Through audience research, we found that our main target audience would be
aimed towards males (demographic E) because of the fighting and scenes of
violence that would be within our trailer.This influenced our decision to cast
our protagonist role to a male because it would be relatable for the
stereotypical male view of the main character being a ‘strong, brave, heroic
man’. However, we also noticed that the sci-fi sub-genre of the technical side to
our film concept would appeal towards the demographic B, which is known to
be predominantly female. Our survey also highlighted that females took an
interest in the ‘global populations’ themes of our film concept too, which led us
to make the decision to cast the rest of our important characters as intellectual
females in order to appeal to this market too.As this demographic consists of
intellectuals, we decided to subvert from the stereotypical view of our female
characters being ‘dumb’ and a ‘damsel in distress’, and instead make them our
lead scientists in the storyline. Additionally, from this feedback we knew that
we would ensure our trailer not only featured blood, gore and violence , but
also featured scientific, medical and diseased aspects to it too.This would
ensure that we appeal both sides of the market we are targeting towards.

The feedback for our storyboard was also
very helpful in shaping our production into
the final product it is now.This audience
feedback helped us to make decisions on
adding a lot more scenes featuring our
protagonist Dr Mason Cooper because
they felt that we needed to make it more
clear to the audience who our main
character really is.We added a lot of shots
of Mason Cooper in distress after the vlog
scene and also violent scenes of him
directly attacking a zombie.We further
took the respondents’ advice on featuring
survivor shots in the middle of our trailer in
the wilderness and also a suspense shot of
Mason Cooper to create a sense of shock
of what happened to the protagonist near
the ending.
