Tartuffe Essay
Tartuffe
In his most notorious play Tartuffe, Molière relates the story of an attempt, by a manipulative
hypocrite, to destroy the domestic happiness of a citizen who, charmed by his seeming piety, has taken
him into his home as a respectable guest. The play was disallowed after its first performance because
it was deemed anti religion. However this ruling was made unfairly since true religion is never
confounded with hypocrisy, but is upheld with warmth, which shows his characteristic hatred of
imposture in any shape.
Through out Tartuffe, Molière s play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The interests of God have pushed them to extremes.
These are my heroes. They re the men I think are great.
And they re the men whom I would want to imitate.
On first seeing Tartuffe performed in Versailles, the King immediately recognized and appreciated its
genius. He understood that it was strictly addressing hypocrisy, however concern about the play began
to grow as its performance moved to Paris. Molière s adversaries claimed that under the fake motive
of trying to expose hypocrisy, he actually sought to undermine the foundations of religion itself.
Pressure from the opposition, which included the Catholic Church, the archbishop of Paris, the Queen
Mother Anne of Austria, and the Company of the Holy Sacrament forced Louis XIV to ban the play in
Paris.
The argument could be made that The King s initial approval stemmed from the fact that Tartuffe
includes patronage in the form of not so subtle flattery and references to Louis XIV and his family and
associates, rather than the theme of hypocrisy versus sincerity. One instance of this being in the final
act where the King s authorities come to arrest Tartuffe for a history of swindling people out of their
fortune. The officer refers to his King as:
He sees things as they are; you ll find that wicked schemes

How Interests And Interactions Shape Science And Technology
HOW INTERESTS AND INTERACTIONS SHAPE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Ian Hacking
uses the example of dolomite in order to show that human interests do not play a role in science. His
belief is that there is nothing less socially constructed than a rock, but this statement does not
accurately portray the facts. Dolomite has a long history that involves a number of people and social
interests. Each person contributed to the discovery and identification of dolomite and social factors
were at play during the scientific process. Hackling starts with the history of dolomite. In 1791, a
French geologist, Deodat de Dolomieu, came across a type of limestone in the Tyrolean Alps. Then in
1792, Nicolas Theodor von Saussure named the region and the layer of sedimentary rock after
Dolomieu. Saussure then analyzed dolomite; he claimed that it was high in aluminum and held no
magnesium. However, this analysis was incorrect and it would take a decade to get the correct
analysis. Dolomite is an interesting example because it shows that scientific facts have a social factor
that is often ignored. Geologists stuck with Saussure s analysis even though twelve years earlier a
scientist by the name of Giovanni Arduino identified dolomite as magnesia limestone (Hacking, 187).
Arduino correctly identified dolomite s composition but very few people paid attention to his analysis.
Dolomite was named after Dolomieu because he had come across dolomite. The compound was not
named after Arduino nor was his

The Causes Of Student Stress In Education
It is often said that college students of the current generation exhibit some of the highest recorded
stress levels. There are many theories as to why these stress levels continue to rise. Perhaps the main
reason behind this rising stress is the fact that society is choosing to acknowledge its existence, thus
making the terminology more commonly known and revealing its detrimental effects the to the public.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze what has changed over the years in regards to education, what
seem to be common stressors among students, how these students learning mechanisms are affected,
and how America can work to prevent academic stress.
An important topic to investigate in regards to stress levels includes that of differences between
generations. More specifically, it is important to analyze what has changed over the years; in doing so,
new findings as to why student stress levels are rising may be discovered. One example of a change is
simply the number of students choosing to enroll in college. Almost every year, college admissions are
increasing, mainly because it is becoming universally accepted to go to college and attain a degree.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, Enrollment in degree granting institutions
increased by 11 percent from 1991 to 2001 and another 32 percent from 2001 to 2011 (Novotney,
2014). With more students enrolling in college, there will consequentially be more students reporting
feelings of stress and

Zar It For Fast Fashion
ZARA: IT for Fast Fashion
Current status of Zara IT Infrastructure and investments:
Zara has historically made minimal investment in IT. Its competitive advantage over other competitors
is not because of its IT infrastructure but because of its integrated supply chain and faster response to
the changing customer taste. Zara s approach to IT was consistent with its decentralized decision
making process. It has proved to be remarkably stable, effective and easy to roll out and maintained
over time. But in order to maintain business competitive advantage, a cost benefit analysis is must
before making any decision to invest in up gradation of IT.

Benefit: The current IT infrastructure has enabled Zara to report a net profit margin of 11.02% in 2002
and also has helped reducing the operating cost by efficient utilization of its supply chain. The up
gradation of current IT system will enable Zara further improve its efficiency thereby increasing its
revenue. It will enable improve its inventory management system because rapidly growing market
may make it difficult for the current old IT system to maintain the same level of efficiency.
Intangible analysis:
Cost: Zara s competitive advantage of efficient, fast and highly responsive supply chain may be at risk
due to fast changing complexity of market environment. Loss of information due to older system may
impact its revenue. Making phone calls to other store managers for checking inventories, is less
productive and time consuming. Small screen of the PDAs make it difficult for the employees in the
stores to use them for ordering purpose and are vulnerable to making errors. Up gradation of the
current system require training of the employees which may take several days or months. There should
be positive inertia among the employees to accept the up gradation of the current system. This much
required inertia is lacking currently which may a threat to the success of the change. The store
employees are comfortable with using the current system. The acceptance of the new system may take

Symbols In Romeo And Juliet
We all know the names Romeo and Juliet. A symbol of tragic lovers, but right now lets focus on the
character that is Romeo. In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses dramatic
irony, character foil, and monologue to define Romeo as a character. As I said before almsot everyone
knows Romeo loves Juliet, but in the beginning of the story he loved a girl named Rosaline. Romeo
was extremely depressed that she didn t love him back. We can see some of this behavior here, This
love that thou hast shown Doth add more greif to too much of mine own. (Page 18 lines 188 189) The
auidence already knows that Romeo will fall in love with Juliet, making this dramatic irony. We can
see that Romeo seems to be a bit dramatic, and falls in love fairly easily and quickly. Also we are
shown that he values his own wants because he is being a downer around his friends, and only talks
about Rosaline. This would be considered hedonism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can see his major differences between him and his friend Benvolio. Benvolio is a kind, honest, and
fun person. He s someone you d want to hang around with. While on the other hand, Romeo seems
impulsive and childish around him, as seen here Ben: At thy good heart s opression. Rom: Why, such
is love s transgression. (Page 18 Lines 184 185) With these two mixed we have a character foil.

The Road Not Taken Analysis
W.H. Auden s The Average and Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken both consider the choices that
determine the rest of one s life. Auden explores this concept through a young man s search for a better
future while Frost conversely shows it through a reflection on a past decision. The parents of Auden s
protagonist killed themselves with toil in order to grant him the opportunity to discover a profession
that encourages shallow breathing which puts immense pressure on the speaker to find a career that
guarantees their efforts were not futile as only a hero could deserve such love . In comparison, the
subject of Frost s poem made his choice long ago and contemplates his decision through a

his blood shot eyes he is without fear of physical danger and is instead focused entirely on the notion
of possible failure. Similarly, Frost s text carries this sense of fear, the fear of regret, while Frost s
protagonist does not explicitly wish to change his original path simply stating that [it] had made all the
difference in the past he planned to ke[ep] the first for another day which indicates that he did intend

The Human Reproduction Act, An Individual
Under s.60 of the Assisted Human Reproduction Act, an individual (a) is liable, on conviction on
indictment, to a fine not exceeding $500,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, or
to both; or (b) is liable, on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding $250,000 or to imprisonment
for a term not exceeding four years, or to both for not complying with the guidelines set out regarding
the duties of the reproduction of a child. A surrogate mother is defined as a woman who carries a fetus
conceived through an assisted reproduction procedure which is derived from the genes of a donor or
donors, and with the intent of surrendering such child at the time of birth (AHRA, 2004). However,
there is still ambiguity felt between surrogates and parents related to what the law sets out as their
legal duties in conceiving a child, and this is also pertinent in relation to the context of a working
contract. Having said that, this essay aims at addressing the unclarity, pointing to the main arguments
in favor of the Assisted Human Reproduction Act, and how the decision was aimed to safeguard the
rights of those involved; including the child, and to prevent culpability issues within the health sector
and many others linked to the overall process.
To understand why this is a highly controversial issue today, we must look at some of the main
objectives of why this law was enacted and the compromises made in order to achieve satisfaction of
all. First, what are the

Maggie A Girl Of The Street
Race and gender are topics that are examined not matter what the writing style. Naturalist and realist
writers work is no different in that aspect. However I feel that they way naturalist writers create and
write their female characters. I find that most of the female characters are treated as the weaker sex
within naturalist works. It also is clear that in naturalist works the gender roles are not strictly
enforced. If we take a look at The Yellow Wall Paper and Maggie a Girl of the Streets we can see
many examples of this.
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short story The Yellow Wallpaper, we as the reader is given an intimate

Later when our narrator finally takes control of her own thoughts we get the true picture of who her
husband is. We no longer see him in a protective, strong leader and husband. Instead we find the role
to be reversed, and we can even see him behaving much like a woman.
Within Maggie tale, which is very much a realist work, we can see the same treatment of women.
Specifically within Maggie s own life. Once her family has discovered that she has slept with Pete she
is shunned, and thrown away. Maggie while not oppressed by one specific person, or the social forces
that are out of her control oppress event like Gilman s narrator is still oppressed .
Both tales tell of a women who is unhappy, unable to escape, and deeply oppressed. I do not think that
women are treated or portrayed any different in either style of writing. Women in general during this
time period are consider to be weak, mild, and meek creatures. They are considered disposable and we
can see that in both of these women. They dream of better lives and want to escape, however they do
not have the means, or the power to do so. The only difference between the two is the Gilman s story,
which is a naturalist work, allows for more freedom with the gender roles and gender role reversal.
However over all realist or naturalist women are oppressed by men and their

The Rise Of Digital Banking
The Rise of Digital Banking
People s life style has changed drastically from 20 to 30 years ago where on the street corner you can
pick a fruit or some newspaper or magazine. The living pace is faster than ever and it is not stopping
every single day. Nowadays on the subway underground to air flight 10,000 feet above the ground,
pedestrians walking down the street to drives at red light stop, the small screen on that smart cellphone
has changed the way of living for everyone. Technology innovations may be a big part of it but also it
has given the wings for traditional service industry to keep up with modern lives needs. As the blood
of modern economic system, financial industry has also utilized the IT technology to help itself
running through each tubes of this system faster than ever. That is the rise of digital banking.
In the old days, people go to bank branches in order to either make a deposit or a withdrawn to their
accounts. From 14th century in Venice, Italy to 1970s in New York, United States, banking seems to
the same as it never changes. There is no other options if you don t want to have your own house full
of cash open for thieves and robbers. But with digital currency and online banking system, those days
have long gone for younger generations only with pictures shown on the history books. Starting from
1990s, growing with the boom of IT technology in Silicon Valley, digital banking has given itself a
key role of shaking up the entire banking industry as

Lady Macbeth Internal Conflict Essay
In literature, internal conflict can be described as the struggle between two conflicting forces inside a
character s mind, the effect of which contributes to the entire work as a whole. In the great Tragedy of
Macbeth written by William Shakespeare, Lady Macbeth is forced not only to confront her desire for
power, but also the line where she crosses the threshold of her own morality. Does Lady Macbeth give
in to her own deep seeded ambition, at the expense of her internal conscience and well being? The
answer is yes, and in the process of doing so, many lives are lost, including her own, and that of her
husband and sovereign king. Throughout Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, in a dire conflict with herself, must
choose between murder, lies, and deceit, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to emphasize this conflict and the contrast between Lady Macbeth and other characters,
Shakespeare presents the reader or audience with many other characters placed in similar
circumstances. These people facing the same internal struggle as Lady Macbeth can be considered
character foils, the most obvious of which is Macbeth. Lady Macbeth begins this play being portrayed
with an unrealistic drive for power while Macbeth is driven, but indecisive and unsure. However,
toward the middle of the play, as Lady Macbeth begins her spiral of guilt, becoming weaker and
weaker, the opposite occurs for Macbeth. As she slowly slips into her insanity, Macbeth becomes
bolder, acting as her perfect inverse. But, this isn t the only foil in the play. Shakespeare contrasts the
actions of Lady Macbeth to Banquo, Macduff, and Duncan, all men who were presented with huge
opportunities for power, but didn t let their greed override their sense of right and wrong. It is here
where conflict helps define one of the major themes of Macbeth; when ambition is unchecked by
moral restraints, it has the ability to destroy everything and anything in its

How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Essay
How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry
Seamus Heaney was born in the North of Ireland in 1939 on a farm with his mother and father and
nine other siblings. Generally Heaney s poems are influenced by animals through his childhood
experience, specifically within The Early Purges and An Advancement of
Learning . Heaney grew up near Belfast, during the time of The
Troubles , the Irish civil war. Although Heaney left at the height of the war, it is obvious his work
reflects his experiences of that time.
For an example The Early Purges illustrates this. Where they consider death unnatural . Growing into

Heaney uses words such as, purges , the water pumped in , scraggy wee shits , dunghill and dung to
suggest that the kittens seem like waste. The title reflects the idea of waste, as the word purges means
getting rid of undesirables. The water pumped in, indicates what happens when flushing a toilet,
therefore getting rid of waste.
Dan Taggart calls the kittens, scraggy wee shits which shows that he doesn t care about the killing of
the kittens and treats them as waste to be got rid of. He justifies his actions by suggesting the kittens
have no value. A dunghill can be used for getting rid of dung and the kittens are sluiced on the
dunghill. The word sluiced means
flushed indicating a toilet, so the kittens are therefore treated as waste. Throughout the poem we are
viewing the killing through Heaney s eyes and it is evident that he does not like the killing as he uses
words such as soft , tiny and frail to suggest the kittens are innocent and harmless. The words, For
days I sadly hung round the yard, watching the three sogged remains and the fear came back suggest
he was affected by the carnage and murder he witnessed. However, toward the end of the poem he is
forced to accept the killing and torture.
Heaney became numb, unfeeling and almost deadened. This is shown in the words, I just shrug,
Bloody pups . It makes sense . He is almost imitating Dan Taggart at this point to justify

Mass Incarceration And Drug Criminalization
In recent decades, low income Americans have been facing the consequences of living in a country
whose criminal justice system is greatly influenced by skewed prosecution dynamics, and whose
structural discrepancies continue to encourage the mass incarceration phenomenon that affects
millions of individuals today. At rates higher than Russia and China, the U.S is incarcerating an entire
portion of its population based on irrelevant criteria such as affluence and race. The harsh reality that
both, poverty stricken individuals and prison inmates face today, indicate a dire need for systematic
change, and should encourage citizens to become informed members of society. As citizens have come
together, and government officials become involved, many reforms have been introduced and passed
which are conducive to a more restorative approach to justice.
Addressing every existent disparity in the criminal justice system is an extensive pursuit that limits the
exploration of pioneering reforms via overload of information rather than focusing on the systemic
approach that corresponds to one or two issues. I have chosen to focus on two major disparities that
are profoundly correlated: mass incarceration and drug criminalization. By exploring the history
behind each of them, and by exposing the constructs that seem to have taken the term justice out of
our law enforcement practices and policies, I aim to build a platform that will lead to the exploration
of current initiatives and reforms

Rhetorical Analysis Of Remember The Titans Gettysburg Speech
Remember The Titans A speech from the movie Remember the Titans, (2000) brings out the
importance and reasoning for the movie to be made. The Gettysburg Speech, by Coach Herman Boone
is very strong and straight to the point of the movie. Coach Herman brings the movie to life with his
speech about playing the game on a battlefield. He talks about how the fight for lives were fought on
the same field as the football team were playing on to fight for their lives. This speech is meant for
any age group, although it is specifically addressed to ones who play football. Coach Herman Boone
uses the rhetorical appeals of logos, pathos, and ethos to inspire the football players to remove all their
hate to become an actual team. In the speech from The American Rhetoric, Coach Boone states to his
players, Fifty thousand men died right here on this field, fighting the same fight that we are still

Gettysburg fought during the Civil War. He uses this to show his point with the soldiers who suffered
to back him up. The Civil War was the worst war as far as danger, in the history of America. Coach
Boone uses the part of his quote, take a lesson from the dead, to show what a soldier might have said
during the fight. He compares the brothers of the Civil War to all the football players on the team. He
compares them to say that they are all brothers, and should be all fighting on the same side instead of

The Accomplishments of William Faulkner
William Faulkner is one of the best American authors of the early Twentieth Century. Born on
September 25, 1897, in New Albany, Mississippi, Faulkner enjoys his younger years painting, reading
and writing. Faulkner does not graduate from high school because school is not appealing to him.
Instead, Faulkner invests his time as a carpenter, soldier, farmer, politician, businessman, lawyer, and
an author. Out of his job accomplishments, Faulkner gravitates to writing. When Faulkner attended the
University of Mississippi, he wrote short poetry for the Times Picayune and The Double Dealer. It is
during this time that Faulkner enhances his writing ability. Once Faulkner began to write novels, it
became his passion. Faulkner publishes his first collection of poetry, The Marble Faun in 1924
(Faulkner). Faulkner s novels are challenging to read, but not exempt from ... Show more content on

Faulkner uses natural analogies to bring home his point of view. The novel deals with the evaluation
of modern capitalism. According to Sarah Churchwell, Faulkner uses a stream of consciousness
narration to suggest the way that Benjy s mind flows through time: memory, reality and emotion meet,
shift, and kaleidoscopically recombine . The novel is based on values from the South. It is a novel that
leads the reader down the same storyline multiple times through different characters. Because of this,
it requires the reader to pay chose attention. The novel causes the reader to figure out what is taking
place within the novel. The novel gives key points to help the reader piece together what the novel is
saying (Churchwell). Some readers think that reading The Sound and the Fury novel without having a
prior understanding is like riding in the fog without headlights. The novel can be challenging to read,
but is very rewarding to the reader who completes

Research Paper On Kitsune
Kitsune are from Japanese folklore and are Japanese foxes. A kitsune can have up to nine tails,
depending on its age, wisdom and power. The only way to kill a kitsune is to cut off all of its tails, as it
is said that one of the tails is its main tail and the source of all its power. Not knowing which tail is the
main one, one would have to cut off all its tails to kill it.One, five, seven, and nine tails are the most
common numbers in folk stories. When a kitsune gains its ninth tail, its fur becomes white or gold.
A kitsune is a shapeshifter, and usually when it reaches the age of 100 years, it learn the ability to take
on a human form. Thus, they have to be a fox for a hundred years before it can shapeshift from a fox
to a human and back ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The zenko (善狐, literally good foxes) are benevolent, celestial foxes associated with the god Inari;
they are sometimes simply called Inari foxes. On the other hand, the yako (野狐, literally field foxes,
also called nogitsune) tend to be mischievous or even malicious. Local traditions add further types.
For example, a ninko is an invisible fox spirit that human beings can only perceive when it posseses
them. Another tradition classifies kitsune into one of thirteen types defined by which supernatural
abilities the kitsune possesses.
Physically, kitsune are noted for having as many as nine tails. These kyūbi no kitsune (九尾の狐, nine
tailed foxes) gain the abilities to see and hear anything happening anywhere in the world. Other tales
attribute them infinite wisdom (Omniscence).
There are thirteen different kinds of Kitsune, each with a corresponding element, listed as follows:
Heaven (or Celestial or Prime), Void (or Dark), Wind, Spirit, Fire, Earth, River, Ocean, Mountain,
Forest, Thunder, Time and Sound. One of the most important things to a Kitsune is freedom. They do
not fare well to being locked away, and do not like to be forced to do something they don t want to.
Doing something like that would be likely to get you killed if they are freed. Kitsune love playing
tricks. They like to take things and hide them from people, or do just about anything else to piss

Darkness And Darkness In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
He Spelled Those Around Him Without Realizing That He Himself Had Been Spelled
Throughout Conrad s Heart of Darkness, he proves that all humans ultimately have some form of dark
within their soul. Even through the title one can see the irony between the heart, showing light and
humanity, and the darkness, displaying evil and immoral. The protagonist, Marlow, listens to other
members of the company illustrate Kurtz as both a universal genius (Conrad 33) and as a man with
enough power to frighten the manager (Conrad 37). Throughout the novel Kurtz symbolizes the key
theme of darkness and savagery, contributing to the overarching purpose of conveying Africa s true
environment and impact on humans.
For the majority of the novel, Marlow is yet to meet the mysterious Kurtz. The different, opposing
perspectives of Kurtz s persona cause Marlow to wonder uncontrollably and crave the presence of the
man himself. Marlow practically hears Kurtz even before meeting him: The man presented himself as
a voice... the gift of expression, the bewildering, the illuminating, the most exalted and the most
contemptible, the pulsating stream of light, or the deceitful flow from the heart of an impenetrable
darkness (Conrad 57). Kurtz displays positive qualities while also negative ones; he has the ability to
take control of Marlow s mind without even meeting the former. Marlow expresses Kurtz as having
many possible talents. He has the gift of bewildering, or scaring others into his

Defense Of Mastery
My theme for Defense of Mastery is Life during WWII . I have chosen to do this theme because it
incorporates all of my core classes. I was going to create 2 models of Hiroshima before and after the
bomb was dropped by the U.S. But instead I decided to create a small documentary about a woman
who lived during WWII and experienced similar treatment than that of a Jew while in Germany under
Nazi control. I will be interviewing her personally and asking her questions that relate to her life
during the war. If I have time I will still try to create the model. My theme connects easily to all my
core classes. For my history class it will connect with World War II, the effects of the war as well as
the technology and economic boom it brought to the U.S. For my math ... Show more content on

Father Jack Flaherty Analysis
A Saint in the Making: Father Jack Flaherty
Priests can help you navigate your way through life because God s voice shines through them. Father
Jack Flaherty is one of the most compassionate and driven priest I have ever met. He goes from parish
to parish spreading God s love to everyone in need and goes above and beyond in making sure that
everyone feels welcomed wherever they go. Due to his large time commitment, dedication to God and
his parishioners, and his exemplary exhibition of heroic qualities, Father Jack is a hero
One important aspect of Father Jack s life that makes him a hero is the large amount of time he
commits to being a priest. Father Jack knew his calling was the priesthood, but he had no idea how
much schooling went into it. According to Study.com, when becoming a priest men must go through
three specific steps. First, they must earn a bachelor s degree in the fields of either philosophy,
religious studies, or English ( Become a Catholic Priest: Step by Step Career Guide ). Then after
careful reflection on their vocation, they need to study at a seminary, classes that prepare them for the
priesthood by practicing preaching or studying church history by using their critical thinking skills (

future priest receives holy orders, a sacrament, from another priest, during a Mass or a celebration of

Muniba Mazari Speech Analysis
Muniba Mazari s speech is very emotionally powerful. It reminded me of a bumper sticker with the
quote well behaved women seldom make history that I saw a few days ago on a car. In both of these
cases, the concept of conforming to the traditional conventions of femininity is strongly discouraged.
Mazari, for instance, was astonishingly able to muster the strength to change from being a passive and
compliant female to the strong, independent woman she is today. As a result, despite having
experienced a horrendous car accident that completely altered her life, she overcame her new
disabilities and even bettered her life. Muniba Mazari would have continued to be stuck inside an
unhappy marriage, however, if she never decided to command greater

Different Sociological Explanations Of Suicide
Using material from Item A and elsewhere, assess different sociological explanations of suicide. (21
marks)
Suicide is the intentional taking of one s own life and sociologists over the years have tried to put
forward various explanations for why someone may do this. Within sociology there are many different
views on suicide on the causes and explanations for it, these come from two main methodologies
which are Positivists who believe that sociology is a science and they should aim to make causal laws
on suicide rates, compared to Interpretivists who believe that they should look for meaning behind
occurrences and certain individuals experiences before the suicide. Other perspectives also put in their
views on what they believe to explain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously this was highly criticised by Structural Functionalists such as Durkheim who believed that
Douglas work was too unscientific and that he incorrectly assumed that the nature of man is active
rather than passive.
Another sociologist who takes an Interpretivist methodology is Atkinson, believing that social
meaning and context is more important in finding root causes. However unlike Douglas, Atkinson is a
Ethnomethodologist which has a central belief of showing that each individual use their own members
methods to work out what they see. This is why Atkinson decided to study suicide, also to show how
official statistics are not enough. Atkinson focused on a Coroner s report and underwent participant
observation at an office to see what methods they used to decide whether a death was suicide or not.
Atkinson stated that they used common sense theories of suicide so if certain information were to fit
the theories it would be called a suicide. They would look at clues to help decided, Atkinson named a
few to which he believed was important within their decisions. Firstly was there a suicide note left,
this clearly is a big clue to whether or not the individual meant to kill themselves. Secondly how did
the individual die as certain ways such as hanging point towards suicide, also the location of the body,
usually if it is hidden away out of sight then the person is indicating that they did

Thomas Paine The Crisis Number 1 Summary
Thomas Paine in the essay, The Crisis, Number 1 asserts that the colonists need to keep fighting the
British. Pain supports his assertion by using duty/obligation, figurative language, and parallel
structure. The author s purpose is to persuade the colonists to not give up. The author writes in a
motivational tone for the colonists. In The Crisis Number 1 Paine uses duty/obligation to help his
assertion. He that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. (Paine 87.) Paine is
stating that any man who stands against the British deserves the admiration of all the colonists. I call
not upon a few, but upon all; not on this state or that state, but on every state; up and help us. (Paine
89.) Paine is asking everyone in every state and colony to help the fight against the British. The blood
of his children will curse his cowardice, who shrinks back at a time when a little might have saved the
whole. (Paine 90.) Paine is saying any who does not help when they could will be hated by their
children. Paines uses duty/obligation to force the colonists into feeling guilty if they do not help. ...

Juvenile Corrections Research Paper
Of course, we are all familiar with the overcrowding in our prisons, well within the last decade or so
we have seen an increase in how many juveniles are now being tried as an adult then ending up in our
adult prison system. Statistics show that instead of helping the youth of our nation, the justice system
has given up on them and parents are tired of their children sentenced to a life in prison.
What happened to the fundamentals of our correction system? Are we not supposed to try and reform
them while deterring them from future criminal behavior? If we could apply the practices
implemented towards helping youth offenders we could see a decrease in how many children we see
locked up with adults. There are programs that teach new cognitive skill methods that show alternative
outcomes geared specifically towards determent from poor decision making that has resulted in repeat
offenders.
Professionals within the criminal justice system can t even find middle ground, leaving them divided
against one another in deed as well as perspective. Making our system of criminal justice a name

How are we reforming them, making them better members of society? We aren t, in fact studies show
juveniles sentenced as adults show no signs of reformation or determent from future criminal
behavior, essentially making them another career criminal that we, the citizens, must pay for, not a
reformed offender. Per the U.S. Department of Justice there are much higher recidivism rates when

Henry D. Thoreau s views on nature, society, and man.
Thoreau Views on Nature, Society, and Man
Henry David Thoreau s life began on July 12, 1817 in Concord, Massachusetts. At a young age he
began to show an interest in writing. In 1833, at the age of sixteen, Thoreau was accepted to Harvard
University. Although his parents could not afford the cost of tuition, his family offered to help with the
funds, and in August he entered Harvard. In 1837 he graduated and applied for a teaching position at a
public school in Concord. However, he refused to flog children as punishment. He choose instead to
deliver moral lectures. The community looked down upon this, and a committee was asked to review
the situation. They decided that the lectures were not ample punishment, so they ordered Thoreau to ...

In Walden, he questions the lifestyles that people choose. He makes his readers wonder if they have
been chosen the kind of life that will really offer them happiness. Are they merely living a career or
some other narrowly routine or is a worthwhile life being lived. Thoreau wonders if the truly valuable
elements of life are being taken advantage of if a person is not living simply. If a person is so caught
up in working or never having enough in life, one wonders, and satisfaction are difficult to obtain. As
he states in the beginning Walden, most men, even in this comparatively free country, though mere
ignorance and mistake, are so occupied with the factitious cares and superfluously coarse labors of life
that is finer fruits cannot be plucked by them (Thoreau 6). This means that people care more about the
finer things in life and easier work instead of nature s gifts and hard work. Thoreau draws a parallel
between others preoccupation with money and his own enjoyment of non monetary wealth.
Thoreau discusses the issue of how we spend our time and energies. It is obvious that his townspeople
are not as economical as they spend many hours working very hard to accomplish very little, showing
a false sense of economy. Thoreau believed that all attempts to redeem mankind form its problems

  • 2. Tartuffe Essay Tartuffe In his most notorious play Tartuffe, Molière relates the story of an attempt, by a manipulative hypocrite, to destroy the domestic happiness of a citizen who, charmed by his seeming piety, has taken him into his home as a respectable guest. The play was disallowed after its first performance because it was deemed anti religion. However this ruling was made unfairly since true religion is never confounded with hypocrisy, but is upheld with warmth, which shows his characteristic hatred of imposture in any shape. Through out Tartuffe, Molière s play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They never will attack a sinner viciously— For it s the sin they criticize, exclusively. Their zeal isn t excessive, and it never seems The interests of God have pushed them to extremes. These are my heroes. They re the men I think are great. And they re the men whom I would want to imitate. On first seeing Tartuffe performed in Versailles, the King immediately recognized and appreciated its genius. He understood that it was strictly addressing hypocrisy, however concern about the play began to grow as its performance moved to Paris. Molière s adversaries claimed that under the fake motive of trying to expose hypocrisy, he actually sought to undermine the foundations of religion itself. Pressure from the opposition, which included the Catholic Church, the archbishop of Paris, the Queen Mother Anne of Austria, and the Company of the Holy Sacrament forced Louis XIV to ban the play in Paris. The argument could be made that The King s initial approval stemmed from the fact that Tartuffe includes patronage in the form of not so subtle flattery and references to Louis XIV and his family and associates, rather than the theme of hypocrisy versus sincerity. One instance of this being in the final act where the King s authorities come to arrest Tartuffe for a history of swindling people out of their fortune. • 3. How Interests And Interactions Shape Science And Technology HOW INTERESTS AND INTERACTIONS SHAPE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Ian Hacking uses the example of dolomite in order to show that human interests do not play a role in science. His belief is that there is nothing less socially constructed than a rock, but this statement does not accurately portray the facts. Dolomite has a long history that involves a number of people and social interests. Each person contributed to the discovery and identification of dolomite and social factors were at play during the scientific process. Hackling starts with the history of dolomite. In 1791, a French geologist, Deodat de Dolomieu, came across a type of limestone in the Tyrolean Alps. Then in 1792, Nicolas Theodor von Saussure named the region and the layer of sedimentary rock after Dolomieu. Saussure then analyzed dolomite; he claimed that it was high in aluminum and held no magnesium. However, this analysis was incorrect and it would take a decade to get the correct analysis. Dolomite is an interesting example because it shows that scientific facts have a social factor that is often ignored. Geologists stuck with Saussure s analysis even though twelve years earlier a scientist by the name of Giovanni Arduino identified dolomite as magnesia limestone (Hacking, 187). Arduino correctly identified dolomite s composition but very few people paid attention to his analysis. Dolomite was named after Dolomieu because he had come across dolomite. The compound was not named after Arduino nor was his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Causes Of Student Stress In Education It is often said that college students of the current generation exhibit some of the highest recorded stress levels. There are many theories as to why these stress levels continue to rise. Perhaps the main reason behind this rising stress is the fact that society is choosing to acknowledge its existence, thus making the terminology more commonly known and revealing its detrimental effects the to the public. The purpose of this paper is to analyze what has changed over the years in regards to education, what seem to be common stressors among students, how these students learning mechanisms are affected, and how America can work to prevent academic stress. An important topic to investigate in regards to stress levels includes that of differences between generations. More specifically, it is important to analyze what has changed over the years; in doing so, new findings as to why student stress levels are rising may be discovered. One example of a change is simply the number of students choosing to enroll in college. Almost every year, college admissions are increasing, mainly because it is becoming universally accepted to go to college and attain a degree. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, Enrollment in degree granting institutions increased by 11 percent from 1991 to 2001 and another 32 percent from 2001 to 2011 (Novotney, 2014). With more students enrolling in college, there will consequentially be more students reporting feelings of stress and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses dramatic irony, character foil, and monologue to define Romeo as a character. As I said before almsot everyone knows Romeo loves Juliet, but in the beginning of the story he loved a girl named Rosaline. Romeo was extremely depressed that she didn t love him back. We can see some of this behavior here, This love that thou hast shown Doth add more greif to too much of mine own. The parents of Auden s protagonist killed themselves with toil in order to grant him the opportunity to discover a profession that encourages shallow breathing which puts immense pressure on the speaker to find a career that guarantees their efforts were not futile as only a hero could deserve such love . A surrogate mother is defined as a woman who carries a fetus conceived through an assisted reproduction procedure which is derived from the genes of a donor or donors, and with the intent of surrendering such child at the time of birth (AHRA, 2004). However, there is still ambiguity felt between surrogates and parents related to what the law sets out as their legal duties in conceiving a child, and this is also pertinent in relation to the context of a working contract. Having said that, this essay aims at addressing the unclarity, pointing to the main arguments in favor of the Assisted Human Reproduction Act, and how the decision was aimed to safeguard the rights of those involved; including the child, and to prevent culpability issues within the health sector and many others linked to the overall process. These people facing the same internal struggle as Lady Macbeth can be considered character foils, the most obvious of which is Macbeth. Lady Macbeth begins this play being portrayed with an unrealistic drive for power while Macbeth is driven, but indecisive and unsure. However, toward the middle of the play, as Lady Macbeth begins her spiral of guilt, becoming weaker and weaker, the opposite occurs for Macbeth. As she slowly slips into her insanity, Macbeth becomes bolder, acting as her perfect inverse. But, this isn t the only foil in the play. Shakespeare contrasts the actions of Lady Macbeth to Banquo, Macduff, and Duncan, all men who were presented with huge opportunities for power, but didn t let their greed override their sense of right and wrong. It is here where conflict helps define one of the major themes of Macbeth; when ambition is unchecked by moral restraints, it has the ability to destroy everything and anything in its ... How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Essay How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Seamus Heaney was born in the North of Ireland in 1939 on a farm with his mother and father and nine other siblings. Generally Heaney s poems are influenced by animals through his childhood experience, specifically within The Early Purges and An Advancement of Learning . Heaney grew up near Belfast, during the time of The Troubles , the Irish civil war. Although Heaney left at the height of the war, it is obvious his work reflects his experiences of that time. Heaney uses words such as, purges , the water pumped in , scraggy wee shits , dunghill and dung to suggest that the kittens seem like waste. The title reflects the idea of waste, as the word purges means getting rid of undesirables. The water pumped in, indicates what happens when flushing a toilet, therefore getting rid of waste. Dan Taggart calls the kittens, scraggy wee shits which shows that he doesn t care about the killing of the kittens and treats them as waste to be got rid of. He justifies his actions by suggesting the kittens have no value. A dunghill can be used for getting rid of dung and the kittens are sluiced on the dunghill. The word sluiced means flushed indicating a toilet, so the kittens are therefore treated as waste. Throughout the poem we are viewing the killing through Heaney s eyes and it is evident that he does not like the killing as he uses words such as soft , tiny and frail to suggest the kittens are innocent and harmless. The words, For days I sadly hung round the yard, watching the three sogged remains and the fear came back suggest he was affected by the carnage and murder he witnessed. However, toward the end of the poem he is forced to accept the killing and torture. Heaney became numb, unfeeling and almost deadened. This is shown in the words, I just shrug, Bloody pups . It makes sense . He is almost imitating Dan Taggart at this point to justify ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Mass Incarceration And Drug Criminalization In recent decades, low income Americans have been facing the consequences of living in a country whose criminal justice system is greatly influenced by skewed prosecution dynamics, and whose structural discrepancies continue to encourage the mass incarceration phenomenon that affects millions of individuals today. At rates higher than Russia and China, the U.S is incarcerating an entire portion of its population based on irrelevant criteria such as affluence and race. The harsh reality that both, poverty stricken individuals and prison inmates face today, indicate a dire need for systematic change, and should encourage citizens to become informed members of society. As citizens have come together, and government officials become involved, many reforms have been introduced and passed which are conducive to a more restorative approach to justice. Addressing every existent disparity in the criminal justice system is an extensive pursuit that limits the exploration of pioneering reforms via overload of information rather than focusing on the systemic approach that corresponds to one or two issues. I have chosen to focus on two major disparities that are profoundly correlated: mass incarceration and drug criminalization. By exploring the history behind each of them, and by exposing the constructs that seem to have taken the term justice out of our law enforcement practices and policies, I aim to build a platform that will lead to the exploration of current initiatives and reforms ... However unlike Douglas, Atkinson is a Ethnomethodologist which has a central belief of showing that each individual use their own members methods to work out what they see. This is why Atkinson decided to study suicide, also to show how official statistics are not enough. Atkinson focused on a Coroner s report and underwent participant observation at an office to see what methods they used to decide whether a death was suicide or not.
