Politics Is Fueled By Corruption
Politics is fueled by corruption. It causes government involved citizens to over use their power
into manipulating others to achieve what they want. In All the King s Men, written by Robert
Pen Warren, Warren distributes politics to show how Willie Stark transformed. His character
gradually deteriorates as a person throughout the political novel leading up to his death. Warren
writes to exemplify politics and how it ruined lives of well rounded people. Warren demonstrates
the role of politics as evil because he wants to prove the corrupted doings of politics. Novel, All
the King s Men, Willie Stark is slowly, but thoroughly corrupted by multiple political instances
that ultimately lead to his death. Politics has a life of its own. Before anyone ponders the idea of
entering politics, people should know their life as a kind, average citizen will fly out the door.
Willie Stark was an old farm boy who had a life of work. The town loved him as a person; he was
kind and courteous to all of the citizens. Before he had the idea of running for governor, he had
what he believed to be the truth set on his mind. He wanted to make a change to his home town,
Mason City, and he wanted there to be truth in the government. His plans were meant for good, not
evil. In All the King s Men, Warren wrote Stark s opinion, Man is conceived in sin and born in
corruption, and he passeth from the stink of the didie to the stench of the shroud. There is always
something (223). Stark began with

My Computer s Death After The World Wide Web
Once upon a time, my computer burned out and shut down before my very eyes, leaving me
without so much as a goodbye or any sense of closure. Instead, I sat on my computer chair
mystified and heartbroken. After all these years, why couldn t it have told me it wasn t feeling
the same? At first I denied the possibility of my computer being gone. It s tired. It needs to rest, I
would say to my parents, whom tried to assure me it was as gone and never rebooting. It was
only then that I started to accept my computer s death as my fault. I hadn t been listening to its
alerts for a Norton Security update and I was using it at all hours of the day without giving it a
moment s rest, resulting in its heinous fate. I never payed attention to my computer, because I
was too busy using it for the internet, my mind completely absorbed on the many dalliances of
the World Wide Web. To say my computer s ability to let me access media was impactful on my
life is an understatement....considering how much I mourned its passing. Truthfully, media
content allowed me comfort. Unlike other teenagers at the time, I was never attached to social
media hubs like Myspace or Facebook. In fact, I hardly ever used these platforms beyond playing
games. Although that could be explained away as a result of my own social anxieties at the time;
the fact of the matter was that I wasn t interested. In the beginning, namely freshmen and
sophomore year, I tried my best to be like the other kids.

Favorite Room Analysis
The essay I decided to fix was the very first essay, Favorite Room. The reason I decided to fix the
Favorite Room essay was because of all the rules I broke. When I wrote the paper, I had several
mistakes which involved words ending in ing. The problem with sentences which end in ing is the
sentence becomes a sentence fragment. In the first draft I did for the essaymost of my sentences
were sentence fragments because of the ing problem. The reason the sentences were all sentences
fragments was because all of the sentences I had with an ing word, those sentences started with an
ing word. The sentence would have a predicate and a verb in the sentence which creates the
fragment. An example of the old essay sentence would be, standing in the

Zoot Suit Movie Analysis
Zoot Suit is about a gang of boys that were in the wrong area at the wrong time. Henry, is the
leader of the 36th gang. Which includes: Smiley, Rudy, Tommy, and Joey. To start it off, Henry
got jumped by the downey gang while Della witnessed it. Della and Henry then left to get the rest
of their gang to go back. They went to the party, but the Downey Gang had already left. The people
that were still there thought they were the Downey Gang coming back to cause more trouble, so
they attacked them right away. They were then convicted of the murder of Jose Diaz, who was there
that night and got killed. Two lawyers named Alice and George, thought their trial was wrongfully
convicted. So they went to battle for the boys named Smiley, Henry,Tommy and Joey. They wanted
them to have justice because they knew they were not the ones who commited the crime. The judge
was wrongfully accusing them because they wore zoot suits.
The book Zoot Suit by Luis Valdez was made into a film. In the movie, the scenes are out of order,
in an attempt to help the viewer understand better. Also, because it pushes the narrative forward,
and keeps the viewer engaged. Some scenes are not as important as others, so they were cut from
the film. For instance, the three scenes that were changed in the film, were changed from the book
to help the reader understand better. The play and the film are completely different. They have
similarities but the biggest difference is that the film jumps back and forth

“Evaluate the Claim That Religious Language Is...
In the debate about religious language, it is important that broadly speaking, there are two types of
language, cognitive and non cognitive. Cognitive language conveys facts i.e. things that we can
know or be cognisant of. Non cognitive language conveys information that is not factual; feelings
and emotional claims. Those who believe that religious language is non cognitive and so
meaningless stem their beliefs from the Logical Positivist. The Logical Positivists were a group of
philosophers who were primarily concerned with the truth contained in statements we can make, or
in other words, with what can be logically posited, or stated. The group began in Vienna, Austria in
the 1920s and gathered around a philosopher called Moritz... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Brian Davies further argued that the verificationism principle itself is unverifiable; one cannot
verify whether it is true or false and therefore by its own criteria, it is meaningless. Both Ward
and Davies s arguments significantly weaken verificationism. Hick argued that statements are
eschatologically verifiable, so that after someone dies, they can verify all the statements they
made when they were alive, however this is a weak argument against verificationism, and it
does not weaken the verification principle as much as Hick and Davies. One other philosopher
who was influenced by the Logical Positivists (alongside Karl Popper) was Anthony Flew. Flew
believed that when you assert something, you are also asserting (whether you like it or not) that
there are facts/evidence that may count against your assertion. His Falsification principle
proposed that a statement was meaningless if no sense experience could count against it; a
statement is meaningful if it is known what empirical evidence could count against it. Flew uses
the parable of the gardener to illustrate his point; Two explorers return to come across a garden in
which had grown flowers and weeds. Even though there are some areas which are overgrown,
there are certain areas that appear to be tended to. One argues that there is a gardener on account of
the flowers, the other argues that they could be no

Polital Environment in Bangladesh
Political Environment in Bangladesh and its Impact on International Trade Introduction The
interface between international trade obligations and domestic regulation of trade, health, safety
and the environment, special and differential treatment of developing countries dictates whether a
country will be able to gain from trade, commerce which contributes to development of a country.
Since, independence, the political environment of Bangladesh has been fragile due to its lack of
proper democratic practice, self fulfilling prophecy and decision making with inadequate
knowledge of international relations. Therefore, it is a dire need to know the impact of political
foresight to gain advantage in international trade. Overview of Political... Show more content on

So, contribution by Bangladesh Awami League, the Jatio Party and BNP has been immense in
increasing international trade. The potential areas for investment in Bangladesh include:
agriculture, fisheries, agro based industries, chemicals, light industries, natural gas and oil

foreign investment in Bangladesh are otherwise bright, we have at the same time some barriers to
investment. Such barriers include mainly Political instability a common problem in Bangladesh.
Though we expected substantial change in our political environment, we are not observing any
positive signs yet. This is a major disincentive for foreign investors. Most of the trade unions of the
country have political ties with the parties in power and opposition. This hampers industrial
production and pollutes the with environment. As a result, production target fail, the industry incurs
losses. The country has liberalized its banking and telecommunication sectors. Although,

Strategies For Raising Test Scores
This article is shows different strategies that a principal can use to help raise test scores in schools.
The strategies mentioned have been used by principals in the past and, therefore, have been
successful for schools. The authors mention six different strategies that can be helpful and certainly
fall along the lines of best practice. The strategies involved are analyzing test data, parents support
score raising efforts, constant monitoring of progress, looking at student work helps improve
teaching, practice tests all year, and good teaching is good teaching.
As I progress toward being a principal one day, I found myself with a need to figure out what to do
with test scores and how do you fix low scores. To be honest, I have not had a lot of time or
practice interpreting test scores and what those scores mean in the end. How to improve those
scores was even farther away from my thoughts? What the article brings for me is less of specific
strategies and more along the lines of good leadership for a school. I have been teaching for
eighteen years and can count on one hand the number of times I have been asked to interpret
test scores and figure out strategies to help. The last time I looked at Iowa Assessments was
about six years ago and I noticed a large gap in what we were teaching versus items that were on
the test. The result of that gap analysis was changing from a cultural approach to a much wider
spread history course. On top of that, we as a

The Extent to which You Think the Gothic Novel Represents...
To what extent do you think that the Gothic novel represents recognisably modern anxieties?
Since the 1800 s, vampires have often found their way into literature, legends, and popular culture.
The vampire s first appearance in Gothic fiction came from John Polidori s publication, The
Vampyre in 1819, and from then the fascination of the vampireand gothic literature as a whole
grew and can be viewed as a commentary on the period of time in which it was written. The strong
image of the vampire is a strong metaphor for communicating the zeitgeist of the time. By analysing
Bram Stoker s, Dracula (1897) and Sheridan Le Fanu s, Carmilla (1872), as both novels are very
important as they both helped mainstream vampire literature and created characters that have
remained popular for over a century. An examination into these texts and the significance of the
vampire on modern anxieties and anxieties of the time can be understood. In order to do this an
analysis will be placed upon the main themes within both texts, such as degeneration, patriarchy,
gender and class.
The use of vampires within Carmilla and Dracula can be seen as significant in representing
colonialism and the worries of degeneration that were established towards the Fin de siГЁcle of the
nineteenth century. Both texts present the hierarchy of civilisations through binary opposites such
as the West being presented as good and light, and the unknown and mysterious East being
described as negative, mysterious and

Food Production Essay
The Production of meat in the United States and Argentina is a huge commodity to both of the
countries development, because both countries ranked in the top five meat consumption list
according to Forbes. The idea that food production occurs mainly in less developed countries is
contradictory, according to the rankings of the top food producers in the world. Looking at specific
countries and comparing the top three development indicators is an effective way of showing
development because it categorizes life expectancy, education, gross national income, and adds a
fourth dimension in carbon emissions. Food production is said to negatively affect a countries

index. The three indicators that were put into place effectively indicate and show development
because they cover the key aspects of Human Development listed above. Although the three

one important thing that it doesn t cover is the gross domestic product which really shows a
countries social well being and economic development. While the GDP has its strengths it also
has its weakness because its quality is not computed and distributive aspects are ignored. Social
well being can often be described as the GDP of a country but even though the U.S is ranked
number one in the world in GDP it is still not the top country when it comes to social well being.
If we take all aspects into consideration such as health and wellness, as well as personal safety
which is not considered in GDP the U.S would not even be in the top ten. According to a new breed
of country success metrics called Social Progress index created in 2015, the U.S ranked number

investments in green production and sustainable consumption can increase economic growth and
development without increasing the emissions of greenhouse gases. This could be the recipe for

Advantages of using the social media aspect can attract the attention needed to promote a product
or service intended or drive traffic to the intended website of services. This type of channel has
the ability to bring people together from all over the world as well as allows each person to
express their own opinions and ideas, providing well needed feedback. Disadvantages of this
method when not used properly or failed to promote the communication effectively can cause a
permanent damage to the company s reputation; as this mistake is seen in front of hundreds or
thousands of people who also have direct and easy access of spreading their messages online. This
way of communicating can also be more time consuming as someone has to be constantly checking
in to make comments, answer questions, and reply to feedback.

The Ideas Of Victory Cities
A man named Orville Simpson II has an idea to build virtual utopias, called Victory Cities.
(Simpson, 1998) They are designed as cities built in the countryside, all connected through
various types of transportation. There will be no crime, pollution, over population, or other
everyday problems; it will be a utopia. A utopia is a place where there are no problems like death,
poverty, or crime. It is perfect world (Merriam Webster.com) A Victory City
will have no everyday
problems involved in it. Will Victory Cities be a successful utopia, or not?
One of the most important factors in a Victory City is the money system. Mr. Simpson s brilliant
idea for the money system is having all citizens carry a banknote around with them. When someone

These are imaginative ideas for the residential areas, but it can have problems, such as some
people being jealous of the people with larger apartments. People today don t share apartments
with strangers, making it a different system than our society, but I think it is still a great idea. It
will be a large part of a Victory City.
Another essential element in a Victory City is transportation. Within the city, there will be only two
types of transportation: elevators, and small electric cars. The high speed elevators make it
possible to move around a building, from one place to another, in only five to ten minutes. The
electric cars are very safe, even children can operate them, and they will prevent many accidents.
Connecting Victory Cities will be larger electric cars and trains, running through tunnels
underground. The transportation system is quite different than our way, as we can choose
between varieties of different vehicles, and it is not allowed in a Victory City. I think it is a
brilliant idea for the transportation in the city. Mr. Simpson s safe transportation system will be a
major part of the city.A fourth element in a Victory City will be a food system.

Elisabetta Sirani And Anguissola
Since the beginning of time the utmost of woman was known to be found in the character of a
wife, a mother, a sister and that of a daughter. If a woman found herself with a brilliant mind and a
talent it was thought to best keep it a secret. Despite the physical and mental constraints on women,
they have been able to negotiate the expectation of genderand the professional practice of art by
achieving artistic excellence, virtue, and a great share in social responsibility.
The following essay will argue this in relation to two self portraits by Elisabetta Sirani and
Sofonisba Anguissola, who were both born in Italy in the 15th and 16th century. The aspect of both
self portraits that stands out, is the way in which the artists have depicted ... Show more content on

At the age of 14 both sofonisba and her younger sister Elena were sent out by their father, who

Campi, a respected local painter. Anguissola also went on to study under Bernardino Gatti, Through
this period she began receiving encouragement from Michelangelo and many other fellow artist.
Sofonisba went on to become the first known established female artist both nationally and
internationally.
In Self Portrait At Easel Anguissola has choosen to show the portrait she is painting within the
frame, creating a layered active effect of a painting within a painting. From her actions in this piece
the viewer derives that the setting is a space where the artist works. Everything but herself and the
painting is a negative space, further accentuating her process of painting.
It is interesting the scene Anguissola has choosen to depict in her process of painting. It is a
very feminine depiction of Virgin and Christ Child bringing to mind that a woman is a creator in
her birthright and her physical capacity to hold a life inside her body. The artist also choose to

The Great Nation Of The United States
The great nation of the United States has relied and grown on the basis of a widely used term:
The American Dream . Those three words for many spark feelings of opportunity, hope, and
aspirations, however more so now than ever people are considering the term as three empty and
even deceiving words. The root of the issue lies in the economic state of the working class and the
steps that the government is taking to ensure the virtues of social class mobility in our society. In
2013 Secretary of Labor Tom Perez proposed to raise the federal hourly minimum wagefrom the
current $7.25 to $10.10. Since then, there has been heavy political debate and controversy over the
proposal and Congress has yet to act on it. The evidence through social observations and analysis is
clear that raising the federal minimum wageto $10.10 would protect the sacred American dream by
increasing opportunity for hard working Americans, stimulating revenue for businesses, and
defending the interests of our nation s consumers and taxpayers. There is no doubt about it;
minimum wage workers who work full time are hard workers who deserve to make ends meet.
Unfortunately, for many of these workers, their minimal salaries are not sustainable for the cost
of living. Joanna Cruz is a 30 year old mother of three who works in the fast food industry of New
Jersey. She works full time at minimum wage and times are tough. Cruz provides for her two
daughters twelve and seven, and her son who is only four. Cruz

The Serpent King
The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco at Civic Center offers a collection of artworks from Asia.
Pieces of sculpture, carvings, paintings, and ornate jewelry from Asia that were on display were all
shaped by the artists who created them who in turn is shaped by the culture and environment that
surrounded them. This is particularly evident the Mathura and Gandhara region where the medium
influences the sculpturegreatly. The Serpent King (Nagaraja), Fig. 1, comes from the Mathura
region of India, in the Uttar Pradesh State and stands at about three feet tall but seems larger as it
looms over the viewer on the pedestal. The sculpture is made of red sandstone and is believed to
have been made in 207. The Region of Mathura became a trading... Show more content on

The different use of medium is the first indication of their difference. The sculptor of the
Bodhisattva from Gandhara, Fig. 2, was able to carve and sculpt in greater detail because of the
Schist that they used. Schist is darker in color, almost black, smoother in texture and looks
harder that sandstone. This type of medium allowed sculptors to have a totally different style
and approach than that of sculptors from the Mathura region. With the ability of being able to
carve even more details comes a totally different physical look on the sculpture. The faces of the
figure are more sculpted and more defined yet it still retains a rounded and fleshy look. Some
facial features including the eyebrows, eyes, nose bridge and lips were carved to look sharper.
There are heavier and deeper details on the hair, the ornaments, the jewelry, and lines that make
up the drapery, allowing a more realistic style of carving. The body of the figures are still created
as fleshy and rounded as the India culture preferred. The Bodhisattva sculpture was made in 200
350 while the Nagaraja sculpture was created in 207. Study of western art would suggest that art
works created within certain time frame must belong to some sort of movement and therefore have
the same kind of technique and look. Both sculptures from the Mathura and Ghandara region were
created around the same time but differ greatly in style. This further

Globalization And Cosmopolitanism By Thomas Friedman
Globalization and Cosmopolitanism In current century, it has become way easier to communicate
with one another around the world because of the advancement in technology, making it way easier
for us to know what s going on around the world from our couch with the help of the internet,
which is known as globalization. Because of globalization it has become easier to communicate
with people which is what Kwame Anthony Appiahemphasizes on making conversation and the
primacy of practice . Appiah also talks about another concept that is cosmopolitanismwhich means
global citizens of the world and how it may either bring people together or draw them apart from
one another. Appiah also emphasizes that making conversation doesn t necessarily mean that it
would reduce conflict, Thomas Friedman also agrees with Appiah theory, which is No two
countries that are both part of the same global supply chain will ever fight as war as long as they
are each part of that supply chain (Freidman 173). Does making conversation really solve any
problem/conflict? What is cosmopolitanism and does his concept really help apply to the world
and how helpful has it been in solving problems? Does meditating into different cultures solve any
problems? After 9/11 began a divide between us and them will that be solved? Being connected to
one another does that really solve problem much. Appiah mentions in the interview that even

Presidency as an Institution
The Presidency as an institution
Both the administration of Carter and Reagan were shaped by the Cold War in the aftermath of
Watergate. Watergate created cynicism of the government, which in turn made governing difficult
both intentionally as well as improvisational because the institution of the President was seen as
acting in the best interest of itself. President Jimmy Carter and President Ronald Reagan both had
their difficulties as President. Carter had terrible problems with economics as our country
underwent high unemployment as well as many other economic problems. Reagan was one of the
unfortunate Presidents that had to deal with assassination attempts. Both Presidents had great

Reagan was good at the institutional end of the Presidency because of his belief in limited
government and his ability to communicate. He was President when America was under
economic hardship. Reagan s Presidential plans were to cut taxes to try and help the lagging

attempt to take his life had put his health at risk. Reagan got approval from congress for his tax
plan to restructure America and help regain some sort of economic base. Reagan had a very acute
leadership and historical impact during his Presidency.

He had strong general convictions, he set his administrations overall priorities early on. He
obviously placed his defensive buildup and his economic programs a head of everything else. He
was very tactically flexible; he often showed no regret when he had to adjust to political opposition

intentions were to increase military spending, knowing that the Soviet Union was slowly falling

America s Role In The Bosnia Genocide
Genocide, the planned murder of an entire nation, race, or ethnic group. From March 1, 1992 to
December 14, 1995 that exact thing was happening in Bosnia Herzegovina. Disagreement between
the three main ethic groups (The Serbs, Croats, and the Muslims) proceeded in a genocide
committed by the Serbs against the Muslims in Bosnia. Bosnia is one of several small countries
that appeared from the break up of Yugoslavia, a multicultural country created after WW1 by the
western allies. In April 1992 the government of the Yugoslavia republic of Bosnia stated its
independence from Yugoslavia. Over the next several years, Bosnian Serbs commanded Yugoslavia
army and targeted Bosniak (Bosnian Muslims) and Croatian civilians for terrible crimes resulting
in the deaths of about 400,000 people. In other words, America should have helped in the Bosnia
genocide. America should have helped in the Bosnia genocide because of the suffering Bosnia
Herzegovina was going through. Evidence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The total number of deaths was around 400,000 people. But if a narrow definition of genocide
was used then the number decreases by quite a lot but either way they are still people just born
different compared to the Bosnian Serbs. With the narrow definition used a said maximum of
104,732 people ( Srebrenica Genocide Blog. 1) were killed out of those 104,732 people 12,000
children were slaughtered. In addition to those who lost their lives, countless more were
traumatized in a program of torture, mass rape, forced labor and imprisonment in concentration
camps ( Bosnia and Herzegovina. CJA.). Before the war, Bosanski Samac was home to 17,000
Bosnian Muslims and Croats. By May 1995, less than 300 of these residents remained ( Bosnia

America to step in and help the Bosnian fight back against the Bosnian

Second Hand Smoke Research Paper
In the world today we have many things that are harmful and dangerous to us. Ordinarily, when
we think of someone causing you harm, it is not so close to home. Your mother and father are the
furthest from your mind of people who would do something to harm you. In many cases, they are
the people who can do the most harm. In this review I would like to determine if children ages
unborn of eighteen with daily exposure to tobaccosmoke have a predisposition to asthma. I chose
these ages because this is when the child is unquestionably helpless and vulnerable to the parents,
when they are living with them. They have no other options than to be around the parent and
cannot take care of themselves outside of the home.

Smoking or secondhand smoke is one of the most common reasons for an asthma attack. An asthma
attack is when the person cannot breathe because the airways are swollen. This also includes
coughing, wheezing and tightness or pain in the chest. In many cases of asthma, it is preventable.
The secondhand smoke is the reason the asthma was developed. Children with asthma and exposed
to secondhand smoking are more likely to have an asthma attack than children without exposure to
secondhand smoke. We know that asthma cannot be cured, there are only symptom relievers such
as inhalers. Asthma can last for a patient s entire life, forcing them to live limited lives, with limited

George Orwell s Stance on Capital Punishment in Essay, A...
The essay A Hanging by George Orwell speaks to the reader about the author s stance on capital
punishment. I believe that Orwell was able to communicate his point, without actually saying I m
against capital punishment, through three steps. The first step is to set the mood and bring you
into his perspective. From the dreary description of the morning to the slow procession of the
condemned man to the gallows, Orwell puts the reader in a mood that conveys the experience of
watching a man die. The second step is to compare himself to the condemned man, showing how
we are all equal. A life is a life, whether you are a condemned man or not. The third step is to show
how everyone tries to cope with the aftermath of the execution. This... Show more content on

When he talks about the wrongness of taking a man s life, I get the sense that this was something
that shook him to the core. This was a basic human reaction to death. Death is unpleasant and
generally unwelcome, so why must we kill someone who is just as alive as we are? The
condemned man feels, sees, and thinks like us, an equal. The condemned man was considered
equal by the dog in the essay. I see the dog as symbolism for equality. It did not matter to the dog
that the man was sentenced to death. He was another human being, a potential friend that was
alive and well. After the execution, the dog seemed to know the wrongness of not only his
misbehaving but that of taking a life as well. I think that everyone is an equal and that life is
something special. Everyone seems to deal with death differently. As the essay concludes, Orwell
mentions how everyone was laughing and that it was a homely and jovial scene. I do not think that
I would be laughing after the death of someone who was hung right in front of me. Most people
tend to be solemn and sad after someone dies but certainly not laughing. I believe that for some
laughing is just a coping mechanism used to deal with the gravity of what just happened. They feel
extremely relieved that the terrible situation is over, yet I think the memory remains with them.
Others perhaps are heartless and think that the man deserved

The Natural Born Citizen Clause
I The NATURAL BORN CITIZEN CLAUSE AS ORIGINALLY UNDERSTOOD IN EARLY
AMERICAN AND BRITISH COMMON LAW WOULD REFUTE SENATOR CRUZ S CASE
THAT HE IS A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN WITHOUT CORRESPONDING STATUTES
MAKING AN EXCEPTION.
The modern conventional wisdom of the phrase natural born citizen in the presidential eligibility
clause referred to anyone who was a U.S. citizen at birth either by a U.S. statute or via the
Constitution. The Constitution has no definition section, and subsequently the Supreme Court has
stated that when the Constitution is silent the law must be interpreted in the light of the common law
, the principles and history of which were familiarly known to the framers of the Constitution. My
argument is simple, it is reasonable to assume that the framers, most of whom were well trained
lawyers, purposely did not define the term natural born citizen believing that the controlling
common law principle was Jus Soli, and that Congress would pass corresponding statutes to
accommodate any exceptions to this principle similar to the practice that occurred in England with
Parliament.
A.The Common Law Meaning of the Natural Born Clause at the Time of Its Adoption in the
Constitution Most Likely Meant the Strict Approach of Jus Soli with the addition of Naturalization
Statutes.

Haiti Economic Growth Essay
Most modern sources agree that the French anthropologist Alfred Sauvy coined the term third world
in an article published in the French magazine L Observateur, on August 14, 1952. Although, the
expression was first used in prerevolutionary France to identify the lowest ruling class, the phrase
became popular after World War II. It seems clear that the wealthy Caribbean island Haiti, which
gained its independence from France in 1804, and had experienced some real economic growth
should also be enjoying real economic development in the twenty first century. What is not clear is
how and why the island s economic growth and social development has placed Haiti the twentieth

there has been little economic growth and economic development to match the United States

Payne and Nassar tell us in chapter six of Politics and culture in the developing world that the real
challenge of economic development is in improving the quality of the peoples lives. This
development occurs with economic growth.
Growth is usually associated with the development of natural resources and the construction of an
infrastructure to effectively utilize those resources. As countries mine copper, produce petroleum,
manufacture steel, grow and process agricultural products, and make automobiles, they also build
roads, bridges, ports, airports, railways, and lighthouses; develop communication networks;

Chapter 1: Euripides Biography Part 1: Bob Prescott Euripides lived in a very mysterious time.
We know so little about the era in which he lived because of the loss of many ancient
manuscripts at the burning of the Library of Alexandria. Given this massive loss of knowledge
of the pre modern world, it is hard to cobble together a full biography of Euripides. There is,
however quite a lot of information known about him. This is known due to the fact that Euripides
is a character in some of Aristophanes and the other comic poet s comedies. The largest
comprehensive collection of information on the playwright, however, is from a biography called

Or perhaps, he, like many writers, preferred to write in solitude. Throughout his life, Euripides
married twice and had three sons. His wives were Melito and Choirile and his sons were named
Mnesarchides, Mnesilochus, and Euripides. Two of his sons, Mnesilochus and Euripides,
followed in their father s footsteps and became an actor and producer, respectively (Satyrus
153). Satyrus mentions in his Vita that Euripides first wife was unfaithful, to which Lefkowitz
adds that she slept with their slave, Cephisophon (Lefkowitz 97). Satyrus explains that after
discovering that she had committed adultery, he penned Hippolytus, in which he exposes
women s immorality. (154) After remarrying, Euripides discovered that his second wife was also
unfaithful. This was said to make him even more eager to slander women. (Satyrus 154)
Speculation of how Euripides works were perceived when they were new is a difficult concept.
Given how male dominated society was at the time, a safe assumption is that Hippolytus was
well accepted, as were many of his other works. Medea, as another example, was probably well
accepted by Greeks because of its superficial display of women and foreigners. Today, the play is
known to be an interesting analysis of a complex character oppressed by society, but in ancient
times, it is uncertain whether the theatre patrons would have seen past the surface. At some point in

What s the difference between culture and cultural resistance? According to Merriam Webster,
culture is the beliefs, customs, and/or arts of a particular society, and cultural resistance is the
practice of using meanings and symbols to contest a dominate power. During the 1980 s, there
was a lot of evidence, as there is today, of cultural resistance in Iran and in the USA. Some of the
evidence can be observed from movies based on true events that occurred, such as the movie, Not

Iranian women have a very specific and distinct dress code that they have to follow, or there
could be severe consequences in not doing so. It shows in the movie Not without My Daughter
how Betty had to immediately cover up in clothes Iranian women wear as she arrived is Iran. In
Iran, Iranians view women s hair as erotic and so covering their hair and female figure is the
basic requirements of modesty. This is done by wearing a chador, which is a piece of dark
clothing that is wrapped around the body and head and gathered at the chin. Women are allowed
to wear anything underneath their chador, but Iranian women must hold the chador shut with one

Lgbtc Reflection Paper
LGBTQ I would say that my views on the LGBTQ community haven t really changed, but rather,
I ve gotten a better picture of what LGBTQ experiences are outside of my own cluster of friends
who identify within the LGBTQ community. As a high school student, my LGBTQ wasn t a big
deal. I wanted to confirm this fact and asked the few friends I knew from my hometown that had
been out in in high schoolwhat their experiences were like. They had been afraid to come out
because they knew other students that had run into issues in rural districts, but like the You ve Got
to Talk Him Out of It article by Nicholas Pace said, we should remember that our school might
surprise us (Pace 39).
Gender Gender has always been a hot button topic for me. I ve experienced, first hand,
discrimination that occurs based on gender, but this semester has taught me a lot more about
gender than I expected. Thanks to the discussions on LGBTQ and gender, I understand that
while the topics overlap, the idea of sexual orientation, sex, and gender are very different things.
In the Who Said It? article, written by Jessica Press, it is stated that, even before you re born,
doctors can tell if you re a boy or a girl based on your body that s your sex. But your gender falls
along a spectrum. We hold onto these categories of being masculine or feminine, but there are
degrees inbetween (Press 16). Gender has too many stereotypes associated with it and I think it s
vitally important to help our future students deconstruct those stereotypes.
Race I would say that I still have a lot to learn when it comes to racial bias and racial issues. This
semester taught me how to understand and work through implicit bias. Before this semester, I
didn t know what implicit bias was, but I understood the concept because I was able to recognize
my thoughts when situations occurred. I ve spent a long time worrying that I was racist and that
I wouldn t be able to overcome that part of me that I ve never meant to have. I m not sure if I m
supposed to be comforted by the fact that I can now give that feeling a name, or not. It s nice to
know I m not crazy, but more importantly, I now have more knowledge on the subject so that I can

The Sources of English Law Essay example
The Sources of English Law In UK there are three main sources of English law, Legislation
(Statue Law), Common Law (Judge made Law) and the European Communities law. English
Law was historically based on customs and social traditions. Today Custom Law is a part of
Common Law, notably being in cases where there was no judicial precedent but which were

Parliament can delegate the power to legislate to various bodies such as local authorities, the
Crown and ministers. Delegated legislation has same legal force and effect as the Act of
Parliament. The advantages of delegated legislation are: time saving, access to particular
expertise and, flexibility. On the other hand it can be a disadvantage due to lack of
accountability and effective scrutiny as it can erode the constitutional powers of the
Parliament. Another major source of law comes from judges deciding cases before them, also
referred to as Case Law. Judges use various rules to interpret legislation and the intention of the
Parliament. For example, in the case of Royal College of Nursing v. DHSS [1981] 1 All ER 545,
three judges gave their judgment using the mischief rule and two judges used the literal rule to
interpret the Abortion Act 1967, and the intention of the Parliament (173 and 174 Slapper G.

All ER 48 decided in the House of Lords. The court re interpreted the legislation so that a
husband could be found guilty of raping his wife. Stare decisis or binding precedent is at the heart
of the English legal system and case law is particularly dependent on it. It refers to

Professional Learning Community
A Professional Learning Community, or PLC, is a group of educators that meets regularly, shares
expertise, and works collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of
students. Professional learning within communities requires continuous improvement, promotes
collective responsibility, and supports alignment of individual, team, school, and school system
goals.
The literature on professional learning communities repeatedly gives attention to five attributes of
such organizational arrangements:
1.Supportive and shared leadership,
2.Collective creativity,
3.Shared values and vision,

Learning communities share collective responsibility for the learning of all students within the

Blood Treatment Of Blood Transfusion Essay
Plasma, red blood cells, antigens, and antibodies are just some of the components of blood that
have to be studied before matching a donor and recipient for a blood transfusion. Blood
transfusion is a complex and long process that has a unique matching market of its own. In order
to see if the blood is a safe match, technicians have to check for compatible bloodtypes (the most
preferable is type O), non matching antigens, and finally cross matching to see if the antibodies
will attack the donor s cells. All of this is done in a large market with blood from hundreds of
thousands of donors. Due to the large number of options and room for the match to be ineffective
or be rejected, there are numerous problems in this market. It is possible for there to be a mix up
with the blood, or unknown factors could arise where the donor and recipient end up being a bad
mix. There is an arduous, difficult process of making a match in this market, and this causes some
problems that I will propose a few solutions for. First, there are many terms involved with blood and
transfusions that should be understood before moving onto the substance of this essay. Some of the
more important terms are antigens, antibodies, ABO groups, and Rh. Antigens are proteins
/carbohydrates that are able to be recognized by our immune systems, then foreign antigens that the
immune system detects are attacked and destroyed by antibodies. Antibodies are present in
everyone. They are molecules in the immune system

Chickpeas Vs Spinach Research
Those attending university are often searching for budget bites. Everyone has to eat and no
matter whether the budget available is large or small, students want to eat well. Good food
makes you feel better, brightens the day and provides the body with fuel. One dish that really
delivers is chickpeas and spinach with a fried egg. The key to getting this dish cooked just right
is building a lot of flavor in the chickpea and spinach sautГ© as well as getting the egg right so it
runs when you break the yolk. Once these two things are taken care of you will have a spectacular
breakfast.
What s in it?
Serves 2
ВЅ cup spinach, fresh or frozen
1 15 oz. can tomato sauce
1 can chickpeas, rinsed and drained

If you used fresh spinach add some water to help it wilt.
SautГ© and season with salt and black pepper.
Pour the tomato sauce into the skillet along with the canned chickpeas.
Stir and cook until the chickpeas are warmed through.
Transfer the chickpeas and spinach to a large bowl and wipe the skillet clean.
Pour in 2 tablespoons of oil and heat over medium. You can also use butter.
Gently crack the egg into the skillet and season with salt and pepper.
Fry the egg for a few minutes. Cover to set the top. No one likes runny egg whites.
Put the chickpeas and spinach in a serving bowl.
Top with the fried egg.
Serve.
This is one great breakfast dish. The chickpeas are packed with protein and the spinach is
flavorful and full of fiber that will leave you with that satiated feeling for hours. Aside from
filling you up this dish has so many vitamins and minerals including vitamin K, potassium,
calcium, folate and vitamin A. It s really a breakfast you can feel good about. Chickpeas and
spinach with a fried egg is good for the body and the budget. Don t forget to break the yolk and let
it ooze into the sautГ©. The combination is just

Civilians In Space
Civilians in space! Space travel? Not on my list. Sure, rocket ships, space, and zero gravity may
sound fun, but I would not go. Think about how much all of it would cost, with a rocket and
insurance, and plus, making sure insurance can cover your safety would not be easy. Convinced
yet? No? Then read along. First of all, I would assume the cost to travel to space would not be
dirt cheap. Some people argue that the costs are overwhelming and unrealistic, as it says in
paragraph 5 of Civilians In Space . You would have to own a lot of money and only some people
could not afford that. Also, the passage says that people also point to the billions of dollars that
would have to be raised through consumer or corporate sponsorship. That might cost as much as
building the Great Wall of China! Still not convinced? One more reason up my sleeve.... Show more

The Impact Of Airbnb On Hotel Industry
The development of sharing economy in tourism and hospitality
The sharing economy has started become more prominent between 2011 and 2012 after the
exceptional accomplishment by Airbnb and Uber. (Martin, 2016). Acording to Carr (2012), Airbnb
has become a major element in changing the stagnant hotel industry back in 2011 which has paved
the way for sharing economy. Schor and Fitzmaurice (410:2015), further elaborate terms such as
sharing economy , collaborative consumpation , or peer to peer economy are common terms used
to define an activity of sharing between one person to another to provide items or services that let
the user the ease of using a certain services or goods without having to own or buy the said items

Conversely, Queensland Tourism Industry Council (2014) perceive Airbnb can be a menace to the
traditional tourism and hospitality business mainly towards budget hotels. A research on the
impact of Airbnb to hotel profits in Texas by Zervas et al. (2015) also shown the impacts are
greater for budget hotels, independent hotels and hotels that are not suitable for business travellers.
This is due to the accommodation provided by Airbnb is relatively cheaper than hotels in certain
region and is far more worthwhile by giving the traveller a more significant social encounters with

Dame Burnell Research Paper
For me, being a role model was important, just to show there are women doing science, enjoying
it and being good at it. Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell said that herself. Dame Burnell was and is one
of the most important astrophysicists and astronomers from the 20th century. She has had an
amazing life, with revolutionary work. It is appropriate for her to be retired now. Dame Jocelyn
Bell Burnell was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on July 15th, 1942. Her parents (who are both
deceased) are M. Allison Bell, her mother, and G. Philip Bell, her father, who was an architect. Her
father co designed the Armagh Planetarium. That s when she found her father s books on
astronomy. She spent the rest of her kid years and her teen years in Lurgan,... Show more content on

Tillot (she was his favorite student). Eventually, she attended Lurgan College. Originally, girls were
not allowed to study science until parents and students boycotted that policy. In 1965, Dame
Bell Burnell graduated from the University of Glasgow with a BSc degree in Natural
Philosophy. In 1969, she graduated from the University of Cambridge with a PhD degree in
Natural Philosophy. At Cambridge, she attended New Hall. She worked with Anthony Hewish
and others to make a 81.5 radio telescope, which she also operated. It was used to study the
recently discovered quasars (distant objects powered by black holes a billion times as massive
as our sun), by using interplanetary scintillation (radio counterpart of optical twinkling of stars).
In 1967, she found what she described as a bit of scruff on her chart recorder papers. Dame Bell
Burnell discovered that the signal was pulsating consistently and regularly. What was
temporarily called Little Green Man 1 (now called PSR B1919+21), was really a speedily rotating
neutron star. She had helped discover pulsars. This was reported by the BBC Horizon series. A
big controversy in the science world that included Dame Bell Burnell was the 1974 Nobel Peace
Prize in Physics. Not only did she build, create, and operate the radio

Modern Day Pirates
anything else of value that could benefit their cause. They evaded prosecution because of the
wide open sea and the impenetrable coastal mazes of reefs, inlets, and river mouths, the pirates
were able to escape the wrath of the law for several decades (Kuhn, 2009; 2010, 29). Those who
enter into this lifestyle were called pirates. Some of the most successful pirates whom their
names are still spoken today and are idolized are Blackbeard, Black Bart, Captain Morgan, and
Calico Jack just to name a few. The list goes on and on. All the mention pirates terrorized vast
bodies of water and colonies pillaging anything of value. Piracyjust did not take place at sea or in

The most notable flag signifying piracy is the skull with the two crossed swords that is seen
today in Hollywood movies. This flag was flown under the control of Calico Jack, who terrorized
the beautiful water of the Caribbean. Pirates took advantage of the geographic structure just as
modern day pirates do today. Shipping routes are very predictable and narrow channels help to
funnel vessels into an ambush style attack limiting mobility for the fleeing ships. In history pirate
sailed, waters included greater parts of the Atlantic, Straits of Malacca and Gibraltar, Gulf of Aden,
Caribbean, Red Sea, Indian Ocean, and Somalian coast just to name a few. The penalty for piracy
was death normally by hanging. That could give a reason why they fought so hard because at any
moment, it could be their last not to mention that a single ship could be carrying riches beyond the
imagination. As Navies around the world realized the problems of piracy, they started to build
ships that were faster and equipped with a variety of heavy weapons to hunt them down. They were
considered hostiles, and action could be taken on site without any governing order. They were

Yup In Jail
Many people have things that mean a lot to them and would hurt if they were ever to lose that
something. Well what I hold dear to me is just two pieces of paper. Yup, just paper. I know what
you re thinking how can paper mean so much to me. Well it isn t the paper itself that makes it so
special it s what s on it. Those pieces of paper contain words and a drawing that my father did for
me when he was in jail. He still is in fact in jail so that s why it means so much. Me and my father
are rather close so when I heard that he was in jail it hurt. So when the letter got in the mail you bet
I got excited. I didn t exactly know how to read it when I first opened it. I know how can i not be
able to read it, well the reason for that is because it was in Spanish and I don t really know how to
read it. So instead I got my mom to read it to me. He wrote about how he was doing and how it was
being in there. I really liked reading it because it let me know he was doing okay. Now the letter
itself was written on a blank... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

because I just want to keep it to myself. Either way I don t think I would want to share it with
anyone. It s something that I would consider private. And I know most people don t really have
anything that they consider valuable, but I do. And that just happens to be this letter and
drawing. Maybe that s why these two pieces of paper are so important to me. Not just because
they were given to me from my dad, even if it is one of the reasons. I think it s because it s the
only thing that I have that belonged to my dad.And knowing that i won t see him for a long time
and that he s so far away from me right now I guess it s something that can keep me close to him.
I know it sounds stupid and maybe it even is. But to me it isn t and I still think this is something i

Dr. King s Letter From Birmingham Jail
Dr. King Lays the Clergymen s Anxiety to Rest
Dr. Martin Luther King addressed many topics in, Letter from Birmingham Jail . He answered
all the issues that were aimed towards him in a very skillful and well thought out manner. These
issues came from, A Call For Unity , which was a letter that was published by eight local
clergymen expressing their feelings about what Dr. King was doing. One concern in particular
that King did an outstanding job of confronting was that of the clergymen s anxiety about him
breaking the law. King addresses the question of, How can you advocate breaking some laws
and obeying others? by clarifying that there are just and unjust laws. He also goes on to explain
the difference between the two, the effect of unjust laws on the people that they are aimed
towards, as well as examples of such laws. Furthermore, he explains why they should be broken
and gives examples of when they ve been broken in the past with the usage of civil disobedience.
First, Dr. King clears up any idea that he s just someone who has broken the law for no reason.
He does this by saying; I would be the first to advocate obeying just laws. One has not only a
legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to
disobey unjust laws. (Para 15) This statement tells us that Dr. King is simply adhering to his
moral responsibility by doing as he s supposed to. He knows that following a law that is not fair
makes no sense, and it

  • 2. Politics Is Fueled By Corruption Politics is fueled by corruption. It causes government involved citizens to over use their power into manipulating others to achieve what they want. In All the King s Men, written by Robert Pen Warren, Warren distributes politics to show how Willie Stark transformed. His character gradually deteriorates as a person throughout the political novel leading up to his death. Warren writes to exemplify politics and how it ruined lives of well rounded people. Warren demonstrates the role of politics as evil because he wants to prove the corrupted doings of politics. Novel, All the King s Men, Willie Stark is slowly, but thoroughly corrupted by multiple political instances that ultimately lead to his death. Politics has a life of its own. Before anyone ponders the idea of entering politics, people should know their life as a kind, average citizen will fly out the door. Willie Stark was an old farm boy who had a life of work. The town loved him as a person; he was kind and courteous to all of the citizens. Before he had the idea of running for governor, he had what he believed to be the truth set on his mind. He wanted to make a change to his home town, Mason City, and he wanted there to be truth in the government. His plans were meant for good, not evil. In All the King s Men, Warren wrote Stark s opinion, Man is conceived in sin and born in corruption, and he passeth from the stink of the didie to the stench of the shroud. There is always something (223). Stark began with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My Computer s Death After The World Wide Web Once upon a time, my computer burned out and shut down before my very eyes, leaving me without so much as a goodbye or any sense of closure. Instead, I sat on my computer chair mystified and heartbroken. After all these years, why couldn t it have told me it wasn t feeling the same? At first I denied the possibility of my computer being gone. It s tired. It needs to rest, I would say to my parents, whom tried to assure me it was as gone and never rebooting. It was only then that I started to accept my computer s death as my fault. I hadn t been listening to its alerts for a Norton Security update and I was using it at all hours of the day without giving it a moment s rest, resulting in its heinous fate. I never payed attention to my computer, because I was too busy using it for the internet, my mind completely absorbed on the many dalliances of the World Wide Web. To say my computer s ability to let me access media was impactful on my life is an understatement....considering how much I mourned its passing. Truthfully, media content allowed me comfort. Unlike other teenagers at the time, I was never attached to social media hubs like Myspace or Facebook. In fact, I hardly ever used these platforms beyond playing games. Although that could be explained away as a result of my own social anxieties at the time; the fact of the matter was that I wasn t interested. In the beginning, namely freshmen and sophomore year, I tried my best to be like the other kids. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I wrote the paper, I had several mistakes which involved words ending in ing. The problem with sentences which end in ing is the sentence becomes a sentence fragment. In the first draft I did for the essaymost of my sentences were sentence fragments because of the ing problem. The reason the sentences were all sentences fragments was because all of the sentences I had with an ing word, those sentences started with an ing word. • 5. Zoot Suit Movie Analysis Zoot Suit is about a gang of boys that were in the wrong area at the wrong time. Henry, is the leader of the 36th gang. Which includes: Smiley, Rudy, Tommy, and Joey. To start it off, Henry got jumped by the downey gang while Della witnessed it. Della and Henry then left to get the rest of their gang to go back. They went to the party, but the Downey Gang had already left. The people that were still there thought they were the Downey Gang coming back to cause more trouble, so they attacked them right away. They were then convicted of the murder of Jose Diaz, who was there that night and got killed. Two lawyers named Alice and George, thought their trial was wrongfully convicted. So they went to battle for the boys named Smiley, Henry,Tommy and Joey. They wanted them to have justice because they knew they were not the ones who commited the crime. The judge was wrongfully accusing them because they wore zoot suits. The book Zoot Suit by Luis Valdez was made into a film. In the movie, the scenes are out of order, in an attempt to help the viewer understand better. Also, because it pushes the narrative forward, and keeps the viewer engaged. Some scenes are not as important as others, so they were cut from the film. For instance, the three scenes that were changed in the film, were changed from the book to help the reader understand better. The play and the film are completely different. • 6. “Evaluate the Claim That Religious Language Is... In the debate about religious language, it is important that broadly speaking, there are two types of language, cognitive and non cognitive. Cognitive language conveys facts i.e. things that we can know or be cognisant of. Non cognitive language conveys information that is not factual; feelings and emotional claims. Those who believe that religious language is non cognitive and so meaningless stem their beliefs from the Logical Positivist. The Logical Positivists were a group of philosophers who were primarily concerned with the truth contained in statements we can make, or in other words, with what can be logically posited, or stated. The group began in Vienna, Austria in the 1920s and gathered around a philosopher called Moritz... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brian Davies further argued that the verificationism principle itself is unverifiable; one cannot verify whether it is true or false and therefore by its own criteria, it is meaningless. Both Ward and Davies s arguments significantly weaken verificationism. Hick argued that statements are eschatologically verifiable, so that after someone dies, they can verify all the statements they made when they were alive, however this is a weak argument against verificationism, and it does not weaken the verification principle as much as Hick and Davies. One other philosopher who was influenced by the Logical Positivists (alongside Karl Popper) was Anthony Flew. Flew believed that when you assert something, you are also asserting (whether you like it or not) that there are facts/evidence that may count against your assertion. His Falsification principle proposed that a statement was meaningless if no sense experience could count against it; a statement is meaningful if it is known what empirical evidence could count against it. Flew uses the parable of the gardener to illustrate his point; Two explorers return to come across a garden in which had grown flowers and weeds. Even though there are some areas which are overgrown, there are certain areas that appear to be tended to. • 8. Strategies For Raising Test Scores This article is shows different strategies that a principal can use to help raise test scores in schools. The strategies mentioned have been used by principals in the past and, therefore, have been successful for schools. The authors mention six different strategies that can be helpful and certainly fall along the lines of best practice. The strategies involved are analyzing test data, parents support score raising efforts, constant monitoring of progress, looking at student work helps improve teaching, practice tests all year, and good teaching is good teaching. As I progress toward being a principal one day, I found myself with a need to figure out what to do with test scores and how do you fix low scores. To be honest, I have not had a lot of time or practice interpreting test scores and what those scores mean in the end. How to improve those scores was even farther away from my thoughts? What the article brings for me is less of specific strategies and more along the lines of good leadership for a school. I have been teaching for eighteen years and can count on one hand the number of times I have been asked to interpret test scores and figure out strategies to help. The last time I looked at Iowa Assessments was about six years ago and I noticed a large gap in what we were teaching versus items that were on the test. The result of that gap analysis was changing from a cultural approach to a much wider spread history course. On top of that, we as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Extent to which You Think the Gothic Novel Represents... To what extent do you think that the Gothic novel represents recognisably modern anxieties? Since the 1800 s, vampires have often found their way into literature, legends, and popular culture. The vampire s first appearance in Gothic fiction came from John Polidori s publication, The Vampyre in 1819, and from then the fascination of the vampireand gothic literature as a whole grew and can be viewed as a commentary on the period of time in which it was written. The strong image of the vampire is a strong metaphor for communicating the zeitgeist of the time. By analysing Bram Stoker s, Dracula (1897) and Sheridan Le Fanu s, Carmilla (1872), as both novels are very important as they both helped mainstream vampire literature and created characters that have remained popular for over a century. An examination into these texts and the significance of the vampire on modern anxieties and anxieties of the time can be understood. In order to do this an analysis will be placed upon the main themes within both texts, such as degeneration, patriarchy, gender and class. The use of vampires within Carmilla and Dracula can be seen as significant in representing colonialism and the worries of degeneration that were established towards the Fin de siГЁcle of the nineteenth century. Both texts present the hierarchy of civilisations through binary opposites such as the West being presented as good and light, and the unknown and mysterious East being described as negative, mysterious and ... Those three words for many spark feelings of opportunity, hope, and aspirations, however more so now than ever people are considering the term as three empty and even deceiving words. The root of the issue lies in the economic state of the working class and the steps that the government is taking to ensure the virtues of social class mobility in our society. In 2013 Secretary of Labor Tom Perez proposed to raise the federal hourly minimum wagefrom the current $7.25 to $10.10. Since then, there has been heavy political debate and controversy over the proposal and Congress has yet to act on it. The evidence through social observations and analysis is clear that raising the federal minimum wageto $10.10 would protect the sacred American dream by increasing opportunity for hard working Americans, stimulating revenue for businesses, and defending the interests of our nation s consumers and taxpayers. There is no doubt about it; minimum wage workers who work full time are hard workers who deserve to make ends meet. Unfortunately, for many of these workers, their minimal salaries are not sustainable for the cost of living. The different use of medium is the first indication of their difference. The sculptor of the Bodhisattva from Gandhara, Fig. 2, was able to carve and sculpt in greater detail because of the Schist that they used. Schist is darker in color, almost black, smoother in texture and looks harder that sandstone. This type of medium allowed sculptors to have a totally different style and approach than that of sculptors from the Mathura region. With the ability of being able to carve even more details comes a totally different physical look on the sculpture. The faces of the figure are more sculpted and more defined yet it still retains a rounded and fleshy look. Some facial features including the eyebrows, eyes, nose bridge and lips were carved to look sharper. There are heavier and deeper details on the hair, the ornaments, the jewelry, and lines that make up the drapery, allowing a more realistic style of carving. Because of globalization it has become easier to communicate with people which is what Kwame Anthony Appiahemphasizes on making conversation and the primacy of practice . Appiah also talks about another concept that is cosmopolitanismwhich means global citizens of the world and how it may either bring people together or draw them apart from one another. Appiah also emphasizes that making conversation doesn t necessarily mean that it would reduce conflict, Thomas Friedman also agrees with Appiah theory, which is No two countries that are both part of the same global supply chain will ever fight as war as long as they are each part of that supply chain (Freidman 173). Does making conversation really solve any problem/conflict? What is cosmopolitanism and does his concept really help apply to the world and how helpful has it been in solving problems? • 22. America s Role In The Bosnia Genocide Genocide, the planned murder of an entire nation, race, or ethnic group. From March 1, 1992 to December 14, 1995 that exact thing was happening in Bosnia Herzegovina. Disagreement between the three main ethic groups (The Serbs, Croats, and the Muslims) proceeded in a genocide committed by the Serbs against the Muslims in Bosnia. Bosnia is one of several small countries that appeared from the break up of Yugoslavia, a multicultural country created after WW1 by the western allies. In April 1992 the government of the Yugoslavia republic of Bosnia stated its independence from Yugoslavia. Over the next several years, Bosnian Serbs commanded Yugoslavia army and targeted Bosniak (Bosnian Muslims) and Croatian civilians for terrible crimes resulting in the deaths of about 400,000 people. Ordinarily, when we think of someone causing you harm, it is not so close to home. Your mother and father are the furthest from your mind of people who would do something to harm you. In many cases, they are the people who can do the most harm. In this review I would like to determine if children ages unborn of eighteen with daily exposure to tobaccosmoke have a predisposition to asthma. • 24. George Orwell s Stance on Capital Punishment in Essay, A... The essay A Hanging by George Orwell speaks to the reader about the author s stance on capital punishment. I believe that Orwell was able to communicate his point, without actually saying I m against capital punishment, through three steps. The first step is to set the mood and bring you into his perspective. From the dreary description of the morning to the slow procession of the condemned man to the gallows, Orwell puts the reader in a mood that conveys the experience of watching a man die. The second step is to compare himself to the condemned man, showing how we are all equal. A life is a life, whether you are a condemned man or not. The third step is to show how everyone tries to cope with the aftermath of the execution. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he talks about the wrongness of taking a man s life, I get the sense that this was something that shook him to the core. This was a basic human reaction to death. Death is unpleasant and generally unwelcome, so why must we kill someone who is just as alive as we are? The condemned man feels, sees, and thinks like us, an equal. The condemned man was considered equal by the dog in the essay. I see the dog as symbolism for equality. It did not matter to the dog that the man was sentenced to death. He was another human being, a potential friend that was alive and well. After the execution, the dog seemed to know the wrongness of not only his misbehaving but that of taking a life as well. I think that everyone is an equal and that life is something special. Everyone seems to deal with death differently. As the essay concludes, Orwell mentions how everyone was laughing and that it was a homely and jovial scene. I do not think that I would be laughing after the death of someone who was hung right in front of me. Most people tend to be solemn and sad after someone dies but certainly not laughing. I believe that for some laughing is just a coping mechanism used to deal with the gravity of what just happened. They feel extremely relieved that the terrible situation is over, yet I think the memory remains with them. Others perhaps are heartless and think that the man deserved ... The Natural Born Citizen Clause I The NATURAL BORN CITIZEN CLAUSE AS ORIGINALLY UNDERSTOOD IN EARLY AMERICAN AND BRITISH COMMON LAW WOULD REFUTE SENATOR CRUZ S CASE THAT HE IS A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN WITHOUT CORRESPONDING STATUTES MAKING AN EXCEPTION. The modern conventional wisdom of the phrase natural born citizen in the presidential eligibility clause referred to anyone who was a U.S. citizen at birth either by a U.S. statute or via the Constitution. The Constitution has no definition section, and subsequently the Supreme Court has stated that when the Constitution is silent the law must be interpreted in the light of the common law , the principles and history of which were familiarly known to the framers of the Constitution. My argument is simple, it is reasonable to assume that the framers, most of whom were well trained lawyers, purposely did not define the term natural born citizen believing that the controlling common law principle was Jus Soli, and that Congress would pass corresponding statutes to accommodate any exceptions to this principle similar to the practice that occurred in England with Parliament. A.The Common Law Meaning of the Natural Born Clause at the Time of Its Adoption in the Constitution Most Likely Meant the Strict Approach of Jus Soli with the addition of Naturalization Statutes. Throughout his life, Euripides married twice and had three sons. His wives were Melito and Choirile and his sons were named Mnesarchides, Mnesilochus, and Euripides. Two of his sons, Mnesilochus and Euripides, followed in their father s footsteps and became an actor and producer, respectively (Satyrus 153). Satyrus mentions in his Vita that Euripides first wife was unfaithful, to which Lefkowitz adds that she slept with their slave, Cephisophon (Lefkowitz 97). Satyrus explains that after discovering that she had committed adultery, he penned Hippolytus, in which he exposes women s immorality. (154) After remarrying, Euripides discovered that his second wife was also unfaithful. This was said to make him even more eager to slander women. (Satyrus 154) Speculation of how Euripides works were perceived when they were new is a difficult concept. Given how male dominated society was at the time, a safe assumption is that Hippolytus was well accepted, as were many of his other works. Medea, as another example, was probably well accepted by Greeks because of its superficial display of women and foreigners. As a high school student, my LGBTQ wasn t a big deal. I wanted to confirm this fact and asked the few friends I knew from my hometown that had been out in in high schoolwhat their experiences were like. They had been afraid to come out because they knew other students that had run into issues in rural districts, but like the You ve Got to Talk Him Out of It article by Nicholas Pace said, we should remember that our school might surprise us (Pace 39). Gender Gender has always been a hot button topic for me. I ve experienced, first hand, discrimination that occurs based on gender, but this semester has taught me a lot more about gender than I expected. Thanks to the discussions on LGBTQ and gender, I understand that while the topics overlap, the idea of sexual orientation, sex, and gender are very different things. In the Who Said It? article, written by Jessica Press, it is stated that, even before you re born, doctors can tell if you re a boy or a girl based on your body that s your sex. But your gender falls along a spectrum. We hold onto these categories of being masculine or feminine, but there are degrees inbetween (Press 16). Gender has too many stereotypes associated with it and I think it s vitally important to help our future students deconstruct those stereotypes. In order to see if the blood is a safe match, technicians have to check for compatible bloodtypes (the most preferable is type O), non matching antigens, and finally cross matching to see if the antibodies will attack the donor s cells. All of this is done in a large market with blood from hundreds of thousands of donors. Due to the large number of options and room for the match to be ineffective or be rejected, there are numerous problems in this market. It is possible for there to be a mix up with the blood, or unknown factors could arise where the donor and recipient end up being a bad mix. There is an arduous, difficult process of making a match in this market, and this causes some problems that I will propose a few solutions for. First, there are many terms involved with blood and transfusions that should be understood before moving onto the substance of this essay. Some of the more important terms are antigens, antibodies, ABO groups, and Rh. Antigens are proteins /carbohydrates that are able to be recognized by our immune systems, then foreign antigens that the immune system detects are attacked and destroyed by antibodies. Antibodies are present in everyone. They are molecules in the immune system ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Think about how much all of it would cost, with a rocket and insurance, and plus, making sure insurance can cover your safety would not be easy. Convinced yet? No? Then read along. First of all, I would assume the cost to travel to space would not be dirt cheap. Some people argue that the costs are overwhelming and unrealistic, as it says in paragraph 5 of Civilians In Space . You would have to own a lot of money and only some people could not afford that. Also, the passage says that people also point to the billions of dollars that would have to be raised through consumer or corporate sponsorship. In 1967, she found what she described as a bit of scruff on her chart recorder papers. Dame Bell Burnell discovered that the signal was pulsating consistently and regularly. What was temporarily called Little Green Man 1 (now called PSR B1919+21), was really a speedily rotating neutron star. She had helped discover pulsars. This was reported by the BBC Horizon series. This flag was flown under the control of Calico Jack, who terrorized the beautiful water of the Caribbean. Pirates took advantage of the geographic structure just as modern day pirates do today. Shipping routes are very predictable and narrow channels help to funnel vessels into an ambush style attack limiting mobility for the fleeing ships. In history pirate sailed, waters included greater parts of the Atlantic, Straits of Malacca and Gibraltar, Gulf of Aden, Caribbean, Red Sea, Indian Ocean, and Somalian coast just to name a few. The penalty for piracy was death normally by hanging. That could give a reason why they fought so hard because at any moment, it could be their last not to mention that a single ship could be carrying riches beyond the imagination. As Navies around the world realized the problems of piracy, they started to build ships that were faster and equipped with a variety of heavy weapons to hunt them down. • 51. Dr. King s Letter From Birmingham Jail Dr. King Lays the Clergymen s Anxiety to Rest Dr. Martin Luther King addressed many topics in, Letter from Birmingham Jail . He answered all the issues that were aimed towards him in a very skillful and well thought out manner. These issues came from, A Call For Unity , which was a letter that was published by eight local clergymen expressing their feelings about what Dr. King was doing. One concern in particular that King did an outstanding job of confronting was that of the clergymen s anxiety about him breaking the law. King addresses the question of, How can you advocate breaking some laws and obeying others? by clarifying that there are just and unjust laws. He also goes on to explain the difference between the two, the effect of unjust laws on the people that they are aimed towards, as well as examples of such laws. Furthermore, he explains why they should be broken and gives examples of when they ve been broken in the past with the usage of civil disobedience. First, Dr. King clears up any idea that he s just someone who has broken the law for no reason. He does this by saying; I would be the first to advocate obeying just laws. One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. (Para 15) This statement tells us that Dr. King is simply adhering to his moral responsibility by doing as he s supposed to. He knows that following a law that is not fair makes no sense, and it ...
