1. Unit 13 and 14 – Planning and Producing a Print Media Product – Photo-shoot Plan
Project title: Music Magazine
Project:
The connotations of the involvement of this font style and title for my first magazine suggests
that, the masthead would interest the public eye on the background of the music industry, as
of my magazine in which the information would relate mainly to my main genre of hip-hop
and pop; therefore through the usefulness of the website: Dafont, I will be able to achieve
the interest of the public; in relation to other music magazines, due to the bold lettering. I
would to extend the acknowledgement of the music industry by anchoring the public in with
interesting and eye-catching features, and this would anchor in the public of my chosen
target audience between roughly the ages; 16 to 22 to my magazine of hip-hop. The
magazine would relate to the theorists of ‘Katz’: Personal Identification, ‘Maslow’: Social
Climbers and ‘Hartley’: Age, Class, Gender, Ethnicity and Nationality; therefore this would
connote the interest of the public as of the music industry is aimed to the wide public of the
young generation.
Project Description
What is Unit 13 all about
My project of Unit 13 will relate to; ‘Planning and Pitching a Print based Media Product’ for my
two chosen magazine genres: hip-hop and rock. I will create a front cover an double page
spread, for two magazines and then present them to a client.
With the production of creating a music that consists of a front cover and double page spread, I
will be able to achieve the interest of the public as of the connotations of key features,
contained within the magazine for example, the masthead and strapline/ main headline.
Therefore, I will achieve the aspect of anchoring the public to the magazine. As of the front
cover, the use of bright and vibrant colours and bold text, the public within my target age range
will be attracted to the magazine by its unique presentation and layout, that would make my
magazine stand out from all the others.

Photographer: Patrice Insua
Who is it going to be?
As I will be creating my own magazine, I decided that I would take my own photos because,
this will allow me to plan and see the outcome of the images; through the quality of the
sharpness, angle of lighting and the positioning of the model within the shot. I wanted to take
a range of 15 photos for both my magazine that would consist of different shots, angles, props
and poses; therefore giving me a range of different images to use in my front cover and
double page. In addition, my shot types would consist of close ups and long shots at
eye-level.
Technical Codes
For my first magazine, my front cover would consist of a long shot at eye-level as this will
allow me to achieve the aspect of presenting to the audience the fullness of the main image,
by what my chosen model is wearing and what pose he is doing.
Lighting
By taking the photos in an area of good quality lighting, the photos will have a high quality
appearance as the lighting will bring out the details of the colour and facial features.
Post Production
By the use of photoshop, I will be able to achieve the improvements of lighting and sharpness.
Reference images and ideas: ‘Fit for Purpose’
With my magazines of inspiration, I wanted to achieve the effectiveness of the magazine that I
will be producing. With these images, I want my magazine to relate to the music theme and
also present where I got inspired. For my magazine to “fit the purpose” my images would
consist of one model with the involvement of different shot types and angles. Furthermore, my
image ideas of the different perspective view (angle/poses) were also inspired by ‘Billboard’ in
which I want to portray through my magazine
Casting
3. Unit 13 and 14 – Planning and Producing a Print Media Product – Photo-shoot Plan
The main reason as to why I took these images, was to portray that my first magazine would
have pop of colour that would make this magazine stand out from the others, as well as
portray the bold masthead and the layout of the magazine; for example: cover lines and pull
quote. These images would be suitable for my first magazine: ‘TeensRule’ is that because of
my inspiration, from ‘Billboard’ I want to portray how and why my magazine is presented like
this. For my first magazine, I decided to dress my model in popping colours that would bring
out the masthead, and for both my front cover and DPS I decided to keep the colour clothing
choice, but however change the angle of view and the poses my model is making.
The images above is a representation of what I am trying to portray when I produce my first
magazine, as of the different uses of shot types, angles and poses. The use of the red hoodie
connotes a chilled vibe that would relate well to my magazine, as well the props of
headphones that represent a musical interest.
Model requirements:
4. Unit 13 and 14 – Planning and Producing a Print Media Product – Photo-shoot Plan
Model: Theo Barrett
From my magazine of inspiration, I decided to have my friend Theo model for my magazine.
With his height of 5’11 would have been a decent height for my front cover and my dps as of
the different angles I could experiment with as well as experimenting with a range of different
shots. As my first magazine would be a resemblance of the bright and vibrant colours that
would amplify my magazine front cover along with the masthead. I decided to have a male
model; however, not try to stereotype or produce any reference of representing the ‘Female
Gaze’ - Diana Saco; because, my context; for example an interview or competition of male
products.
Wardrobe and Look:
Colour Scheme
● Why these items?
● Source of inspiration?
I wanted to go for the bright and complementary colours of blue and red as these colours
would enhance the quality of the masthead. I got my source of inspiration my searching
through the internet and observing the different colours that would enhance a key feature of
the front cover.
