Presentation by Andreas Schleicher Tackling the School Absenteeism Crisis 30 ...
Mirphy Pitch
1. Our Final Idea – Distance
They are pen pals, the days that they know keep going
up as they talk – montage of them emailing. Then her
getting ready to leave for London as she's going to
meet him for the first time. Final shot is her in london,
and them meeting for the first time.
2. Key Conventions
Our genre is Romance, the key conventions we are
going to include are:
● Main Character introduced
● Revolves around everyday situations
● 'Boy meets Girl'
3. Our opening sequence will introduce the character and
the narrative – both introduced subtly.
Some of the narrative is introduced but not all of it.
Mainly the character (Jess) is introduced in the opening
sequence
4. The Characters
Jess – She's unconventional character. She is a little
geeky in the way she dresses but doesn't have the
personality of a geek
Ryan - Not properly introduced but his character is
established through the way he dresses. He's up to
date with fashion
5. Camera
● Close up on fingers while she is typing
● Mid-shot circling her as she is on the computer –
emphasising how long she's been speaking to him
(establishes narrative)
● Low angle shot when she is in London – to represent
her being in awe of her surroundings
● Close up/circling her when she is in London – also
showing her in awe
6. Editing
● The numbers in the bottom left counting how many
days they've been speaking – establishes the
narrative and represents the length of time
● Train comes in and wipes away the title
● Shot- reverse – shot when they meet to establish the
two characters
7. Mise - en - Scene
● Ryan’s clothes up to date, e.g jeans and a polo. This
represents he is a stereotypical teenager who cares
about his appearance
● Jess' clothes are more out of date and cover up her
body. She's insecure but also secure. She's insecure
in her body because she isn't a stereotypical girl who
flaunts her body however she's secure with who she
is.
8. Sound
● Up beat music, fades when shot hits the boy – this
establishes that he is the love interest – it creates the
idea that this is an important moment within the film
9. Audience
The film is mostly aimed at females.
Even though the majority of the audience wanted a
male lead, we believed that the lead should be female
so the audience can relate to her. But we do have a
male supporting role for the female audience so there
is some 'eye candy'
The film is aimed at teens to young adults as the
narrative focuses on something thats more modern
day and has a teen playing the main role.
10. Unique Selling Point
● Despite the film having some 'cheesy' aspects, the
film has a unique narrative. It's a modern day film
which teens and young adults can relate to. There
are counter typical characters as well as
stereotypical, this challenges real life people which
makes it easier to relate to as its not your average
popular boy likes geeky girl.
