Comparing Beowulf And Captain America
What is a hero? As a society we have many ideals of them and with the recent events, whether they
are real, War on Terror, The persecution of our emergency responders, the upcoming political
races; or are simply all the new superhero movies coming out, the definition of a hero is somewhat
vague. Looking at Beowulf, however and comparing him to Captain America, a revisit of an old
comic book, we can see that though times have changed, our idea of the prefect hero, which these
stories seem to describe to us remain largely unchanged. In the opening part of Beowulf, a fiend
of hell, began to do evil. The grim demon (Lines 100 102). This monster is Grendel and he seeks
the utter destruction of Heorot Hall and the warriors within. Captain America s greatest foe is the
Red Skull, a man that seeks to take over the world during World War Two. The similarities are very

In such wise, manfully, the mighty prince, treasure warden of heroes, paid for shocks of battle
with steeds and treasure (1047). As time goes on each hero fights more battles gaining more
renown. In time Beowulf becomes a king, whereas Captain America stays as he is, a simple
Captain in the U.S. military. Another large difference between these heroes is there last battles.
Captain America has no plans of dying in his last battle, but when he sees that the only way to
assure victory is to sacrifice himself he does so with no hesitation and no thought of himself.
Beowulf goes into his last battle knowing very well that he will not survive as he is old now.
Beowulf dies knowing that his life was full and good and is glad it ends with honor I have ruled
the people fifty years; no folk king was there of them that dwelt about me durst touch me with his
sword or cow me through terror (2734 2736). I may have joy of it

The Psychosexual Stages Of Development
Psychosexual Stages of Development In the second essay of his Three Essays on Sexuality
(1905), Freud theorized that every child is born with innate sexual impulses that develop as the
child grows. He proposed stages of psychosexual development that each child goes through until
he or she reaches puberty. This chapter investigates if these stages of development are in fact,
universal and the nature of their presence in the cultural society of Hindu India. According to
Freud (1905), the new born child s innate sexual impulses can only be observed in the child once
he reaches the age of three. He stated that the development of this infantile sexuality took place
in a periodic and oscillating manner after a brief period of development, it is suppressed in a
state of latency till the sexual development takes over. Although he states that he does not know
the reason for this pattern, he also adds that it is during this period of latency that the aesthetic
and moral ideals develop which by feelings of disgust and shame restrict the flow of the sexual
instinct. These ideals develop inherently, even without any help from external education. While the
impulses are not ceased entirely during the period of latency, their energy is diverted to other ends
by the process of sublimation and results in the development of the individual (ibid: 176). While
the final outcome of the sexual development is the pursuit of pleasure from a single, primary
erotogenic source directed towards a

Social Media Platform Twitter
As such, for a game that may seek to reach an audience beyond the people that understand the
meaning of the logo, it is important to design a logo that cuts across different languages. On the
other hand, in South Africa, where this application was primarily created for, the logo would
easily understood and convey the message of the game because it is in the local dialect. Also,
since the game is originally a traditional Southern African board game that is played, the text
used as the logo is easily understood in their environment. I would conclude that the application
would have been more intuitive if it had an icon since its target was for different countries aside
South Africa. Twitter is a native application that also runs on the android platform. Twitter is a
social media networking application for friends, family and coworkers to communicate and stay
connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages. The twitter application was
designed with an icon. This design from my perspective has its pros and cons. I would say the
first view made me think it was a game with birds. This is why I think an icon used in this
perspective was not the right choice. On the other hand, using a text in the scenario which is
likely to be a styled way of writing Twitter would not be the best design either. However, since the
name Twitter is a bird that gives a call consisting of repeated light tremulous sounds, it is easier to
understand why the logo is a bird.

The Programming Of Programming Language Generations
Question (P1.1)
1) What is a programming language generations?
The programming language generation is divided in 5 parts:
1 Generation programme language is Machine Language (or Binary)
According to (Net industry, 2015) First Generation is the lowest level of a computer language.
Computers were programmed by scientists using front control panels equipped with toggle switches
in 1940s to 1950s.
In First generation programming language computer (was and still) converting information given
by a programmer into a binary numbers which is a combinations of 0s and 1s as there was no
translator used to compile or assemble the information given. The advantage of programming is
that, the code could run very and efficiently precise as the information are executed directly by the
CPU.
The disadvantages in low level languages is when an error occurs the code was not easy to fix. It
could take a week to change and run the program.
Everything a programmer type on the computer the CPU convert them to a machine language
which is a combination of 0s and 1s.
Understanding how computers process information given into a binary number in order to
understand is not easy. An example been given bellow.

Case Study Of Ford Pinto
Abstract:
This case is about the design of Ford Pinto specifically the gas tank that was in a dangerous place
that would ignite the car in a rear end collision. The problem is that Ford used a cost benefit
analysis not to upgrade the fuel system even if it lead to more deaths. This decision by Ford led to
many controversial issuses that relates to safety, risk, and conflict of interest decisions.

behind these studies is the collection of past studies will allow for greater generalization. We

Application Software
Application software, also known as an application or an app , is computer software designed to
help the user to perform specific tasks. Application software is contrasted with system software and

apply them in the performance of tasks that benefit the user. The system softwareserves the
application, which in turn serves the user.()Application software is usually designed for end users

Specialty software
Specialty software operates the same as other software, but is tailor to a specially job or task. Many
jobs require specially software to perform their duties like, engineers uses computer aided design
(CAD) for process of design and design documentation. Project mangers use specially software to
estimation and planning, scheduling, cost control and budget management, resource allocation,
collaboration software, communication, quality management and documentation or administration

Interpersonal Communication Essay
Interpersonal communication is the technique we use to communicate our ideas, thoughts and
feelings to one and other. (Eunson 2012:256) People use visual, written, oral, sense and nonverbal
means to communicate. Individuals have communicated with each other for centuries through the
medium of letters, telephone, groups with public speaking and one to one conversations. With the
introduction of mass media ideas could spread to larger audiences however the means of imparting
information required high level skills and equipment not available to the individual. The highly
effective tools of the mass media have now become the tools of the individual to use in the digital
age to help with interpersonal communication. Electronic communication has... Show more content

The internet enables communication in two ways with instant feedback, whilst the broadcast and
print media is only one and feedback is limited. The effective tools of broadcast media have now
become the tools for interpersonal communication.

With the population growing and our
network expanding rapidly throughout the world, electronic communication has benefited people
immensely. It gives them the privilege to share and connect globally with anyone, like distance
family members, friends and work colleagues through various social networking websites such as
Twitter, Flickr, Google+ and Facebook. An interpersonal communication technique such as visual
communication is used regularly in these websites. Being able to see your social group s latest
photos and video which are updated daily, lets you feel more connected to people you don t see in
person often. (Sless 1987:187) Another form of visual communication is through visual aids to
convey ideas and information in ways that can be read orlooked upon. It includes signs, typography,
drawings, graphic design and electronic resources. It aims to communicate through personal
perspective. If the viewer has an opinion about an image purely based on their personal thoughts
they respond differently in their thoughts and values as someone else might. (Smith 2005:12)
Electronic communication is commonly used in business meetings. Using various modes as power

methodological limitations in tests of contact theory. As well as how prior social contact with
interracial individuals at a young age, leads to those same individuals continuing to have friends
that are also interracial during adulthood. They also look further into behaviors and attitudes and
how they link to the contact theory. The methods used in this study included the 1999 2000 Lilly

By 1825 the population had doubled to 10 million people. Early on the nation was how Jefferson
had wanted it. Farmers remained strong in rural areas. As the 1800 s progressed an increasing
number of Americans were swept up in economic changes of the Industrial Revolution. Political
conflicts over tariffs, internal improvements, the Bank of the U.S. reflected the importance to
people s lives of a national economy that was rapidly growing and changing. By the time the
election happened, laws about voting had changed. White men were now able to vote without
having to own land like they previously were required to. The candidates went from state to state

Recycling Bins In Public Places Essay
This image may seem familiar. Walking down the street and noticing endless rows of trash cans
in which to throw away your garbage. But have you ever thought about why there aren t many
recycling bins in public places. The reason for this is that the prices of recycling are booming. In
turn, less and less people are wanting to pay these extreme prices. The lack of recyclingin public
places leads to many problems like high costs of production, loss of resources, land overfill, and
numerous more. Because there aren t many recycling bins in public places, people aren t as
encouraged to recycle which is harmful for the environment. Some may argue that a greater
amount of people recycle because the availability of recycling is increasing year by year. But
still, ...according to Ipsos Public Affairs survey, only half of adults recycle daily (Schumaker 1).
WIth so few people recycling, there are more ways that we are destroying our environment. Since
these adults aren t recycling, our youth will continue to follow their ways and will expand the
problem. Teaching children, who are our future, to recycle gives our country a better chance at
improving our environment. The ratio from trash bins to recycling bins is yet to be remotely
balanced. There are plenty more trash cans at public venues compared to recycling bins. If there
were more recycling bins in public places, then it would motivate more people to recycle. The
United States needs to figure out a method to make more

Essay on Teaching Philosophy Statement
Teaching Philosophy Statement Teaching is not a profession; it s a passion. Without passion for
your subject and a desire for your students to learn and be the best in the world, then we have
failed as a teacher and failure is not an option. John F. Podojil. In my opinion, this quotation is
very true. If you do not have the passion to teach your students what is right in the world and what
makes them be the best they can be, then you are not really teaching your students or you have
failed and failure is not an option. I want to not only teach my students important subject manner

When I first thought about this I thought, Oh my God, I m going to be a role model for most of
the male students in my class! It s kind of overwhelming when you think about it. But then I
thought, I m a great guy and a good hearted individual; I have nothing to worry about except for
maybe the first day! My teaching style will be an eclectic blend of all the teaching philosophies, I
think my main teaching philosophy will mostly be a mix of essentialism and existentialism. As a
K 8 teacher I feel that you should teach the traditional subjects to students this helps to develop
their character, which will affect them for the rest of their lives in society. I also believe that
students should be able to express themselves in some way throughout the school year by the
means of playing games to help them learn to do things and being able to have at least once during
the school year a talent day in which the students show their many talents. I might also have the
students keep a journal throughout the school year so that they can express their own personal
thoughts and feelings for the day on paper. This sometimes helps with students who have emotional
problems or problems with other students in the class get their thoughts out so that there may not
be as many fights as there could be. I will use direct and indirect methods of learning to teach my

Why The Bathroom Is A Basic Necessity
Going to the bathroom is a basic necessity that everyone does. With this necessity comes the need
for bathrooms so the person can conduct their business in a safe and clean environment. However,
this right is not available to everyone in some cultures. Women in India still lack a proper place to
relieve themselves on a daily basis, which forces them to defecate in the open, causing rape, illness
and health problems, improper feminine hygiene, shame and humility.
Rape and vulnerability are some of the greatest concerns the women face. In May of 2014, in
Katra village in Uttar Pradesh state, two sisters were found hanging in a mango tree after they
were gang raped (Hjelmgaard). The two girls, aged 14 and 15, had gone into the fields near where
they lived because there was no toilet in their home (Hjelmgaard). The girls deaths could have
been easily prevented if they had a toilet in their home (McCarthy). These girls were not alone.
Goldberg adds that, Every 30 minutes a woman in India is raped, and it s often the impoverished
women who relieve themselves in the open who are targeted. To avoid being preyed upon, the
women now go in pairs or groups to the fields to relieve themselves. As another precaution, they go
before dawn and then hold it until dark (McCarthy).
Holding in your shit or urine can lead to more problems. Holding in urine encourages bacterial
growth and increases the risk of developing a urinary tract infection (UTI). Frequent UTIs can also
lead to

Impact Of A Baby On Teenage Mothers
Becoming a mother changes a woman s life forever, as you now have a child who depends on
you for love and for a stable environment. Being a teenage mother is even more hard work, as a
lot of the time the young girls have not even grown up themselves. Today I will be exploring the
impact bringing a baby into the world has on a teenager s life. As part of this research, a survey
was conducted in order to find out first hand the impact becoming a motherhad on a group of
teenage girls.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Money is one of the biggest impacts on teenage pregnancy. The cost to prepare for a baby (cot,
change table, pram, clothes, nappies etc.) and prenatal care as well as the other expenses
involved in bringing up a child can pose vast financial hardships for teenage mothers. Often girls
are forced to drop out of school in order to work so they can provide for their baby, but can find it
difficult to find decent jobs since they did not complete their schooling. A high percentage of teen
parents have to rely on welfare payments to support their families, but these payments are often
barley enough to survive on (Home Remedies for you, 2017). Some teenage mothers even rely on
their parents to help financially support them, which can make them feel guilty for having to rely
on their parents. In worse case scenarios, some teenage mothers may find it difficult to even
provide the proper nutrition and care for their babies (Kamalasanan, 2012). In the survey conducted,
many girls

Key Differences Between Sleep Apnea And Obstructive Sleep
The topic that I chose is very dear to me personally. A few years ago, the year before I came to
Southeastern, I began to have sleeping issues. I would stay awake for all hours of the evening
and would become restless. At first glance, I thought that I had sleep insomnia and in the
mornings, even if I got six to eight hours of sleep I would still wake up completely exhausted. It
never mattered what I was doing, even if I would take a nap, the end results were the same:
complete exhaustion upon waking up. After several months of this I began to complain to my
parents and tell them that I felt that something was wrong with my sleeping. They never believed
me at the beginning. After the summer, they still were unable to do much about my sleeping... Show

Sleep apnea is characterized in a similar manner to hypopnea, a lack of airflow and oxygen levels
at night whilst sleeping. However there are some key differences. Sleep hypopnea is a part of
the obstructive sleep apnea family, and therefore has to deal with any obstructions that occur in
the airways whilst sleeping (Phillips, 2015). Central sleep apnea, is another type of sleep apnea
that can occur in people. This apnea is very different from obstructive sleep apnea. This apnea is
caused because the brain temporarily fails to signal to the muscles that are in charge of
controlled breathing. Obstructive sleep apnea is referred to as a mechanical problem, whereas
central sleep apnea is referred to as a communication problem (Phillips, 2015). Central sleep
apnea is much less common than obstructive sleep apnea and it can be caused by medical
conditions that affect the brainstem. The symptoms of central sleep apnea are very similar to
obstructive sleep apnea: stopping breathing or irregular breathing during sleep, shortness of
breath leading to awakenings, chronic fatigue, excessive daytime drowsiness, morning
headaches, poor/restless sleep, difficulty concentrating, mood changes, and snoring (Phillips,
2015). The treatment for central sleep apnea is by using a CPAP machine or a BPAP machine
(which is very similar to a CPAP), certain medications have also been known to help stimulate
proper breathing whilst sleeping (Phillips, 2015). Finally, the last kind of sleep apnea that can
occur is complex sleep apnea. This type of sleep apnea is a mixture of obstructive sleep apnea
and central sleep apnea. Essentially, this type of apnea occurs because of slight obstruction and the
brain failing to properly inform the muscles to breathe (Phillip, 2015). BPAP machines and
Adaptive servo ventilators have shown successful use as the machines are capable of performing a

Asian American Ethnic Studies Essay
As the immigrant population currently projected to overtake latinxs and hispanics as largest
group of residents in the United States of America, Asian Americans have shown their will to
survive in a way that many groups have not, and that is by banding together in order to achieve
the life they deserve. Taking the overgeneralization of pan ethnicity and using it as a device for
increased numbers and support for the causes of a group of people who otherwise may not have
much to do with each other, is a testament to how vulnerable they must have felt as well as how
successful they have managed to be many aspects of progress. What I have gained from this course
is the understanding that at the root of ethnic studies and the Asian Americancommunity is the for

communities as social, political and cultural, structures, collectives and groups which came out of
an obligation and necessity to protect those immigrants and their future generations from a country

Myth Of The Aztecs
A diminutive tribe called the Aztecs strolled around northwestern Mexico up until AD 1116. As
claimed by one legend, the Aztec god of the sun and war, Huitzilopochtli, ordered their people to
advance south until they found a new everlasting home. He said that their new home would be
marked with a discernible indication. The sign was an eagle on a cactus with a snake in his
mouth. It took the tribe more than a hundred years of searching. Finally, a priest found the sign in
the Valley of Mexico. However, other people already lived there. They didn t want to allocate their

The Importance Of Clinical Audit
The aim of the Nursing and midwifery council is to regulate nurses and midwives in England,
Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.(Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2016). The NMC is set to
protect the public and to represent and campaign on behalf of nurses and midwives. (Nursing and
Midwifery Council, 2016). Furthermore the NMC regulates healthcare setting and
hospitals, regulates healthcare assistants and also set staffing level to ensure high quality of care the
first time round for service users.(Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2016).
Clinical Audit was introduced to the NHS in 1993. The 1997 White Paper The New NHS
reinforced the position of Clinical Audit as an essential element of professional practice in the health
service.(Dartford and Gravesham NHS trust, 2017).Clinical audit is a way to find out if
healthcare is being provided in line with standards and care providers and patients know where
their service is doing well, and where there could be improvements.Clinical audits play a part in
implementing clinical standards, clinical guidelines and evidence based medicines. The NHS
England however defines clinical audit as a way to find out if healthcare is being provided in
line with standards and let s care providers and patients know where their service is doing well,
and where there could be improvements. (NHS England, 2016) The aim of clinical audit is to

Examples Of Evil In Beowulf
Hero vs Evil
The idea of good and evil presented in Beowulf is hard to capture, by the things he does. He is an
idea of a not humble hero. Everyone wants to be hero of the story and being the center of
attention. Who doesn t want to feel respected or looked up too? Compared to other heroes he wasn
t chosen for the job, he does it to get something out of it.
He doesn t have the quality of being modest, putting the needs of another person before your own.
In the story he makes the people think he does, but in reality he just likes how society gives him

When they fight or protected people, they didn t expect nothing back. Compared to old hero
generation like Beowulf it s different. Beowulf is someone arrogant and way to confident about
himself. He is not a humble hero. He is an outsider and comes in and knows that the king has

First 11 Paragraph Essay
The first 11 paragraphs provide the exposition for the story. Why is the information gained about
Sammy at the beginning of the story vital to the story s development? There is a lot of
information gained from the first 11 paragraphs like how he acts and how he talks. You can tell
that he is informal in the style of the writing because in the first paragraph he talks about how a
customer starts giving him hell when he makes a mistake while typing in the cash register.
Normally in a story it is very formal and they may not even bring that detail into the story. We
also learn in the 11 paragraphs that he a cashier in the 1960 s. You can infer that it is set in the
1960 s because he make mistakes in the register and in modern times they tend not to make

in other words, I think he has a very strong charisma of his personality because he continuously
tries to examine the three girls that walk into the grocery store. With that, I ll believe he is
strong and compassionate feelings for the girls because he because continues just tries to think
about different scenarios. He also shows Great compassion for the girls because he quits his job

Issues Dealing With Migrating And Appalachian Clients
In cross cultural practice, Harper Dorton and Lantz (2007) discuss issues dealing with Migrating
and Appalachian Clients, but don t talk about Mexicans migrating from Mexico. In chapter 10
Migrating and Appalachian Clients, it doesn t really talk about how Mexicans cross the border
putting their life at risks. This would be something I would have liked to read in the chapter
talking about Mexicans as well not just Puerto Ricans and Vietnamese. As I read this article I
found out that it had good information that stood out to me as pursing my social work degree,
talked about: human rights, social work practice with immigrants, also macro practice and policy
advocacy for immigrationreform. As I searched for a scholarly journal article on my heritage I
found one called Deaths in the Desert: The Human Rights Crisis on the U.S. Mexico Border
David Androff Kyoko Tavassoli (2012). With just the title alone it explains what the article is
going to be about. Facts about the desert talked about in this article are that during the summer
temperatures get up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit and in the winter falls below 32 degrees
Fahrenheit (Androff Tavassoli 2012). This is not safe for humans because there is a lack of
sources like no water or food; this is what causes the deaths during the migrating process in the
Sonoran desert. Immigrants knowing that they are going to pass through the desert still don t think
about food and water they do not leave prepared to cross the border,

My Passion In Music
My passion is music, and there isn t anything that beats it. I ve always done it as a kid. I started
off with guitar lessons at the age of 5 and just fell in love with the idea of putting your emotion
through chords and melodies. Although I may not have been a pro, I still enjoyed it no matter
what. Later on in my musical career, I realized a lot of musicyou create is all about owning what
you do. And trials after trials made me the musician I am today.
Our band named Saluda formerly named Rescue Party grew up in high school together playing
gigs every other night at the town s bars. It wasn t that hard to get these gigs because we were
really the only band in our town, Spartanburg. Our very first gig was at this small bar with about
5 or 6 people in the audience. Half of them weren t even listening but it was the first time we
could say we made money because of music, and that really got us motivated. We barely knew
what we were doing most of the time because we were just kids and had no knowledge about the
live music scene. We finally graduated and half of the band was in high school and the other half
college. It made us practice a lot less, but we grew a lot in our instruments. As I went through my
first year in college I became way more into the music. I was practicing 5 hours everyday on covers
and originals. This was making me grow so much as a musician.
Then we got our first big gig opening for the act Daya. We stressed a lot about this gig and practiced

Glucocorticoids Research Paper
Glucocorticoids are well known for their analgesic, anti inflammatory, immune modulating, and
antiemetic effects.
A.Anti Inflammatory and Immunosuppressive Effects
Glucocorticoids dramatically reduce the manifestations of inflammation. This is due to their
profound effects on the concentration, distribution, and function of peripheral leukocytes and to
their suppressive effects on the inflammatory cytokines and chemokines and on other mediators of
inflammation. Inflammation, regardless of its cause, is characterized by the extravasation and
infiltration of leukocytes into the affected tissue. These events are mediated by a complex series
of interactions of white cell adhesion molecules with those on endothelial cells and are inhibited by
glucocorticoids. After a single dose of a glucocorticoid, the concentration of neutrophils in the
circulation increases while the lymphocytes (T and B cells), monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils
decrease. The changes are maximal at 6 hours and are dissipated in 24 hours. The increase in
neutrophils is due both to the increased influx into the blood from the bone marrow and to the

gastrointestinal patients, perhaps because of a lack of proven efficacy in these patients. However,
its use is advocated in some enhanced recovery programs (ERAS) to improve recovery after

antiemetic properties arise due to activation of glucocorticoid receptors in the medulla, or by
inhibiting central production of prostaglandins or inhibiting the release of endogenous opioids. It is
also known to improve appetite, and in combination with reduced nausea and vomiting, aids early
recovery. Glucocorticoids can also reduce pain by suppression of bradykinin and neuropeptides

The Triton Fountain By Gian Lorenzo Bernini
The Triton Fountain was specially made for Pope Urban VIII Barberini by Gian Lorenzo
Bernini. The fountain is placed at the center of the piazza; the fountain represents the God of Sea
with anthropomorphic body and huge fish tail, kneeling on an open shell supported by the tails of
four dolphins. The dolphins, leaning towards each of the four cardinal directions, open their
mouths to swallow the water of the surrounding pool, telling us that they drink up all the waters of
the world. The fins of the dolphins clutch the crown of Urban VIII, with papal tiara, keys of St.
Peter, and Barberini bees. The Triton as the subject of this fountain is a very interesting choice.
According to many historical sources, PopeUrban VIII was a very talented poet, and he was very
well known for his pursuits in this field. Triton was someone who achieved a sacred unity with
nature and literature. And as we can see from the monument, the Triton was an appropriate public
monument to Pope Urban s distinguished literary accomplishments. On the other hand, this
explanation of the connection between Triton and Pope Urban is not effective, and unquestionably
does not give us full information. American art historian John Beldon Scott has established that
Urban was suspicious of pagan imagery for fear it might lead the faithful astray. This suggests that
the Triton Fountain may imply to something more significant than just the simple literary symbol.
Also, it is important to mention that at least three

The Political Frame Essay
Buck Morss argues in The Political Frame that those societies claiming to be democratic often
operate with power out of control of the masses. This wild zone is above the law, because it is a
function of the state that makes the law. This relates to Buck Morss next point on the issue of
sovereignty and legitimacy of a state.
According to the nation state societies, the state monopoly on violence is legitimate because it is
operated by legislation. The laws are written by those elected by the people, therefore popular
sovereignty and popular will are the same. However, this fails to explain the violence and is an
unsteady point. The state is both defender and creator of law, and therefore shifts that power
towards itself. According to the class warfare model, the violence is explained by the revolution
and the constant struggle between classes. This, however, does not explain its legitimacy.
According to Marx, the secret exercise of class of interests cannot be the basis of legitimacy. ...

A source of legitimacy is the right to wage war because of all that war entails: an enemy and
violence, namely. By defining an enemy, the state brings a collective into being. Buck Morss
notes the war powers rights during times of crises, where the enemy is seen as dangerous enough
to develop the wild zone, that part of democracy removed from the people. Any challenge to the
collective status quo is therefore an act against the collective and an enemy action. Therefore, the
display of violence is a legitimate expression of democratic sovereignty despite the inherently non
democratic nature of the exercise. According to Buck Morss, war risks the life or death of the
collective itself. Therefore, the nondemocratic power is stronger in

Punishment Is The Punishment An Individual
Retribution can be described with these two words: Deserved Punishment. Retribution is the
punishment an individual receives contingent upon the severity of their wrong doings. They must
pay their debts . The authors of the text Criminal Justice in America mentions that if the government
fails to sentencethe individual to an appropriate amount of punishment, society will take the
situation into their own hands (Cole, Smith and DeJong 277). If a murderer receives 5 years in
prison, the family of the victim(s) would feel like justice wasn t served and would probably resort
to their own type of retribution (Cole, Smith and DeJong 277). Punishment is the ethical response
to harm inflicted on the society. What this means is, if society... Show more content on

As rational individuals, we weigh the consequences of our actions versus the benefits of our actions.
The more severe the punishment of the potential crime, the higher chance that individuals will be
deterred. If a petty thief receives an 8 year minimum sentence along with a high fine, the severity of
this punishment will deter others from committing the same crime. Also, the severity of the
punishment of the first time offense must be severe enough to deter the same individual from
committing another crime. The downside of the deterrence theory is that it assumes that everyone
thinks before they act (Cole, Smith and DeJong 278). Individuals who are mentally unstable or
have psychological problems aren t accounted for.
Another major goal of punishment is incapacitation. Incapacitation deprives an offender from the
ability to commit crimes by detaining them in prison. Both deterrence and incapacitation focuses on
the potential of a crime occurring in the future. But with incapacitation, the offender is kept in
prison and won t be given another chance in society until they have proven that they will no longer
commit crimes (Cole, Smith and DeJong 278). Being punished by incapacitation is dependent upon
the nature of the crimes committed in the past and how extensive the offender s criminal record is
(Cole, Smith and DeJong 278). There are some difficulties with this form of punishment because

The Final Count Is Correct
The final count is correct is a common statement that operating room (OR) nurses use daily. This
statement is a signal of safety for closing the patient s operative site. The occurrence of a retained
surgical item (RSI) was the most frequently reported sentinel event from 2010 through 2012 and
again in 2014 (The Joint Commission [TJC], 2012, 2014). Counting of surgical items is necessary
to provide protection and safety of the patient. One of the highest priorities for the OR nurse is
assuring the final countof items used in the surgical procedure is accurate. Risk factors for RSIs
are greater with varying situations and barriers which often lead to inaccurate counts. Because
RSIs can lead to death, the Institute of Medicine produced a report in 1999 that was an ethical
call to arms for never events (Stawicki S. P. et al, 2013). At this time the institute challenged all
facilities to establish safety guidelines to help minimize complications that were deemed
preventable (Stawicki S. P. et al, 2013). RSIs were at the top of the list for risk. The Perioperative
Nursing Data Sets (PNDS) are professional guidelines developed and maintained by the
Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses. These guidelines outline the expectations for the
OR nurse to carry out while a patient is in their care. One item of the PNDS states the patient is

2.1.1Building the team
Tuckman (1965) suggested that there are 4 stages of development that a team will go through
which are forming, storming, norming and performing. The first stage forming is when people
come together to get to know each other and try to avoid conflict at the same time. During this stage
there should be no obvious issues for the manager because people are just trying to get to know
each other and trying to learn what to do next. On the other hand the situation on the following
stages could be more challenging. During the storming stage employee will start to have conflict
with each other. These conflicts could be caused by differences in culture and working style in
previous company where employee may find hard to adopt. If the problems were not fix properly
then it is possible that the team can stay together any longer. The third stage is when team
members had overcome all the conflicts and members started to bind together where they will be
supportive and respect each other. The general manager should be alerted at all times even at this
stage because may be people compromise only due to the fear of losing their job. They will then

Islam Is A Progressive Religion
Despite popular assumption, Islam is actually quite a progressive religion. Bioethics are not set in
stone, although some scholars as well as Muslims do have strong opinions about certain bioethical
subjects. In the twentieth century, there was a very limited amount of resources in the field of
Islamic bioethics. The twenty first century has marked an influx in research on Islamic bioethics
from both Muslim religious scholars as well as studies conducted by academic researchers (Ghaly
592). In the field of religious bioethics, there tends to be a significant amount of coverage on
certain topics. In Islamin particular, scholars and the public alike readily discuss abortion and
euthanasia (Brockopp 3). Although Islamic customs emphasize the importance of community,
Islamic theology in general promotes the individual, not communal, salvation. This means that in
many situations, there are guidelines for how one should act, but individual circumstances can
differ therefore warranting a private and individual action. Westerners often overlook this aspect of
Islam, as there are a lot of misconceptions revolving around Islam and the Muslim identity. In this
sense, despite there being general rules or guidelines Muslims tend to adhere to, there is still a
heavy balance between the general rules and individual circumstances; meaning that bioethics can
not be approached from only one view.
When looking at any issue, it is important to know whom exactly you are speaking about

something he views as his, no longer belongs to him. This is revealed earlier on with his fixation
of having her take his last name, thus marking her as his. Just like a true narcissist this brings
out a narcissistic rage in Henchard. He quickly begins to criticize and rage at her for anything
she does that reminds him of his former life. For example, her occasional pretty and picturesque
use of dialect words , which reveal her poor upbringing, force Henchard to think of his own past
when he too was poor (99). Though, quite hypocritically, though he is uncultivated himself he
becomes the bitterest critic the fair girl could possibly have had of her own lapses (100). He is
quick to rage and condemn Elizabeth Jane for her inability to completely erase the tongue of her
past, though ironically he can t erase his past either. Just like how Elizabeth Jane s accent
occasionally slips into her speech, similarly, Henchard s past throughout the novel continues to slip

Lucretius Influence On Religion
The first author I chose that shows Roman influence on the modern world is Lucretius. What is
strikingly modern about Lucretius analysis of death is that he incorporates science within
religion. This conceptualization of religion within a scientific context is relative to modern
thought. His works were read heavily within the 20th century which is the period where being
non religious was becoming increasingly popular. His philosophy does not contain the same
fundamental features the majority of contemporary religions have like an afterlife. Lucretius
writes, That shows that we have nothing to fear from death; Nothing can happen to the man who
is not there; It is just the same as if he had never been born . This idea of nothingness after death
is popular with those who have faith in science. The belief in science can be argued as a religion

This Roman influence transcends into the modern world where nationalism is vital in the creation
of new states. For example, during the decolonization period, countries used propaganda similar to
that of The Aeneid to strengthen their independence movement. Furthermore, actors within these
nations fought for the greater good of the building of their nation... like that of the building of
Rome. Vergil writes, ...to rule mankind, and make the world obey, disposing peace and war by thy

behind nationalistic movements. There is a desire to work together as individuals to develop their

Sugar is added to enhance the flavor of smokeless tobacco, increasing the risk for tooth decay ( It
May Be Smokeless 2). The sugar found in smokeless tobacco chemically reacts with the bacteria
naturally found on teeth, causing them to slowly decay. Other very common traits that smokeless
tobacco users have are bad breath, tooth discoloration, and sensitive teeth; all of these effects are
very common in abusive users and can be permanent if not cared for.
Also, the main reason these smokeless tobacco products are so dangerous is because of the all the
hazardous chemicals found inside them, such as nicotine. Nicotine is a chemical found in all
tobacco products that has many health effects on the human body. The difference between cigarette
users, who inhale nicotine containing smoke into the lungs, and smokeless users is that they absorb
the chemicals through their oral cavities, getting nicotine to eventually travel into their
bloodstreams. (Julie 1). As a matter of fact, users [of smokeless tobacco] generally absorb more
nicotine from smokeless tobacco products than from cigarettes (Julie 2). If more people were aware
of this fact, they would definitely think twice before chewing/dipping again. When individuals buy
any smokeless tobacco product on the market, they are also unknowingly purchasing the many
deadly chemicals that come with it. Furthermore, smokeless tobacco products are critically harmful

This experiment was setup to investigate the effects of temperature on the rate of respiration of
blowfly larvae.
Background Knowledge
The maggots involved in this investigation were blowflies at the larval stage of development, and
they breathe through spiracles in the anterior and posterior segments. The respiratory tracts are
not as developed at this stage, as the organism is not capable of flight, and so it respires less
oxygen than an adult blowfly. They feed on dead organic matter. The respiration of an organism
involves an intricate use of enzymes, and so some knowledge about them is necessary. ... Show

However, recent studies point towards the induced fit hypothesis, which means that the substrate
and the enzyme are not identical, yet in the presence of the substrate the active site changes slightly,
in order to make it a more snug fit. These theories pertain to a further point the fact that an enzyme
is specific; the majority just have one possible type of substrate molecule. An increase in
temperature affects the rate of an enzyme controlled reaction in two ways. First of all, the kinetic
energy of all of the molecules is increased, thus increasing their speed. If they move faster, they
have more chance of an enzyme colliding with a substrate molecule, and so reacting. This is
known as collision theory. The increase of rate can be determined by the Q10 law. This states that
for every 10 degrees in temperature in an enzyme controlled reaction, the rate of that reaction will
double, until 40 degrees is reached. After this point, the enzyme may start to denature. This is when
a certain factor affects the bonds holding the amino acids together, and they start to break,
eventually resulting in the enzyme unravelling. Generally this occurs between 40 and 60 degrees.
Equipment List

Personal Narrative-Changing Colors
I told you we shouldn t have gone to the park, angrily yelled Rose. Look on the flip side we
found a lighter that changes colors, coolly responded Derick. The lighter is probably dangerous
and we should throw it away. complained Rose. I think it might be magical, Derick reasoned.
Derick this is crazy there is no way that the lighter is magical, complained Rose. We could get
wishes from it if we tried to figure out how to do it, Derick calmly explained. Fine Derick, you can
try it, but I don t want to be around when you wishon it, stated Rose. Ok Rose, Derick agreed.
Derick took the lighter home with him. Derick had homework that he needed to finish before he
could practice for basketball. Derick was an athletic kid... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She wished on the flame that they could go back to their own bodies. Rose turned the lighter off
and started to feel a weird tingly feeling again. Before she could do anything she was standing in
her bedroom. She looked into her mirror to see that if she really had returned to her body. She
was holding her phone in her hand forgetting that Derick was still on the phone. Derick you
there? asked Rose. Yea I am here back in my own body, replied Derick. Good, I think we have only
one wish left. explained Rose. We should use it wisely replied Derick. Yea because if me make a
wish it could go horribly wrong and we wouldn t be able to change it back explained Rose.
Derick had the perfect wish. Derick s wish was to wish for everything to go back to normal
again. Rose I am going to wish for everything to go back to normal. explained Derick. That is a
good idea, Derick replied Rose. Thanks. said Derick. Derick wished for the everything to go
back to normal. Derick looked down at his hand and saw that the lighter wasn t there. Derick
started to look around to see if he had dropped the lighter on the ground. He couldn t find the
lighter anywhere. He started to retrace his steps to make sure he didn t drop it. Derick found out
that he didn t have the lighter

Diversity Is An Important Element Of The United States
Diversity is an important element of the United States of America, but also has been a topic
debated over for many years. The arrival of immigrants in the United States in the 19th and early
20th century created many problems with how to deal with new cultures and naturalization of
citizens of different races. These immigrants faced much adversity in the process of gaining
citizenship due to racial qualifications for naturalization and fitting into separate racecategories.
Since white was the superior racein the United States, immigrants fought to prove their
qualifications to fit into the white category in many ways. Throughout these struggles, the idea of
race was socially constructed by the Court during important naturalization... Show more content on

Thind was an Asian Indian, which was scientifically categorized by anthropologists as Caucasian
instead of Mongolian. Although his petition was initially granted, other characteristics of Thind
and his racial identity came into question. There was much debate over the unmistakable physical
differences between Hindus and others who were categorized as white. The Supreme Court leaned
towards the common knowledge aspect of evaluating racial differences instead of using science by
using physical characteristics to differ between whites and aliens. For example, Justice Sutherland
and the Court decided that the children born in this country of Hindu parents would retain
indefinitely the clear evidence of their ancestry, which links physical attributes to the Court s
social understanding of whiteness. The flexibility of processes involved in identifying race used in
these two cases lead to many questions and concerns about what it means to truly be white, and
how that is actually determined. Between these two cases, Justice Sutherland s legal definition of
whiteness determined the eligibility of both Ozawa and Thind for citizenship. However, his
oscillation between common and knowledge and scientific evidence to define who was qualified
for citizenship presented some questions of how large of a factor social prejudice

The Time Value Of Money Essay
Until Wednesday April 8, 2015 no country had ever offered a ten year bond that gave investors a
yield of less than zero percent. That was until Switzerland offered ten year bonds that lenders are
paying to hold. While many countries like the United States Federal Reserve are preparing to
increase interest rates, the European Central Bankis driving them down. The decreasing interest
rates have forced countries like Switzerland to offer negative yields on their bonds in order to keep
their currency from increasing too far about their Eurozone (European nation) neighbors. However,
this notion challenges the very fundamentals of investing in the bondmarket. Numerous countries
throughout the Eurozone and Europe are also seeing their yields turning negative. Whereas, various
European countries rates have only slightly fallen below zero, others continue to fall deeper into
negative territory. It appears that the time value of money (one of the fundamental cores of
investing) seems to count for very little throughout the European bond market.
Although Switzerland was the first to sell ten year bonds with negative interest rates several other
European countries (both inside and outside the Eurozone) have sold government debt securities
with negative yields. Up until now the highest government debt instrument were five year
maturities.
Switzerland s issuing of a ten year bond with a negative yield is only one of the numerous strange
monetary occurrences throughout the European

Paranthropus Boisei
Paranthropus boisei is also known as Australopithecus boisei. Paranthropus boisei lived in Eastern
Africa in countries such as Ethiopia at the Konso and Omo River basin, Kenya at Koobi Fora,
Chesowonja, and West Turkana, Tanzania at Olduvai Gorge and Peninj, and Malawi. Paranthropus
boisei lived about 2.3 to 1.2 million years ago. Paranthropus boisei is also known as being the most
robust of the robust australopithecines. Paranthropus boisei had humanlike features including a
strong sagittal crest that assisted in chewing by having a large bottom and top jaw, with large
molars and premolars. Paranthropus boisei also had flaring cheekbones and a cranial capacity that

was found in Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania in 1959 by Mary Leakey. This finding was 1.8 million
years old and is the most famous finding. It was the complete cranium of a male. Peninj

Kamoya Kimeu. There was a finding made in either 2010 or 2011 in Tanzania at Olduvia Gorge
that composed of bone fragments such as the ulna, tibia, and femur that gave more information
regarding the post cranial structure of paranthropus boisei. These findings helped prove that
paranthropus boisei was sexually dimorphic, more ruggedly built, showed signed of bipedalism,
and had some aboreal behaviors. After looking at many physical pictures and pictures of their skull,
paranthropus boisei do have resemblance of human characteristics.

Hydrochloric Acid Indigestion Lab Report
Introduction Antacid is in a form of medicine to help prevent and or correct the acidity level in
one s body, focusing mainly in the stomach. The stomach contains a solution of hydrochloric acid
with a pH level of approximately 1.5 ( Stomach par. 1). The use of hydrochloric acid is to help the
process of digestion in the stomachhowever, if there is a high number of acid, and is intense and
excessively concentrated, it can result in symptoms of heartburn and acid indigestion. Indigestion is
a feeling of pain and discomfort in the stomach in having difficulties in digesting food. Heartburn is
a form of indigestion felt as a burning sensation throughout the chest, caused by acid regurgitation
into the esophagus ( Indigestion par. 3).

Both bases appeared as a white thin powder once compressed. One gram of baking soda and Tums
were placed in separate test tube. Once both antacid is dissolved in five milliliters of water, a clear
solution formed in both the test tubes. Both clear liquids mixed with two drops of universal
indicator creating a green substances. Refer to Figure 1. Lab SetUp for further demonstration.
The universal indicator was used to help detect the neutralization and help tell apart a base or
acid. The indicator had baking soda form a dark green solution while the Tums created a light
green solution. Acids and bases react together to form a neutralization. In this case, hydrochloric
acid is added to both green substances to ensure both antacids are bases and to allow a
neutralization of a pH level of 7. Tums required approximately 10 drops of hydrochloric acid to
turn neutral (yellow colour) while baking soda required approximately 127 drops to become
neutral. See Table 2: The Quantitative Observation. Thus, baking soda contains more acidity than
Tums and in result, Tums are more of a preferable option in reducing acidity level in stomach
during heartburn and other acid indigestion. Tums are more efficient as it took a shorter amount of
time to become neutral compared to baking

The Purpose of the African Union Mission in Somalia...
The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) on the surface is an effective fighting force in
Somalia; however, the success of AMISOM is contingent upon Ugandan participation. The
existence of AMISOM is due to a long Somali history of political / economic instability and the
current struggle against the Somalia based terrorist organization, Al Shabaab. The overall objective
within Somalia is to eliminate or at a minimum contain the Al Shabaab threat. The creation of
AMISOM assists the Somalian Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and its allies to effectively
target Al Shabaab while using the United Nations(UN), European Union (EU), and African Union
(AU) backed AMISOM as an umbrella organization.
From the UN standpoint, Somalia has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, the EU, like the UN, is assisting with the famine issue plaguing Somalia, as well as paying
the total of AMISOM troop salaries. Currently, members of the EU are considering the amount to
which that financial backing can be increased, given that the Union is already financially burdened
with several projects in the region, and the funds initially reserved for AMISOM will not be enough
to cover the costs sustained by the increasing troop ceiling. The new EU Resolution 2036 (2012)
states, It is therefore vital, as stated in the resolution, that new contributors pledge to join the
European Union in providing financial support. The EU is active with the UN on international
initiatives set out by the UN Security Council Resolutions on eliminating piracy off the coast of
Somalia. Piracy acts have been occurring simultaneously with the instability in Somalia, further
strengthening the motives for a stable Somalia.
The AU operates AMISOM with the approval of the UN and is headquartered in Ethiopia. They
face many tasks which include health issues (AIDS/HIV epidemic), famine, intermediating in civil
wars; and improving the standard of living. According to their website, one of the objectives of the
AU is to promote peace, security, and stability on the continent. This objective directly aligns with
eliminating the threat posed by Al Shabaab.
Due to these instabilities within Somalia, it was essential for the UN, EU, and AU to combine their
efforts and form an

Essay On The Protest Movement
The groups who fought the early battle for recognition and treatment of AIDS formed a protest
movement similar to those involved in the fight for women s suffrage, and for civil rights. The
consensus of authors like Herbert Spires and Mirko Grmek is that a strong, organized civil
disobedience protest movement was necessary to combat the general apathy towards AIDSfrom
both the government and from the medical community. However, there was some disagreement
about this civil disobediencefrom people like John W Toomey. Additionally, the protest
movement
itself was divided into two factions, gay men on one side, and women and minorities on the other.
Each had disparate experiences with that AIDS community, and each disagreed on the focus of the
movement. In the end, both factions utilization of mainstream protest methods, along with civil
disobedience, had a major effect on AIDS research and lead to life saving changes in the treatment
of individuals living with AIDS.
In July of 1981, a rare form of cancer was killing gay men in New York and California. This new,
deadly homosexual disease would come to be known as AIDS, Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome. In the decade or so that followed, as it became clear that this was not merely gay
disease, but a disease that affected, women, hemophiliacs and children, the government reacted with
indifference. This led those affected to fight for recognition and for treatment options.
When the AIDS epidemic started in the early

Plastic Bags: Replace, Reuse or Recycle
Micheal Boor
Arizona State University, ENG 102
Plastic Bags: Replace, Reuse or Recycle
Plastic bags are an everyday part of our lives, we use them without thought and often discard
them in the trash once they are no longer needed. If you looked in your kitchen in the pantry or
under the kitchen sink; you would probably find a significant number of plastic bags stored
there. We rarely stop to think about what the proper way to dispose of a plastic bag would be or
if there is a proper way to achieve this. Just take a moment to reflect about how much plastic
based products are a vital part of our everyday lives. Then ask yourselves, what we as a
community, can do to explore methods for the disposal of plastics bags. One option that comes to
mind includes contacting your local county representatives to ask about increased recycling or
proper disposal opportunities for plastic bags. If recycling plastic bags in your local area is too
cost prohibitive, then perhaps there should be a discussion on alternative options the plastic bag.
Many people take for granted that plastic bags are recyclable when they are not a commonly
acceptable recyclable material. For instance, in Fairfax County, Virginia which is a part of the
Washington D.C. Metropolitan area and has a current population of over 1 million people, there are
currently no recycling facilities within the county that accept plastic bags for processing. Consider
for a moment how

Debt Driven Economy
Not only is humanity continuously following a natural cycle on a grand time scale, but also
smaller aspects of everyday lives follow a similar pattern. This poem relates the the cyclical nature
of single human life to the cyclical nature of the economy. This poem demonstrates how the
progression of life follows a pattern and how a smaller aspect, the economy, also follows a patterns
that can relate to each other.
Life A Debt Driven Economy
As you get older, you come to understand the economics of age.
You go through a cycle you see.
When you were new , you had energy,
You developed, a state of Growth.
You reached your prime,
Your life was booming, a state of Prosperity.
You were young
But eventually as time goes by,
Your hair begins... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This poem relates the cyclical nature of our economy to each individual life coming full circle.
Throughout history, the economy booms and times become prosperous, such as the Roaring 20
s. However, the economy can go bust and ruin lives, such as the Great Depression, just as
quickly. This illustrates how the loop of the economy and a human s life are related. This also
shows that the balance in this universe cannot be broken or changed. This poem describes being
young and having energy, which would be considered the upward swing of your life and the
times of a developing economy. Then there is a state of prosperity where one reaches their
prime, which would be being at the top of the circular swing and when the economy is booming.
And then begins the process of having less energy, not being as prosperous, start of aging; all of
which would be considered the downward swing and the economy going bust. And ultimately,
death is the lowest point of the swing. This whole cycle then begins all again, but with another
life this time. It is not surprising that if the timeline of humanity, then certain aspects such as the
economy also follow the circular pattern too. This theme is a double edged sword. While it is
comforting to know that rough times will not last forever and humanity will pull itself up, it is
also depressing to know nothing good in life will always stay the same, it will eventually all burn
down for it to be rebuilt

  • 2. Comparing Beowulf And Captain America What is a hero? As a society we have many ideals of them and with the recent events, whether they are real, War on Terror, The persecution of our emergency responders, the upcoming political races; or are simply all the new superhero movies coming out, the definition of a hero is somewhat vague. Looking at Beowulf, however and comparing him to Captain America, a revisit of an old comic book, we can see that though times have changed, our idea of the prefect hero, which these stories seem to describe to us remain largely unchanged. In the opening part of Beowulf, a fiend of hell, began to do evil. The grim demon (Lines 100 102). This monster is Grendel and he seeks the utter destruction of Heorot Hall and the warriors within. Captain America s greatest foe is the Red Skull, a man that seeks to take over the world during World War Two. The similarities are very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In such wise, manfully, the mighty prince, treasure warden of heroes, paid for shocks of battle with steeds and treasure (1047). As time goes on each hero fights more battles gaining more renown. In time Beowulf becomes a king, whereas Captain America stays as he is, a simple Captain in the U.S. military. Another large difference between these heroes is there last battles. Captain America has no plans of dying in his last battle, but when he sees that the only way to assure victory is to sacrifice himself he does so with no hesitation and no thought of himself. Beowulf goes into his last battle knowing very well that he will not survive as he is old now. Beowulf dies knowing that his life was full and good and is glad it ends with honor I have ruled the people fifty years; no folk king was there of them that dwelt about me durst touch me with his sword or cow me through terror (2734 2736). • 3. The Psychosexual Stages Of Development Psychosexual Stages of Development In the second essay of his Three Essays on Sexuality (1905), Freud theorized that every child is born with innate sexual impulses that develop as the child grows. He proposed stages of psychosexual development that each child goes through until he or she reaches puberty. This chapter investigates if these stages of development are in fact, universal and the nature of their presence in the cultural society of Hindu India. According to Freud (1905), the new born child s innate sexual impulses can only be observed in the child once he reaches the age of three. He stated that the development of this infantile sexuality took place in a periodic and oscillating manner after a brief period of development, it is suppressed in a state of latency till the sexual development takes over. Although he states that he does not know the reason for this pattern, he also adds that it is during this period of latency that the aesthetic and moral ideals develop which by feelings of disgust and shame restrict the flow of the sexual instinct. These ideals develop inherently, even without any help from external education. While the impulses are not ceased entirely during the period of latency, their energy is diverted to other ends by the process of sublimation and results in the development of the individual (ibid: 176). While the final outcome of the sexual development is the pursuit of pleasure from a single, primary erotogenic source directed towards a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Social Media Platform Twitter As such, for a game that may seek to reach an audience beyond the people that understand the meaning of the logo, it is important to design a logo that cuts across different languages. On the other hand, in South Africa, where this application was primarily created for, the logo would easily understood and convey the message of the game because it is in the local dialect. Also, since the game is originally a traditional Southern African board game that is played, the text used as the logo is easily understood in their environment. I would conclude that the application would have been more intuitive if it had an icon since its target was for different countries aside South Africa. Twitter is a native application that also runs on the android platform. Twitter is a social media networking application for friends, family and coworkers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages. The twitter application was designed with an icon. This design from my perspective has its pros and cons. I would say the first view made me think it was a game with birds. This is why I think an icon used in this perspective was not the right choice. On the other hand, using a text in the scenario which is likely to be a styled way of writing Twitter would not be the best design either. However, since the name Twitter is a bird that gives a call consisting of repeated light tremulous sounds, it is easier to understand why the logo is a bird. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Eunson 2012:256) People use visual, written, oral, sense and nonverbal means to communicate. Individuals have communicated with each other for centuries through the medium of letters, telephone, groups with public speaking and one to one conversations. With the introduction of mass media ideas could spread to larger audiences however the means of imparting information required high level skills and equipment not available to the individual. The effective tools of broadcast media have now become the tools for interpersonal communication.

With the population growing and our network expanding rapidly throughout the world, electronic communication has benefited people immensely. It gives them the privilege to share and connect globally with anyone, like distance family members, friends and work colleagues through various social networking websites such as Twitter, Flickr, Google+ and Facebook. An interpersonal communication technique such as visual communication is used regularly in these websites. Being able to see your social group s latest photos and video which are updated daily, lets you feel more connected to people you don t see in person often. • 11. Recycling Bins In Public Places Essay This image may seem familiar. Walking down the street and noticing endless rows of trash cans in which to throw away your garbage. But have you ever thought about why there aren t many recycling bins in public places. The reason for this is that the prices of recycling are booming. In turn, less and less people are wanting to pay these extreme prices. The lack of recyclingin public places leads to many problems like high costs of production, loss of resources, land overfill, and numerous more. Because there aren t many recycling bins in public places, people aren t as encouraged to recycle which is harmful for the environment. Some may argue that a greater amount of people recycle because the availability of recycling is increasing year by year. But still, ...according to Ipsos Public Affairs survey, only half of adults recycle daily (Schumaker 1). WIth so few people recycling, there are more ways that we are destroying our environment. Since these adults aren t recycling, our youth will continue to follow their ways and will expand the problem. Teaching children, who are our future, to recycle gives our country a better chance at improving our environment. The ratio from trash bins to recycling bins is yet to be remotely balanced. There are plenty more trash cans at public venues compared to recycling bins. If there were more recycling bins in public places, then it would motivate more people to recycle. Without passion for your subject and a desire for your students to learn and be the best in the world, then we have failed as a teacher and failure is not an option. John F. Podojil. In my opinion, this quotation is very true. If you do not have the passion to teach your students what is right in the world and what makes them be the best they can be, then you are not really teaching your students or you have failed and failure is not an option. My teaching style will be an eclectic blend of all the teaching philosophies, I think my main teaching philosophy will mostly be a mix of essentialism and existentialism. As a K 8 teacher I feel that you should teach the traditional subjects to students this helps to develop their character, which will affect them for the rest of their lives in society. I also believe that students should be able to express themselves in some way throughout the school year by the means of playing games to help them learn to do things and being able to have at least once during the school year a talent day in which the students show their many talents. I might also have the students keep a journal throughout the school year so that they can express their own personal thoughts and feelings for the day on paper. • 13. Why The Bathroom Is A Basic Necessity Going to the bathroom is a basic necessity that everyone does. With this necessity comes the need for bathrooms so the person can conduct their business in a safe and clean environment. However, this right is not available to everyone in some cultures. Women in India still lack a proper place to relieve themselves on a daily basis, which forces them to defecate in the open, causing rape, illness and health problems, improper feminine hygiene, shame and humility. Rape and vulnerability are some of the greatest concerns the women face. In May of 2014, in Katra village in Uttar Pradesh state, two sisters were found hanging in a mango tree after they were gang raped (Hjelmgaard). The two girls, aged 14 and 15, had gone into the fields near where they lived because there was no toilet in their home (Hjelmgaard). The girls deaths could have been easily prevented if they had a toilet in their home (McCarthy). These girls were not alone. Goldberg adds that, Every 30 minutes a woman in India is raped, and it s often the impoverished women who relieve themselves in the open who are targeted. To avoid being preyed upon, the women now go in pairs or groups to the fields to relieve themselves. As another precaution, they go before dawn and then hold it until dark (McCarthy). • 14. Impact Of A Baby On Teenage Mothers Becoming a mother changes a woman s life forever, as you now have a child who depends on you for love and for a stable environment. Being a teenage mother is even more hard work, as a lot of the time the young girls have not even grown up themselves. Today I will be exploring the impact bringing a baby into the world has on a teenager s life. As part of this research, a survey was conducted in order to find out first hand the impact becoming a motherhad on a group of teenage girls. FINANCIAL IMPACT Money is one of the biggest impacts on teenage pregnancy. The cost to prepare for a baby (cot, change table, pram, clothes, nappies etc.) and prenatal care as well as the other expenses involved in bringing up a child can pose vast financial hardships for teenage mothers. Often girls are forced to drop out of school in order to work so they can provide for their baby, but can find it difficult to find decent jobs since they did not complete their schooling. A high percentage of teen parents have to rely on welfare payments to support their families, but these payments are often barley enough to survive on (Home Remedies for you, 2017). Some teenage mothers even rely on their parents to help financially support them, which can make them feel guilty for having to rely on their parents. In worse case scenarios, some teenage mothers may find it difficult to even provide the proper nutrition and care for their babies (Kamalasanan, 2012). In the survey conducted, many girls ... At first glance, I thought that I had sleep insomnia and in the mornings, even if I got six to eight hours of sleep I would still wake up completely exhausted. It never mattered what I was doing, even if I would take a nap, the end results were the same: complete exhaustion upon waking up. After several months of this I began to complain to my parents and tell them that I felt that something was wrong with my sleeping. They never believed me at the beginning. After the summer, they still were unable to do much about my sleeping... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sleep apnea is characterized in a similar manner to hypopnea, a lack of airflow and oxygen levels at night whilst sleeping. However there are some key differences. Sleep hypopnea is a part of the obstructive sleep apnea family, and therefore has to deal with any obstructions that occur in the airways whilst sleeping (Phillips, 2015). Central sleep apnea, is another type of sleep apnea that can occur in people. This apnea is very different from obstructive sleep apnea. This apnea is caused because the brain temporarily fails to signal to the muscles that are in charge of controlled breathing. Obstructive sleep apnea is referred to as a mechanical problem, whereas central sleep apnea is referred to as a communication problem (Phillips, 2015). Central sleep apnea is much less common than obstructive sleep apnea and it can be caused by medical conditions that affect the brainstem. The symptoms of central sleep apnea are very similar to obstructive sleep apnea: stopping breathing or irregular breathing during sleep, shortness of breath leading to awakenings, chronic fatigue, excessive daytime drowsiness, morning headaches, poor/restless sleep, difficulty concentrating, mood changes, and snoring (Phillips, 2015). The treatment for central sleep apnea is by using a CPAP machine or a BPAP machine (which is very similar to a CPAP), certain medications have also been known to help stimulate proper breathing whilst sleeping (Phillips, 2015). Finally, the last kind of sleep apnea that can occur is complex sleep apnea. This type of sleep apnea is a mixture of obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea. Essentially, this type of apnea occurs because of slight obstruction and the brain failing to properly inform the muscles to breathe (Phillip, 2015). BPAP machines and Adaptive servo ventilators have shown successful use as the machines are capable of performing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Asian American Ethnic Studies Essay As the immigrant population currently projected to overtake latinxs and hispanics as largest group of residents in the United States of America, Asian Americans have shown their will to survive in a way that many groups have not, and that is by banding together in order to achieve the life they deserve. Taking the overgeneralization of pan ethnicity and using it as a device for increased numbers and support for the causes of a group of people who otherwise may not have much to do with each other, is a testament to how vulnerable they must have felt as well as how successful they have managed to be many aspects of progress. What I have gained from this course is the understanding that at the root of ethnic studies and the Asian Americancommunity is the for us, by us sentiment that contributed to the blurred lines between the different part of their communities as social, political and cultural, structures, collectives and groups which came out of an obligation and necessity to protect those immigrants and their future generations from a country which has always pushed European superiority in all aspects of society. • 27. Glucocorticoids Research Paper Glucocorticoids are well known for their analgesic, anti inflammatory, immune modulating, and antiemetic effects. A.Anti Inflammatory and Immunosuppressive Effects Glucocorticoids dramatically reduce the manifestations of inflammation. This is due to their profound effects on the concentration, distribution, and function of peripheral leukocytes and to their suppressive effects on the inflammatory cytokines and chemokines and on other mediators of inflammation. Inflammation, regardless of its cause, is characterized by the extravasation and infiltration of leukocytes into the affected tissue. These events are mediated by a complex series of interactions of white cell adhesion molecules with those on endothelial cells and are inhibited by glucocorticoids. After a single dose of a glucocorticoid, the concentration of neutrophils in the circulation increases while the lymphocytes (T and B cells), monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils decrease. The changes are maximal at 6 hours and are dissipated in 24 hours. The increase in neutrophils is due both to the increased influx into the blood from the bone marrow and to the decreased ... • 28. The Triton Fountain By Gian Lorenzo Bernini The Triton Fountain was specially made for Pope Urban VIII Barberini by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The fountain is placed at the center of the piazza; the fountain represents the God of Sea with anthropomorphic body and huge fish tail, kneeling on an open shell supported by the tails of four dolphins. The dolphins, leaning towards each of the four cardinal directions, open their mouths to swallow the water of the surrounding pool, telling us that they drink up all the waters of the world. The fins of the dolphins clutch the crown of Urban VIII, with papal tiara, keys of St. Peter, and Barberini bees. The Triton as the subject of this fountain is a very interesting choice. According to many historical sources, PopeUrban VIII was a very talented poet, and he was very well known for his pursuits in this field. Triton was someone who achieved a sacred unity with nature and literature. And as we can see from the monument, the Triton was an appropriate public monument to Pope Urban s distinguished literary accomplishments. On the other hand, this explanation of the connection between Triton and Pope Urban is not effective, and unquestionably does not give us full information. American art historian John Beldon Scott has established that Urban was suspicious of pagan imagery for fear it might lead the faithful astray. This suggests that the Triton Fountain may imply to something more significant than just the simple literary symbol. Also, it is important to mention that at least three ... • 29. The Political Frame Essay Buck Morss argues in The Political Frame that those societies claiming to be democratic often operate with power out of control of the masses. This wild zone is above the law, because it is a function of the state that makes the law. This relates to Buck Morss next point on the issue of sovereignty and legitimacy of a state. According to the nation state societies, the state monopoly on violence is legitimate because it is operated by legislation. The laws are written by those elected by the people, therefore popular sovereignty and popular will are the same. However, this fails to explain the violence and is an unsteady point. The state is both defender and creator of law, and therefore shifts that power towards itself. According to the class warfare model, the violence is explained by the revolution and the constant struggle between classes. This, however, does not explain its legitimacy. As rational individuals, we weigh the consequences of our actions versus the benefits of our actions. The more severe the punishment of the potential crime, the higher chance that individuals will be deterred. If a petty thief receives an 8 year minimum sentence along with a high fine, the severity of this punishment will deter others from committing the same crime. Also, the severity of the punishment of the first time offense must be severe enough to deter the same individual from committing another crime. The downside of the deterrence theory is that it assumes that everyone thinks before they act (Cole, Smith and DeJong 278). Individuals who are mentally unstable or have psychological problems aren t accounted for. Another major goal of punishment is incapacitation. Incapacitation deprives an offender from the ability to commit crimes by detaining them in prison. Both deterrence and incapacitation focuses on the potential of a crime occurring in the future. But with incapacitation, the offender is kept in prison and won t be given another chance in society until they have proven that they will no longer commit crimes (Cole, Smith and DeJong 278). Bioethics are not set in stone, although some scholars as well as Muslims do have strong opinions about certain bioethical subjects. In the twentieth century, there was a very limited amount of resources in the field of Islamic bioethics. The twenty first century has marked an influx in research on Islamic bioethics from both Muslim religious scholars as well as studies conducted by academic researchers (Ghaly 592). In the field of religious bioethics, there tends to be a significant amount of coverage on certain topics. In Islamin particular, scholars and the public alike readily discuss abortion and euthanasia (Brockopp 3). Although Islamic customs emphasize the importance of community, Islamic theology in general promotes the individual, not communal, salvation. This means that in many situations, there are guidelines for how one should act, but individual circumstances can differ therefore warranting a private and individual action. Westerners often overlook this aspect of Islam, as there are a lot of misconceptions revolving around Islam and the Muslim identity. Mayor Of Casterbridge Narcissistic Characteristics Renowned author and poet, Thomas Hardy, was born and raised in the English village of Dorset, a town that s known for it s ability to remained relatively unchanged in both quality of life and mentalities for hundreds of years. Hardy explores the characters in the town of Casterbridge in his novel, The Mayor of Casterbridge, which is based on his own hometown of Dorset. Within this town of Casterbridge, we follow, as Hardy puts it, A Story of a Man of Character. This supposed Man of Character is Michael Henchard, who challenges the reader s perception of what it means to have character. It also follows the characters of Elizabeth Jane, Henchard s daughter, and Donald Farfrae, his co worker and later rival. During the course of the book, it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows that Henchard felt a sense of entitlement to Elizabeth Jane, a clear quality of a narcissist. Just like a child who has had a toy taken away from him, he becomes upset that something he views as his, no longer belongs to him. This is revealed earlier on with his fixation of having her take his last name, thus marking her as his. Just like a true narcissist this brings out a narcissistic rage in Henchard. He quickly begins to criticize and rage at her for anything she does that reminds him of his former life. For example, her occasional pretty and picturesque use of dialect words , which reveal her poor upbringing, force Henchard to think of his own past when he too was poor (99). Though, quite hypocritically, though he is uncultivated himself he becomes the bitterest critic the fair girl could possibly have had of her own lapses (100). He is quick to rage and condemn Elizabeth Jane for her inability to completely erase the tongue of her past, though ironically he can t erase his past either. Just like how Elizabeth Jane s accent occasionally slips into her speech, similarly, Henchard s past throughout the novel continues to slip into his new life. • 38. Lucretius Influence On Religion The first author I chose that shows Roman influence on the modern world is Lucretius. What is strikingly modern about Lucretius analysis of death is that he incorporates science within religion. This conceptualization of religion within a scientific context is relative to modern thought. His works were read heavily within the 20th century which is the period where being non religious was becoming increasingly popular. His philosophy does not contain the same fundamental features the majority of contemporary religions have like an afterlife. Lucretius writes, That shows that we have nothing to fear from death; Nothing can happen to the man who is not there; It is just the same as if he had never been born . This idea of nothingness after death is popular with those who have faith in science. The belief in science can be argued as a religion itself as it has the same... The Dangers of Smokeless Tobacco Essay Through with Chew Using smokeless tobacco does not require inhaling smoke into the lungs, so therefore it is completely safer than smoking cigarette, right? Wrong. Unfortunately, smokeless and harmless are not interchangeable terms; as a matter of fact, there is absolutely no such thing as smokeless tobacco . Smokeless tobacco products come in many different shapes and forms, such as dip, chew, and snuff. These types of products allow users to get a kick of nicotine without having to inhale the smoke of cigarettes, so it is not surprising why they re so popular. Most users are unaware of it, but these products can be just as unsafe, if not even more dangerous, than cigarettes in an abundance of ways. This misunderstanding causes many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sugar is added to enhance the flavor of smokeless tobacco, increasing the risk for tooth decay ( It May Be Smokeless 2). The sugar found in smokeless tobacco chemically reacts with the bacteria naturally found on teeth, causing them to slowly decay. Other very common traits that smokeless tobacco users have are bad breath, tooth discoloration, and sensitive teeth; all of these effects are very common in abusive users and can be permanent if not cared for. Also, the main reason these smokeless tobacco products are so dangerous is because of the all the hazardous chemicals found inside them, such as nicotine. Nicotine is a chemical found in all tobacco products that has many health effects on the human body. The difference between cigarette users, who inhale nicotine containing smoke into the lungs, and smokeless users is that they absorb the chemicals through their oral cavities, getting nicotine to eventually travel into their bloodstreams. (Julie 1). As a matter of fact, users [of smokeless tobacco] generally absorb more nicotine from smokeless tobacco products than from cigarettes (Julie 2). Essay On Blowfly Temperature Investigating the Effects of Temperature on the Rate of Respiration of Blowfly Larvae This experiment was setup to investigate the effects of temperature on the rate of respiration of blowfly larvae. Background Knowledge The maggots involved in this investigation were blowflies at the larval stage of development, and they breathe through spiracles in the anterior and posterior segments. The respiratory tracts are not as developed at this stage, as the organism is not capable of flight, and so it respires less oxygen than an adult blowfly. They feed on dead organic matter. The respiration of an organism involves an intricate use of enzymes, and so some knowledge about them is necessary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, recent studies point towards the induced fit hypothesis, which means that the substrate and the enzyme are not identical, yet in the presence of the substrate the active site changes slightly, in order to make it a more snug fit. These theories pertain to a further point the fact that an enzyme is specific; the majority just have one possible type of substrate molecule. An increase in temperature affects the rate of an enzyme controlled reaction in two ways. First of all, the kinetic energy of all of the molecules is increased, thus increasing their speed. If they move faster, they have more chance of an enzyme colliding with a substrate molecule, and so reacting. This is known as collision theory. The increase of rate can be determined by the Q10 law. This states that for every 10 degrees in temperature in an enzyme controlled reaction, the rate of that reaction will double, until 40 degrees is reached. After this point, the enzyme may start to denature. This is when a certain factor affects the bonds holding the amino acids together, and they start to break, eventually resulting in the enzyme unravelling. Generally this occurs between 40 and 60 degrees. Equipment List * Respirometer (already assembled) * Blowfly larvae * Balance * Soda lime * cotton wool * 250ml

The arrival of immigrants in the United States in the 19th and early 20th century created many problems with how to deal with new cultures and naturalization of citizens of different races. These immigrants faced much adversity in the process of gaining citizenship due to racial qualifications for naturalization and fitting into separate racecategories. Thind was an Asian Indian, which was scientifically categorized by anthropologists as Caucasian instead of Mongolian. Although his petition was initially granted, other characteristics of Thind and his racial identity came into question. There was much debate over the unmistakable physical differences between Hindus and others who were categorized as white. The Supreme Court leaned towards the common knowledge aspect of evaluating racial differences instead of using science by using physical characteristics to differ between whites and aliens. For example, Justice Sutherland and the Court decided that the children born in this country of Hindu parents would retain indefinitely the clear evidence of their ancestry, which links physical attributes to the Court s social understanding of whiteness. The flexibility of processes involved in identifying race used in these two cases lead to many questions and concerns about what it means to truly be white, and how that is actually determined. Between these two cases, Justice Sutherland s legal definition of whiteness determined the eligibility of both Ozawa and Thind for citizenship. That was until Switzerland offered ten year bonds that lenders are paying to hold. While many countries like the United States Federal Reserve are preparing to increase interest rates, the European Central Bankis driving them down. The decreasing interest rates have forced countries like Switzerland to offer negative yields on their bonds in order to keep their currency from increasing too far about their Eurozone (European nation) neighbors. However, this notion challenges the very fundamentals of investing in the bondmarket. Numerous countries throughout the Eurozone and Europe are also seeing their yields turning negative. Whereas, various European countries rates have only slightly fallen below zero, others continue to fall deeper into negative territory. It appears that the time value of money (one of the fundamental cores of investing) seems to count for very little throughout the European bond market. Although Switzerland was the first to sell ten year bonds with negative interest rates several other European countries (both inside and outside the Eurozone) have sold government debt securities with negative yields. Up until now the highest government debt instrument were five year maturities. The universal indicator was used to help detect the neutralization and help tell apart a base or acid. The indicator had baking soda form a dark green solution while the Tums created a light green solution. Acids and bases react together to form a neutralization. In this case, hydrochloric acid is added to both green substances to ensure both antacids are bases and to allow a neutralization of a pH level of 7. Tums required approximately 10 drops of hydrochloric acid to turn neutral (yellow colour) while baking soda required approximately 127 drops to become neutral. See Table 2: The Quantitative Observation. Essay On The Protest Movement The groups who fought the early battle for recognition and treatment of AIDS formed a protest movement similar to those involved in the fight for women s suffrage, and for civil rights. The consensus of authors like Herbert Spires and Mirko Grmek is that a strong, organized civil disobedience protest movement was necessary to combat the general apathy towards AIDSfrom both the government and from the medical community. However, there was some disagreement about this civil disobediencefrom people like John W Toomey. Additionally, the protest movement itself was divided into two factions, gay men on one side, and women and minorities on the other. Each had disparate experiences with that AIDS community, and each disagreed on the focus of the movement. In the end, both factions utilization of mainstream protest methods, along with civil disobedience, had a major effect on AIDS research and lead to life saving changes in the treatment of individuals living with AIDS. In July of 1981, a rare form of cancer was killing gay men in New York and California. This new, deadly homosexual disease would come to be known as AIDS, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. In the decade or so that followed, as it became clear that this was not merely gay disease, but a disease that affected, women, hemophiliacs and children, the government reacted with indifference. This also shows that the balance in this universe cannot be broken or changed.
