In early 2014 we upgraded JASPAR, the largest open-access, manually curated, database storing transcription factor (TF) binding profiles (PMID:24194598), and are in the process of preparing the 2016 release. A new BioPython module dedicated to accessing and using TF binding profiles stored in JASPAR is available, which we will introduce in the first portion of the webinar.
In the second part of the webinar, we will introduce the MANTA (Mongodb for the ANalysis of Tfbs Alteration) database we used for the analysis of cis-regulatory somatic mutations in B-cell lymphomas (PMID:25903198). The database stores positions of predicted TFBSs in ChIP-seq data using JASPAR TF binding profiles. We will describe the database and how to access and use it.

- 3. DESKTOP COMPUTER Features Difficult to move, kept in one place. All components are with the tower, however input and output devices are separate. Connected to a network using a wire though can be wireless. Components can be built into the monitor casing on some computers. Usually powered by main electricity Need to be placed on a secure surface and usually securely fixed to prevent stealing. Purpose Office based tasks: • Writing letters • Reports • Memos • Using Spreadsheets and databases • Creating presentations Can also be used to: • Browse the internet • Create websites • Edit audio and video files
- 4. LAPTOP COMPUTER Features Lighter than a desktop and easier to transport. Basic input and output devices are inbuilt. Optical storage devices are built in to most laptops. Can be powered by either mains electricity or via battery power. Connection to a network is usually wireless, however can be wired. Can be easily damaged in transport or stolen. Purpose Can be used to complete office based tasks, much like a desktop. They are very useful for: • Sending and receiving emails • Instant messaging • Live web chat. Have the ability to complete any task a desktop can with the advantage of mobility, allowing staff to work from anywhere.
- 5. NET BOOK COMPUTER Features Smaller and lighter than a laptop. Basic input and output devices are built in. Usually lower specification than desktops and laptops. Have no inbuilt optical drives so cannot use CDs or DVDs. Limited ability to run software as has less memory. Can be powered by mains or battery. Usually connects to a network wirelessly, but can be wired. Purpose Can complete basic office tasks. Best suited to the following tasks: • Sending and receiving email • Instant messaging • Live web chat • Browsing the internet
- 6. TABLET COMPUTER Features Smaller and lighter than laptops and netbooks, highly portable. Tablets do not require a physical keyboard or mouse. Instead a touchscreen allows access to digital versions. Responds to various touch gestures to give better access to the on screen information. Runs a series of apps, mostly specifically designed for tablet computers. Powered solely by a battery to allow for mobility. Can be used while charging. Can store files but often uses cloud storage for back up. Purpose Most office tasks can be completed on a tablet, however the software can be difficult to use due to changes in the user interface. Tablets are mostly used for: • Sending a receiving emails • Instant messaging • Live web chat • Browsing the web • Viewing photos or images

SMARTPHONE Features Extremely portable mobile computer that combines: • Mobile phone • Diary and calendar functions • Web browser • Media player for video and audio • Wireless and mobile internet access • Digital camera • GPS system • Touchscreen • Ability to run Apps Storage capability including cloud storage and expandable media. Constant development of business related apps. Purpose Mainly used for keeping contact. Typically: • Telephone conversations • Keeping personal and business diaries • Using apps for various functions • Sending and receiving emails • Web browsing
