Free Cash Flow
Free cash flow
In corporate finance, free cash flow (FCF) is cash flow available for distribution among all the
securities holders of an organization. They include equity holders, debt holders, preferred stock
holders, convertible security holders, and so on.
G. Bennett Stewart the economic model of value holds that share prices are determined by just two
things: the cash to be generated over the lifetime of a business and the risk of the cash receipts .
GSB (1990), The Quest for Value
FCF is the cashflow generated by a company s operations that is free, or net, of the new capital
invested for growth. Imagine all a company s cash receipts are deposited in a cigar box, and that all of
its cash operating outlays are taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first is the accounting for the consumption of capital goods. The Net Income measure uses
depreciation, while the Free Cash Flow measure uses last period s net capital purchases. Measurement
Type | Component | Advantage | Disadvantage | Free Cash Flow | Prior period net investment spending
| Spending is in current dollars | Capital investments are at the discretion of management, so spending
may be sporadic. | Net Income | Depreciation charge | Charges are smoothed, related to cumulative
prior purchases | Allowing for typical 2% inflation per year, equipment purchased 10 years ago for
$100 would now cost about $122. With 10 year straight line depreciation the old machine would have
an annual depreciation of $10, but the new, identical machine would have depreciation of $12.2, or
22% more. |
The second difference is that the Free Cash Flow measurement deducts

Becoming Transgender In The United States
n these past few years we have seen a great deal of change in the United States. From the legalization
of gay marriage, and or the legalization of marijuana. These are things that people in the past would
think are things that should not be legalized but times change. Lately, many people not in conform
with their biological gender have been becoming the opposite sex, a transgender. Some of the most
recent well known cases of becoming transgender have to be Bruce Jenner and Rodrigo Heng song of
republican senator, Ileana Ros Lehtinen. All this talk brings up the question of whether sex is a
psychological thing, or an anatomical thing. I believe that sex is an anatomical thing and I also believe
that becoming transgender can bring negative effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I can say this from experience because I have seen transgender people at stores, and all they do is stare
at me. It gets to the point where I just want to leave because they make me so uncomfortable. I recall
going to ,my locker about a month ago with my friend during fifth period. As we were going back to
our classroom, a girl walks by and naturally a teenage boy will look at her body. I told my friend, she
is kind of hot , to which he replied, you do know she is transgender? I was pretty much socked and
was really condues. Now I have no problem with her but what she did was uncomfortable. As she
passed between us, she was lifting her shirt and touching her but. I was uncomfortable because I tend
to see women as people who are respectful and don t do that kind of stuff. The girl did = not show any
private parts but she did make me uncomfortable. This brings me to the article, when a lawsuit in
Minnesota was placed. The transgender which is labeled, Student X , was lifting her clothes and
asking to trade body parts. Obviously this would make her peers uncomfortable. What makes it all the
,most weird, is that people consider what this girl did as something all girls do. While some girls may
dance inappropriately, I am almost positive girls don t talk about trading body

Effects Of Une-Con Mussolini
The Italian fascist regime between the years 1922 to 1943 provoked many changes in areas such as
education, religion, foreign influence and culture. In the film Un Tè Con Mussolini, Zeffirelli attempts
to advocate certain implications to the viewers by purposely choosing to either conceal or reveal many
of these transitions and their effects on the different sectors of Italian society. For instance, although
the central character Luca is presented to have some form of schooling the film fails to address any of
the educational procedures that the Prime Minister put in place in order to eliminate illiteracy and
allow for all children to attain a decent education. Instead of highlighting the success in this part of the
regime, Zeffirelli rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the film we see this reality in how after mid 1940 when Italy declared war on Britain and France it
was a dangerous time to be Jewish, as there were spies that would denounce them to the fascist
authorities. In addition, like Elsa, Jews who were looking for a way out the country were often
deceived and had their valuables and capital stolen, as there was an attitude similar to that of Nazi
Germany in which people believed that the Jews through scheme managed to have power and
manipulate areas of finance and politics. (127) However, what Un Tè Con Mussolini doesn t show is
that many fascists were Jews themselves and that Mussolini was never a complete anti Semite
devotee, for many people whom he admired and worked with were Jewish too, such as Margherita
Sarfatti, his long time mistress and propaganda manager. (Paul, C.E. Zaczek) In addition, to further
show his detestation towards Mussolini, the movie withholds that part of the reason why the dictator
implemented the anti Semitic policy of 1938, was due to the fact that he was under pressure to please
Hitler and gain Germany s support in Abyssinia.(115) The reason as to why Zeffirelli chooses to
conceal this is rather unclear, as it is a piece of evidence that slightly lessens Mussolini s malice and
shows a different side to him. However, through this portrayal what can be held true for certain is that
one of the director s main aims is to persuade the audience of Il Duce s

Labels distinguish individuals in everyday life; if 2000 people from across the world were randomly
selected and put into categories of hair colour, none of them would share exactly the same shade of
colour. Despite this continuity humans still continue to assign each other to discrete hair colour
categories such as blonde or brown which have no basis in biology but still go on to determine how
that person is thought of in society. The American Psychology Association (APA) provides guidelines
for researchers to follow in both research and writing scientifically in order to avoid any form of
labelling bias when referring to participants or groups of participants. These guidelines are in place to

Boroditsky, Wade, Wu, Frank, Witthoft and Winawer (2007) established the importance of precision in
labels by studying the difference in response between English and Russian speakers in distinguishing
similar but subtle different shades of blue. In Russian there are many words for blue as they divide the
spectrum into lighter blues goulboy and darker blues siniy but in English there is only one single word
for the colour blue. Due to this difference the Russian speakers were quicker to distinguish between
the colours as they had readily available labels unlike the English speakers.
Labels have the ability to control more then just conscious perception but they can also change how
we perceive more complex things like people subconsciously. Jennifer Eberhardt (2003) showed white
college students pictures of a man who was racially ambiguous. For half of the students the face was
described as white and for the other half he was described as black . In one task the experimenter
asked the students to spend four minutes drawing the face while it was on the screen in front of them.
Although all the students were looking at the same face, those who were told that the face belonged to
a specific race tended to draw the face with typical stereotype features associated with that race. This
demonstrated that the students were unable to identify the subject as a individual after the label of his
race was assigned to him.

Antibiotic Resistance
Introduction
This article is about the determination of Antibiotic resistance that relies on the fitness effects of
resistance elements in the absence of antibiotics. Angst and Hall tentatively developed rifampicin
resistant and delicate Escherichia coli in drug free environment, before measuring the impacts of new
resistance components on fitness in antibiotic free conditions. Streptomycin resistance changes had
little fitness impacts in rifampicin resistant genotypes that had adjusts to antibiotic free environment ,
contrasted with the same genotypes without acclimatization. They watched a comparative impact
when resistance was encoded by a plasmid. Antibiotic sensitive microorganisms that acclimated to the
same conditions indicated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Resistant microorganisms obtain extra helpful changes throughout advancement without antibiotic s
that don t modify resistance straightforwardly however may change the fitness impacts of new
resistance transformations (Angst and Hall, 2013). It is critical that researchers study this theme on the
grounds that fitness impacts of resistance transformations frequently fluctuate relying upon the
vicinity of other resistance changes on the same genome. Furthermore, it is likewise essential to study
this issue so as to minimize the development of microbes into antibiotic resistant superbugs that could
conceivably make a worldwide health crisis.
Methods
The researchers theory is that antibiotic resistance goes through extra valuable transformations
throughout development without antibiotic s that don t adjust resistance specifically however may
change the fitness impacts of new resistance changes. They saw that later work prescribes: fitness
impacts of resistance transformations regularly differ relying upon the vicinity of other resistance
changes on the same genome, yet they also realized that, resistance evolution will frequently be joined
by the obsession of fixation of additional mutations that don t argue resistance however expand fitnes.
One experiment that they did to test their hypothesis was to tentatively advance

Mitochondria and Chloroplasts Descended from Free-living...
Mitochondria (mt) provide critical function in (a) maintenance of cellular energy supplies, i.e.,
thermoregulation and synthesis of essential molecules (such as phospholipids and heme); (b) apoptosis
or programmed cell death; and (c) mediating multiple cellular signaling pathways (Ryan and
Hoogenraad 2007). It is widely accepted that mitochondria and chloroplasts descended from free
living bacterial ancestors (Dyall et al. 2004). Following their acquisition by eukaryotic cells during
endosymbiotic evolution, most of the genes in these organelles were either lost or transferred to the
nucleus. Today, it is demonstrated that from all mitochondrial proteins (over 1500) most of them (93
99%) are encoded in the nucleus, synthesized in the cytoplasm and then imported into the organelles
(Woodson and Chory 2008). For instance, human mtDNA only contains 37 genes and codes for 13
encoding polypeptides, 22 tRNAa, and 2 rRNAs (Ryan and Hoogenraad 2007). The relationship
between organelles and the nucleus is continually evolving to suit an organism s needs. Based on the
above mentioned close relationship, a strict communication between mitochondria, chloroplasts and
the nucleus is indispensible. Hundreds of genetic diseases in humans and thousands of phenotypic
variations in plants and other organisms are known to be the result of alterations affecting nuclear
mitochondrial (NM) communication. These communication mechanisms include both nucleus to
organelle (antrograde) and organelle

Essay on Ernest Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls
In Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls, the recurring images of the horse and the airplane illustrate
one of the major themes of the novel. The novel s predominant theme is the disintegration of the
chivalric order of the Old Spanish World, as it is being replaced by the newer technology and ideology
of the modern world. As a consummate artist, Hemingway, in a manner illustrating the gothic quality
of his work, allows the bigger themes of For Whom the Bell Tolls to be echoed in the smaller units.
He employs the tropes of the horse and the airplane to convey these larger themes, while at the same
time using them to comment upon the complex relationship that exists between the Spaniards Fascists
and Communists, alike and religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have abandoned religion, as they have become disillusioned by it, and, therefore, have no
mechanism for atonement. Stemming from their close attachment to the chivalric ideal of equality in
battles, the Spanish have absolutely no conception of modern warfare, until the planes begin invading
their land. They view war as a match of equals, wherein a lone soldier can look his enemy in the eye
as they battle, but, instead, they are forced to come to grips with the horrors of modern warfare.
The planes are representative of the modern mechanical accomplishments that have emerged, which
can replace the chivalric, soldier of the Old World. With the emergence of such technologies, and the
influx of new ideologies, not only has the religion, once integral to chivalry, become obsolete, but the
people, too, have become dispensable. Gone forever is the almost sacred element of one on one
battles; the planes have eradicated these chivalric ideals, by replacing them with a brand of never
before seen mass destruction. In effect, the new ideologies have become the new religion; they have
replaced the Church, just as the new mechanisms, such as planes, and mass warfare have replaced the
chivalric ideals of the medieval world.
The meaning of the horse and airplane images can be illuminated through an exploration of Chapter
27, which conveys, without a doubt, their significance. One of the very first

Research Paper On Bitcoins
What are Bitcoins and How do They Work? Unlike dollars and Euros, bitcoins are wholly virtual.
They are being touted as substitutes for normal currencies in the years to come. This is evidenced by
the growing number of organizations and business establishments that are accepting cryptocurrencies.
Bitcoins are the most popular cryptocurrencies. This virtual currency was created in 2009 by a
mysterious figure only identifiable as Nakamoto Satoshi. His true identity has never been known.
Bitcoins have appreciated in value from the cents they were worth in 2009 to the current of $20,000
apiece in December 2017. Bitcoins are decentralized as they are not regulated by any central authority.
It represents a peer to peer method of payment where a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The number of bitcoins that you will be able to buy will depend on the prevailing value of bitcoins on
that specific day. Once you have made an order for the purchase of bitcoins, this is information is
stored in a public ledger. On this ledger, the balance on each wallet address is publicly displayed. This
helps ensure that there is transparency in the buying and selling. After buying the virtual currency, you
can then use it to transact online. You can spend it on companies that accept bitcoins as a medium of
payment. Alternatively, you can just buy the currency and wait for it to appreciate then sell it for a
profit. All the information regarding the purchase and the selling of cryptocurrencies is stored in a
block chain. What this technology does is to confirm that the individual or organization spending the
virtual currency owns them. This helps in prevention of double spending and fraud. Pros of Bitcoins
The use of this virtual currency has several advantages. For instance, being the first cryptocurrency in
the market, it enjoys the first mover advantage. It s always ahead of other currencies such as Litecoin,
Ripple and Dash. Another advantage with bitcoins is that its supply is fixed. That means that it will
never be subjected to inflation. The value will keep increasing due to the increased demand but fixed
supply. Since its operations are decentralized, transacting in cryptocurrencies costs less and the lead
times are shorter. The transactions are

Immigration Laws And The United States
Immigration laws have resulted in a situation where many illegal immigrants live and work in the
United States. Yet, it is an important issue that has been blown out of proportion by the media and
politicians. Here in the United States, Syrian refugees have enriched our cultural growth into a more
diverse and positive outcome and have enhanced our influence in the World. However, Americans
have responded to their arrival with violence and hate towards them.
In the late 19th century, the Arab world was under the Ottoman Empire. The United States chose to
classify this certain group as Arab immigrants along with others that were under this empire including
Turks, Greeks, and Armenians. Despite that the ruling Ottoman authority was Islamic, they were seen
as Turks and the vast majority were Christians. At the turn of the twentieth century, Arabs became
more associated with being Muslim and Syrians were labeled as Christians, which is why Syrians
were seen as more favorable. In the 1900s, the Chinese Exclusion Act identified those who were
considered white or not. This was important because once stated that a person is White , they can
become a naturalized citizen. According to Encyclopedia of Race, Ethnicity, and Society, Richard T.
Schaefer says, In 1914 George Dow was denied U.S. citizenship by a judge on the grounds that he
could not satisfy the prerequisite of being a free White person. The decision was reversed based on the
argument that Syrians were in fact members

Friendship In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Various people refer to a friendship as a violin. The music may stop every now and then, but most
importantly, the strings last forever. A friendship may have its ups and downs, but a true friendship
should never perish. John Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men illustrates the importance of a close
friendship, and the dependability that comes along with that relationship. Thomas Aquinas, an Italian
philosophers, wisely said, There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than a true friendship
(Aquinas). Steinbeck s text supports Aquinas idea through the powerful friendship between George
and Lennie. A dependable friendship makes a strong relationship. Lennie depends on George to make

If a person is honest with his or her friend, then the friends would have complete trust and
dependability in each other. In chapter three, George says, Used to play jokes on im cause he was too
dumb to take care of himself...he was so nice to me...I ain t done nothing like that no more
(Steinbeck). Lennie and George are completely honest with one another because they know it will stay
between the two. George admits to another character that he fooled around with Lennie because of his
arrogance. But George also says that he never does anything like that anymore to Lennie because
George cares a lot about Lennie. This shows that George learns from his mistakes, honestly admits it,
and then corrects what he did wrong. In chapter six, Lennie says, I done another bad thing (Steinbeck).
Lennie doesn t sugar coat his response. He just gives it straight to George. Lennie knows George is
intelligent, so he leaves the problems to be solved with George instead of handling them himself.
Lennie figures George is a true friend, so he tells George just about anything. If friends are more
honest with each other, then friendships would be much

Individualism In The Old Man And The Sea
Ernest Hemingway s The Old Man And The Sea is considered to be one of the most prominent and
famous works of the author that has earned him the world wide recognition. The significance of the
short novel was recognized by the 1953 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Besides, it could have contributed
to the provision of the Noble Prize to Hemingway. Even though the work was the regeneration of
Hemingway s writing activities, it has met controversial literary critic. While being referred to as the
new classic equal to the works of Faulkner and Melville, the short novel was also criticized for the
author s departure from the uncompromising realism or even for the considerations that it was an
attack upon them. Nevertheless, the story of the old fisherman Santiago who strongly struggled to get
the largest catch of his life and succeeded in overcoming the obstacles, even though the results seemed
more like a defeat. The immense importance of the short novel finds reflection in that it is a successful
attempt to depict the concepts of isolation, individualism, and pride, as well as the reflection on
heroism and the human striving for live. In the image of Santiago who strongly resembles the author

The Stuart Monarchy And The Tudor Monarchy
The Stuart monarchy is equally matched to the Tudor Monarchy in tumultuous affairs. The Stuart
monarchy began with James I who succeeded the throne from Elizabeth I. However, the eventual
successor that would experience the highest degree of failures would be his son, Charles I. Charles s
reign can be considered one of the biggest failures in the Stuart monarch. Under Charles I, the
relationship between the crown and Parliament would further descend. Although it does appear that
Charles inherited the conflict with Parliament from his father, he does nothing to improve the
relationship. Moreover, his reign resulted in further dissension between the crown and Parliament.
During Charles s reign a few key components were becoming more and more visible. Components
that were detrimental to the crown. Religion, Finances, and Politics were beyond divided. In religion
many began to oppose Charles because of his wife Henrietta. She was a devout Roman Catholic, and
this affected Charles severely. Parliament contained many members who were highly Protestant. They
wanted to reduce Roman Catholic influence in politics, and having a Catholic queen threatened this.
Charles vehemently avoid all attempts to persuade him to convert to a Roman Catholic. Charles
openly supported the Church of England, but his claims fell on deaf ears, mostly in part to his own
wife and mother. The people feared Charles s attempts towards religious toleration because it further
exacerbated fears that the Roman

Kay s Role In The Godfather

novel. Some enjoy the action while others focus on the negative aspects about women portrayed
throughout the storyline. The rhetoric Puzo places on the pages plays out scenes of violence, family,
loyalty and at times romance. The era in which this story takes place must adhere to real to life actions
of the characters in order for the reader to transform his or herself into this fictional world. For

Homeless Youth And Lgbt Youth
Introduction
The Palette Fund, True Colors Fund, and the Williams Institute joined forces in conducting a web
based survey from October 2011 through March 2012 designed to assess the experiences of homeless
youth organizations in providing services to LGBT youth. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and
Transgender (LGBT) Homeless Youth Provider Survey also assessed the prevalence of LGBT youth
within the homeless populations being served by these organizations. According to their findings, as
many as 40 percent of homeless youth identify as LGBT. The most common reason found to have
caused homelessness amongst LGBT youth was family rejection after coming out. The next most
common reason for LGBT youth homelessness was being forced out of their homes by their family as
a result of coming out. It is often difficult for parents that are just learning that their child identifies as
lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender to process the news and adjust smoothly. If more parents sought
guidance in how to adjust to their son or daughter coming out, then perhaps the number of homeless
LGBT youth would plummet.
As society evolves, so do views about being part of the LGBT community. People have begun to
slowly begin to acknowledge that there are many diverse ways to live, which happens to be one of the
characteristics of post modernism, and therapists are now talking about different ways to help those
families with members who identify as LGBT. Although coming out is still not something

Persuasive Essay On The Mountain Goat
I have been in existence for many, many years. I predate the oldest man alive, for as long as any living
being can remember my ridged body has stood tall, for longer than even I can recall. I have many
children but none are better fit for my near vertical landscape than my favorite creature, the mountain
goat. He s stable strong and sturdy, built for the mountain, virtually a king when to my steep surface,
while the goat doesn t have sharp claws or strong jaws meant to defend themselves from becoming

strategy that without, the antagonist of this story would almost certainly devour our horned friend.
That being said we must not interfere, you as a human and I as a mountain, humans often bring

Then, I went to the promotion issue. I analyzed the marketing strategy of our company; the northern
market should be one of the most important markets in 2013. Therefore, I need to promote a team
leader who can manage the consultant team for northern market. Based on her excellent consultant

Lilly showed her satisfaction with the result of annual performance evaluation and was pleased with
the chance to be a team leader. But she said she wanted to change to sales department in order to have
more time to take care of her family. Since I know that it could not easy to get more time if being a

the real reason was her personal annual income was less than Han, which made her feel

I thought I should focus on the income first. Firstly, shifting to sales department was not a good choice
since the income will decrease. Continue working as the consultant with expected 5 8% annual

Why Is Louis Xiv Important In The 1600s
From 1500 1700, there were multiple European monarchs that were beneficial to their country, but
there were also many other monarchs that were detrimental to their country. During this time period,
certain European countries also had their own governmental issues, whereas other countries were
thriving. Throughout the 1600 s, numerous European leaders were fighting internal and external wars,
having social and economic problems, and losing faith in their people. On the other hand, some
leaders were also providing support for their people and creating a strong government. There are
several European monarchs who were beneficial and detrimental, but five key people control the
discussion. King James I of England, Peter I of Russia, Louis XIV of France, Pierre Patel, and Queen
Elizabeth I of England are all royals who had a substantial influence over their countries.

In the beginning epigraph of To Kill a Mocking Bird, Harper Lee quotes a statement made by Charles
Lamb: Lawyers, I suppose, were children once. As told through the eyes of the rambunctious
elementary school child, Scout Finch, we see not only how she and her brother s lives are affected by
their community, also how they develop and mature under the watch of their father, lawyer Atticus
Finch. As a wise role model to his town of Maycomb as well as his children, Atticus Finch becomes a
prominently admirable character. As a father, lawyer, friend, and foe, Atticus Finch proves himself to
be an honest, selfless, and courageous human being. Throughout many of the ... Show more content

I do my best to love everybody, is her fathers solemn feedback. When it comes to parenting, Atticus
exemplifies his truthfulness to his children, never holding back any information that they might be
seeking. In similar aspects as well, he exhibits this same honesty with his decision to defend a black
man falsely accused of rape, Tom Robinson. Determined to uphold his client s representation, as well
as dignity, Atticus takes no questioning to the innocence of Mr. Robinson, and does his best in
veraciously presenting his case.
Atticus Finch also shows the characteristics of a truly selfless person as well. As Scout recalls of one
winter day, she remembers Mr. Walter Cunningham discussing his entailment; Mr. Finch, I don t know
when I ll ever be able to pay you, Mr. Cunningham states. Let that be the least or your worries, Walter,
Atticus replies. Later, Scout asks her father if Mr. Cunningham would ever pay them back; Not in
money, but before the year s out I ll have been paid, her father answers. Although the majority of
Maycomb, including the Finches, are fairly poor financially, Atticus Finch still offers what he has to
his neighbors and friends. Whether it be his services (or his children s for that matter), or his
hospitality, Atticus presents himself as

This paper analyses and compares two major global hotel chains, Marriott International, Inc. and
Starwood Hotels Resorts Worldwide, Inc. Both chains have extensive investments in and outside the
US. They have very strong brand names and are quite competitive. However they differ in their
strategies, like the market segment each one targets, the role of technology in the business, the
financial efficiency of their systems etc. The paper discusses the extent of globalisation that each firm
has taken and what is their strategy in terms of global expansion. The paper also analyses the benefits

5 Critical Factor Analysis
5.1 Critical Factors of Marriott s Global Success
5.1.1 High Brand Recognition
Marriott is well known for its strong brand portfolio in all the major markets around the world,
through its luxury brand like Marriott Hotels Resorts, and mid priced brands like Courtyard. As global
communication increases, these highly recognized brands are definitely the first choice for many
businessmen and travellers, for their global reputation and guaranteed quality.
5.1.2 Technical Factor
Marriott adopts a series of technical programs to support its customer service. One of them is Marriott
s Automated Reservation System for Hotel Accommodations (MARSH), which include a database of
all its customers around the world.2 When a guest enters the Marriott in New York, the system
recognizes that she stayed in Courtyard Tokyo last month and then she would receive a personalized
service. This way Marriott can provide a better customer service through information technology,
which is better than its competitors.
5.1.3 Economy Factor
The hotel industry is highly dependent on the economic scenarios. In the past few years, the fast
developing economy in Asia had strong positive influence on Marriott s globalization. The Asia
Pacific hotels industry grew by 21.7% in 2008 to reach a value of $116.5 billion. 4 While the hotel
industry in US is almost mature and

The Pros And Cons Of Ethnography
Ethnography is the systematic study of people and their cultures. It refers both to the process that is
used to study people as well as the outcome of this process. The term ethnography comes from the
Greek words ethnos (which means people or nation) and grapho (which means I write ).
Ethnography has been around for several decades, although it became highly popular in the late 19th
century. There have been several approaches to this study; Franz Boas, for example, preferred using
documents and informants to learn more about other cultures. However, many ethnographers
nowadays follow the approach of Bronislaw Malinowski, who believed that researchers should
immerse themselves in the life of the people they were studying. Malinowski embodied this belief by
going to Trobriand Island, living there for several years while he did his fieldwork, and even learning
the language of the local people.
At first glance, ethnography offers a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before he could begin studying a certain group of people, the ethnographer has to build rapport with
his subjects and make them comfortable around him. Of course, he has to spend months or even years
observing how they live on a daily basis and understanding their culture, norms, and traditions.
3. It depends on the ethnographer s relationship with his subjects.
Unlike most quantitative studies that can be done even with an impersonal relationship, ethnography
requires researchers to be in close contact with his subjects and have a good one on one relationship
with them. Building this relationship can be easy, but there are cases when the ethnographer would
have a difficult time creating rapport with his subjects. This is particularly true for tribes that have not
been in frequent contact with outsiders as well as groups of people don t take kindly to foreigners
living in their lands.

Communication And The Agile Method
Communication is key; these words have been etched into the brain of every student, business
professional, and leader in this modern age. Society has an ideology that to reach a common goal,
people need to be able to communicate their ideas in a manner that is both productive and
understandable. This is why college lectures, books, and scientific papers have been written about
communication and the various methods that it can be applied to, including the agile method. The
agile method is able to use communication to increase efficiency in productivity by allowing for
planned goals, more face to face meetings, and a steady flow of information between participants. To

These meetings between team members allow for participants to focus on what was accomplished,
what still needs to be completed, and what obstacles might get in the teams way. The time that is
allotted for scrum meetings gives students a chance for reflection where they can discuss what projects
must be completed and what ones are a priority (Moses p.2). Frequent meetings can help outline key
components of a project, and it can aid teams in learning how plausible a project is. For example, a
teacher may conclude that a class can write a ten page paper in one week. However when the students
meet and discuss this, they may ask for the project to be broken down into smaller increments (a draft
and then a final). The students are able to complete the smaller goal of finishing a draft in one week
and then another goal of finishing the paper at a later date. This goal setting allows for students to feel
less overwhelmed, all the while allowing them to fulfill more productive and meaningful work.
Additionally, setting goals and making an effort to share them with others forces students to be
accountable for the work they do. During scrum sessions, students are able to discuss and record their
goals for a project. This exchange of information allows for students to understand where they relative
to others and it holds them accountable for the work they do. For instance, if a student knows that they
are going to have to

My Life Has Changed Our Life
If I were a well educated and social kid, I would live a life no one could imagine of. My parents have
been living on a farm ever since I was born. Every day of my life I have been raising cows, raising
field crops, and livestock. Neither had we had enough time or money to move to an immense mansion
or leave our farm. My life is all about working and I can t even apply for school because of how poor
we are. My life has changed like a series of books. I wish I could have known that my life was going
to be full with sadness and mourning, but in life everyone has to...die On Sunday morning, I woke up
with the same thoughts and the same yelling from my parents for the past 12 years. Seriously, I would
rather be deaf then hear my parents yell, make sure you clean the barn out when we are gone and feed
the cows . I slowly went down stairs with my shoulders down and a hideous look on my face. My
pale, face showed how disappointed was with my unpleasant life. As soon as I got down stairs, the box
I had put out in the kitchen was there just waiting for me to pick it up. I finally realized that I did not
have enough time to do all of my chores when my parents came back. Quickly, I grabbed the brown,
crinkly box from the bottom with my boney, cold hands and picked it up the best I could. Every step I
looked carefully to make sure I didn t fall. I kept the box inside my room so I could know where it was
and that I could keep track of it. It was noon and my parents were still not back

Loss of Innocence in Mamas Don t Let Your Babies Grow Up...
One of my daddy s favorite songs is Mamas Don t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys by
Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. The song is an old southern anthem of the basic tale and fate of
growing up. The song goes on to warn mothers to keep their children safe from the harsh world that
awaits them, in this case it s the world of the west, and it couldn t be more true. Growing up is
inevitable and is a epidemic people have been trying to battle for years, the same way Peter Pan could
not stand to age even a year. With growing up and older, the world around you seems to change within
itself but all that is really changing is you. Your values and morals change along with your opinions.
You begin to see things in a different light and it s as if when you were born, you were born into
complete darkness and as time goes on the light slowly starts to burn from dim to blindingly bright.
Everyone has been growing up for years, even
Scout Finch from fictional Maycomb, Alabama in the novel To Kill A Mockingbird. Scout s journey
from innocence to understanding is one everyone must endure and take on with all the trials and
tribulations that come with life. Most children grow up hearing old stories from their families and sit

Ghost Dance Research Paper
The Ghost Dance was a religion or movement that combined Christianity and traditional Indian
religion elements that served as a nonviolent form of resistance for Indians in the late nineteenth
century. At the time, conditions were bad on Indian reservations and Native Americans needed
something to give them hope or something to look forward too. So they created and turned to the
Ghost Dance.
The Ghost Dance movement all began with a dream in 1889 by a Paiute shaman named Wovoka. In
his dream, he was taken into a spirit world and saw all Native Americans rising into the sky and the
Earth opening up and swallowing all Whites and then returning back to its original state. The Native

The Rise Of Prophet Muhammad Essay
To some the Prophet Muhammad was nothing more than a common man who shared what he believed
to be the word of God and his teachings and to others he was the most compassionate being who
would eventually be the savior to all humanity when the time presents itself. During his existence he
generated a movement, influenced the thoughts of many individuals and united large groups of people
under one common belief. He introduced what would be later known as Islam to anyone willingly to
listen. Although met with some opposition and discontent for this form of ideology, it did not prevent
people already belonging to religious groups such as, Judaism and Christianity, from being included in
the movement. The Believer s movement, the name given to the early religion and followers of
Muhammad, continued throughout his lifetime and shortly after his passing. However, once he left
this world his path of succession became so conflated and construed wars would be fought over who
deserved to learned by either birthrate or a people s favorite. The Believers Movement, a name that
was quickly losing its importance, became less about the actual teachings and more about who looked
best leading it. There were separate groups before the death of the Prophet Muhammad s death,
however, these divisions increased and the meaning of his teaching changed drastically. By comparing
two separate group of people during this time period one would better understand how different the

Silence of Life Hemingway is able to establish a connection with the reader by putting together the
different elements used to make a great story. The setting is everything that includes the physical
surroundings of the character including: place, time, weather, and atmosphere. The point of view is a

Hemingway makes sure to be very descriptive and set the contrast between light meaning clean and
dark meaning dirty. He successfully places each character in a specific part of the story to enhance
their importance. The setting that Hemingway places the characters in allows the reader to picture
themselves inside of the café and learn a little about each character inside. Even though the reader
knows that the café isn t spotless, they can understand that because it is close to closing time and
everyone is gone except two waiters and the old man that it s a clean, well lighted place because of
how Hemingway describes that the street is now quiet and the dew was settling. The waiters are
significant to the story because they represent how the age of man is important to the story. The
younger waiter goes outside to the old man twice, meanwhile the older waiter chooses to stay inside
until it is time to close then makes his way to an unclean poorly lighted place. Later on in the story
once everyone has left the café, the older waiter goes through a setting that seems to be a bar. At that
time the reader is able to understand the difference between the bar, the café, and the bodega. By
Hemingway describing these two completely different settings as elaborately as he does, it allows the
reader to compare and contrast the different places and understand the importance of the café. During
this time period there was a war going on and the movement of the waiters shows the moral awareness
of what s going around them. The old man is at the café so late to find peace of mind, something that
he would have not been able to find by visiting a bodega. The soldier and the girl are important

The mistake of not making simple reforms, like allowing one representative in parliament per colony
would lead to revolts, and even groups coming together. Some revolts were peaceful while others,
which affected the tax collectors and stamp sellers, were violent resulting in the tarring and feathering
of the British officials. The Sons of Liberty, led by Samuel Adams, James Otis, and Patrick Henry,
were a very radical and overdramatic group, Patrick Henry would make the fateful statement of Give
me liberty or give me death. On October 7th, 1765 the Stamp act congress would meet there were
representatives from 9 of the 13 colonies. The representatives made a decision to boycott British

differences blur. The restriction of civil liberties was also a major part of the original rebellions. One

The Case Of Amelia Earhart
History sucks. I do not mean the events that have taken place. I mean the gibberish one often has to
sort through to get to the truth about an event. The internet is useful for research, and often provides
instant access to necessary information. Considering how vast the internet is however, and the
questionable relevance of the information it contains, it just might be wise to proceed at your own risk.
Approaching internet sources, and any source for that matter, can be summarized with this: use
extreme caution.
Because of the dangers of misinformation, learning how to investigate and not rely upon
generalizations and conspiracies about historical events and people is necessary in an age where
instant information is a best seller. In the case of Amelia Earhart, so many ideas and conspiracies
convolute the true events surrounding her disappearance. For this reason, historical accuracy is
absolutely necessary if one is to reach a logical conclusion about her demise. As George Santayana
says, Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it 1. But I posit this: remembering
the past is useless if we opt to only take it at face value. If being complacent with simple summaries
becomes habit, we will shirk investigating more important issues. In fact, for all Amelia Earhart s
contributions to aviation, and more importantly the boundaries she broke within her society, we owe it
to ourselves to fully investigate. Often we do not fully appreciate

Causes Of The Dust Bowl
The Dust Bowl began in the 1930s and lasted a decade. It was sometimes referred to as the Dirty
Thirties , which was the name given to the worst natural and manmade disaster in U.S. history. The
lives of thousands, both young and old, were lost due to the damaging effects of the dust. The Dust
Bowl started in the Midwest and affected Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and part
of Nebraska. However, the physical damage was felt throughout the nation, when the winds took the
dust beyond these states. What natural and manmade causes created this human tragedy? How did it
contribute to the decline of the economy and the era known as the Great Depression? How did the
people of the United States persevere through this tragedy, and will we have to go through another
devastating era like this again? The first known cause that contributed to the start of the Dust Bowl
were farmers who began to try new farming techniques in order to increase profit and minimalize
spending. The reasoning behind this was that World War I was going on. This made the demand for
wheat sky rocket, and farmers were being paid record prices for their crops. Our nation was making
money by feeding other nations, and therefore it was logical to turn every foot of land into farming
land. ( United States History. 1) In an effort to help boost the economy, the government provided
cheap federal farm policies which allowed many people to take on the job of farming. In order to

The American Dream In The Day Of The Locust
It s called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it. George Carlin. In the
novel, The Day of the Locust, Nathanael West is able to depict the falsity behind the American Dream.
The dream is dangerous. West views Hollywood s version of the phenomenon known as the American
Dream as a myth that many people fall victim to, which is shown through the recurring themes of
despair in the novel.
Through the characters of The Day of the Locust, Nathaniel West is able to illustrate the dangers of the
Hollywood dream. According to Christenson The virtues that were once associated with the dream
have all but disappeared from the societies depicted in American literature as the quest for fame,
fortune, and power has replaced them. (2). Each character in the novel has a different background, but
ultimately came to California for a better life. They are blinded by their desires, with each of them
desiring something they can t have. In pursuit of this fictitious lifestyle, each character has to put on a
certain persona. They all are a representation of a failed attempt at accomplishing the Hollywood
dream. When people think of the American Dream, most think of the good that arises with it. They
don t consider the hardships and obstacles one must overcome. Many immigrants come to America in
hopes of accomplishing their dreams and aspirations, and if they can t, maybe their children can.
Haspel debates how The U.S. has changed drastically in the last several decades. The middle class,
which was the heart of the American Dream, is dwindling, and the disparity of wealth among social
classes continues to grow. (41) This defends the popular phrase The rich get richer while the poorer
get poorer. In essence, the American Dream can be viewed as the aim to climb the economic ladder.
As the economic gap between the different social classes grow, it becomes harder for certain groups to
see the American Dream as an attainable goal. The American Dream entails a variety of opportunities,
and it is hard for minorities to grasp such opportunities with limited resources. Haspel also debates
that Another issue contributing to the decay of the American Dream is the country s changing family

Formulas Are Set Patterns For Expressing Your Ideas
Formulas are set patterns for expressing your ideas. Also they enable you to pour your words into
recognizable article structures. Formulas, like outlines, impose discipline, help you determine the
components of your article and ensure that they relate to one another. Here are a few common article
formulas: Lists One of the most basic formulas for an article. A list article is just that a number of facts
tied together by a theme. List articles are easy to research, write and sell. Ten Common Sales
Objections, or Eight Ways To Avoid Workplace Injuries are list articles that deliver a cluster of facts
based on an overall theme. How To This is one the most common formulas for experts, and for good
reason. As the name suggests, this article tells readers how to solve a problem, perform a process, or
move toward a desired result. If you can show readers how to do something, it follows that you have
the expertise to perform it yourself. This eBook, for example, is based on the How To formula. Case
Histories This type of article shows readers how a business solved a problem or addressed a need. A
company that performs employee satisfaction surveys could write an article aimed at managers on
how it solved an employee retention problem and saved its client thousands of dollars. The Roundup

The Racism Of African Americans
From the beginning African Americans started off as kings and queens of Africa. They ruled their own
people. Stories have been told how the rulers were tricked by English men or most commonly known
as the white man. This has been configured and no one really knows the true story because we didn t
exist then. African Americans were deprived from their mainland. Blacks were then transported to the
New America. In 1619, the first blacks were enslaved in Virginia. They were used to do many jobs by
owners because Caucasians couldn t handle being in the sun for long periods of time but blacks were
called the lazy ones. African Americans as a group were discriminated, enslaved, and had no power.
There is two types of racism which is overt and subtle. Overt racism is more blatant and may take the
form of public statements about the inferiority of members of a racial or ethnic group. For example, a
racist chanting during a public event. Subtle racism, for example, suggesting an African Americans
athletes have natural abilities for a certain sports. African Americans get both types of this racism. It
goes from signs, flags, entertainment, etc. In entertainment we are nationally talked about comedies,
television shows, reality, etc. Blacks are portrayed as loud and it shows just a couple individuals and
we are discriminated by their actions. The things people see on television by a particular race, people
assume the entire race does that or contribute to their actions. Media is a

mercury has many uses and includes special properties, it has produced more destruction than aid to
the civilization throughout the years. The presence of mercury in the environment is a well known

As long as the fish continue to be exposed to mercury, mercury will continually build up in fish s
bodies. Fish that eat other fish grow even more highly tainted. Therefore, the fish most desirable for
many additional bigger fishes become the most affected, and larger sized fish will be the most
contaminated fish. Bacteria and chemical reactions in lakes and wetlands change the mercury into a
much more toxic form known as methyl mercury. Fish become contaminated with methyl mercury by
eating food, which has absorbed methyl mercury. The environment is at a serious risk because of the
levels of mercury in our water supply. Mercury will contaminate the fish and other wild life around

Analysis Of The Catcher In The Rye
Worlds Apart In a City Boy s Heart The Catcher in the Rye, written by J.D. Salinger set in 1950s New
York City, deals greatly with maturity and youth. Especially, with regard to teenage struggles in
Holden Caulfield, and the effects of the environment on him. Phoebe and Sally Hayes, the two most
mentioned girls in the novel, differ greatly from each other in what they represent and in how they
influenced Holden Caulfield. Phoebe positively affects Holden, and gives him direction and reality.
One example of how Phoebe positively affects Holden is their conversations during Holden s visit, in
which Phoebe tries to convince Holden not to leave. Holden being very lost, drifting about New York
City, was anchored back to reevaluating his life and what he needs to do with Phoebe s guidance.
Holden s reevaluation of his life, after being guided by Phoebe, to go to her play, makes him appear
like that he had regained a small sense of direction in his life. Another example of Phoebe s positive
affect is given after Phoebe convinces Holden to stay, and not wander, with Holden admitting, I really
did go home afterwards...I felt so damn happy... The way old Phoebe kept going around... (212 213).
By convincing Holden to stay, Phoebe s positive affect is clearly sown exemplifying Phoebe s
importances in giving direction to Holden s life. Their conversation was the first time Holden was not
expressing his usual self destructive behavior; this was mainly due to Phoebe s presences and concern

time period. She finds evidence from different Medieval works of literatures to help support her thesis.
O Pry Reynolds uses some details from Beowulf, Lancelot, Knight of the Cart, and Sir Gawain and
The Green Knight to show the different gender roles between men and women. The details O Pry
Reynolds finds from the different Medieval literatures in her essay are not supported in The Prologue
to The Canterbury Tales and The Wife of Bath. Anita Kay O Pry Renolds Men and Women as

Chaucer writes about the Women from bath who had five husbands. It was very rare for women to
have more than one husband because they didn t believe in divorce.
Men and women from the middle ages had different roles in society that they had to live up to. The
gender rules they had to abide by was very strict. It was considered not normal to step outside of the
bounds of the gender roles assigned to them. (O Pry Reynolds 41). It was not usual for women to do
the roles of a man and vice versa. Just like in The Prologue to The Canterbury Tales the nun and the
monk would never be caught doing each other s job. The women in middle age were vessels of
chastity, purity, and good ness. This meant that the ladies would not go lay in bed with any and every
man they met. They would find the one and be loyal to him till death. The men during this time would
go on quest to show off how strong they were.
The supporting roles in Medieval literature for men and women had been very different. The men
were always the ones looking for a battle to fight if not n their own village then in other lands. (O Pry
Reynolds 38). Men could only be the heroes in Medieval Literature by who he is, his quest, and his
victories (O Pry Reynolds 37). If this was not the case for some men they could not be heroes. In most
Medieval Literature the women had roles that were just for support. They would be the characters

Centrality King Lear
Gloucester s Centrality in King Lear Though entitled King Lear, the play does not revolve around the
king himself but rather centralizes around the tensions among characters. From filial to romantic, the
play contains relationships layered with tension, either confronted or ignored. At the root of many
tensions lies Gloucester. His role in the play may appear secondary initially, but because of his
relationships with his sons and King Lear as well as simply his presence Gloucester acts as the crux in
the tensions of the play. His actions or lack thereof shape the course of the play, establishing
Gloucester s centrality within the context of King Lear. The play draws many parallels between Lear
and Gloucester. At the start of the play, they both love their children and possess sanity. Lear and
Gloucester both subscribe to faith in their other children s facade of love, rather than the true devotion
Edgar and Cordelia have for their fathers. As the play continues, both Lear and Gloucester lose their
minds. Gloucester loses his eyes after he did not see Edmund s malfeasance, and Lear loses his
daughters love after he did not understand Cordelia s attempt to tell him the truth. As the play draws to
a close, Gloucester dies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Free Cash Flow Free cash flow In corporate finance, free cash flow (FCF) is cash flow available for distribution among all the securities holders of an organization. They include equity holders, debt holders, preferred stock holders, convertible security holders, and so on. G. Bennett Stewart the economic model of value holds that share prices are determined by just two things: the cash to be generated over the lifetime of a business and the risk of the cash receipts . GSB (1990), The Quest for Value FCF is the cashflow generated by a company s operations that is free, or net, of the new capital invested for growth. • 3. Becoming Transgender In The United States n these past few years we have seen a great deal of change in the United States. From the legalization of gay marriage, and or the legalization of marijuana. These are things that people in the past would think are things that should not be legalized but times change. Lately, many people not in conform with their biological gender have been becoming the opposite sex, a transgender. Some of the most recent well known cases of becoming transgender have to be Bruce Jenner and Rodrigo Heng song of republican senator, Ileana Ros Lehtinen. All this talk brings up the question of whether sex is a psychological thing, or an anatomical thing. I believe that sex is an anatomical thing and I also believe that becoming transgender can bring negative effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I can say this from experience because I have seen transgender people at stores, and all they do is stare at me. It gets to the point where I just want to leave because they make me so uncomfortable. I recall going to ,my locker about a month ago with my friend during fifth period. As we were going back to our classroom, a girl walks by and naturally a teenage boy will look at her body. I told my friend, she is kind of hot , to which he replied, you do know she is transgender? I was pretty much socked and was really condues. Now I have no problem with her but what she did was uncomfortable. As she passed between us, she was lifting her shirt and touching her but. I was uncomfortable because I tend to see women as people who are respectful and don t do that kind of stuff. The girl did = not show any private parts but she did make me uncomfortable. This brings me to the article, when a lawsuit in Minnesota was placed. The transgender which is labeled, Student X , was lifting her clothes and asking to trade body parts. Obviously this would make her peers uncomfortable. What makes it all the ,most weird, is that people consider what this girl did as something all girls do. While some girls may dance inappropriately, I am almost positive girls don t talk about trading body ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Effects Of Une-Con Mussolini The Italian fascist regime between the years 1922 to 1943 provoked many changes in areas such as education, religion, foreign influence and culture. In the film Un Tè Con Mussolini, Zeffirelli attempts to advocate certain implications to the viewers by purposely choosing to either conceal or reveal many of these transitions and their effects on the different sectors of Italian society. For instance, although the central character Luca is presented to have some form of schooling the film fails to address any of the educational procedures that the Prime Minister put in place in order to eliminate illiteracy and allow for all children to attain a decent education. Instead of highlighting the success in this part of the regime, Zeffirelli rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the film we see this reality in how after mid 1940 when Italy declared war on Britain and France it was a dangerous time to be Jewish, as there were spies that would denounce them to the fascist authorities. In addition, like Elsa, Jews who were looking for a way out the country were often deceived and had their valuables and capital stolen, as there was an attitude similar to that of Nazi Germany in which people believed that the Jews through scheme managed to have power and manipulate areas of finance and politics. (127) However, what Un Tè Con Mussolini doesn t show is that many fascists were Jews themselves and that Mussolini was never a complete anti Semite devotee, for many people whom he admired and worked with were Jewish too, such as Margherita Sarfatti, his long time mistress and propaganda manager. (Paul, C.E. Zaczek) In addition, to further show his detestation towards Mussolini, the movie withholds that part of the reason why the dictator implemented the anti Semitic policy of 1938, was due to the fact that he was under pressure to please Hitler and gain Germany s support in Abyssinia.(115) The reason as to why Zeffirelli chooses to conceal this is rather unclear, as it is a piece of evidence that slightly lessens Mussolini s malice and shows a different side to him. However, through this portrayal what can be held true for certain is that one of the director s main aims is to persuade the audience of Il Duce s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The American Psychology Association ( Apa ) Labels distinguish individuals in everyday life; if 2000 people from across the world were randomly selected and put into categories of hair colour, none of them would share exactly the same shade of colour. Despite this continuity humans still continue to assign each other to discrete hair colour categories such as blonde or brown which have no basis in biology but still go on to determine how that person is thought of in society. The American Psychology Association (APA) provides guidelines for researchers to follow in both research and writing scientifically in order to avoid any form of labelling bias when referring to participants or groups of participants. Boroditsky, Wade, Wu, Frank, Witthoft and Winawer (2007) established the importance of precision in labels by studying the difference in response between English and Russian speakers in distinguishing similar but subtle different shades of blue. In Russian there are many words for blue as they divide the spectrum into lighter blues goulboy and darker blues siniy but in English there is only one single word for the colour blue. Due to this difference the Russian speakers were quicker to distinguish between the colours as they had readily available labels unlike the English speakers. Labels have the ability to control more then just conscious perception but they can also change how we perceive more complex things like people subconsciously. Jennifer Eberhardt (2003) showed white college students pictures of a man who was racially ambiguous. For half of the students the face was described as white and for the other half he was described as black . In one task the experimenter asked the students to spend four minutes drawing the face while it was on the screen in front of them. Although all the students were looking at the same face, those who were told that the face belonged to a specific race tended to draw the face with typical stereotype features associated with that race. This demonstrated that the students were unable to identify the subject as a individual after the label of his race was assigned to him. Rosenhan (1983) provided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Streptomycin resistance changes had little fitness impacts in rifampicin resistant genotypes that had adjusts to antibiotic free environment , contrasted with the same genotypes without acclimatization. • 7. Mitochondria and Chloroplasts Descended from Free-living... Mitochondria (mt) provide critical function in (a) maintenance of cellular energy supplies, i.e., thermoregulation and synthesis of essential molecules (such as phospholipids and heme); (b) apoptosis or programmed cell death; and (c) mediating multiple cellular signaling pathways (Ryan and Hoogenraad 2007). It is widely accepted that mitochondria and chloroplasts descended from free living bacterial ancestors (Dyall et al. 2004). Following their acquisition by eukaryotic cells during endosymbiotic evolution, most of the genes in these organelles were either lost or transferred to the nucleus. Today, it is demonstrated that from all mitochondrial proteins (over 1500) most of them (93 99%) are encoded in the nucleus, synthesized in the cytoplasm and then imported into the organelles (Woodson and Chory 2008). For instance, human mtDNA only contains 37 genes and codes for 13 encoding polypeptides, 22 tRNAa, and 2 rRNAs (Ryan and Hoogenraad 2007). The relationship between organelles and the nucleus is continually evolving to suit an organism s needs. Based on the above mentioned close relationship, a strict communication between mitochondria, chloroplasts and the nucleus is indispensible. Hundreds of genetic diseases in humans and thousands of phenotypic variations in plants and other organisms are known to be the result of alterations affecting nuclear mitochondrial (NM) communication. These communication mechanisms include both nucleus to organelle (antrograde) and organelle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay on Ernest Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls In Hemingway s For Whom the Bell Tolls, the recurring images of the horse and the airplane illustrate one of the major themes of the novel. The novel s predominant theme is the disintegration of the chivalric order of the Old Spanish World, as it is being replaced by the newer technology and ideology of the modern world. As a consummate artist, Hemingway, in a manner illustrating the gothic quality of his work, allows the bigger themes of For Whom the Bell Tolls to be echoed in the smaller units. He employs the tropes of the horse and the airplane to convey these larger themes, while at the same time using them to comment upon the complex relationship that exists between the Spaniards Fascists and Communists, alike and religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They have abandoned religion, as they have become disillusioned by it, and, therefore, have no mechanism for atonement. Stemming from their close attachment to the chivalric ideal of equality in battles, the Spanish have absolutely no conception of modern warfare, until the planes begin invading their land. They view war as a match of equals, wherein a lone soldier can look his enemy in the eye as they battle, but, instead, they are forced to come to grips with the horrors of modern warfare. The planes are representative of the modern mechanical accomplishments that have emerged, which can replace the chivalric, soldier of the Old World. With the emergence of such technologies, and the influx of new ideologies, not only has the religion, once integral to chivalry, become obsolete, but the people, too, have become dispensable. Gone forever is the almost sacred element of one on one battles; the planes have eradicated these chivalric ideals, by replacing them with a brand of never before seen mass destruction. In effect, the new ideologies have become the new religion; they have replaced the Church, just as the new mechanisms, such as planes, and mass warfare have replaced the chivalric ideals of the medieval world. The meaning of the horse and airplane images can be illuminated through an exploration of Chapter 27, which conveys, without a doubt, their significance. One of the very first ... • 10. Immigration Laws And The United States Immigration laws have resulted in a situation where many illegal immigrants live and work in the United States. Yet, it is an important issue that has been blown out of proportion by the media and politicians. Here in the United States, Syrian refugees have enriched our cultural growth into a more diverse and positive outcome and have enhanced our influence in the World. However, Americans have responded to their arrival with violence and hate towards them. In the late 19th century, the Arab world was under the Ottoman Empire. The United States chose to classify this certain group as Arab immigrants along with others that were under this empire including Turks, Greeks, and Armenians. Despite that the ruling Ottoman authority was Islamic, they were seen as Turks and the vast majority were Christians. At the turn of the twentieth century, Arabs became more associated with being Muslim and Syrians were labeled as Christians, which is why Syrians were seen as more favorable. In the 1900s, the Chinese Exclusion Act identified those who were considered white or not. This was important because once stated that a person is White , they can become a naturalized citizen. According to Encyclopedia of Race, Ethnicity, and Society, Richard T. A friendship may have its ups and downs, but a true friendship should never perish. John Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men illustrates the importance of a close friendship, and the dependability that comes along with that relationship. Thomas Aquinas, an Italian philosophers, wisely said, There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than a true friendship (Aquinas). Lennie and George are completely honest with one another because they know it will stay between the two. George admits to another character that he fooled around with Lennie because of his arrogance. But George also says that he never does anything like that anymore to Lennie because George cares a lot about Lennie. This shows that George learns from his mistakes, honestly admits it, and then corrects what he did wrong. In chapter six, Lennie says, I done another bad thing (Steinbeck). Lennie doesn t sugar coat his response. He just gives it straight to George. Lennie knows George is intelligent, so he leaves the problems to be solved with George instead of handling them himself. • 12. Individualism In The Old Man And The Sea Ernest Hemingway s The Old Man And The Sea is considered to be one of the most prominent and famous works of the author that has earned him the world wide recognition. The significance of the short novel was recognized by the 1953 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Besides, it could have contributed to the provision of the Noble Prize to Hemingway. Even though the work was the regeneration of Hemingway s writing activities, it has met controversial literary critic. While being referred to as the new classic equal to the works of Faulkner and Melville, the short novel was also criticized for the author s departure from the uncompromising realism or even for the considerations that it was an attack upon them. Nevertheless, the story of the old fisherman Santiago who strongly struggled to get the largest catch of his life and succeeded in overcoming the obstacles, even though the results seemed more like a defeat. The immense importance of the short novel finds reflection in that it is a successful attempt to depict the concepts of isolation, individualism, and pride, as well as the reflection on heroism and the human striving for live. The Stuart monarchy began with James I who succeeded the throne from Elizabeth I. However, the eventual successor that would experience the highest degree of failures would be his son, Charles I. Charles s reign can be considered one of the biggest failures in the Stuart monarch. Under Charles I, the relationship between the crown and Parliament would further descend. Although it does appear that Charles inherited the conflict with Parliament from his father, he does nothing to improve the relationship. Moreover, his reign resulted in further dissension between the crown and Parliament. During Charles s reign a few key components were becoming more and more visible. Components that were detrimental to the crown. Religion, Finances, and Politics were beyond divided. In religion many began to oppose Charles because of his wife Henrietta. She was a devout Roman Catholic, and this affected Charles severely. Parliament contained many members who were highly Protestant. They wanted to reduce Roman Catholic influence in politics, and having a Catholic queen threatened this. Charles vehemently avoid all attempts to persuade him to convert to a Roman Catholic. Some enjoy the action while others focus on the negative aspects about women portrayed throughout the storyline. The rhetoric Puzo places on the pages plays out scenes of violence, family, loyalty and at times romance. The era in which this story takes place must adhere to real to life actions of the characters in order for the reader to transform his or herself into this fictional world. Homeless Youth And Lgbt Youth Introduction The Palette Fund, True Colors Fund, and the Williams Institute joined forces in conducting a web based survey from October 2011 through March 2012 designed to assess the experiences of homeless youth organizations in providing services to LGBT youth. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Homeless Youth Provider Survey also assessed the prevalence of LGBT youth within the homeless populations being served by these organizations. According to their findings, as many as 40 percent of homeless youth identify as LGBT. The most common reason found to have caused homelessness amongst LGBT youth was family rejection after coming out. The next most common reason for LGBT youth homelessness was being forced out of their homes by their family as a result of coming out. It is often difficult for parents that are just learning that their child identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender to process the news and adjust smoothly. If more parents sought guidance in how to adjust to their son or daughter coming out, then perhaps the number of homeless LGBT youth would plummet. As society evolves, so do views about being part of the LGBT community. People have begun to slowly begin to acknowledge that there are many diverse ways to live, which happens to be one of the characteristics of post modernism, and therapists are now talking about different ways to help those families with members who identify as LGBT. I have many children but none are better fit for my near vertical landscape than my favorite creature, the mountain goat. He s stable strong and sturdy, built for the mountain, virtually a king when to my steep surface, while the goat doesn t have sharp claws or strong jaws meant to defend themselves from becoming prey, but they do have strategy. Strategy that is a must have for this species to survive and thrive, strategy that without, the antagonist of this story would almost certainly devour our horned friend. That being said we must not interfere, you as a human and I as a mountain, humans often bring emotion into nature, believing predator and prey could get along or come to an understanding, the childish ranting of a delusionist who took Disney films far too serious. The only understanding these two have is that one will try to eat and the other survive, now let us watch through the eyes of the hooved and clawed. My hoofs are sore, I ve been climbing all day as I do most days and I m exhausted. I m not sure if I should stop here though, it s not very far up the mountain, a predator could be around waiting for the moment I let my guard down but can I keep going? No ill find a corner to take a quick nap to regain a little energy, as I lay down everything slowly becomes dark, will I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I analyzed the marketing strategy of our company; the northern market should be one of the most important markets in 2013. Therefore, I need to promote a team leader who can manage the consultant team for northern market. Based on her excellent consultant skill and knowledge of the logistics industry, she is the best man for this position. Lilly showed her satisfaction with the result of annual performance evaluation and was pleased with the chance to be a team leader. But she said she wanted to change to sales department in order to have more time to take care of her family. Since I know that it could not easy to get more time if being a sales manager, I didn t consider it as the real reason for her shift. Through conversation, I learned that the real reason was her personal annual income was less than Han, which made her feel uncomfortable. I thought I should focus on the income first. Firstly, shifting to sales department was not a good choice since the income will decrease. Continue working as the consultant with expected 5 8% annual income increase. Secondly, I explained that she and Han held different position, their income can t be compared. Although I cannot tell the specific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Pros And Cons Of Ethnography Ethnography is the systematic study of people and their cultures. It refers both to the process that is used to study people as well as the outcome of this process. The term ethnography comes from the Greek words ethnos (which means people or nation) and grapho (which means I write ). Ethnography has been around for several decades, although it became highly popular in the late 19th century. There have been several approaches to this study; Franz Boas, for example, preferred using documents and informants to learn more about other cultures. However, many ethnographers nowadays follow the approach of Bronislaw Malinowski, who believed that researchers should immerse themselves in the life of the people they were studying. Malinowski embodied this belief by going to Trobriand Island, living there for several years while he did his fieldwork, and even learning the language of the local people. Society has an ideology that to reach a common goal, people need to be able to communicate their ideas in a manner that is both productive and understandable. This is why college lectures, books, and scientific papers have been written about communication and the various methods that it can be applied to, including the agile method. These meetings between team members allow for participants to focus on what was accomplished, what still needs to be completed, and what obstacles might get in the teams way. The time that is allotted for scrum meetings gives students a chance for reflection where they can discuss what projects must be completed and what ones are a priority (Moses p.2). Frequent meetings can help outline key components of a project, and it can aid teams in learning how plausible a project is. For example, a teacher may conclude that a class can write a ten page paper in one week. However when the students meet and discuss this, they may ask for the project to be broken down into smaller increments (a draft and then a final). The students are able to complete the smaller goal of finishing a draft in one week and then another goal of finishing the paper at a later date. This goal setting allows for students to feel less overwhelmed, all the while allowing them to fulfill more productive and meaningful work. Additionally, setting goals and making an effort to share them with others forces students to be accountable for the work they do. During scrum sessions, students are able to discuss and record their goals for a project. This exchange of information allows for students to understand where they relative to others and it holds them accountable for the work they do. The song is an old southern anthem of the basic tale and fate of growing up. The song goes on to warn mothers to keep their children safe from the harsh world that awaits them, in this case it s the world of the west, and it couldn t be more true. Growing up is inevitable and is a epidemic people have been trying to battle for years, the same way Peter Pan could not stand to age even a year. With growing up and older, the world around you seems to change within itself but all that is really changing is you. Your values and morals change along with your opinions. • 28. The Rise Of Prophet Muhammad Essay To some the Prophet Muhammad was nothing more than a common man who shared what he believed to be the word of God and his teachings and to others he was the most compassionate being who would eventually be the savior to all humanity when the time presents itself. During his existence he generated a movement, influenced the thoughts of many individuals and united large groups of people under one common belief. He introduced what would be later known as Islam to anyone willingly to listen. Although met with some opposition and discontent for this form of ideology, it did not prevent people already belonging to religious groups such as, Judaism and Christianity, from being included in the movement. The Believer s movement, the name given to the early religion and followers of Muhammad, continued throughout his lifetime and shortly after his passing. However, once he left this world his path of succession became so conflated and construed wars would be fought over who deserved to learned by either birthrate or a people s favorite. The Believers Movement, a name that was quickly losing its importance, became less about the actual teachings and more about who looked best leading it. There were separate groups before the death of the Prophet Muhammad s death, however, these divisions increased and the meaning of his teaching changed drastically. Even though the reader knows that the café isn t spotless, they can understand that because it is close to closing time and everyone is gone except two waiters and the old man that it s a clean, well lighted place because of how Hemingway describes that the street is now quiet and the dew was settling. The waiters are significant to the story because they represent how the age of man is important to the story. The younger waiter goes outside to the old man twice, meanwhile the older waiter chooses to stay inside until it is time to close then makes his way to an unclean poorly lighted place. Later on in the story once everyone has left the café, the older waiter goes through a setting that seems to be a bar. The internet is useful for research, and often provides instant access to necessary information. Considering how vast the internet is however, and the questionable relevance of the information it contains, it just might be wise to proceed at your own risk. Approaching internet sources, and any source for that matter, can be summarized with this: use extreme caution. Because of the dangers of misinformation, learning how to investigate and not rely upon generalizations and conspiracies about historical events and people is necessary in an age where instant information is a best seller. In the case of Amelia Earhart, so many ideas and conspiracies convolute the true events surrounding her disappearance. For this reason, historical accuracy is absolutely necessary if one is to reach a logical conclusion about her demise. As George Santayana says, Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it 1. But I posit this: remembering the past is useless if we opt to only take it at face value. • 36. Ransom Of Julius Caesar Research Paper Julius Caesar is one of my favorite Greek leaders. Some of the things that he has done sound unreal, and are very unknown. One time, in 75 B.C., he was kidnapped by pirates. He was in his mid 20s, and had he set out from Rome for the Aegean island of Rhodes. He planned to study with Apollonius who was a Greek rhetorician whose students had included Cicero, who became a famous orator in Rome. However, along the way to Rhodes, Caesar s ship was hijacked by pirates off the southwestern coast of Asia Minor. When the pirates named a ransom price for his release, Caesar thought the number was insultingly low and told them he deserved a higher ransom be demanded. Eventually, the higher ransom was paid and Caesar was freed. Soon after, he sought revenge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Causes Of The Dust Bowl The Dust Bowl began in the 1930s and lasted a decade. It was sometimes referred to as the Dirty Thirties , which was the name given to the worst natural and manmade disaster in U.S. history. The lives of thousands, both young and old, were lost due to the damaging effects of the dust. The Dust Bowl started in the Midwest and affected Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and part of Nebraska. However, the physical damage was felt throughout the nation, when the winds took the dust beyond these states. What natural and manmade causes created this human tragedy? How did it contribute to the decline of the economy and the era known as the Great Depression? How did the people of the United States persevere through this tragedy, and will we have to go through another devastating era like this again? The first known cause that contributed to the start of the Dust Bowl were farmers who began to try new farming techniques in order to increase profit and minimalize spending. The reasoning behind this was that World War I was going on. This made the demand for wheat sky rocket, and farmers were being paid record prices for their crops. Our nation was making money by feeding other nations, and therefore it was logical to turn every foot of land into farming land. ( United States History. 1) In an effort to help boost the economy, the government provided cheap federal farm policies which allowed many people to take on the job of farming. • 38. The American Dream In The Day Of The Locust It s called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it. George Carlin. In the novel, The Day of the Locust, Nathanael West is able to depict the falsity behind the American Dream. The dream is dangerous. West views Hollywood s version of the phenomenon known as the American Dream as a myth that many people fall victim to, which is shown through the recurring themes of despair in the novel. Through the characters of The Day of the Locust, Nathaniel West is able to illustrate the dangers of the Hollywood dream. According to Christenson The virtues that were once associated with the dream have all but disappeared from the societies depicted in American literature as the quest for fame, fortune, and power has replaced them. (2). Each character in the novel has a different background, but ultimately came to California for a better life. They are blinded by their desires, with each of them desiring something they can t have. In pursuit of this fictitious lifestyle, each character has to put on a certain persona. They all are a representation of a failed attempt at accomplishing the Hollywood dream. When people think of the American Dream, most think of the good that arises with it. They don t consider the hardships and obstacles one must overcome. Many immigrants come to America in hopes of accomplishing their dreams and aspirations, and if they can t, maybe their children can. Haspel debates how The U.S. has changed drastically in the last several decades. The middle class, which was the heart of the American Dream, is dwindling, and the disparity of wealth among social classes continues to grow. (41) This defends the popular phrase The rich get richer while the poorer get poorer. In essence, the American Dream can be viewed as the aim to climb the economic ladder. As the economic gap between the different social classes grow, it becomes harder for certain groups to see the American Dream as an attainable goal. The American Dream entails a variety of opportunities, and it is hard for minorities to grasp such opportunities with limited resources. Haspel also debates that Another issue contributing to the decay of the American Dream is the country s changing family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Especially, with regard to teenage struggles in Holden Caulfield, and the effects of the environment on him. Phoebe and Sally Hayes, the two most mentioned girls in the novel, differ greatly from each other in what they represent and in how they influenced Holden Caulfield. Phoebe positively affects Holden, and gives him direction and reality. One example of how Phoebe positively affects Holden is their conversations during Holden s visit, in which Phoebe tries to convince Holden not to leave. Holden being very lost, drifting about New York City, was anchored back to reevaluating his life and what he needs to do with Phoebe s guidance. Holden s reevaluation of his life, after being guided by Phoebe, to go to her play, makes him appear like that he had regained a small sense of direction in his life. Another example of Phoebe s positive affect is given after Phoebe convinces Holden to stay, and not wander, with Holden admitting, I really did go home afterwards...I felt so damn happy... The way old Phoebe kept going around... (212 213). By convincing Holden to stay, Phoebe s positive affect is clearly sown exemplifying Phoebe s importances in giving direction to Holden s life. Chaucer writes about the Women from bath who had five husbands. It was very rare for women to have more than one husband because they didn t believe in divorce. Men and women from the middle ages had different roles in society that they had to live up to. The gender rules they had to abide by was very strict. It was considered not normal to step outside of the bounds of the gender roles assigned to them. (O Pry Reynolds 41). It was not usual for women to do the roles of a man and vice versa. Just like in The Prologue to The Canterbury Tales the nun and the monk would never be caught doing each other s job. The women in middle age were vessels of chastity, purity, and good ness. This meant that the ladies would not go lay in bed with any and every man they met. They would find the one and be loyal to him till death. The men during this time would go on quest to show off how strong they were. The supporting roles in Medieval literature for men and women had been very different. The men were always the ones looking for a battle to fight if not n their own village then in other lands. (O Pry Reynolds 38). Men could only be the heroes in Medieval Literature by who he is, his quest, and his victories (O Pry Reynolds 37). If this was not the case for some men they could not be heroes. Centrality King Lear Gloucester s Centrality in King Lear Though entitled King Lear, the play does not revolve around the king himself but rather centralizes around the tensions among characters. From filial to romantic, the play contains relationships layered with tension, either confronted or ignored. At the root of many tensions lies Gloucester. His role in the play may appear secondary initially, but because of his relationships with his sons and King Lear as well as simply his presence Gloucester acts as the crux in the tensions of the play. His actions or lack thereof shape the course of the play, establishing Gloucester s centrality within the context of King Lear. The play draws many parallels between Lear and Gloucester. At the start of the play, they both love their children and possess sanity. Lear and Gloucester both subscribe to faith in their other children s facade of love, rather than the true devotion Edgar and Cordelia have for their fathers. As the play continues, both Lear and Gloucester lose their minds.
