INNOVATIVE WORK 
Introduction 
Innovation is defined as “the process of making 
changes to something established by introducing 
“something new”. Innovative work help a teacher to 
teach a lesson easily. The role of innovative work is very 
important in English language teaching. In order to teach 
a lesson innovatively, the teacher must use a lot of 
pictures games and songs. In teaching learning process 
the role of innovative work is very important. It makes 
the class very important. It makes the class interesting. 
Innovative work is one of the effective method for 
teaching difficult lesson easily. So in English language 
education the role of innovative work is very helpful, 
useful and effective 
The present innovative work is an attempt to make a 
textbook by dramatizing the events in the lesson “when 
wishes come true” by Rabindranath Tagore. This lesson 
is meant for the eighth standard students including in 
English course book. This lesson belongs to unit I
WHEN WISHES COME TRUE 
Main characters 
Subal 
Sushil 
Goddess 
(that morning, father starts scolding his son, sushil) 
Subal : Sushil do not do like that…. 
If I come there, I will beat you. 
Sushil : Father, I didn’t do anything, those people 
are telling lies. 
(this is always happening in this house, Next day. That 
was Saturday, school would be over by two in the 
afternoon) 
Sushil : Oh! I didn’t want to go to school today, 
today is geography test… No, No I didn’t 
go to school. 
(then jumped into bed. Suddenly subal came to the 
stage. He was surprised.)
Subal: : Sushil… why are you still in bed? 
Aren’t you going to school? 
Sushil : (says in low voice) Father, I’ve a terrible 
Stomachache. I can’t go to school today. 
Subal : I had brought some lozenges for you, but 
You have stomach ache. So you had 
better not have them 
(Subal go out of the room and prepared a brew for sushil. 
After sometime he entered with a bowl of a really bitter 
brew) 
Sushil : (looks at the brew) I’m fine now, my 
stomachache has gone, I’m going to 
School. 
Subal : You are not going out anywhere today. 
Drink this and lie down here quietly and 
take rest of the day. 
(Subal forced the brew to the sushil’s throat and locked 
the door and go out)
Sushil : (Crying) if I could be as old as my father I 
Would be able to do whatever I want. 
(at the same time subal sat outside and think) 
Subal : When I was young, my parents loved 
me very much. I couldn’t study as much 
as I ought to have done. If I could be 
young once again, I wouldn’t waste my 
time. 
(Suddenly a goddess appeared in front of sushil. Sushil 
cried aloud, father opened the door) 
Sushil : Father… goddess… 
Subal : where is the goddess? 
(Goddess appeared in front of them) 
Sushil : Look… Look there 
Subal : Oh… Goddess 
Goddess : what you want? 
Subal : I want to regain my childhood/
Sushil : I want to be as old as my father. 
Goddess : Ok, I can understand your feeling, 
tomorrow morning you will be change 
yourself. 
Subal : what…what you mean? 
Goddess : yes tomorrow you (Subal)will be as 
young as your son. And you(Sushil) will 
be old as your father. 
(Both of them became happy. Next morning, they found 
changes happened on them) 
old sushil : Now I became old as my father, I can 
do whatever I want. 
old subal : oh… thank god, I got my young age 
once again. 
(sushil move towards mirror and look at himself) 
old sushil : what is this, where is my hair? 
Now, I can spend my entire time
climbing trees, swimming in the pond, 
eating raw mangoes, looking for birds 
nests. 
(Then sushil ran out of the house and try to climb on 
olive tree. But he can’t climb it. After that he hung on 
the lower branches suddenly that broke into two) 
Old sushil : Ayoo… 
(Neighbours saw that incident) 
A Neighbour : Hey… old man Are you mad? (laughing) 
(at the same time) 
Subal : oh… I want to go school… 
(Sushil entered the house) 
Sushil : Father aren’t you going to school? 
Subal : (Scratched his head) I… I can’t 
I’ve stomachache. 
Sushil :What…stomachache, don’t try to fool 
me, once I’ve get similar stomachache to
avoid going to school. Today, you must 
go to school. 
(Subal, get ready to go to school.) 
(in the evening, old subal returned back home from 
school, it was time for sushil to wear his glasses and read 
the Ramayana aloud. Subal do their sums) 
Old Subal : oh… how complicated problems are 
these? 
(Next day, subal going to school on the way back he 
would go and join a gathering of old people) 
Old Subal : Oh! which topic are you discussing 
about? 
Old people : what are you doing here? 
go…go to school. 
(Subal reached the school and there he saw the teacher) 
Old Subal : (to teacher) Excuse me sir, can you give 
a cigarette to me? 
Teacher : (angrily) what… you know about
cigarette. Today you stand outside the 
class on one leg. 
(Evening, when subal reached home, sushil know the 
things happened in the school) 
Old Sushil : Stop there… 
what happened on school? These kind of 
manners, they are teaching you in school 
these days? 
(Sushil go inside the house) 
old Subal : oh… I want to regain my lost age. I 
want my freedom. 
(At the same time) 
Old Sushil : Oh God… I understood what a foolish 
was mine. I want to enjoy my childhood 
Please bring back my childhood. 
(Goddess appeared in front of them) 
Goddess : Sushil, what happened? Are you
satisfied with these changes? 
(Suddenly subal entered the stage) 
Subal : Goddess… Please bring back my 
childhood. 
Goddess : well, tomorrow morning, when you 
wake up that changes will happened on 
you. 
(Goddess disappeared, next day subal woke up as old 
man and sushil found himself young) 
Subal : Sushil, why aren’t you studying your 
grammar aloud? 
Sushil : Father, I lost my book.
CONCLUSION 
Innovative work help the teacher to teach 
something effectively. Here we can increase the interest 
of the pupils. And also can avoid rote learning by this 
interesting method. This type of innovative methods and 
creativity techniques has an important role in English 
language teaching. By this we can gain the interest of 
the pupils and also the students learn English very 
interestingly.

  • 2. WHEN WISHES COME TRUE Main characters Subal Sushil Goddess (that morning, father starts scolding his son, sushil) Subal : Sushil do not do like that…. If I come there, I will beat you.
