1. Latitude and longitude are used to locate any point on Earth and are measured in degrees along the X (longitude) and Y (latitude) axes.
2. Latitude ranges from 90°N at the North Pole to 0° at the equator to 90°S at the South Pole, while longitude extends 180° west and 180° east from the Prime Meridian.
3. The intersection of the equator and Prime Meridian is the origin point (0,0) located off the coast of Africa.

A coordinate system is a reference system used to represent the locations of geographic features, imagery, and observations, within a common geographic framework.
Coordinate systems enable geographic datasets to use common locations for integration.
What is Universal Time (UTC)? Why is it for? How does UTC relate to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and Eastern Standard Time (EST)?
What is an Atomic clock? What is a leap-second? What is the Meridian and what is the International Date Line? Why are fractions of a second and UTC important in the 21st century?

Latitudes and longitudes and india size and locationRajesh Kumar
This presentation covers the following topics:
1. Geographic coordinate system, i.e, latitude and longitudes
2. Size and location of India
(because before understanding the size and location our country, Geographic coordinate system, i.e, latitude and longitudes are important)
which enables the students to locate all four hemispheres including
Northern Hemisphere
Southern Hemisphere
Eastern Hemisphere
Western Hemisphere
Students will be able to identify which line divides the earth into the correct hemispheres.
Students will be able to find locations on map using longitude and latitude.

Just as physicists create simplified models to better understand the real world, they use the tools of mathematics to analyze and understand their observations
Computer forensics once specialized is now mainstream due to our total dependence on data. Experts deal not only with computer related crime such as hacking, software piracy, and viruses but also with conventional crimes including fraud, embezzlement, organized crime and child pornography.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Longitude and Latitude
1. Understanding
Longitude
and
Latitude
1
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
2. Typical Graph
This is an example
of a typical graph
we are all familiar
with
The graph is made
up of different
“points” with lines
that connect
the points
2
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
3. Typical Graph Y axis
Each point has two
values:
The “X” value that
runs along the
horizontal “X” axis
The “Y” value that
runs along the
X axis
vertical “Y” axis
3
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
4. Y (3,8)
Typical Graph
(9,5)
X value is always
X
(0,0)
4
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
5. A point can also have
Typical Graph negative (-) values
Y Negative X values
(0,0) are to the left of the
(-X, origin (0,0)
+Y) (+X,+Y)
X Negative Y values are
(-X,-Y) (+X,-Y) below the origin
5
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
6. A point can also have
Typical Graph negative
Y (-) values
(-X,+Y) (+X,+Y)
Negative X values
are to the left
(0,0) of the origin (0,0)
(-X,-Y) (+X,-Y) X Negative Y values
are below the
origin
6
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
7. East West, North Let the X axis be the
South on The Equator.
Earth Let the Y axis be the Prime
Y Meridian that runs through
Geeenwich outside of
London.
X
Lat/Long are the 2 grid
points by which you can
locate any point on earth.
7
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
8. East West, North South on the Earth
N Let each of the
four quarters then
be designated by
W E North or South
and East or West.
S
8
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
9. East West, North South on the Earth
The N tells us we’re
(N, W) (N, E) north of the Equator. The
S tells us we’re south of
the Equator.
The E tells us that we’re
east of the Prime
Meridian. The W tells us
that we’re west of the
(S, W) (S, E) Prime Meridian.
9
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
10. East West, North South on the Earth
(N, W) That means all
points in North
America will have a
North latitude and a
West longitude
because it is North of
Prime Meridian the Equator and West
of the Prime Meridian.
10
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
11. East West, North South on the Earth
What would be
the latitude and
longitude
directions in
Australia?
Prime Meridian ?
If you said South and East , you’re right!
11
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
12. Latitude is the distance from
What is Latitude? the
equator along the Y axis.
90°N
Y
All points along the equator
have a value of 0 degrees
latitude.
X
North pole = 90°N
South pole = 90°S
Values are expressed in terms
90°S of degrees.
12
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
13. 90°N
Y What is Latitude?
Each degree of
latitude is divided into
X 60 minutes.
Each minute is
divided into 60 seconds.
90°S
This is also true of longitude.
13
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
14. What is Latitude?
90°N For Example:
Y
37°, 02’,51’’N
X
This is close to
the latitude
90°S where you live.
14
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
15. What is Longitude?
Longitude is the distance
Y
from the prime meridian along
the X axis.
All points along the prime
X
meridian have a
value of 0 degrees longitude.
The earth is divided into two
parts, or
hemispheres, of east and
180°W 180°E west longitude.
15
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
16. What is Longitude?
Y
The earth is divided into
360 equal slices
X (meridians)
180 west and 180 east
of the prime meridian
180°W 180°E
16
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
17. What is Latitude?
90°N Our latitude and
Y
longitude might be:
X 38.25° N
76.96° W
90°S
17
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
18. So Where is (0,0)?
The origin point (0,0)
is where the equator
intersects the
prime meridian.
(0,0) is off the western
coast of Africa in the
Atlantic Ocean.
18
Mr Thompson – Earth Science
