, pouring them into a test tube, adding reagents to them, and analyzing which
molecules are able transfer. Benedict s reagent will be added to glucose, iodine to starch, and silver
nitrate to sodium chloride. Glucose, starch, and sodium chloride will all be poured into the
dialysis bag, which will be noted as the cell, and will eventually be examined along with the
extracellular fluid, which is the fluid outside of the bag, or around the cell. The different directions
that water is able to flow inside and outside of the cell includes hypertonic, isotonic, and hypotonic.

I Attend A Cultural Event
For the assignment, attend a cultural event, I choose to visit a mosque. I have been extremely
intrigued by the Arabic cultures. However, I have never spoken to a Muslim woman. Therefore, I
was very exited to visit a mosque and to attend a meeting with females who are giving a lecture
about; the woman and their Hijab. The woman who gave the tour of the mosque was a Sunni
Muslim. What is the larger culture within the Islam. The Muslim religion was very negatively in
the media the last years, and a lot of people bias and stereotype in seconds when they see a
Muslim woman wearing a Hijab. Why? Are scared of the unknown? Time to do some research and
find the woman behind the scarf.
The mosque I visited was the one closest to ASU, in 1960 the first Muslims started to go to
college and in the 70ish, they bought a house near campus so that they had a place to go to and
do their prayers. The facility did grow rapidly and in 1984. They build the mosque. The building is
a copy of the dome of the rock in Jerusalem, and the community is self sustaining. 2500 people from
every continent visit the mosque regularly.
A Muslim has to pray five times a day, the first one when the sun during sunset and the last prayer
is during sunrise. If they feel the need, they can do extra prayers. The average prayer takes about
10 minutes, and is in Arabic. The prayer is the connection to God; you can also compare it with
meditating, finding your inner peace. I have witnessed one of those prayers, and

Rhetorical Devices In Fearless Of Taylor Swift
As the result declares Rhetorical as the top most used figure of speech, it can be inferred that the
album Fearless of Taylor Swift, mainly indicates lyrics that are in a question form. Proof to this
are lyrics found on You Belong With Me Song which is a part of the Album stating Can t you see
that I m the one who understands you? and Why can t you see you belong with me? . The album
also indicated lyrics that are to represent something which is not directly stated and these are
based on the result that Metonymy had garnered the most used type of figurative language. An
example to this is a line found from the song You re Not Sorry which states This is the last straw
. In modern time s straw is used to connect things like when we can t reach the soda inside its
bottle. But in this case, Metonymy of figurative language is applied as it is used to represent
chance or to be direct this is the last chance . Meanwhile, it has also been discovered that a series
of lines falls under understatement. Evidence to this is a line from the song White Horsewhich states

Computer Technology and its Advancement in Nursing
As nursing students, we are taught to utilize the nursing process in almost every aspect of our work.
The nursing process communicates and coordinates care with all other clinical disciplines. It assists
in coordinating discharge planning, education, teaching, and transition of care. Utilizing
informatics and healthcare technologies is one of the nursing essentials of the Master s in
Education Program. Nursing is the hub of information flow in all types of healthcare organizations.
Developing the science and technology of nursing informatics will enhance the information
available to nurses in clinical practice management, education, and research. The American Nurses
Association or ANA defines nursing informatics as, a specialty that integrates nursing science,
computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and
knowledge in nursing practice . Nursing informatics first got its start in the late 1960 s when the 1st
computer systems were implemented in hospitals. Nursing informatics is based on information

The problem with this model was that it was prone to deadly fires in rear end collisions. Ford s
internal documents showed the company knew of the potential problem but chose not to fix it,
calculating that it would be cheaper to pay out possible injury claims. Following the deaths of
three teenage girls in Indiana, Ford was indicted for negligent homicide although the company
was acquitted (Levin, 2015). This model was finally recalled in 1978 and the vehicle was
installed with new part to deflect the contact in rear end collisions. The Ford Explorer also
caused an ethical issue in the 2000 s when more than 100 people did in this model. Many of the
Ford Explorers were equipped with Firestone tires which caused a debate as to whether or not the
vehicles were too large and prone to rollovers The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
pointed the finger at Firestone tires, some of which reportedly had a tendency to shred. Firestone
recalled 6.5 million tires. Ford in 2001 ousted its chief executive officer, Jacques Nasser (Levin,
2015).

Second Paper #4 (Democracy)
A Proposition To Abolish Democracy
In the modern west, democracy is generally conceived as the most free regime. Democracy is
uniquely characterized by majority rule. This gives its citizens the privilege to vote, overturn, and
motion, with the purpose of best representing the desires of the population. Not only do societies
strive for democracy to gain political freedom, but also personal freedom. Traditionally, we equate
government intervention and regulation with harsh restrictions that devitalize our personal
freedom, however, according to Socrates; regulation is necessary in order to experience genuine
freedom . In the Republic, Socrates discusses his tripartite regime in which promotes optimal
justice and happiness for its citizens. However, if we fully accept Socrates republic, this does not
necessarily mean we have to reject democracy entirely. This idea will be furthered explored
throughout the entirety of this essay. While Socrates describes democracy as the fairest regime, he
refutes this claim by exposing the disastrous effect lack of structure has in a democracy, producing
only spurious pleasures and, therefore, failing to achieve Socrates s justice, (demonstrated in his
republic) which produces genuine pleasures that greatly benefit the individual and the city.
Socrates uses a democratic society as a foundation to build his republic. Socrates says,

Jean-Jacques Rousseau s Film Triumph Of The Will
In this day, an age that we call the 21st century, as of 2015 it is recorded that more than 150
million people are playing video games around the country. Video creators are just like movie
directors they must get the plot for their story from somewhere. During the semester, we have
examined many directors around different culture and study their nation state. Which is the point
that they want to come across in their movie. For example, Jean Jacques Rousseau describes the

ACTION RESEARCH IN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT A FRAMEWORK FOR
RELEVANT AND RIGOROUS RESEARCH by Dag Näslund University of North Florida and
Lund University Rahul Kale University of North Florida and Antony Paulraj University of North

INTRODUCTION Scholars in the field of business management have frequently debated the
relative importance of rigor and relevance in business research. In fact, there are an increasing
number of articles that discuss the problems associated with the lack of relevance in published
business research. Relevant research develops insights that help managers understand themselves
and their organizations better (Markides 2007, p.765). On the ... Show more content on

In spite of its potential to address relevant research questions, few published action research based
articles exist within the field of supply chain management (Näslund 2002). In fact, these studies
are so rare that they almost constitute the White Space of research in the field (Frankel and
Näslund 2005). One reason for this reluctance to adopt AR can be attributed to the lack of rigor in
some of the previously published works. Alvesson (1996, p.456) wrote ...much qualitative research
is as superficial as questionnaire studies. Case research has, unfortunately, been used as an excuse
for industrial tourism visiting lots of organisations without any pre conceived ideas as to what is
being researched (Voss, Tsikriktsis, and Frohlich 2002, p.196). Similarly, a criticism of AR is that
it more resembles consulting versus rigorous research; that is, consulting masquerading as research
(Coughlan and Coghlan 2002, p.237). Naturally, being applied and relevant cannot and should not
be an excuse for doing research that is not rigorous. Accordingly, when a rigorous methodology is
adopted, AR can provide significant research contributions for both practice and academia. With the
belief that rigor and relevance are essential

Implicit Gender Messages in Advertisement If you have ever taken a psychology or sociology
class, you have heard of the film by Jean Kilbourne, Killing Us Softly 4, which maps out a variety
of tropes found in advertisement with regards to gender roles in American society. Some of the
themes are, but not limited to objectification, ageism, and dismemberment which are the tropes that
I have decided to focus on for this research project. The laws surrounding women objectification is
slim, and it is necessary to start implementing laws that protect women and how advertisements
affect the minds of young women growing up today. Kilbourne states in the film that the majority

The message of this ad can be interpreted as a women s face being the only important part of her
and everything else appears to be in the shadows or darkness because it is less important. This is a
great example of Objectification Theory, (Fredrickson and Roberts, 1997) which states that women
are seen as objects, and therefore sexualized, so that they can be used by others. This woman s face
is the only important part of her. The slogan of the ad is a miracle sleeping cream/for more
rested, younger looking skin, which is relaying a message that beauty is for the young and that
their product performs miracles. Additionally, it suggests that staying young and beautiful are
synonymous as well as a job that a woman has to work at even when they are unconscious
because youth/beauty is a 24 hour obsession. There is no real testing or laws surrounding these
products and how they are advertised. At least none that I can find. Saying that it is an old
product and it is doctor approved means nothing, and yet we still trust it. There is also a stamp that
endorses the product to suggest the legitimacy of it because it reads quality tested / good

European Colonization Of The Colonies
When Ferdinand Magellan and Isabelle of Castile decided to fund 15 year old Christopher
Columbus for a voyage to find a water route, he ends up failing but in the process finds what is
now known as the United States. This interesting turn of events causes the colonization of
Europeans coming to the Americas to gain religious freedom, wealth, food, and land. As
multiple colonies started to fall, newer colonies began to think about things that would help
their colony succeed. Certain colonies have very similar rules and regulations to help the
growing colonies succeed while others had different ways of going about the successful path.
With all the religious fighting and disagreements happening in England, a small group of
Separatist Puritans came to America for religious freedom. Similarities between Massachusetts,
New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Cincinnati, is that they all came to the Americas to find
religious freedom. Although they grew their own food, the soil was too thin and rocky, the
climate was too harsh to be able to produce cash crops (Sarsourac, 4). Along with not being able
to successfully produce cash crops because of the land, it was also very cold there making the
winters hard, These four colonies looked to lumbering, metal working, fishing, and fur trading to
grow their economies (Sarsourac,5). In later years, these four colonies also took up the task of
selling slaves to the southern colonies for more power and money. These colonies consisted of

Mr. Keating Carpe Diem In Death Poet s Society
Most men live lives of quiet desperation describes the boys at the start of the movie Death Poets
Society. However, Mr. Keating s saying, Carpe Diem, influenced the path the boys took
throughout the movie. Most of the boys took this advice to heart, leading them to change, while
others decided to ignore the teachings. Throughout the movie, Todd gather courage which
helped him change from a shy antisocial boy to an open and expressive one. This is evident
through the fact that Todd revealed the truth to Mr. Keating in front of authority that could get
him expelled. This implies that Todd grew to believe that Mr. Keating was a friend that he could
open up to. Otherwise, he would have never revealed what happened when he was signing the
paper. Also, earlier in the movies, Mr. Keating forced Todd to recite a beautiful poem he
composed himself. This shows Todd that his words do matter to the people around him, and that
he does not have to hide them. It also foreshadows that he is bound to change later in the movie.

My Love For Art
Ever since I was a child I have always had a creative mind. My weekends as a little girl revolved
around trips to the craft store, crazy projects in the kitchen and dance routines. During the summer
months, I would make the most elaborate journals, with each journal entry paired with their unique
picture, many of which that were either pop up or holographic (sparkly nail polish was a must).
Within my high schoolcareer, I took the rigorous, I.B. higher level

style warped and developed into my own. Towards senior year, my painting had a signature
style, recognizable even without my name signed in the lower corners. I participating in local
art competitions and was inspired by students my age and their love for art too. When
considering what I wanted to pursue career wise in life I knew I would be restricting myself if I
did not follow my heart and go a creative route. Fashion merchandising was a perfect blend of
business and creativity. It is an industry that never stops and is limitless in opportunities. As a
Texas resident, I eagerly applied to schools only out of state. I wanted to jump into college and
surround myself with diverse people in a foreign area. The University of South Carolina caught my
eye because of its nationally recognized program in Fashion Merchandising. I toured the university

Is Heathcliff Succumbing To Human Nature
Consistent with most of Emily Bronte s characters in Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff is a
manifestation of natural forces acting involuntarily under the pressure of his own nature (Pittock

Throughout the novel, the characters, along with readers and critics, question Heathcliffs nature . Is

the novel as a sublime take on reality, Heathcliff represents sublime humanity. People characterize

Our True Nationality Is Mankind
Our true nationality is mankind. ― H.G. Wells
Today, the scourge of nationalism continues to infect humanity. Without doubt, in some circles,
nationalism is hotly debated. For most people, however, the concept of nationalism is rarely
questioned. In fact, it s a foregone conclusion that people should love the nation in which they
reside. Some people even take great pride in the fact that they were arbitrarily born in a specific
geographical location. Unfortunately, like religion or capitalism, nationalism is alive and well in
the 21st century.
Throughout the history of human civilization, people have been creating, critiquing and altering
institutions. For instance, people have been condemning religion for centuries, indeed millennia.
Yet the institution of religion still remains a dominant force in modern society. Without question,
religious institutions and practices have morphed, dare I say, evolved, over the centuries. But the
fundamental concept that human beings exist within an abstract framework of Gods, mythologies,
symbols, and so forth, still remains.
In short, it takes an extremely long time to change ideologies and practices. On the other hand, that
doesn t mean conversations about such topics should be off limits or discouraged. Quite the
contrary: such conversations are essential, especially today. As the legendary science fiction writer
Ursula K. Le Guin recently said, We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the

Similarities Between A Streetcar Named Desire And A...
The battle of the sexes has been going on for a millennium. The way that men and women view
everything from love to children to career choices is strikingly different. Today, men and women
seem to be much more in sync with these views. However, in the post World War II era of A
Streetcar Named Desire and Their Eyes Were Watching God, they are very different. Although
both works of literature focus on the theme of desire, the authors deal with this topic quite
differently. For example, Blanche continues to rely on and chase after men which only leads to
her unhappiness and insanity; whereas, Janie learns to control her desire as she goes through her
long journey of self discovery and new found independence. Therefore, despite the similar theme of
desire, both characters embark on a journey which takes them to opposite destinations: Blanche, an
insane asylum and Janie, a whole new world of self reliance. In the play, A Streetcar Named Desire,
Blanche Duboiscraves attention from the opposite sex to formulate her self worth and self
confidence. She is the stereotypical woman of the time who seems unable to exist without a man
to provide for and look after her. Women during this time had no ability to live on their own
because of social norms. Blanche portrays these limitations throughout the play but particularly in
her thoughts following her young husband s death when she accepts that she will now be forced
to move on to some fresh territory (Williams 122). This desire impacts all aspects of her life: her
career, her love life, her reputation, her home and eventually her sanity. In an attempt to escape her
problems, she runs away to her sister s house hoping that Stella and her husband, Stanley, will take
care of her. This is when author Tennessee Williams
introduces the three key motifs: Desire,
Cemeteries, and Elysian Fields, all of which portrays Blanche s voyage to her demise. In scene
one, Williams mentions these three key terms, They told me to take a streetcar named Desire,
and then transfer to one called Cemeteries and ride six blocks and get off at Elysian Fields
(Williams 117). Blanche s journey on New Orleans streetcars represents the journey of her own life.

The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov
Anton Chekhov, like Henrik Ibsen, is considered a prominent writer on culture and society.
Chekhov s works are noteworthy, in part, because of the lives they portray. In The Cherry
Orchard, he writes of a world shackled by a caste system, and he exposes the need for reform. As
the title states, the play is set in a cherry orchard. The play revolves around an aristocratic family
and other minor characters, but the problem is the family is broke. Chekhov uses the symbolic
characters memories as a way to portray the servant , the aristocracy, merchant, and the
intelligentsia classes, four of the main cast of russian society during the early 1900s.
Madame Ranevsky declares, You people ought to go and see plays; you ought to try to see
yourselves; to see what dull life you lead, and how much too much you talk. (22) She is referring
to how she went to see a play and how it reflected her family and the minor characters. This quote
is significant because this is embodiment of what The Cherry Orchard tries to achieve. Chekhov
accomplishes this, using memory as a motif, to delve further into the symbolic characters and their
representation of the four main characters experiences, life struggles, and interactions with other
classes in Russian society in the early 1900s. The use of Firs memories lends the reader a sense of
the lost generation. Servants before the Liberation are named the lost generation because they
never experienced life beyond servitude. Firs says, I ve been

Abstract
This paper explores about the cultural differences between Japanese culture and Indian culture and
how Reliance industries deal with Japanese cultural values while doing business in Japan. This
study also reveals company s market, pricing and positioning strategies.
Culture at Reliance Industries
Reliance group has a vision of becoming the top integrated and the world s largest power
company. Company is building some of the biggest power plants in the shortest time periods
throughout the country. The company hardly believe in their employees and realize that the
company will remain incomplete without their employees therefore company invest first in them
before investing in the business. Reliance is also constantly exploring options to add to its
capacities in existing business operations (RIL Introduction, 2006). Reliance group has an
excellent work culture and this would be considered by the Japanese because the majority of the
Japanese companies always strive to develop extraordinary people and teams who follow their
company s philosophy. However Reliance industries will enter into the Japanese market with good
business policies but there are lots of differences between Indian work culture and Japanese work

examined the report and noticed in a 3 minute timed writing, I have achieved a 47 wpm with one

Kylie Jenner Research Papers
If you don t know who Kylie Jenner is, then you re probably spending so much time in the
university library that you got disconnected to the outside world or you re potentially a television
hater and never bothered knowing what s going on. Kylie Jenner is literally everywhere, from
television advertisements to your must watch reality shows, to fashionposters plastered on your
dreamt boutique to that humongous billboard greeting you on the subway. She is one of the most
loved models of this generation, and she sets fashion trends that we never disregard, or put forth
some fashion inspirations that we mimic so avidly that we thought it should give us the creeps.
Kylie Jenner is a true blue testament that if one influences other to feel good about themselves,
then it s easier for success to be reached.
After the bomb that she dropped upon the release of the new Kylie Jenner Lip Kits, the prodigal
daughter of fashion and mainstream media yet again shocked everyone when she announced just
recently that she would be opening up a new clothing brand. People from all over the fashion halls

Kylie never stopped the momentum of her hard earned fame and proceeded with this online store,

Psychological Truths in Macbeth and the Poem My Last...
I am studying the characters of Macbeth and the Duke; how they can be considered perturbed
characters. The play, Macbeth and poem, My Last Duchess both show psychological truths and
insights into the characters. While the Duke shows himself to be perturbed straight away in the
poem, Macbeth s phrenic deterioration takes place and develops as the play proceeds. Macbethis a
tragic play indited by Shakespeare during the English Renaissance in 1606. The play is habituated
by Shakespeare in order to make the play more eventful. The play, at the time was considered
controversial. The conception of the committing regicide when killing the king was controversial;
the king was considered to have been sent by God and was only answerable to God... Show more

Macbeth makes a deliberate cull to take the route to evil. He is responsible for the death of King
Duncan, his two slumbering sentinels, Banquo, Lady Macduff and her children and Young Siward.
Lady Macbeth who is Macbeth s wife withal kenned to be dearest partner of greatness but at the
terminus she is his fiend like queen . She is the most fascinating and involute character in the
play; without her there is no play. She is a deeply zealous woman who lusts for power and
position. Early in the play she seems to have a vigorous character even more vigorous than
Macbeths. Lady Macbeth persuades him to contravene his nature and more preponderant
judgement. However by the terminus she is reduced to a piteous figure, trepidacious of the dark.
Immediately after she culminates reading the letter, Lady Macbeth s mind goes to work. The
words shalt be magically reflect those of the Witches prophecy. Lady Macbeth s phrenic
conceptions turn to possible failings in her husband. He is too plenary of the milk of human
benevolence to commit murder; he would be great, he would have a high position. Although he is
a great warrior, he is sensitive and caring. unsex me here Lady Macbeth distributes these words
after receiving Macbeths letter. This conjures an image of a character calling to the supernatural
world to make her hard and ruthless. There are a plethora of references to male and female
qualities in the play.

she being Brand / new by E. E. Cummings
In the poem, she being Brand/ new by E.E. Cummings, the writer has chosen to use symbols and
unique capitalization in parts of the poem to reference a sexual interaction with a woman. The
opening sentence using a capital B in she being Brand/ new (lines 1 2) leads the reader into the
idea that the woman he is with is a virgin and untouched. He never speaks of his actual sexual
experience, but gives readers an almost humorous ride of his sexual encounter. In lines 10 15,

car parts not working correctly and having to tinker with them to get them going with that of
maybe a new sexual experience not going right. The readers will see that the driver of the car
would be considered a little self centered and proud of his sexual abilities by the word choices of
Cummings. In 1920 s when this poem was written sex was seen as kind of a naughty, forbidden
and sometimes hidden experience, Cummings uses the car to exemplify how the rush of driving a
car and the rush a sexual climax are similar. In using the capital O in, her radiator made sure her
springs were O (9) Cummings symbolizes the ultimate orgasm. The poem continues throughout with
stopping lines and pausing and starting lines much like a car would sputter and

Business Structures Within The United States
One of the most important decisions when starting a company is to determine the type of legal
entity best suited for your business. Each country has different legal business entities under its
regulatory framework. According to Dewhurst (2014), the most common types of business
structures within the United States are: proprietorship, partnership, corporation, limited liability
company, and cooperative. Additionally, there are other types of legal entities derived from the
association of different corporations, such as joint ventures.
A proprietorship is the most basic business entity (Dewhurst, 2014), in which an owner receives
all profits and is legally liable for the obligations related to the business. It is the easiest structure
to set up, register and maintain, and additional tax incomes are not legally separated from the
person. Its biggest disadvantage is that the personal property of the owner are not legally protected
in case of financial obligations or company debts (Pakroo, 2004).
A partnership is related to any business entity conformed for two or more owners, not registered as
a corporation or a limited liability company. The partnership can be of two types: General
partnership or limited partnership. In a limited partnership, one of the owners generally acts as the
general partner assuming responsibility for managing the business decisions, while the limited
partner only acts as a financial contributor to the business without any participation on business

Rachel Ruysch Research Paper
What would you consider today s most desired status symbols? A mansion or a beach side
home? A designer handbag or clothes? In Rachel Ruysch s day it was a simple tulip. Looking at
her floral still life paintings can reveal an entire hidden world. Rachel Ruysch was born in 1664 in
the northern Netherlands. She was born into a wealthy and prominent family; her father a scientist
and her mother the daughter of an architect. Her father was a professor of anatomy and botany and
also an amateur painter. From a young age Ruysch would draw and paint the insects and plants in
her fathers collection. At age fifteen, she was an apprentice to William van Aeist, who was a
prominent flowerpainter in Amsterdam at the time and she studied with him until... Show more

The Netherlands became the largest importers of new and exotic plants and flowers from around
the world (Robinson). Once valued primarily for their use as herbs or medicine, flowers became
newly appreciated simply for their beauty and fragrance. They became prized luxuries and desirable
status symbols for the wealthy. Botanists and gardeners sought the rarest specimens imported from
overseas trade and the tulip was the most exotic.
Flowers In a Vase was a paintingthat Ruysch painted after 1700. This composition balances a
swirl of twisting blossoms along a diagonal axis (Chadwick 138). The variety of blooms and
colors, and the painter s subtle touch and impeccable surface treatment distinguish her work
(Chadwick 138). Flowers lavishly spill out of the vase, filling the entire picture space. Some are
in full bloom, others droop and wilt, as leaves and curving stems entwine throughout (Robinson).
The lighting in this painting falls on the flowers from the bottoms left to top right, leaving the
closed peonies at the edge in shadow. Complementary colors create harmony, as warm yellows and
rose balance cool blues and greens. Against the dark background, her sophisticated palette creates a
flawless sense of depth and three dimensionality (Wieseman). And looking more closely, the viewer

Seaworld And The Seaworld Corporation
Rachel Ferguson
Mrs. Guirguis

1 March 2017
SeaWorld of Hurt For thousands of years orcas, or killer whales, roamed the oceans in peace.
Untouched by human hands until the freedom of some had to come to an end. The SeaWorld
corporation captured multiple wild orcas until they were banned from almost every body of water.
Since then, they have bred and shipped orcas between each of their parks around the world.
However, this act did not go unnoticed. Animal rights activists have expressed their feelings on the
inhumane living conditions of these majestic creatures and they have not and will not back down.
Without hesitation, the SeaWorldcorporation made many claims as to how their animals in
captivity live more fulfilling lives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only that, but orcas swim up to 100 miles a day (Bradford). With that being said, captive
orcas live in a concrete pool where they are barely able to swim comfortably. They are also
forced to live with orcas that may not share the same culture/pod as them which leads to
aggression, injuries, and sometimes even death. Dominance is a key factor in an orca society and
having more than one dominant orca in a small area where they cannot distance themselves can
cause a future of lashing out (Caperthwaite). Unlike SeaWorld corporation officials may lead one
to believe, captive orcas are less safe than wild orcas.
SeaWorld is home to 22 orcas between its three parks and six at Loro Parque in Spain (WDC).
Tilikum, the male orca responsible for most of the newborns in SeaWorld s captivity, The Fate of
Captivewas the most talked about orca. Not only was he one of the largest, but he was responsible
for the death of three people (Cowperthwaite). Most of the young orcas inhabiting the three parks
are direct offspring from Tilikum due to artificial insemination. The SeaWorld breeding program,
which has recently come to an end, was another factor protestors were taking into account when
declaring the corporation inhumane. Another is Kasatka, one of the oldest female orcas and is
considered the matriarch of the San Diego pod (WDC). Trainers classify Kasatka as a great

Essay on The Media Effects American Culture
The media is the means of communication, as radio and television, newspapers, and magazines that
reach or influence people widely. The growth of the media has spread vastly over the years. The
media is also known as a channel of mass communication. Mass Media incorporates all those
mediums through which information is distributed to the masses. These include advertisements,
magazines, newspapers, radio, television, and the Internet (Sebastian). The mediaintroduces many
new things to the public, both positive and negative. The media harms the American culture by
creating these celebrity idols, the glorification of violence, sex, and drug and alcohol abuse. The

People become consumed in this fame and money way of living that they will do whatever it takes
to be just like the rich (Coleman). The media puts the reality into things with a twist of any kind of
story, quote, or anything that appeals to the public. This showed Americans that the media can
negatively affect anyone s life forever.
The glorification of violence, drug abuse and other unhealthy habits has a major role in the
outburst of unfortunate incidents where children have gotten extremely violent and out of
control. Be it the advertisements touting products that promise a fairer skin or bods to die for or
the television shows and films, which portray violence, sexually explicit content and abusive
language. There are music videos and rock bands that give out the message that alcohol; drugs
and sex are an inevitable part of life. These ideals created by the media might not be necessarily
appropriate (Manohar). There is this media frenzy going on in America that not only teens are
being affected, but also adults. There are misleading commercials or articles in the newspaper that
lead people to believe things that are not true. Tabloids, television, and the internet will do anything
to attract attention and for people to buy whatever they are selling.
One the other hand, the media is a positive influence on the American culture as well. The media

Financial stability is when your financial plan and system is resistant to economic shocks, it
means to be able to manage risks and your arrangement of payments accordingly to your living or

In my opinion, financial stability is being able to exceed that cost. A person should be able to live
within there means and still save money for later, that is financial stability to me. It means more
than just paying your bills and expenses because what if, one day your whole entire house burns
down as well as all of your beloved belongings? Are you going to be positive that you and your
family will be okay? It all comes down to being prepared for financial curve balls, because you
never know what could happen; life sure does know how to surprise us. I feel like if you re able to
get all of your needs taken care of, still be able to do something s that you want and plan for your
future ( put money away for savings) then you re living right. It may not always be the easiest
thing to do or conquer, but it s a goal most everyone is trying to reach. Having to worry about
how you and your family are going to survive is a stressful and scary feeling that I m sure no one
wants to feel.
A good question is how does a person acquire financial stability? In my opinion, one of the main
reasons so many people are financially unstable is because they can afford there lifestyle. If you
work at McDonald s a Mercedes Benz might be slightly out of your reach. I believe that a person
that could acquire financial stability if they were realistic with the lifestyle that they want to live
and the amount of money that they make. With that being the first step I

The Quiet American Movie Vs Book
Philip Noyce s version of Graham Greene s novel The Quiet American to film was a large
success. It stayed pretty close to the book, and kept the personalities of the character s the same.
What I respected about the movie was that the director chose to film in actual Vietnamese
locations and without compromise, boldly sticking to the novel by not letting the Americans
come out of the story too kindly. It was filmed greatly and he captured so many details of
Vietnam. Brenden Fraiser and Michael Caine did an amazing job portraying their characters. The
first difference that you can see is that the book was in first person and the movie was in third.
This being said, there were scenes added into the movie that was not in the book. I wasn t

He has negative outlook on what seems like everything. I personally had a hard time reading the
book because of the negativity from Fowler. Pyle in the book was the opposite. I was more
interested in Pyle because of his softer nature. What I like about Pyle is how he would stick up
and defend Phuong when Fowler made rude comments. Fowler said that Phuong was merely a
beautiful tool for his sexual pleasures. Pyle responded That s a dirty crack. I won t have her
insulted. You have no right... (TQA, Graham Greene, 1955, pg 78) This shows Pyle s passion and
soft nature. Michael Caine is excellent as Fowler in the movie. He plays an aging unmotivated but
skilled reporter very good. On the other hand Fowler in the film is a lot more vulnerable, especially
as the film goes on, and his weaknesses begins to show. The movie never shows Fowler telling
Pyle how he feels about Phuong. He says that he is detached but then becomes very involved in
what is going on around him. With that action I feel it shows that he does care about Phuong but
doesn t know how to handle it. Thomas Fowler is a complex character, and it is hard to compare
him to his character in the book. The movie doesn t show his personality and depth of character
as the book does. The movie portrays him more likeable with more dignity and less bitter. Fowler
s character does still give us that deep sense of how the political he is. Although I was
disappointed because I feel they took a huge part of the book and tossed it out by changing

A Dream For A World Without Food Labels Essay
A Dream for a World Without Food Labels In his essay My Dream Food Label, Mark Bittman
makes the case that current food labels, while providing the consumer with ample information,
do not indicate whether or not the food contained is really beneficial . Bittman argues that labels
should additionally involve clear graphics, such as a traffic light indicating the healthiness of the
food, as well as criteria such as hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, etc. These criteria would ideally
also include the production of the food, particularly the welfare of the workers and animals
involved, and perhaps even the carbon footprint of the food. Bittman ultimately uses such
advocacy for food label reform to support his own proposed food label design, equipped with a 15
point color coded scale ranking the food according to its nutrition, as it currently exists, foodiness ,
or how close the food is to real food , and welfare , or the overall treatment of the workers,
animals, and environment. While his arguments for food labels are well intentioned, attempting to
address serious issues, Bitman s supposed solutions are highly flawed. Bittman s call for greater
awareness, responsibility, and sustainability of the welfare involved with the food industry is
admirable. The widespread access to food from all over the world has certainly created great
ambiguity around food sources. As a result, food production and transport methods can evade
public awareness, individuals

Part 158 allows airports enplaning more than 2,500 passengers per year to charge passengers up
to $4.50 per each flight segment but not more than $18.00 per round trip ticket (Price amp;
Forrest, 2012). PFC funds are collected by the airlines, forwarded to the airports by the collecting
airlines, and must be expended by airports for projects directly related to safety, security, capacity,
noise reduction, and carrier competition enhancement (Price amp; Forrest, 2012).
The PFC program s history dates back to the 1970s. Prior to 1973, some airports would impose a
toll on enplaning or deplaning passengers, a practice known as per head taxes (Wells amp; Young,
2004). A 1972 Supreme Court ruling upheld the constitutionality of this practice in Evansville
Vanderburgh AirportAuthority District et al. v. Delta Air Lines, Inc. et al. (Wells amp; Young,
2004). However, in 1973, Congress passed the Anti Head Tax Act that prohibited airports from
imposing these per head tolls on enplaning or deplaning passengers (Wells amp; Young, 2004). By
1978, efforts to remove these anti head tax bans were moving forward, though this came with
counter efforts to prohibit airports that impose per head tolls from collecting any other federal
funding (Wells amp; Young, 2004).
In 1990, then Secretary of Transportation Samuel Skinner asked Congress to allow the imposition
of $3.00 PFCs in an extension of the Airport and Airway Improvement Act program (Wells amp;

How Peacekeeping Operations Evolved Over Time Essay
International peacekeeping efforts are a relatively new feature in military strategy. They have
their roots in earlier conflicts, most notably the First Schleswig War between Denmark and
Prussia in 1849 1850. A combined force of 3,800 troops from both Sweden and Norway with the
intent of maintaining law and order and keeping the peace were assembled, while an armistice was
worked out. This set the precedent for peacekeepingoperations that would become more
commonplace in the twentieth century. After the First World War
, the League of Nations was
established, the predecessor of what would later become the United Nations. The League was
established in large part to hopefully avoid another world war as devastating as the Great War,
as it was called. The League of Nations ultimately disbanded, giving way to the United Nations,
but peacekeeping operations increased and evolved to encompass broader and more complex
conflicts, including civil wars, which were ignored by the League out of respect for a nation s
sovereignty. This brief summary will address how peacekeeping operations evolved over time and
how these operations, or a specific operation, shapes the view of peacekeeping operations by the
American people. The League of Nations was established as a means to ensure international peace
and security through collective consultation and action. The early peacekeeping operations largely
depended on precedents, which established the rules and strategies to be followed in

The Big Short
The Big Short Report
One of the topics I found most interesting in this book was the differences between the stock market
and the bond market that Michael Lewis to some extent explains in the beginning of chapter three.
While the stock market was intensely regulated and mostly transparent, the bond market consisted
of primarily large institutions and escaped serious regulation. This lack of legislative control
played a great part in allowing the credit default swaps on subprime mortgage bonds, CDO s, and
the eventual collapse of the subprime market. Following the subprime mortgage crisis, the
Department of the Treasury released a new regulatory plan, The Department of the Treasury
Blueprint for a Modernized Financial Regulatory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the Paulson Plan held off a major financial crisis and attempted to address many of the
issues that were the cause of the crisis, improvements could have been made that would have a
more lasting positive effect on the American financial system. According to an article in the Wall
Street Journal, the plan needed to achieve at three objectives. It needed to prevent a deep and
prolonged recession, achieve that first objective at the lowest possible costs to the U.S. taxpayer,
and it should not bail out the existing investors. As stated in the article, the Treasury plan addresses
only the first objective, and only indirectly. While the article gave many suggestions for improving
the plan, perhaps the most useful was the recommendation to require all regulated financial
institutions to raise 2% of their assets in additional capital to preserve the stability of the financial
system. This mandate should ensure that no individual bank sends an adverse signal to the market,
which should cause investors to not lose confidence in the banks. Another key event described in
The Big Short, was when American International Group found a way to insure subprime mortgage
loans while being able to bury these risks on its balance sheet. This was made possible by the fact
that AIG was a triple A rated corporation with an enormous

  • 3. Van Gogh s Portrait Of Dr. Gachet Van Gogh Portrait of Dr. Gachet Art has been a big part of our lives for a long time now. That art has been a way how people express how they feel, and tell a story to the world. For instance, one of the famous portraits from Van Gogh was the portrait of Dr.Gachet , there are two versions of the paintings, but they both show Gachet is sitting at the table, leaning his head with his right arm the only difference is they are both slightly different with the color and style. The original portrait was born in June 1890 at Auvers sur Oise, France, and the second painting was born in June 1890 as well but it took location in MusГ©e d Orsay, Paris. The original painting was sold on May 16, 1990, in a Japanese gallery for $82.5 million the highest ever price for a painting at that moment and is still the highest paid for a portrait at a public auction. His brother sent Gogh to his second home in Auvers and that is when Dr.Gachet and Van Gogh met on May 20, 1890. Van Gogh and Dr. Gachet had a very close relationship that Gogh would say he felt like he found himself a new brother . • 4. Similarities Between Martin Luther And Star Wood Martin Luther, essentially a nobody with credentials, grew to become one of the most influential persons in the 16th century. Though his message was fought off by the Catholic church, with the help of the printing press and his followers, Luther s message was able to spread throughout Europe. Similarly, taking a look at the message of may your brief candle shine brightly from Once Upon a Timepiece by Starr Wood, both messages of history traveled through time due to the unforeseen circumstances one calls history. By examining the choices each individual made, it is clear to see how greed and circumstance play a deep role in both Andrew Pettegree s Brand Luther and Starr Wood s Once Upon a Timepiece. Brand Luther, the detailed story of how Martin Luther, a former monk, became the backbone of a religious reformation starts off in Wittenberg: the home of maybe two thousand at the time of Luther s arrival. Wittenberg would become known as the starting place of the reformation, but prior to Luther s writings was a poor, unattractive town, with old, small, ugly wooden houses, more like a village than a town (Pettegree 7). Yet ironically, with the help of Martin, Wittenberg would thrive economically due to the printing press s success in sending and selling his every last written word all over Europe. Though the printing press was only first established in Wittenberg in 1502, Wittenberg would become the printing capitol of the world by 1543 (Pettegree 11). Pettegree s book ... The type of stress experienced by the author helps shape their moral perspective. In the essays Shooting an Elephant and The Next War, the authors moral perspectives are shaped by the economic stress of the great depression. In Graves in Gallipoli and The Little Entente the moral perspective of the authors is shaped by the stress created by the Great War. The stress created by the Great Depression and the Great War shaped authors moral perspectives in different ways. The main moral idea represented in the essay Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is how people do things that they know are wrong but do anyways because that is what is expected of them. The author, George Orwell, was born in 1903, and the essay was written in 1936. Some major global events that occured during George s life before he wrote this essay are the Great War and the Great Depression. During this time men had been forced to kill each other in the trenches because this what was men were supposed to do. • 7. The Causes Of The Indian Removal Act Of 1830 The Indian Removal Act of 1830 moved the natives from federal territory in Georgia to non federal territory in Oklahoma. Signed by Andrew Jackson, the act forced natives on what was known as the Trail of Tears where many of them died. Though, the views of Americans were changed by the Natives since the time Jamestown was settled. As the Natives importance to the Americans decreased, they became more of a nuisance. The settlers in New England were very reliant on the Natives. They were the ones who taught them to hunt and live in these new conditions. Natives were constantly put aside after the country was able to fend for themselves as seen in the American Revolution. Later on, the court case of Worcester v. Georgia gave the declaration that Natives were not technically a part of our country and they seemed to be just taking up space. Through these things, it is very clear that Natives were a problem that our country did not want to deal with. Many people do not know of the main reasons for the movement of the Native American Tribes. The causes were that President Jackson had very little positive actions and policies which inevitably caused the Trail of Tears. The tribes that were required to move were considered the five civilized tribes, and their names were the Creeks, Chickasaws, Seminoles, Cherokees, and Choctaws. The first action that leads to the migration was the fact that Jackson did not go through with his promise that the migration would be voluntary. Then he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chief Kelly has been serving for forty three years between police forces in the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania and has been a police chief for thirty three years. With his years of experience, Chief Kelly talked about primarily three main ideas: Problem Solving, Community Oriented Policing and Abington s Approach to Policing. Problem Solving policing is an officer s ability to assess and properly address any given situation. To utilize problem solving successfully, it is necessary to use the three types of knowledge police officers use when faced with a situation: Classical, Situational, and Procedural. Chief Kelly mentioned that is was all to accredit to the COPPSSAT program that the department has. COPPSSAT has four main goals for all officers that have made this department so successful. The first goal was to actually asses and look at the criminal rates to show where and what types of criminal are predominate in the area. From there the officers try to help those at risk. By using the mindset of establishing a good relationship with the community, it has helped the department reach out to the minority groups located in Abington. So if any sort of discrimination fears against police are an issue, these groups are working with the police to help form a better relationship. Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groups. The ethnic groups have different belief and practices (VANGUARD,2017). The country is well known for its oil natural resources which provides most of their gross domestic product. The largest groups are the Hausa in the north, the Yoruba in the southwest and the Igbo (or Ibo) in the southeast, who account for around a fifth of the population each. Williams Shakespeare s tragic play, Othello, reveals a detailed illustration of victimization of females in society. Throughout the play, the three women Desdemona, Emilia, and Bianca are rejected by their spouses, yet still cherish them completely. Brabantio encountered Othello for running away secretly with Desdemona without his approval, he accuses Othello of being a foul their as if Desdemona was his piece of property. Brabantio repeatedly insisted Othello had stolen his daughter as if she were a valuable object as he states O, thou foul thief, where hast thou stowed my daughter? (1.2.80 81). As Iago speaks to Brabantio and plants the idea of loss of power into Brabantio s mind. Iago cautions him saying, Your heart is burst, you have lost half your soul (1.1 88 90). This quote highlights the fact that in Elizabethan society, Brabantio, like other fathers, considered Desdemona s body to be his possession. Brabantio attempts to separate the couple as he believes he has control over her whether he wants to give away his daughter or not. Desdemona even points out that her mother chose Brabantio over her father. Despite her ability to argue for her marriage, Desdemona is still seen as owing to either Brabantio or Othello. Both Brabantio and Othello were worried about the loss of control and authority over the female desires when both individuals want to keep the possession to themselves. Desdemona is treated more as if she was a piece of property that is being exchanged between two men. Nevertheless, a stronger character such as Emilia has accepted her role in society, as she is considered weaker than men and are recognized to be property belonging to the man whom they are associated with. • 15. How The Molecules Is Capable Of Transporting Of The Cell... Abstract The reasoning behind this experiment was to be able to specify which molecules are capable of transporting in and out of the cell through the process of diffusion. Diffusion is the process where molecules move from a level of high concentration to low concentration and eventually stops once the equilibrium is reached. This study was able to demonstrate that glucose, starch, and silver nitrate were all existing at different amounts. Results began to show after around 40 minutes, but when we first started the experiment, no particles were present. Introduction The technique in which molecules are able to move in and out of a cell is by the process of diffusion. Diffusion takes the molecules from a high level of concentration to a low level of concentration. This method will be tested by taking different solutions, such as glucose, starch, and sodium chloride, pouring them into a test tube, adding reagents to them, and analyzing which molecules are able transfer. Benedict s reagent will be added to glucose, iodine to starch, and silver nitrate to sodium chloride. Glucose, starch, and sodium chloride will all be poured into the dialysis bag, which will be noted as the cell, and will eventually be examined along with the extracellular fluid, which is the fluid outside of the bag, or around the cell. The different directions that water is able to flow inside and outside of the cell includes hypertonic, isotonic, and hypotonic. Hypertonic solutions flow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rhetorical Devices In Fearless Of Taylor Swift As the result declares Rhetorical as the top most used figure of speech, it can be inferred that the album Fearless of Taylor Swift, mainly indicates lyrics that are in a question form. Proof to this are lyrics found on You Belong With Me Song which is a part of the Album stating Can t you see that I m the one who understands you? and Why can t you see you belong with me? . The album also indicated lyrics that are to represent something which is not directly stated and these are based on the result that Metonymy had garnered the most used type of figurative language. An example to this is a line found from the song You re Not Sorry which states This is the last straw . In modern time s straw is used to connect things like when we can t reach the soda inside its bottle. But in this case, Metonymy of figurative language is applied as it is used to represent chance or to be direct this is the last chance . Social And Political Thought Sriya Siems Classics of Social and Political Thought Mr. Ellison SOSC 15100 Second Paper #4 (Democracy) A Proposition To Abolish Democracy In the modern west, democracy is generally conceived as the most free regime. Democracy is uniquely characterized by majority rule. This gives its citizens the privilege to vote, overturn, and motion, with the purpose of best representing the desires of the population. Not only do societies strive for democracy to gain political freedom, but also personal freedom. Traditionally, we equate government intervention and regulation with harsh restrictions that devitalize our personal freedom, however, according to Socrates; regulation is necessary in order to experience genuine freedom . In the Republic, Socrates discusses his tripartite regime in which promotes optimal justice and happiness for its citizens. However, if we fully accept Socrates republic, this does not necessarily mean we have to reject democracy entirely. This idea will be furthered explored throughout the entirety of this essay. While Socrates describes democracy as the fairest regime, he refutes this claim by exposing the disastrous effect lack of structure has in a democracy, producing only spurious pleasures and, therefore, failing to achieve Socrates s justice, (demonstrated in his republic) which produces genuine pleasures that greatly benefit the individual and the city. Socrates uses a democratic society as a foundation to build his republic. Socrates says, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some people even take great pride in the fact that they were arbitrarily born in a specific geographical location. Unfortunately, like religion or capitalism, nationalism is alive and well in the 21st century. Throughout the history of human civilization, people have been creating, critiquing and altering institutions. For instance, people have been condemning religion for centuries, indeed millennia. Yet the institution of religion still remains a dominant force in modern society. Without question, religious institutions and practices have morphed, dare I say, evolved, over the centuries. • 36. Similarities Between A Streetcar Named Desire And A... The battle of the sexes has been going on for a millennium. The way that men and women view everything from love to children to career choices is strikingly different. Today, men and women seem to be much more in sync with these views. However, in the post World War II era of A Streetcar Named Desire and Their Eyes Were Watching God, they are very different. Although both works of literature focus on the theme of desire, the authors deal with this topic quite differently. For example, Blanche continues to rely on and chase after men which only leads to her unhappiness and insanity; whereas, Janie learns to control her desire as she goes through her long journey of self discovery and new found independence. Therefore, despite the similar theme of desire, both characters embark on a journey which takes them to opposite destinations: Blanche, an insane asylum and Janie, a whole new world of self reliance. In the play, A Streetcar Named Desire, Blanche Duboiscraves attention from the opposite sex to formulate her self worth and self confidence. She is the stereotypical woman of the time who seems unable to exist without a man to provide for and look after her. Women during this time had no ability to live on their own because of social norms. Blanche portrays these limitations throughout the play but particularly in her thoughts following her young husband s death when she accepts that she will now be forced to move on to some fresh territory (Williams 122). This desire impacts all aspects of her life: her career, her love life, her reputation, her home and eventually her sanity. In an attempt to escape her problems, she runs away to her sister s house hoping that Stella and her husband, Stanley, will take care of her. This is when author Tennessee Williams introduces the three key motifs: Desire, Cemeteries, and Elysian Fields, all of which portrays Blanche s voyage to her demise. In scene one, Williams mentions these three key terms, They told me to take a streetcar named Desire, and then transfer to one called Cemeteries and ride six blocks and get off at Elysian Fields (Williams 117). • 37. The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov Anton Chekhov, like Henrik Ibsen, is considered a prominent writer on culture and society. Chekhov s works are noteworthy, in part, because of the lives they portray. In The Cherry Orchard, he writes of a world shackled by a caste system, and he exposes the need for reform. As the title states, the play is set in a cherry orchard. The play revolves around an aristocratic family and other minor characters, but the problem is the family is broke. Chekhov uses the symbolic characters memories as a way to portray the servant , the aristocracy, merchant, and the intelligentsia classes, four of the main cast of russian society during the early 1900s. Madame Ranevsky declares, You people ought to go and see plays; you ought to try to see yourselves; to see what dull life you lead, and how much too much you talk. (22) She is referring to how she went to see a play and how it reflected her family and the minor characters. This quote is significant because this is embodiment of what The Cherry Orchard tries to achieve. Chekhov accomplishes this, using memory as a motif, to delve further into the symbolic characters and their representation of the four main characters experiences, life struggles, and interactions with other classes in Russian society in the early 1900s. • 44. Business Structures Within The United States One of the most important decisions when starting a company is to determine the type of legal entity best suited for your business. Each country has different legal business entities under its regulatory framework. According to Dewhurst (2014), the most common types of business structures within the United States are: proprietorship, partnership, corporation, limited liability company, and cooperative. Additionally, there are other types of legal entities derived from the association of different corporations, such as joint ventures. A proprietorship is the most basic business entity (Dewhurst, 2014), in which an owner receives all profits and is legally liable for the obligations related to the business. It is the easiest structure to set up, register and maintain, and additional tax incomes are not legally separated from the person. Its biggest disadvantage is that the personal property of the owner are not legally protected in case of financial obligations or company debts (Pakroo, 2004). A partnership is related to any business entity conformed for two or more owners, not registered as a corporation or a limited liability company. The partnership can be of two types: General partnership or limited partnership. In a limited partnership, one of the owners generally acts as the general partner assuming responsibility for managing the business decisions, while the limited partner only acts as a financial contributor to the business without any participation on business ... • 52. A Dream For A World Without Food Labels Essay A Dream for a World Without Food Labels In his essay My Dream Food Label, Mark Bittman makes the case that current food labels, while providing the consumer with ample information, do not indicate whether or not the food contained is really beneficial . Bittman argues that labels should additionally involve clear graphics, such as a traffic light indicating the healthiness of the food, as well as criteria such as hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, etc. These criteria would ideally also include the production of the food, particularly the welfare of the workers and animals involved, and perhaps even the carbon footprint of the food. Bittman ultimately uses such advocacy for food label reform to support his own proposed food label design, equipped with a 15 point color coded scale ranking the food according to its nutrition, as it currently exists, foodiness , or how close the food is to real food , and welfare , or the overall treatment of the workers, animals, and environment. While his arguments for food labels are well intentioned, attempting to address serious issues, Bitman s supposed solutions are highly flawed. Bittman s call for greater awareness, responsibility, and sustainability of the welfare involved with the food industry is admirable. The widespread access to food from all over the world has certainly created great ambiguity around food sources. PFC funds are collected by the airlines, forwarded to the airports by the collecting airlines, and must be expended by airports for projects directly related to safety, security, capacity, noise reduction, and carrier competition enhancement (Price amp; Forrest, 2012). The PFC program s history dates back to the 1970s. Prior to 1973, some airports would impose a toll on enplaning or deplaning passengers, a practice known as per head taxes (Wells amp; Young, 2004). A 1972 Supreme Court ruling upheld the constitutionality of this practice in Evansville Vanderburgh AirportAuthority District et al. v. Delta Air Lines, Inc. et al. (Wells amp; Young, 2004). • 54. How Peacekeeping Operations Evolved Over Time Essay International peacekeeping efforts are a relatively new feature in military strategy. They have their roots in earlier conflicts, most notably the First Schleswig War between Denmark and Prussia in 1849 1850. A combined force of 3,800 troops from both Sweden and Norway with the intent of maintaining law and order and keeping the peace were assembled, while an armistice was worked out. This set the precedent for peacekeepingoperations that would become more commonplace in the twentieth century. After the First World War , the League of Nations was established, the predecessor of what would later become the United Nations. The League was established in large part to hopefully avoid another world war as devastating as the Great War, as it was called. The League of Nations ultimately disbanded, giving way to the United Nations, but peacekeeping operations increased and evolved to encompass broader and more complex conflicts, including civil wars, which were ignored by the League out of respect for a nation s sovereignty. This brief summary will address how peacekeeping operations evolved over time and how these operations, or a specific operation, shapes the view of peacekeeping operations by the American people. While the stock market was intensely regulated and mostly transparent, the bond market consisted of primarily large institutions and escaped serious regulation. This lack of legislative control played a great part in allowing the credit default swaps on subprime mortgage bonds, CDO s, and the eventual collapse of the subprime market. Although the Paulson Plan held off a major financial crisis and attempted to address many of the issues that were the cause of the crisis, improvements could have been made that would have a more lasting positive effect on the American financial system. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, the plan needed to achieve at three objectives. It needed to prevent a deep and prolonged recession, achieve that first objective at the lowest possible costs to the U.S. taxpayer, and it should not bail out the existing investors. As stated in the article, the Treasury plan addresses only the first objective, and only indirectly. While the article gave many suggestions for improving the plan, perhaps the most useful was the recommendation to require all regulated financial institutions to raise 2% of their assets in additional capital to preserve the stability of the financial system. This mandate should ensure that no individual bank sends an adverse signal to the market, which should cause investors to not lose confidence in the banks.
