This document provides an overview of an ECBC Training Workshop organized by the USAID ECO-III Project and Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The workshop aims to provide awareness, administrative guidance, technical guidance, and resources on India's Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC). It covers the global and Indian energy scenarios driving the need for the ECBC. The workshop also outlines the various modules to be covered, including ECBC awareness, scope and compliance, building envelope systems, HVAC, lighting, and demonstrating compliance. Nationwide mandatory enforcement of the ECBC is estimated to yield annual energy savings of 1.975 billion kWh in the first year.

Buildings contribute impact on CO2 emission and energy consumption. Electric energy
consumption in buildings is about 40% of the total energy consumption of India. In this work building
simulation technology is used to evaluate a variety of envelope thermal characteristics and low carbon
technology in an integrated manner at the early design stage itself to assist the delivering of sustainable
green buildings with a high rating of performance and energy consumption. Building simulation enables
designer to identify the key energy loads, test their strategies and compare permutation of design strategy
in order to optimize the energy consumption.
Design Builder (DB) software is used to carry out a series of sensitivity analysis on set of design
parameters, with an aim to achieve a comfortable and energy efficient building. Several parametric studies
have been conducted to enable building designers to carry out analysis of energy efficient building model
related to building orientation, construction, air infiltration, natural ventilation, window type, openings,
and lighting. To calculate the energy saving, basic condition of building model is compared with Energy
Conservation Building Code (ECBC) building model. Consider basic condition of building is case A and
condition of building according to ECBC is case B.

The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

24. BACKGROUND: Energy Conservation Act 2001
» Government of India - creation of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)
» Powers and Functions of BEE vis-à-vis ECBC
• Prescribe ECBC for efficient use of energy
• Take suitable steps to prescribe guidelines for ECBC
• Link Energy Performance Index (from the EC Act) to the ECBC Prescriptive Compliance Approach
in order to facilitate the implementation of the Code
[On Page 5, clause (j) of the EC Act, 2001 currently reads:
"energy conservation building codes" means the norms and standards of energy consumption expressed in terms
of per square meter of the area wherein energy is used and includes the location of the building]
» Power of State Government:
The State Govt., in consultation with BEE, may
• amend ECBC to suit the regional and local climatic conditions with respect to use of energy in

• A typical “Class A Office” building consumes 150 kWh/m2/year.
» Mandatory enforcement of ECBC shall reduce the energy use by 30-40% to 120-160 kWh/m2/year
» Nationwide Mandatory enforcement of ECBC will yield energy saving of 1.975 billion kWh in the
1st Year itself
