6. What would you like to see in a new
action film?
PAJ Production chose this question to broaden our horizons in the choices we ae going to make. E had to make sure we did
exactly what was the purpose of Audience Research: ask our audience what they want! And so by using this open
ended question we allowed different and wide results by people.
Examples of Responses:
“Good character stories” – By this we then had to look into our character profiles, and their backgrounds and how we could
elaborate them to appeal to our audience. We needed to ensure that each character we had to show in our 2 minutes
portrayed everything we chose and to pin point their characteristics clearly and visibly so that e got the right and expected
response from our audience. Our characters stories went on to be slight deprivation or struggling, to relate to everyone that has
struggled who find it easier to sympathise. Negative is much easier than positive, PAJ Productions found out, and so we went
along with the negative and gritty theme in our action filled 2 minutes of ThreeSeven. One of our characters could have been in
juvenile prison and another could have lost it all at a young age. Lost their opportunities or possibilities in going in the right path
they were capable of in the path. Both leaving school in 16 maybe, at an early age, missing the crucial parts in their life where
they could build their lives further. Creating, then, an empty space in their lives that can be empathised or sympathised with!
“”A good ripping plot twist” – Which we planned to then input the twist of putting the end of ThreeSeven at the start to lure our
audience in. Our end being a symbolic ending in life (at the start)helps create a cliff-hanger that was also discussed in action film
conventions.
More responses mentioned guns, that we are sure to involve in our film of ThreeSeven, to add unpredictability and mystery
and nearly all conventions of an action film!

3. 7. What do you think is key to a successful
action film?
7. What do you think is key to a successful
action film?
After asking what our audience might like in their ideal action movie, we then thought of asking what they would
expect; for reassurance.
One clear crucial response was “Everything going together matching” which links to match-on-action and fluidity
throughout the film. This also links to the consistency of our chosen grittiness in scenes and characters. If we are
to choose a sad theme throughout ,and a dangerous mysterious theme throughout, then we have to consider
how we can keep it consistent within ThreeSeven. Then linking this to mise-en-scene, and mainly costumes to
keep characters mysterious: hiding their emotions at first to reveal them at a certain point. Then building up the
atmosphere and making mini climaxing for our audience to look forward to, so they don’t get bored!
“Baddies” is mentioned a lot through all questionnaires in not only this questions. Every stereotypical and traditional
action movie has baddies. By keeping to tradition we stray from uniqueness, which we need, to then
consistency of marketing. We have considered the actual linking of other films by brainstorming things and
conventions we could steal and sometimes put our own personal spin on it. This is what we thought all action
films did within marketing, some being more unique than other. By making ours British based also helps, because
there are less British based films out there in market at the moment!
We discussed a gang of baddies, which is relatively different from the ‘just one baddy’. But then fluently choosing to
have one main baddie against out ‘victim’. We had to make sure we got the goodie and the baddy across, to
help explain the whole plot. So in the first 2 minutes we only involved the two that would be seen at the end, so
then the audience can build up the story as they go along, if they were to watch the whole of ThreeSeven.

in the action genre?
8.Who are your favourite actors/actresses
in the action genre?
By asking this question we are enabling our production group to find out the different
values of each actor or actress, t then see if we can input that into our actors.
Jennifer Lawrence was a main actress that seemed to be admired by our audience
research. Although she is female she is seen handling guns, fighting and being
mysteriously ‘cool’ and skilled within the action films that she plays in. She has played in
X-MEN, Avengers (both big actin movies). Where she was specialised in weaponry,
fighting and being a mysterious, not so known character. Again, she is female which
differs from our cast, however we chose to make the mysterious links through costume
and throughout the film. And thus showing how a character makes a film what it is.
