Analysis Of To Build A Fire
To build a fire written by Jack London is more of a primitive survival story where the protagonist tries
not to freeze to death. It represents the battle of a man versus the nature. When I was reading the story
I could feel my body possessed by the cold temperature just because of the way the author described
it. The man was travelling with a dog, which was more conscious than him about the situation that
they were living and how arduous it was going to be travelling in such conditions. The animal was
depressed by the tremendous cold. It knew that it was no time for travelling. (London) Phrase that
suggests that animal was most self conscious than the man, even smarter.
This story shows how potent nature is, and that it does not matter

Compare And Contrast The 4 Colonies
The four colonies of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, and Pennsylvania all had different
religious and political developments, which led some to complete freedom and others to light
toleration. Massachusetts was founded by Puritans, who allowed believers and nonbelievers to live in
the colony. While this may seem like complete religious freedom, it is not; the non Puritans were
forced to pay taxes for the government supported church. In addition, the Puritans made strict rules to
enforce God s laws and forced all people to follow these religious restrictions, such as no public
displays of affection. In contrast to Massachusetts, Rhode Island offered complete religious freedom
to every colonist. The founder, Roger Williams, did not

children between the ages of four and six participated. The participants were randomly assigned to one
of three groups; thirty two (eighteen females and fourteen males) received visual art education, thirty
two (twenty females and twelve males) received music education, and thirty two were assigned to the
control group. Musical curriculum was defined as training in rhythm, pitch, melody, voice, and basic
musical concepts, while visual art curriculum was defined as development in visuospatial skills, such
as shape, line, color, and perspective. Participants were asked to complete several tasks related to
verbal intelligence and executive function, while listening to musical stimuli. The verbal intelligence
and executive function tasks were tested with musical stimuli, as well as without any musical stimuli
or other distractions or stimuli, which may have impeded one s performance (citation). After only
twenty days, the group of children given music curriculum showed vast improvement in both verbal
intelligence, as well as executive function; a striking 90% of participants showed an improvement in
both areas after just twenty days, compared to the control group. In addition, the music group
performed significantly better then the visual arts group in accuracy of the executive function tasks,
while there were no differences in response time. Participants in this study were required to take the
same test multiple times throughout the study, so practice effects could

Energy From Track s Vibrations For Safety And Monitoring...
1.2 Objectives and Aims
The main objective is to recover energy from track s Vibrations for Safety and Monitoring using
Aurdino controller which will Improve Rail Road Accidents. The proposed harvester is designed to
power major areas where there is no proper maintance of electricity. The different equipments usually
need a power supply of 10 100 Watts, for example generating warning signals, switches and health
monitoring systems.
1.3 Literature Review
The first step taken in this project was to do research on a variety of subjects to gather the information
required to be capable of designing the harvester. The main area of study was to gather information
about harvesters and further just in detail research on Energy ... Show more content on

As shown in figure, there are frictional losses due to the meshing of gears and misalignment of the
shaft when load is exerted on the track.
The proposed mechanical motion rectifier harvester system consists of two major parts. The first part
is input assembly, which acts to convert bi directional linear motion into single directional rotational
motion. The input assembly consists of two rack and pinions, and two roller clutches. The roller
clutches are fitted into the two pinions, either of them engage input shaft at a single direction.
The second part consists of the gearhead, power generator, and flywheel. These components are use to
convert the motion into useful energy. Figure 2.1: Flow Chart The harvester will be mounted to and
spans two rail ties. As it is shown in Figure, the harvester consists of : two rack and two pinion gear
which convert the linear motion to rotatry motion. Figure 2.2: Modified Prototype
A bearing clutch will be used to rectify the up and down motion of the rail track and a gearbox will be
used to amplify the rotatry motion and a permanent magnet DC generator will be used to convert that
rotation into usefull energy(electricity). When the train travels over the track, the rail tie system
displaces vertically. The rack gear is fixed in the subgrade, the harvester travels up and down relative
to the rack gear, and the pinion gear moves relative to the rack gear. Thus a small amount of linear
motion is converted to

The Impact Of Media Industry On The World Essay
Media industry companies throughout the world has changed significantly during the last decade. Just
as once film industry has been threatened by and had to adjust to the introduction of DVDs instead of
VHS tapes, nowadays, a similar pattern can be identified with introduction of digital platforms.
Various media companies, including film and music production, distribution, television, publishing,
etc. have to not only adapt their services to this emerging development, but also find new ways to
keep up with direct and indirect competitors. The former ones include large over the top services such
as Netflix and Spotify, which have been a sort of pioneers in the field of digital platform distribution
and which are acquiring more and more power by day; the latter ones are self production release
platforms, most evident with Youtube replacing television and blogs replacing printed magazines and
newspapers. Canadian based media companies today are struggling to keep up with the ongoing
movement. This can be clearly seen from current closures, merges that are the result of digital
predominance of big american companies. Throughout the course of the semester, both individually
and in groups, we looked over various distribution paths and explored the existing patterns both in
class and through our assignments. In this carry forward advice paper, I would like to look at some of
the most prominent and noticeable changes in the industry, especially in Canadian premises and draw

My Cultural Identity Examples
I have something; something that cannot be seen or held; something that cannot be heard or smelled.
Something that I can t quite explain; something impossible to exchange. It lies within only me, it must
be my cultural identity. Culture to me, is something that reflects not only me, but everyone around me.
Culture isn t where you came from, or where your family came from; it s you, and every aspect of
you. Culture is your likes, your dislikes, your values, your morals, your accomplishments, your
opinions, etc. You can t sum it up in just a sentence, or even a thousand. Culture is complex, it is

My Reflection Of Computers
I am currently enrolled in Calculus and I am feeling overwhelmed because just the year before I had
only taken Algebra II so a jump from Algebra to Calculus is pretty big because I skipped
Trigonometry and Precalculus. I felt overwhelmed so I saw this choice on the Application Activity 2 I
chose to go for tutoring. The tutor I chose is the Valedictorian and she could have chose to graduate as
early as last year. She is currently taking this last semester here and then graduating and going to New
Mexico Tech.
I had a C in calculus when I chose to get my tutor to help me with test corrections and a few
homework assignments that were worth a lot of points. Alyssa my tutor really helped me understand
what I did wrong on my test and with the corrections she had me do I was able to bring my grade from
a C to a B. The test had me deal with limits of functions and before I really didn t understand on the
first question I was very close to the correct answer but I factored incorrectly and on the second
question I remembered a vital rule in limits which is 1 divided by an X to a power is 0. The next
question had me deal with graphing functions within a function and that confused me quite a lot and
after getting tutored these functions make sense to me and I can graph them as easy as a normal
function, but we also had to evaluate if the limits exist and if they do exist where they are on the graph
and that was very confusing to me because I did not know which function I had to

Admiral Yi s Impact On East Asian History
Few people in history are as influential yet obscure as Admiral Yi Sun shin. Admiral Yi was born in
1545 and died in battle in 1598. His exemplary performance as an admiral and his loyalty to his
country were lauded by both Koreans and Japanese. Even westerners like Admiral George Alexander
Ballard have acknowledged the brilliance of admiral Yi. Admiral Yi Sun shin had a significant impact
on East Asian history through his defense of Korean independence, development of revolutionary
naval combat tactics, and his legacy sparking Korean nationalism. The first and most obvious impact
that Yi Sun shin had on history was his defence of Korea from Japan. If Japan had successfully

The Imjin Wars themselves drummed up nationalism in both Korea and Japan2. However for Korea in
particular Yi was a potent symbol (Yi Sun shin 1998). One reason for his importance is that during his
life he was not treated well by the Choson government. After fighting off the first Japanese invasion
Yi was arrested and demoted to the lowest level in the military. Even after his humiliation and
demotion at the hands of the government that he had saved he served devotedly in his station (Yi Sun
shin 1998). Perhaps this was due to his confucian ethic or maybe it was due to his personal
nationalism and loyalty to the Korean state Since that response was also redolent of Korean patriarchy
and a host of prevailing social values as well as martial spirit and actually succeeded in driving off the
invader, it was to earn him even greater accolades as a savior of his nation (Gilbert, 2017). Yi s status
has also caused an annual festival to be held at the headquarters of the Korean navy to commemorate
admiral Yi s accomplishments and to celebrate the blossoming of the cherry trees (Gilbert, 2017).
Admiral Yi also has a national shrine that is 342,112 square meters. There are also several statues of
Yi Sun shin in south Korea, the largest is in downtown Seoul (Gilbert, 2017). Based on his presence
today it is clear to see that Yi had a lasting impact on Korean nationalism.

useless. Tesla was offered a job working for Thomas Edison in New York, he had always dreamed of

different concepts of how to transmit energy. Edison used direct current, but Howard 2 it was inferior

efficiently. They soon were involved in what became known as The
War of the Currents . They fought to get funding for their inventions and for their energy source to be

Granovetter Weak Ties Analysis
Granovetter highlights weak ties by stating that weak ties are best when it comes to the collection of
information and resources that do not fit your normal or desired behaviors. For example, if you wish
to gain insight into new job opportunities you would go to your weak ties. This is because as your
weak ties, these people are not obligated to tell you things that will reaffirm or make you feel good
about your current standing in the world because they are not invested in to your personal feelings,
only the matter at hand. Meaning that they do not see any double meanings in your questions as a

social situations. This can often be observed in friend groups where one member of the group does not

Ausia Movie Analysis
UNITY is a 2015 documentary movie which explores how mankind can be transformed from the idea
of living by killing into living by loving. It is a unique movie about empathy for all, in other words, all
expressions of life , going beyond all the things that separates us based on country, race, culture,
believes, values, religion, and beyond what we perceive as opposite or different. It sheds light on the
fact that when we feed on our differences, it only leads to war. I chose to watch and write about this
film because of the cosmopolitan ideas it represents and its message of love, tragedy and hope. It
appeals to our greater human understanding and call on us to end violence and war. It uses visuals
from hundreds of short videos and pictures of original events in history from different sources and
generations. Globalization has created some of the biggest threats to global peace, and this film
captures it in a wonderful way to make a positive point. Kwame Anthony Appiah the author of
Cosmopolitanism, in his book also shares this believes as depicted in the movie when he reflected on
what he called the second strand of cosmopolitanism in his introduction; the recognition that human
beings are different and that we can learn from each other s differences . A concept the director of this
film UNITY envisaged for the world. Cosmopolitanism combines a sense of genuine responsibility for
other human beings as human beings with a deeper sense of commitment and accepting that we

Infant Observation Essay
Infants move through stages that allow them to make increasing varieties of sounds such as cooing,
babbling, laughing, and advanced babbling. Understanding infants sound production is very important
because use sounds to communicate. Language is taught as conversation. In order to be
developmentally appropriate for infants, the environment for infants, cognitive, language, and literacy
development the caregiver need to have specific ways to talk. The caregiver need to talk a lot to the
infants and use a wide vocabulary. When talking, give the infants choices and ask them about things.
Interaction with infants is the basis for cognitive development. Infants need to interact with objects
and people. Interacting with objects and people will help them explore and add on to their
understanding of the world. To encourage words in older infants give then experiences and objects to

classroom is important when nurturing cognitive development. In the first few months, infants need
materials for visual reaching. Their toys should be able to move, talk, make music, cuddle, and is

Going to school and getting an education and following through will lead to a life of success. Yes, it is
a proven fact that blacks who live out of the ghetto live a better life than those who live in it; all
children who grow up in poverty do not always end up poor. This is true because there are many men
and women who have survived poverty and achieved success, such as Ophra Winfrey. The Negro
Family: The Case for National Action report by Daniel Moynihan persuades readers to think that
blacks are living in poverty are all not able to achieve a good life. He says that if black men were to all
have jobs then black families would stay out of poverty. This is false because a family s income is not
determined by just the man. A black woman can have a higher paying job and support the family
financially. The report points that single parent women are not able to raise children in the ghetto
because of the environment and statistics of the past. Single, black mothers and fathers can raise their
child to be intelligent and successful without being in a high end part of town. These statistics are not
accurate for everyone in the black community. There is a saying in the African American culture that
we want more than a hand out, but a hand up! Fortunately many that have had a better life reach back
to those who have not. This hand up comes in the form of mentorship for young men and women

Death Is Not Bad For Anyone
Death is not Bad for Anyone
Epicurus writes, the argument that death is nothing to us, because when we exist, death is not yet
present, and when death comes, we no longer exist. There are three reasonable previews to support his
view, including: something is bad for someone as long as it must be bad for that person at specific
time; Death cannot be bad for someone when they are dead because the person does not exist at that
time; Death cannot be bad for someone before death actually come. Among these three reasonable
previews, Epicurus draw his conclusion that because there is no time at which death is bad for
someone, so death is not bad for anyone. I m agree with that Death is not bad for anyone , because
death can t affect us since we are died. Although the objection is reasonable, I still think the Epicurus s
response is stronger. The objection is that death can be bad because it is a deprivation of the good
things in life. Our life is full of good things. We have time that we stay with our parents or hang out
with our friends; we have time that we do our hobby and go traveling to see the world; we have time
that we go shopping and eat delicious foods; though there are still sometimes bad things happens, it
emphasis happiness in our life and make our life colorful. However, if we died, we no longer have
time to enjoy it. All the happy moments, money, gorgeous house, people we loves, things we have

Forshadowing In Jack London s To Build A Fire
Some stories can have an emotional impact on readers, but every so often a story will reach out and
help the reader escape into it. Jack London s To Build a Fire is a fascinating story with a remarkably
well described setting, and geographical descriptions of the surrounding Yukon areas. It portrays an
overconfident man, whom because of his lack of intuition and stubbornness, succumbs to natures
unforgiving climate.
Claim 1: In 1897 London and his brother in law, Captain James Shepard joined the Klondike Gold
Rush. He used this experience to describe the settings of some of his first successful writings. His time
spent in the Klondike was very harmful to his health. Like many other men working in the harsh
conditions, London was malnourished in the goldfields, and he developed scurvy. He lost four of his
front teeth and he was plagued by constant pain in his hips and legs. His face was scared by the rigid
work he endured, and these hard ships inspired London to write his short story, To Build a Fire .
London s exceptional use of foreshadowing in the title and within the first couple of lines of his story
tells the reader that the character of the story will come into hardship, his use of foreshadowing is
expressed within the first sentence of his story, There was no sun or promise of sun, although there
was not a cloud in the sky. It was a clear day. However, there seemed to be an indescribable darkness
over the face of things. (London) of not traveling alone.

How Is Harrison Bergeron Competitive
The story Harrison Bergeron is about a futuristic society where everyone is equal in every which way.
People in this society have handicaps to make sure they are as equal as everyone else. But a young
boy named Harrison Bergeron didn t seem to have an effect on his handicaps. He would always find a
way to overcome them and eventually he tries to take over the society and become emperor . This
action Harrison took may have been supported by motivation which could have been sparked by some
competition. The short story Harrison Bergeron, written by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., teaches its readers that
competition is the birthplace of motivation and or atrociousness.
Firstly, with everyone being equal, there would be no competition, so people wouldn t be motivated to

would people do their best, if they weren t gonna get the satisfaction of doing something better than

Compare And Contrast Vaca And Cardenas
Compare and Contrast Essay Death, starvation, illness, and hostile natives are some of the difficulties
explorers faced during the 15th century. Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca and Garcia Lopez de Cardenas
were two Europeans who traveled great distances in hopes of discovering something new. Throughout
their journeys, both men wrote down the problems and discoveries they made. With the passages from
their journal one can compare and contrast their expeditions. In the upcoming paragraphs one will

Cardenas were both Europeans who held positions of high status in the Spanish army. During their
expeditions, both men interacted with Native American groups that were able to assist them along
their travels. Even with the help of the Indians, their journeys were still difficult and long. The reason
for this is because of geographical and weather conditions. Furthermore, the scarcity of food and water
also affected the length of the journey and those who were traveling. Yet, with all these difficulties,

Rhetorical Devices In Ground Zero
In the essay Ground Zero by Suzanne Berne writes about her very personal experience visiting
Ground Zero the place where the twin towers stood prior to the tragedy of 9/11. She uses rhetorical
devices throughout her essay to make the piece feel incredibly intimate and emotional to the reader.
She specifically uses imagery, tone, simile, and metaphor to explain her experience to Ground Zero in
a deeper and meaningful way to her readers. Berne uses rhetorical devices in her essay Ground Zero to
let her readers feel the same emotions and imagine the same things she saw on her visit to make the
essay very intimate and realistic. In Ground Zero Berne uses many examples of imagery and
metaphors to paint a descriptive picture of her surroundings and what she saw to enhance her reader s
experience. She uses the imagery to make her readers feel as if they were there and make them feel the
same feelings of awareness, and sadness she did. Suzanne achieves this by recalling back to the horrid
memories of 9/ll when the skyscraper shrouded in black plastic, the boarded windows, the steel
skeleton of the shattered Winter Garden. (Berne 176), By using these extremely explicit and
descriptive details Suzanne allows her readers to experience the rude awakening she had when she
saw nothing in Ground Zero, but was able to recall the chaos that went on that day. Suzanne lets her
readers understand what was going on in her mind , and clearly experience what she was feeling that

The Nature Of Elizabethan Acting
ARTICLE 1
Elizabethan Acting Author(s): Alfred Harbage Source: PMLA, Vol. 54, No. 3 (Sep. 1939), pp. 685 708
The debate over the nature of acting during Shakespeare s time has been there for a long time. As
early as the 1950s there were speculations already of what took place on Elizabethan stages. What was
the nature of Elizabethan acting? There was the controversial discussion that divided people into two
schools of thought; the formalist and the naturalist. The naturalists argue that those early days were
characterized by acting that was natural. Formalist has contrasting views that Elizabethan acting was
formal. A compromise is that Elizabethan acting was a mixture of both formal and naturalism.
However, Alfred Harbage argues acting was either natural or formal. To determine which style to look
at, he defined and gave examples of the two different styles of acting. He argues that whether acting is
formal or natural, actors must create reality. Acting had to be perfected and their presentation never
changed even with time. Harbage argues that acting may be natural to one audience but the same
could be formal to another audience, that one was a logical alternative to the other. Alfred Harbage
wrote that there are no explicit differences in two styles of acting and the two could have been present
in the Elizabethan period.
He argues that Natural acting strives to create an illusion of reality by consistency on the part of the
actor who remains in character and tends

New Professional Opportunities a Business Degree Affords
A career in business is more varied than most people realize. Having a career in business you can
involve the obvious functions such as management and marketing. Again most people don t know that
you can be the backbone for economic, political and social systems at all levels.
Having a business degree can be applied to virtually any industry and can also help you start your own

These types of meeting people love to attend. The company even went out of their way for the
employees as well they gave out money and a plaque for the employee of the quarter at Christmas
time. I can go on and on about this company and the way they retained their employees.
So allow me to give you some more examples of the benefits to the company increasing their
retention. Some companies sponsors an all paid vacation to an exotic location, usually to mark the
employee s five year anniversary with the company. When companies do things like that you give
your employees a reason to want to stay with the company for those many years so that is one way to
retain your employees. Another way to retain employees is allowing sabbaticals for higher education
after certain tenure with the company. The employee s vacation benefits can take the form of annual
holiday to recharge the batteries of life, and company trips to increase teamwork and bonding
coworkers. I have learned that it is easier to retain employees by just being honest with them at all
times. An employee will be more likely to stay if they know they can depend on you to tell the truth
and have their back when needed. You will soon found out that if your treating the employees right
and like family that s the type of results you will receive and your business will be

The Pros And Cons Of Australian Political Donation
Political donations play an important role within the Australian Legal System. There are many cons
and pros about this particular issue and debate about how it affects the Australian democratic system
and if the law on it should be altered. A political donation is a donation of money to benefit
candidates, political parties, member of Parliament to help with the funding of elections, political and

Parliament of Australia (2012) has claimed that it s Establishing a funding scheme that ensures

It s an implied threat: if you don t treat us well we ll give you less and they ll be ahead. Having
donators like companies and individuals that donate a fair amount of money towards the party they

their voices to be heard. But some individuals like to keep their donations are secret from the public
and are able to donate a certain amount and split that up into smaller donations and give it to parties.
According to ABC News (2017), We don t know the source of 49 percent of the money received by
our major parties last financial year. That means in the year leading up to a federal election, politicians
and their parties derived $77 million from undisclosed sources. And it s entirely legal. This tells us
that almost half of the donations that have been donated by individuals or organisations does not have
a source from where the money came from and can potentially be Dark Money (funds donate to

Brief Story Of Timmy s Neighborhood
Timmy, has a great deal of money and lives in an extremely nice mansion. The private neighborhood
is guarded, so no one could come in unless they live there or have permission from a resident. His
neighborhood is gated and lined with large trees along a newly made road. Additionally, there is a pool
with a fitness center attached to the pool building. Cut into an enormous sandstone is the name of the
neighborhood, Sun Village. It was named after an old Indian group who once lived on the land, and
called themselves the Sun Tribe. One day, he was just sitting on his couch watching television when
an ice cream commercial began to play. So of course he had a craving for ice cream. He started
gathering his belongings to head out to the store, but couldn t find his credit card. I probably lost it in
my enormous mansion. Timmy snorted. Timmy doesn t usually carry cash around with him so he

He knew he wouldn t last long without his money, and he was still craving ice cream, so he decided to
track down the thief himself. He heads back to his house to brainstorm some ideas. Timmy knows he s
definitely the richest man in town, so if he could find someone spending excessive amounts of money,
it would more than likely be the thief. He also starts to assume that the thief must know him and that
he is rich. He grabs a ski mask to conceal his face and puts on old clothes, so it looks like he is not
wealthy but poor. He set out on his journey to find the thief. Occasionally, people would look at him
like he was getting ready to rob a bank, the ski mask was definitely not working in his favor. Alright,
he said, All I have to do is find someone who is buying so much stuff that only I can afford. He began
wandering around downtown where there were a lot of shops and looking for someone with a large
number of items. Is this the best method for finding the thief, he questioned. yes, he believed it would

Article by Bartley
In the article by Bartley, it looks at how the West should believe in itself a little bit more and they
should see how they are different. The article looks at communication and how it will insure that
democracy survives and it mediates our understanding of the world. The article also looks at the clash
of civilizations and how the conflicts will not be over resources but it will be over the fundamental
and often irreconcilable values. This will make the U.S. and the West on the defensive. The article also
talks about how there has been a lot of interest in cultural, ethnic and religious values in the Islamic
fundamentalism. The article looks at how people in the other countries are being educated in the U.S.
There is also a power of prosperity where Western values are becoming an artifact of an exogenous
civilization, but a lot of people believe that they are an artifact of economic development itself. At a
certain level of prosperity people want power and that the economic development leads to demands
for democracy and individual autonomy. The future is no sure thing and it is all about the people. In
the article by Wilson, it looks at the concept of American Exceptionalism. The article talks about how
we should embrace our values in the country and we should be proud of who we are in the world
system. The article looks at how we are truly different and distinct. There are a couple of problems in
our world which is the poor cannot get over certain things and

Student Achievement Essay
Each year, children are failing in school. As the years progress, the number of children failing keep
rising. In Closing the Achievement Gap , Kati Haycock, the Director of the Education Trust at the
American Association for Higher Education, states Between 1970 and 1988, the achievement gap
between African American and white students was cut in half, and the gap separating Latinos and
whites declined by one third. That progress came to a halt around 1988, however, and since that time,
the gaps have widened (6). As a result, people are doing studies and have come up with several
theories that exist on how to address the achievement gap. These ideas have been categorized below to

In Race and the Achievement Gap , he uses a study from the Roy Wilkins Center for Human Relations
to show that African Americans were 4.5 times less likely to be found in schools ranked low in math
and reading (Berlak 2). He claims due to those statistics that students of color are not opted to have the
gifted and talented school programs, which affects both the test score gap and the gap in academic
performance (Berlak 2). Amy L. Wax, Professor of Law for The University of Virginia School of Law,
on the other hand, shows a different cause in failure. She does not share the same views with Steele or
Berlak. In her article, The Threat in the Air , she states, We resist confronting the social and behavioral
causes of short falls in academic performance. Stark differences between groups in marriage rates,
family stability, paternal involvement, parenting practices and discipline, and other habits and values,
are associated with children s disparate academic success. (Wax 2). Wax also uses the idea that causes

Wax have touched on the causes, there are consequences that always follow. Consequences for

NER Case Study
As I mentioned earlier, mutations in your NER or more specifically your GG NER is responsible for
genetics diseases such as XP. This disease is mostly linked with the inability to repair cells that
contain photoproducts in your DNA that is initiated by UV light. These photoproducts include the (5
5) and (6 6) cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs) and the (6 4) pyrimidine pyrimidinone dimers
(PDs) that can involve T and C pyrimidines [7]. As these DNA are not repaired due to the lack of NER
proteins, a mutation will occur which will substitute a Cytosine base to a Thymine base, it is most
common when there are two Cytosine bases next to each other where it will go from CC to TT. This is
very commonly found in protein p53. Patients with XP C ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patients with XP V will have different, more mild symptoms compared to other XP patients, as they
can still remove the damaged DNA.
There are no chromosomal abnormalities present in XP unlike Down s syndrome. Chromosome
abnormalities is associated with defective DNA repair. Irradiation of normal and XP cells by UV light
induces chromatid and chromosome aberrations, and one study indicates that more chromatid
aberrations are found in XP cells than in normal cells 24 hr after irradiation [11, 12]. As Sasaki et al.
[12, 13] showed, XP lymphocytes were more prone to growth delay and chromosome aberration
production of 4 nitroquinoline 1 oxide (4NQO) but in XP cells, the 4NQO reparation is defective. As
XP is autosomal recessive, only carriers with both recessive allele will show symptoms of the disease.
Studies of DNA repair in XP heterozygotes have revealed that heterozygous cells show the same
levels of DNA repair as normal cells. There are currently no cures for XP, the only solution is
consistent UV radiation protection which can significantly decrease the amount of skin lesions or
cancer. Keratosis can be treated with cryotherapy or fluorouracil. It hasn t been attempted but
according to Halpern et al. [14], theoretically by inserting functional endonuclease genes into every
cell in the body using the gene editing tool CRISPR, it might be able to cure XP and allow NER to
function normally.
XP is a rare autosomal recessive disease that

Opposition of the Banning Of Medical Dispensaries The practice of medicinal cannabis dates all the

Unfortunately, many counties have begun closing down medical dispensaries in their cities for various
reasons. In Orange County, city officials and people from the community believe that dispensaries
have brought a rise in crime to their streets. In the last coming years Anaheim, Santa Ana, Costa Mesa

Herbert Hoover s Tragic Childhood
Herbert Hoover was orphaned at the tender age of nine after his father suffered a heart attack while
battling pneumonia shortly after his mother fell ill with a combination of pneumonia and typhoid fever
and passed away. The death of both parents left Herbert and his siblings to live the rest of their
childhoods with distant relatives. Hoover s tragic childhood did not in any shape or form foreshadow
his future. For the majority of Hoover s life, he was tossed around from relative to relative for a few
years until he landed in the care of his Uncle Dr. John Minthorn, who was a resident of Oregon.

Hoover ran the U.S. Food Administration at the request of President Woodrow Wilson. Hoover did
quite well as the head of the U.S. Food Administration in leading the effort to preserve food and
essential supplies that helped aid European allies. During the war, Hoover had become a household
name and the verb Hooverize was used, and that meant to ration household supplies. World War 1
officially ended in November of 1918 when the armistice treaty was signed. President Wilson then
appointed Hoover to lead European Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in which he supplied
over 30 million tons of American supplies to help aid the war torn European countries. Hoover s
service during World War 1 helped him gain the trust of President Wilson. With that confidence well
established between both men, President Wilson relied on Hoover s knowledge of world affairs during
the Versailles Peace Conference. The next year, Hoover founded a Library named after himself at
Stanford University that served as an archive for World War 1 documents and records. The private
organization became the Hoover Institution, which was devoted to the study of war and peace. In the
1920s Hoover was in the running to be elected president as a member of the Republican Party, and he
did not make it. Republican Warren Harding won the 1920s presidential election and then appointed
his fellow contender Hoover as his secretary

E Commerce And Its Impact On Waste Management
According to Pawar and Driva (2000), not every firm is ready to embrace e commerce as it could lead
to serious security, legal and financial problems. Back in early 2000s those hurdles of e commerce
limited the confidence of companies in terms of Internet based business integration (Prasad et al.,
2000). The research by Quayle (2002) revealed that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the UK
would generally focus on waste management rather than adopting e commerce. Moreover, some
critics even predicted an imminent collapse of e commerce (Wallace, 2000). Surprisingly for the
oppositionists, wide use of e business initiatives has proved its impact on waste management with the
adaption of electronic data interchange, electronic catalogue ordering, e mail, mobile telephone, direct
link ups with suppliers According to the research in the lean manufacturing conducted by Toyota
Production System, companies encounter 7 types of waste in their operations: overproduction, defects,
over processing, inventory, transportation, waiting, motion (El Namrouty et al., 2013). Different
business model of ecommerce companies as opposed to brick and motors` enables reduction or
elimination of some of those types of waste (reduced paper transactions, shorter order cycle time and
the subsequent inventory reduction). The changes result in speedy transmission of information,
enhanced supplier/buyer partnership through web communication networks (Gulledge et al., 1998)
and cost savings. Moreover, if

Then, we need to forecast the value of the offer.
Berkshire s offer consisted of two inseparable parts, an asset agreement and a credit agreement.
Total value of the offer is $142 million.
Solution Decision
Strategy 1: Accept the Berkshire s offer.
From the part 2 calculated, we can see that the value of company is about $130.01 million, and
Berkshire s offer is about $142 million higher than the value of company. The offer s Credit
Agreement can cover the current debts of company, and its Asset Purchase part also provide $142
million cash which can make the company has a better operation and reduce the managers pressure.
So the managers of Media General can accept this offer.

  • 2. Analysis Of To Build A Fire To build a fire written by Jack London is more of a primitive survival story where the protagonist tries not to freeze to death. It represents the battle of a man versus the nature. When I was reading the story I could feel my body possessed by the cold temperature just because of the way the author described it. The man was travelling with a dog, which was more conscious than him about the situation that they were living and how arduous it was going to be travelling in such conditions. The animal was depressed by the tremendous cold. It knew that it was no time for travelling. (London) Phrase that suggests that animal was most self conscious than the man, even smarter. This story shows how potent nature is, and that it does not matter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast The 4 Colonies The four colonies of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, and Pennsylvania all had different religious and political developments, which led some to complete freedom and others to light toleration. Massachusetts was founded by Puritans, who allowed believers and nonbelievers to live in the colony. While this may seem like complete religious freedom, it is not; the non Puritans were forced to pay taxes for the government supported church. In addition, the Puritans made strict rules to enforce God s laws and forced all people to follow these religious restrictions, such as no public displays of affection. In contrast to Massachusetts, Rhode Island offered complete religious freedom to every colonist. The founder, Roger Williams, did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The participants were randomly assigned to one of three groups; thirty two (eighteen females and fourteen males) received visual art education, thirty two (twenty females and twelve males) received music education, and thirty two were assigned to the control group. Musical curriculum was defined as training in rhythm, pitch, melody, voice, and basic musical concepts, while visual art curriculum was defined as development in visuospatial skills, such as shape, line, color, and perspective. Participants were asked to complete several tasks related to verbal intelligence and executive function, while listening to musical stimuli. The verbal intelligence and executive function tasks were tested with musical stimuli, as well as without any musical stimuli or other distractions or stimuli, which may have impeded one s performance (citation). After only twenty days, the group of children given music curriculum showed vast improvement in both verbal intelligence, as well as executive function; a striking 90% of participants showed an improvement in both areas after just twenty days, compared to the control group. In addition, the music group performed significantly better then the visual arts group in accuracy of the executive function tasks, while there were no differences in response time. As shown in figure, there are frictional losses due to the meshing of gears and misalignment of the shaft when load is exerted on the track. The proposed mechanical motion rectifier harvester system consists of two major parts. The first part is input assembly, which acts to convert bi directional linear motion into single directional rotational motion. The input assembly consists of two rack and pinions, and two roller clutches. The roller clutches are fitted into the two pinions, either of them engage input shaft at a single direction. The second part consists of the gearhead, power generator, and flywheel. These components are use to convert the motion into useful energy. Figure 2.1: Flow Chart The harvester will be mounted to and spans two rail ties. As it is shown in Figure, the harvester consists of : two rack and two pinion gear which convert the linear motion to rotatry motion. Figure 2.2: Modified Prototype A bearing clutch will be used to rectify the up and down motion of the rail track and a gearbox will be used to amplify the rotatry motion and a permanent magnet DC generator will be used to convert that rotation into usefull energy(electricity). When the train travels over the track, the rail tie system displaces vertically. The rack gear is fixed in the subgrade, the harvester travels up and down relative to the rack gear, and the pinion gear moves relative to the rack gear. • 6. The Impact Of Media Industry On The World Essay Media industry companies throughout the world has changed significantly during the last decade. Just as once film industry has been threatened by and had to adjust to the introduction of DVDs instead of VHS tapes, nowadays, a similar pattern can be identified with introduction of digital platforms. Various media companies, including film and music production, distribution, television, publishing, etc. have to not only adapt their services to this emerging development, but also find new ways to keep up with direct and indirect competitors. The former ones include large over the top services such as Netflix and Spotify, which have been a sort of pioneers in the field of digital platform distribution and which are acquiring more and more power by day; the latter ones are self production release platforms, most evident with Youtube replacing television and blogs replacing printed magazines and newspapers. Canadian based media companies today are struggling to keep up with the ongoing movement. This can be clearly seen from current closures, merges that are the result of digital predominance of big american companies. Throughout the course of the semester, both individually and in groups, we looked over various distribution paths and explored the existing patterns both in class and through our assignments. His exemplary performance as an admiral and his loyalty to his country were lauded by both Koreans and Japanese. Even westerners like Admiral George Alexander Ballard have acknowledged the brilliance of admiral Yi. Admiral Yi Sun shin had a significant impact on East Asian history through his defense of Korean independence, development of revolutionary naval combat tactics, and his legacy sparking Korean nationalism. The Imjin Wars themselves drummed up nationalism in both Korea and Japan2. However for Korea in particular Yi was a potent symbol (Yi Sun shin 1998). One reason for his importance is that during his life he was not treated well by the Choson government. After fighting off the first Japanese invasion Yi was arrested and demoted to the lowest level in the military. Even after his humiliation and demotion at the hands of the government that he had saved he served devotedly in his station (Yi Sun shin 1998). Perhaps this was due to his confucian ethic or maybe it was due to his personal nationalism and loyalty to the Korean state Since that response was also redolent of Korean patriarchy and a host of prevailing social values as well as martial spirit and actually succeeded in driving off the invader, it was to earn him even greater accolades as a savior of his nation (Gilbert, 2017). Yi s status has also caused an annual festival to be held at the headquarters of the Korean navy to commemorate admiral Yi s accomplishments and to celebrate the blossoming of the cherry trees (Gilbert, 2017). Admiral Yi also has a national shrine that is 342,112 square meters. There are also several statues of Yi Sun shin in south Korea, the largest is in downtown Seoul (Gilbert, 2017). • 13. Ausia Movie Analysis UNITY is a 2015 documentary movie which explores how mankind can be transformed from the idea of living by killing into living by loving. It is a unique movie about empathy for all, in other words, all expressions of life , going beyond all the things that separates us based on country, race, culture, believes, values, religion, and beyond what we perceive as opposite or different. It sheds light on the fact that when we feed on our differences, it only leads to war. I chose to watch and write about this film because of the cosmopolitan ideas it represents and its message of love, tragedy and hope. It appeals to our greater human understanding and call on us to end violence and war. It uses visuals from hundreds of short videos and pictures of original events in history from different sources and generations. Globalization has created some of the biggest threats to global peace, and this film captures it in a wonderful way to make a positive point. Kwame Anthony Appiah the author of Cosmopolitanism, in his book also shares this believes as depicted in the movie when he reflected on what he called the second strand of cosmopolitanism in his introduction; the recognition that human beings are different and that we can learn from each other s differences . Yes, it is a proven fact that blacks who live out of the ghetto live a better life than those who live in it; all children who grow up in poverty do not always end up poor. This is true because there are many men and women who have survived poverty and achieved success, such as Ophra Winfrey. The Negro Family: The Case for National Action report by Daniel Moynihan persuades readers to think that blacks are living in poverty are all not able to achieve a good life. He says that if black men were to all have jobs then black families would stay out of poverty. This is false because a family s income is not determined by just the man. A black woman can have a higher paying job and support the family financially. The report points that single parent women are not able to raise children in the ghetto because of the environment and statistics of the past. Single, black mothers and fathers can raise their child to be intelligent and successful without being in a high end part of town. These statistics are not accurate for everyone in the black community. There is a saying in the African American culture that we want more than a hand out, but a hand up! Death Is Not Bad For Anyone Death is not Bad for Anyone Epicurus writes, the argument that death is nothing to us, because when we exist, death is not yet present, and when death comes, we no longer exist. There are three reasonable previews to support his view, including: something is bad for someone as long as it must be bad for that person at specific time; Death cannot be bad for someone when they are dead because the person does not exist at that time; Death cannot be bad for someone before death actually come. Among these three reasonable previews, Epicurus draw his conclusion that because there is no time at which death is bad for someone, so death is not bad for anyone. I m agree with that Death is not bad for anyone , because death can t affect us since we are died. Although the objection is reasonable, I still think the Epicurus s response is stronger. The objection is that death can be bad because it is a deprivation of the good things in life. Our life is full of good things. We have time that we stay with our parents or hang out with our friends; we have time that we do our hobby and go traveling to see the world; we have time that we go shopping and eat delicious foods; though there are still sometimes bad things happens, it emphasis happiness in our life and make our life colorful. • 17. Forshadowing In Jack London s To Build A Fire Some stories can have an emotional impact on readers, but every so often a story will reach out and help the reader escape into it. Jack London s To Build a Fire is a fascinating story with a remarkably well described setting, and geographical descriptions of the surrounding Yukon areas. It portrays an overconfident man, whom because of his lack of intuition and stubbornness, succumbs to natures unforgiving climate. Claim 1: In 1897 London and his brother in law, Captain James Shepard joined the Klondike Gold Rush. He used this experience to describe the settings of some of his first successful writings. His time spent in the Klondike was very harmful to his health. Like many other men working in the harsh conditions, London was malnourished in the goldfields, and he developed scurvy. He lost four of his front teeth and he was plagued by constant pain in his hips and legs. His face was scared by the rigid work he endured, and these hard ships inspired London to write his short story, To Build a Fire . London s exceptional use of foreshadowing in the title and within the first couple of lines of his story tells the reader that the character of the story will come into hardship, his use of foreshadowing is expressed within the first sentence of his story, There was no sun or promise of sun, although there was not a cloud in the sky. As early as the 1950s there were speculations already of what took place on Elizabethan stages. What was the nature of Elizabethan acting? There was the controversial discussion that divided people into two schools of thought; the formalist and the naturalist. The naturalists argue that those early days were characterized by acting that was natural. Formalist has contrasting views that Elizabethan acting was formal. A compromise is that Elizabethan acting was a mixture of both formal and naturalism. However, Alfred Harbage argues acting was either natural or formal. To determine which style to look at, he defined and gave examples of the two different styles of acting. He argues that whether acting is formal or natural, actors must create reality. Acting had to be perfected and their presentation never changed even with time. Harbage argues that acting may be natural to one audience but the same could be formal to another audience, that one was a logical alternative to the other. Alfred Harbage wrote that there are no explicit differences in two styles of acting and the two could have been present in the Elizabethan period. He argues that Natural acting strives to create an illusion of reality by consistency on the part of the actor who remains in character and tends ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When companies do things like that you give your employees a reason to want to stay with the company for those many years so that is one way to retain your employees. Another way to retain employees is allowing sabbaticals for higher education after certain tenure with the company. The employee s vacation benefits can take the form of annual holiday to recharge the batteries of life, and company trips to increase teamwork and bonding coworkers. I have learned that it is easier to retain employees by just being honest with them at all times. An employee will be more likely to stay if they know they can depend on you to tell the truth and have their back when needed. • 27. Article by Bartley In the article by Bartley, it looks at how the West should believe in itself a little bit more and they should see how they are different. The article looks at communication and how it will insure that democracy survives and it mediates our understanding of the world. The article also looks at the clash of civilizations and how the conflicts will not be over resources but it will be over the fundamental and often irreconcilable values. This will make the U.S. and the West on the defensive. The article also talks about how there has been a lot of interest in cultural, ethnic and religious values in the Islamic fundamentalism. The article looks at how people in the other countries are being educated in the U.S. There is also a power of prosperity where Western values are becoming an artifact of an exogenous civilization, but a lot of people believe that they are an artifact of economic development itself. At a certain level of prosperity people want power and that the economic development leads to demands for democracy and individual autonomy. The future is no sure thing and it is all about the people. In the article by Wilson, it looks at the concept of American Exceptionalism. That progress came to a halt around 1988, however, and since that time, the gaps have widened (6). • 29. NER Case Study As I mentioned earlier, mutations in your NER or more specifically your GG NER is responsible for genetics diseases such as XP. This disease is mostly linked with the inability to repair cells that contain photoproducts in your DNA that is initiated by UV light. These photoproducts include the (5 5) and (6 6) cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs) and the (6 4) pyrimidine pyrimidinone dimers (PDs) that can involve T and C pyrimidines [7]. As these DNA are not repaired due to the lack of NER proteins, a mutation will occur which will substitute a Cytosine base to a Thymine base, it is most common when there are two Cytosine bases next to each other where it will go from CC to TT. This is very commonly found in protein p53. Patients with XP C ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patients with XP V will have different, more mild symptoms compared to other XP patients, as they can still remove the damaged DNA. There are no chromosomal abnormalities present in XP unlike Down s syndrome. Chromosome abnormalities is associated with defective DNA repair. Irradiation of normal and XP cells by UV light induces chromatid and chromosome aberrations, and one study indicates that more chromatid aberrations are found in XP cells than in normal cells 24 hr after irradiation [11, 12]. As Sasaki et al. [12, 13] showed, XP lymphocytes were more prone to growth delay and chromosome aberration production of 4 nitroquinoline 1 oxide (4NQO) but in XP cells, the 4NQO reparation is defective. As XP is autosomal recessive, only carriers with both recessive allele will show symptoms of the disease. Studies of DNA repair in XP heterozygotes have revealed that heterozygous cells show the same levels of DNA repair as normal cells. There are currently no cures for XP, the only solution is consistent UV radiation protection which can significantly decrease the amount of skin lesions or cancer. Keratosis can be treated with cryotherapy or fluorouracil. It hasn t been attempted but according to Halpern et al. [14], theoretically by inserting functional endonuclease genes into every cell in the body using the gene editing tool CRISPR, it might be able to cure XP and allow NER to function normally. World War 1 officially ended in November of 1918 when the armistice treaty was signed. • 32. E Commerce And Its Impact On Waste Management According to Pawar and Driva (2000), not every firm is ready to embrace e commerce as it could lead to serious security, legal and financial problems. Back in early 2000s those hurdles of e commerce limited the confidence of companies in terms of Internet based business integration (Prasad et al., 2000). The research by Quayle (2002) revealed that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the UK would generally focus on waste management rather than adopting e commerce. Moreover, some critics even predicted an imminent collapse of e commerce (Wallace, 2000). Surprisingly for the oppositionists, wide use of e business initiatives has proved its impact on waste management with the adaption of electronic data interchange, electronic catalogue ordering, e mail, mobile telephone, direct link ups with suppliers According to the research in the lean manufacturing conducted by Toyota Production System, companies encounter 7 types of waste in their operations: overproduction, defects, over processing, inventory, transportation, waiting, motion (El Namrouty et al., 2013). Different business model of ecommerce companies as opposed to brick and motors` enables reduction or elimination of some of those types of waste (reduced paper transactions, shorter order cycle time and the subsequent inventory reduction). The changes result in speedy transmission of information, enhanced supplier/buyer partnership through web communication networks (Gulledge et al., 1998) and cost savings. Moreover, if ...
