First, let’s revise our compass directions …
4 Figure Grid References
Used in Ordnance Survey maps to
locate a position
Northings
They run from North to South
Eastings
They run from one West to East
Grid References
Joined together they form a grid
Co-ordinates
These help us identify the line by having a
number on them

position. Usually accurate to a 100
metres.

How do we get a 4 figure Grid Reference?
First we identify the square like we did before

Now we add the Northings

Now we add the Northings and Easting numbers

Next we read the Northing = 02
