Essay about Wuthering Heights and Romantic Ascent
Martha Nussbaum describes the romantic ascent of various characters in Wuthering Heights
through a philosophical Christian view. She begins by describing Catherine as a lost soul searching
for heaven, while in reality she longs for the love of Heathcliff. Nussbaum continues by comparing
Heathcliff as the opposition of the ascent from which the Linton s hold sacred within their Christian
beliefs. Nussbaum makes use of the notion that the Christian belief in Wuthering Heightsis both
degenerate and way to exclude social classes.
To begin Catherine attempts to find heaven as way to soothe her emotion, but discovers her heart
belongs to something else. That something else is Heathcliff, who also finds life on earth a tortuous
and difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the paradox continues because their love cannot ascend to its ultimate form, as each will
refuse their love by the social desires of the time.
Nussbaum also establishes a conflict between the fundamental Christian world of the Lintons,
and the chaotic world of Heathcliff. The distinction is clearly drawn as a virtuous and
companionate world in which the Linton s live, while Heathcliff is drawn to immoral and
devious actions. The author does not however see it this simple. The superficial piteous world is
in fact shadowed by a shallow a fake ideal of life. Even Catherine realizes the forged environment
in which the Linton s live, as she explains, in whichever place the soul lives. In my soul and in
my heart, I m convinced I m wrong. Even though Heathcliff is portrayed as a demonic figure, he
also is shown as the romantic Christina lover. This love is the driving force behind his urge to fight
against what is expected of him. Both the Linton s and Heathcliff are not given the satisfaction of
becoming the portrait for the ideal Christian.
The novel also goes on to comment on Christianity as both imperfect and dubious school of
thought. In the first instance the most pious characters including the Lintons, Ellen Dean, and
Joseph all behave in direct contradiction of their belief. They act selfishly and look no further than
for their own superficial world. Bronte at least gives Heathcliff a justified method

John Dower s War Without Mercy
Japanese were perceived as animals, reptiles, or insects (monkeys, baboons, gorillas, dogs, mice
and rats, vipers and rattlesnakes, cockroaches, vermin or, more indirectly the Japanese herd and
the like)... at the simplest level, they dehumanized the Japanese and enlarged the chasm
between us and them to the point where it was perceived to be virtually unbridgeable. (Dower
81 82) John Dower, the writer of War Without Mercy, focused part of his book on the way the
Japanese in American culture were viewed by the public and the other part on the way the
Americans were viewed by the Japanese in their culture. Each chapter in Dower s book is titled
in a way so that they describe how the Japanese and Americans were viewed by each other s
culture. During WWII the Japanese were not the only culture that was viewed poorly, the
Americans were also viewed very poorly while in the Japanese public culture. Race played a very
large role in the war in the Pacific during WWII. The Japanese were identified with animals most
commonly apes or vermin; and the Americans were identified as demons by the Japanese. The
racial stereotypes between the Japanese and the Americans never went away they just adapted as

to be exorcised, and it was often argued that they had to be completely destroyed. (Dower

Evaluating Alice s Goals Of Pay Off Student Loan
Introduction Goals are vital in any financial planning process to be successful. For goals to be
truly useful, they must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely ( Siegel Yacht,
2009). As personal circumstances change and the economy as a whole also changes, there is
the need to make or plan goals flexible that can easily adjust according to each situation. This
paper will use the S.M.A.R.T planning model to evaluate Alice s goals of; pay off student loan,
buy a house and save for children s education, accumulate assets, retire, and travel around the
world in a sailboat. Defining Alice s goals: To better define Alice s goals, these goals must be
divided into short term, intermediate, and long term goals. We know that Alice s goals are to pay
off student loan, buy a house and save for children s education, accumulate assets, retire, and to
travel around the world in a sailboat. Considering that Alice source of income is only through
wages or salary, Alice goals must therefore classified accordingly. Knowing that Alice currency

Further suppose that Alice has two feasible choices reduces expenses or takes a second job, either
of these choices can be put in place. After assessing Alice s current situation and knowing her
current situation, it is possible to see whether Alice can possibly meet her goals or close to meeting
them. With her little surplus, it can be seen that her intermediate and long term goals can only be
met after a considerable amount of time. Knowing her current situation and looking for ways to
improve so that her goals can be met and timely, there is the need to evaluate alternatives and

Analysis Of The Film The Social Network
Essay 4: The Social Network Critique
The film that we watched in class is called The Social Network. Directed by David Fincher and
released in 2010, it is an informative film which attempts to shed light on the real story behind the
creation and rise of Facebook, starting from the beginning and revealing all the possibly hidden or
not as well known facts behind it. Though some of the movie may be Hollywoodized and
exaggerated for a dramatic depiction, with exceptional acting and a compelling story, it does a
fantastic job of informing viewers all about Facebook while still engrossing them in the story and
captivating their interest.
The movie opens up on a scene when Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, is dumped by
his girlfriend Erica Albright after an argument. From this moment, a long chain of events is set
into motion that ultimately lead to the success of one of the most prominent and influential
social media sites in internet and communication history. After Mark is dumped, he is humiliated
and set on obtaining revenge. From his anger, he, along with his only real friend Eduardo
Saverin, who is played by Andrew Garfield, work to create a website that will serve as payback
for his girlfriend breaking up with him. Created on October 28, 2003, the site that they create is
called Facemash, which is the very first version of Facebook. Originally made to be a site for
comparing photos, the site used pictures stolen from the school database that were plugged into

The Hospitality And Tourism Industry
The hospitality and tourism industry plays an essential role in global growth around the world.
One of the biggest key players is an airline industry. An airline industry contains both hospitality
and tourism. One of the key players to this industry is the cabin crew. However, according to
Laszlo with recent economic decline the airlineindustry is not in good health in terms of operation
and customer service organization said (1999). It is therefore, important to understand that the
crews must perform function as key player in an airline industry by providing various types of
customer service, safety and security threats, sales and promotion.
As cabin crews are playing a crucial role in the industry, they are to be selected carefully by the
human resources. The desired corporate skills sought for the crews are; a motivation to deliver
high standard customer service, team skills and commercial awareness. In addition to these
skills, it is necessary that an individual is interviewed and upon successful application, and to
satisfy all other needs for its industry. An airline cabin crews has been playing an essential role
worldwide for more than decade by comforting dozens of passengers around the world. The
definition of providing comfort to guests is, to also make a profit but as well as to make

Are your parents looking for a new car? If they are, then they should buy a Tesla. Tesla is an all
electric car company. I would suggest Tesla because they are the safest cars on the market, there
are 3 different types of cars that you can choose from (at the time being), and they are very
environmentally friendly.
First of all, Tesla has the safest cars on the market. The cars all have an autopilot function so if it
senses that you are getting too close to any car around you, it will automatically stop or get you out
of the situation. According to Tesla motors, all of their cars are the safest in their class. Also,

Virtual Survivor Of The Holocaust
Museums related to the Holocaust are seen by some to be a necessary evil. How can we
comprehend the catastrophe that is the death of eleven million? However, even if we might not be
able to understand their suffering, we need to understand the history of the Holocaust. For years,
Holocaust museums have relied on art, exhibits, and testimony to convey the story of the Holocaust.
Yet as we progress further into the twenty first century, all the survivors will pass, and the means of
conveying must change. For instance, the Illinois Holocaust Museumand Education Center have
plans to put in place a VR (virtual reality) exhibit that lets you ask questions to a virtual survivor of
the Holocaust. While this innovational use of VR is impressive,

The investigator Joe Raedle reported that, In December 2006, four year old Rebecca Riley was
found dead in her parents home, a victim of a prescription drug overdose. An autopsy revealed
four different drugs in her system: an antihistamine (used to treat allergies), a cough suppressant,
an anti seizure drug and a blood pressure medication. The last two drugs had been prescribed not
because Rebecca suffered from seizures or high blood pressure. Rather, Rebecca s psychiatrist had
prescribed the drugs to alleviate her attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and bipolar

The Leftist Model Of The Cuban Revolution
Fidel Castro, a lawyer in his twenties was an Ortodoxo, was active and organized cells and
published work against the Batista government. From the start of his government Batista faced
opposition. This opposition came from two major groups the leftist Ortodoxos and the moderate
Autenticos, and attempted to rid Cubaof Batista. Castro came to the forefront after his attacks on
the Moncada Barracks on July 26, 1953. Due to a number of mistakes the attack failed but it
became an event that was central to the stories of the Cuban Revolution. Even though it began with
major mistakes and bungles, the Sierra Maestra event was the turning point that truly empowered
Fidel s revolution. Wright expresses, the goals of this phase were to cause increasing... Show more

Wright points out, Efforts to replicate the Cuban Revolution through rural guerrilla warfare had
failed, most of them dismally; the urban variant of guerilla warfare, while meeting with initial
success in Uruguay and Argentina, ultimately succumbed to counterinsurgency measures and to
its own limitations (p. 165). There were also the revolutions from above, for example, the
actions of the Peruvian military and the elected government of Salvador Allende. These
revolutions held out new hope for a few years until both came to abrupt ends. The most visible
results, by the end of 1979, of two decades of tried revolution and reform were the
antirevolutionary regimes that ruled nearly half of Latin America s population and its most
developed countries. (Wright, p. 165) Wright concludes the book with a mention of series of
developments in the early 1990 s that signaled the end of the era of the Cuban Revolution. The fall
of the communist regimes, between 1989 and 1991, in Eastern Europe and then the collapse of the
Soviet Union deprived Cuba of its primary allies and critical economic support. (Wright,

The Jet Black Flea Figurative Language
The Jet Black Flea: A Language Analysis of John Donne s The Flea
The cultural outlook toward the venereal desires shared by the population during the 17th century
was essentially one of abstinence until marriage. In his poem The Flea , John Donne establishes an
imagined debate regarding chastity and the mortal yearning between lovers. A scholar witnessing
this debate in a modern social landscape characterized by a difference in values regarding pre
marital sex may have difficulty understanding the sentiment behind The
Flea and must begin with an investigation of the contemporary language used throughout.
While some language is out dated and no longer used regularly, there are anecdotal aspects which
hold parallels to common language that is still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the second stanza, particularly lines 14 and 15, Donne introduces an image that would have
been recognizable to his contemporary audience. Though parents grudge, and you, w are met,

and likely shared by her parents towards an unwed consummation. Donne likens this exchange as
being cloistered in these living walls of jet
(15). The word of interest to our study is jet. The OED defines jet as a noun meaning a hard black
semi precious form of lignite, able to receive a brilliant polish and used ornamentally, esp. in
Victorian mourning jewelry ( Jet def.н‘›2). The significance of including a reference to a
Rodriguez 2 naturally occurring dark black stone plays into the conceit of a juxtaposition between
the beauty and unsavory connotations of sex outside of marriage that would have been prevalent at
the time.
Om fact, a secondary definition of jet makes mention of an electric charge induced in jet by
rubbing ( Jet def.н‘›2), an obvious allusion to the sexual act. The final comparison concerning jet
as a conscious language decision considers a novel usage of jet black . When something

All that Heaven Allows by Douglas Sirk
In the 1950 s the melodrama genre came to age and there is no better example than Douglas Sirk
s All that Heaven Allows. The melodrama followed some basic characteristics which can be
identified in the film. First and foremost the narrative of the melodrama focused on the family.
All that Heaven Allows follows the narrative of the typical melodrama but at the same time also
challenges the social conventions. While Sirk follows many of the key themes he does so in a
more detached fashion. The protagonist Cary is bound to her community by her social class.
Change was occurring in society and the melodrama displayed people s restraint to this. In All that
Heaven Allows Sirk began his focus on the female and her desires in contrast to the more
conservative male focused melodrama. As with the melodrama the legibility of the story, displayed
through the plot, is simple and easy to follow. Our engagement with the story depends on our
understanding of the pattern of change and stability, cause and effect, time and space (Bordwell and
Thompson, 2008). The linear time flow of the filmallows for it s simple understanding. This is
added to by the expressiveness of the melodrama, where everything is brought into the open and
nothing is left unsaid. The expressiveness of the melodrama is also represented in the highly
expressive mise en scene. Sirks use of colour, the human figure, camera work, lighting and music
allow him to portray suppressed meaning and significance.

In Catch 22, Joseph Heller creates a surreal world of irrationality to illuminate madness and
corruption. Through the satirical characterizations of the novel s leaders, Heller criticizes not just
the institution of war but all forms of bureaucratic establishment. The authority figures in the novel
are portrayed as selfish and deranged maniacs without any sense of morality, driven purely by their
desires to expand their power and reputations. These leaders are able to skew reason to their
benefits through their followers acceptance of conformity and conventions. The novels protagonist,

The most illuminating symbol of a corrupt authority s skewing of reason is Catch 22, the only one
catch (Heller 55). This law is cited several times throughout the novel by Yossarian s officers to
curtail soldier s rights; however, the most fitting summary is given by the old woman in Rome, who
concludes that the law constitutes the military authority s right to do anything [others] can t stop
them from doing (Heller 417). Catch 22 is ultimately whatever the administration wants it to be; it
is one of their tools for manipulating concepts of logic, morality, and law into their favor.
Finally, it is revealed that Catch 22 [does] not exist, but that this ma[kes] no difference because
everyone th[inks] it exist[s] (Heller 419). Catch 22 s nonexistence further demonstrates that
bureaucracy is just a business of illusion (Heller 192). The commanding officers succeed in twisting
truth and judgment through their ability to deceive their followers. Naturally, the followers
susceptibility to their leaders deception is essential to their success. The subordinates are willing to

The Innocent Man Analyse
An Innocent Man by Billy Joel This song really connects with The Innocent Man. The lyrics
strongly represent how witnesses of certain crimes would rather keep their mouths shut then get
involved. The Innocent Man could have had a lot of good within it if people would have spoken
up, but no one did. An innocent man ended up accused of murder because Some people [ran]
from a possible fight and Some people [figured] they [could] never win (Billy Joel). The book
and this song both represent how fear lies within most when it comes to opening up and revealing
the truth, and the good are actually evil for this. Til it Happens to You by Lady Gaga This song

Identification of Carbohydrates Purpose: To identify carbohydrates and be able to identify an
unknown carbohydrate using comparisons. Materials: 30 drops of monosaccharide solution (2)
30 drops of disaccharide solution (2) 30 drops of polysaccharide solution (2) 30 drops of
unknown solution #10 (2) test tube (4) hot plate 30 drops of Benedict s solution (4) 3 5 drops of
iodine (4) beaker (for water bath) Procedure: Number test tubes 1 4. Add 30 drops of each
saccharide solution (monosaccharide solution in 1, disaccharide solution in 2, polysaccharide
solution in 3, unknown solution in 4). Add Benedict s solution to each test tube. Benedict s
solution is a stain, so be careful not to get it on your clothes and rinse with water and and inform
the teacher if it does spill. Heat water bath on medium heat on the hot plate. Heat the 4 test tubes
in the water bath for 5 minutes. The beaker, water and test tubes will be very hot after heating,
handle them with care. Observe and record any changes in color in all solutions Clean test tubes
thoroughly. Repeat Step 1. Add 3 5 drops of iodine to each saccharide solution Do not boil the
solutions with the iodine, it will ruin the reaction Iodine is a stain, be careful not to get it on your

When iodine was added to all four solutions, only one reacted and changed color. Only the
polysaccharide solution, test tube #3, reacted which was expected. When performing the Benedict s
test, a reaction occurred almost immediately after the test tubes were put into the water bath. Both
test tube #1, the monosaccharide solution, and test tube #4, the unknown solution, changed color
from blue to a yellow orange when heated. Since the unknown solution reacted during the Benedict
s Test, used to identify monosaccharides, and not in the Iodine Test, used to identify
polysaccharides, that means the unknown solution #10 is a monosaccharide

To add on, education is very important to me because if people have higher education it means that
usually people would have a higher income. This is very good for me because since my product
is expensive the higher the income the more purchases I will have. Furthermore, looking at my
data I noticed that income is not an issue. In my areas, income is very high which means that
purchases will also be very high too. Moreover, the employment rate is very high. This means
that the income is very high as well. If employment rate is very high, buying my product will be
very easy as well. Lastly, total person with private household is very high as well. If this number
is very high too this means people are paying for their own bills and managing their house
properly. If they are doing this, consumers have money to buy stuff that is wants like my ever
lasting laptop.
Description of Primary Research Using the website survey monkey, I have constructed 8 closed
ended question and 2 open ended questions. This survey was used to obtain information about my
population and to help distribute my product appropriately. In my primary Research, I asked
questions based on the 4 p s, which are product, place, price, and promotion. The closed ending
questions that I asked the consumers were questions that help me improve my product and help me

Jim Jones And The People s Temple Analysis
The Jim Jones The People s Temple article explained that Jim Jones was a notorious cult leader
of the Peoples Temple. He was self appointed pastor from a church in the Midwest. The People s
Temple was founded in 1955 by Jim Jones, he created the church to create equality in races and
help other people in need. Jones wanted to create a communist community where everyone was in
accord and everyone worked together. When Jones moved his people to Guyana, South America, he
managed to get exactly what he wanted. The people called this new community Jonestown, many
people loved this town, while others began to question the environment they lived in. Jonestown
was completely surrounded by jungles and armed guards that guarded the town. To leave Jonestown

Representative named Leo Ryan decided to go to Jonestown to see how things were there. He
brought a film crew with him and a few other people that wanted to see Jonestown as well.
Everything seemed to be going well until a member of Jonestown gave Ryan a note telling him
how bad they wanted to leave. It was then very obvious that the people were being held there
against their will. The next day as Ryan and the other s that came with him began to board the
plane to leave, they were attacked and killed by five people. Jones got very scared what would

called for all of his people to come together and he said they were no longer safe. He began to
explain to them that The United States would come to kill all of them and the only thing they
could do to save them was to kill themselves. Jones demanded them to drink Kool Aid mixed with
Cyanide and Valium. That day, November 18, 1978, 912 people died from drinking the poisoned
Kool Aid, while 276 of them were children. Jones was killed by a single shot into the head, but it is

Orthodontic Brace Case Study
Please accept this letter as Lola Gayton s appeal to Amerigroup s decision to deny coverage for
Orthodontic braces. It is my understanding based on your letter of denial dated April 6, 2017 that
this procedure has been denied based on a few reasons, the first being: Must be needed to protect
life, prevent significant illness or disability, or alleviate severe pain . Lola is in constant pain due
to her crowding of teeth; her gums are in pain to the point that she can only eat on the left side of
her mouth and she started to apply a wet cloth on the right side of her mouth to help eliminate the
throbbing pain that she was having. Her pain was affecting her at school and during her state FSA
testing she did not perform to her full potential due to her mouth/teeth discomfort. When it comes to
Lola s teeth pain affecting her daily functions of eating, and school work it is a major problem....

My understanding of this statement is Lola needs braces furthermore due to her extremely small
mouth and family history of using palate expanders, myself and her two older brothers used
them prior to braces, to make space. The palatal expander helps to widen the roof of the mouth
and expand the airway, helping Lola breathe. However, Lola s mouth is too small for the
expander and she needs to have two teeth removed prior to braces. Lola s small mouth and
added crowding caused her to need a lower lingual bar that was applied at age seven, and was in
place for three years. Lola snores and there is a family history of sleep apnea, the treatment of
orthodontic intervention can help snoring and possibly prevent the serious illness, sleep

It s unequivocally absurd. Zoltan Istvan. In both This Side of Paradise and This Beautiful and

The whole idea of rags to riches embodied the work ethic of the 1920s and previous decades as
the idyllic Golden Age of flappers and mobsters thrived. However, the ideology was flawed in
itself that people were striving for money and not happiness. The average American assumed that
happiness was money and were therefore obsessed with the culture of the attaining money. While
this was also mostly a time of attempted moral reinvigoration in the older generations, baring the
Prohibition and all, many would do whatever they could to get what they wanted, which in most
cases was money to buy nice things. Everyone s goal was to become extravagantly wealthy or to
die trying. The saddest part of it all is many went to the grave unable to fulfill their actually quite
impossible dream.
Fitzgerald presents these stories in the format of citizens who are already wealthy and actually
living the American Dream so as to make it more glamorous than having seen the grueling work
done by some close relative. This almost further empowers the culture of materialism as it sets the
scene, only to deplore it as the books go on. These people start out pampered and are presumed to
become even more wealthy and powerful but spiral downward as they fail to find happiness in their
lavish lifestyles.
In This Side of Paradise, this is exactly the case. In one aspect, Amory Blaine is already

No Arabic in and English Class
1.0 Introduction
According to the ministry of education in Kuwait it has always been a sin when teach ers use
Arabic in an English class, even if it is to clarify a certain aspect that students could not grasp.
Well, whether we like it or not, Learners of L2 tend to use L1 when learning the target language,
this argument has been proven by a number of re searchers (Atkinson, 1987; Auerbach, 1993;
Cook, 2001; Nation, 2003), and ignoring it or pretending that it is not happening might lead to
pedagogical implications.
Decision makers in ELT unit in the Ministry of Education, who adopt the notion that us ing Arabic
when teaching English is a taboo , have to hear the other voice that considers the use of L1 when
teaching L2 is very helpful and works to facilitate the learning process.
Hence, the current research comes to shed light on the importance of using L1 when teaching L2
and how we can utilise it and use it as a useful tool. Also this research will try to change the
common notion that using Arabic in English class is a deficiency.
1.1 Aims of the study
This study aims to provide a better understanding for the use of L1 when teaching L2, and how
this could be in the favour of facilitating the learning process for the students, and it should no
longer be a forbidden zone . The study also aims to high lights the improvements that could be
achieved by utilising Arabic in ELT class.

The Effects Of Sex Education On The Uk Essay
Sex education in the UK
The role of schools in providing information about sexual matters is much debated, with some
arguing that school based sex and relationships education (SRE) may accelerate the onset of sexual
activity and that parents should provide the information (giving them control over what is delivered
and when) (House of Commons Education Committee, 2015)
Published in the Department for Education and Employment (DFEE, 2000) biological elements of
sex education; puberty, reproduction, sexual transmitted infection must be taught to all pupils
through National Curriculum Science, which is compulsory in state maintained schools. In
addition state schools must teach the wider personal and social aspects of sex and relationships and
any state funded school that provide SRE must have due regard to the government guidance
(Department of Education, 2013). However, there is no statutory curriculum so schools are
encouraged to develop their own programs of study. Personal, social, health and economic education
(PSHE), which includes the broader aspects of relationships education, however is not statutory
(DFE, 2013)
There is evidence that receipt of SRE impacts positively on sexual behaviour and is associated
with positive sexual health outcomes (Kirby, Laris and Rolleri, 2007), because of this evidence in
2013, the Office for Standards in Education, Children s Services and Skills (Ofsted) were of the
view that SRE required improvement in over a third of British

huge contributions to politics in Egypt, through her skills in language and consequently of her
hundreds of followers and supporters. She was able to even entice some of the most important
people in history, such as Mark Antonyand Julius Caesar, and had relationships with other Roman
rulers such as Emperor Augustus. Her name was very well known in the ancient world as a
beautiful and skilled lady, and still is to this day. For these reasons, Cleopatra s reign as the last
queen of Egypt was unlike any other ruler of the ancient world, and her contributions and legacy
have left a lasting effect on the world, as we know it.
Cleopatra VII was the last ruler of the Ptolemaic dynasty, ruling Egypt from 51 BC 30 BC. She
was born in the Egyptian capital city of Alexandria in about 70 BCE, into the royal family that

The Autobiography Of Malcolm X
Do something about it. Everyone has problems from struggles in life. Malcolm X told his life
story of how he overcame in his autobiography simply called The Autobiography of Malcolm X
as told to Alex Haley. His life changed the world historically, socially, and especially politically
by taking a stand against racism of all kinds which still exists in today s modern standards. Using
his personal life experience with racism towards African Americans, Malcolm spreads the word on
equality for all with a realistic tone that inspires trust in him. Malcolm Xreaches all kinds of people
in an effort to voice his thoughts on equality for all using rhetorical and persuasive techniques
for a more effective message. From the beginning, the story Malcolm X tells uses a tone of
realism and relatability to establish a dominant impression upon the reader s mind. An example
of this tone is when Malcolm, at a young age, accepts his ultimate fate that had just befallen his
father. Malcolm tells Alex that It has always been my belief that I, too, will die by violence. I
have done all that I can to be prepared (4). The definitiveness he says this with is not an attempt at
making readers feel empathy for him, but to appealto logic by presenting this as a fact of the kind of
world he lives in. When Malcolm chooses to state die by violence (4) instead of describing what
kind of violence or with more emotion, he gets the reader past the emotional aspect of his belief

Evaluation Of The First Chapter
The first chapter introduced me to the various roles within OT. This includes activities that are
meaningful to a client. So, not only is OT helping with a problem, such as a broken wrist, but it
also helps break that down into different aspects that are utilized to regain function through tasks.
I didn t realize how much, or the depth OT actually went, and how many occupations there were
to cover. This chapter introduced me to just how diverse the clientele are in OT, and how much
creativity with a holistic approach in activities is used to help in a client s therapeutic treatment.
This chapter made me look positively toward my future in OT, with promise of it being a
rewarding journey. The second chapter gave me a history of where OT has evolved from. I
think this is an important chapter to review to show how OT has developed over the years from
people with many different backgrounds. I had no knowledge as to where OT had developed
from. These people didn t just go to school to be involved with OT they were creating the field
itself. I didn t gather that all the people were working together in a collaborative effort to make
OT a field of study. This chapter gives light to the discovery of different approaches and methods
ranging from the Arts and Crafts Movement and beginning of moral treatment for people from all
walks of life, to the progress to drugs being introduced and Acts being adopted into law to help
people who needed OT. Not only has the realization that people

Media Portrayal Of Islam Essay
The Media Portrayal of Islam
Islam is portrayed and is commonly accepted as the most violent and largest direct threat to the
West. This is a generalization made by most of the West, but it is not particularly the West or the
Islamic people s fault. There is constant turmoil in Islamic countries in the Middle East and these
conflicts are what make the news in the West. The only representation in the media that the Islamic
nation gets is that of war. Though most Islamic people are not violent, the select few that do
participate in terrorist groups give the rest of the Islam nation a bad image.

Middle East seem like the main interaction between the West and Middle East.
Ever since the bombing of the World Trade Centeron February 1993 the United States of America
has stepped up its commitment to stopping terrorism. The general public after the bombing also
took a new view on Islam, a negative one. The February 7 arrest of Ramzi Yousef made the

would increase genetic diversity and small populations, while others believe extinct animals should

As seen in The Case Against De Extinction: It s a Fascinating Dumb Idea the author stated right
now the biggest moral hazard on the environmental front is created by the folly of
geoengineering. To clarify the author is proving that de extinction is a huge moral hazard and
people question the ethics behind bioengineering. Society will begin to believe there is no point
in protecting species because if scientist have their DNA, then scientist can just recreate the
species. Recreating the species defeated the fact that the species originally had a problem as to
why they no longer exist. As seen in Case Against Species Revival , the author stated , why worry
about endangered species? We can just simply keep their DNA and put them back into the wild
later. If society has the power to decide whether a species lives or becomes extinct, its taking the
power away from nature and giving humans way too much, what will society do next? Recreate
people that have died? If the species became extinct there is a reason as to why the species did not
survive. So why society want to bring the species back into existence just for the same outcome to
occur. Society should not bring extinct animals back into

Some of the kids do not finish their projects and they have to take home an unfinished project. If
you do not know anything about building you will learn quick. Building hands on projects is

And, in my opinion, the Council of Trent was obviously one of the most, if not the most important

relationships with our artists and our consumers. A strong online presence will form the foundation
of the company and the form in which our products will be sold.

mainly via streaming such as Apple Music and Spotify. To get an idea of its popularity we can
see that in 2014, streaming usage increased by 39%, and in 2015, streaming officially took over
both downloads and CD sales. (RIAA, 2015) (IFPI, 2015, pp. 8 9) Starting a label in this present
time may be challenging. However, with an adaptable and versatile business plan and an intelligent

How Does Reality Tv Affect American Culture
On cable nowadays, whether you re watching a movie or a TV show, there are about four to five
minutes of commercials. Most commercials were seen on tv consist of new reality TV shows. If
not new, it could date back to the 1940 s. Although, the shows that were airing years ago were
much less indecent. It honestly seems that reality TV continues to go downhill. In this research
paper, I will be talking about the negative effects of reality televisionon its viewers and how it
affects the American culture of today s society.
People may disagree and say there are positive effects, I realize that. On the contrary, the negative
effects seem to outnumber the positive effects. Reality TV stars are becoming huge role models
with teenagers, rather parents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reality TV is most definitely a reflection on our society today. There are multiple ways it can
affect our daily lives. Whether you re watching episodes of a regular show or an episode of
reality TV, today we feel it is necessary to talk about it with the people we wouldn t normally
interact with. Many people are addicted to watching all types of shows, and the internet just
allows people to talk about it with different fans or peers. We allow these shows to take over
much more of our lives. In other countries, our reality TV shows make us seem ignorant. Most of
these shows don t give off a positive view of America s society. Thus, when other countries see
our reality TV shows that are real they are not having a positive feedback. Seems as if these
shows are driving younger people to become obsess with money and fame. Many people have
been one to say they would love to leave their chances of getting a good education if they could
just become a star on a reality television show and make lots of money. That just shows that it
makes young kids believe it s okay to be put onto a television show for some stupid reason to just
make money. Networks should be putting on educational reality television shows, thus showing
other countries that we are not as ignorant as we seem and maybe then reality shows will not be as
bad of an influence on

Convicts In America Essay
The transportation system that brought convicts into America was born out of new types and
record levels of crime in England. (pg. 6) The crowded streets and overcrowding of the cities
added to the increase in crime. England s law enforcement and criminal justice system were ill
equipped to handle the dramatic increase in crimes committed in the city. The English penal
system was in such a state of instability that new solutions had to be found for the increasing
numbers of felons. The city jails were so unhealthy and disease ridden, that many inmates died.
The localities also lacked sufficient funds to care for the convicts in the already overcrowded
prisons. Instead of spending money for more jails in order to accommodate more prisoners,... Show

While colonial governors and councils objected to the shipping of felons, repeated passage of
legislation for ending the process or for placing taxes or other restrictions on transportation were
overturned by the Board of Trade or other agents of the king, especially after 1718 s act of
transportation. The 1718 arrangement with Jonathan Forward, the first merchant to receive a
contract with the British treasury to ship convicts to America, was too profitable for the British
government to allow American colonies to put a stop to the

How a Bill Becomes a Law
In our country s government, Congress plays a major role in decision making. They re primary
role is to pass laws. These laws start off as bills. Bills can only be introduced by members of
Congress. Although these bills only come from Congressman, there are many people who
influence these bills. Such as the president, regular citizens, offices in the executive branch, and
many others. The bills right off the bat do not have a very good chance of passage. Only 1 out of
every 10 bills even gets any attention at all. This is because they must go through many tests and
hearings before they even have a chance of landing on the president s desk. These steps in a bill
becoming a law are very important, and make sure that all bills passed into law... Show more

Other than the fact that they have very little time to look over the legislation. The majority party
is probably the biggest problem will bills. If the majority party doesn t like it the chances of it
making it passed this stage are very little to slim. There are a couple ways to get the bill through
this stage anyway though in the house. The first would be by using what is called a discharge.
The only way for this to work though is to get a petition signed by most of the membership. This
will force the bill to the floor for action and debate. Discharges rarely ever happen though, as
most of the members of the committees have a mutual respect for the other committees. The
Senate does not use discharges. The only other way to get a bill passed after it has been killed at
this stage would be to reintroduce it. Then the bill would have to go back through the
committees and subcommittees to be passed as law. Sixth, the next part of the lawmaking
process is the floor debates. After the bill reaches the full chamber in the Senate and reaches the
rules committee in the house decisions are made. Either two things will happen here, the bill
will be scheduled for floor debates or it will be completely dropped. Usually bills that are able to
make it this far in the process are passed into law. Passing these bills is not as easy as it sounds.
Some bills cost members a lot just to get passed. Especially bills that have to do with spending.

The Latino Culture
The Latino culture takes a more monistic approach to the mind body problem. This may affect
the ways in which depression is experienced and expressed. For example, studies have found that
Latinos are more likely to express psychological distress in somatic terms such as lack of energy,
sleep disturbances, and body aches (Martinez Tyson, Castaneda, Porter, Quiroz, Carrion, 2011).
Additionally, studies find that Latinos are more likely to take a holistic approach to healing as
evidenced by the principle of mente sana en cuerpo sano y alma sana (healthy mind in healthy body
and healthy soul) which communicates the strong connection between mind, body, and soul
(Comas Diaz, 2006). This suggests that a purely physical approach to therapy may not be well
received by the Latino client, and is supported by studies showing Latino patients feel apprehensive
towards being treated with anti depressants even when they have positive attitudes towards
receiving treatment for depression(Cabassa, Lester, Zayas, 2007). Understanding the client s
perception of the self is important in diagnosing and treating depression. Therefore, an effective
therapist must be able to understand and incorporate the client s worldview throughout the
therapeutic process.

Rappers Vs Griots
Many argue that the past griot s and the rappers of today in Africa, are as different as an apple
and orange. *You have those who believe the foundation of both practices are one hundred
percent different. Everything that makes a griot who they are, is completely the opposite of
what shapes an African rapper. *On contrast, there are also those who presume that the message
and way of execution are the same for both lyracis. *The belief that the two are different, mostly
comes from those of older age, or who have a lineage of griots that backtrack throughout the
years. *While those who believe the opposite, are of younger age and have more modern day
experiences. So although socially, the African griot and rapper are on two different platforms, the
message and ways of expression are tantamount, however, the fundamentals are contrasting. As
time progressed and rappers begin to make appearances in the 1990 s, griots were still in full
effect. Just as the griots openly criticize politicians and protest the conditions of community, rappers
do the same. For example, if the issue was unemployment, it would be... Show more content on

*However, just like the modern day griot s (rappers), classic griots don t just sing, but they also
rap. So just as social issues and hymns are performed by the griot and the rapper, they are also
done in the style of rap. But of course, many rappers and griots in Africa sing to give a softer
approach to the audience. *For example, when singing about a particularly melancholy part of
African history, a song may be presented. This is also exercised by the rappers of Africa.
However, sometimes just as a camera tell a thousand word, so does an instrument. The emotion
and force that goes into playing can tell a full story. The principle is completely understood by the
griots and rapper of the past and the

Through Critical Analysis Of Pope Paul Vi’S Encyclical
Through critical analysis of Pope Paul VI s encyclical regarding artificial birth control, it is
possible to infer his views on Natural Law and God s Plan and then translate this to modern issues
regarding embryonic research. Because of his strong adherence to Catholic values, his approach to
artificial birth control as related to embryonic stem cellresearch would refuse to fully contemplate
utilitarian and deontological approaches to embryonic stem cellresearch. Thus, his views are
incompatible with a modernizing and secularizing society.
1970 marked the beginning of modern scientific research of embryonic stem cells. It was during
this year that physiologist Robert G. Edwards at the University of Cambridge first fertilized human

In view of this fact, many believe that ontological individuality starts at this point, hence the embryo
can be used for research prior to this stage; up to 14 days of development (Stem Cells Ethical and
Religious Issues). At first, this 14 day rule posed few problems as researchers could not cultivate
embryos longer than six days, which marked the implantation of cells undergoing IVF. After day
six, embryos would die leaving scientists with no data recording embryonic growth during days
seven through fourteen. Scientists deduced that the embryos would die before the fourteen days
due to a lack of a nurturing environment, which they then proceeded to manufacture and utilize
throughout embryonic stem cell research during the first fourteen days. These advancements in
stem cell research prompted scientists to host the idea of extending the point at which stem cell
research is permissible as scientists discovered evidence that point towards this possibility. These
advancements also paved the way for discoveries such as SHEEFS, or synthetic human entities with
embryolike features, which are artificial embryos that are not fertilized through traditional
biological fertilization. Although currently only a small conglomeration of cells, SHEEFS are seen
as the first steps towards what may develop into far more complex

Theme Of Manipulation In Othello
Manipulation is the controlling by artful, unfair, or insidious means especially to one s own
advantage. In the play Othello by William Shakespeare, Iago uses manipulation to procure what he
wants. The story of Othello is about a man named Othello, who married a the virtuous Desdemona.
Othello and Desdemonaare madly in love and have already overcame many obstacles to be
together, much to the dismay of Roderigo. A man who longed for Desdemona, and consistently
chased after her. He was overlooked for a high position in the army and had heard rumors that
Othellohas slept with his wife Emilia. For these crimes, man named Iagois out to destroy Othello s
life. Iago deceives many people and through his subtle actions, kills Othello and... Show more

To be sure that Othello would be the one charged with murder when the time came about, he told
othello to strangle her rather than poison her. With her strangled in her own bed, the killer
would be obvious to discern, unlike poisoning her, which would be more difficult to prove. Iago
knew othello would jump at this idea as well. He knew that this act was one of revenge and the
best way to get said revenge was to kill her where she had betrayed him.
Iago manipulates Roderigo. Othello has told Iago to murder Cassio. Iago then turns to Roderigo
to do his dirty work. He says to Roderigo, If you will watch his going thence, which I will fashion
to fall out between twelve and one, you may take him at your pleasure: I will be near to second
your attempt, and he shall fall between us. Come, stand not amazed at it, but go along with me;
I will show you such a necessity in his death that you shall think yourself bound to put it on him
(4. 2. 235 242). Iago was more than well informed by roderigo himself about how much he was
willing to sacrifice for Desdemona. He even has mentioned killing himself over her. Iago uses
this to his advantage when he implies that to be with Desdemona, Roderigo has to kill Cassio.
Additionally, if Cassio is killed it will only prove himself more veritable in othello s eyes, which is
exactly what he needs at all times to ensure that his plot will go through.
At the very end of it all, Iago was a master

Jimmy Carter Literature Review
Jimmy Carter was a very avid Christian before, during and after his time in office. He is
commonly acknowledged of being one of the most religious presidents in history. The purpose
of this literature review is to give an overview of how academia interprets Carter s religiosity.
Berggren and Rae (2006) describe Carter as an Evangelical style president with a strong
devotion to his corresponding Evangelical Faith. He is referred to being the born again
president. Carter had a born again experience during his pre presidential life which supports he
was evangelist during this part of his life. In this experience, he questioned his faith after a failed
attempt to become governor. It wasn t until his sister, a devout evangelist, spoke to and
convinced him that he had not fully dedicated himself to God, that he had a born again
realization and devoted himself to Christ. Carter s Evangelical Faith is further supported by him
referencing himself as born again and saying, I believe God wants me to be the best politician I
can be (Lindsay, 2007). Lindsay s article also reasons that at the beginning of his presidency
Carter had a high rate of evangelical approval because these people could easily connect with like
minded president. Carter s evangelism religiosity is demonstrated by these two sources before and
during his early administration but gives no insight into how might have changed during and after
his presidency. Preston (2012, 575) expands on Carter s evangelical

The Quiet American
Fallujah s End
Sunday 20th April 2004 Afghanistan.
It has not always been like this. There was once peace in this land, though peace is now naught
but a faded memory. When I first came here, i only saw the smiles of the kids in the streets just
kicking a ball or running around. Now what I see is half broken roads with half or completely
destroyed buildings with possibly invisible bombs around the roads. Instead of travelling around
this city in a taxi, I have to travel in a goddamn Humvee. 6 years ago it was, when I first landed
here in a plane, being forced to come here to negotiate with the government of Afghanistan with that
of mine, USA that is.

It was only 7 o clock. I took a cold shower, since the time I have been here in this country; I have
only taken 2 hot showers. Sure, at first it was the worst thing to do during a day, now its normal,
suited to my lifestyle.
By the chattering and shouting I heard in the morning, seems as though Chris hadn t come back
last night. That had settled my plan for today as I planned to go search the city to find him. Even
though he was different, narrow minded and wanted different things, he was still my friend in a
way, I think...
Chris s special ops team had tried to search for him all day, but still no clue as to where he would
be. As for me I had been going in around the buildings and saw one of the most horrible sights,
which I could never forget. Literally, an army of dead bodies situated in the middle of the road. If
I had remembered correctly, this had been the route I had taken to come to the air base. These
bodies were not here before. This must have happened last night. Unconsciously, I had started to
suspect Chris of being responsible for something like this.
It was close to midnight, I had searched for Chris all day. It seemed as though he s completely
disappeared. Obviously the search team would have searched this city inside out by now.
Suddenly, I had heard a loud voice, as if they had been screaming at the top of their lungs.
Hey!
I turned around to where the voice

on the question what did I do to deserve to be locked up in a place like this? Then I remember my

The Intellect Organism Of The Ecosystem Essay
Something that many people might not know is that we humans, are made up of organisms and
we also are the intellect organism of the ecosystem. Since we are the intellect organism, this
makes us responsible for the survival of nature and ecosystem. A lot of this generation has
forgotten about our ancestors who once lived like all other animals in ecosystem. These
ancestors would hunt for food and rely on the land for water, shelter and other basic needs.
Nevertheless, with time men have evolved and slowly distance themselves from nature. We
seem to now think we no longer need nature or ecosystem for survival. On the contrary, we only
exist because of nature and ecosystem. Society needs to acknowledge this and start working
towards ways to incorporate ecosystem in our daily lives as an essential; one way we can start
is by conserving one of earth s most valuable natural resource, water. What is the one thing
humans, plants, and animals all have in common? We all need water in order to survive. Water
is essential for the growth of greenery and it keeps all mammals bodies working properly.
Mammals bodies cannot survive without water for more than ten days. Water is, in the blood,
which carries oxygen to all the tiny cells in the body, without these cells the body will shut down.
Water also helps with the digestive system to digest the food we eat and the removal of waste
through urine and bowel movements. More than one billion people on Earth already lack access to

The Four Major Perspectives Of Populism
Theoretical Framework
As introduced in the previous chapter, it is difficult to consistently describe populism and
compare it as a system of ideas qua ideas. Therefore, this chapter follows Roberts four main
perspectives of populism: historical/sociological, economic, ideological and political perspectives
(Roberts, 1995). In fact, all four perspectives have interrelated elements as seen below. historical
/sociological perspective
Germani et al. argue that populism is directly linked to a particular economic transformation phase
from agrarian societies to industrial societies since 1930s (Germani, Di Tella, Ianni, 1973). New
economic development model of 1930s; namely import substituting industrialization (ISI), leads to

  • 2. Essay about Wuthering Heights and Romantic Ascent Martha Nussbaum describes the romantic ascent of various characters in Wuthering Heights through a philosophical Christian view. She begins by describing Catherine as a lost soul searching for heaven, while in reality she longs for the love of Heathcliff. Nussbaum continues by comparing Heathcliff as the opposition of the ascent from which the Linton s hold sacred within their Christian beliefs. Nussbaum makes use of the notion that the Christian belief in Wuthering Heightsis both degenerate and way to exclude social classes. To begin Catherine attempts to find heaven as way to soothe her emotion, but discovers her heart belongs to something else. That something else is Heathcliff, who also finds life on earth a tortuous and difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However the paradox continues because their love cannot ascend to its ultimate form, as each will refuse their love by the social desires of the time. Nussbaum also establishes a conflict between the fundamental Christian world of the Lintons, and the chaotic world of Heathcliff. The distinction is clearly drawn as a virtuous and companionate world in which the Linton s live, while Heathcliff is drawn to immoral and devious actions. The author does not however see it this simple. The superficial piteous world is in fact shadowed by a shallow a fake ideal of life. Even Catherine realizes the forged environment in which the Linton s live, as she explains, in whichever place the soul lives. In my soul and in my heart, I m convinced I m wrong. Even though Heathcliff is portrayed as a demonic figure, he also is shown as the romantic Christina lover. This love is the driving force behind his urge to fight against what is expected of him. Both the Linton s and Heathcliff are not given the satisfaction of becoming the portrait for the ideal Christian. The novel also goes on to comment on Christianity as both imperfect and dubious school of thought. In the first instance the most pious characters including the Lintons, Ellen Dean, and Joseph all behave in direct contradiction of their belief. They act selfishly and look no further than for their own superficial world. Bronte at least gives Heathcliff a justified method ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. John Dower s War Without Mercy Japanese were perceived as animals, reptiles, or insects (monkeys, baboons, gorillas, dogs, mice and rats, vipers and rattlesnakes, cockroaches, vermin or, more indirectly the Japanese herd and the like)... at the simplest level, they dehumanized the Japanese and enlarged the chasm between us and them to the point where it was perceived to be virtually unbridgeable. (Dower 81 82) John Dower, the writer of War Without Mercy, focused part of his book on the way the Japanese in American culture were viewed by the public and the other part on the way the Americans were viewed by the Japanese in their culture. Each chapter in Dower s book is titled in a way so that they describe how the Japanese and Americans were viewed by each other s culture. During WWII the Japanese were not the only culture that was viewed poorly, the Americans were also viewed very poorly while in the Japanese public culture. Race played a very large role in the war in the Pacific during WWII. The Japanese were identified with animals most commonly apes or vermin; and the Americans were identified as demons by the Japanese. • 4. Evaluating Alice s Goals Of Pay Off Student Loan Introduction Goals are vital in any financial planning process to be successful. For goals to be truly useful, they must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely ( Siegel Yacht, 2009). As personal circumstances change and the economy as a whole also changes, there is the need to make or plan goals flexible that can easily adjust according to each situation. This paper will use the S.M.A.R.T planning model to evaluate Alice s goals of; pay off student loan, buy a house and save for children s education, accumulate assets, retire, and travel around the world in a sailboat. Defining Alice s goals: To better define Alice s goals, these goals must be divided into short term, intermediate, and long term goals. We know that Alice s goals are to pay off student loan, buy a house and save for children s education, accumulate assets, retire, and to travel around the world in a sailboat. Considering that Alice source of income is only through wages or salary, Alice goals must therefore classified accordingly. Directed by David Fincher and released in 2010, it is an informative film which attempts to shed light on the real story behind the creation and rise of Facebook, starting from the beginning and revealing all the possibly hidden or not as well known facts behind it. The movie opens up on a scene when Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, is dumped by his girlfriend Erica Albright after an argument. From this moment, a long chain of events is set into motion that ultimately lead to the success of one of the most prominent and influential social media sites in internet and communication history. There were also the revolutions from above, for example, the actions of the Peruvian military and the elected government of Salvador Allende. These revolutions held out new hope for a few years until both came to abrupt ends. The most visible results, by the end of 1979, of two decades of tried revolution and reform were the antirevolutionary regimes that ruled nearly half of Latin America s population and its most developed countries. (Wright, p. 165) Wright concludes the book with a mention of series of developments in the early 1990 s that signaled the end of the era of the Cuban Revolution. The fall of the communist regimes, between 1989 and 1991, in Eastern Europe and then the collapse of the Soviet Union deprived Cuba of its primary allies and critical economic support. (Wright, ... The Jet Black Flea Figurative Language The Jet Black Flea: A Language Analysis of John Donne s The Flea The cultural outlook toward the venereal desires shared by the population during the 17th century was essentially one of abstinence until marriage. In his poem The Flea , John Donne establishes an imagined debate regarding chastity and the mortal yearning between lovers. A scholar witnessing this debate in a modern social landscape characterized by a difference in values regarding pre marital sex may have difficulty understanding the sentiment behind The Flea and must begin with an investigation of the contemporary language used throughout. • 17. All that Heaven Allows by Douglas Sirk In the 1950 s the melodrama genre came to age and there is no better example than Douglas Sirk s All that Heaven Allows. The melodrama followed some basic characteristics which can be identified in the film. First and foremost the narrative of the melodrama focused on the family. All that Heaven Allows follows the narrative of the typical melodrama but at the same time also challenges the social conventions. While Sirk follows many of the key themes he does so in a more detached fashion. The protagonist Cary is bound to her community by her social class. Change was occurring in society and the melodrama displayed people s restraint to this. In All that Heaven Allows Sirk began his focus on the female and her desires in contrast to the more conservative male focused melodrama. As with the melodrama the legibility of the story, displayed through the plot, is simple and easy to follow. Our engagement with the story depends on our understanding of the pattern of change and stability, cause and effect, time and space (Bordwell and Thompson, 2008). The linear time flow of the filmallows for it s simple understanding. This is added to by the expressiveness of the melodrama, where everything is brought into the open and nothing is left unsaid. The expressiveness of the melodrama is also represented in the highly expressive mise en scene. Sirks use of colour, the human figure, camera work, lighting and music allow him to portray suppressed meaning and significance. (b) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first would be by using what is called a discharge. The only way for this to work though is to get a petition signed by most of the membership. This will force the bill to the floor for action and debate. Discharges rarely ever happen though, as most of the members of the committees have a mutual respect for the other committees. The Senate does not use discharges. The only other way to get a bill passed after it has been killed at this stage would be to reintroduce it. • 46. The Latino Culture The Latino culture takes a more monistic approach to the mind body problem. This may affect the ways in which depression is experienced and expressed. For example, studies have found that Latinos are more likely to express psychological distress in somatic terms such as lack of energy, sleep disturbances, and body aches (Martinez Tyson, Castaneda, Porter, Quiroz, Carrion, 2011). Additionally, studies find that Latinos are more likely to take a holistic approach to healing as evidenced by the principle of mente sana en cuerpo sano y alma sana (healthy mind in healthy body and healthy soul) which communicates the strong connection between mind, body, and soul (Comas Diaz, 2006). This suggests that a purely physical approach to therapy may not be well received by the Latino client, and is supported by studies showing Latino patients feel apprehensive towards being treated with anti depressants even when they have positive attitudes towards receiving treatment for depression(Cabassa, Lester, Zayas, 2007). Understanding the client s perception of the self is important in diagnosing and treating depression. Therefore, an effective therapist must be able to understand and incorporate the client s worldview throughout the therapeutic process. • 53. The Quiet American Fallujah s End Sunday 20th April 2004 Afghanistan. It has not always been like this. There was once peace in this land, though peace is now naught but a faded memory. When I first came here, i only saw the smiles of the kids in the streets just kicking a ball or running around. Now what I see is half broken roads with half or completely destroyed buildings with possibly invisible bombs around the roads. Instead of travelling around this city in a taxi, I have to travel in a goddamn Humvee. 6 years ago it was, when I first landed here in a plane, being forced to come here to negotiate with the government of Afghanistan with that of mine, USA that is. They call me the Mr. Negotiator as apparently I can negotiate with other people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was only 7 o clock. I took a cold shower, since the time I have been here in this country; I have only taken 2 hot showers. Sure, at first it was the worst thing to do during a day, now its normal, suited to my lifestyle. By the chattering and shouting I heard in the morning, seems as though Chris hadn t come back last night. That had settled my plan for today as I planned to go search the city to find him. Even though he was different, narrow minded and wanted different things, he was still my friend in a way, I think... Chris s special ops team had tried to search for him all day, but still no clue as to where he would be. As for me I had been going in around the buildings and saw one of the most horrible sights, which I could never forget. Literally, an army of dead bodies situated in the middle of the road. If I had remembered correctly, this had been the route I had taken to come to the air base. These bodies were not here before. This must have happened last night. Unconsciously, I had started to suspect Chris of being responsible for something like this. It was close to midnight, I had searched for Chris all day. It seemed as though he s completely disappeared. Obviously the search team would have searched this city inside out by now. Suddenly, I had heard a loud voice, as if they had been screaming at the top of their lungs. Hey! I turned around to where the voice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The World Of The East Coast Of Massachusetts The rooms were confined to themselves by a large metal door with a small slot about 5 feet from the floor that could only be opened from the outside. The walls were once a brilliant white, but now filled with the scratch marks and blood stains from the ones before me. The room stench of urine, most likely from the other patients. All there was in the room was a small cot with a mattress so thin, it almost looked as if it was a thin piece of plywood. As I laid there strapped to my bed by leather restraints that were made to protect me from myself, I kept pondering on the question what did I do to deserve to be locked up in a place like this? Then I remember my crime, and smile. This perdition of a world I was living in was the Brookside... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They think that pills and shock therapy can cure the sickness inside my head, but one thing is for sure; I will never modificate. I like the way I am too much to be changed. I am a monster and I adore it. Not much happened the first month happened the first month inside the asylum, just the periodic routine I followed: Eat breakfast with the other patients, take my morning pills, be given an hour of electroconvulsive therapy, swig down more pills, then listen to music for an hour or two and finally be tested by the nurses there. A very basic routine, one that I very easily got in the habit of following. Being a young man, the age of 24 at the time, I tried to keep to myself most of the time and did not associate with the other patients for they were too decrepitated and insane for my likings. On the fiftieth day I was at the mental institution, my usual routine abruptly was broken. I was listening to my favorite song, Heureux Tous Les Deux by Frank Alamo, three of the health care workers walked into my room with the director of the hospital, Dr. James Roxton. Dr. Roxton, a very serious man, was in a furious manner and screamed at me In all this time since you ve been in my care, you have not improved! Not even the slightest! It is time to escalate your therapy. What are you going to do... I was saying as they ripped me away from the old cassette player in my room. They threw me onto the metal table they brought with them into the room and restrained me down ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Intellect Organism Of The Ecosystem Essay Something that many people might not know is that we humans, are made up of organisms and we also are the intellect organism of the ecosystem. Since we are the intellect organism, this makes us responsible for the survival of nature and ecosystem. A lot of this generation has forgotten about our ancestors who once lived like all other animals in ecosystem. These ancestors would hunt for food and rely on the land for water, shelter and other basic needs. Nevertheless, with time men have evolved and slowly distance themselves from nature. We seem to now think we no longer need nature or ecosystem for survival. On the contrary, we only exist because of nature and ecosystem. Society needs to acknowledge this and start working towards ways to incorporate ecosystem in our daily lives as an essential; one way we can start is by conserving one of earth s most valuable natural resource, water. What is the one thing humans, plants, and animals all have in common? We all need water in order to survive. Water is essential for the growth of greenery and it keeps all mammals bodies working properly. Mammals bodies cannot survive without water for more than ten days. Water is, in the blood, which carries oxygen to all the tiny cells in the body, without these cells the body will shut down. Water also helps with the digestive system to digest the food we eat and the removal of waste through urine and bowel movements. More than one billion people on Earth already lack access to ... • 56. The Four Major Perspectives Of Populism Theoretical Framework As introduced in the previous chapter, it is difficult to consistently describe populism and compare it as a system of ideas qua ideas. Therefore, this chapter follows Roberts four main perspectives of populism: historical/sociological, economic, ideological and political perspectives (Roberts, 1995). In fact, all four perspectives have interrelated elements as seen below. historical /sociological perspective Germani et al. argue that populism is directly linked to a particular economic transformation phase from agrarian societies to industrial societies since 1930s (Germani, Di Tella, Ianni, 1973). New economic development model of 1930s; namely import substituting industrialization (ISI), leads to urbanization and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 8). ...
