Spiritual Journey In Siddhartha
Personal experience can greatly shape an author s work. This theory came to play in several of
Hermann Hesse s novels. More importantly, through one of his most popular novels, known as,
Siddhartha, Hesse takes the reader on a spiritual journey. Hermann Hesse wrote the novel Siddhartha
in 1922 after becoming fascinated with the Indian culture, as stated by an excerpt from Encyclopedia
of World Literature in the 20th Century. The excerpt also stated that Hesse became fascinated with the
Indian culture after his religious family performed a missionary there. In 1911, Hesse took a journey
to India, which sparked his fascination even more, likewise expressed in the excerpt. After having
these experiences with the Indian culture, Hesse wrote the novel describing some of the attributes he
learned while in India. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Siddhartha, who is the main character in this novel goes through numerous adjustments in his life on
his spiritual journey. Hence, the concept that Siddhartha s biggest enemy was himself. Some readers
may believe Siddhartha was selfish due to him not being happy with the spiritual knowledge given to
him by the Samanas and his father. Instead, he suddenly took on a journey with his friend, Govinda, to
find enlightenment and peace within himself. Siddhartha encountered many stages through his journey
which taught him moral lessons. Consequently, these lessons relate to his self being and the world
around him. By the end of the novel, Siddhartha becomes content with his self and knows his true
calling. To add, after the readers finish the novel, it is clear that Hesse was vividly describing his own
life experiences. By using symbolism, repetition, and tone, Hermann Hesse highlights how Siddhartha
and Hesse experienced the same search for meaning and identity in their

Under The Dome Stephen King
Stephen King s Under the Dome presents a unique story that is both thought provoking and
entertaining. The introduction of the dome creates compelling social dynamics that would otherwise
not have been possible. In many ways the dome is a microcosm of earth complete with its own
conflicts, environmental disasters, and just about every social issue imaginable. The alien entities were
equally thought provoking. From their perspective humans were nothing more than ants to be toyed
with. They had no empathy or compassion, only pity. Julia Shumway s interaction with the entity
causes an introspective evaluation on how we treat other people.
James Big Jim Rennie steals the show as the novel s villain. Rennie is a bit of a paradox. On one hand

Fences, By And Pulitzer Prize Award Essay
Men have to always set rules for their families and ensure that they are always followed and respected.
Thus, men can be strong (this does not mean only physical strength, but may mean many other things
being firm in taking a position, for example, or being influential by speaking his mind, etc.) .
(Langness) In both stories the male father figure was strict mentally rather than just physical. Women
who are abused by the men they live with find themselves progressively disenfranchised from their
own beliefs, memories, values, and emotions .(Adams) August Wilson the author of the play
Fences(1983) was a very well known author who wrote playwrights in 1980s. August Wilson won
three awards for the play Fences, which were the Outer Critics, Tony, and Pulitzer Prize Award. The
play Fences is a brief play about a 53 year old African American man who struggles to provide for his
family. Next, Chinua Achebe (Albert Chinualumogu Achebe) is a Nigerian author from Africa who
writes novels and teaches as a professor at Brown University. The story Things Fall Apart(1958) is
about a Tribe leader who experiences the struggles of colonialism and traditional societies within his
tribe. Men dominance in the household throughout the playwright Fences and the novel Things Fall
Apart varied from men strictness with children and power over their wives.
First, strictness with children was a major key for men to ensure that what they said goes. That boy

One way Ken can open this conversation more productively is by owning his feelings and thoughts.
Ken can do this by using I language instead of you language (Wood, 2012). By doing so, Ken would
take responsibility for his thoughts and feelings, therefore making the conversation more productive
(Wood, 2012). Another way Ken can make this conversation more productive is by expressing his
emotions. First, Ken must first learn to identify how he is feeling to properly express his emotions
(Wood, 2012). This would be a good start by making this conversation productive. However, Ken
must decide whether or not expressing his emotions would be beneficial in this situation (Wood,

There are many different ways Jan could have convinced Ken to forgive her. I do not believe that
these attempts to apologize our genuine. Jan could have been more honest with Ken when she was

not keeping a secret Jan uses chronemics as one of her nonverbal cues. Chronemics is how time is
perceived what shapes our identities and interaction (Wood, 2012). One way she uses this nonverbal
cue is when she compared the time was Shannon and the present time with Ken. Another nonverbal
cue she uses his physical appearance. The two nonverbal cues Ken uses is kinesics and environmental

During the 21st century our country and our planet as a whole is in energy crisis. We have used too
many oils and fossil fuel that our non renewable resources are running out. Oil is limited and is at
outrageous prices, this result is making our economy suffering. With fossil fuel and oil as the main
source of energy the people of this planet need to start looking for an alternative energy source
because our fossil fuel will not last forever and fossil fuel also polluted our planet. This is where a
renewable energy comes in. I will start talking about one of the oldest renewable energy know to man,
one of the many renewable energy we have today are Geothermal Energy. Geothermal energy is one
of the many different ways we can preserve our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Geologist who have studied geothermal energy uses the sonar, heat ray and satellite imagery to
determine where are most of the geothermal activity going on. They still have to be careful to dig
underground to find the perfect heat and water to build their power plant. There are four main kinds of
geothermal resources; they are hydrothermal, Geo pressured, hot dry rock and magma. The most
common use is the hydrothermal resource. Hydrothermal resources have a common ingredient of
water and heat. This geothermal reservoir of steam or hot water occur naturally were magma comes
close enough to the surface to heat the ground. Water circulates at great depth along the faults.
Hydrothermal resources are used for many different energy purposes depending on the temperature.
When low temperature occurs, it is a direct use for heating. The other kinds are the high temperature it
produce electricity. When temperature of geothermal energy occurs around 104.444 Celsius it can
used to generate electricity. Geothermal power in Australia is not much but it is still growing process,
just like the rest of the world. There are a known and potential location nears the center of Australia
that can be used to for geothermal power plant. The earth is hotbed of geothermal energy. The most
active geothermal resource is usually found near major earthquakes and volcanoes. One of the places
where geothermal is generally produce is Iceland, according to

Essay Nick s Self-Discovery in Hemingway s In Our Time
Nick s Self Discovery in Hemingway s In Our Time
The focus of this essay will be to analyze Nick s transition as he moves from mental isolation, to
physical isolation, to maturation and self discovery.
If Nick s life were to be chronologically ordered and analyzed, the stories Indian Camp and The
Doctor and the Doctor s Wife would definitely come first. It is these two stories that give us the first
insight to what kind of character that Nick really is as a child. Because Nick is only mentioned briefly
in the latter story, I think that Indian Camp is more significant in analyzing the portrayal of his
character. I suppose the one passage that truly gives insight about the innocence (and ignorance) of ...

The significance of the quote, It isn t fun any more. Not any of it (34) is the absence of emotion and
meaning in his life. Obviously, the way in which Nick broke up with Marjorie is that he was searching
for something in life that was not yet to be found; not in her or, as it appears, anyone. It is this
hollowness that I think directly relates back to his relationship with his father and is the same lack of
emotion that lead Nick to go to war and to continue wandering by himself after he returns. It is this
same emotion (or lack there of) that is apparent in The Three Day Blow, as well. Though he expresses
some remorse over his break up with Marge ( All he knew is that he had once had Marjorie and that he
had lost her (47)), I truly believe that there was something else that deeply troubled Nick. It is in these
two stories, however, that the reader can begin to infer that Nick, though once a content child who
would never die, is now searching for something in life, whether it be adequacy or meaning. Thus,
these stories are important because they show his maturation and make a preface for the events that
follow.
The Battler seems to be the culmination of Nick s psuedo depression that is sensed in the two stories
before it. The reader can infer that, whether to leave his parents, to seek meaning in life, or just for
adventure, Nick has taken on the life of a

The Death Of The Rainbow By Ntozake Shange
Life can be full of hardship, deceit, and catastrophe. In life, everyone struggles to stay afloat the
tsunami of troubles flooding them. However, some people struggle more than others, and some people
face much tougher encumbrances. In For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When The
Rainbow Is Enuf, Ntozake Shange shows each woman struggling to overcome a troubling past that
leads them to question the value of their own lives. In order to free themselves from the issues
suffocating them, they must eliminate the suffering part of themselves and unite to be reborn as
stronger women. This is expressed through the predominant idea of suicide throughout the piece.
Suicide can be defined as the act of killing oneself with intention. As drastic as this may sound, it can
be perceived that Shange s play was not focusing on suicide in a literal term. Instead, she was focusing
primarily on suicide in a figurative way. Suicide was used as a metaphor to illustrate the death of the
traumatized parts of the women. The women in Shange s play lived their lives plagued with tragedy
and abuse. In a sense, each woman had an experience that could truly justify committing suicide;
however, the women beat the odds, and in the end they unite to prevail over the burdens affecting
them. Most of the women in Shange s play were victims of heinous crimes. For example, the lady in

Sermon On The Mount
During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus covered many ideas, rules, and other important topics. This
speech is covered in three consecutive chapters (5 7) in the book of Matthew. Since Jesus was
teaching during this sermon, each chapter consists of at least five topics that explain the teachings.
Starting with the first chapter (5) of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus begins the speech by introducing
the Beatitudes. After this section, the discussion of Salt and Light is introduced. The third topic comes
to be Fulfillment of Law followed by Murder as the fourth topic. These topics are followed by
Adultery and Divorce, which make up the fifth and sixth topics. Finally, the last topics in this chapter
include Oaths, Eye for eye, and Love for Enemies. In total, these topics make up nine matters make up
the first chapter of the Sermon on the Mount. The next chapter of this speech is chapter six in the book
of Matthew. There is a total of five topics that Jesus talks about. This chapter begins with the idea of
Giving to the Needy followed by the topic of Prayer. Next, comes the topic of Fasting, which is the
third idea of this chapter. Treasures in Heaven make up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Prophets. True and False Prophets is followed by a similar topic by the title of True and False
Disciples and this makes the fifth topic in chapter seven. Lastly, the sermon concludes with the
discussion of Wise and Foolish Builders. Chapter seven is noted in the chapter of parables. Many of
the topics discussed in this chapter are parables that Jesus used to explain a certain idea, rule, or

Alternative Press In Vietnam War
t first my paper was going to be around what happen to the Vietnam people after the Vietnam war and
their struggles to migrate to other countries. This seemed to be a very interesting topic to cover to

Vietnam, her family has migrated to American when she was just 5 years old. This topic seemed to be
very sensitive for her to talk about, I brought to much pain to talk about her parents that didn t survive

Mr. Smith And His Burglary Charges
I still mostly agree with my initial post on Mr. Smith and his burglary charges, but I challenge my idea
that justice is not served because he only pleaded guilty to two counts. Since the evidence is
circumstantial and the defendant has no prior record, the plea deal does serve justice. Just because you
believe a person to be guilty of X amount of crimes does not mean he is guilty. If the evidence is
shaky and the defendant is clean, justice is determined through what is presented. I also noted in the
initial post that the defendant could have burglarized more homes, but not caught. This is a stretch and
should never come into the decision process, unless evidence can be provided. With regards to Mr.
Smith, he might seem to be getting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yes, he is high figure in the organization, but there are many other ways of going after the mob bosses
without giving Jimmy immunity. Couldn t Jimmy be used to gain more information from the mob
bosses? For example, offer him a less severe sentence, but make him wear a wire or some sort. He
might have information to give, but make it earn it. Murdering someone should not give you a free
pass. Feedback to the Mr. Smith case: I still come back to the idea of the circumstantial evince and
that the prosecution should try the case in court or offer him a better plea for the victims. Yes,
resources are better used if the case is pleaded out, but I still believe you cannot over look how many
homes he burglarized. I believe a pattern has evolved and he could be more dangerous than perceived.
I would agree that if Mr. Smith had something to offer, the plea deal for guilty on two counts could be
fine. It all comes down to how many homes he burglarized. Twenty is a lot and shows more than I
believe is being taken into account. To Jimmy and the mob bosses, I agree with the statement that the
government is at fault for not finding evidence to convict higher up mob bosses and giving Jimmy
immunity. If the government cannot put together a case against the mob bosses without giving
immunity to a killer, than the mob bosses haven t done anything illegal or they are so good at what
they do, they do not leave a trace. Why believe a killer? He is probably going to say anything to save

George Orwell Politics And The English Language
Language is the network of communication in thought, spoken words, and written verse. It is
structural and formed through the development and adaptions of human beings. As art itself, language
takes the configuration of the world and conveys itself in a diverse manner. Although, some persons
argue that language shall be strictly followed and contain no modifications for that ruins the sole
purpose of language being our system of disclosure. George Orwell, in his text Politics and the
English Language , delivers a message of traditional English being taken further from its roots and
changed into something harsh and inadequate. On the other hand, there s the more lenient and open
author, James Baldwin, who in his text, If Black English isn t a Language, Then Tell me, What is? ,
delivers a cry of despair for the language that has grown as its own from his culture and background.
Thus, both Orwell and Baldwin have similar and different outlooks on the perception of language and
how it should be presented in thought and literature. To begin with their differences, Orwell expounds
on the faults of English language when written constructively. In his text, Politics and the English
Language , he pleads with his concerns about modern writers and their writing structure through a
haughty and conservative perspective. To this author, language and writing is incorrigible. For
instance, in the text he states, In certain kinds of writing, particularly in art criticism and

Anabolic Steroid Use by Athletes Essay
In the 1988 Summer Olympics, an unbelievable feat occurred. The feat happened during one of the
premiere events, the 100 meter dash. The event was set up to be a great race between Carl Lewis of
the United States and Ben Johnson of Canada. This did not happen. Ben Johnson blew away the field
running a 9.79, a world record. Carl Lewis finished a distant second with a 9.88 ( Ben Johnson ).
That is not the end of the story. Later on, the runners had to take a urinalysis. All of the runners passed
but one, Ben Johnson. He tested positive for anabolic steroid use. It was later discovered that he d
been using steroids for several years. He was striped of his gold medal and his world record. Carl

cocaine, crack, marijuana, and heroin. This class is more for social use than for the help it provides the

Anabolic steroids technically called anabolic androgenic steroids are a part of erogenic drugs and a
member of the second classification. They are a synthetic derivative of the male hormone testosterone.
These drugs along with exercise training allow a person to bulk up greatly, which may enhance an

The first competitive athletes charged with doping were swimmers from Amsterdam. These
competitors would dope with anything from strychnine and caffeine to cocaine and heroin. Their
doping spread to other countries as well ( NIDA . . . ). Doping finally lead to a higher level, steroids.
The first steroids were created in the 1930 s,

Athletic Trainers Role In Athletic Training
Athletic trainers in today s sports world receive pressure everyday when it comes to deciding when to
return an athlete to play. Athletic trainers have such a big responsibility when it comes to the health
and care of the athletes that they work with. Trainers are the first person that an athlete will see when
they become injured during a game, and in most cases when the athlete performs rehab. The athlete
depends on the athletic trainer to diagnose his or her injury, and then help him or her recovery to pre
injury health. With this responsibility also comes consequence. If an athletic trainer returns an athlete

This is especially the case if the game is in progress in the athlete has an important role. Each athlete
that comes off the field or court after being hit in the head must go through a cognitive test called a
Standardized Assessment of Concussion (SAC). This test is used immediately after the head trauma to
test the athlete on their Strength, Memory, Coordination, Concentration, and Physical Movements.
The SAC only takes approximately 5 to 7 minutes to administer (Straus). The problem that athletic
trainers face with testing an athlete after a head impact is dealing with the coach. When an athlete is
required to perform a 5 to 7 minute test in the middle of a game when the coach needs them, can cause
the coach to get very aggravated and be right in the ear of the trainer. It can put stress and pressure on
the trainer, which could then cause them to make an error during the testing of the athlete. SAC has
value in helping sports medicine professionals in detecting and quantifying acute cognitive
impairment on the sports sideline, particularly in identifying concussions in the 90 to 95% of cases
(Straus). If a coach distracts the trainer from performing the best SAC test for an athlete that
percentage is going to drop, and the trainer could miss evaluate the athlete. This could place the
athlete at risk if they are allowed to return to play too soon, and make the athletic trainer liable if that
athlete gets seriously injured. Sideline evaluations can be a big factor on the pressure that athletic

The Waterfall Method And Source Code
The Waterfall method uses documentation at the onset of the project that clearly defines the software
requirements. The creation of the documentation and source code usually takes a significant amount of
time. This time consuming process is usually circumvented when using an Agile approach (Arken,
2008). The process, however time consuming, is also extremely important. By clearly defining the
goals and objectives of the project, stakeholders like the customers and developers are on the same
page at the start. Another clear benefit to having documentation of project requirements is realized
whenever there is a change of personnel during the project lifetime. The creation of documentation
helps prevent project failure if one or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By providing working iterations of code to stakeholders several times over the course of a projects
life, changes are requested and the code is altered on demand; this can help prevent project failure.
Customer oriented Development
To this point, one stark contrast between the Waterfall and Agile methods of software development is
the degree to which they involve the customer. In this sense it is easier to think of the Waterfall model
as being more predictive and the Agile model as being more adaptive . There are milestones in either
case, but the changes that are a result of customer input drive the flow of development in an Agile
system (Arken 2008). One can see how the adaptive vs. predictive differences can become more of a
problem where finances are concerned.
Project Management
Looking at each methodology from a different perspective, the management perspective, unveils
additional benefits and setbacks. The rigidity of the Waterfall method for software development can be
cumbersome when dealing with changing expectations, but it makes it easier for management to
manage the project s progression. Having clear goals makes it easy for managers to track the
development process. It is more difficult to track a project where requirements are constantly
evolving. Most of the projects (not involving software development) in our department are tracked
through their process. As goals are achieved, completion nears 100%.

Jesus Change
During class time, we learned about Jesus s impact on people. Many people were changed a lot. They
became kinder and more friendly. We could see this through people s reactions to God and the good
things they did. Through Jesus s teaching, not only Paul and people in the Bible, but every Christian is
becoming better people.
Among all the apostles, the change from Saul to Paul is the most amazing one for me. The name Saul
was once a deadly word for the citizens under Saul s control. He hated Christians at first. He arrested
and even killed a lot of apostles. Evil and cruel are the two words that best described him. He was a
demon before he was changed by Jesus.
In Acts 9, Saul was completely changed. When he went into the city of Damascus, ... Show more

When Jesus appeared in front of him and told him that he needed to save Saul, he hesitated. His
hesitation reflected the evilness of Saul. God chose Ananias because of his pure faith. The evilness
that stopped a faithful apostle from obeying God s order must be huge. It indirectly showed how bad
Saul was and how huge the change was as well. The reaction of Ananias is an important element in
here. Saul s changes were unbelievable. He was such an evil killer three days ago. No one could
imagine that three days later, he became a true believer of Jesus. Jesus purified his soul. This made
him act like a savior. All the sins were washed away. He became a faithful follower in Jesus and God.
The bible talked a lot about his faith after being healed. In Acts 21, Paul was arrested by the Jews. He
was with the people that grabbed him. After he turned to Jesus, he showed his faith towards God. He
could have been with the persecutors and keep looking for Christians. However, he gave up the life he
was used to and changed all his characteristics. Acts 22 described the things he did after he was
released. He said, I was very serious about serving God, the same as all of you here today. (Acts 22:3)

Conservation and Preservation at the Turn of the 19th Century
Missing Works Cited
The environmentalist movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries presents a picture of America
at the time: torn between the desires to expand while seeking to protect nature. Although all members
of the movement sought to protect nature, there were two predominant schools as to how to go about
this. In their two philosophies, they created two methods for human interaction with the wilderness.
The conservationist movement can be called the utilitarian movement, and sought the greatest good
for the greatest number over the longest term. In contrast, the preservationist school aimed at keeping
nature in its current state, although the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This networking would serve him later in life, but first he had to receive an education in forestry,
something unavailable in America. Thus he traveled to Germany to study forestry theory in Germany
and England. The time spent in Europe formed the foundation of his beliefs on conservation and
through him those of the conservationist movement.
Pinchot left Europe with some convictions about forestry. He had learned... that trees are a crop...
Pinchot brought the gospel that forestry was the art of using a forest without destroying it... [He]
preached that through the use of proper methods a forest could be both harvested and preserved.
(McGeary 23) This conviction reveals the underlying theory to all of the conservation movement, that
nature should be viewed in the confines of its economic value. For example, Pinchot s policy did not
allow for the continuation of old growth forests, but demanded that they be cut down and let new trees
to grow back in their place. He clashed repeatedly during his career with conservationists who were
basically devoted to preserving the trees. (McGeary 87)
To understand where the motivation and passion to protect the environment was developed, one looks
to the rapid deforestation of East Coast old growth forests at the turn of the century. As Gifford
Pinchot expressed it, The American Colossus was fiercely at work turning natural resources into
money. A

The Holocaust Genocide
The Holocaust is one of the most gruesome and inhumane events to ever happen in the history of the
world. The Holocaust took place during World War II. WWII was one event that was categorized as
strictly good vs evil. At the beginning of the war America wanted to remain neutral because we had
just come out of WWI and were working on rebuilding our economy. The United States was
successful in remaining neutral until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor early on the morning of December 7.
1941. The United States officially entered the WWII when we declared war on Japan on December 8,
1941. Just a few short days later on December 11, 1941, Hitler declared war on the united states, as
Germany was an ally to Japan (Guerra.) On august 15.1945 Japan surrender to the U.S (Guerra) WWII
had seven major countries involved including Germany, Italy, and Japan as the axis powers and the
united states, Great Britain, France, and the Soviet Union as the allies. (Guerra) Hitler and his Nazis
were a race of Aryan people who believed their people were far more superior to any other race in the
world. In their minds they believed they were more worthy of respect than even God himself. Hitler
regarded the German s as the Aryan master race (Nazi Racism) Hitler wanted a pure race so they
could one day eventually conquer the world by themselves. Hitler s perfect Aryan race was

Emotional Intelligence In Nursing
The literature review expands introducing, and critically analysing, the publications which incorporate
emotional intelligence in the study of attainment and attrition in nursing, and in other health related
professions. The review covers empirical studies which examined selection, retention, clinical
performance, working in teams, stress, burnout and the quality of patient care. There were no
examples found that reported on emotional intelligence and its relationship to attainment and attrition
in student nurses and midwives. The closest examples involved: the relationship between emotional
intelligence and practice attainment in qualified nurses; using emotional intelligence criteria to score
medical students for selection at

There are numerous examples of poor clinical practice in nursing (Halldorsdottir, 1997; Reynolds,
1998) and while there may be many factors responsible for this, consensus is growing that there may
be a correlation between EI and clinical practice performance in nursing (Cadman and Brewer, 2001).
Given the recent developments in producing measures of EI, (Bar On, 1997; Schutte et al, 1998, 2007;
Mayer et al, 2002; Petrides et al, 2003) it may now be possible to establish whether EI could be
measured in student nurse applicants and the score used as a predictor of success at the interview
stage, along with the ability to achieve outcomes later in practice. There are certainly sufficient
examples of robust measurement tools, that would enable the debate to move beyond speculation over
the introduction of emotional intelligence in nursing,

Using Data From The British Election Study
This paper is a research project that uses data from the British Election Study. The study has responses
from 2987 participants selected at random for the survey. The survey asks a variety of questions
regarding the elections and the perceptions of the participants. The questions include responses for
voting preferences, issues faced in the elections of 2015, inclination of the voter towards left or right,
taxation and spending views, views of respondents regarding immigration, economic status and so
forth. The response scales used are close ended with multiple choice and Likert scale questions on a
scale of one to ten being used. Due to the large amount of data and the variety of information asked,
this report will restrict itself to testing a few hypotheses, which will be targeted towards specific areas,
and which can be proved or disproved through use of cross tabulation analysis based on data obtained
in the survey. It has been noted that the economic status of a voter tends to impact the political
leanings of the voter. It was noted in a survey carried out in the USA that wage levels were an
indicator of voter preferences where people who earned less than $70,000 noted to lean towards the
liberal, Democratic Party, while those who earned more tended to be more conservative in leaning
towards the Republican Party (Thompson, 2012). Another study conducted in Malaysia concluded that
voters consider the economic conditions of the country before voting for a government, and

Personal Narrative Of Pain Is A Funny Thing
Elle McGinnity 4 November 2014
Mrs. Siragusa Period 2AC
Paper #2: Personal Narrative
Pain is a funny thing. Sometimes it strikes suddenly, a lightning strike in a quiet blue sky. It tears
through you and for a few seconds you cannot breathe; cannot think. This was different. This pain was
patient and slow. It crept up on me; starting as just an annoying dull ache in my hip. Gradually
growing confidence, steadily growing until the roar of the pain became so loud, I could not focus on
anything else. But I was stubborn. I told myself I could push through it; that I had to push through it.
Nationals were only two weeks away. I could not afford to lose any time...
I was torn. On one hand, I had hope that maybe if I saw a doctor, they could fix it and ease the pain.
On the other, I was scared. The risk that they would pull me out of dance and not let me compete at
nationals seemed to outweigh the benefits. It was my dance teacher that finally convinced me to see a
doctor.
I remember feeling dazed walking into the hospital; everything was a blur yet seemed to happen in
slow motion. And the smell. It was overwhelming and stale. I was detached, just going through the
motions: walk here, get wristband, sit, stay, wait. The waiting was the worst part. My mind began to
spin. Worrying, and waiting, and contemplating, and waiting and waiting... My fingers began to
restlessly tap, dancing out the rhythm of my steps over and over. I fell into a daze, nothing processing

Rod Serling s Judgment Night
The Twilight Zone TV show aired on American television from 1959 to 1964. Over 150 episodes
broadcast to millions of Americans, satisfying the thirst for entertainment and curiosity of the
unknown. The show delved into a wide array of topics, which included the supernatural, science
fiction, and fantasy. The show s creator, narrator, and lead screenwriter Rod Serling got a kick start for
The Twilight Zone from his story called The Time Element , which he had submitted to CBS, where it
was produced as part of the Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse anthology. It received a great deal of
complementary mail and prompted CBS to commission a Twilight Zone pilot for a possible series.
Therefore, Rod Serling wrote another story, which would be the pilot ... Show more content on

In the episode, the setting is on a freighter called the Queen of Glasgow in the Atlantic during World
War II. A passenger named Carl Lanser finds himself on this ship, and is unable to remember how he
got there, why he is there, or what he does, yet he remembers his name and where he came from. The
one important thing about him is that he seems to have heard and seen all this before. In the written
version of this episode, Rod Serling describes this as though Lanser, could recall seeing them [people
s faces] so many times before (page 66). The story evolves even more when Lanser says something
will happen at 1:15. Lanser stares intently at the clock until 1:15, and suddenly the engines stop
running. All of a sudden, a U boat shell hits the ship. Lanser runs outside with some binoculars and
looks at the U Boat. He nearly faints at the sight of himself standing on the deck of the U boat. In the
end, the U boat sinks the ship, and the passengers drown. At the end of the episode, the Carl Lanser on
the U boat discusses the event with one of his men. The man tells Lanser that they should have warned
the passengers before shooting ship, which Lanser ridicules him for it. He says that it is wrong and
that they will ultimately suffer their own personal hell for it. The man adds that they might have to
relive the experience that the passengers of the ship had as punishment. At this point, the viewer is
finally able to realize what happened. The moral of the episode is that no one is safe from judgment,
no matter what the circumstance may

Silent Auction Research Paper
This requires a lot of work, but the funds raised can be huge. However, be sure that you are willing to
put the work in to make sure the event goes smoothly. Also, be sure that your group can get enough
donations of items to be auctioned off, and people to bid on them in order to justify a silent auction.
Silent auctions often work better if they are done consistently. So, this will work better if this is a
mission trip that will be occurring every year. That is because more people know about the silent
auction, and are willing to donate to it, or attend it. These events often grow each year. Silent auctions

Nerolin Lab Report
Nerolin was prepared with a mixture of methanol, 2 naphthol, potassium hydroxide (KOH), and
iodoethane using a reflux apparatus. A reaction mixture was obtained, and allowed to freeze. Nerolin
crystals were obtained by way of gravity filtration and vacuum filtration in a successive manner. The
nerolin crystals were further analyzed to show purity of the experimental product by examining the
shape and size of the crystals, along with the melting point of the crystals. From this experiment,
6.44% of nerolin crystals were recovered, with a melting point measured as 33 35C. The preparation
of nerolin was performed due to its role in maintaining long lasting fragrance release properties in
fabrics.

The decanted liquid had to be placed back into the freezer in order to refreeze the crystals to allow
them to be decanted off. This could have caused a portion of the product to have been lost, thus
affecting the percent yield and purity of the final product. Furthermore, there was an oiled substance
thought to be a contaminant in the product after the addition of hot methanol and hot water to the
Erlenmeyer flask. This contaminant was left in the Erlenmeyer flask to see whether or not it had an
effect on the final product, but once the activated charcoal was added into the Erlenmeyer flask, the
contaminant seemed to have latched onto the charcoal. Since it latched onto the charcoal and the
charcoal was filtered out by way of gravity filtration, the contaminant is thought to have been filtered
out as well. While the contaminant seemed to have been filtered out by the gravity filtration, there
could be a small portion of the contaminant that remained in the filtered out product, thus affecting the
percent yield and purity of the final product as

Becoming Mental Health Counselor
My Dream of Becoming a Mental Health Counselor Becoming a counselor has been a dream for me
for some time now. Being able to assist women, men, and children seems like the best job for me due
to the empathy that I share with many individuals. A mental health counselor is not just a job, it is an
opportunity to help people and give back to the community that we share. As a military spouse who
has dealt with multiple deployments and meeting other wives has given me an opportunity to help
them get through tough times by hearing people out and providing advice to keep going. Many of the
women I have met have children which needed attention and guidance to deal with the hardship that
one encounters. During our stay at Fort Lewis, Washington ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It would be easy to apply my skills to my coursework at University of the Southwest. I feel that I am

hours to complete certain coursework, however it enabled me to apply my critical thinking skills and
successfully complete all my assignments. My dedication and focus allowed me to continue my
education and earn my degree. Multi tasking is another strength in which I could take multiple classes
at one time, and could complete coursework for two classes at one time. Taking online classes may
seem difficult for some people because of the distant learning and emphasis that needs to be set
forward. In my opinion, distant learning was not only easy, but also allowed me to finish my
assignments on my own time and still make the deadline. One of my weaknesses was the math portion
simply because I had been out of school for so long. Overcoming this weakness took much dedication
and studying. During this period, I dedicated long hours to ensure that I learned the material and was

Satire in Catch-22 by Joseph Heller Essay
Catch 22, by Joseph Heller, is a fictitious novel that depicts life on an American bomber squadron on
Pianosa, an island off the coast of Italy, during the closing years of World War II. A bombardier by the
name of Yossarian, the main character in the story, is joined by many others to create a comic drama
unlike any other. But aside from the entertainment, Heller uses Catch 22 to satirize many aspects of
everyday life that consist of hypocrisy, corruption, and insanity. From the laziness of policeman to the
fake happiness brought about by money, the novel is painted with a great number of points targeted
against the faults of modern society. However, along with these smaller targets, a majority of the

When Yossarian rebels against this system of injustice commanding over him, the narrator states that
Milo is ashamed of Yossarian who is quot;jeopardizing his traditional rights of freedom and
independence by daring to exercise them quot; (415). According to Milo, it is not fair to fight for your
own justice as an American in the military. This statement is foolish and is exactly what Heller
satirizes in the book; the fact that during war, the freedom and individuality of lower ranking officers
are stripped away from them to satisfy the needs of higher ranking officers. Yossarian later discovers
through Major Danby that Colonel Cathcart and Colonel Korn quot;can prepare as many official
reports as they want and choose whichever ones they need on any given occasion, quot; which is
another example of the bureaucracy allowing men to cease liberties in order to incite more power for
personal use (452). When continuing his discussion with Major Danby at the end of the book,
Yossarian uses an analogy to indicate to the Major just what it is like being controlled by higher
powers. After Danby wishes he was a cucumber or some kind of vegetable so he did not have to make
important decisions, Yossarian states that if he was a quot;good one quot; then quot;they d cut you off
in your prime and slice you up for a salad quot; and if he was a quot;poor

The Important Role of Federalism in the Development and...
Federalism plays an integral part in the growth and development of the United States of America and
is a key factor in determining the basis of power in this country. Clearly, the term federalism can be
understood in many different ways pertaining to each person s view, but it can be more broadly
defined in terms of the separation between the state and federal government. Thomas E. Patterson
defines federalism as, the division of sovereignty, or ultimate governing authority, between a national
government and regional (that is, state) governments. Each directly governs the people and derives its
authority from them (Patterson 74). He then goes on to give a more basic definition with, American
Federalism is basically a system of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These powers provide the federal and the state governments with their role in the function of
federalism. Further, Article VI gives the dominant rule of law to the federal government over the states
rights in case there is ever a misunderstanding. The Framers of the Constitution were worried that
providing such a narrow definition would result in the government being unable to adapt to change
(Patterson 78). Thus, the implied powers are stated in the Constitution under Article I, Section 8,
Clause 18 better known as the Necessary and Proper Clause, and gives Congress the power to make
all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers. This
clause allows Congress to adapt to change and implement laws which are necessary given the time.
The remaining powers are then given to the states by the Tenth Amendment. Federalism outlined in
the Constitution allows for a separation of powers and provides specifics for each level, which
ultimately allows for a more balanced form of government. It has been more than 200 years since the
Constitution was formulated and federalism has been through many different interpretations
throughout the years. Dual federalism was outlined by a strict line between federal and state with no
room for misinterpretation. You either had the power, or you

Summary Of Junot Diaz s Drown
LANGUAGE AND RACE IN JUNOT DIAZ S LITERATURE
Between 1960 and 1986, more than 400,000 Dominicans migrated legally from the Dominican
Republic to the United States, especially to New York and New Jersey, and many thousands more,
illegally. By the 90 ́s they had become the second largest Hispanic group in the Northeast this has
generated important consequences for the Dominicans migrating to the US, for their families in the
Dominican Republic and for Americans in general. Today, with the Hispanic community being the
largest minority in the U.S. and with projections of growth at a fast rate, the Dominican diaspora is
another example of the integration of a Hispanic subgroup into American life and society. I would like
to focus on a specific aspect of this event, namely the self consciousness of racial identity in this
community of migrants. To do so, I will use the literature of Junot Diaz. ...Diaz s Drown is composed
of ten short stories that follow the pattern of a quasi chronological narration of the story of a
Dominican family. Each story is a chapter presenting different moments in the lives of the characters
and the narrator, Yunior, who grows over the course of the novel. The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar
Wao is similarly a Dominican family story centered on a young but disoriented Dominican American
man in search of love in a hostile world. My intention with this examination of the two sociological

  • 2. Spiritual Journey In Siddhartha Personal experience can greatly shape an author s work. This theory came to play in several of Hermann Hesse s novels. More importantly, through one of his most popular novels, known as, Siddhartha, Hesse takes the reader on a spiritual journey. Hermann Hesse wrote the novel Siddhartha in 1922 after becoming fascinated with the Indian culture, as stated by an excerpt from Encyclopedia of World Literature in the 20th Century. The excerpt also stated that Hesse became fascinated with the Indian culture after his religious family performed a missionary there. In 1911, Hesse took a journey to India, which sparked his fascination even more, likewise expressed in the excerpt. • 3. Under The Dome Stephen King Stephen King s Under the Dome presents a unique story that is both thought provoking and entertaining. The introduction of the dome creates compelling social dynamics that would otherwise not have been possible. In many ways the dome is a microcosm of earth complete with its own conflicts, environmental disasters, and just about every social issue imaginable. The alien entities were equally thought provoking. From their perspective humans were nothing more than ants to be toyed with. They had no empathy or compassion, only pity. Julia Shumway s interaction with the entity causes an introspective evaluation on how we treat other people. James Big Jim Rennie steals the show as the novel s villain. Rennie is a bit of a paradox. Ken can do this by using I language instead of you language (Wood, 2012). By doing so, Ken would take responsibility for his thoughts and feelings, therefore making the conversation more productive (Wood, 2012). Another way Ken can make this conversation more productive is by expressing his emotions. First, Ken must first learn to identify how he is feeling to properly express his emotions (Wood, 2012). Essay Nick s Self-Discovery in Hemingway s In Our Time Nick s Self Discovery in Hemingway s In Our Time The focus of this essay will be to analyze Nick s transition as he moves from mental isolation, to physical isolation, to maturation and self discovery. If Nick s life were to be chronologically ordered and analyzed, the stories Indian Camp and The Doctor and the Doctor s Wife would definitely come first. It is these two stories that give us the first insight to what kind of character that Nick really is as a child. Because Nick is only mentioned briefly in the latter story, I think that Indian Camp is more significant in analyzing the portrayal of his character. I suppose the one passage that truly gives insight about the innocence (and ignorance) of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The significance of the quote, It isn t fun any more. Not any of it (34) is the absence of emotion and meaning in his life. Obviously, the way in which Nick broke up with Marjorie is that he was searching for something in life that was not yet to be found; not in her or, as it appears, anyone. It is this hollowness that I think directly relates back to his relationship with his father and is the same lack of emotion that lead Nick to go to war and to continue wandering by himself after he returns. It is this same emotion (or lack there of) that is apparent in The Three Day Blow, as well. Though he expresses some remorse over his break up with Marge ( All he knew is that he had once had Marjorie and that he had lost her (47)), I truly believe that there was something else that deeply troubled Nick. It is in these two stories, however, that the reader can begin to infer that Nick, though once a content child who would never die, is now searching for something in life, whether it be adequacy or meaning. Thus, these stories are important because they show his maturation and make a preface for the events that follow. The Battler seems to be the culmination of Nick s psuedo depression that is sensed in the two stories before it. The reader can infer that, whether to leave his parents, to seek meaning in life, or just for adventure, Nick has taken on the life of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Death Of The Rainbow By Ntozake Shange Life can be full of hardship, deceit, and catastrophe. In life, everyone struggles to stay afloat the tsunami of troubles flooding them. However, some people struggle more than others, and some people face much tougher encumbrances. In For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When The Rainbow Is Enuf, Ntozake Shange shows each woman struggling to overcome a troubling past that leads them to question the value of their own lives. In order to free themselves from the issues suffocating them, they must eliminate the suffering part of themselves and unite to be reborn as stronger women. This is expressed through the predominant idea of suicide throughout the piece. Suicide can be defined as the act of killing oneself with intention. As drastic as this may sound, it can be perceived that Shange s play was not focusing on suicide in a literal term. Instead, she was focusing primarily on suicide in a figurative way. Suicide was used as a metaphor to illustrate the death of the traumatized parts of the women. The women in Shange s play lived their lives plagued with tragedy and abuse. In a sense, each woman had an experience that could truly justify committing suicide; however, the women beat the odds, and in the end they unite to prevail over the burdens affecting them. Most of the women in Shange s play were victims of heinous crimes. For example, the lady in red states: Women relinquish all personal rights/in the presence of a man/who apparently cd be considered a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This seemed to be a very interesting topic to cover to know where are they now and how they feel about the war. Located a woman in her late 40s from Vietnam, her family has migrated to American when she was just 5 years old. This topic seemed to be very sensitive for her to talk about, I brought to much pain to talk about her parents that didn t survive the Vietnam war. • 12. Mr. Smith And His Burglary Charges I still mostly agree with my initial post on Mr. Smith and his burglary charges, but I challenge my idea that justice is not served because he only pleaded guilty to two counts. Since the evidence is circumstantial and the defendant has no prior record, the plea deal does serve justice. Just because you believe a person to be guilty of X amount of crimes does not mean he is guilty. If the evidence is shaky and the defendant is clean, justice is determined through what is presented. I also noted in the initial post that the defendant could have burglarized more homes, but not caught. Couldn t Jimmy be used to gain more information from the mob bosses? For example, offer him a less severe sentence, but make him wear a wire or some sort. He might have information to give, but make it earn it. Murdering someone should not give you a free pass. Feedback to the Mr. Smith case: I still come back to the idea of the circumstantial evince and that the prosecution should try the case in court or offer him a better plea for the victims. Yes, resources are better used if the case is pleaded out, but I still believe you cannot over look how many homes he burglarized. I believe a pattern has evolved and he could be more dangerous than perceived. I would agree that if Mr. Smith had something to offer, the plea deal for guilty on two counts could be fine. It all comes down to how many homes he burglarized. Twenty is a lot and shows more than I believe is being taken into account. To Jimmy and the mob bosses, I agree with the statement that the government is at fault for not finding evidence to convict higher up mob bosses and giving Jimmy immunity. • 13. George Orwell Politics And The English Language Language is the network of communication in thought, spoken words, and written verse. It is structural and formed through the development and adaptions of human beings. As art itself, language takes the configuration of the world and conveys itself in a diverse manner. Although, some persons argue that language shall be strictly followed and contain no modifications for that ruins the sole purpose of language being our system of disclosure. George Orwell, in his text Politics and the English Language , delivers a message of traditional English being taken further from its roots and changed into something harsh and inadequate. On the other hand, there s the more lenient and open author, James Baldwin, who in his text, If Black English isn t a Language, Then Tell me, What is? , delivers a cry of despair for the language that has grown as its own from his culture and background. Thus, both Orwell and Baldwin have similar and different outlooks on the perception of language and how it should be presented in thought and literature. To begin with their differences, Orwell expounds on the faults of English language when written constructively. In his text, Politics and the English Language , he pleads with his concerns about modern writers and their writing structure through a haughty and conservative perspective. The SAC only takes approximately 5 to 7 minutes to administer (Straus). The problem that athletic trainers face with testing an athlete after a head impact is dealing with the coach. When an athlete is required to perform a 5 to 7 minute test in the middle of a game when the coach needs them, can cause the coach to get very aggravated and be right in the ear of the trainer. The creation of the documentation and source code usually takes a significant amount of time. This time consuming process is usually circumvented when using an Agile approach (Arken, 2008). The process, however time consuming, is also extremely important. By clearly defining the goals and objectives of the project, stakeholders like the customers and developers are on the same page at the start. Customer oriented Development To this point, one stark contrast between the Waterfall and Agile methods of software development is the degree to which they involve the customer. In this sense it is easier to think of the Waterfall model as being more predictive and the Agile model as being more adaptive . There are milestones in either case, but the changes that are a result of customer input drive the flow of development in an Agile system (Arken 2008). One can see how the adaptive vs. predictive differences can become more of a problem where finances are concerned. Project Management Looking at each methodology from a different perspective, the management perspective, unveils additional benefits and setbacks. The rigidity of the Waterfall method for software development can be cumbersome when dealing with changing expectations, but it makes it easier for management to manage the project s progression. Having clear goals makes it easy for managers to track the development process. It is more difficult to track a project where requirements are constantly evolving. The questions include responses for voting preferences, issues faced in the elections of 2015, inclination of the voter towards left or right, taxation and spending views, views of respondents regarding immigration, economic status and so forth. Yossarian later discovers through Major Danby that Colonel Cathcart and Colonel Korn quot;can prepare as many official reports as they want and choose whichever ones they need on any given occasion, quot; which is another example of the bureaucracy allowing men to cease liberties in order to incite more power for personal use (452). After Danby wishes he was a cucumber or some kind of vegetable so he did not have to make important decisions, Yossarian states that if he was a quot;good one quot; then quot;they d cut you off in your prime and slice you up for a salad quot; and if he was a quot;poor ... • 30. The Important Role of Federalism in the Development and... Federalism plays an integral part in the growth and development of the United States of America and is a key factor in determining the basis of power in this country. Clearly, the term federalism can be understood in many different ways pertaining to each person s view, but it can be more broadly defined in terms of the separation between the state and federal government. Thomas E. Patterson defines federalism as, the division of sovereignty, or ultimate governing authority, between a national government and regional (that is, state) governments. Each directly governs the people and derives its authority from them (Patterson 74). He then goes on to give a more basic definition with, American Federalism is basically a system of ... Further, Article VI gives the dominant rule of law to the federal government over the states rights in case there is ever a misunderstanding. The Framers of the Constitution were worried that providing such a narrow definition would result in the government being unable to adapt to change (Patterson 78). Thus, the implied powers are stated in the Constitution under Article I, Section 8, Clause 18 better known as the Necessary and Proper Clause, and gives Congress the power to make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers. This clause allows Congress to adapt to change and implement laws which are necessary given the time. The remaining powers are then given to the states by the Tenth Amendment. Federalism outlined in the Constitution allows for a separation of powers and provides specifics for each level, which ultimately allows for a more balanced form of government. It has been more than 200 years since the Constitution was formulated and federalism has been through many different interpretations throughout the years. Dual federalism was outlined by a strict line between federal and state with no room for misinterpretation. You either had the power, or you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of Junot Diaz s Drown LANGUAGE AND RACE IN JUNOT DIAZ S LITERATURE Between 1960 and 1986, more than 400,000 Dominicans migrated legally from the Dominican Republic to the United States, especially to New York and New Jersey, and many thousands more, illegally. By the 90 ́s they had become the second largest Hispanic group in the Northeast this has generated important consequences for the Dominicans migrating to the US, for their families in the Dominican Republic and for Americans in general. Today, with the Hispanic community being the largest minority in the U.S. and with projections of growth at a fast rate, the Dominican diaspora is another example of the integration of a Hispanic subgroup into American life and society. I would like to focus on a specific aspect of this event, namely the self consciousness of racial identity in this community of migrants. To do so, I will use the literature of Junot Diaz. ...Diaz s Drown is composed of ten short stories that follow the pattern of a quasi chronological narration of the story of a Dominican family. Each story is a chapter presenting different moments in the lives of the characters and the narrator, Yunior, who grows over the course of the novel. The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao is similarly a Dominican family story centered on a young but disoriented Dominican American man in search of love in a hostile world. My intention with this examination of the two sociological and statistical studies about the Dominican community in New ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
