The whole idea of rags to riches embodied the work ethic of the 1920s and previous decades as
the idyllic Golden Age of flappers and mobsters thrived. However, the ideology was flawed in
itself that people were striving for money and not happiness. The average American assumed that

1.0 Introduction
According to the ministry of education in Kuwait it has always been a sin when teach ers use
Arabic in an English class, even if it is to clarify a certain aspect that students could not grasp.
Well, whether we like it or not, Learners of L2 tend to use L1 when learning the target language,
this argument has been proven by a number of re searchers (Atkinson, 1987; Auerbach, 1993;
Cook, 2001; Nation, 2003), and ignoring it or pretending that it is not happening might lead to
pedagogical implications.
Decision makers in ELT unit in the Ministry of Education, who adopt the notion that us ing Arabic
when teaching English is a taboo , have to hear the other voice that considers the use of L1 when
teaching L2 is very helpful and works to facilitate the learning process.
Hence, the current research comes to shed light on the importance of using L1 when teaching L2
and how we can utilise it and use it as a useful tool. Also this research will try to change the
common notion that using Arabic in English class is a deficiency.

The first chapter introduced me to the various roles within OT. This includes activities that are
meaningful to a client. So, not only is OT helping with a problem, such as a broken wrist, but it
also helps break that down into different aspects that are utilized to regain function through tasks.
I didn t realize how much, or the depth OT actually went, and how many occupations there were
to cover. This chapter introduced me to just how diverse the clientele are in OT, and how much
creativity with a holistic approach in activities is used to help in a client s therapeutic treatment.
This chapter made me look positively toward my future in OT, with promise of it being a
rewarding journey. The second chapter gave me a history of where OT has evolved from. I
