asked her grandmother for ideas. "Well' her grandmother said, "you should host a picnic in the back"

spread the news, first , she ran past humpty dumpty's wall and told him all about the picnic "that
sounds delightful just make sure there are no egg products !" he says with a chuckle, "ok ,make sure

When she stopped she heard a howl and immediately knew who lived there... The Big Bad Wolf,
little red riding hood ran as fast as she could all the way to her grandmother's house. As soon as she
ran into the house she told her grandmother everything that happened. "I told you to stay away from
those woods red!", "Sorry grandma i just thought that it would be a shortcut to your house". Her

Laura ingalls wilder
By:Callie Pagel
Laura Ingalls Wilder was born on February 7, 1867, near Pepin, Wisconsin. From 1882–1885 she
was a teacher in South Dakota. She married Almanzo Wilder in 1885. In 1932, she published Little
House in the Big Woods, the first of her "Little House" books. Wilder finished the last book in 1943.
On February 10, 1957, she died at age 90, on her farm in Mansfield, Missouri.
Early Life
Laura Ingalls Wilder was born on February 7, 1867, to Charles and Caroline Ingalls in their log
cabin just outside of Pepin, Wisconsin. In her books, Wilder would later come to call the cabin "The
Little House in the Big Woods." Two years after her birth, in 1869, her family moved to Kansas,
which would become the setting for her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During her time teaching at Bouchie School, her parents often sent a family friend named Almanzo
Wilder to pick her up and bring her home for weekend visits.
Marriage and Children
Over the course of their wagon rides home, Laura and Almanzo fell in love. On August 25, 1885, the
two were married at a congregational church in South Dakota. Afterward, Laura quit teaching to
raise children and help Almanzo work the farm. In the winter of 1886, Laura gave birth to a
daughter, Rose. In August of 1889 she had a son who tragically died within a month of his birth. Not
long after, Almanzo contracted diphtheria and was partially paralyzed. To make matters worse, in
1890, the Wilders ' home burned to the ground.
After four years of drifting from place to place, in 1894 the Wilders bought a 200–acre farm in the
Ozarks of Mansfield, Missouri. On Rocky Ridge Farm, as they came to call it, the Wilders built a
farmhouse, raised livestock and did all their own farm work.
The 'Little House ' Series
In the 1910s Wilder 's daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, by then grown up and a reporter for the San
Francisco Bulletin, encouraged her mother to write about her childhood. In the 1920s, Wilder 's first
attempt at writing an autobiography, called Pioneer Girl, was uniformly rejected by publishers.
Determined to succeed, Wilder spent the next several years reworking her writing,

The Great Fire of 1871 Essay example
Today I'll talk about a horrible disaster that happened one night in 1871. It started out a peaceful
night with the wind blowing harder than usual. Almost everyone was asleep because of their normal
busy lives that they thought they would be doing in the morning.
The Beginning
October 8, 1871: It was a dry, dry Sunday night. Dan Sullivan went on a walk to visit some
neighbors, but when he got to the neighborhood he saw flames rolling out of the O'Leary's barn. He
took action and immediately started to yell, "FIRE!" to wake up his friends and neighbors. Dennis
Rogan had heard Mr. Sullivan and quickly ran to the O'Leary's house. He tried knocking on the
door, but then he busted down the door and started yelling for the O'Leary's to wake up. ... Show

The firefighter's barricade of water and firefighting was not enough. The fire was scorching hot. You
could get burned by standing by it. The firefighters had an idea of one firefighter holding a door in
between a firefighter and the fire while he sprayed it. This plan worked well until the door burst into
flames. Soon the little barricade of fire trucks and firefighters was broken and they were forced
back.
A Call for Help That Never Got Heard When the chief saw that his men were being pushed back he
sent a young firefighter rushing to Goll's Drugstore to send in an alarm for reinforcements. When
the firefighter got there Goll was gone so he broke the glass that guarded the alarm box and pushed
the button down. Unfortunately, he forgot to push it down a second time telling the office that it was
a message for reinforcements. Instead the alarm office at the courthouse thought it was another
person turning in the exact same fire. So they never sent in extra trucks. It wasn't until the watchman
from different station saw that the fire and the extra trucks were sent. By then it was too late the
flames were now too big for any of the trucks to handle. The fire soon grew bigger and bigger. Then
it started to move to the west side of Chicago. At first people thought it would be no big deal. But
soon they saw it advance to their homes with big orange and crimson flames. Hundreds of people
rushed to flee

Short Story : ' The Fear Of Noise '
Acousticophobia, The fear of noise. Bethany a sophomore in college lived 80 miles away from her
parents in a town called Little Ivy Wood. Little Ivy Wood was a small town which was dark and
quiet. In fact was so dark that a single light would light up the rest of the town. Little Ivy Wood was
my residence and I liked it the way it is, dark, quite, small and it was perfect for my occupation.
Going back to Bethany, she was a young lady who had something special that everyone knew about.
Gold locket. Clearly it was passed from generations down in her family it was known to be magical.
Also, I forgot she had the fear of noise, like a scream, ringtones, and doorbells. Unpredictably one
day the doorbell rang at Bethany 's house. As expected, she screamed and the person outside knew
there was someone in the house. Also Bethany had always wanted her parents to be with her, but she
had no choice but to stay alone. As she was going to open the door a small piece of paper came
through the front door. On top of that the note read, "Feeling lonely, Don't worry, I'm here for you."
As a result, Bethany was terrified and couldn't see how the person would know what was going on
in her mind. In hesitation, she decided to call her parents to see if they were home and would visit
her. Since her parents didn't pick up she called her neighbor, Brook. She was tall, slender girl who
loved to play soccer and couple months she was a witness in a kidnapping case. Tragically, Brook's
parents died in a

Personal Narrative: Where Did All Of This Come From
Where Did All Of This Come From It was another normal day in the little town of Person Georgia. I
was sitting in my house with nothing to do. I went outside to see what I could do. After a little
hiking in the woods, playing with my baby sisters, and riding my Polaris razor, I seemed to be
getting bored again. I went back inside, and I went into my sister's room to get my bb gun out of her
closet. When I looked up I saw a little opening in the roof. I went up there to see if I could find
anything cool. When I got in there I noticed a glimmer on the other side. I went over there I noticed
that there was, what looked like, a little boarded up window leading to the outside. Though in the
two years of me being here I never notice anything such

Moral Lessons for Children Depicted in Three Versions of...
Fairy tales read to young children not only served as a form of entertainment for the child, but they
also taught children the difference between what is good and what is bad. The Three Little Pigs is a
prime example of the morals and lessons that children were taught while reading a fairy tale. The
fact that the tale is equipped with adventure and the ability for animals to talk causes children to
immerse in the text while acknowledging the consequences of laziness of the first two little pigs and
the result of evil for the sneakiness of the big bad wolf. The tale does however teach children the
benefits of hard–work when at the end the third pig lives happily ever after in his sturdy house made
of bricks. Comparing three different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tales today have much more pleasant ending and children most likely will not be as frightened
but instead learn the moral lessons that the tale is trying to portray through its vivid illustrations and
excessive amount of repetition. The first version of the Three Little Pigs that I analyzed was by Paul
Gadon and it closely mimicked the original version of the tale. When reading the tale I was baffled
by some of the events that took place. Growing up my mother made sure that I did not read any
material that she felt would give me nightmares or would give me a negative way of thinking.
Because I was forced to read the revised version I never knew the truth behind the tale until just
recently. In Gadon's version the first two little pigs surprisingly get eaten by the big bad wolf.
Witnessing the two pigs get eaten by the wolf was very tragic and without a doubt left me in shock.
This version of the tale shows children that the consequences of "lazy work" results in terrible
consequences. Were the houses falling down not enough? Why did they have to get eaten? Does this
brutal act change the thinking of Children? Because it is scientifically proven that children often
repeat what they here or act out what they see I must agree with Mrs. Trimmer that the original
version of many fairy tales may have a negative effect on children. At a young age most children do
not understand the difference between

Essay on Narrative Style of Little House on The Prairie
Narrative Style of Little House on The Prairie
When you first start reading Little House on the Prairie you notice it is told through the eyes of a
little girl named Laura. Her point of view is very realistic and captivating. She pays very close
attention to the details of the day to day living and the events that are happening around her. She
also notices how the prairie looks and what the weather is like each day. With her descriptions you
can picture everything in your mind clearly, and you feel like you are right there next to Laura living
her life.
When Laura is describing something she appeals to our senses by informing you how something
smells, feels, sounds, or tastes. She describes how Ma makes their food and what ... Show more

First, he unhitched and unharnessed Pet and Patty, and he put them on their picket–line. While Pet
and Patty were rolling, Pa pulled all the grass from a large, round space of ground. When the space
was clear of grass, Pa laid a handful of dry grass in its center. From the creek bottoms he brought an
armful of twigs and dead wood. He laid small twigs and larger twigs and then the wood on the
handful of dry grass, and he lighted the grass. Then Pa brought water from the creek, while Mary
and Laura helped Ma get supper" (28, 29).
Another part of the story that Laura describes very deeply was when Pa built the log cabin, chimney,
and the well digging. You knew every step and how he did it and what he used to make everything.
If a person wanted to, they could probably build a log cabin or dig a well by her descriptions.
Laura enjoys describing the way the prairie looks each day because she loves it so much. She pays
close attention to the details of the flowers and grasses and how the wind is blowing. The animals on
the prairie are described often also since the prairie was full of wildlife back then. You often found
her describing the weather too. She found the weather on the prairie very interesting and quite
different than the weather in Wisconsin. "Day after day was hotter then the day before. The wind
was hot. The grass was turning yellow. The whole world was rippling green and gold under the
blazing sky. At noon the wind died. No birds

Goldilocks And Red Riding Hood Comparative Essay
The story of Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks are very different but similar in some ways.
The story of Goldilocks has to do with a little girl breaking into a family of bears' house, while Little
Red Riding Hood centers on a little girl going to her grandmother's house to later discover there is a
wolf impersonating as her grandma. However, the girls' decisions are the reason the stories are even
famous. Goldilocks and Red Riding Hood made different decisions that affected the plot of both
stories. If Little Red Riding Hood had never gone to her grandmother's house, she would never have
known there was a wolf in disguise. The same concept applies to Goldilocks. If she had never
wandered into the bears' home or if she had completed her crimes quicker, the story would be
completely different. Red Riding Hood's decisions are cautious and thoughtful, unlike those of
Goldilocks. She was being generous by giving her grandmother some fresh cakes that she made
while Goldilocks broke into a home, ate their food, and broke their furniture. Goldilocks ventures
into the woods without her parent's permission while Red Riding Hood's parents knew her
whereabouts. Goldilocks simply doesn't care about how others feel, and she makes herself the first
priority over everything and everyone else. Both of the children made brave decisions. They both
decide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both involve two young girls walking in the woods. However, the girls make very different
decisions in each story. While Goldilocks makes irresponsible decisions, she is never really in
danger. Red Riding Hood makes responsible decisions, but she finds herself in serious danger with
the wicked wolf. Goldilocks just runs away at the end of the story while Red Riding Hood is rescued
by the woodcutter from a certain death. The decisions of both girls determine the plot of each

What Is The Role Of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Early Childhood
The role of a pioneer women usually involved cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children.
The school houses were really far apart from where most people lived because everything was so
spread out, so most of the kids in the pioneer days were taught at home by the women in the house,
or they went to the school houses by wagon or they had to walk depending on how close it was.
Some of the women worked as partners with the pioneer men with establishing homes. Once and in
a while they would bring the wood in, but they mostly just did the household stuff, and they took
care of the kids.

Compare And Contrast Versions Of Little Red Riding Hood
Little Red Riding Hood" is a European fairy tale about a young girl and the big bad wolf with
origins that can be traced back to the 17th century. There have been many different interpretations
written of the story. "Little Red Riding Hood" by Charles Perrault and "Little Red Cap" by Brothers
Grimm are just two of the many contrasting renditions. The two tales are similar, but they are also
different. The variations of the story translate the same lesson to be learned at the end. Amongst
various versions of the "Little Red Riding Hood" fairy tale authored by Charles Perrault and the
Brothers Grimm, the interaction that the little girl has with the wolf symbolizes the expressional
meaning to not judge a book by its cover.
The little girl is the main character in each of the stories. She is recognized as the prettiest, most
lovable girl in the village. She is known as Little Red Riding Hood in Perrault's version. On the
other hand, she is referred to as Little Red Cap in Grimm's version. She acquired her name because
of always wearing her little red hood/cap all the time. The person who loved and adored her most of
all was her grandmother.
Grandmother lived deep in the woods in another village in both stories. Grandmother made a little
red hood for Little Red Riding Hood in Perrault's version. On the other hand, she made a little cap of
red velvet for Little Red Cap in Grimm's rendition. Grandmother is ill at home in bed in both stories.
In both tales, the little girl lived

Little Red Riding Hood Monologue
We all know the story about Little Red Riding Hood. She went to her grandma's house and got
attacked by the big bad wolf. Now I will tell you what really happened.
It was a nice sunny day in the middle of summer. There was a girl who everyone called Little Red
Riding Hood (because she always wore a red jacket with a red hood and she was small), but her real
name was Elizabeth. Elizabeth the cruel.
She was just getting out of church and walking home, but on her way, a bluebird approached her and
said that her grandma was very ill. The bird told Red that her grandma might die if she did not have
any medicine soon. Little Red immediately sprinted home, grabbed some medicine and a picnic

She said, "My, what big feet you have." I tried to talk like grandma, but my gruff voice gave me
away.
Little Red Riding Hood knew that it was me. She yelled, "Did you eat her?" "No, no!" I cried. "She
went to the hospital!"
"I don't believe you," Little Red screamed as she pulled out her gun.
Just then, fox leaped out of his hiding spot and attacked Red from behind. Fox and I fled the house.
Later that night when grandma got home, she saw that Little Red Riding Hood was hurt. Grandma
took her to the hospital. When Red told them about what had happened, the cops thought the hair

A Brief Biography Of Laura Ingalls Wilder
Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote many books that we are familiar with today; in particular, the Little
House series. Even before Laura Ingalls Wilder had the fame of the books, which were not
published until later in her life, she would write short nonfiction pieces for newspapers and
magazines (Hines). Laura Ingalls Wilder started first as a teacher, fell in love with and married
Almanzo Wilder which caused her to quit teaching, and subsequently had two children – a daughter
named Rose and a son who died soon after his birth. Although Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote many
books which are what gained her lasting success; she also wrote essays about her outlook on life as
well as politics during WWI. Rose, her daughter, grew up and like her mother eventually began to
write for a newspaper. She encouraged her mother to write about her childhood. The original story
Ms. Wilder wrote was very different than the one we are familiar with today. Originally called,
Pioneer Girl, it was a first person account covering her life from about the time she was three until
the age of eighteen, and began with the words "Once upon a time..." (Mumford). The publishers
kept on rejecting it, but Laura never gave up (Hines). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She overcame every odd, so that she could tell her story and let others know her truthful opinion on
the matter at hand. She never gave up and therefore published her famous book series The Little
House on the Prairie. She once said, "I did not realize I was writing history." (Laura). Nevertheless
that is exactly what her writings have done, they have captured the essence of the pioneer way of life
that those of us today can only imagine about. Her characters have remain well loved and enjoyed
for many generations, and will likely be so for the foreseeable future. Even though she faced many
trials in her lifetime, she was able to share them in her writings that reflect her attitude of

Fairy Godmother: The Fairy Grandmother
Once upon a time there was a really poor little girl named Anna. She nearly does not had any
clothes, only a worn dress and some flip flops. One day she was invited to a party at the king's
castle. Her mother could only afford one dress so she bought one for herself, which Anna could
totally understand, but she was still really sad, because everyone would have beautiful clothes on.
The day before the gala, her fairy godmother showed up. Anna was so surprised and thankful that
she was shaking and almost crying. The fairy godmother gave her the most beautiful red riding
cloak. And from that day everyone called her little red riding hood.

The wolf let out a satisfied burp, and then poked through Grandma's wardrobe to find a dress that he

A few minutes later, Red Riding Hood knocked on the door. The wolf jumped into bed and pulled

Personal Narrative: How I Lived Off The Land
As the journey begins I would like to tell you from a little girl point of view how I lived off the land.
Although raised by my grandmother, the first eight of life began with helping grandma with the yard
work getting ready to plant all kinds of vegetables. Such as tomatoes, cucumber, squash, onions,
salad greens, butter bean, and pole beans. These are just to name a few of the things that was
planted. Grandma had a nice big garden, and when the weeds and grass grew they was all mixed up
with the vegetables plants, so my brother and I had to go out every week and pulled out all that grass
and weeds so they won't choke the good stuff. Not only did we ate from a garden, we also ate wild

tell you this as well, the outhouse it was called in those days was the bathroom, yes "I said the

foot tubs and a scrub board for washing clothes. Another way we lived off the land was cutting
wood for the wood stove, this was our source of heat that was used in the house. On those cold
winter days one will never forget getting up in the early mornings, half to go out and get wood from
the wood pile and start a fire in the wood stove. I am so glad that this quandary life for a little girl
has prepared me for a life to know how to survive when it came to hard times when the modern day
electric might go out and you have no way to cook because the power is gone

Short Story : ' Little Red Riding Hood '
Once upon a time there was a dear little girl who was loved by everyone who looked at her, but most
of all by her grandmother, and there was nothing that she would not have given to the child. Once
she gave her a little riding hood of red velvet, which suited her so well that she would never wear
anything else; so she was always called 'Little Red Riding Hood. '
One day her mother said to her: 'Come, Little Red Riding Hood, here is a piece of cake and a bottle
of wine; take them to your grandmother, she is ill and weak, and they will do her good. Set out
before it gets hot, and when you are going, walk nicely and quietly and do not run off the path, or
you may fall and break the bottle, and then your grandmother will get nothing; and when you go
into her room, don 't forget to say, "Good morning", and don 't peep into every corner before you do
it. '
'I will take great care, ' said Little Red Riding Hood to her mother, and gave her hand on it.
The grandmother lived out in the wood, half a league from the village, and just as Little Red Riding
Hood entered the wood, a wolf met her. Red Riding Hood did not know what a wicked creature he
was, and was not at all afraid of him.
'Good day, Little Red Riding Hood, ' said he.

The Changes in the Carpentry Industry The carpentry industry has changed drastically through time,
and this is because of all the developments that have happened. The main change is technology. The
carpentry industry is very thankful for all the new technology. Technology has increased the time
spent and even the cost of the project. Technology is not the only factor changing the carpentry
industry. Different methods of completing projects have played a big role in changes. Carpenters
have developed new and better techniques that help this industry advance. Carpentry is changing

The workers then have to redo the project. This takes up a lot of time. Now the workers are behind
and might not finish in time. New workers also slow down the process. The contractors have to take
the time to train the new workers. They also have a tendency to make more mistakes. Since the new
workers have little experience, they are slower and usually are the ones to make most of the
mistakes. This is why contractors prefer people with experience over new workers. The only
problem is that people with experience want to get paid more. Good communication is always
important to have for better productivity. It is very important so that the workers know what they are
doing and how they are going to do it. Planning everything out before will create fewer problems,
and the work will be more productive.
Tools have changed the face of carpentry forever. Newer tools have shortened the time of work, the
quality of the finished products, and the depth of this project. Power tools have made a big
contribution to these tools such as levels, plans, and crosscut saws. They do the work in less time
and are now more accurate (Britannica). Specific tools that have helped are lasers and GPS. Their
main use is for setting up the building corners and building perimeters. Before lasers and GPS was
available, workers used to do all of this work using string and tape measures (Craig). Now the work
is done far more accurately the first time. It has reduced the amount of time spent at

Who Is Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House In The Big Woods
Little House in the Big Woods is a memoir written by Laura Ingalls Wilder that encompasses a year
of her life when she was a very young girl. Beginning in the late fall, Wilder tells of endless
preparations for the winter. Her family lived deep in the woods of Wisconsin, and her father would
go hunting and butcher some of their animals so that her family would have lots of provisions to last
them until spring. When winter set in, her father would still hunt during the day, but because the
nights were longer, her father would sit and tell her and her sister Laura stories and let them help
him get his gun ready for the next day.

##ymbolism, And Language In The Little House By Laura...

She was born on February 7th 1876 and lived until age ninety. Wilder was the author of The Little
House series the second book in the series is about her husband's experiences growing up on a farm
in New York. The third book is about the time Wilder spent on the American Prairie. In these books,
Wilder uses imagery, symbolism, and language from when she was growing up. One of the most
common elements is Wilder's writing is imagery. She uses beautiful compilations of words to paint a
picture in the minds of readers. An example of this is, "In a perfect circle the sky curved down to the
level land and the wagon was in the circle's exact middle," (13). This is a description of how it
looked when Wilder was traveling on the American Prairie. This quote could make you feel two
different things, freedom and loneliness. At this point in time, Wilder and her family were probably
feeling a mix of both. Later in the book, Wilder provides another example, Everything was striped
there. Stripes of sunshine came through the cracks in the west wall, and stripes of shadow came
down from the poles overhead. The stripes of shade and sunshine were all across Laura's bare feet.
And through the cracks between the logs she could see stripes of prairie. The sweet smell of the
prairie mixed with the sweet smell of cut wood. This particular piece of imagery describes how it
looked when Pa first finished

Comparing Goldilocks And Little Red Riding Hood
Have you ever put much thought into the decisions of the fairy tale characters that you grew up
hearing about about? Have you ever stopped to consider that maybe their actions and decisions
resemble each other? Goldilocks and the three bears is a classic fairy tale that most children grow up
hearing, Goldilocks made plenty of decisions; she decided to go into the forest, she decided to enter
a house, she discovered, she decided to eat porridge, to sit in a chair, and to doze off in a bed that
she found. Goldilocks made a lot of decisions, she wasn't the only one though. Little Red Riding
Hood is another fairy tale that we all know. Little Red made numerous decisions herself, she decided
to bring her ill Granny some soup in hopes of making her feel better. Little Red decided to go into
the woods alone, she decided to proceed fearlessly into the woods, even though there may be a
malicious wolf lurking in the trees. Goldilocks and Little Red both made decisions, those decisions
were similar, in that both of their decisions involved the girls going into the woods unaccompanied,
going into a house and more. However, they had made different decisions as well, and the reasons
behind their decisions were very different. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gender Roles in Children’s Books: An Examination of...
People use several different classification systems to help organize a complex society. For example,
scientists use a system composed of hierarchies in order to place animals in their proper kingdom,
phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species. By creating this classification system, people of
society are better able to understand the relationships that these animals have with each other. Just as
scientists use this hierarchy to organize animals, people use the concept of gender to classify their
own kind. However, many people fail to realize that gender, unlike the system of hierarchies used by
scientists to classify animals, is not biologically based. While sex is a biological concept, gender can
be defined as the sociological, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From birth, baby boys are dressed in blue and baby girls are dressed in pink and are sometimes
characterized by pierced ears.
Once gender roles are assigned, people treat one another accordingly. Boys are taught to be
competitive and are trained to use teamwork, whereas girls are treated more delicately because
society expects them to be nurturing. From birth on, then, girls and boys are taught by society what
it means to be feminine and masculine, respectively.
Another sociologist, Michael Messner, illustrates how society "does gender" by discussing the
elective affinity between masculinity and sports through his piece entitled, "Boyhood, Organized
Sports, and the Construction of Masculinities" (Messner, 1990). In this article Messner claims that
sports teach people to devalue femininity, which is evident through negative expressions coined by
society such as "You throw like a girl." Because playing sports teaches aggression and teamwork,
the world of sports is an institution that is built around masculinity. Even when women play sports,
they are masculinized.
Due to the idea that gender roles are assigned at birth, it would be interesting to explore how
children's book authors promote masculinity and femininity through the messages conveyed in their
storytelling. Two books from different time periods, Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House in the Big
Woods and J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, will be examined.
Lorber would argue that in

I Should Start My Story At The End Of A Mystery
suppose I should start my story at the beginning. I mean, it wouldn 't make sense to start it at the end
or in the middle, now would it? It 's like if you turn the TV on right at the end of a mystery show and
you learn who the killer is. Well, you 're not going to wait around till that episode plays again to see
the beginning. You already know who the killer is, so it 's not a mystery anymore! No point at all.
Anyways, I 'll just start at the beginning, which just happens to be when I was out in the woods one
day, looking for something to eat. I spotted a few lousy rabbits and squirrels, but I just didn 't feel
like chasing them. You have to feel like chasing something to chase it, and I just didn 't feel like it. I
really didn 't. I was really hungry though. My stomach was growlin' and all. It was about that time
that I caught a whiff of something in the air. Something like cinnamon. I followed it, using my
incredible sense of smell and all, until I came upon a girl wearing a red cloak, walking on a path
through the woods. She had stopped and was picking the small green flowers on the side of the path.
Sitting besides her was a basket that was practically overflowing with marvelous smells. My
stomach growled again. I patted down my grey fur and smelled my breath by breathing into my paw
and sniffing. I tied up the side flaps on my red hunting hat that had holes cut in it for my ears to
poke through. After picking a few more leaves from my fur, I deemed myself worthy to

From 1882–1885 she was a teacher in South Dakota. She married Almanzo Wilder in 1885. In 1932, she published Little House in the Big Woods, the first of her "Little House" books. Wilder finished the last book in 1943. On February 10, 1957, she died at age 90, on her farm in Mansfield, Missouri. Early Life Laura Ingalls Wilder was born on February 7, 1867, to Charles and Caroline Ingalls in their log cabin just outside of Pepin, Wisconsin. In her books, Wilder would later come to call the cabin "The Little House in the Big Woods." Two years after her birth, in 1869, her family moved to Kansas, which would become the setting for her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During her time teaching at Bouchie School, her parents often sent a family friend named Almanzo Wilder to pick her up and bring her home for weekend visits. Marriage and Children Over the course of their wagon rides home, Laura and Almanzo fell in love. On August 25, 1885, the two were married at a congregational church in South Dakota. Afterward, Laura quit teaching to raise children and help Almanzo work the farm. In the winter of 1886, Laura gave birth to a daughter, Rose. In August of 1889 she had a son who tragically died within a month of his birth. Not long after, Almanzo contracted diphtheria and was partially paralyzed. To make matters worse, in 1890, the Wilders ' home burned to the ground. After four years of drifting from place to place, in 1894 the Wilders bought a 200–acre farm in the Ozarks of Mansfield, Missouri. On Rocky Ridge Farm, as they came to call it, the Wilders built a farmhouse, raised livestock and did all their own farm work. The 'Little House ' Series In the 1910s Wilder 's daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, by then grown up and a reporter for the San Francisco Bulletin, encouraged her mother to write about her childhood. In the 1920s, Wilder 's first attempt at writing an autobiography, called Pioneer Girl, was uniformly rejected by publishers. • 5. The Great Fire of 1871 Essay example Today I'll talk about a horrible disaster that happened one night in 1871. It started out a peaceful night with the wind blowing harder than usual. Almost everyone was asleep because of their normal busy lives that they thought they would be doing in the morning. The Beginning October 8, 1871: It was a dry, dry Sunday night. Dan Sullivan went on a walk to visit some neighbors, but when he got to the neighborhood he saw flames rolling out of the O'Leary's barn. He took action and immediately started to yell, "FIRE!" to wake up his friends and neighbors. Dennis Rogan had heard Mr. Sullivan and quickly ran to the O'Leary's house. He tried knocking on the door, but then he busted down the door and started yelling for the O'Leary's to wake up. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The firefighter's barricade of water and firefighting was not enough. The fire was scorching hot. You could get burned by standing by it. The firefighters had an idea of one firefighter holding a door in between a firefighter and the fire while he sprayed it. This plan worked well until the door burst into flames. Soon the little barricade of fire trucks and firefighters was broken and they were forced back. A Call for Help That Never Got Heard When the chief saw that his men were being pushed back he sent a young firefighter rushing to Goll's Drugstore to send in an alarm for reinforcements. When the firefighter got there Goll was gone so he broke the glass that guarded the alarm box and pushed the button down. Unfortunately, he forgot to push it down a second time telling the office that it was a message for reinforcements. Instead the alarm office at the courthouse thought it was another person turning in the exact same fire. So they never sent in extra trucks. It wasn't until the watchman from different station saw that the fire and the extra trucks were sent. By then it was too late the flames were now too big for any of the trucks to handle. The fire soon grew bigger and bigger. Then it started to move to the west side of Chicago. At first people thought it would be no big deal. But soon they saw it advance to their homes with big orange and crimson flames. Hundreds of people rushed to flee ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Short Story : ' The Fear Of Noise ' Acousticophobia, The fear of noise. Bethany a sophomore in college lived 80 miles away from her parents in a town called Little Ivy Wood. Little Ivy Wood was a small town which was dark and quiet. In fact was so dark that a single light would light up the rest of the town. Little Ivy Wood was my residence and I liked it the way it is, dark, quite, small and it was perfect for my occupation. Going back to Bethany, she was a young lady who had something special that everyone knew about. Gold locket. Clearly it was passed from generations down in her family it was known to be magical. Also, I forgot she had the fear of noise, like a scream, ringtones, and doorbells. Unpredictably one day the doorbell rang at Bethany 's house. As expected, she screamed and the person outside knew there was someone in the house. Also Bethany had always wanted her parents to be with her, but she had no choice but to stay alone. As she was going to open the door a small piece of paper came through the front door. On top of that the note read, "Feeling lonely, Don't worry, I'm here for you." As a result, Bethany was terrified and couldn't see how the person would know what was going on in her mind. In hesitation, she decided to call her parents to see if they were home and would visit her. Since her parents didn't pick up she called her neighbor, Brook. She was tall, slender girl who loved to play soccer and couple months she was a witness in a kidnapping case. Tragically, Brook's parents died in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was sitting in my house with nothing to do. I went outside to see what I could do. After a little hiking in the woods, playing with my baby sisters, and riding my Polaris razor, I seemed to be getting bored again. I went back inside, and I went into my sister's room to get my bb gun out of her closet. When I looked up I saw a little opening in the roof. I went up there to see if I could find anything cool. • 11. Moral Lessons for Children Depicted in Three Versions of... Fairy tales read to young children not only served as a form of entertainment for the child, but they also taught children the difference between what is good and what is bad. The Three Little Pigs is a prime example of the morals and lessons that children were taught while reading a fairy tale. The fact that the tale is equipped with adventure and the ability for animals to talk causes children to immerse in the text while acknowledging the consequences of laziness of the first two little pigs and the result of evil for the sneakiness of the big bad wolf. The tale does however teach children the benefits of hard–work when at the end the third pig lives happily ever after in his sturdy house made of bricks. Comparing three different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tales today have much more pleasant ending and children most likely will not be as frightened but instead learn the moral lessons that the tale is trying to portray through its vivid illustrations and excessive amount of repetition. The first version of the Three Little Pigs that I analyzed was by Paul Gadon and it closely mimicked the original version of the tale. When reading the tale I was baffled by some of the events that took place. Growing up my mother made sure that I did not read any material that she felt would give me nightmares or would give me a negative way of thinking. Because I was forced to read the revised version I never knew the truth behind the tale until just recently. In Gadon's version the first two little pigs surprisingly get eaten by the big bad wolf. Witnessing the two pigs get eaten by the wolf was very tragic and without a doubt left me in shock. This version of the tale shows children that the consequences of "lazy work" results in terrible consequences. Were the houses falling down not enough? Why did they have to get eaten? Does this brutal act change the thinking of Children? Because it is scientifically proven that children often repeat what they here or act out what they see I must agree with Mrs. Trimmer that the original version of many fairy tales may have a negative effect on children. At a young age most children do not understand the difference between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Narrative Style of Little House on The Prairie Narrative Style of Little House on The Prairie When you first start reading Little House on the Prairie you notice it is told through the eyes of a little girl named Laura. Her point of view is very realistic and captivating. She pays very close attention to the details of the day to day living and the events that are happening around her. She also notices how the prairie looks and what the weather is like each day. With her descriptions you can picture everything in your mind clearly, and you feel like you are right there next to Laura living her life. When Laura is describing something she appeals to our senses by informing you how something smells, feels, sounds, or tastes. She describes how Ma makes their food and what ... While Pet and Patty were rolling, Pa pulled all the grass from a large, round space of ground. When the space was clear of grass, Pa laid a handful of dry grass in its center. From the creek bottoms he brought an armful of twigs and dead wood. He laid small twigs and larger twigs and then the wood on the handful of dry grass, and he lighted the grass. Then Pa brought water from the creek, while Mary and Laura helped Ma get supper" (28, 29). Another part of the story that Laura describes very deeply was when Pa built the log cabin, chimney, and the well digging. You knew every step and how he did it and what he used to make everything. If a person wanted to, they could probably build a log cabin or dig a well by her descriptions. Laura enjoys describing the way the prairie looks each day because she loves it so much. She pays close attention to the details of the flowers and grasses and how the wind is blowing. The animals on the prairie are described often also since the prairie was full of wildlife back then. You often found her describing the weather too. She found the weather on the prairie very interesting and quite different than the weather in Wisconsin. "Day after day was hotter then the day before. The wind was hot. The grass was turning yellow. The whole world was rippling green and gold under the blazing sky. At noon the wind died. No birds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Goldilocks And Red Riding Hood Comparative Essay The story of Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks are very different but similar in some ways. The story of Goldilocks has to do with a little girl breaking into a family of bears' house, while Little Red Riding Hood centers on a little girl going to her grandmother's house to later discover there is a wolf impersonating as her grandma. However, the girls' decisions are the reason the stories are even famous. Goldilocks and Red Riding Hood made different decisions that affected the plot of both stories. If Little Red Riding Hood had never gone to her grandmother's house, she would never have known there was a wolf in disguise. The same concept applies to Goldilocks. If she had never wandered into the bears' home or if she had completed her crimes quicker, the story would be completely different. Red Riding Hood's decisions are cautious and thoughtful, unlike those of Goldilocks. She was being generous by giving her grandmother some fresh cakes that she made while Goldilocks broke into a home, ate their food, and broke their furniture. Goldilocks ventures into the woods without her parent's permission while Red Riding Hood's parents knew her whereabouts. Goldilocks simply doesn't care about how others feel, and she makes herself the first priority over everything and everyone else. Both of the children made brave decisions. They both decide ... • 23. What Is The Role Of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Early Childhood The role of a pioneer women usually involved cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children. The school houses were really far apart from where most people lived because everything was so spread out, so most of the kids in the pioneer days were taught at home by the women in the house, or they went to the school houses by wagon or they had to walk depending on how close it was. Some of the women worked as partners with the pioneer men with establishing homes. There have been many different interpretations written of the story. The little girl is the main character in each of the stories. She is recognized as the prettiest, most lovable girl in the village. She is known as Little Red Riding Hood in Perrault's version. On the other hand, she is referred to as Little Red Cap in Grimm's version. She acquired her name because of always wearing her little red hood/cap all the time. The person who loved and adored her most of all was her grandmother. Grandmother lived deep in the woods in another village in both stories. Wilder was the author of The Little House series the second book in the series is about her husband's experiences growing up on a farm in New York. The third book is about the time Wilder spent on the American Prairie. In these books, Wilder uses imagery, symbolism, and language from when she was growing up. One of the most common elements is Wilder's writing is imagery. She uses beautiful compilations of words to paint a picture in the minds of readers. An example of this is, "In a perfect circle the sky curved down to the level land and the wagon was in the circle's exact middle," (13). This is a description of how it looked when Wilder was traveling on the American Prairie. This quote could make you feel two different things, freedom and loneliness. At this point in time, Wilder and her family were probably feeling a mix of both. Later in the book, Wilder provides another example, Everything was striped there. Stripes of sunshine came through the cracks in the west wall, and stripes of shadow came down from the poles overhead. The stripes of shade and sunshine were all across Laura's bare feet. And through the cracks between the logs she could see stripes of prairie. The sweet smell of the prairie mixed with the sweet smell of cut wood. This particular piece of imagery describes how it looked when Pa first finished ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Comparing Goldilocks And Little Red Riding Hood Have you ever put much thought into the decisions of the fairy tale characters that you grew up hearing about about? Have you ever stopped to consider that maybe their actions and decisions resemble each other? Goldilocks and the three bears is a classic fairy tale that most children grow up hearing, Goldilocks made plenty of decisions; she decided to go into the forest, she decided to enter a house, she discovered, she decided to eat porridge, to sit in a chair, and to doze off in a bed that she found. Goldilocks made a lot of decisions, she wasn't the only one though. Little Red Riding Hood is another fairy tale that we all know. Little Red made numerous decisions herself, she decided to bring her ill Granny some soup in hopes of making her feel better. Little Red decided to go into the woods alone, she decided to proceed fearlessly into the woods, even though there may be a malicious wolf lurking in the trees. Goldilocks and Little Red both made decisions, those decisions were similar, in that both of their decisions involved the girls going into the woods unaccompanied, going into a house and more. However, they had made different decisions as well, and the reasons behind their decisions were very different. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 71. Gender Roles in Children’s Books: An Examination of... People use several different classification systems to help organize a complex society. For example, scientists use a system composed of hierarchies in order to place animals in their proper kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species. By creating this classification system, people of society are better able to understand the relationships that these animals have with each other. Just as scientists use this hierarchy to organize animals, people use the concept of gender to classify their own kind. However, many people fail to realize that gender, unlike the system of hierarchies used by scientists to classify animals, is not biologically based. While sex is a biological concept, gender can be defined as the sociological, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From birth, baby boys are dressed in blue and baby girls are dressed in pink and are sometimes characterized by pierced ears. Once gender roles are assigned, people treat one another accordingly. Boys are taught to be competitive and are trained to use teamwork, whereas girls are treated more delicately because society expects them to be nurturing. From birth on, then, girls and boys are taught by society what it means to be feminine and masculine, respectively. Another sociologist, Michael Messner, illustrates how society "does gender" by discussing the elective affinity between masculinity and sports through his piece entitled, "Boyhood, Organized Sports, and the Construction of Masculinities" (Messner, 1990). In this article Messner claims that sports teach people to devalue femininity, which is evident through negative expressions coined by society such as "You throw like a girl." Because playing sports teaches aggression and teamwork, the world of sports is an institution that is built around masculinity. Even when women play sports, they are masculinized. Due to the idea that gender roles are assigned at birth, it would be interesting to explore how children's book authors promote masculinity and femininity through the messages conveyed in their storytelling. Two books from different time periods, Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House in the Big Woods and J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, will be examined. Lorber would argue that in ... • 73. I Should Start My Story At The End Of A Mystery suppose I should start my story at the beginning. I mean, it wouldn 't make sense to start it at the end or in the middle, now would it? It 's like if you turn the TV on right at the end of a mystery show and you learn who the killer is. Well, you 're not going to wait around till that episode plays again to see the beginning. You already know who the killer is, so it 's not a mystery anymore! No point at all. Anyways, I 'll just start at the beginning, which just happens to be when I was out in the woods one day, looking for something to eat. I spotted a few lousy rabbits and squirrels, but I just didn 't feel like chasing them. You have to feel like chasing something to chase it, and I just didn 't feel like it. I really didn 't. I was really hungry though. My stomach was growlin' and all. It was about that time that I caught a whiff of something in the air. Something like cinnamon. I followed it, using my incredible sense of smell and all, until I came upon a girl wearing a red cloak, walking on a path through the woods. She had stopped and was picking the small green flowers on the side of the path. Sitting besides her was a basket that was practically overflowing with marvelous smells. My stomach growled again. I patted down my grey fur and smelled my breath by breathing into my paw and sniffing. I tied up the side flaps on my red hunting hat that had holes cut in it for my ears to poke through. After picking a few more leaves from my fur, I deemed myself worthy to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
