1. Unit 13 and 14 – Planning and Producing a Print Media Product – Photo-shoot Plan
Project title: Music Magazine
Project:
In comparison to my first magazine, I decided to go for this magazine brand name,
because, my second magazine is based on a ‘Rock’ genre and the content would be
aimed towards the male gender of the public. With the ideal font style of ‘The
Blacklist’ the connotations of this font style is to attract the male public to the
magazine; however, my second magazine is not a presentation of stereotypes, as
such this magazine being aimed to the male public, the connotations of the masthead
is a presentation of the musical industry.
Project Description:
What is Unit 13 all about
My project of Unit 13 will relate to; ‘Planning and Pitching a Print based Media
Product’ for my two chosen magazine genres: hip-hop and rock. I will create a front
cover an double page spread, for two magazines and then present them to a client.
As of producing a magazine front cover and a magazine double page, I will be able to
understand the production process of creating a magazine, as well as understanding
the organisation and layout of the front cover and the dps. By producing a second
magazine, I will also be able to understand a comparison between my first and
second magazine, this is due to the presentation of the different feature; for example,
pull quote and strapline.
Photographer: Myself
Who is it going to be?
Similar to my first magazine, I will be producing my own magazine I have decided
that i will me taking my own magazine photos, as this will allow me the advantage as
to what the outcome of the final images will look like through the camera lens, as of
the adjusting the sharpness, lighting and position my model.
Technical Codes -
My second magazine will consist of the main shot type an eye-level, as this would
allow me to take a photo of the full image, by presenting the appearance of the
model; as such: where he is facing and what he is wearing. The helpfulness of using
an eye-level shot type, the magazine will be able to achieve an intimidating
appearance as well as catch the eye of the reader.
Lighting -
The type of lighting I would use would be natural lighting, as this will allow me to edit/
enhance the quality of the image through Photoshop. I have chosen the use of
natural lighting because, I will be able to understand what I should change in
photoshop, as well as edit. Also, the usefulness of natural lighting will allow me to see
the natural colours of the clothing; tones and shadows.
2. Unit 13 and 14 – Planning and Producing a Print Media Product – Photo-shoot Plan
Post Production -
By the use of photoshop, I will be able to achieve the improvements of lighting and
sharpness.
Reference images and ideas: ‘Fit for Purpose’
With my magazines of inspiration, I wanted to achieve the effectiveness of the
magazine that I will be producing. With these images, I want my magazine to relate to
the music theme and also present where I got inspired. For my magazine to “fit the
purpose” my images would consist of one model with the involvement of different shot
types and angles. Furthermore, my image ideas of the different perspective view
(angle/poses) were also inspired by ‘RESPECT’ in which I want to portray through my
magazine
Casting:
The image above is what I am aiming for in the presentation of my second magazine,
as well as the understanding of how this would portray my inspirational magazine
Model requirements:
Model: Theo Barrett
From my magazine of inspiration, I decided to have my friend Theo model for my
magazine. With his height of 5’11 would have been a decent height for my front cover
and my dps as of the different angles I could experiment with as well as

experimenting with a range of different shots. As my first magazine would be a
resemblance of the bright and vibrant colours that would amplify my magazine front
cover along with the masthead. I decided to have a male model; however, not try to
stereotype or produce any reference of representing the ‘Female Gaze’ - Diana Saco;
because, my context; for example an interview or competition of male products.

4. Unit 13 and 14 – Planning and Producing a Print Media Product – Photo-shoot Plan
● Why these items?
● Source of inspiration?
As this magazine is the basis of the ‘Rock’ genre, my magazine would have the
simplistic appearance of using dark colours, as this would enhance the quality of the
masthead. Also the colours of ‘grey’ and ‘dark blue’ would also amplify the features
on the magazine front cover, as well as the double page spread. As the theme of my
second magazine would be white and black, key features; for example, the masthead
and strapline, the magazine would portray its unique sense of the male musical
industry.
