2. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real music magazines?
The way this front cover uses typical
conventions is by having a masthead, sell line
and a picture on the front cover. Also other
conventions it uses are the colour scheme so
for my magazine I have chosen red, black and
white which shows I have used a colour
scheme for my front cover. I have used
advertisement when it says “ Win tickets to
see BIG JAY live” also I have a slogan for my
magazine. This shows I understand the
conventions of what’s expected on a
magazine front cover. How does your media product represent any
particular social groups?
The way my media product represents social groups is mainly by the genre I have chose
which is rap music. This identifies my social group as male and possibly females from the
age of 14 and above. Also it is not aimed at a particular ethnicity.
3. Slogan helps
to make the
magazine
more
noticeable by
the
audience.
Masthead “GET
HYPER” chosen this
mast head as it
makes the magazine
full of energy
Sell lines so
the reader
knows what
articles is in
the
magazine.
Opportunity for the
reader to win tickets
away too attract my
audience.
Front
cover
picture.
Main sell line
linked with
who is on the
front cover.
4. The conventions I have used for my contents page is the
main convention expected which is the page numbers
telling the reader where to find the artists who they want
to read about also I have carried on using the same colour
scheme from my front cover on my contents page. The
reason why I have laid out my contents page like this
because I aimed to make it simple for the reader to find
the pages they want to read about because there might
be some pages they want to avoid etc. I have carried on
with the same colour scheme because it makes my
contents page connected with the front cover for example
if you use different set of colours for the front cover and
contents page it can make the front cover and contents
look as if they are not from the same magazine. This is
seen on the magazine XXL where the front cover and
contents page look like their from the same magazine as
the same colours are used.
5. The conventions I have used for this
double page spread is the lay out so I have
noticed in most magazines the double
page spread the page sometimes splits the
picture and the text. So I have put the
picture on one half of the page and the
text on the other half, I have chose to lay
out my double page spread like this so its
easy for the reader instead of the text
going over the picture and making it
difficult for the reader to read the text. I
have stuck with the same colour scheme
as my front cover as contents page as it
makes my double page spread fit in with
the magazine because if I chose a different
colour scheme it wouldn’t make this
double page spread seem a part of the
magazine. The style I have chosen to do
the text is a question and answer as it is
easy for the reader to get to know more
about the artist.
6. What kind of media institution may be interested in my
magazine.
The type of media institution that might be interested
in this magazine is a music institution who's main genre
is rap. I think that they will be interested in this
magazine because it has the main conventions a
magazine should have and the sell lines have known
rappers for example jay z and 50 cent. So these will be
the main conventions that the institution will be
looking for and that could make them be interested in
this magazine.
7. The audience this magazine is aimed at.
The audience for this media product will be teenager's
and adults so looking at the age of 14 and above because
normally at the age of 14 or maybe younger that's when
people will start listening to music, start to know more
about the music industry so at age 14 their knowledge
will be good and magazine like this. They will understand
and know the people who are on it. I also have taken a
14+ age because at any age whether your and adult or a
teenager you may still listen to rap music, your really
never too old for music like that. The gender for my
magazine may be mainly seen as its for males but it also
can be for females as in my research females do listen to
rap as much as males.
8. How did you attract your audience?
The way this magazine attracts the audience will
mainly be by who is in the magazine?. Are there
famous rappers in this magazine? That's the
type of questions that the audience will ask
themselves and my magazine answers those
questions as it does have famous artists. This is
the main feature that will attract my
audience. Also I have tickets for which the
audience could win so this is another way which
attracts my audience.
9. What I learnt from technology in making
my magazine.
I used adobe photo shop and I have learnt many skills
on how to make my magazine. When I started making
my front cover I didn’t know how to use Photoshop as
it was my first time so I learnt the effects and how to
develop my front cover. When I made my contents page
and double page spread photo shop was easier to use
and I used what I learnt from making my front cover to
making my contents page and double page spread.
10. What have I learnt in making my
magazine?
What I have learnt about this task is my
knowledge of magazines especially music
magazines. I have understood similarities
between magazines, the conventions of
magazines such as the lay out, the colour
scheme set and what sell lines should be about.
I have used these features to help construct my
magazine.
