Question 2
How does your media productrepresentparticular social groups?
I believe that our film represents three social groups: whiteBritish, male and
teenagers. We chosethese social groups for separatereasons, the white
British becausea lot of action movies feature British people as the villains as
people believe that it makes them sound smarter than the usualAmerican
hero. We used a male character as we wanted to changethe belief that all
men in movies are braveand courageous by making him run scared at the
thought of a man coming to kill him. People would normally expect the male
hero to find the assassin firstand kill him. We wanted to turn this around and
make people think differently about our supposed main character. We also
had the characters as teenagers as this is again against the normal conventions
of an action movie. People would expect adults to be the leads in action
movies as realistically teenagers wouldn’thave any training in fighting and
warfareso why would they be the lead in a movie.
I don’t believe that our film had any stereotypes in it. As I have said before I do
believe that we changed the stereotypical view that all men are braveand
courageous butthat is all we changed in my opinion. I don’tthink that we
portrayed any particular socialgroups as negative or positive, just different
fromwhat you would normally expect.
