Passage of Food
Curricular Statement
In developing factual, conceptual, procedural and meta cognitive dimensions of
Knowledge, Process Skills, Attitudes, Appreciation about the alimentary canal and
passage of food through lecture cum demonstration method, multimedia approach
and evaluated by oral questioning, presenting the report of group discussion and
checking the science diary.
2. CONTENT ANALYSIS
Facts The digestive system is a group of organs working together to
convert food into energy and absorbed basic nutrients into the body.
Food passes through a long tube inside the body known as the
alimentary canal or gastro intestinal tract.
The alimentary canal is made up of oral cavity, pharynx, oesophagus,
stomach, small intestine and large intestine.
In addition to the alimentary canal, there are several accessory
organs and associated glands are present for helping the digestion of
food but do not allow food pass through them.
Accessory organs are teeth and tongue helps in chewing and mixing.
Associated glands are salivary glands, liver, gastric glands, gall
bladder, intestinal glands ad pancreas.
Salivary glands are 3 pairs which secrete saliva to mix the food.
Gastric glands secrete gastric juice for digestion.
Liver secretes bile and stored in gall bladder.
3. Pancreas secretes pancreatic juice for digestion of the enzyme.
Intestinal glands secrete intestinal juice for the digestion.
The ducts from gall bladder and pancreas will opens out the
duodenum region.
The passage of food is a chain process, which starts in mouth and
ends in anus.
Mouth is the starting point of digestion.
Oral cavity consists of teeth, tongue and salivary glands which help
in chewing ad mixing.
Once swallowed, the food moves into the oesophagus and reached
into the stomach.
The stomach has both storage and digestive function.
The chyme from stomach then reach the small intestine through the
duodenum and finally reach the large intestine.
From the large intestine the waste materials will be eliminated
through anus.

5. CLASSROOM INTERACTION PROCEDURE PUPIL’S RESPONSE
Introduction
Teacher: Today we are going to tour. Are you ready?
Ok. Before that do you like food?
Do you know where these food items gone?
Do you know all the parts inside your body that is responsible for the
digestion of the food items?
Ok. For familiarising the regions responsible for the digestion of food
items. We can go for a tour that region called ‘Alimentatory canal(BB)’
Assume we all are different types of food items. Now we are doing for
start the journey. Are you ready?
Yes
Yes
Yes, stomach
No
Yes, we are ready
Day1
From the plate we are carried into the mouth. When we reached the
front of mouth automatically our lips opens and there we can see a
large cavity.
Look what a beauty?
Teacher shows the chart of digestive system
6. What do see here?
Ok. Inside the mouth there are teeth. Beware they crush you.
The river saliva which is originated from salivary glands.
There is a soft flexible island called tongue. They provide taste to you.
Then we can goes to next place. The journey is through special route
called oesophagus. The movement occurs here is peristalsis.
Finally reached the new place called stomach. Today we are tired. So
we take rest. Stomach is the best place us to take rest.
Teeth, tongue, saliva
Day 2
Today we continue our journey.
In the stomach you can see many gastric glands. They help you to
digest proteins. Then we can go to the U shape place called duodenum.
Here some pancreatic juice and bile will join with us. Then reach a
highly coiled tube, called small intestine. With bile and pancreatic juice,
from small intestine here is intestinal glands which produce intestinal
juice. These totally digest us. Ok
Then we are going to the large intestine. Here the water contents are
absorbed. Finally our trip is going to an end. Through anus we reached
out of the alimentary canal.
7. Thus our two day trip end
