The identification of several risk factors associated with poor hand hygiene compliance is of extreme
importance in the design of an education program .There should be continues education and
monitoring of healthcare worker on effective hand washing and hand hygiene. According to an
outcome of a study, wearing finger ring, wrist watch, long fingernail and use of hand lotion has impact
on spread of infection by healthcare workers (Fagemes amp;Lingaas 2010. Health care workers that
use wrist watches at work may cause or promote higher total bacteria count than not wearing a watch.
A similar situation occurs with finder ring and health care workers should remove finger rings and
watches when at work, fingernails should be shorter than 2 mm, so as to reduce HAI (Fagemes
amp;Lingaas 2010).
Description of Present Problem
In America and worldwide, millions of patient are suffering from hospital acquired infections also call
nocosomial infection (NIs). This infection rate has high economic effect that is raising daily, rises
from $6.5 to $33.8 billion within last 5 years (Spruce 2013). One in every 136 patients admitted to
hospital or health facility end up with HAIs and become severely ill causing longer stay in the
hospital, thereby increasing the cost of stay and antibiotic treatment. Morbidity rate of HAIs is very
high with thousands died every year (Spruce 2013). The most frequently occurring hospital acquired

President Theodore Roosevelt
Proclamation and First Inaugural Address: The Use of Ethos and Pathos

December 5, 2012
Inaugural addresses usually follow a farewell address given by the outgoing President. In the book
Presidents Creating Presidency: Deeds Done in Words, Campbell and Jamieson s chapter on Farewell
Addresses explain that [a] farewell address is an anticipatory ritual; the address is delivered days,
sometimes weeks, before an outgoing president lays down the office, an event that does not occur
until a successor is sworn in (308). This was not the case for Theodore Roosevelt for there was no

In the biographical material that Podell and Anzovin have compiled they inform the reader that
Roosevelt was once a Sunday school teacher and saw the political platform as a bully pulpit (356).
They also express that Roosevelt s tendency in speaking and writing resembles that of a Protestant
preacher, as he stresses the importance of walking towards the paths of righteousness and virtue (356).
Many people did not like the manner to which Roosevelt would present his speeches because he
would be seen as being very loud in volume. While walking back and forth he can be seen waving his
speech around like a maniac man screeching his voice in tones that were unbearable to some listening.
Podell and Anzovin describes William Roscoe Thayer observations to the manner of which Roosevelt
dramatized his speeches; that some of the listeners were fascinated by his gestures, the way in which
his pent up thoughts seemed almost to strangle him before he could utter them, his smile showing the
white rows of teeth, his fist clenched to strike an invisible adversary (356). Theodore Roosevelt loved
the attention and enjoyed the art of oratory for he looked for many opportunities to speak in public,
especially on issues that he was passionate about. For Roosevelt, speechmaking was a means

Person Centered Theory Analysis
Description of Person Centered Theory
The Humanistic and Existential Theory I selected Person Centered theory. The Person centered
approach was established in the 1940s by Carl R. Rogers. Carl Rogers established this theory to prove
that a client hold the key to their recovery (ADPCA, 2011). This approach is considered to change
clients prospective and facilitate growth by developing a positive counseling/client relationship. Once
the relationship is achieved, in the process analyze the reality of who they are as an Individual and
receive acceptance. This contributes to the positive forces of the client and a client s self actualizing
core (ADPCA, 2011). Person centered approaches reflect what the client feels, to overcome resistance

The Feminist Movement Essay
The changes that occurred in gender relations at the turn of the twentieth century were a factor in the
emergence of modernism. The first wave of the Feminist Movement began during this period with the
New Woman as its protagonist. The New Woman was a figure that was independent, relatively
sexually liberated and educated. Many women no longer lived their lives according to the Victorian
ideal required for them and it became more acceptable for women to be seen unaccompanied outdoors
and working in certain types of employment. The new woman was perceived as being a treat to men
and after the First World War the independence that women enjoyed received a repercussion as

(Port 2001, 205) According to Sigmund Freud, a man about thirty still appears youthful and is still
opened up to the possibilities of change and development. However, a woman of the same age, often
frightens us by her physical rigidity and unchangeability . (Porter 2001, 206) In the character of Sasha
Jansen can be seen the social, biological and economic consequences of ageing for women and the
strenuous efforts that she invests in staving off the effects of aging in order to achieve the effects of
appearing young. (Savoury 1998, p121)
A woman s ability to appear beautiful and desirable is threatened by the lack of financial resources as
well as by the exhaustion and depletion of their bodies over time and through the effects of

Modern society through the desires of advertising and consumer culture places women under pressure
to maintain a youthful appearance. The early twentieth century saw the rise of mass culture , fashion

Moon Landing Research Papers
Moon Landings Essay I think the moon landing was real because evidence that I have found makes
me believe that it was real . One thing that makes me believe it was real is that the U.S was in a race
with another country of who would make it to the moon first and Why? would the fake going to the
moon because I know as a competitive person I wouldn t want to lose and I wouldn t fake it because I
would embarrass myself and look dumb and also embarrass my entire country . My opinion is I think
it s real because when Apollo 11 launched countries all over the globe tracked them to the moon and if
it s fake why would countries lie about tracking apollo 11 to the moon. Also in my evidence it said

The Bells Tone
Edgar Allan Poe s theme in The Bells is the four stages of a person s life. The silver bell is appropriate
for childhood, the golden bell is the one for youth and the maturing for marriage. The brazen bell
represents the harsh and dangers of middle age, and the iron bell is suited to old age because of its
heavy and melancholy tone and also because it is associated with the funeral knell. (Litfinder)
In the first stanza, Poe never directly says the bells are Christmas bells, he uses the words tinkle, icy
air, and jingling, to let the reader know that he is describing Christmas. He uses repetition of words
like rhyme and time to give the reader an overall mood of happy (Poetry for student s pg. 47). He does
this because this stanza ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poe provides a visual image and an association with a thing of value by referring to the bells as golden
(pg.48). He describes the night as balmy which gives a soothing and mild feeling instead of the harsh
use of icy in the first stanza (pg.48). Poe s world usage and repetition help the reader realize that this
is a joyous mood. This stanza symbolizes maturing, starting a family, and growing older.
The third stanza takes a dramatic turn and is dark and gloomy. The third stanza is describing the chaos
of a fire and the desperate sound of the fire alarm. Poe uses personification to describe the fire. He
says that fire has a desire to climb so high that it can sit next to the pale faced moon (pg.49).
Previously in the poem the repetition of bells was an upbeat and happy, but now he is using it to create
a sense of urgency and panic (pg.49).
The final stanza is the saddest and depressing in the poem. In this stanza Poe is describing a person s
funeral. The bells are now black and made of iron and the sound is illustrated as melancholy and as a
groan. Poe uses personification in the phrase rust within their throats (line 69) to describe the bells
having a thick raspy voice. He also uses repetition by repeating Keeping time, time, time, in a sort of
runic rhyme (line 92, 96, 101) to create a creepy and disturbing feeling among the

1968 Revolution Research Paper
Driving Forces, Responses and Legacies of the 1968 Uprisings
The movements for change across Europe in 1968 differed between Eastern and Western Europe due
to the catalysts and the responses they provoked (because of differing political systems), but the
revolts across Europe in 1968 left similar legacies of improved living conditions, détente and cultural
freedom in both Eastern and Western Europe.
Due to a few Eastern Europe countries demanding political freedom and Western Europe demanding
freedom from capitalism, the reasons for the movements of change across Europe in 1968 differed
greatly. In Eastern Europe, (most notably in Czechoslovakia) citizens tried to gain political freedom
from the USSR through uprisings. When Leonid Brezhnev ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Harley Davidson, An American Motorcycle Manufacturer
Harley Davidson, Inc. (H D), or Harley, is an American motorcycle manufacturer, founded in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1903. It was formed by William S. Harley and his childhood friend Arthur
Davidson.
In 1901, 20 year old William S. Harley had plans to manufacture a motorcycle and he designed a
small engine that could be easily get fitted into the paddle bicycle. But the drawback of that was it
couldn t climb up the hill in Milwaukee. So they thought to come up with a bigger engine and this lead
to the success of Harley Davidson.
As one of two major American motorcycle manufacturers to survive the Great Depression (along with

effort. Harleys had already been used by the military in the Pancho Villa Expedition but World War I
was the first time the motorcycle had been adopted for combat service. The U.S. military purchased
over 15,000 motorcycles from Harley Davidson during World War I. Harleys were also used in the
World War II and the US army specifically asked Harley Davidson to incorporate the features of
BMW s side valve and shaft driven R71, which Harley did successfully.
By 1920, Harley Davidson was the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, with 28,189

The Great Depression began a few months after the introduction of their 45 cubic inch model. Harley
Davidson s sales fell from 21,000 in 1929 to 3,703 in 1933. Despite this, Harley Davidson unveiled a
new lineup for 1934. In order to survive the remainder of the Depression, the company manufactured
industrial powerplants based on their motorcycle engines. They also designed and built a three
wheeled delivery vehicle called the Servi Car, which remained in production until 1973.

American Society on the Change during the Post World War Years
After World War II, Americans experienced a time of rapid social change. American soldiers were
discharged and returned home from the battlefields, hoping to find work and to get on with their lives.
Marriage rate increased dramatically after the war. North American population experienced what is
known as the Baby boom an 18 year period of rapid population growth from 1946 to 1964. During this
period, many children were born than in the same period before or after. During the post war years, the
United States embarked on one of its greatest periods of economic expansion. Many Americans had

These includes changes in social levels over time, death rates, economic conditions and laws the no
fault divorce laws, the reduction in fertility and the legalization of abortion increased the divorce rates
in the 1980s. However, scholars believe that the single most important social change which made
divorce possible was the increase in the employment of women and the economic independence that
employment provided. For nearly all decades, the lifetime probability of divorce for women of all ages
has been increasing. For women born in 1920, the likelihood of divorce by age 55 was 27 percent.
This same level of divorce was reached at a much younger age (age 30) for women born in 1950. At
least 40 percent of young adult women are likely to divorce. 16 percent are likely to divorce twice if
current divorce rates continue. In Document 1, in the 1990s and 2000s, divorce rates appear to decline
slightly. In the meantime, suburban population was growing and shifting during the post war years.
Baby boomers brought much prosperity as they grew up and entered the work force. With so many
people working and making a better living, growing families needed more room. Millions of
Americans were leaving the cities for the suburbs. The growth of the suburbs after 1945 was due
mainly to the large number of new homes financed by the G1 Bill which gave them low interest rate
mortgages to purchase new homes. Tax deductions also made the move from urban areas to the
suburbs

Necessary Physical Contant in D.H. Lawrence s Women in Love and Plato s Symposium D.H.
Lawrence s novel, Women in Love, presents a complex model of female male and male male
relationships. Lawrence s model relies heavily on a similar model presented in Plato s Symposium.
The difference between the two works lies in the mode of realization; that is, how one goes about
achieving a perfect love relationship with either sex. Lawrence concentrates on corporal fulfillment,
characterized in his recurring reference to obtaining a blood oath, while Plato concentrates on a
mental, or divine bond. Lawrence s concentration on corporal fulfillment of love only superficially
differs from Plato s concentration on the mind: both come to the ... Show more content on

This interpretation does not draw a distinct enough line between Plato and Lawrence s philosophies:
whereas the dark flood of electric passion may be transcendental, the connection itself, rooted solely
within corporal exchange, is not. Lawrence narrates that the strange fountains of Birkin s body are
more mysterious and potent than any she had imagined or known, more satisfying, ah, finally,
mystically physically satisfying (359). The mysteriousness of this connection is how, in touch, the
body functions to bring about the maximum of unspeakable communication ... that can never be
transmuted into mind content ... the mystic body of reality (366). Lawrence is stating that the body
functions much like the soul in Plato s philosophy in that both are mystic. Lawrence s description of
bodily exchange being mystically physically satisfying conveys that both the mind and body are
inextricably linked: the body is needed to establish a mental connection. That mental connection is
explained when Ursula describes to Hermione that Birkin wants [her] to accept him non emotionally,
and, He wants [her] to accept him as ... an absolute (333). In other words, Lawrence s view of a
perfect union comprises of two human beings accepting each other as they are: neither has to conform
to the other: they exist as separate and distinct entities. When their love is finally consummated,
Lawrence states that [Ursula] acquiesced but it was accomplished without her

Absorbance Values
Abstract:
Claims were made that manufacturers had improperly labeled protein concentrations on their products.
Concentrations of these three different protein containing liquids, whole milk, soy milk, and a protein
solution were determined using a Bradford dye reagent and a spectrophotometer to measure the
absorbance of each. Absorbance of a set of standard known protein concentrations from a range of
0.125 mg/ml to 2.000 mg/ml were measured using the spectrophotometer at a set wavelength and this
data was plotted. The equation generated from the best fit line of this data was used to determine the
unknown concentrations of the three different samples. These values were then compared to the
protein concentrations obtained from the corresponding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would indicate that either the food labels or the calculated data are incorrect. The data was
dependent on a linear relationship between absorbance and protein concentration. However, the linear
relationship was based on only seven data points, two of which were omitted due to inconsistency, and
was only representative up to 2.000 mg/ml protein concentration. Because the data sample was small
and covered a small range of concentrations, the food label concentrations cannot be determined as
inaccurate. The more likely cause would be that the linearity assumption of the correlation between
the absorbance and the protein concentration is

Time In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Dreams engulf Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream throughout this play from when Hippolyta
and Theseus talk about their wedding to Puck s final soliloquy. Hippolyta tells Theseus, Four nights
will quickly dream the night away the time (Shakespeare 25). She uses dreaming as a form of time
measurement. At the end of the play, Puck says in his final soliloquy, And this weak and idle theme,
no more yielding but a dream, gentles, do not reprehend: if you pardon, we will mend (Shakespeare
133 134). He conveys that if he offends anyone in the audience, he advises them to think of the play as

Shakespeare s plays typically involve two character s to one of his actors, so the solution [of having
more roles than actors] was doubling the roles (Smith 2). However, doubling was not simply a
practical necessity, but a representational technique that could also make connections and contrasts
between distinct characters or worlds (Smith 2). Some characters reverse roles in A Midsummer Night
s Dream: Theseus for Oberon, Hippolyta for Titania, and the rude mechanicals for the fairy attendants.
Everyone, it seems, in Dream is always someone else (Smith 2). Displacement takes place when we
transform the person or object we are really concerned about to someone else (Freud 7). Displacement
occurs everywhere in this play. An example of this behavior occurs in Act I when Egeus wants Hermia
to marry Demetrius and not Lysander. Hermia s opinion remains the opposite. Hermia is willing to
enter a convent rather than marry her father s choice, Demetrius, but the play does nothing to indicate
why she should so strongly prefer Lysander (Smith 6). Lysander and Demetrius appear
interchangeable. At the end of the play, the boundaries between Dream and reality seem blurry to the
character as they awake from there sleep Demetrius asks, Are you sure that we are awake? It seems to
me that yet we sleep, we dream (Shakespeare Act V). The characters do so many things and fall asleep
abundantly that they can not tell if they are

Naturalism Literary Period
Naturalist writing portrays individuality within a character allowing one to obtain humanistic themes
from these literary works. Naturalists utilize mundane monotonous lives and reveal the heroine within,
when all (environment, opportunities, intuition) seems out of control. This type of literature was found
relatable during the rapid urbanization and naturalization after the Civil War, where many in bustling
developing cities suffered from poverty and its poorly prevented consequences. The American
naturalist movement was important due to the introduction of themes involving popular apprehension
during this time period including; man vs. nature, man vs. society, sex trade, wasted potential due to
uncontrollable forces, and man s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also unlike romanticism, Zola uses his characters as a device for symbolism rather than a hero for
readers to look up to. In these naturalistic writing of Zola, there is also much emphasis of people
working together in groups, the literary references are greatly due to the labor wars that were taking
place during the turn of the century. Zola also took frankness about sexual functions much further than
the early Realists had dared; and it is this, combined with a pervasive pessimism about humanity,
which chiefly characterizes the Naturalist novel (Brians). Americans were attracted to this relatable
coarse naturalism, more than that of realism.
Though realism and naturalism were introduced through the protest against romanticism, without
these tragic tales of fiction, the stories we know today, such as the all American detective story would
not be a part of even our most elementary entertainment.
Naturalism s main attraction to the American people was due to the timeframe in which it introduced
its morals and themes to the population. The repugnant forces and perplexing relationships in life are
represented through naturalist literature. Plots in literary naturalism follow a prominent decline. These
plots often elaborate a character s general worsening. Naturalist stories tend to be written in an
omniscient third person point of view. This format presents an objective tale of a main

Personification is used in dialogues like I love the way they sail over traffic jams. (p.34). The
personification identified in this sentence had to deal with sailing, a verb, traffic jams, a non living
thing, because personification deals with a nonliving object that can use actions in a sentence and
expresses that the things sail over traffic jams. Even though, sailing is only for boats. Imagery is used

Why Is An Excused Act Morally Wrong
In war every combatant, just or unjust, poses a certain type of threat. On the two opposite ends of the
spectrum a combatant poses either a culpable threat or an excused threat. If a combatant poses a
culpable threat he poses a threat of wrongful harm to others and he is not justified, premised, nor
excused in his actions (McMahan 159). If a combatant poses an excused threat, he poses a justified
threat of harm and is therefore fully excused for his actions. In addition to the legality of a combatant s
actions, just war theory concerns itself with the morality of a combatant s actions. This is an important
fact to recognize because, often times, terms will have a slightly different moral definition than the
tradition legal definition with which average persons are familiar. Before proceeding any further, it is
of vast important to understand the terms excuse and permission as a just war theorists understands
them to mean. For the interest of this paper, when a combatant performs a wrongful act, whether it be
moral or legally wrong, but the combatant is not blameworthy, he is excused. (McMahan 110). Just
war theorists believe a combatant is premised to complete an action if the act is not morally wrong,
and cannot warrant a justifiable complaint. The important take away to remember is the victim of an
excused act would have a justifiable reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An excused action is still morally wrong. This is the key problem of failing to realize the difference
between permission and excuse in relation to the moral equality of combatants. People who fail to
realize the difference of these terms are lead to believe unjust combatants are acting in accordance
with moral law when they are excuses. Whereas in reality, unjust combatants are not to blame for their
actions if they are excused, but their actions are still morally wrong because just combatants are liable

Censorship from Obscene Material
Censorship From Obscene Material
Today, in the 1990 s, citizens in our society are being bombarded with obscene material from every
direction. From the hate lyrics of Gun s N Roses to the satanic lyrics of Montley Crue and Marilyn
Manson to the sexually explicit graphical content of today s movies, the issue is how much society is
going to permit and where we, as a society, should we draw the line. The freedom of speech has
always been considered a right, but that doesn t mean that you can shout, Fire! in a crowded movie
theater. The real question is whether such material is harmful or dangerous to our society. Many
people are asking whether or not we should censor offensive material. They believe that some material
is too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The critics of this point of view think that private sector censorship will not be enough. They believe
that the entertainment industry will not be able to control itself. Private sector restrictions do not have
the authority of the law, therefore they cannot successfully draw the line between what can and cannot
be said in public. The third and final possible solution is no censorship at all. While many Americans
are troubled by what they feel is offensive speech, and feel that it should be restricted by law,
advocates of the third solution disagree. They feel that there is more harm in restricting free speech
than by the offensive speech itself. In the bill of rights, the first amendment says, Congress shall make
no long abridging the freedom of speech. The first amendment was intended to protect the minorities
from the tyranny of the majorities. The advocates of this view feel that the minority has a right to
express themselves regardless of the opinion of the majority. Free speech matters because it
encourages creativity. Without the freedom of speech, America would probably be dull and drab like a
communist country such as the former USSR. For example, the comedy of Andrew Dice Clay,
considered offensive by some, shouldn t be censored from those who find him

Christopher Columbus the Liar
The letter Christopher Columbus wrote back to Spain to report his findings in the New World sparked
intrigued me and sparked my imagination. Why I have been so absorbed in this letter I can not
explain. This letter is supposed to be about describing an unknown land, a land that has not been seen
by anyone besides the natives, but it seems that there is more to it than that. Columbus is known in
elementary schools as the man who found the New World, and is regarded as a hero. To the contrary,
historians who have done more research on Columbus say that he was driven by fame and fortune and
that he was tyrannical in his ways with the indigenous peoples of the places that he came to find. I feel
that the contradictory tones Columbus uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I then took it to another level. As fascinated as Columbus was with what he saw, he did not want the
king and queen to think that he thought the new world was more beautiful than Spain itself. To think
that this New World could be more beautiful than mother Spain, could be treason and he could not
describe this place to the king and queen without mentioning Spain s beauty. So, as unnecessary as it
may seem to me to describe these islands in relation to Spain, Columbus may have been using a bit of
tactic behind his seemingly innocent poetry. In trying to save himself from seeming treasonous,
Columbus had to use a little poetry to compare the New World to Spain. In the quote, the place
Columbus was describing seems divine and majestic, almost like heaven, but then he just relates all
this beauty to Spain in the month of May. Is Spain really that beautiful in the month of May, or is
Columbus just trying to make the monarchs believe that Spain is just as majestic and divine. This line
alone, seemingly insignificant, may have dampened Columbus s description of the New World, just to
please a few monarchs.
In the following paragraphs, Columbus explains how timid and afraid the native peoples are of all of
his men. Columbus makes himself seem so noble and so generous to these people, by giving them
gifts and not allowing

Examples Of Globalization In The Movie Lion
Globalization has been presented in almost all of the movies today. In the movie Lion , a big part that
helped the main character find his way was through technology, using media, trade, and transportation
as the main factors. In this film, the producers and directors took a true story about a little boy s
unfortunate mishap that turned around and changed his life. As he went into his adulthood he used
technology and transportation to find where he came from, and through globalization it abled him to
find his way back home.
Throughout the movie the train symbolized the transportation factor of globalization. The train was
there in the beginning when the boy lost his way and, was there at the end when he found it. In the
modern world, trains, planes, cars, and trucks is what we use to travel or transport goods. Yes,

Analysis Of The Movie Famous
The image I ve chosen is a still from one of Kanye West s recent music videos titled Famous. I found
this video on YouTube a couple months back when it was released in July and found it quite
interesting. The specific still I m using from the video is shown towards the end of the video when the
camera completely zooms out revealing all the sleeping bodies. One of the main reasons this image
captured my attention and caught me off guard was because of the people featured in the video and the
fact that they were all completely naked. Here is a little bit of background on the song itself. During
the 2009 VMAs Taylor Swift won the award for Best Female Video over Beyonce who was also
nominated for the same category. As Taylor was giving her acceptance speech, Kanye came onto the
stage and interrupted her by saying that Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time. Because of
this historical moment (if you will) Kanye claims that Taylor Swift is only famous because of him. A
popular line from the song Famous is I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex why?/ I made that
b**ch famous. Taylor of course did not like this and even talked about this in her Grammy acceptance
speech basically saying that she worked hard to get to where she is. Since then there s been drama
between Taylor and The Wests (Kim and Kanye). So when I saw Taylor in Kanye s video I was very

A New Perception of Eliza Essay
A New Perception of Eliza
From times to times, back in the old days, women were seen as powerless and non respected figures in
the society where authorities and prestige were dominated by men. Glimpses of gender inequality
during the early 20th century in London were introduced through Pygmalion by George Bernard
Shaw. The story revolves around Henry Higgins, a renowned professor of phonetics, who makes a bet
with his friend, Colonel Pickering, that he can successfully transform Eliza Doolittle into a refined
lady by teaching her etiquettes, and impeccable speech. In the book Pygmalion, the author well
portrays a smart, strong and independent, quite feisty young British woman through Eliza, a Cockney
flower girl.

was secondary to philosophic interests. Eliza acknowledges the fact that she s worthy of so much
more, and she won t ever settle for a life behind Higgins s shadow. After all, what s there to a life of
Eliza fetching Higgins s slippers when she can enjoy a much better one.
Further in the book, it s shown that Eliza Doolittle is certainly not someone to be ignored. When
Higgins and Pickering seem to be carried away from their small experiment , Eliza doesn t stand there
and does nothing, she voices her thoughts. Well, here I am ready to pay him not asking any favor and
he treats me as if I was dirt. (2.34) . She maybe uneducated ,but compared to others, Eliza is a smart
lady who refuses to let other stumble over her. Certainly, Eliza won t back down as her feeling of self

the story, a bitter argument is seen between the two, Eliza and Higgins. As a result, with her extremely
strong characters and ideologies, Eliza leaves Higgins for good along with her self respect and dignity.
Far from many stereotypical Cinderella story like, Eliza Doolittle in Pygmalion is determined to make
sure that no one can manipulate her just for the sake of their boredom life. Readers don t see the

Leverage buyouts, acquisitions and mergers created a much more chaotic workplace. Companies
wanted to cram employees together and accommodate them in the cheapest way possible. The answer
to this was to create a sea of cubicles with modular walls so it would be cheaper. Cubicles no longer
meant autonomy, and instead they became the new symbol of impermanence, reflecting the dark side
to cubicle design. 1990s: The Office Becomes Virtual The LA ad agency TBWAChiatDay s

Effects of the Asian Financial Crisis on 1997
The financial crisis in many countries in Asia in 1997 1998 was an unexpected event. It was mainly
because most of the Asian countries had been enjoying economic growth prior to the crisis. The crisis
itself started with the devaluation of Thailand s Baht in July 1997. The Thailand government decided
to float its currency in order to defend the Baht against speculative attack, despite its fixed exchange
rate system. This decision was apparently the beginning of the economic downturn of many Asian
countries, such as Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Indonesia. Before the crisis,
Indonesia s economy was growing rapidly; having a low inflation and a well maintained current
account deficit. However, Indonesia surprisingly became the country that was affected the most by the
crisis. This paper aims to examine the effects of the Asian financial crisis in 1997 1998 to Indonesian
economy and how it could happen.
After Thailand floated the baht in 1997, Indonesia s monetary widened its currency trading band. It
changed the exchange rate regime from floating exchange rate to free floating exchange rate, causing
the Rupiah and the stock market to decline. Before the crisis, the exchange rate between the rupiah
and the US dollar was approximately 2,600 Rupiah/USD. The rupiah started to depreciate to 4,000
Rupiah/USD, and dropped dramatically to over 11,000 Rupiah/USD on January 1998. The spot rates

Essay on Girl Interrupted Review
One popular cultural myth about the mentally ill is the archetype of the Sexy Crazy Girl , which we ve
seen in movies, comic books, and music. Losing your grip with reality is not a glamorous subject, but
that s not what you get from Girl, Interrupted. It is apparent that all the girls in the movie had some
type of dysfunctional personality, and bad things happen to some of them, but it just did not seem
realistic. First off, most of the patients prtrayed were young, which made the care facility look like a
youth home rather than a mental institution. but only the main (well known) stars, (Jolie and Ryder)
were focal piont. I ll also note that about half the young girls in the movie, Ryder and Jolie included,

It seems she s playing nearly the same sexy vixen she s played in a few other films already; just this
time, she s in a t shirt, and occasionally gets tied to a bed. It d be interesting to see Jolie really stretch
beyond her type; maybe in a Jane Austen movie or playing a nun.
Overall, Girl, Interrupted feels like a movie that could ve been rawer, more intense, and more
confrontational... ie, a lot less Hollywood. I found myself wondering what this adaptation of Kaysen s
book would ve been like if it had been done on a shoestring budget with unknown young actresses and
a fledgling director. Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade, the short film by Billy Bob Thornton that led to
the film Sling Blade came to mind. I m also noticing that that s the 2nd time I referenced another film
that is primarily about men, not women. Maybe we need an excellent film about mentally ill young
women, and maybe Girl, Interrupted could ve been that film... but it isn t.
Quickly summed up, this film may indeed be compared to a female version of One Flew Over the
Cuckoo s Nest, except where that film was a rebellion tale, Girl, Interrupted appears to be more about
self discovery. Though this film has been long in development, and many actresses vied for the
leading role, the casting call was even more crowded for the supporting roles. In particular, though I

Can you choose something when you are forcefully and enthusiastically immersed in it at an age when
the resources and information necessary for choosing are not yet yours? (228). In A Supposedly Fun
Thing I ll Never Do Again by David Foster Wallace the audience is taken into the author s life, from
childhood to adulthood. Wallace went on different journeys and he tells the reality of all of them, both
what he expected and what truly happened. He is trying to assure the audience that even though

Wallace uses quotes from many different people throughout the novel, whether he has known them for
a long time or had just met them. These quotes add to the theme of the story because it gives other
characters input besides the authors alone. It proves that others think this way as well and expect
something to be a certain way, when in reality it happens to be the complete opposite. Wallace
expected a Midwesterner, who he was interviewing at a state fair, about what others thought of what
she did, he asked, So this doesn t bother you? As a Midwesterner, you re unbothered? Or did you just
not have an accurate sense of what was going on back there? The lady simply replied with, So if I
noticed or I didn t, why does it have to be my deal? What, because there s assholes in the world I don t
get to ride on The Zipper? I don t ever get to spin? Maybe I shouldn t ever go to the pool or get all
girled up, just out of fear of assholes? (101). After Wallace asks how this woman feels and what others
say she should feel after her embarrassment, and instead of being terrified she did not seem to care.
The woman told Wallace that just because she should feel a certain way does not mean she will,
insisting that she can do whatever she pleases, even after many people tell her she should not.
Following talking to that woman, Wallace interviewed a gentleman during the same fair. He asked the
man, But would they want to? Your kids I mean. Would they want to hit the Hollow, ride the rides, eat
all butter fudge, test various skills, mingle a little? (110). Most people would expect this man to say
yes because that is what a great deal of people go to the fair for. Instead the man replies, Hail no. We

speculation on the harvest allowed for him to purchase rights to the presses. He could then exercise his

Comparison Of The Mona Lisa And Leonardo Da Vinci
Mona Lisa and Leonardo da Vinci are most likely the two most recognizable names in the world.
Maybe it is the way her hands are placed, the young woman s glance, the missing eyebrows or perhaps
it is her smile. The Mona Lisa is unquestionably the most famous piece of art in the world. The Mona
Lisa was painted by a Renaissance genius, Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo da Vinci was a man of few
paintings but created many drawings; he kept for himself numerous pieces of his own work. Notably,
the results of Leonardo s technique, the woman s smile, and the mystery that lies within the identity of
the woman has brought fame to this masterpiece. In my opinion, from the sixteenth century to the
twenty first century the painting s fame has enhanced the original painting of Mona Lisa. Leonardo
brought light to a new technique when he painted Mona Lisa. He invented the Sfumato technique,
which means without lines or borders . In the sixteenth century, it was typical for artists to use an
outline but Leonardo stepped outside the border of normal. The painting consists of beautiful shade
and color transitions resulting in a glowing and mysterious painting. The new technique brought on
the painting s fame but does not alone make Mona Lisa famous.
The woman who is the subject of this famous portrait is still a mystery. Ostensibly, Lisa Gherardini is
the mysterious woman in the portrait. She was the wife of a merchant named Francesco del Giocondo.

Snorkeling
One of the first activities we did was snorkeling. First, we put on our wet suits. Then, we picked out
flippers and a snorkel and mask. Next, we practiced breathing in our snorkel, before we started. It was
difficult for me to get use to breathing under water, because i m so use to holding my ... Show more

In this activity, we were in a line from shortest to tallest, and were blindfolded, holding each other s
shoulders. Then, or counselor went in front of us, and lead us somewhere. For example, when the
person in front of me went right, they would say right so I would know a right turn was coming. Then
when I felt us going right, I would yell right to the person behind me, and so on. My favorite part
about it, was when we were done, and she explained all the crazy places we went. Also, I really
enjoyed snorkeling, Because I had never gone snorkeling before. I loved how we could breathe
underwater, so we could focus on all the beautiful shells, fish, and

I wanted to spend a little more on this to balance the budget. I think this is necessary to prepare for our
future and is very reasonable. I think most people would be happy with this because we need a plan
for future energy resources. I cut transportation and community and regional development because I
do not think they need as much money as they were getting. I don t think people would be very happy
with this and I do not think it would be a very realistic cut, because we need a lot of money for these
programs due to upkeep for our roads and community and it is essential to Americans that we have
reliable ways to get places. Education is important to our future and making sure people can get jobs
and is the base to our country s success, which is why I increased their spending. I think this is
realistic and most people would be happy with this. We always want to have better schools and
teachers so children can get better educations. I decreased Non Medicare health spending, because
they were spending a lot of money that was not necessary. I do not believe that this is all that realistic,
because we need money to pay for medical research and medications. I do not think people would be
happy with this, because they want to be taken care of. I decided to increase aid to low income
families so that people who need help can get it to support their families. I think this

Emergency Preparedness, Response And Recovery Programmes
1. Introduction
In the wake of the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and resulting tsunami, over 4000 scientists,
government officials, NGOs and UN representatives met in Kobe, Japan to address one of the most
important tests the world has to face: disaster risk reduction (DRR). The product of the conference
was the 10 year Hyogo Framework for Action 2005 2015. Endorsed by 168 countries, the document
promotes 3 main aims: the integration of DRR into viable development policies and planning, building
resilience to hazards and incorporating risk reduction methodologies into the implementation of
emergency preparedness, response and recovery programmes (GNDR, 2014). In order to achieve these
goals, the framework states 5 priorities of action:

Nevertheless, one point that everyone agrees on is that the HFA has achieved very much in giving
greater momentum to DRR worldwide. Judging by the stable growth of the number of countries
reporting their progress on HFA implementation, from 27 countries in 2007, to 77 in 2009 and over
100 in 2011 (GNDR, 2014), and by the overall rise in their quality, it is easy to see the increase of
interest towards achieving HFA goals. Moreover, the continuous increase in participants at
conferences related to disasters can also point to a new level of popularity of DRR, thanks in no small
part to the Framework.
There has also been some well documented progress towards accomplishing the first priority of action,
with a growing number of nations updating their existing laws based on HFA standards, including Sri
Lanka, India, Indonesia, Egypt, etc. (Oxfam International, 2011). Also, the number of National
Platforms enacted across the world has increased from 38 in 2007 to 73 in 2011 (Oxfam International,
2011), while the number of HFA Focal Points for HFA implementation has risen from 63 to 192,
indicating a clear commitment to the standards and provisions of the Hyogo Framework for Action.
Nonetheless, there is yet to be seen some significant headway in harmonizing legislative frameworks
in other sectors, such as water resources, agriculture, etc. with the new laws, which sometimes can
lead to key difficulties in disaster risk management.
The most important accomplishment of the HFA is

The Demon Lover And The Disturbing Lover
Marriage has been an important aspect of life for thousands of years. While the world has not always
married people formally, the link between a wife, her husband, and both their families has been a
significant part of history; however, things change. Many women cheat and have children that are not
their husbands . It has been a problem since Mesopotamian society; at least, that is as far back as
society can trace it. Ancient societies started making laws against the adultery of a woman and
punished them for cheating. While the laws have disappeared, adultery has still continued through
history. Both the The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen and the Scottish ballad The Daemon Lover
deliver messages in order to warn women to stay faithful to their partners, no matter the
circumstances. Bowen s The Demon Lover expresses a warning to women during times of war. The
story takes place at the beginning of World War 2 and tells the tale of a woman, Mrs. Drover, who
remarried after her fiance was presumed dead during his time in the war, but many years later,
received a letter from him. She was awestruck, but she had a husband and kids ... Show more content

Both stories have the woman remarry and have kids (though the number of kids varies) and the
woman reunites with the man in some form, whether through the letter in Bowen s story or in person
in the ballad. Also, the end of the stories are similar, the ballad ends in the sinking of the ship and the
couple going to hell and Bowen s story ends in the taxi speeding away without mercy, (arguably)
taking the taxi driver, the Devil, and Mrs. Drover to hell. Both stories varied in details. The number of
children changed and the story of the woman changes. The ballad is more straight to the point and
conveys the message quickly in contrast to The Demon Lover in which the story is more descriptive
and is left to deeper

Many people did not like the manner to which Roosevelt would present his speeches because he would be seen as being very loud in volume. The silver bell is appropriate for childhood, the golden bell is the one for youth and the maturing for marriage. The brazen bell represents the harsh and dangers of middle age, and the iron bell is suited to old age because of its heavy and melancholy tone and also because it is associated with the funeral knell. (Litfinder) In the first stanza, Poe never directly says the bells are Christmas bells, he uses the words tinkle, icy air, and jingling, to let the reader know that he is describing Christmas. Poe s world usage and repetition help the reader realize that this is a joyous mood. This stanza symbolizes maturing, starting a family, and growing older. The third stanza takes a dramatic turn and is dark and gloomy. The third stanza is describing the chaos of a fire and the desperate sound of the fire alarm. Poe uses personification to describe the fire. He says that fire has a desire to climb so high that it can sit next to the pale faced moon (pg.49). Previously in the poem the repetition of bells was an upbeat and happy, but now he is using it to create a sense of urgency and panic (pg.49). • 22. Why Is An Excused Act Morally Wrong In war every combatant, just or unjust, poses a certain type of threat. On the two opposite ends of the spectrum a combatant poses either a culpable threat or an excused threat. If a combatant poses a culpable threat he poses a threat of wrongful harm to others and he is not justified, premised, nor excused in his actions (McMahan 159). If a combatant poses an excused threat, he poses a justified threat of harm and is therefore fully excused for his actions. In addition to the legality of a combatant s actions, just war theory concerns itself with the morality of a combatant s actions. This is an important fact to recognize because, often times, terms will have a slightly different moral definition than the tradition legal definition with which average persons are familiar. Before proceeding any further, it is of vast important to understand the terms excuse and permission as a just war theorists understands them to mean. For the interest of this paper, when a combatant performs a wrongful act, whether it be moral or legally wrong, but the combatant is not blameworthy, he is excused. (McMahan 110). Just war theorists believe a combatant is premised to complete an action if the act is not morally wrong, and cannot warrant a justifiable complaint. • 23. Censorship from Obscene Material Censorship From Obscene Material Today, in the 1990 s, citizens in our society are being bombarded with obscene material from every direction. From the hate lyrics of Gun s N Roses to the satanic lyrics of Montley Crue and Marilyn Manson to the sexually explicit graphical content of today s movies, the issue is how much society is going to permit and where we, as a society, should we draw the line. The freedom of speech has always been considered a right, but that doesn t mean that you can shout, Fire! in a crowded movie theater. The real question is whether such material is harmful or dangerous to our society. Many people are asking whether or not we should censor offensive material. They believe that some material is too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The critics of this point of view think that private sector censorship will not be enough. They believe that the entertainment industry will not be able to control itself. Private sector restrictions do not have the authority of the law, therefore they cannot successfully draw the line between what can and cannot be said in public. The third and final possible solution is no censorship at all. While many Americans are troubled by what they feel is offensive speech, and feel that it should be restricted by law, advocates of the third solution disagree. They feel that there is more harm in restricting free speech than by the offensive speech itself. In the bill of rights, the first amendment says, Congress shall make no long abridging the freedom of speech. The first amendment was intended to protect the minorities from the tyranny of the majorities. The advocates of this view feel that the minority has a right to express themselves regardless of the opinion of the majority. Free speech matters because it encourages creativity. • 24. Christopher Columbus the Liar The letter Christopher Columbus wrote back to Spain to report his findings in the New World sparked intrigued me and sparked my imagination. Why I have been so absorbed in this letter I can not explain. This letter is supposed to be about describing an unknown land, a land that has not been seen by anyone besides the natives, but it seems that there is more to it than that. Columbus is known in elementary schools as the man who found the New World, and is regarded as a hero. To the contrary, historians who have done more research on Columbus say that he was driven by fame and fortune and that he was tyrannical in his ways with the indigenous peoples of the places that he came to find. I feel that the contradictory tones Columbus uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I then took it to another level. As fascinated as Columbus was with what he saw, he did not want the king and queen to think that he thought the new world was more beautiful than Spain itself. To think that this New World could be more beautiful than mother Spain, could be treason and he could not describe this place to the king and queen without mentioning Spain s beauty. So, as unnecessary as it may seem to me to describe these islands in relation to Spain, Columbus may have been using a bit of tactic behind his seemingly innocent poetry. In trying to save himself from seeming treasonous, Columbus had to use a little poetry to compare the New World to Spain. In the quote, the place Columbus was describing seems divine and majestic, almost like heaven, but then he just relates all this beauty to Spain in the month of May. Is Spain really that beautiful in the month of May, or is Columbus just trying to make the monarchs believe that Spain is just as majestic and divine. This line alone, seemingly insignificant, may have dampened Columbus s description of the New World, just to please a few monarchs. In the following paragraphs, Columbus explains how timid and afraid the native peoples are of all of his men. Columbus makes himself seem so noble and so generous to these people, by giving them gifts and not allowing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I found this video on YouTube a couple months back when it was released in July and found it quite interesting. The specific still I m using from the video is shown towards the end of the video when the camera completely zooms out revealing all the sleeping bodies. One of the main reasons this image captured my attention and caught me off guard was because of the people featured in the video and the fact that they were all completely naked. Here is a little bit of background on the song itself. During the 2009 VMAs Taylor Swift won the award for Best Female Video over Beyonce who was also nominated for the same category. As Taylor was giving her acceptance speech, Kanye came onto the stage and interrupted her by saying that Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time. Because of this historical moment (if you will) Kanye claims that Taylor Swift is only famous because of him. It was mainly because most of the Asian countries had been enjoying economic growth prior to the crisis. The crisis itself started with the devaluation of Thailand s Baht in July 1997. The Thailand government decided to float its currency in order to defend the Baht against speculative attack, despite its fixed exchange rate system. This decision was apparently the beginning of the economic downturn of many Asian countries, such as Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Indonesia. Before the crisis, Indonesia s economy was growing rapidly; having a low inflation and a well maintained current account deficit. However, Indonesia surprisingly became the country that was affected the most by the crisis. This paper aims to examine the effects of the Asian financial crisis in 1997 1998 to Indonesian economy and how it could happen. After Thailand floated the baht in 1997, Indonesia s monetary widened its currency trading band. It changed the exchange rate regime from floating exchange rate to free floating exchange rate, causing the Rupiah and the stock market to decline. The rupiah started to depreciate to 4,000 Rupiah/USD, and dropped dramatically to over 11,000 Rupiah/USD on January 1998. Endorsed by 168 countries, the document promotes 3 main aims: the integration of DRR into viable development policies and planning, building resilience to hazards and incorporating risk reduction methodologies into the implementation of emergency preparedness, response and recovery programmes (GNDR, 2014). In order to achieve these goals, the framework states 5 priorities of action: 1) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, one point that everyone agrees on is that the HFA has achieved very much in giving greater momentum to DRR worldwide. Judging by the stable growth of the number of countries reporting their progress on HFA implementation, from 27 countries in 2007, to 77 in 2009 and over 100 in 2011 (GNDR, 2014), and by the overall rise in their quality, it is easy to see the increase of interest towards achieving HFA goals. Moreover, the continuous increase in participants at conferences related to disasters can also point to a new level of popularity of DRR, thanks in no small part to the Framework. There has also been some well documented progress towards accomplishing the first priority of action, with a growing number of nations updating their existing laws based on HFA standards, including Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Egypt, etc. (Oxfam International, 2011). Also, the number of National Platforms enacted across the world has increased from 38 in 2007 to 73 in 2011 (Oxfam International, 2011), while the number of HFA Focal Points for HFA implementation has risen from 63 to 192, indicating a clear commitment to the standards and provisions of the Hyogo Framework for Action. Nonetheless, there is yet to be seen some significant headway in harmonizing legislative frameworks in other sectors, such as water resources, agriculture, etc. with the new laws, which sometimes can lead to key difficulties in disaster risk management. The most important accomplishment of the HFA is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Demon Lover And The Disturbing Lover Marriage has been an important aspect of life for thousands of years. While the world has not always married people formally, the link between a wife, her husband, and both their families has been a significant part of history; however, things change. Many women cheat and have children that are not their husbands . It has been a problem since Mesopotamian society; at least, that is as far back as society can trace it. Ancient societies started making laws against the adultery of a woman and punished them for cheating. While the laws have disappeared, adultery has still continued through history. Both the The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen and the Scottish ballad The Daemon Lover deliver messages in order to warn women to stay faithful to their partners, no matter the circumstances. Bowen s The Demon Lover expresses a warning to women during times of war. The story takes place at the beginning of World War 2 and tells the tale of a woman, Mrs. Drover, who remarried after her fiance was presumed dead during his time in the war, but many years later, received a letter from him. She was awestruck, but she had a husband and kids ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both stories have the woman remarry and have kids (though the number of kids varies) and the woman reunites with the man in some form, whether through the letter in Bowen s story or in person in the ballad. Also, the end of the stories are similar, the ballad ends in the sinking of the ship and the couple going to hell and Bowen s story ends in the taxi speeding away without mercy, (arguably) taking the taxi driver, the Devil, and Mrs. Drover to hell. Both stories varied in details. The number of children changed and the story of the woman changes. The ballad is more straight to the point and conveys the message quickly in contrast to The Demon Lover in which the story is more descriptive and is left to deeper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
