Medical Futility Research Paper
In our lifetime, as we experience the loss of our loved ones, death is often perceived to be frightening
and may provoke numerous feelings such as confusion and anger. The reality of the inevitability and
permanence of death is an uncomfortable subject, but it is one that must be ultimately faced. When
dealing with an extremely ill relative or a loved one that has been in a life threatening accident,
medical futility becomes a looming topic. According to the article Defining Medical Futility and
Improving Medical Care in the Journal of Bioethical Inquiry, medical futility is defined as the
unacceptable likelihood of achieving an effect that the patient has the capacity to appreciate as a
benefit (Schneiderman, 2011, p.123). Essentially,

Health Education And Planning Assessments
Within certain themes within Health Education, planning assessments can be used to show
understanding e.g. weekly food plans within the Physical Health content. Overall Health Education
would be an excellent addition to work alongside PSHE and Citizenship, the making of a statutory
health education would highly benefit its pupils in their personal development.
The second subject to be added into the curriculum would be Multi Media studies. This subject will
reflect today s society and teach skills that are needed due the growth of technology (Wise 2000;
Bazalgette 2010). Multi Media studies would involve aspects of other subjects such as I.C.T, music,
business and technology, thus allowing for cross curricular work to take place (Howard, ... Show more

This is because as discussed in the National Association for the Education of Young Children (2016),
young children also want to use technology that older individuals use (National Association for the
Education of Young Children, 2016). By providing Multi Media as a subject it means younger
children can seek and develop their own skills and creativity through the basic use of technology e.g.
using basic computer programs/ learning how to take a photo on a camera. Furthermore while there is
a current GCSE called Media Studies (AQA, 2016), it can only be studied within year 9 onwards
meaning pupils might not have learnt any skills within the previous years regarding media which
could be a disadvantage for some. The GCSE is also time constricted as it has to be taught within just
two years.
Similar to that of the current I.C.T subject within the national curriculum, Multi Media studies will
allow for creativity (Department for Education, 2013), the amount of areas of study mean that pupils
can thrive and creative within the subject. The National Advisory Committee on Creative and Cultural
Education (1998:3) report states that there is stronger emphasis on creative and cultural education .
The Multi Media Studies subject would allow for creativity to be shown through numerous ways such
as through graphic design, game design, filming, editing as well as broadcasting and photography.
As a result of the content that will be within the program of study, pupils will

Capitalism In Norris s Mcteague, By Frank Norris
In the reading, McTeague, by Frank Norris, a dentist named McTeague watches the day to day lives of
San Francisco s various laborers through the bay window of his Dental Parlor. McTeague noticed that
the street was always occupied by people with different kinds of people at specific times of the day.
Since San Francisco is described as full of energy because of the people in it, it is inferred that the city
has a personal, tied connection to its inhabitants. Frank Norris portrayed the city as full of liveliness
and excitement to showcase how San Francisco itself is its own main character with human like
characteristics, ultimately suggesting that capitalism makes a city thrive. First and foremost, the
chronological timed schedule in which the people of San Francisco rely on is shown as a continuous
cycle that keeps the city up and running. The narrator states, A little later, following in the path of the
day laborers, came the clerks and shopgirls [...] always in a hurry, glancing apprehensively at the
powerhouse clock. (155) Not only does this quote show that the city is a busy area where countless
things are happening, but also shows how it runs on a clock that lets people know where they have to
be and when. The powerhouse clock is a symbol of how San Francisco has a biological clock similar
to what humans have. Norris writes that the street wakes breakfasts and sleeps in order to show that
the street is comparable to a living organism. Through the usage and

History of Organization and Name
Originally named the Boston Braves, the Washington Redskins remain known for their legacy and
team history. Under the ownership of George Person Marshall, Vincent Bendix, Jay O Brien and
Dorland Dolye, the Boston Braves were born as part of the NFL franchise in 1932. Shortly after in

The Redskins name symbolizes the organizations past, present and future. Coaches, players, and
dedicated fans are concerned that the franchise will lose the support of the community and funding if a
campaign to change the Redskins name is not implemented.
Marketing Plan
With the recent uproar and political involvement with the name controversy, as an organization we
have developed a marketing campaign to involve our elite fan base with changing the Washington
Redskins name, to one that is well accepted within the community. Since the organization is enriched
with history and traditions, we developed a strategic campaign that stays true to the Redskins values.
Our plan is to keep the Redskins brand as consistent as possible, while assuring the uniformity of the
brand by keeping the current logo and the same color scheme. We will ensure that the experience fans
get when they come to watch the team play is the same or better than before.
Objectives
To guarantee a successful transition throughout the campaign we have brainstormed strategic
objectives to create a smooth process to sustain our influential fan base.
Launch promotion the day after Super Bowl XLVIII on February 3, 2014 We chose this date due to the
popularity of the NFL at this time. The Super Bowl is a well marketed event that causes buzz post the

The Removal of Prayer from Public Schools Essay
The removal of prayer from public schools is a very controversial and misunderstood debate. This
paper will address the history of the debate, common myths and misunderstandings, and the current
trends.
History of the Debate:
Public schools originated in 1647 in the Massachusetts Bay Colony and soon spread across New
England. They began with an elementary school for every fifty families and a Latin school for every
one hundred families. Their mission was to ensure that Puritan children learn to read the Bible and
receive basic information about their Calvinist religion. 1 By 1840, conflict was at a climax in New
York City. The public schools had taken on a common school education that included a ... Show more

Training in the Schools.
In 1962, the United States Supreme Court was called upon to interpret the Establishment Clause of the
First Amendment to the United States Constitution citing the Regent s Prayer in violation (Engel v.
Vitale). In a 6 to 1 decision (with 2 remaining neutral) the Supreme Court decided that the Regent s
Prayer, which was to be said aloud by each student in the presence of a teacher at the beginning of
each school day, was unconstitutional: Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee,
and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers, and our Country. Mr. Justice Black
delivered the opinion of the court:
The State s use of the Regents prayer in its public school system breaches the constitutional wall of
separation between Church and State...The Establishment Clause does not depend upon any showing
of direct governmental compulsion and is violated by the enactment of laws which establish an official
religion whether those laws operate directly to coerce non observing individuals or not...When the

REVITAHIP Study Essay
Introduction and aim
Hip fractures result in a number of health related problems and even mortality among older people.
Hypovitaminosis D is one of the prevalent issues related to hip fracture. The REVITAHIP study is a
trial with multisite and randomized control investigating the effect of an initial loading dose vitamin D
on recovery consequences after hip fracture surgery. The aim of the paper is to compare the
REVITAHIP study with other studies using vitamin D to improve the rehabilitation after hip fracture
surgery based on the assessed baseline characteristics of participants, with a focus on hypovitaminosis
D.
Methods
Demographic and clinical data of the involved participants were collected before the trial. The trial
randomly allocated the participants who were aged over 65, from public hospitals in Australia and had
a surgery demand within 7 days after hip fracture into two groups. The two groups were provided by a
loading dose of vitamin D3 or placebo, followed by receiving oral calcium vitamin D combination
tablets and regular recovery pathway. The hypothesis about the relations between baseline vitamin D
level and other variables was examined by Person chi square test, ANOVA and regression analysis.

Marriages are based on love, they talk about love for one another as Jesus said I give you a new

The Conflict Between The United States And The Middle East...
The conflict between the United States and the Middle East is of great concern in the world today
because of the heightened tensions in Syria, which is being terrorized by the radical Islamic group
called ISIS. ISIS is not only creating conflict in the Middle East, they are also a homeland security
threat to the United States because of the fear of terrorist attacks. Scholars and Theorists like Samuel
Huntington have addressed the question of why states are experiencing heightened tension and have
concluded that conflict in states or between states is the result of ethnic differences, namely religion
and culture. Samuel Huntington s essay, Clash of Civilizations, is extremely interesting because I
always questioned what would have happened if every race were to stay in the territories they
inhabited, like North America where Aboriginals settled, and the Middle East where the Arabians
settled. Samuel Huntington s essay invites you to ponder the idea that each civilization has different
cultural and religious differences and that these differences clash and result in conflict between
civilizations. Although Samuel Huntington s essay is intriguing, there are misconceptions about his
ideas regarding Muslims. This essay will analyze the historical misconceptions that Samuel
Huntington portrays, which are his view of Muslims and Christians always being at war, his lack of
knowledge of the Crusades, and his idea of the West is the best . The first problem with Samuel

Oral History In Ella Cara Deloria s Waterlily
Only so that my people may live! Ella Cara Deloria dedicated much of her life to helping outsiders
understand Native American life. Deloria was born on a Yankton Sioux Reservation on 31 January
1889. Although her father was an Episcopal missionary, Deloria still grew up learning the traditions of
the Sioux and speaking the Dakota language. Upon graduating college, she served as a health
education secretary for Indian schools and reservations. But her true passion in life was studying and
informing others on Dakota culture and life. When given the opportunity, Deloria dropped everything
to become a research assistant. This first step enabled her to ultimately become an ethnologist and
write the historical fiction novel Waterlily. Waterlily details the life of two fictional nineteenth century
Sioux characters: Blue Bird and Waterlily. Deloria s experiences enabled her to contribute to the study
of nineteenth century Dakota life through the historical novel Waterlily; especially, the use of oral
history in the creation of the novel, gender roles, and kinship dynamics. Much of the experiences
portrayed within Waterlily come from interviews Deloria conducted, thus it is important to examine
the role of oral history in the creation of Waterlily. One of the main criticisms of oral history is the
tendency to assume, that because someone says something it automatically contains a truth. Deloria
specifically addressed this issue when she interviewed her subjects. First, she

Essay On Footwork In Volleyball
On the whole; volleyball can be very difficult, one thing that makes it so hard is passing. There are
two ways to pass; the fore arm pass also known as the bump, and the set. A bump is when the player
sticks out their arms with their forearms to the sky. This creates a flat surface for the ball to land on
and bump up. As the ball is approaching the player they get lower to the ground like a squat and raise
themselves as they contact the ball. The set is when the player raises their hands and creates a
diamond with their index fingers and thumbs. The rest of the fingers are spread out to cover more
space on the ball. It is very light with little to no rotation, the set is hard to do but when it is perfected;
it helps the game greatly. Foot work and the position of the ball helps a lot too. Footwork helps in
getting the ball up in the air for the setter to do their job and keep the game going. Footwork is a
necessary part in volleyball. Ball placement is also very important ... Show more content on

If the player is not at the right place at the right time, the ball is going to hit the court. A very
important element for positioning is footwork. Without proper footwork, the game known as
volleyball would be very difficult. The player needs to have quick feet and know where to step and
when. Speed is also very important; volleyball has a lot of movement to it. Moving up to the net and
then moving back to hit, then moving up and back repeat. To do it right, speed is very important to
have. Awareness on the court is necessary, the players need to know who is where and where is the
ball. Without awareness the player runs the risk of getting hit by the ball and losing the game for the
team. Finally, the last aspect to positioning is quick thinking. The player needs to know where to hit
the ball and which way to pass very fast. Also setters need to know who to set in order to get a good
hit for the

The Character of Oedipus in Oedipus and The Infernal Machine
The Character of Oedipus in Oedipus and The Infernal Machine
The stories of Oedipus, as told through Seneca s Oedipus and Cocteau s The Infernal Machine,
contain both similarites and differences. Both authors portray the character of Oedipus as being
obstinate, ignorant, and inquisitive. Yet Seneca and Cocteau differ on their interpretation of the
motives that propelled these characteristics of Oedipus. Seneca portrays Oedipus as a mature man
who, in seeing the troubles of the plague that has descended upon Thebes, feels true sorrow for his
dying people and wishes to cure his moribund city. On the other hand, Cocteau s Oedipus is a
pretentious, immature, and overweening young adult who seeks to indulge himself in the fast and ...

that I killed the King so that I could marry her. Cocteau, Infernal Machine, p.90
In this quote, so too is Cocteau s Oedipus seemingly blind to the virtually obvious, choosing instead to
believe Tiresias s wishes in admitting Oedipus s horrible deeds, were only to seize control of the
throne. Jocasta and Creon also try to warn Oedipus of the impending truth, but it is to no avail, as
Oedipus will not heed their pleas.
Contrary to one another, are Seneca and Cocteau s views on Oedipus s reasons for being so
pertinacious in his search for the killer of Laius. Seneca s Oedipus, a stately, old, and sage man, is
committed to his role as king. But under the present circumstances, in which a horrible plague ravages
Thebes, Oedipus with all his human powers a nd abilities, is not able to provide assistance. Only can
he pray that somehow it might all go away.
And yet I posed my riddle. Next, a shriek and her impatient claws ripped at the rock and not my
entrails. But that tangled mess, her dark enigma, I solved nonetheless. Sen. Oed. 10
In his encounter with the Sphinx, Oedipus bravely faces the beast and answers the riddle that had been
indecipherable for so many other men. He arrived in Thebes a true hero, was welcome as their king,
and subsequently commenced his benevolent rule.
Cocteau s Oedipus, on the other hand, is a much more immature and haughty character. And while
Seneca s Oedipus s persistence stemmed from his wish to save the citizens of his

To His Coy Mistress
To His Coy Mistress Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress is a sieze the moment kind of poem in
which an anonomyous young man tries to woo the hand of his mistress. This kind of poem gives the
reader the idea that time is not only precious, but scarce. The speaker uses many smooth tatics to

Finally there is beauty. The speaker seduces her by validating her conciet. He describes ever way she

concusion. It is concluded that the speakers overall reasoning is illogical. Although, Marvell s poem is
described as sophisticated, evocative, and emotionally moving, ( Andrew Marvell 280) Recent
criticisms say that a female reader could read this poem and look at it different than a male. The
reader, as a female, may percieve it as crude and vulgur. It could be seens as smutt. Where as a male
would see it as a smooth, masculine approach to woo a woman. In the beginning of the poem, the
female reader could identify the tone of the passage as passionate, but later goes into a more forceful
tone. A man reading the poem would pick up a more masculine appeal to love (Kelly 283). Some
believe that the text of the poem is aimed to attempt the reader, particularly the male population, in a

Last year when the book, Shutter Island reached the book stores I purchased it immediately. While I
was in the middle of reading it the audio book was released, so I decided to download it to my MP3
player. I located my place in the book and picked up there on my MP3 player so while following along
in my book I listened to the audio. To my surprise the two were very different, not much that you
would say they wrote two different books. Although enough you could tell the reader was not reading
from the same book you were. As I followed along listening, the reader was adding parts that were not
in my book, now these pieces could have been in the original books manuscript from which he might
be reading, but it helped to give further insight into the story. Having really enjoyed reading this piece,
however watching the movie after reading the book anyone could pick out at least fifteen things that

major failure at the box office. Now you can understand my reasoning for not watching the movies

With a tax credit, you get to subtract that amount from your tax liability. If you made $50,000 and owe
$5,000 in taxes, a tax credit of $1,000 means that you now owe just $4,000.
With a tax deduction, the deduction is subtracted from your taxable income. In the same $50,000
example, a $1,000 tax deduction means that you know have a $49,000 taxable income. If you are
taxed at the same rate as the previous example, then you would owe $4,900 in taxes. The most
common tax deduction is the personal exemption, which was $4,050 in 2016. Meanwhile, the child tax
credit is the most common tax credit. This worked out to $1,000 in 2016.

Football And Pop Culture
As Americans, we all have multiple perspectives on life and what it brings to the table. We have our
opinions on what we think is the most common pop culture to man. Although there are many, there is
one thing that all Americans can probably agree on and cannot argue about, well, sometimes. In my
opinion, football would be the sport that most of the population can relate to while it brings everyone
together as it has for many generations. It plays a huge role in popularity; therefore, football has made
the name for itself as the most popular American sport across the nation. It is a common characteristic
in everyday lives and it will continue to live on and prosper through many generations to come. I have
learned how football is one of the most common, classic characteristic of American culture over the
years and my story behind my knowledge can tell it all. I would like to start off and say that we could
come up with many different characteristics that are common to American culture. Instead of naming
them all, we can oversee why American football is clearly one of them within people across the
nation. With it being a very high demanding sport in pop culture, I would like to say that people across
the nation can familiarize themselves more with football rather than other sports; for example,
basketball, softball, or even baseball. Whether it is a Friday night high school football game under the
lights, an exciting Saturday for college level, or a relaxing Sunday watching

Beach Boys Caroline
For this week s listening journal, I listened to Caroline No by The Beach Boys. There are many
characteristics of this piece that stood out to me, such as the relationship between the lyrics and the
musical quality and the musical elements that set the tone of the music. At the exposition of Caroline
No there is an eerie drum and cymbal introduction that has a sort of call and response relationship.
The cymbals would play a short melody and the drum beat would follow, this exchange occurred a
couple of times. This exchange between the cymbals and the drums made the piece seem melancholic
and mysterious and sets the mood for the rest of the song. The quality of the voice was interesting
because it was unlike most songs of The Beach Boys I have heard of before. Throughout the song, The
Beach Boys have a slow and relaxing tempo that does not shift as the piece progresses. For the most
part, the tempo remains steady and slow. This steady tempo is accompanied by lyrics that relate to the
overall melancholic mood of the song. The song talks about a girl named Caroline that used to be a ...

where is the girl that I used to know, how could you lose that happy glow, oh Caroline no. The words
go, know, glow and no all rhyme with each other. This is also present in the second verse between the
words away and say. Furthermore, the last word of each line is sung with melisma. For instance, the
word know is sung with several notes to one syllable. This musical element adds to the smooth and
earthy timbre of The Beach Boys. Also, there is falsetto and harmony throughout Caroline No. The
Beach Boys appear to sing above their normal range and this further contributes to the smooth and
melancholic musical quality. All the singers in The Beach Boys sing in harmony to a beat in

Dagan Martinez Dr. Amanda Bruce AMH2020 26 September 2014 Comparison, Analysis, and
Criticism of Economic Ideals in the Gilded Age In his essay, The Gospel of Wealth, Andrew Carnegie
argues that the imbalance of economic wealth is essential to the advancement of society. In days past,
there was little difference between the quality of life between a ruler and his subject. Alluding to a
time when Carnegie visited the chief of an indigenous American tribe, he observed that the Chief of
the Indians , who lived in a state of antiquity, tent was no different from even the poorest among the
tribe. Returning back to this stage of civilization would be detrimental to both the ruler and subject. Is
it better for all of us to live in poverty than for a few of us to have riches? Shouldn t those who prove
themselves masters in art and literature and those of higher intelligence have more than those with no
talent? This is the way society is progressing. Whether or not one actually believes that doesn t matter,
as changing the destiny of civilization is beyond one s power. (Carnegie, 28 29) It is better to improve
society through the construction public foundations such as museums and libraries rather than alms
giving. Through alms giving, one encourages laziness and vagrancy rather than integrity, and thus
damages society. Through public structures, one provides support for those who actually wish to

Examples Of Bilbo Transformation In The Hobbit
By: Rutherford Medley In the Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins starts out peacefully relaxing outside his Hobbit
hole, happy being all alone with peace and quiet. Gandalf pays him a visit and puts a strange marking
on his door. Those markings said, Burglar wants a good job, plenty of Excitement and reasonable
reward. This is why the dwarves brought him on an adventure to find treasure and claim back the
Dwarves kingdom from the evil dragon Smaug. During the journey, Bilbo was shown as a soft and
humble character that turns into a character full of courage and adventure. In this essay, I will prove
that Bilbo has changed and developed into a brave and wise hobbit and at points he was also a trusted
leader. The first piece of evidence in the book is in the Chapter, Riddles in the Dark. In that chapter
Bilbo is lost in a cave and finds a ring that will later be shown as a ring of magic. But before he finds
out that it is magic, he finds Gollum who challenges Bilbo into a game of riddles, and if Gollum wins
he gets to eat Bilbo, but if Bilbo wins Gollum has to show him the way out. Bilbo who eventually
wins demands the way out of the cave. But, Gollum who takes the loss bitterly, goes back to his island
and tries to find his birthday present and kill Bilbo. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The American Of New Canada
Welcome good friend to the brand new state of New Canada! What once was a corrupt country north
of the center of the world (U.S.) is now the 55th state to the American Empire. The year is 2050, and
almost five years since the ending of the Third World War. Five years post war and civilization is still
in a state of recovery, which is why we bring Americans a piece of the past and a bit of familiarity
with the grand opening of New Canada s capitol building. We do this to honor the fallen and help
Canadians assimilate into American Culture.
New Canada is a shell of what it used to be before its great depression and eventually WWIII. The
Canadian depression started in 2033 with what historians are now calling The Great Sellout.
Historians have no idea what initially caused it, but the act was that all businesses in Canada relocated
and outsourced to foreign countries leaving millions of Canadian citizens unemployed and Canada
without industry. Canada suffered the largest deficit ever to be had by a country at the time and the
record only grew higher every year after. In its desperation, Canada sold itself out to China in 2039 in
an attempt to improve the lives of its citizens. China took over what used to be car factories and turned
them into weapon manufacturers. Only one year after the colonization of Canada, China invaded the
U.S.
WWIII lasted for five years, ending in 2055 with the U.S. now having control over China and part of
Russia, Ukraine, and Japan. These four

Liberals also believe that the government should make sure that no one is in need and they also

criminals to get their hand on a gun and cause more trouble than they have already caused. To sum it

Exoplanet Proxima B Meaning
On a daily basis, humans are forced to make countless decisions. They can be inconsequential like
should I wear red socks or blue socks? or the weighty decision: Should I go to the convenience store
that s five minutes away or drive for an hour to get to a large supermarket? . How does this translate to
space travel? Well it is a simple and very accurate analogy. As dwellers of the Earth, we have a similar
choice. Travel through space for an inexorable amount of time just to get some milk, bread and eggs
or make a left at the intersection and drive straight until you pass Voyager 1. Then BAM! You have
reached your destination. The exoplanet Proxima B, from the Proxima Centauri star system is the
convenience store of space. Proxima B is conveniently situated and could conceivably support life. As
well as its environmental aspects, humans would benefit from the increase in their extraterrestrial
knowledge by colonizing there. In the constellation Centaurus, there is a star system named Alpha
Centauri in which there are three stars. Both A and B are approximately the same size as our sun ...

The Industrial Revolution did not start simultaneously around the world, but began in the most highly
civilized and educated country in Western Europe England. An empire like Great Britain was able to

machinery, like the spinning shuttle and the spinning jenny, was being used to develop textile
manufacturing at home in England. The British Parliament was able to control its territories through
laws and other restrictions. However, Britain s futile attempts to block the development of new

The Navigation Acts forbade the American colonies to manufacture any finished goods, and these acts
defined anyone living within the British colonies as an English subject. The purpose of the Navigation
Acts was duel: to protect British shipping against competition from the Dutch, as well as from other
powerful foreign countries, and to grant a British monopoly on colonial produce, such as tobacco and
sugar, to the English merchants. Under these acts, the American colonists were limited to buying only
British goods and could only import and export goods in English ships rather than in their own vessels
(Balik). In addition to the Navigation Acts, the British also passed the Trade Acts, which were to
ensure that the entire British Empire was prosperous and that the trade of the various colonies was
complimentary to each other and to Britain. The British Parliament enacted additional acts that
became known as the Intolerable Acts. Colonists resisted the passage of the Stamp Act and Townshend

of British goods. However, the British Parliament did not give up its right to tax its colonies.

A comparison of native students and their non native peers quickly brings one to the realization that

is vital that native Canadians address this issue thoroughly, to insure that the nation is no longer faced
with a semi literate, unemployable population, requiring financial support. In order to fully address

degrees, cultural assimilation through education did not work for a variety of reasons. Although early
native students were culturally displaced in white schools, they continued to take tremendous pride in

early schools to anything he had previously experienced. Subjects taught in residential schools did not
generally interest the native student. Native indifference to early formal education can be found. One

Essay On Should Police Wear Body Cameras
Over the past year there have been many situations between police officers and civilians that we don t
exactly know what happened because it someone s word over another. In August 2014, an unarmed
black teenager, Michael Brown, was shot by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Some witnesses
confirmed the police officer s claim that he shot the teenager under self defense. While others claimed
that the victim posed no threat to the officer and that the shooting was uncalled for. The result of this
was that the police officer wasn t charged with a crime. If that officer had been wearing a body
camera, while he was on duty, we could see with our own eyes if Michael Brown was threatening to
the officer or if the shooting was unjustified. Police officers should wear body cameras while on duty
because the cameras would hold police accountable to their actions, prevent violence, and would
improve the public s perspective on police officers.

Medical Futility Research Paper In our lifetime, as we experience the loss of our loved ones, death is often perceived to be frightening and may provoke numerous feelings such as confusion and anger. The reality of the inevitability and permanence of death is an uncomfortable subject, but it is one that must be ultimately faced. Furthermore while there is a current GCSE called Media Studies (AQA, 2016), it can only be studied within year 9 onwards meaning pupils might not have learnt any skills within the previous years regarding media which could be a disadvantage for some. The GCSE is also time constricted as it has to be taught within just two years. The National Advisory Committee on Creative and Cultural Education (1998:3) report states that there is stronger emphasis on creative and cultural education . The Multi Media Studies subject would allow for creativity to be shown through numerous ways such as through graphic design, game design, filming, editing as well as broadcasting and photography. McTeague noticed that the street was always occupied by people with different kinds of people at specific times of the day. Since San Francisco is described as full of energy because of the people in it, it is inferred that the city has a personal, tied connection to its inhabitants. Frank Norris portrayed the city as full of liveliness and excitement to showcase how San Francisco itself is its own main character with human like characteristics, ultimately suggesting that capitalism makes a city thrive. First and foremost, the chronological timed schedule in which the people of San Francisco rely on is shown as a continuous cycle that keeps the city up and running. The narrator states, A little later, following in the path of the day laborers, came the clerks and shopgirls [...] always in a hurry, glancing apprehensively at the powerhouse clock. (155) Not only does this quote show that the city is a busy area where countless things are happening, but also shows how it runs on a clock that lets people know where they have to be and when. The powerhouse clock is a symbol of how San Francisco has a biological clock similar to what humans have. Norris writes that the street wakes breakfasts and sleeps in order to show that the street is comparable to a living organism. Through the usage and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The conflict between the United States and the Middle East is of great concern in the world today because of the heightened tensions in Syria, which is being terrorized by the radical Islamic group called ISIS. Scholars and Theorists like Samuel Huntington have addressed the question of why states are experiencing heightened tension and have concluded that conflict in states or between states is the result of ethnic differences, namely religion and culture. Samuel Huntington s essay, Clash of Civilizations, is extremely interesting because I always questioned what would have happened if every race were to stay in the territories they inhabited, like North America where Aboriginals settled, and the Middle East where the Arabians settled. Deloria was born on a Yankton Sioux Reservation on 31 January 1889. Although her father was an Episcopal missionary, Deloria still grew up learning the traditions of the Sioux and speaking the Dakota language. Upon graduating college, she served as a health education secretary for Indian schools and reservations. But her true passion in life was studying and informing others on Dakota culture and life. When given the opportunity, Deloria dropped everything to become a research assistant. This first step enabled her to ultimately become an ethnologist and write the historical fiction novel Waterlily. Waterlily details the life of two fictional nineteenth century Sioux characters: Blue Bird and Waterlily. Deloria s experiences enabled her to contribute to the study of nineteenth century Dakota life through the historical novel Waterlily; especially, the use of oral history in the creation of the novel, gender roles, and kinship dynamics. Much of the experiences portrayed within Waterlily come from interviews Deloria conducted, thus it is important to examine the role of oral history in the creation of Waterlily. • 20. Essay On Footwork In Volleyball On the whole; volleyball can be very difficult, one thing that makes it so hard is passing. There are two ways to pass; the fore arm pass also known as the bump, and the set. A bump is when the player sticks out their arms with their forearms to the sky. This creates a flat surface for the ball to land on and bump up. As the ball is approaching the player they get lower to the ground like a squat and raise themselves as they contact the ball. The set is when the player raises their hands and creates a diamond with their index fingers and thumbs. The rest of the fingers are spread out to cover more space on the ball. It is very light with little to no rotation, the set is hard to do but when it is perfected; it helps the game greatly. Foot work and the position of the ball helps a lot too. Jocasta and Creon also try to warn Oedipus of the impending truth, but it is to no avail, as Oedipus will not heed their pleas. With it being a very high demanding sport in pop culture, I would like to say that people across the nation can familiarize themselves more with football rather than other sports; for example, basketball, softball, or even baseball. • 28. Beach Boys Caroline For this week s listening journal, I listened to Caroline No by The Beach Boys. There are many characteristics of this piece that stood out to me, such as the relationship between the lyrics and the musical quality and the musical elements that set the tone of the music. At the exposition of Caroline No there is an eerie drum and cymbal introduction that has a sort of call and response relationship. The cymbals would play a short melody and the drum beat would follow, this exchange occurred a couple of times. This exchange between the cymbals and the drums made the piece seem melancholic and mysterious and sets the mood for the rest of the song. The quality of the voice was interesting because it was unlike most songs of The Beach Boys I have heard of before. Throughout the song, The Beach Boys have a slow and relaxing tempo that does not shift as the piece progresses. For the most part, the tempo remains steady and slow. This steady tempo is accompanied by lyrics that relate to the overall melancholic mood of the song. The song talks about a girl named Caroline that used to be a ... For example, where did your long hair go, where is the girl that I used to know, how could you lose that happy glow, oh Caroline no. The words go, know, glow and no all rhyme with each other. This is also present in the second verse between the words away and say. Furthermore, the last word of each line is sung with melisma. For instance, the word know is sung with several notes to one syllable. This musical element adds to the smooth and earthy timbre of The Beach Boys. Also, there is falsetto and harmony throughout Caroline No. The Beach Boys appear to sing above their normal range and this further contributes to the smooth and melancholic musical quality. Analysis Of The Poem The Gospel Of Wealth Dagan Martinez Dr. Amanda Bruce AMH2020 26 September 2014 Comparison, Analysis, and Criticism of Economic Ideals in the Gilded Age In his essay, The Gospel of Wealth, Andrew Carnegie argues that the imbalance of economic wealth is essential to the advancement of society. In days past, there was little difference between the quality of life between a ruler and his subject. Alluding to a time when Carnegie visited the chief of an indigenous American tribe, he observed that the Chief of the Indians , who lived in a state of antiquity, tent was no different from even the poorest among the tribe. Returning back to this stage of civilization would be detrimental to both the ruler and subject. Is it better for all of us to live in poverty than for a few of us to have riches? Shouldn t those who prove themselves masters in art and literature and those of higher intelligence have more than those with no talent? This is the way society is progressing. Whether or not one actually believes that doesn t matter, as changing the destiny of civilization is beyond one s power. (Carnegie, 28 29) It is better to improve society through the construction public foundations such as museums and libraries rather than alms giving. Through alms giving, one encourages laziness and vagrancy rather than integrity, and thus damages society. Through public structures, one provides support for those who actually wish to succeed can rise in society. Those who are most deserving of alms rarely need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Bilbo Transformation In The Hobbit By: Rutherford Medley In the Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins starts out peacefully relaxing outside his Hobbit hole, happy being all alone with peace and quiet. Gandalf pays him a visit and puts a strange marking on his door. Those markings said, Burglar wants a good job, plenty of Excitement and reasonable reward. This is why the dwarves brought him on an adventure to find treasure and claim back the Dwarves kingdom from the evil dragon Smaug. During the journey, Bilbo was shown as a soft and humble character that turns into a character full of courage and adventure. In this essay, I will prove that Bilbo has changed and developed into a brave and wise hobbit and at points he was also a trusted leader. The first piece of evidence in the book is in the Chapter, Riddles in the Dark. In that chapter Bilbo is lost in a cave and finds a ring that will later be shown as a ring of magic. But before he finds out that it is magic, he finds Gollum who challenges Bilbo into a game of riddles, and if Gollum wins he gets to eat Bilbo, but if Bilbo wins Gollum has to show him the way out. Bilbo who eventually wins demands the way out of the cave. But, Gollum who takes the loss bitterly, goes back to his island and tries to find his birthday present and kill Bilbo. ... What once was a corrupt country north of the center of the world (U.S.) is now the 55th state to the American Empire. The year is 2050, and almost five years since the ending of the Third World War. Five years post war and civilization is still in a state of recovery, which is why we bring Americans a piece of the past and a bit of familiarity with the grand opening of New Canada s capitol building. We do this to honor the fallen and help Canadians assimilate into American Culture. New Canada is a shell of what it used to be before its great depression and eventually WWIII. The Canadian depression started in 2033 with what historians are now calling The Great Sellout. Historians have no idea what initially caused it, but the act was that all businesses in Canada relocated and outsourced to foreign countries leaving millions of Canadian citizens unemployed and Canada without industry. Canada suffered the largest deficit ever to be had by a country at the time and the record only grew higher every year after. In its desperation, Canada sold itself out to China in 2039 in an attempt to improve the lives of its citizens. China took over what used to be car factories and turned them into weapon manufacturers. Only one year after the colonization of Canada, China invaded the U.S. WWIII lasted for five years, ending in 2055 with the U.S. now having control over China and part of Russia, Ukraine, and Japan. They can be inconsequential like should I wear red socks or blue socks? or the weighty decision: Should I go to the convenience store that s five minutes away or drive for an hour to get to a large supermarket? . How does this translate to space travel? Well it is a simple and very accurate analogy. As dwellers of the Earth, we have a similar choice. Travel through space for an inexorable amount of time just to get some milk, bread and eggs or make a left at the intersection and drive straight until you pass Voyager 1. Then BAM! You have reached your destination. The exoplanet Proxima B, from the Proxima Centauri star system is the convenience store of space. Proxima B is conveniently situated and could conceivably support life. In August 2014, an unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown, was shot by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Some witnesses confirmed the police officer s claim that he shot the teenager under self defense.
