Voter Registration And The Presidential Elections
With the current presidential elections approaching soon, there is plenty of political activity
going on in our communities. Many people follow the presidential elections and listen to what
these candidates have to say, however, there are other elections going on in our own
communities that also have a big impact on us. We sometimes tend to forget about our local
candidates and at times ignore what they have to offer for us. I, myself, am able to relate to this.
I decided to take action and go out to a local community to do voter registration with the hope that
people would not only register, but also go out on November 8 and vote. A lot of people often hear
the saying that our vote doesn t count. This tends to discourage eligible voters from going out and
voting. I went out and asked a few friends and family members about the things that come to mind
when they hear the word vote . Being that we are in 2016 and this is a presidential electionyear,
most of them responded by saying that choosing a president or a leader came to mind. I also
asked if they had plans to vote this November 8th, about half of them said they would vote, the
other half split. Some stated that they wouldn t vote because they have the idea that their vote
doesn t count or because they weren t registered to vote. Before deciding to get involved in voter
registration, I was one of those people that did not have much interest in voting. Prior to joining a
voter registration team, I myself wasn t sure

The Paradox Of Gladiators
Often seen as working class heroes, Roman Gladiators have become an icon to the it is nearly
impossible to think of the Roman Empire without the association of
Gladiators were a paradox within Roman society. They were viewed both as the superstars of
their day , but also ranked in the lowest tier of Roman society (Baker, 2000, pg.3). This unique
relationship of being held in contempt while also being adorned made the relationship of gladiators
to Roman society very interesting because it influenced why people might participate in the games.
Although the majority of gladiators were slaves, some were volunteers, women and political
figures. Slaves were a part of the gladiator games because they didn t have much say. Their owners

This was done in grades of gladiator training called Palus . The highest attainable grade for a
gladiator was Prime Palus . At this point, the gladiator was not only a huge asset to the ludus, but
also viewed as teacher who could pass along wisdom to other gladiators.
The paradox of gladiators continues within the school because they live in prison like conditions
and are still viewed as slaves, but because they had the potential to earn large profits for their
masters they were well taken care of in many areas. They usually received three meals a day, and
the best gladiators were also privy to treats. After examining bones from gladiator graveyards,
evidence suggest Gladiators ate a largely vegetarian diet. Hollywood movies often misinterpret
gladiators as travelers. Gladiators didn t travel from city to city for combat, they usually just fought
in the cities they lived in. Another misconception is that the gladiators fought as a team because
that is depicted in movies. Each man or woman was on their own unless they were specifically
participating in a style of fighting where there was more than one

Literary Devices Of Wrapped In Red
Literary Devices of Wrapped in Red Kelly Clarkson s world famous song Wrapped in Red is a
successful song to America, as well being adapted internationally. Wrapped in Red is an
American song about how much Christmas influences the idea of falling in love in the artist s
point of view. Also, it s about how after many years of having a secret love, she will let her feelings
loose in Christmasday. The artist creates a romantic mood throughout the song, The song includes 3
important literary devices, thoroughly analyzed, that make the song special and a success; imagery,
repetition, and the colors expressed as feelings from the artist, Kelly Clarkson. Although color
expression isn t a proper device, Clarkson did an amazing job expressing her... Show more content

Her first statement of imagery was when she stated as her second line in the first verse, Snow is
falling down. This one s not hard to comprehend; it simply means that it s winter time and it s
snowing in her location area. When the artist also stated, So I m at your door with nothing more
than words I ve never said, indicates the pure fear of showing love to somebody you ve known
for years in a friendly manner. In other words, Clarkson is planning to confess her love, but there
s a fear inside her that says, He won t feel the same way. The richest imagery Clarkson has shown
in Wrapped in Red was when she stated, In all this white, you ll see me like you ve never seen me
yet wrapped in red. Even though the idea was not directly clear, and quite hard to understand, the
artist did an incredible job using imagery in this line. Since the time in the song is winter, white
connects to the season because everything is very clear. From the artist s point of view, her secret
love has seen her as nothing more than a friend; everything has been clear between them. Now, the
artist wants to be noticed, and the only way to do that, is to stand out and confess. It s incredible
how rich Clarkson makes her imagery, particularly with the use of colors and

Creative Thinking Saves the Day
Positive mental ability:
PMA is the most important aspect of any attractive personality; indeed, it is crucial to many of the
Seventeen Principles of Success. PMA influences your tone of voice, your posture, your facial

So, what exactly makes up a pleasing personality? Well the following are a few of the major
characteristics of people with this superstar quality: Takes a sincere interest in others These people
are truly interested in what others have to share. In conversation, they ask sincere questions, then
wait for their partner to respond. They make eye contact and make the effort to remember the other

From Giovanni Pancari s Migration To America
In 1935 my great great grandfather named Giovanni Pancari immigrated from Italy to America
by a ship named the Saturnia and arrived in Ellis Island. The streets were always crowded in
Manhattan which was where most Italian immigrants lived in 1935. Other locations are the
Bronx, Brooklyn, and nearby towns in New Jersey. In Manhattan, Mulberry Street was heavily
populated with Italian culture. Many people spoke Italian and owned Italian shops. Working
conditions were horrible and had very low wages. Child labor was common and the children
could work in factories, mines, farms, and as newspaper sellers. The men that worked usually
received $2 a day which was just enough to survive on. If children and women worked they would

Ratios Analysis In Financial Analysis
Ratios analysis is quantitative analyses of financial statements. They can generally be categorized
into profitability, liquidity, gearing and valuation ratios (BBP P3, 2014). Ratio is used as a
yardstick for assessing the financial position and business performance of the organization. It is a
helpful tool to analyze and produce a meaningful interpretation of financial statements. This
technique helps in decision making process and finding out the relationship between different
trends and ratios (Accounting Managment , n.d).
For my RAP, I have analyzed the following ratios for both Delta and its comparator:

It does not indicate which environmental influences are more important than others, so managers

2.4.3 SWOT analysis
SWOT analysis is a framework that identifies the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of
an entity. It assesses what an entity can and cannot do. It also evaluates potential opportunities and
threats. These can be divided into internal and external factors (Investopedia, n.d).
Internal factors
The strengths and weaknesses relate to the availability and utilization of resources and capabilities
to establish what an entity is outperforming or underperforming and whether the available resources
are enough or in short.
External factors Opportunities and threats relate to external factors such as the impact of economic
changes, new technologies, new entrants to the market and powerful customer can have on the

The Effects Of Global Change On Infectious Diseases
As an outcome of Global changes amongst modern societies, there is an increased risk of outbreaks
of new infectious diseases within human population. A new infectious disease is identified by the
following characteristics; diseases that have recently been discovered, undergone recent
evolutionary changes, entered the human population for the first time or in a new area previously
unaffected by the disease (Smith et al.2004). The term Global change addresses recent changes in
climate and climate variability, growth of the human population, percentile of total population

These are areas in which do not have the capacity to store and distribute water safely, and the
appropriate management systems for wastewater drainage, providing rich breeding
environments for mosquitoes (Sutherst 2004). The latest outbreaks of west nile fever in North
America and the emergence of bluetongue virus in Northern Europe reiterate the risk of
pathogens being introduced into foreign areas previously unaffected, as a result of modern
societies interconnectivity a rapidly advancing import and export links. The transportation of
used tires globally, provides a high probability of importing mosquito vectors into areas outside
their geographic range, such as the Aedes Aegypti (Medlock et al. 2012). The A. Aegypti
species, natural habitat lies throughout tropical regions of America, Asia and Africa as well as
northern Australia and some of the islands situated within the Indian ocean (Soumahoro et al.
2012). The mosquito seeks a blood host most actively during the hours of the day and is most
commonly found living in domestic habitats, in non biodegradable containers, tires and other
household plastics that hold water. It is in those areas the A. Aegypti mates, lays its eggs and
feeds (Troncoso 2016). A. Aegypti has been suggested as a vector of Zika Virus disease (Medlock
et al. 2012), exemplifying a high risk for global transmission of the disease (Troncoso 2016).

supported by the experiments on the availability of D2 receptors and amphetamine studies.
Furthermore, studies related to antipsychotic drug treatment can demonstrate the improvement of
positive symptoms of schizophrenia. The current essay will support the dopamine hypothesis of
schizophrenia by using empirical research.
The classic dopamine hypothesis state that the excess of dopamine is subcortically related with the
positive symptoms (Abi Dargham, 1999). In an experiment, firstly brain scans were done to achieve
baseline D2 receptor availability (Abi Dargham, 1999). The fluctuations in the synaptic dopamine
levels were measured using in vivo binding techniques, the competition between endogenous levels
of the neurotransmitter and the radiotracer for binding to the D2 dopamine receptors (Abi
Dargham, 1999). Injection of amphetamine, cause dopamine to be released into the synapse (Abi
Dargham, 1999). Resulting high levels of concentration of the endogenous dopamine in contrast,
decreasing the amount of radiotracer available to bind to the dopamine receptor (Abi Dargham,
1999). The amount of dopamine released after amphetamine can be observed through the difference
between the two brain scans (Abi Dargham, 1999). As a result transmission of dopamine was
increased in schizophrenic subjects compared

Credit Card Debt in America

Debt
Credit card debt is one of this nation s leading internal problems, and it has been for around the
last 3 4 decades. When credit was first introduced, and up until around the late 1970 s up to today,
the standards for getting a credit card were very high; so not everybody could get one. The bar got
lowered and lowered to where, eventually, an 18 year old college student with almost no income
and nothing to base a credit score on previously could obtain a credit card (much like myself). The
national credit card debt for families residing in the United States alone is in the trillions (Maxed

These rates do not just do this on their own. They are caused by a factor called universal default.
(Jaffe) The universal default, written in all of the small print that comes with every newly issued
credit card, states that if one is more than 30 days late on a credit card payment, the rate of interest
on these debts will increase dramatically (Jaffe). Ironically, the universal default is not
universally known and understood. This all really started in 1978, when the Supreme Court
decided to leave the interest rates up to State Government (McGeehan). This caused many banks
to move their credit card operation stations to states that had removed caps on interest rates,
such as South Dakota and Delaware (McGeehan). What has been happening lately, which is not
quite yet illegal, is that credit card companies will apply this universal default rule to not only
the 30 day late payment period, but will apply it to missing mortgage payments, utility or car
payments, carrying too much debt in the first place, using over half of your credit limit for most
of your credit cards, and many more things (Jaffe). This is causing people left and right to double
their debt with interest rates. For every $1 in principle spent by the average American, they are
paying around $2 3 dollars in interest (Maxed Out). However, the aggressive tactics used by these
lenders (in raising interest rates and charging unnecessary fees) have

1950 s Fashion
Fashions fade. Style is eternal Once said the famous designer Yves Saint Laurent. In the 1950 s
marked the era in fashion that people think of as the turning point in fashion. Teenagers would be
looked at for their own fashion, and would have sexier outfits. Women would start to wear
accessories such as hats, glasses and diamonds (FashionHistory). They would show more skin and
have tighter outfits. Men would start to wear suits and look more formal. The cowboy look would
start to play a big role during this time. Many men would wear different colors including pink.
Before the 1950 s many teenagers would wear the same exact clothes as their parents did, in the
50 s we start to see fashion including teenagers as their own fashion. Teenage girls would wear
more colors, and tighter dresses to get a finer look. We also see that the teenagers start to go
farther into the accessories by wearing pearls, necklaces and waves many high class wives would

So, the pros and cons of technology in our generation.
It is pretty easy to make a list for both, but a bit easier to make a list for the pros, so we will do that.
The first and most important things brought to us by technology is the communication.
Pros We are a pretty social bunch, and with phones, social media and by other means we are able
to contact people from long distances for no reason at all, and with no effort. These things allow
us to stay in contact with family, and even long distance relationships, as if they ever work. In my

Virtual bullying is becoming a very big concern for people our age, being the first area to have
too much technology to back up our good times, and bad time. We tend to struggle through
emotional stress a lot more than past generations, so a simple message is able to tare some of us
down really easily.
Video games. Now this one is completely my opinion, and i m not interested in starting an
arguement, but the pros and cons for this one, in my eyes are simply put.
Pros When it comes to video games I personally go to them to blow off steam. Now I see this as a
great pro, because when some child or even adults just want to hit something games can pull them
back from doing something stupid. They may just go home play some GTA, putting their anger into
a game, so that no one actually gets harmed.
Cons The con for gaming is, in my eyes, just the fact that they can tend to distract from other real
life things. When you got homework, but you have just one more; you can fill in the blank.
Games are great and all but even I m guilty of this one. I d much rather play my Ps4 than get that
stack of homework done, I can always do it later, but then later I ll say the

Legalize The Benefits Of Legalizing Marijuana
The current US policy is, marijuana is an illegal substance to grow, posses, and sell. For the first
time in the United States history, a majority of Americans favor legalizing marijuana. Opponents of
legalization argue that making marijuana use legal will lead to an increase in drug related societal
problems.
The US should create a new policy to legalize marijuana. Legalizing it would increase tax revenue
and help increase employment. It would reduce inmates in jails and prisons. With criminal justice
reform it will decriminalize the substance.

Trying to find concrete evidence and finding solid information on the effects of marijuana is
difficult. Questions US citizens want answers to is, does marijuana have any repercussions to
health effects? If legalized what laws will be created concerning the drug. Trying to decide if this

safe. Pop icons with social media hurt young Americans in deciding wither to follow the law or

They only see the plot and the characters and call it good. Yet, they forget to recognize the other
aspects of the film. In this film, I ve noticed quite a bit of literary aspects of the picture. The plot
of the movie is what makes the movie what it is, however there are more ideas and things that go
into the plot. The first thing that I noticed was the realistic nature of the plot. A plot like this
wouldn t work in a different time period but with it being set during the Cold War, it makes
sense, however, the nature of the characters is one that would make one question it. When we
look back at history and the cold war, we see that in that time period, there was a lot of patriotism
on both sides and how very close we were to nuclear war. In this case, I find it a bit weird that
Marko Ramius wanted to go to the United States. Maybe he was against the ideology of the
Soviet Union, but even then it is a bit weird. What the plot does is it leaves everything resolved,
just what a plot should do. The dialogue in the film can be viewed as realistic due to the nature of
the plot, causing one to be confused at times due to topics of discussion involving the submarines
or anything along the subject line. The overall theme that I felt in the movie was the theme of
discovery. Throughout the motion picture, we see Jack Ryan try and find the Red October, leading

The Reign Of The King
From the reign of King John beginning in 1199 to the reign of Edward III ending in 1377, the
role of kingship is slowly put in to question. Throughout this time period kings find that they now
need to consult with a council in order rule successfully. This time period begins with an
absolute monarchy, but the authority of the king is gradually limited. These changes slowly
grow thought this time period while the authority of parliament increases. This time period also
calls into question how the king is viewed, whether as a person or as an office. This essay will
trace the political authority of the king and his growing limitations. Additionally, it will discuss
the birth of parliament and its increase in political power not only as a whole, but also in
relationship to the power of the king. It is within the reign of King John, where limitation of the
king s power is called into play. These limitations will set the stage for the eventual formation of
parliament and a lessening of the king s influence that future kings cannot ignore. However, with
John, as opposed to these future kings, the changes are relatively ineffective, but will set incoming
limitation to the king s power in motion. These events are triggered when war breaks out in
France as of 1202 when the French King gives John s titles to Arthur, Duke of Brittany. John
achieves a victory at Mirebeau, but as of 1204, he loses much of the northern empire. In 1214, after

The Pros And Cons Of UFO And Aliens
UFO and Aliens have claimed to be seen all the time but few are easy to believe. A lot of people
see mysterious lights somewhere. Lights are seen commonly, but when people see a strange
light at night they might think about UFO. So many people swear to have been abducted or
seen flying saucers, and some describe the same thing and have captivated with creatures from
other planets. Some shows and movies of these subjects have been produced. A lot of people are
curious about this subject, and this is not surprising. Many flying objects have been witnessed
but never identified each year. One of the most famous cases of a UFO and Aliens is the
Roswell New Mexico incident in 1947, but it was quickly covered up by the government, and
many people are still questioning what really happened. The US government gave some
irrational reasons as explanations for the crash. Also, at Roswell s case, Brown wrote that a
funeral home was secretly contacted to order four children sized hermetically closed coffins.
Giving people reason to believe these bodies could be dead aliens after being studied. Few
Roswell incident reports showed that the flying saucer was made from unknown materials. After
this event, some people started to believe in and research UFO and Alien documents. People
usually think of are a grey short body and big eyes because the Aliens in the Roswell incident
which was known by the entire world had the similar shape. Also, few pictures from various
countries were taken

Antigone Tragic Character Analysis
A tragic character is a character in a tragic play that goes through the three different stages of a
tragic character. The stages of a tragic character are hamartia, peripeteia, and anagnorisis. Hamartia
is the flaw in their personality that leads to their downfall. A flaw could often be, but not limited
to pride, ignorance, and selfishness. Peripeteia is the characters change in fortune also leading to
their downfall. This is the part in the play where the story flips to give the tragic character different
circumstances. These flips are mostly out of the control of the character and decided by gods or
other uncontrollable forces. Anagnorisisis the epiphany that the character has towards the end of the
tragedy. This is when the tragic character realizes that their tragic flaw has led to their downfall,
and their change in fortune cannot be avoided. I think that there are many characters in
Antigone that could fit the criteria of a tragic character, but there is only one character that fits
the description of a tragic character perfectly. Antigone is often perceived as the tragic character
as the play is named after her and she is the protagonist. She does possess some of the qualities of
a tragic character, but not all of them. Her hamartia, or tragic flaw is her loyalty to her family
which causes her to rebel against authority. But if you were to somehow ask Antigone if she
would have been less loyal to her family if the result would have been different, I almost
guarantee that she wouldn t have changed a thing. Her change in fortune could be when Creon
decides to put her to death because of her actions. This isn t really a change in fortune because she
knew this would happen if she buried her brother. I do not think Antigone ever went through the
last stage of a tragic character. She never had a realization of her mistake that led to her downfall.
She was fine with taking the consequences of her actions, and found no fault in her personality or
decision. She might have ended the story with suicide, but there was not a moment that she regret
making the decisions that she did. Because of this, I do not think Antigone is the tragic character in
the play as one might argue. I think a character that

My Life At The Beach House
You might not know my name or who I am, but that is not important, my story is important. I
had a twin brother named Neels. He died in a car crash along with my mother when I was only
five years old. After my brothers and mother s death, my father thought it would be geniality for us
to move to a beach house, to get distances from the memories. I still remember the house like it
was just yesterday, baby blue with special memories of my father and I.
That beach house brought great time but it also brought the worst times of my life. Next door
was an extremely large mansion, although there lived a very rich and pretty lady named Mariana.
The beach house belonged to the pretty lady, but was sold to my father by a very close friend of ...

I was about seven years old, I was sitting on the edge of the couch with my feet dangling in the
air looking up at my father enjoying him watch TV. We heard a knock at the door. I looked at my
father Who could have come so late to greet us I asked my father.
Mr. Johnson: They didn t come to greet us, darling why don t, you head upstairs now
I: Daddy, why do I have to head upstairs?
Mr. Johnson: no response....
I knew I had to head upstairs because I never liked getting my father angry and he always had his
reasons. However, I didn t pay close attention; instead I hid beside the stairs. I could hear my
father talking to someone, though I couldn t see who my father was talking to. Then I decided
to head upstairs because whoever my father was talking too was not important. It was just
business related, but right as I was leaving Mr. Mysteries guy said something that captured my
attention. Mr. Johnson , I had to see who that man was! The hint of my father being called Mr.
Johnson didn t even pop or imagine in my head at that time. All I got to see was half of his face,
he had a scar on his right eyebrow, and before Mr. Mystery s guy could leave I heard something
else, something about fake passports and ID s, although I didn t understand why.

Sacrifice In Barbara Kingsolver s Poisonwood Bible
Orleanna Price s Sacrifice
Everyday we all make sacrifices for people we love and in rare cases those we do not. The book
Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver illuminates one family and the sacrifice they make to
journey from their comfortable home in Georgia to the untamed jungle of Africa s Congo to preach
as Baptist missionaries. The story takes place in the 1960s during the withdrawal of Belgian
influence in the Congo. One of the family members Orleanna Price the wife and mother of the
family sacrifices everything she has to make this journey that her husband so willfully accepted.
Through her sacrifice it shows us what she values. This is shown through the sacrifice of her
agency, way of life and her happiness.
When Orleanna s husband decides to take his family and mission to the Belgian Congo Orleanna
loses her agency. She is no longer able to choose what she wants or what she can do for this all

slaving over a hot stove, Father hardly notices she d won over the crowd. (49) Orleanna has just
prepared and cooked fried chicken for the entire village and Nathan does not even thank her or
seen all the hard work she does to make his life easier. Although Orleanna sacrifices her
happiness she is making her family happy by making life for them better. This shows that she
values selflessness. She is willing to give up her happiness to see others happy. This is very
important because without her selflessness there would have been a very different outcome of the
book that would have been very hard on the rest of the family. Orleanna s willingness to serve is

Career Counseling Over the Lifespan Essay
Abstract
Career counseling over the lifespan has more than an occupational focus, it deals with the person s
entire being with a vision that includes one s lifespan. Career counseling takes into consideration
character development, character skills, life roles, individual life and work history, goals, and
obstacles. A careercounselor not only assists a client with a career plan, but also with a life plan.
This paper focuses on two categories of career counseling. The first focus is the history of career
counseling as a field of study with the emphasis on when and why career counseling began (1800s
as a study of how the shape of one s head relates to vocational choice), who and what influenced it
(Sizer, Parsons, and Davis), and how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has progressed to an approach that deals with career development throughout a lifespan (Pope,
2000). Theories and assessments have developed that look at the many variables of work,
personality, interests, and needs (Whiston, 2003). The study has broadened with the use of
technology and has been challenged by the many considerations of multiculturalism (Lewis
Coursol, 2007; Whiston, 2003). A creative Godwho modeled work and rest created man and his
relationship with work. Career counseling provides an opportunity to cultivate the relationship of
God and man, assists with the discovery of one s callings and talents, and enables one to fulfill God
s plans for his or her life.
The History and Development of Career Counseling
Pope (2000) describes how social reform, economic change, and federal legislation were
significant factors in the evolution of career counseling. The development of career counseling
began as a social movement linked to economic changes. In the early 1900s, young people were
leaving the family farms and moving to cities to find employment. With this new growth and few
regulations of labor, laborers were exploited and misused. In the first decade of the twentieth
century, one half million children from 10 13 years of age were employed in factories (Pope,
2000). The end of World War I and the Depression influenced the beginning of educational guidance
in the public school system.

Attempted Murder and Criminal Acts
In this essay, I will describe the elements of a criminal act, address the law of factual
impossibility, the law of legal impossibility, and distinguish whether the alleged crime in the
scenario is a complete but imperfect attempt or an incomplete attempt. I will address the ethical or
moralistic concerns associated with allowing a criminal defendant to avoid criminal responsibility
by successfully asserting a legal defense such as impossibility. The court was clearly wrong to
dismiss the charge against Jack of attempted murderof Bert.
A crime consists of an actus reus and a mens rea, in order to obtain a conviction of a criminal
charge there must be a concurrence between the actus reus and mens rea. The elements of a

Transferred intent is when an individual has the intent to cause harm to one person but injures
another one instead (Lippman, 2012). In order to meet the requirements of transferred intent, two
questions must be asked and both questions must have a yes to apply transferred intent. The first
question: If contact had been made with the intended object (Bert), would there have been a crime
(National Paralegal College, 2014)? The answer is yes, there is a crime against pointing and firing
a gun at a human being and first degree murder. The second question: If the object with which
contact was made (Pratt) had been the intended target, would there have been a crime (National
Paralegal College, 2014)? The answer here is yes (first degree murder). Under the legal doctrine of
transferred intent, Jack is still liable for the intentional crime he intended to commit against Bert,
although, Jack mistakenly committed a crime against Pratt.
The defenses to attempt are: factual impossibility and legal impossibility. Jack s attorney is
attempting to assert factual impossibility to have the charges of the attempted murder of Bert
dismissed due to an extraneous factor (gun malfunction), which is unethical. Factual impossibility
is when a person does everything in their power to complete the target crime, but fails

Five Themes Of Geography
Over the course of the centuries maps have been used to find locations all over the world. They
have evolved and to become more advanced, thanks to technology. Of course, there are specific
ways to use a map such as basic components. Basic components include a compass rose which
indicates the cardinal directions. Legends is the key where symbols are used to help find a point
on the map, or in other words, lead the way. A scale can range from as far as a continent to as
close as a house. All these components are important while using a map. The most accurate way to
represent the world is through map projection. There are different types of map projections like
Mercator Projectionand Robinson Projection. Mercator Projections is more accurate in shapes and
shows representations bigger than it really is. Robinson Projection on the other hand is more
accurate in both size and shape makes it flatter and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Five Themes of Geography Every place in the world has different ways of using their
location. Where I live, I usually use relative location because everything is linked. For example,
my house is only 3 blocks away from my school. Or in other words it takes me only 10 minutes
to get to school. Another example would be, the closest store is only one street away. Near the
store is the gas station which also makes it close to my house. It is easy to reach any place at any
given time. There are many things that make a place unique, the environment, culture, government
structure, economic activities, and much more. Mauritania is very big and vast, but also empty.
Only a small part of it holds human activity, and the rest is just an empty desert. Many places in
the world ressemble my country especially in Africa. Libya, Egypt, and Sudan, for example, are
all covered in desert and also follow the Islamic religion. Mongolia and Namibia also relate to
Mauritania by having a large amount of land, low population density and poor economic

What Is The Growth Of Poverty In Canada
The article The Growth of Poverty and Social Inequality: Losing Faith in Social Justice by Ann
Duffy and Nancy Mandell displayed many important facts about poverty in Canada. I believe the
most important information I got from this article is how intersectionality largely effects poverty
in Canada. From children to women to disabled, the article showed how each group is more
affected by povertythan their counter parts. I believe it is important to acknowledge the different
groups and how poverty affects them separately, as well as how poverty affects them when they
are intersected. Canada is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, however, many citizens
are below the blurred poverty line. (251). The poverty line in Canada is measured by the LICO
IAT (boooook) and the MBM (253). The resources for those below the poverty line are very
poor; food banks and shelters are unable to uphold the amount of people that are in need of them.
(252). Among the poor, many people have paid employment, however, it is not enough. Poverty in
Canada is largely based on intersectionality; how different aspects of a person combine to form a...

society stopped grouping people into categories such as female, indigenous, disabled, etc. than
intersectionality would have less of an effect on poverty then it does now. It is important that
intersectionality not have such a powerful affect on people s poverty status because it is unfair to

John Cheever s Personal Connection to The Swimmer
Why do people read literature? The definition of literature is a writing of some sort in which
expression and form are characteristics or features of the writing. It can come in the form of
poetry, novels, biographies, or essays. There are a couple of main reasons people usually read
literature. People usually read for an escape from life, to learn something new, to confront human
experience, or simply for pleasure. One of the more popular of those four is to confront human
experience. They use what the author writes down and apply it to their daily life. Authors
sometimes do that too. They write down their own experiences to give the audience pleasure, or to
realize that they shouldn t make the same mistakes. When it comes to... Show more content on

After reading his journals and then going back and re reading his stories, it became clear he had
put himself in the characters. They were all adults, full of darkness, corruption, and confusion. They
were all conflicted in their lives, going from happiness in the beginning to depression in the end
(Cooke 39). Although John Cheever was not understood well, he had a knack for telling the brutal
honesty of suburbia life in America. Perhaps that is his lasting legacy.
Literary Analysis In a story, an author has the difficult task of telling a whole tale with compelling
emotion and a meaningful message. Many wonder how an author gets all of their ideas. One way
an author can get their ideas is through their own life. That is called parallelism. John Cheever is,
again, the master of this technique. Living in the suburbs, he always told a story of an adult with a
dark story to tell. The Swimmer is nothing different. In this short story, Neddy says he is going to
swim home from a neighbor s pool and encounters many demons during the sequence. The
demons Neddy meets on his way are another way of Cheever putting himself and his own demons
in his work. Everyone knows by now that Cheever had a problem with alcohol. He starts off in in
the first paragraph with everyone talking about how they drank too much, multiple times (1). This
implies that Neddy was drinking as well, for in

Comparison Of The Chinese And Czech Culture In The Joy...
Joy Luck Club: The Chinese vs Czech Culture America is known as a melting pot for a reason. In
America there is not one culture that is not represented here in some form. While each culture is
unique, it is also more similar to other cultures than anyone would realize. In the Joy luck Club by
Amy Tan, the stories follow sets of mothers and daughters who are Chinese and what their lives in
China and America are like. The Chinese have a very rich and extensive culture, with customs and
beliefs varying depending on the areas of China because of how large the country is. Likewise, the
Czechs, who are from what is now known as the Czech Republic, are a rich culture from Europe
which represents the inhabitants of Moravia, Bohemia, and Silesia as a whole (Molinari 2017). The
two cultures are very unique from one another for many reasons such as the reasons that they
moved to the places that they did in America, and their cuisine, but they also share many
similarities such as what they changed when they moved to America, and the importance of stories

Government Accountability Office, Report to Congressional Requesters, September 2013, GAO 13
757] INTRODUCTION One of the Federal Aviation Administration s (FAA) primary modernization
goals is to implement policies that ensure their 1,230 facilities enable robust Air Traffic Control
(ATC) services to meet air traffic demand requirements in a safe and efficient manner for all
citizens. These facilities provide the foundation for which the Next Generation Air Transportation
System (NextGen) programs are built on. The challenge of maintaining such complex airport and
facility infrastructures is in the assessment of needs and implementing a clear upgrade and
sustainment prioritization strategy that supports those needs. Similar to large private organizations
the FAA utilizes business policies that identify requirements, mitigate risk to staff and operations,
and accelerate performance. However, to often the expectation of seeing an immediate measurable
change given a strategy has been implemented is misguided. Evidence has shown policy changes
display their impact in long term gains or losses not short term. (Toyoda, 1991) The purpose of this
research is to build a simulation model to investigate the dynamics of modernization investment
policies in the development of long term service availability for all ATC facilities.

Latin Music Thesis
Growing up in Arizona where the Hispanic culture is so vibrant and plentiful, I have spent much
time surrounded by the rich music of their people, and have had that ingrained into my mind as
what Latin music is since I was a child. That same sentiment can be shared by much of the west
coast, yet if one were to ask someone on the east coast or Midwest what Latin music is, their
answers will all differ. This is because Latin music is not one dimensional, nor is it only in
reference to the Spanish influences to said music, but in actuality encompasses the entire Latin
experience and accounts for many geographical locations and differences. The Latin music genre
has grown and adapted to how society has changed overtime to include newer subcultures of music
within the genre itself in order to produce never before seen fusions and styles that lead the way
for ground breaking movements. Being born in the late 1990s, I... Show more content on

African Nova Scotians Character Analysis
Caucasian Canadians gave stereotypes to African Nova Scotians based on their race and the
preconceived ideas that Caucasians had which came from America and Europe. Stereotypes are
caused by people assuming certain behaviours belong to specific groups of people. In the journal,
White Man s Country by John Schultz it states that Caucasian Canadians believed that African
Nova Scotians had loose habits, laziness, sexual appetites, [a] lack of manliness and mental
deficiencies [which] would pollute the pure stream of Canadian morals. These stereotypes believed
by Caucasians made it difficult for African Nova Scotians to find work which impacted their
economic situation. Having this belief that African Nova Scotians were lazy however, did not...

African Nova Scotian children in Halifax had less resources than Caucasian children, many
communities remained without public schools for African Nova Scotians which made it difficult
for children and many adults to make progress in the education and career field. The lack of
opportunities of schooling prevented these children and adults from improving their lives within
a society which discriminated against them and was demanding of having an education or basic
literacy skills to work. Though African Nova Scotians in Halifax were not provided with the
same educational resources such as public schooling this did not prevent African Nova Scotians
from providing their children and themselves with an education or at least the basic literacy skills.
In Africville the church was not only a source for worship but it also provided a space for Sunday
School for children and illiterate adults and these Sunday Schools taught those in the community
how to read and write. If communities did have schools that African Nova Scotians could attend
they were black only schools and these schools did not have the same resources and funding as the
Caucasian schools; many African Nova Scotians

Machado s Unwritten Rules In Baseball
There are unwritten rules in every professional sport that have lasted for generations. For
example, in hockey, many players live by this mantra: If an injury is away from your heart, you
can play. In other words, if you lose a few teeth from a stick slash, or take a few stitches between
periods after absorbing a puck to the face, you re going back in the game because, after all, your
heart is still beating. Hockey players are tough. They re nuts, but they re tough.
Baseball also has a major, unwritten rule: If you intentionally do something bad to my guy, you re
probably going to get plunked by a pitch during your next at bat. During postgame press
conferences, an addendum to this rule is complete denial by all parties involved that ... Show more

The TV cameras documented a verbal exchange between Machado and Pedroia in the aftermath
of the ejections. Machado seemed to be accusing Pedroia of instigating the payback, while
Pedroia vehemently denied it, claiming if he were behind the beaning attempt it would have
happened during Game 1 of the series. Pedroia followed that by saying, It s not me, it s them,
meaning the Barnes/Christian Vazquez battery. As the heart and soul of the Red Sox, and as
great of a player as Pedroia is, it s surprising he would publicly deflect blame for the beaning to
his teammates. Even if that claim is true, there s a time and place for everything, and Pedroia
probably should have had the exchange with Machado privately and not exposed his teammates so
openly.
The incident illustrated that the game has indeed changed. In a famous heated argument between
Jorge Posada and Pedro Martinez following Martinez s beaning of Karim Garcia at Fenway Park
in Game 3 of the 2003 ALCS, the sentiments were quite the opposite. Posada angrily threatened
Martinez for the bean ball, while Martinez motioned to his own head, warning Posada the next time
he faced him he would put one in his ear (watch the video here:

The Segregated School Systems Throughout The United States
The segregated school systems throughout the United States led to questioning the lawfulness
of the school districts refusal to integrate public schools. Oliver Brown was a representative
plaintiff and a parent of a black child who was rejected by a white school in Topeka, Kansas. On
her way to school every morning, Brown s daughter would pass several white schools before
reaching her one room schoolhouse reserved for schooling the black children. According to
Brown, the Kansas school system was in breech of the Constitution s Equal Protection Clause.
Both the facilities and the opportunities that his daughter might find in her school were inferior
without the possibility of ever being equal. However, the federal district court ruled with the
Kansas school board. By referencing the separate but equal doctrine in the case of Plessy v.
Ferguson, the Kansas public schools were equal enough to be considered constitutional. As black
families across the nation searched for equality for their children, other district courts were also
deciding cases based on the rationale separate but equal . Discontent with the decisions made by
the various lower courts, the NAACP, a major civil rights organization, consolidated cases from
Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia, and Delaware and appealed to the Supreme Court in a case
known as Brown v. Board of Education. Through evaluation of segregation s psychological effects,
the protection offered by the Fourteenth Amendment, and the separate

The Characteristics Of Forensic Anthropology
Introduction and background:
Forensic anthropology is a multi disciplinary industry where understanding biological
anthropology and knowledge of human osteology is needed to assist in positively identifying an
individual, (Quinney et al., 2009). The purpose of forensic anthropology is to aid in the
identification process of human skeletal material by means of establishing a biological profile. A
biological profile is formed by the following fundamental characteristics: age, ancestry, stature and
sex. Sex determination is essential in the identification process of human remains, as the number of
potential matches is halved, (Loth and Iscan, 2000) as cited by Bidmos et al., 2010. Other
characteristics, such as age, are dependent on knowing the sex of the individual, (Bidmos et al.,
2010).
Therefore, sexual dimorphism, which is the differences between males and females due to intrinsic
factors (hormones) and extrinsic factors (the environment), provides variation between male and
female skeletal material. These differences allow for easier reconstruction of a biological profile.
The pelvis is a good indicator of sex as it has a high degree of reliability, (Phenice, 1969). However,

The Causes Of Famine
Famine
With food production at an all time high, starvation should be at an all time low, but that is far
from the case. Unfortunately, famine is currently one of the main causes of death in third world
countries. In this essay I will look at the reasons for the famine, the consequences and compare the
ideas of food aid and sustainable livelihoods.
Famine causes malnutrition and death, in 2011, 260 000 people died of famine in Sudan and
Ethiopia. Over half of these were children. (Devi 2017) There is not one cause of famine in third
world countries, but instead multiple factors.
The idea that famine is due to food shortages is false, the world produces more food than we need,
but unfortunately those who need it do not have access to it. ... Show more content on

But if the crop fails, the merchant will be compensated, and receive a high share, while the
farmer will now be in debt. This is due to the sheil system in place. This prevents small farmers
from receiving money if their crop fails. This system is unfair as the sheil merchant sets the
amount of interest, so they will receive money either way, unlike the farmers who will only
receive a small amount if their crop is successful. (Lennart Olsson 1993) This contributed to the
famine as farmers are often in debt as many crops fail due to the drought. They then cannot afford
to by food for their family.
Food aid has become an important part to help the famine in third world countries.
But unfortunately, there is evidence to show that the food aid needs improvement.
A few of the problems said to be from food aid is that the is a) not enough, b) unevenly distributed
or c) is from the donors market.
In 2007 Sudan had a food aid shortfall of $120 million US dollars. (Wahlberg 2008) Because of
this the WFP had to cut food rations and send the aid to smaller areas. This leads into the next
issue, where the food is unevenly distributed. International media has a huge influence on what
crisis get funding, such as the tsunami in 2004 got such a large media coverage that there was a
lot of funding, but in other disasters, especially ones in the middle east, media coverage isn t as

Lascia ch io pianga is an Italian soprano aria by Handel. The melody was first heard in Handel s
1705 opera Almira. Handel used the music repeatedly, again in a 1707 oratorio and four years
later in the opera Rinaldo, the first Italian opera written for the English stage. The story of
Rinaldo takes place in Jerusalem at the end of the eleventh century, at the time of the first
Crusades. The lead character Rinaldo is sitting with his lover, Almirena, when suddenly she is
abducted. In the next act, Almirena is in her captor s custody, taken away from her love and with
no chance to escape. Praying for mercy, Almirena sings Lascia ch io pianga, a song filled with
sadness, fear and longing for Rinaldo. Such emotion can be heard through long vibratos and the

Attitude of Young people of India towards Luxury Brands
Introduction:
A couple of generations ago, a typical purchase decision for the average Indian would be choosing
between, say, clothes and electronic goods whenever they had a little cash to spare. Today, the
customers dilemma involves making up their mind between Prada and Gucci, Merc and
Lamborghini. Marie Antoinette would say, If they can t have bread, give them brands instead!
In a relatively short time span of 20 years, India has moved from pavement markets to swanky
malls, from frugal minded consumer to who want it all and from a population largely obessed with
celebrity gossip to one which yearns to gain knowledge. India is taking ... Show more content on

In this study the researcher investigate, Indian consumer migration towards Luxury brands form
value middle tier brands. The findings suggest that there is significant difference with the gender
difference, social status, price, quality to purchase a luxury good. There is a higher association
between the annual household income and Purchase of luxury goods
It clearly says that affordability, quality, availability, celebrity, self satisfaction, image and social
status are the key drivers to the migration of consumers to Luxury brands from value middle tier
branded goods. It confirms the view that brand perception and purchase value is, apart from
socially oriented motives of buying to impress others also affected by financial, functional, and
individual aspects. It would seem that the dimensions presented in this paper are appropriate
variables for segmenting the market for branded items.

It s obviously showed that with Vladek actions towards people we can understand why they feel
so low. Vladek throughout the story, he stresses the importance of his heart (comparing himself

sweat, blood and tears (energy) it took to survive the Holocaust seems to build up and haunt
Vladek as present (life now). He needs to know that everyone ages and he has to accept the fact
that he s getting old and he cannot be what he once was and that s young again doing all the skillful
things he use to do.
To further exacerbate the situation, a typical father son relationship is all about bonding, trust
and understanding each other. Seemingly he s not able to do so because of the distress
overpowering his brain, he continues to be insensitive to Art. Art can t fathom Vladek and he
starts to lose hope by saying to Francois his women, I mean, I can t even make any sense out of
my relationship with my father..how am I supposed to make sense out of Auschwitz?..the

worse and asked Vladek questions of his mother Anja. Art finds out that her diaries (MAUS 1 159)

Although the production of insecticidal baculoviruses in insect cell cultures has been proposed as
an alternative to overcome the limitations of the in vivo processes, so far no in vitro process could
be even implemented on an industrial scale in India, and baculovirus occlusion bodies are still
produced in infected insectlarvae. Some factors that 25 years ago have hindered the development
of large scale production processes for baculoviruses in insect cell cultures, such as the sensitivity
of insect cells to the stresses linked to the mechanical agitation in stirred tank reactors and to the

entrepreneurs and those issues will be addressed in the present proposal such as 1.Simplification
of the composition of the culture medium: The cost of the culture medium will be reduced by
applying the more empirical approaches like replacement of costly ingredients, such as amino
acids and lipids, by optimized mixtures of raw materials of lower cost such as protein
hydrolysates and cooking oils. 2. Possibility to obtain high volumetric yields of viral OBs: The
usual strategy to produce baculovirus occlusion bodies in insect cell cultures has been the
infection of batch cultures. Generally in batch cultures the high yields are impaired by the cell
density effect . Whenever possible, the adoption of alternative strategies of infection could be a
way to overcome the cell density effect and thus improve the viral productivity. The fed batch
culture, which has proven to be a feasible alternative to increase the yield of recombinant proteins
and BV in Sf9 cell cultures at high density, could also be an alternative strategy to increase the

  • 2. Voter Registration And The Presidential Elections With the current presidential elections approaching soon, there is plenty of political activity going on in our communities. Many people follow the presidential elections and listen to what these candidates have to say, however, there are other elections going on in our own communities that also have a big impact on us. We sometimes tend to forget about our local candidates and at times ignore what they have to offer for us. I, myself, am able to relate to this. I decided to take action and go out to a local community to do voter registration with the hope that people would not only register, but also go out on November 8 and vote. A lot of people often hear the saying that our vote doesn t count. This tends to discourage eligible voters from going out and voting. I went out and asked a few friends and family members about the things that come to mind when they hear the word vote . Being that we are in 2016 and this is a presidential electionyear, most of them responded by saying that choosing a president or a leader came to mind. I also asked if they had plans to vote this November 8th, about half of them said they would vote, the other half split. Some stated that they wouldn t vote because they have the idea that their vote doesn t count or because they weren t registered to vote. Before deciding to get involved in voter registration, I was one of those people that did not have much interest in voting. Prior to joining a voter registration team, I myself wasn t sure ... The Paradox Of Gladiators Often seen as working class heroes, Roman Gladiators have become an icon to the it is nearly impossible to think of the Roman Empire without the association of Gladiators were a paradox within Roman society. They were viewed both as the superstars of their day , but also ranked in the lowest tier of Roman society (Baker, 2000, pg.3). This unique relationship of being held in contempt while also being adorned made the relationship of gladiators to Roman society very interesting because it influenced why people might participate in the games. Although the majority of gladiators were slaves, some were volunteers, women and political figures. Slaves were a part of the gladiator games because they didn t have much say. Their owners there was a general consensus for who was a gladiator... (define ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was done in grades of gladiator training called Palus . The highest attainable grade for a gladiator was Prime Palus . At this point, the gladiator was not only a huge asset to the ludus, but also viewed as teacher who could pass along wisdom to other gladiators. The paradox of gladiators continues within the school because they live in prison like conditions and are still viewed as slaves, but because they had the potential to earn large profits for their masters they were well taken care of in many areas. They usually received three meals a day, and the best gladiators were also privy to treats. After examining bones from gladiator graveyards, evidence suggest Gladiators ate a largely vegetarian diet. Hollywood movies often misinterpret gladiators as travelers. Gladiators didn t travel from city to city for combat, they usually just fought in the cities they lived in. Another misconception is that the gladiators fought as a team because that is depicted in movies. Each man or woman was on their own unless they were specifically participating in a style of fighting where there was more than one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Literary Devices Of Wrapped In Red Literary Devices of Wrapped in Red Kelly Clarkson s world famous song Wrapped in Red is a successful song to America, as well being adapted internationally. Wrapped in Red is an American song about how much Christmas influences the idea of falling in love in the artist s point of view. Also, it s about how after many years of having a secret love, she will let her feelings loose in Christmasday. The artist creates a romantic mood throughout the song, The song includes 3 important literary devices, thoroughly analyzed, that make the song special and a success; imagery, repetition, and the colors expressed as feelings from the artist, Kelly Clarkson. Although color expression isn t a proper device, Clarkson did an amazing job expressing her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her first statement of imagery was when she stated as her second line in the first verse, Snow is falling down. This one s not hard to comprehend; it simply means that it s winter time and it s snowing in her location area. When the artist also stated, So I m at your door with nothing more than words I ve never said, indicates the pure fear of showing love to somebody you ve known for years in a friendly manner. In other words, Clarkson is planning to confess her love, but there s a fear inside her that says, He won t feel the same way. The richest imagery Clarkson has shown in Wrapped in Red was when she stated, In all this white, you ll see me like you ve never seen me yet wrapped in red. Even though the idea was not directly clear, and quite hard to understand, the artist did an incredible job using imagery in this line. Since the time in the song is winter, white connects to the season because everything is very clear. From the artist s point of view, her secret love has seen her as nothing more than a friend; everything has been clear between them. Now, the artist wants to be noticed, and the only way to do that, is to stand out and confess. It s incredible how rich Clarkson makes her imagery, particularly with the use of colors and ... The current essay will support the dopamine hypothesis of schizophrenia by using empirical research. The classic dopamine hypothesis state that the excess of dopamine is subcortically related with the positive symptoms (Abi Dargham, 1999). In an experiment, firstly brain scans were done to achieve baseline D2 receptor availability (Abi Dargham, 1999). The fluctuations in the synaptic dopamine levels were measured using in vivo binding techniques, the competition between endogenous levels of the neurotransmitter and the radiotracer for binding to the D2 dopamine receptors (Abi Dargham, 1999). Injection of amphetamine, cause dopamine to be released into the synapse (Abi Dargham, 1999). Resulting high levels of concentration of the endogenous dopamine in contrast, decreasing the amount of radiotracer available to bind to the dopamine receptor (Abi Dargham, 1999). • 11. Credit Card Debt in America Inga Gudmundsson 15 October 2008 English 100 Analytical Essay Debt Credit card debt is one of this nation s leading internal problems, and it has been for around the last 3 4 decades. When credit was first introduced, and up until around the late 1970 s up to today, the standards for getting a credit card were very high; so not everybody could get one. The bar got lowered and lowered to where, eventually, an 18 year old college student with almost no income and nothing to base a credit score on previously could obtain a credit card (much like myself). The national credit card debt for families residing in the United States alone is in the trillions (Maxed Out). The average American family has around $9,000 in debt, and pays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These rates do not just do this on their own. They are caused by a factor called universal default. (Jaffe) The universal default, written in all of the small print that comes with every newly issued credit card, states that if one is more than 30 days late on a credit card payment, the rate of interest on these debts will increase dramatically (Jaffe). Ironically, the universal default is not universally known and understood. This all really started in 1978, when the Supreme Court decided to leave the interest rates up to State Government (McGeehan). This caused many banks to move their credit card operation stations to states that had removed caps on interest rates, such as South Dakota and Delaware (McGeehan). What has been happening lately, which is not quite yet illegal, is that credit card companies will apply this universal default rule to not only the 30 day late payment period, but will apply it to missing mortgage payments, utility or car payments, carrying too much debt in the first place, using over half of your credit limit for most of your credit cards, and many more things (Jaffe). This is causing people left and right to double their debt with interest rates. For every $1 in principle spent by the average American, they are paying around $2 3 dollars in interest (Maxed Out). However, the aggressive tactics used by these lenders (in raising interest rates and charging unnecessary fees) have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They would show more skin and have tighter outfits. Men would start to wear suits and look more formal. The cowboy look would start to play a big role during this time. Many men would wear different colors including pink. Before the 1950 s many teenagers would wear the same exact clothes as their parents did, in the 50 s we start to see fashion including teenagers as their own fashion. Teenage girls would wear more colors, and tighter dresses to get a finer look. We also see that the teenagers start to go farther into the accessories by wearing pearls, necklaces and waves many high class wives would too. It is pretty easy to make a list for both, but a bit easier to make a list for the pros, so we will do that. The first and most important things brought to us by technology is the communication. Pros We are a pretty social bunch, and with phones, social media and by other means we are able to contact people from long distances for no reason at all, and with no effort. These things allow us to stay in contact with family, and even long distance relationships, as if they ever work. Now this one is completely my opinion, and i m not interested in starting an arguement, but the pros and cons for this one, in my eyes are simply put. Pros When it comes to video games I personally go to them to blow off steam. Now I see this as a great pro, because when some child or even adults just want to hit something games can pull them back from doing something stupid. They may just go home play some GTA, putting their anger into a game, so that no one actually gets harmed. Cons The con for gaming is, in my eyes, just the fact that they can tend to distract from other real life things. When you got homework, but you have just one more; you can fill in the blank. For the first time in the United States history, a majority of Americans favor legalizing marijuana. Opponents of legalization argue that making marijuana use legal will lead to an increase in drug related societal problems. The US should create a new policy to legalize marijuana. Legalizing it would increase tax revenue and help increase employment. It would reduce inmates in jails and prisons. With criminal justice reform it will decriminalize the substance. They only see the plot and the characters and call it good. Yet, they forget to recognize the other aspects of the film. In this film, I ve noticed quite a bit of literary aspects of the picture. The plot of the movie is what makes the movie what it is, however there are more ideas and things that go into the plot. The first thing that I noticed was the realistic nature of the plot. A plot like this wouldn t work in a different time period but with it being set during the Cold War, it makes sense, however, the nature of the characters is one that would make one question it. When we look back at history and the cold war, we see that in that time period, there was a lot of patriotism on both sides and how very close we were to nuclear war. In this case, I find it a bit weird that Marko Ramius wanted to go to the United States. Maybe he was against the ideology of the Soviet Union, but even then it is a bit weird. What the plot does is it leaves everything resolved, just what a plot should do. The dialogue in the film can be viewed as realistic due to the nature of the plot, causing one to be confused at times due to topics of discussion involving the submarines or anything along the subject line. The overall theme that I felt in the movie was the theme of discovery. Throughout the motion picture, we see Jack Ryan try and find the Red October, leading me to the theme of ... Throughout this time period kings find that they now need to consult with a council in order rule successfully. This time period begins with an absolute monarchy, but the authority of the king is gradually limited. These changes slowly grow thought this time period while the authority of parliament increases. This time period also calls into question how the king is viewed, whether as a person or as an office. This essay will trace the political authority of the king and his growing limitations. Additionally, it will discuss the birth of parliament and its increase in political power not only as a whole, but also in relationship to the power of the king. It is within the reign of King John, where limitation of the king s power is called into play. These limitations will set the stage for the eventual formation of parliament and a lessening of the king s influence that future kings cannot ignore. However, with John, as opposed to these future kings, the changes are relatively ineffective, but will set incoming limitation to the king s power in motion. These events are triggered when war breaks out in France as of 1202 when the French King gives John s titles to Arthur, Duke of Brittany. John achieves a victory at Mirebeau, but as of 1204, he loses much of the northern empire. In 1214, after the loss at the Battle of Bouvines, John ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Antigone Tragic Character Analysis A tragic character is a character in a tragic play that goes through the three different stages of a tragic character. The stages of a tragic character are hamartia, peripeteia, and anagnorisis. Hamartia is the flaw in their personality that leads to their downfall. A flaw could often be, but not limited to pride, ignorance, and selfishness. Peripeteia is the characters change in fortune also leading to their downfall. This is the part in the play where the story flips to give the tragic character different circumstances. These flips are mostly out of the control of the character and decided by gods or other uncontrollable forces. Anagnorisisis the epiphany that the character has towards the end of the tragedy. This is when the tragic character realizes that their tragic flaw has led to their downfall, and their change in fortune cannot be avoided. I think that there are many characters in Antigone that could fit the criteria of a tragic character, but there is only one character that fits the description of a tragic character perfectly. Antigone is often perceived as the tragic character as the play is named after her and she is the protagonist. She does possess some of the qualities of a tragic character, but not all of them. Her hamartia, or tragic flaw is her loyalty to her family which causes her to rebel against authority. But if you were to somehow ask Antigone if she would have been less loyal to her family if the result would have been different, I almost guarantee that she wouldn t have changed a thing. Her change in fortune could be when Creon decides to put her to death because of her actions. This isn t really a change in fortune because she knew this would happen if she buried her brother. I do not think Antigone ever went through the last stage of a tragic character. She never had a realization of her mistake that led to her downfall. She was fine with taking the consequences of her actions, and found no fault in her personality or decision. She might have ended the story with suicide, but there was not a moment that she regret making the decisions that she did. Because of this, I do not think Antigone is the tragic character in the play as one might argue. I think a character that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Career counseling takes into consideration character development, character skills, life roles, individual life and work history, goals, and obstacles. A careercounselor not only assists a client with a career plan, but also with a life plan. This paper focuses on two categories of career counseling. With this new growth and few regulations of labor, laborers were exploited and misused. They were all conflicted in their lives, going from happiness in the beginning to depression in the end (Cooke 39). Although John Cheever was not understood well, he had a knack for telling the brutal honesty of suburbia life in America. Perhaps that is his lasting legacy. Literary Analysis In a story, an author has the difficult task of telling a whole tale with compelling emotion and a meaningful message. Many wonder how an author gets all of their ideas. One way an author can get their ideas is through their own life. That is called parallelism. John Cheever is, again, the master of this technique. Living in the suburbs, he always told a story of an adult with a dark story to tell. The Swimmer is nothing different. In this short story, Neddy says he is going to swim home from a neighbor s pool and encounters many demons during the sequence. The demons Neddy meets on his way are another way of Cheever putting himself and his own demons in his work. Everyone knows by now that Cheever had a problem with alcohol. He starts off in in the first paragraph with everyone talking about how they drank too much, multiple times (1). This implies that Neddy was drinking as well, for in ... The Klamath River Basin, like much of the western United States, has much federal influence because of the prevalence of federal lands in the basin. The policy making bodies within the Klamath make decisions based on the missions and interests of their individual agencies, and sometimes these missions can be contradictory(Wilson 2010). In America there is not one culture that is not represented here in some form. While each culture is unique, it is also more similar to other cultures than anyone would realize. In the Joy luck Club by Amy Tan, the stories follow sets of mothers and daughters who are Chinese and what their lives in China and America are like. The Chinese have a very rich and extensive culture, with customs and beliefs varying depending on the areas of China because of how large the country is. Likewise, the Czechs, who are from what is now known as the Czech Republic, are a rich culture from Europe which represents the inhabitants of Moravia, Bohemia, and Silesia as a whole (Molinari 2017). The two cultures are very unique from one another for many reasons such as the reasons that they moved to the places that they did in America, and their cuisine, but they also share many similarities such as what they changed when they moved to America, and the importance of stories and proverbs in their lives. The Chinese and Czech cultures are very unique cultures that share many similarities. The Chinese moved to San Francisco because of the jobs that the area offered them. Government Accountability Office, Report to Congressional Requesters, September 2013, GAO 13 757] INTRODUCTION One of the Federal Aviation Administration s (FAA) primary modernization goals is to implement policies that ensure their 1,230 facilities enable robust Air Traffic Control (ATC) services to meet air traffic demand requirements in a safe and efficient manner for all citizens. These facilities provide the foundation for which the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) programs are built on. The challenge of maintaining such complex airport and facility infrastructures is in the assessment of needs and implementing a clear upgrade and sustainment prioritization strategy that supports those needs. Similar to large private organizations the FAA utilizes business policies that identify requirements, mitigate risk to staff and operations, and accelerate performance. However, to often the expectation of seeing an immediate measurable change given a strategy has been implemented is misguided. Evidence has shown policy changes display their impact in long term gains or losses not short term. Latin Music Thesis Growing up in Arizona where the Hispanic culture is so vibrant and plentiful, I have spent much time surrounded by the rich music of their people, and have had that ingrained into my mind as what Latin music is since I was a child. That same sentiment can be shared by much of the west coast, yet if one were to ask someone on the east coast or Midwest what Latin music is, their answers will all differ. This is because Latin music is not one dimensional, nor is it only in reference to the Spanish influences to said music, but in actuality encompasses the entire Latin experience and accounts for many geographical locations and differences. The Latin music genre has grown and adapted to how society has changed overtime to include newer subcultures of music within the genre itself in order to produce never before seen fusions and styles that lead the way for ground breaking movements. There are multiple functional changes that can occur in order for AT T to improve their sustainability. Hockey players are tough. They re nuts, but they re tough. Pedroia followed that by saying, It s not me, it s them, meaning the Barnes/Christian Vazquez battery. As the heart and soul of the Red Sox, and as great of a player as Pedroia is, it s surprising he would publicly deflect blame for the beaning to his teammates. Even if that claim is true, there s a time and place for everything, and Pedroia probably should have had the exchange with Machado privately and not exposed his teammates so openly. The incident illustrated that the game has indeed changed. In a famous heated argument between Jorge Posada and Pedro Martinez following Martinez s beaning of Karim Garcia at Fenway Park in Game 3 of the 2003 ALCS, the sentiments were quite the opposite. The Segregated School Systems Throughout The United States The segregated school systems throughout the United States led to questioning the lawfulness of the school districts refusal to integrate public schools. Oliver Brown was a representative plaintiff and a parent of a black child who was rejected by a white school in Topeka, Kansas. On her way to school every morning, Brown s daughter would pass several white schools before reaching her one room schoolhouse reserved for schooling the black children. According to Brown, the Kansas school system was in breech of the Constitution s Equal Protection Clause. Both the facilities and the opportunities that his daughter might find in her school were inferior without the possibility of ever being equal. However, the federal district court ruled with the Kansas school board. By referencing the separate but equal doctrine in the case of Plessy v. As black families across the nation searched for equality for their children, other district courts were also deciding cases based on the rationale separate but equal . Discontent with the decisions made by the various lower courts, the NAACP, a major civil rights organization, consolidated cases from Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia, and Delaware and appealed to the Supreme Court in a case known as Brown v. • 45. The Characteristics Of Forensic Anthropology Introduction and background: Forensic anthropology is a multi disciplinary industry where understanding biological anthropology and knowledge of human osteology is needed to assist in positively identifying an individual, (Quinney et al., 2009). The purpose of forensic anthropology is to aid in the identification process of human skeletal material by means of establishing a biological profile. A biological profile is formed by the following fundamental characteristics: age, ancestry, stature and sex. Sex determination is essential in the identification process of human remains, as the number of potential matches is halved, (Loth and Iscan, 2000) as cited by Bidmos et al., 2010. Other characteristics, such as age, are dependent on knowing the sex of the individual, (Bidmos et al., 2010). Therefore, sexual dimorphism, which is the differences between males and females due to intrinsic factors (hormones) and extrinsic factors (the environment), provides variation between male and female skeletal material. These differences allow for easier reconstruction of a biological profile. The pelvis is a good indicator of sex as it has a high degree of reliability, (Phenice, 1969). However, it ... Unfortunately, famine is currently one of the main causes of death in third world countries. Famine causes malnutrition and death, in 2011, 260 000 people died of famine in Sudan and Ethiopia. Over half of these were children. (Devi 2017) There is not one cause of famine in third world countries, but instead multiple factors. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But if the crop fails, the merchant will be compensated, and receive a high share, while the farmer will now be in debt. This is due to the sheil system in place. This prevents small farmers from receiving money if their crop fails. This system is unfair as the sheil merchant sets the amount of interest, so they will receive money either way, unlike the farmers who will only receive a small amount if their crop is successful. (Lennart Olsson 1993) This contributed to the famine as farmers are often in debt as many crops fail due to the drought. They then cannot afford to by food for their family. Food aid has become an important part to help the famine in third world countries. But unfortunately, there is evidence to show that the food aid needs improvement. A few of the problems said to be from food aid is that the is a) not enough, b) unevenly distributed or c) is from the donors market. In 2007 Sudan had a food aid shortfall of $120 million US dollars. (Wahlberg 2008) Because of this the WFP had to cut food rations and send the aid to smaller areas. This leads into the next issue, where the food is unevenly distributed.
