Theme Of Women In The House On Mango Street
For decades, the social stereotype of women hindering their rights to stay home and act as the
caretaker has been widely accepted in various cultures and civilizations. Today, many individuals fight
to renew women s rights and dissolve this stereotype, yet it is still prevalent amongst society. This
issue is so relevant that many literary works have incorporated the idea into their theme. Throughout
Sandra Cisneros novel The House on Mango Street, the idea of a woman by the window is repeatedly
mentioned and symbolizes the belief that women cannot reach their full potential and are left watching
life s possibilities pass them by. This image of a woman by a window is first introduced in the vignette
My Name, however Cisneros integrates this idea in the duration of the novel to the point where it s
embedded in the central theme. Esperanza describes her great grandmother whom she inherited her
name as a wild horse of a woman, (Cisneros 11). She goes on to share that her great grandmother
never forgave her great grandfather for stealing her away to marry. Esperanza explains, She [great
grandmother] looked out the window her whole life, the way so many women sit their sadness on an
elbow, and ponders if she was sorry because she couldn t be all the things she wanted to be, (Cisneros
11). The use of personification gives a feeling (sadness) the human like quality of sitting on an elbow,
almost like the sadness had become a whole new body part of her

A Survey of Arguments Concerning Mountain Top Removal Mining
A Survey of Arguments Concerning Mountain Top Removal Mining There is an ongoing battle over
the everlasting debate of mountain top removal mining. With every object at the center of a
controversy there are bound to be many arguments by all sides. Most arguments are biased and others
lack efficient sources or credibility to obtain a reasonable conclusion. This paper will dissect all angles
of the meaningful arguments and help develop a conclusion on the aspects of mountain top removal
mining and its effects to its surrounding environments. Who has measured the waters in the hollow of

Parks and recreation areas have been developed at many former sites where mountain top removal
mining had been in service. A little more than half of all former sites have been transformed to
recreation areas. And in most of those cases the mining companies that control the property pay for
those areas (Gardner). Not all of the areas have been transferred to recreational areas. Other areas have
been converted to land fills, industrial plants, and, roads and bridges. It is estimated that the mountain
top removal mining companies have contributed over 50 billion dollars developing these projects and
cleaning the sites since 1980. In September 2010, Gregory H. Boyce, President and C.E.O. Of
Peabody Energy, released a plan to eliminate energy poverty and inequality by unlocking the power of
coal to advance energy security, generate economic stimulus and create environmental solutions.
(Sutton) As long as mountain top removal mining continues, owners vow to take the proper steps to
clean up and redevelop these projects these former mountain top removal mining sites for the local
residents. Over time, due process should give more insight to the controversy. Even though both sides
present great arguments, time should be well managed to define what measures should be taken to
deal with all aspects of mountain top removal mining. Most of the debate seems like common sense
on both sides. The economic impact is huge for the

Comstock V United States Case Study
MARYVILLE, MO The case of Comstock v United States was argument today before the highest
court in the land. The case asks whether the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act passed by
Congress is within their enumerated powers outlined in the Constitution. Also, the court will
determine if the Walsh Act violated Graydon Earl Comstock s right to due process and protection
against double jeopardy when it was used to justify detaining him past the length of his prison
sentence. Attorneys from two separate law firms represented Comstock in the proceedings today. They
claimed the Walsh Act violated his Constitutional protections by detaining him longer than his full
prison sentence. Under this Act, offenders deemed to be sexually dangerous

Inter-Professional Health Care Professionals (HCP)
Professional programs educate students in their respective scopes of study so that they become experts
in a specific health area. This can lead to confined patient care due to lack of understanding
surrounding other health care professionals (HCP)1,2. The health care system is not
compartmentalized, as seen through the collaboration many HCP s engage in daily in their
practice2,3,4. This concept of teamwork is paramount in providing a more holistic, patient based
approach to high quality care1,2,3,4,5. One barrier to providing this level of care is the development
of skills, attitudes, and understanding that helps foster environments for team based care1. To target
this barrier, many educational institutions have developed inter professional ... Show more content on

Daniel Friesen stated that she was in a situation where her professional expertise was undermined
which negatively impacted patient care, a situation that could have been avoided with mutual and
professional respect between HCPs4. As well, in a recent study conducted by McMaster University,
students in medical school and the physiotherapy program were asked to engage in a 10 week study
with 3 hour sessions of academic IPE including presentations on scope, case studies, and dissections
with one another1. As a result, students had gained positive insight into the scopes of other disciplines
that helped them better understand and respect the HCP s role in patient care1. This study showed a
decrease in professional bias and increase in learning and interaction with other students1,2,3.
Academic IPE has shown to increase health care team performance because participants show greater
understanding of other professional scopes, strengths, and skills that results in an effective team2,3.
Therefore, academic IPE allows for open communication and interaction with students from varying
professional disciplines that increases respect for other HCPs that they will most likely encounter in

The Great Purge Of The Cold War
Joseph Stalin s determination greatly affected his leadership and led to the beginnings of the Cold War.
His determination allowed him to rise to power and destroy all opposition against his reign. The Great
Purge, one of the greatest terrors in history, was also done due to his determination to stay in power.
This same determination led to, as well as shaped, a large quantity of the events of World War 2. His
leadership was similar to the leadership of Adolf Hitler, yet because of his determination, was quite
different, and quite possibly more effective. In the end his determination for power led to the events of
the Cold War.
This determination greatly affected Stalin s rise to power, and allowed him to completely decimate all
opposition to his leadership. Originally, Stalin was a powerless citizen of the USSR, yet he managed
to quickly rise to the top of the political field. He began his role in politics by joining the Bolsheviks
in 1903. Due to his thirst for power he steadily rose through the ranks of the party and was soon the
General Secretary. The Bolshevik insurrection to Russian leadership was successful and placed Stalin
in a position of great power. He then used his power to isolate members of the party in an attempt to
take away their power and popularity. Determined to gain absolute dominance over the other
members, he caused the dismissal, and possibly the deaths, of several of his political opponents. This
left him in total rule over the Communist party,

The Program Being Implemented Is A Mentoring Program Based...
Class Project The program being implemented is a mentoring program based off of the successful
model of Big Brothers Big Sisters. Using this mentoring approach to rehabilitative ends, allows for the
successful integration of many different key factors that need to change in order for success.
Mentoring has proven to be effective in treating crime and delinquency in multiple crime/offense
types. Add to that as well the promising results in regard to drugs and substance abuse, educational
improvements, and mental health and behavioral health involved with psychological functioning. In
all, this gives credence to a program based on mentoring and using it to treat at risk youth between the
ages of 6 and 18. Setting up this program requires a community partner in order to implement the
program fully and effectively. It is for this reason I have partnered with the Police Athletic League. By
engaging juveniles in the community, at a vulnerable time in their life, and surrounded by many great
peers, creates the environment needed for this program to move forward. The Police Athletic League
(PAL) is one of the oldest youth programs in the nation, catering to a variety of different sports. PAL
builds relationships between law enforcement and youth within the community, and is based on the
belief, that if tackled early enough, these youth can be aided in building strong relationships, not only
with the community, but with the police serving in it as well. Studies have shown that if

Magical Realism In The Nose And The Saga Of A Fallen Hero
Magical realism is in both stories The Nose By Nikolai Gogol and Haunted, The Saga of a Fallen
Hero By Even bluestone. The magical realism is a big part of both of the stories. Magical realism is a
big part of both stories because it makes them interesting and mysterious. In the story the nose
magical realism is in every part of the story and it makes it more interesting than any of the others. It is
abnormal from other stroies in a way. Magical realism is one of the things that make both of these
stories different from allot of ether ones. First in the story The haunted by Even bluestone is very
creative in the way that the author introduced the magical realism. The story already starts out early
when it begins the narrator states Eric Randall wasn t himself. He was looking through his sister Lara

when you get to the middle of the story it pops. The narrator states Semi transparent faces of two
young boys floated outside his window, bobbing back and forth in the storm winds, trails of water
streaking their faces. This hits the reader quickly there was a normal see until all of the sudden there

he saw that it was his own nose!: In this part apparently a nose in a very real environmental rides in a

Public Sector Agencies are Best Equiped to Fight Social Injustice
With a new President, in came the rush of a new agenda. Gone were the days of the Clinton era, a time
of continued investment in big government programs and a commitment that the federal government
would assist in healing societal wounds. With President Bush in office, the social work community
knew it was in for big changes.
Armed with an agenda consistent with his conservative beliefs, President Bush came forth with
policies that attempted to downsize the federal role in social issues and social work, to return power to
the states in the form of block grants, and to increase reliance on the market as a solution to problems.
Like his father before him, Bush wanted a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After adopting the Elizabethan Poor Laws from England, the United States seemed to be on its way to
a private social welfare system. The Elizabethan Poor Laws created the distinction between worthy
and unworthy poor and sent those unworthy of help to privately owned and operated workhouses (or
poorhouses). The community and the family took primary responsibility for any needs a person might
have had. Throughout much of the 1700s and 1800s, the government did nothing to regulate or deliver
social services. A voluntary attitude toward societal problems soon developed (Zastrow, 1999).
The official development of the profession of social work is recognized by scholars to be connected to
the Charity Organization Society (COS) and the Settlement House Movements. Both started in the late
1800s. Jane Addams founded the first settlement house in 1889, and the Charity Organization Society
started in Britain in the 1850s. These two separate and different movements are credited with
developing the organization and delivery of social work (Karger Stoesz, 2001).
The Charity Organization Society, led in the United States by Mary Richmond, finds parallels in both
private sector social work and in the Conservative theory of today. The COS, for example, attributed
poverty to the moral failings of the poor, ignoring social and economic forces that shaped individual
behavior. Believers in private (voluntary)

Jack Beatty s Age Of Betrayal
In the book Age of Betrayal, Jack Beatty puts forth his argument that representative government gave
way to bought government, (Beatty 192). Do you agree with Beatty s assertion of representative
government? If yes, how would you compare the political climate of the time to the current political
climate?
I agree with Beatty s claim in regards to the United States. Often times, elected officials would
streamline legislation for the wealthy because they would receive gifts in return. This is most clearly
seen through the Homestead Act and the distribution of land grants. In the chapter Vote Yourself a
Farm, Beaty states that in return for a modest land grant, for example, a Kansas road, spread $295,000
worth of stock among Thaddeus Stevens, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Representative government does not pave the way for a bought government, rather, it opens the door
and increases the likelihood of corruption. There are many representative governments around the
world that do work and are not as susceptible to special interests as the United States. For instance,
Canada. Canada has a representative government, but they do not face the same issues of corruption as
the United States. This is due to their campaign finance laws and the role contributions serve during a
campaign. In Canada, an individual may only contribute a maximum of $1,500 to a political candidate
or party. This in turn leads to an average campaign budget of roughly $100,000 in total. Campaign
budgets in the United States dwarf those of their Northern neighbor. As stated earlier, this will
continue to be the case until campaign finance laws are put in

Demand Estimation Has Been At The Heart Of Many Studies
Literature Review Demand estimation has been at the heart of many studies that focus on questions
regarding market power, merger and acquisition, research and innovation and valuation of new brands
in differentiated products industries. Under the framework of demand estimation, Bresnahan (1987)
constructs equilibrium models of oligopoly under product differentiation and studies the competition
and collusion in the 1995 price war in the American automobile industry. Gasmi, Laffont and Vuong
(1992) study the collusive behavior on price and advertising in the U.S. soft drink market, which is
dominated by Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola, after obtaining a full information maximum likelihood

Firstly, there would be a large number of parameters to be estimated. For example, in a log log
demand system, where logarithms of quantities are linear functions of logarithms of all prices, without
additional restrictions, we would have 10,000 parameters if there were 100 differentiated products in
the market. The second concern introduced when doing demand estimation for differentiated product
is the heterogeneity in consumer tastes. Dixit and Stiglizt (1997) suggest a representative consumer
approach to deal with this. They assume that consumer preferences are of the right form so that an
average consumer exists; there exists a demand system that lends itself to the level of differentiation
observed in the marketplace. However, the required assumptions are strong and empirically false for
many applications (Nevo, 2000). The above two problems are addressed by logit demand model
(McFadden, 1973). The logit model solves dimensionality problem by projecting the products onto a
space of characteristics; in this way, the dimension of the attribute space instead of the square of the
number of products becomes the relevant size. However, due to the restrictive way of modeling
heterogeneity and the property of independence from irrelevant alternatives (IIA property) in the logit
model, substitution pattern between products is driven completely by

Successes And Failures Of American Policy Towards The GCC...

since 2008.
For the United States, the Gulf region remains one of the most geo strategically important locations in
the world for diplomatic, intelligence cooperation, and business opportunities such as hydrocarbons
and arms. This strategic cooperation has provided the region some stability, particularly with the rise
of Iran and the Shi a crescent and the chaotic outcome of the war in Iraq. The council members have
also relied on the United State to fend off some of the domestic challenges to the existing regimes that
are both internally and regionally rooted.
The Gulf houses half of the world s oil reserves and a third of the natural gas. The Gulf States still
continue to supply the international markets with a significant amount of the hydrocarbons. The
stability of the region is crucial for the stability in the global oil markets. The Gulf also hosts one of
the most strategically and important choke points in global trade, The Straits of Hormuz, which moves
about 35% of the global seaborne oil, natural gas and other trade goods.
According to Taimur Khan from the National World who wrote about a report that was published by

international counterterrorism cooperation. The findings were that the UAE had the greatest progress

Cricket DBQ
The introduction of the sport Cricket was much more complex than simply just a new game for people
to play. Cricket played a profound role in political relationships in South Asia between 1880 to 2005
by easing tensions and restrictions of caste members, athough sometimes intensifying British Indian
rivalry, as well as increasing religious tensions between Hindus and Muslims. Cricket played a huge
part in lessening social divisions, a constant problem in almost all of civilization s history. Prince
Ranjitsinhji, photographed in London s paper, planned to visit England and join the Sussex team, who
are glad to have him (Doc. 2). This is evidence that despite English likely believing they are superior
to Indians, because of the game of cricket, they are glad to incorporate a talented player even if he is
Indian. This theme is recurring, English Cricketer and historian Cecil Headlam agreed with this
sentiment, writing, Cricket unites the rulers and the ruled (Doc. 3). The document, written by a white,

Essay on Censorship in Television and Radio

looking at television, and for radio, focused on the FCC and disc jockeys like Howard Stern. Here are
the television articles as done by three of our group members.
If there is a single most important event that happened in television that caused major ramifications, it

The white house supports these ideas saying This legislation will make broadcast television and radio

The television has responded to the scrutiny that they have been put under, not by rebelling, but
complying with these new rules and censoring themselves. For starters Victoria s Secret cancelled its
annual fashion show, on television, this year. Fox is trying to clean up its act by employing people to
monitor its star reality show, American Idol , as well as other reality shows. Comcast Corporation told
Congress that it will increase its efforts to assist parents in choosing the right programming for their
children. In an interview with Survivor host Jeff Probst said that the producers were told to enlarge the
digital blur over Richard Hatch, who spent part of his time on the show naked. NBC planned to show
a woman s exposed breasts on ER, but from pressure from their affiliates the scene was edited. ABC
also planed on showing a racy sex scene on their show NYPD Blue, but because the show was played
before 10:00 in Central and Mountain Time the scene was darkened to show less. Stemming from the
Janet Jackson incident many live shows were put on a delay. MTV will used a delay

Introduction
The Falklands War, or La Guerra de Las Malvinas in Spanish, also referred to as The South Atlantic
War. It was a small, but furiously loud conflict between two countries across different ends of the
globe, both fighting for a few small islands in which most of the population farm sheep for a living.
Before going any deeper into the essay, the selected topic is personally a very difficult area to delve
into, as my Argentine background has always made me see this conflict differently. This is from the
prolonged exposure to Argentine culture, which the Falkland War greatly affected, including my
family and friend s history to the war, and events around it, which is also why I chose it.
The history of the Islands has already had a long history before the war, in 1690 a British sailor John
Strong discovers the islands, half a decade later, and they claim the Islands as a British Colony. During
Britain s, delayed claim, Spain joins into the dividing of the islands, later France also intervenes with
the colony, managing to get a slice too. Between 1764 and 1767, initiated by the French after the 7 ...

Frank Sinatra Through The Lens Of The Observational...
Observational Learning Theory In studying Frank Sinatra through the lenses of the Observational
Learning Theory much can be understood. Albert Bandura s Theory states that individuals learn by
observing. His experiment included a Bobo doll an adult actor and a child observer. Bandura picked
an object, a bobo doll, that the children had never been exposed to and their fore did not know how to
react to it. He then had the children observe the adults hitting and kicking the doll. Then when the
children were placed alone in a room with the doll they began to emulate what they watched the adults
do. Therefore, showing that the children learned how to interact solely by observing others
interactions. This theory explains numerus behaviors and encounters that Frank Sinatra had. He often
resembled the actions of his mother and father. Frank s Mother Natalia or Dolly was resourceful she
utilized her understanding of English and Italian language to make herself an invaluable translator for
immigrants during court proceedings (Kaplan, 2016, Sachs, 1995, Sinatra, 1985). This involvement
with the courts allowed her to gain the respect of many local politicians and eventually lead to her
becoming a Democratic leader in her community. Dolly was also entrepreneurial, she was the first
immigrant woman to hold any position in her local democratic office. Clearly this took immense
determination that she demonstrated multiple times during the Woman s suffrage movement were she

Ethical And Legal Case Study
Ethical Legal Issues in Woodlock v. Orange Ulster B.O.C.E.S. (2006/2008)
School counselors are responsible for abiding by the ethical standards. The ethical standards should be
known by school counselor educators as well as taught to students (ASCA, 2010). According to the
American School Counseling Association (ASCA; 2010), professional school counselors are
advocates, leaders, collaborators and consultants who create opportunities for equity in access and
success in educational opportunities by connecting their programs to the mission of schools and
subscribing to professional responsibility (p. 1). Ethical standards and laws are both based on
generally accepted norms, beliefs, customs, and values (Linde, 2015, pp. 147 148). While school
counselors are to respect the personal beliefs of their clients under the ethical standards (Linde, 2015),
they also need to abide by the law due to the law carrying greater sanctions or penalties for failure to
comply (Linde, 2015, p. 148). The ethical standards and laws are to ensure the best interest of the
client (Linder, 2015, p. 148).

donor organ. In 2011, nearly 80% of 4500 Canadians needing an organ transplant are waiting for a
donor. Of which, 35% died while waiting for an organ. In 2014, 2356 organs were transplanted and
over 4500 patients were still waiting for the donor. The statistics prove that organ transplantation is
critical and the transplanted organ must stay healthy for the rest of the recipient s life. The immune
system of the transplant patient can recognize the antigens on the transplant organ as foreign bodies
and attacks. To prevent this reaction, transplant patients are prescribed immunosuppressive drugs.

The size of the NPs prepared was in between 100 150nm. The NPs prepared were found to have
sustained drug release properties (Mittal et al. 2007).
Example 2: Nelfinavir PLGA NPs were prepared by nanoprecipitation method. Drug:polymer weight
ratio was varied from 1:1 to 1:5 and particle size, encapsulation efficiency and drug loading were
measured. Among the drug:polymer weight ratios prepared, 1:4 ratio was chosen as optimal. NPs
found to exhibit sustained drug release up to 24 h and there was a 4.94 fold increase in relative
bioavailability compared to pure drug (Venkatesh et al. 2015). Some of the key characteristics of
PLGA loaded NPs are as follows. NPs prepared with PLGA are known for high encapsulation
efficiency but drug loading is comparatively low which might be a problem with certain drugs
(Mirakabad et al. 2014). Delivery of a pH sensitive drug might not be feasible as degradation of PLGA
forms acids. In the case of oral PLGA NPs drug absorption takes place via M cells present on the
Peyer s patches and isolated follicles of GALT there by avoiding first pass metabolism (Jain et al.
2011). The surface charge of PLGA NPs is negative which may reduce the bioavailability as they repel

Does a Higher Accredited Investor Threshold Clip Angels Wings?
Does raising the financial requirements to be an accredited investor reduce start up financing? The
Angel Capital Association (ACA), a trade association of angel groups, claims that it does. But data on
the angel capital market suggests otherwise.
Who s right on this issue matters. Later this year, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will
decide whether to raise the income and net worth requirements to be an accredited investor, following
the requirement in the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 to
periodically reevaluate the current standard.
The ACA argues that raising the threshold would cause grave disruption to the startup ... Show more

To figure that out, I looked at data produced by the Center for Venture Research at the University of
New Hampshire, which provides annual estimates of the number of angel investors, the amount of
money invested by angels, and the number of companies receiving angel financing.
The 2010 increase in the accredited investor threshold did not adversely affect the angel capital
market. Between 2009 (the last year before the new financial threshold) and 2013, the number of
angel investors increased by 15.7 percent and the number of angel backed companies rose by 23.7
percent.
Because it s not clear exactly when the new net worth standard would have impacted the angel market
The SEC says the change was effective upon enactment of the Dodd Frank law in 2010, but the
agency adopted amendments to the accredited investor standards in its rules in 2011, and set 2012 as
the effective date for the new rules I also looked at whether the numbers of angel investors and angel
backed companies declined in 2010, 2011, or 2012. The CVR data show that both the number of
investors and the number of angel backed companies increased between 2009 and 2010, 2011 and
2012.
Comparing with 2009 might be unfair because that was a bad year for economy. Therefore, I
compared the 2013 figures with the 2007 (the last pre recession pre Dodd Frank year) numbers. In
2013, there were 15.7 percent more angel investors and 23.9 percent more angel backed companies
than in 2007.

The Great Depression Of The United States
Mary has appeared 9 major approved times by the Catholic Church. She appears in times of trouble to
urge people to recommit themselves to the church and inspire the conversion of sinners to Christianity.
Paragraph on Marian Apparitions, the 9 sites One of these modern apparitions of the Virgin Mother
was in Banneux, Belgium in 1933. 1929 saw the Wallstreet Crash in the United States which prompted
the Great Depression. This dramatic downfall of the United States economy had repercussions in
Europe, which lead to large unemployment rates and poverty. The global climate at the time would ve
socially and financially affected this small farming village. If the village was feeling in stride with the
rest of the world, they were most likely feeling very disheartened. In this apparition the blessed
mother chose to appear to an 11 year old girl, Mariette Becco. Banneux is a small town southeast of
Liège; it was a poor farming village centered on its church. Beautiful valleys of Ambleve, Vesdre, and
Hoëgne surround the town. The house that Mariette Becco lived in was small with a garden in the
front; the climate was humid and swampy. Across the street from her house was the edge of the Eifel
Forest. The Mother Mary appeared to a young girl named Mariette. Mariette lived with her mother,
father, and 10 younger siblings in their 4 bedroom house. The family was poor and although her father
was born Catholic they were not normal attendees at their local church, which makes

A Brief Note On Legislation And Poor Oversight
Cause: deregulatory legislation and poor oversight Since 2001, the Federal Reserve System chose

consumers costs appetite and brought investors enthusiasm. At last, it became inflation. It is clear that
there are many causes leaded to the financial crisis in the 2008. However, America s macro policy is
definitely the core reason for the financial crisis. Since 1999, America began to release financial
regulation. It made American financial ecological environment break out many problems. For
example, financial derivative instruments occurred changes, value chain became longer and longer,
which leaded to a subprime crisis. Before subprime crisis happened, the American government
proposed a series of acts and policies involved limited export. American government adopted different
trade barriers for developing countries. And it also limited technology products which push the
domestic products price increase and decrease the job opportunities. At the same time, the government
controlled domestic economical innovation power. That is also a main reason of financial crisis.

Compare And Contrast Young Goodman Brown And The Lottery
Introduction Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown and Shirley Jackson s The Lottery both
tell stories using literary techniques of tone, symbolism, and irony that help to convey stories that
leave the reader baffled by their ending. Although Hawthorne and Jackson utilize these literary
techniques in a different way, both of the stories end with a sense of darkness.
Tone
Hawthorne and Jackson have set different tones for their stories. Nathaniel Hawthorne creates a tone
that is somber and serious throughout most of the story of Yong Goodman Brown . The story tells of a
man, Goodman Brown, discovering evil. Even though Goodman Brown has apprehension about going
on the journey in the forest, he allows his curiosity to get the best of him and decides to attend the evil
ceremony in the forest. The tone of the story corresponds with the action occurring in the plot as one
of somberness. Brown goes along in his journey expecting something evil to take place. After learning
the nature of evil, he begins to feel that he is constantly surrounded by evil. This changes his attitude
from his background of piety and faith to a dark place that suspects evil in everything including his
wife. Unlike Young Goodman Brown , the tone of The Lottery begins with an anticipation of ... Show

hijacking billboards in attempt to make a statement regarding the incorrect messages presented to
consumers. In other words people who physically vandalize on ads out in the public to get their
opinion out, whether it be for electronics, fashion, food restaurants and so on. Culture jammers may
feel they are just as powerful as the multi billion dollar advertising corporations. If vandalism is a
crime then most certainly culture jamming is also considered a criminal activity. Although it may be
beneficial to be informed about the products and services we consumers buy, it is still not acceptable

Trumpeter Swan Research Paper
The Trumpeter Swan is an immense waterfowl with a heavy body and long neck; they can stretch to 6
feet in length and can weigh more than 25 pounds. These waterfowl can be found in North America,
Alaska, and Canada. They are known as one of the heaviest flying birds and are almost twice as big as
a Tundra Swan. The color pattern they are known for is their entirely white body and black legs and
bill. Immatures are a grayish brown with a mottled bill that is black at the base. During migration, the
Trumpeter Swan can be confused with the Tundra Swan. A few ways in which they differ is that the
juvenile swan s plumage persists until spring migration, they have narrower heads, and are larger.
These birds once nested over most of North America but began to disappear due to human
disturbance. However, due to conservation efforts that have been focused on reintroducing the species,
they are having a healthy comeback. Trumpeter Swans inhabit ponds, lakes, and rivers; in winter, they
may even inhabit bays. Historically, they seemed to favor fresh water over salt water, but that
description no longer applies to them. They forage in shallow water and on land, and will occasionally

the loss of muskrats and beavers harmed Trumpeter Swan populations due to the fact they use their

Though such events have occurred in the past. Today, one of Korea s and Japan s goals to claim the
Takeshima/Dokdo Island for their own is due to the abundant amount of natural resources that can be
found on and around the island. Though the island may not have enough fresh water for it to be
sustainable for a large nation to be residing on, the island does have a large amount of fish living in
the water around the island. It is already commonly known by many, that fishermen from both nations
are traveling towards the island in order to gain such marine resources. But because of such large
demand for fish located around the island, it caused conflicts between the two countries. In 1999, a
treaty was made that would help allow both countries to have fishing rights in certain areas. Even
though the two countries had the right to certain areas of water around the island, the ownership of the
seabed was not determined which led both Japan and Korea make multiple attempts to claim the area

Post Operative Education to a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Patient
One of the most frightening medical diagnoses a patient can receive from a physician is a
malfunctioning heart, a diagnosis that will eventually lead to death if correction of the issue is not
attempted. The heart supplies the entire body with oxygenated blood in addition to requiring its own
supply of oxygen rich blood. This is why coronary arteries are vital to the hearts ability to pump. A
final option to correcting non patent coronary arteries is a surgical procedure, coronary artery bypass
grafting (CABG). Every year approximately 450,000 patients have CABG surgery in the United States
(Mullen Fortino O Brien, 2008). Based on continuing healthcare trends, more and more people each
year are having coronary artery issues causing the need for CABG surgery to rise. Also patient
demographics are changing, they are older, sicker, coronary artery blockage / damage is more
extensive, and likely have a decrease in functioning of the hearts ventricles (Sidebotham, McKee,
Gillham Levy, 2007). The nursing profession not only has a critical role in caring for these patients,
but also in teaching and educating them before and after the procedure. Education and teaching has
been implemented into evidence based practice for years to facilitate better patient outcomes. The goal

Mona Lisa Analysis Essay
Fieldwork #2: Media Analysis for Gender Leonardo da Vinci s Mona Lisa
Section I: Objective Description This study serves as a gender focused analysis of Leonardo da Vinci s
Mona Lisa. The original piece of artwork was painted with oil on a white poplar panel in Florence,
Italy around 1503 during the latter part of Leonardo da Vinci s life. The artist was an Italian
Renaissance artist who had a wide variety of interests. The woman who is believed to be depicted in
the painting is Lisa Gherardini, a wife and mother of five children who married to an older man named
Francesco di Bartolomeo di Zanobi del Giocondo at the age of only fifteen. The words Mona Lisa
often translate to the words Madam Lisa . Leonardo da Vinci s painting of Mona Lisa has a strong
resemblance to the description of the Virgin Mary, which during the Renaissance period was viewed
as a representation of the ideal woman. The artist achieves a sense of softness around Mona Lisa s
eyes and mouth, portraying a kindness and calmness about the woman. Nevertheless, this painting was
also one of the first portraits to have an imaginary background, Leonardo strategically placed this
mysterious background at the woman s eye level so that the two are related to one another. The
background contains a large landscape with a very long path, cold mountains towards the distance,
and a very small bridge right above her shoulder on the right side of the painting. Despite her very soft
look, something about Mona Lisa and

Friar Lawrence To Blame Quotes
Friar Lawrence s role in Romeo and Juliet Who is to blame for the deaths in the end of the play
Romeo and Juliet? Friar Lawrence is a main character who definitely affects the storyline. Some
people might believe that Romeo and Juliet are to blame, but I believe, ultimately, Friar Lawrence is
to blame. Romeo could be to blame because he stupidly fell in love and made Friar Lawrence marry
him and Juliet. Romeo s careless actions brought devastation to the Capulet and Montague s families.
He had many near death experiences, but people other than him died. Friar Lawrence is suspicious
because of his role in the book, how he carried the blame, and how different the story would be
without him. Friar Lawrence s role in the play makes him suspicious ... Show more content on

Juliet wanted to get out of an arranged marriage with Paris so badly, she wanted to kill herself. She
was also distraught because Romeo was banned from Verona, and she can t see him. Friar Lawrence
helped her plan to fake her death, he gave her a potion to make her fall asleep for forty two hours.
Take thou this vial, being then in bed, When presently through all thy vein shall run a cold and drowsy
humor; for no pulse shall keep his native progress, but surcease; no warmth, no breath, shall testify
thou livest... (Shakespeare 818). This quote helps show that Friar was helping Juliet. He gives her a
vial of potion that she will take to hibernate. Because of this, Romeo believes Juliet is truly dead and
he kills himself, wanting to be with her. During this time of chaos, Friar Lawrence was supposed to go
down to the cellar and get Juliet so she didn t suffocate, but he didn t help Juliet. He let her kill herself,
which is exactly what happened. Yea, noise? Then I ll be brief. O happy dagger! This is thy sheath;
there rust, and let me die (Shakespeare 842). This quote shows that Friar Lawrence was there and he
just wanted them out of there because he heard a noise; he only cares about himself and his safety. He
didn t even bother to save Juliet when she was going crazy and stabbed herself. He left her alone and
attempted to get out of the tomb. He

How Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects For...
Divorce is one of many controversial subjects in family and human development research. What
inspired me to critically analyze the article Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects for
Children? is the challenge it would be for me to put my bias aside considering I am from a divorced

answering YES to this controversial question overlooked many variables and over generalized his
findings and research. With Zinsmeister overgeneralizing his research, not considering enough
alternate explanations for long term negative effects divorce, and his lack of relevant information
needed to assess reliability and validity are why I find this article to be insightful but not accurate and
hope to show why.
In the introduction to the article, the authors David Gately and Andrew Schwebel best wrote Karl
Zinsmeister uses studies of children and divorce to argue against the contention made by many parents

Divorce on Children , and A Catalogue of Behavioral Changes as a platform to prove/explain his
opinions and back them by research.

Preoperative Glycemic Control
Diabetes is a chronic illness, if not managed adequately puts surgical patients at a greater risk of

and evaluation including optimal preoperative glycemic control is key in cardiopulmonary risk
assessment and stratification. The complex correlation between surgery, anesthesia, and impaired

  • 2. Theme Of Women In The House On Mango Street For decades, the social stereotype of women hindering their rights to stay home and act as the caretaker has been widely accepted in various cultures and civilizations. Today, many individuals fight to renew women s rights and dissolve this stereotype, yet it is still prevalent amongst society. This issue is so relevant that many literary works have incorporated the idea into their theme. Throughout Sandra Cisneros novel The House on Mango Street, the idea of a woman by the window is repeatedly mentioned and symbolizes the belief that women cannot reach their full potential and are left watching life s possibilities pass them by. This image of a woman by a window is first introduced in the vignette My Name, however Cisneros integrates this idea in the duration of the novel to the point where it s embedded in the central theme. Esperanza describes her great grandmother whom she inherited her name as a wild horse of a woman, (Cisneros 11). She goes on to share that her great grandmother never forgave her great grandfather for stealing her away to marry. Esperanza explains, She [great grandmother] looked out the window her whole life, the way so many women sit their sadness on an elbow, and ponders if she was sorry because she couldn t be all the things she wanted to be, (Cisneros 11). The use of personification gives a feeling (sadness) the human like quality of sitting on an elbow, almost like the sadness had become a whole new body part of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A little more than half of all former sites have been transformed to recreation areas. And in most of those cases the mining companies that control the property pay for those areas (Gardner). Not all of the areas have been transferred to recreational areas. Other areas have been converted to land fills, industrial plants, and, roads and bridges. It is estimated that the mountain top removal mining companies have contributed over 50 billion dollars developing these projects and cleaning the sites since 1980. In September 2010, Gregory H. This can lead to confined patient care due to lack of understanding surrounding other health care professionals (HCP)1,2. The health care system is not compartmentalized, as seen through the collaboration many HCP s engage in daily in their practice2,3,4. This concept of teamwork is paramount in providing a more holistic, patient based approach to high quality care1,2,3,4,5. His determination allowed him to rise to power and destroy all opposition against his reign. The Great Purge, one of the greatest terrors in history, was also done due to his determination to stay in power. This same determination led to, as well as shaped, a large quantity of the events of World War 2. His leadership was similar to the leadership of Adolf Hitler, yet because of his determination, was quite different, and quite possibly more effective. In the end his determination for power led to the events of the Cold War. This determination greatly affected Stalin s rise to power, and allowed him to completely decimate all opposition to his leadership. Originally, Stalin was a powerless citizen of the USSR, yet he managed to quickly rise to the top of the political field. He began his role in politics by joining the Bolsheviks in 1903. Due to his thirst for power he steadily rose through the ranks of the party and was soon the General Secretary. The Bolshevik insurrection to Russian leadership was successful and placed Stalin in a position of great power. He then used his power to isolate members of the party in an attempt to take away their power and popularity. Determined to gain absolute dominance over the other members, he caused the dismissal, and possibly the deaths, of several of his political opponents. This left him in total rule over the Communist party, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using this mentoring approach to rehabilitative ends, allows for the successful integration of many different key factors that need to change in order for success. Mentoring has proven to be effective in treating crime and delinquency in multiple crime/offense types. Add to that as well the promising results in regard to drugs and substance abuse, educational improvements, and mental health and behavioral health involved with psychological functioning. In all, this gives credence to a program based on mentoring and using it to treat at risk youth between the ages of 6 and 18. Setting up this program requires a community partner in order to implement the program fully and effectively. It is for this reason I have partnered with the Police Athletic League. By engaging juveniles in the community, at a vulnerable time in their life, and surrounded by many great peers, creates the environment needed for this program to move forward. The Police Athletic League (PAL) is one of the oldest youth programs in the nation, catering to a variety of different sports. PAL builds relationships between law enforcement and youth within the community, and is based on the belief, that if tackled early enough, these youth can be aided in building strong relationships, not only with the community, but with the police serving in it as well. Armed with an agenda consistent with his conservative beliefs, President Bush came forth with policies that attempted to downsize the federal role in social issues and social work, to return power to the states in the form of block grants, and to increase reliance on the market as a solution to problems. Like his father before him, Bush wanted a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After adopting the Elizabethan Poor Laws from England, the United States seemed to be on its way to a private social welfare system. The Elizabethan Poor Laws created the distinction between worthy and unworthy poor and sent those unworthy of help to privately owned and operated workhouses (or poorhouses). The community and the family took primary responsibility for any needs a person might have had. Throughout much of the 1700s and 1800s, the government did nothing to regulate or deliver social services. A voluntary attitude toward societal problems soon developed (Zastrow, 1999). The official development of the profession of social work is recognized by scholars to be connected to the Charity Organization Society (COS) and the Settlement House Movements. Both started in the late 1800s. Jane Addams founded the first settlement house in 1889, and the Charity Organization Society started in Britain in the 1850s. These two separate and different movements are credited with developing the organization and delivery of social work (Karger Stoesz, 2001). The Charity Organization Society, led in the United States by Mary Richmond, finds parallels in both private sector social work and in the Conservative theory of today. The COS, for example, attributed poverty to the moral failings of the poor, ignoring social and economic forces that shaped individual behavior. Believers in private (voluntary) ... Do you agree with Beatty s assertion of representative government? If yes, how would you compare the political climate of the time to the current political climate? I agree with Beatty s claim in regards to the United States. Often times, elected officials would streamline legislation for the wealthy because they would receive gifts in return. This is most clearly seen through the Homestead Act and the distribution of land grants. There are many representative governments around the world that do work and are not as susceptible to special interests as the United States. For instance, Canada. Canada has a representative government, but they do not face the same issues of corruption as the United States. This is due to their campaign finance laws and the role contributions serve during a campaign. In Canada, an individual may only contribute a maximum of $1,500 to a political candidate or party. Demand Estimation Has Been At The Heart Of Many Studies Literature Review Demand estimation has been at the heart of many studies that focus on questions regarding market power, merger and acquisition, research and innovation and valuation of new brands in differentiated products industries. Under the framework of demand estimation, Bresnahan (1987) constructs equilibrium models of oligopoly under product differentiation and studies the competition and collusion in the 1995 price war in the American automobile industry. For example, in a log log demand system, where logarithms of quantities are linear functions of logarithms of all prices, without additional restrictions, we would have 10,000 parameters if there were 100 differentiated products in the market. The second concern introduced when doing demand estimation for differentiated product is the heterogeneity in consumer tastes. Dixit and Stiglizt (1997) suggest a representative consumer approach to deal with this. They assume that consumer preferences are of the right form so that an average consumer exists; there exists a demand system that lends itself to the level of differentiation observed in the marketplace. However, the required assumptions are strong and empirically false for many applications (Nevo, 2000). The above two problems are addressed by logit demand model (McFadden, 1973). The logit model solves dimensionality problem by projecting the products onto a space of characteristics; in this way, the dimension of the attribute space instead of the square of the number of products becomes the relevant size. However, due to the restrictive way of modeling heterogeneity and the property of independence from irrelevant alternatives (IIA property) in the logit model, substitution pattern between products is driven completely by ... For the United States, the Gulf region remains one of the most geo strategically important locations in the world for diplomatic, intelligence cooperation, and business opportunities such as hydrocarbons and arms. This strategic cooperation has provided the region some stability, particularly with the rise of Iran and the Shi a crescent and the chaotic outcome of the war in Iraq. Though the island may not have enough fresh water for it to be sustainable for a large nation to be residing on, the island does have a large amount of fish living in the water around the island. It is already commonly known by many, that fishermen from both nations are traveling towards the island in order to gain such marine resources. But because of such large demand for fish located around the island, it caused conflicts between the two countries. In 1999, a treaty was made that would help allow both countries to have fishing rights in certain areas. Even though the two countries had the right to certain areas of water around the island, the ownership of the seabed was not determined which led both Japan and Korea make multiple attempts to claim the area for themselves in 2006 (Emmers 16), but no ... • 30. Post Operative Education For A Coronary Artery Bypass Post Operative Education for a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Patient Aleks J. Perrin Remington College School of Nursing Post Operative Education to a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Patient One of the most frightening medical diagnoses a patient can receive from a physician is a malfunctioning heart, a diagnosis that will eventually lead to death if correction of the issue is not attempted. The heart supplies the entire body with oxygenated blood in addition to requiring its own supply of oxygen rich blood. This is why coronary arteries are vital to the hearts ability to pump. A final option to correcting non patent coronary arteries is a surgical procedure, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Every year approximately 450,000 patients have CABG surgery in the United States (Mullen Fortino O Brien, 2008). Based on continuing healthcare trends, more and more people each year are having coronary artery issues causing the need for CABG surgery to rise. Also patient demographics are changing, they are older, sicker, coronary artery blockage / damage is more extensive, and likely have a decrease in functioning of the hearts ventricles (Sidebotham, McKee, Gillham Levy, 2007). The nursing profession not only has a critical role in caring for these patients, but also in teaching and educating them before and after the procedure. Education and teaching has been implemented into evidence based practice for years to facilitate better patient outcomes. The goal of this literature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Mona Lisa Analysis Essay Fieldwork #2: Media Analysis for Gender Leonardo da Vinci s Mona Lisa Section I: Objective Description This study serves as a gender focused analysis of Leonardo da Vinci s Mona Lisa. The original piece of artwork was painted with oil on a white poplar panel in Florence, Italy around 1503 during the latter part of Leonardo da Vinci s life. The artist was an Italian Renaissance artist who had a wide variety of interests. The woman who is believed to be depicted in the painting is Lisa Gherardini, a wife and mother of five children who married to an older man named Francesco di Bartolomeo di Zanobi del Giocondo at the age of only fifteen. The words Mona Lisa often translate to the words Madam Lisa . Leonardo da Vinci s painting of Mona Lisa has a strong resemblance to the description of the Virgin Mary, which during the Renaissance period was viewed as a representation of the ideal woman. The artist achieves a sense of softness around Mona Lisa s eyes and mouth, portraying a kindness and calmness about the woman. Nevertheless, this painting was also one of the first portraits to have an imaginary background, Leonardo strategically placed this mysterious background at the woman s eye level so that the two are related to one another. The background contains a large landscape with a very long path, cold mountains towards the distance, and a very small bridge right above her shoulder on the right side of the painting. Despite her very soft look, something about Mona Lisa and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Friar Lawrence To Blame Quotes Friar Lawrence s role in Romeo and Juliet Who is to blame for the deaths in the end of the play Romeo and Juliet? Friar Lawrence is a main character who definitely affects the storyline. Some people might believe that Romeo and Juliet are to blame, but I believe, ultimately, Friar Lawrence is to blame. Romeo could be to blame because he stupidly fell in love and made Friar Lawrence marry him and Juliet. Romeo s careless actions brought devastation to the Capulet and Montague s families. He had many near death experiences, but people other than him died. Friar Lawrence is suspicious because of his role in the book, how he carried the blame, and how different the story would be without him. Friar Lawrence s role in the play makes him suspicious ... She was also distraught because Romeo was banned from Verona, and she can t see him. Friar Lawrence helped her plan to fake her death, he gave her a potion to make her fall asleep for forty two hours. Take thou this vial, being then in bed, When presently through all thy vein shall run a cold and drowsy humor; for no pulse shall keep his native progress, but surcease; no warmth, no breath, shall testify thou livest... (Shakespeare 818). This quote helps show that Friar was helping Juliet. He gives her a vial of potion that she will take to hibernate. Because of this, Romeo believes Juliet is truly dead and he kills himself, wanting to be with her. During this time of chaos, Friar Lawrence was supposed to go down to the cellar and get Juliet so she didn t suffocate, but he didn t help Juliet. He let her kill herself, which is exactly what happened. Yea, noise? Then I ll be brief. O happy dagger! This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die (Shakespeare 842). This quote shows that Friar Lawrence was there and he just wanted them out of there because he heard a noise; he only cares about himself and his safety. He didn t even bother to save Juliet when she was going crazy and stabbed herself. He left her alone and attempted to get out of the tomb. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. How Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects For... Divorce is one of many controversial subjects in family and human development research. What inspired me to critically analyze the article Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects for Children? is the challenge it would be for me to put my bias aside considering I am from a divorced home. After reading the article and analyzing it over and over, I can t help but think that the writer answering YES to this controversial question overlooked many variables and over generalized his findings and research. With Zinsmeister overgeneralizing his research, not considering enough alternate explanations for long term negative effects divorce, and his lack of relevant information needed to assess reliability and validity are why I find this article to be insightful but not accurate and hope to show why. In the introduction to the article, the authors David Gately and Andrew Schwebel best wrote Karl Zinsmeister uses studies of children and divorce to argue against the contention made by many parents that it is better to divorce than to rear children in a marriage with conflict. He maintains that children s sense of stability and family structure supersedes parental needs. Throughout the article Zinsmeister uses the headings Fear and Loathing of Divorce Among the Young , Short and Long Term effects of Divorce on Children , and A Catalogue of Behavioral Changes as a platform to prove/explain his opinions and back them by research. Essentially Zinsmeister wrote one: that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Preoperative Glycemic Control Research Paper Preoperative Glycemic Control Degie Gelaw American Sentinel University Preoperative Glycemic Control Diabetes is a chronic illness, if not managed adequately puts surgical patients at a greater risk of cardiopulmonary complications and suboptimal outcome. Hence, thorough preoperative assessment and evaluation including optimal preoperative glycemic control is key in cardiopulmonary risk assessment and stratification.
